Hi Lena! I dug through the Halek tag and didn't find it but I'm curious, does his stag have a name? Do hunters of the reach have a close bond with their animals or no, and does/did every exorcist of the reach have their own stag or is that Sol Privilege?

Hi bi, thanks for your question! Halek's elk is named Iakul, while Naolin's is named Yakun. (These are common kid's names for elks in the Reach, similar to naming your dogs "Fido" and "Lucky"). The Hunters of the Reach venerate their yakku steeds and tend to treat them with the respect of knights with their horses, so they do share a close bond, but they are definitely treated as working animals and not pets! Every ordained exorcist in the Reach is given a yakku steed if they want one (not all necessarily do or fight better on-foot), but some "regular" Hunter people in the North ride them too, particularly those who serve as hunters or scouts! However, they're not seen really at all outside of the Reach, even by Hunter communities outside of it! So it's a Reach thing rather than a sol thing. Hope that makes sense!

Okay so hear me out, what if Naolin is still alive but venin? I feel like he turned while saving Brennan but he had to draw from the earth to bring him back. The fact that Violet bonded Naolin’s dragon just feels like it’s going to be significant. Maybe he’s the sage and that’s why he’s trying to get Violet so that he can get Tairn, the second most powerful dragon. Maybe he’s going to try and break that bond so that he can use Tairn. Tairn was unwilling to bond for ages so why did he bond Violet out of the blue? I feel like Tairn knows that Violet can try and save Naolin and that’s another reason why he bonded her. Seeing her save Andarna proved to him that she was worthy and capable of saving Naolin. We know that venin still have the bond but we don’t know the extent of it. I just really feel like Naolin is going to play a very significant part in the next book since Brennan is alive.

So my theory is that Naolin did turn venin when trying to save Brennan, but I do not think he is alive.

I think that at some point while or after he resurrected Brennan, he turned on Tairn and stared draining him and Sgaeyl felt that and showed up and killed Naolin, and then they told everyone that the reason Tairn almost died was Naolin's death.

I think that that is why Sgaeyl hated Brennan so much.

I can't believe Tairn lost Naolin because he burned himself out using his powers to save someone else- a loss so great it almost killed him- and then proceeded to choose Violet as his next Rider. Violet, who he met as she put herself between Jack and two of his goons and the Featherwing they intended to kill for being week. And she has so far nearly burned herself out three different times and also to save lives, the third time bringing her so close to death she could feel her life slipping away from her.

So basically... It's like Tairn chose Naolin again, even though losing him almost killed him last time.

And not only that, but he specifically states that he intends to die when Violet does.

So it's like when this time "Naolin" goes, Tairn will go with "him."

what do you guys think tairn's attitude/reaction towards brennan is going to be when they meet in aretia, if his previous rider naolin really burnt out trying to save brennan (and was it really xaden's dad who shot him)? "a dragon without its rider is a tragedy" and tairn shared upon bonding w/ violet that he didn't expect he'd make it this far - he wasn't at presentation because he wasn't ready to bond and he probably thought he'd die grieving naolin, which is why i thought he'd just spent the few years since then in the vale but ppl are also theorizing that he's been helping sgaeyl and xaden smuggle weapons and might have already seen brennan since naolin's death

Hello! I was looking at some questions about marriage for the ROs and I noticed that Halek would wait at least a year before considering marrying MC, and I was wondering why? Also how long would Naolin be willing to wait before considering marriage?

Hi! I think a year of courtship/dating is pretty standard in Blest terms before getting married, and for Halek specifically, he's naturally cautious when it comes to long-term commitments; it'd be pretty funny if he spent so long putting off marriage, only to turn around and get married after like 3 months of dating LOL! He would want at least a year of just enjoying the relationship and exploring each other before thinking about marriage, especially because marriage would come with a lot of considerations that would have to be untangled: children, what happens to the Reach, the lifespan issues, etc. So he'd want at least a year before having to think about all that!

As for Naolin, he's also naturally cautious considering he doesn't have much romantic experience and also has his duties to his sol and the Reach to consider, but I could see him having a whirlwind courtship as well! I'd think at least 7-9 months would have to pass before he felt like he was ready to be married!
