You gasped as your back slammed against the door behind you, your heart racing as the blood pumped through your body. You felt feverish as if each of your veins had been ignited with a pure, searing fire. Your back pressed against the wood, the frame of the door digging into your spine. Adrenaline fuelled your brain as you lunged forward again, your hands reached out to grasp and clutch whatever you could to draw closer.
"God, we’ve got to stop this or I won't be able to control myself."
Luke's deep groan against your lips caused you to slightly withdraw from the kiss. Your lips curled in amusement as your hands threaded through his hair.
"Then start listing presidents or something," you grinned, crashing your lips to his once more. The grasp he had on your waist tightened even further, his hands spanning against the skin where your top had ridden up. "We only have five minutes…maybe less at this rate."
"You are trouble," he moaned in defeat, pressing you further against the wall as his warm hands gripped you as if in fear you may be taken from him.
Let's get one thing straight, you and Luke were complicated. He liked you, you liked him but if your brother ever caught wind of that? Oh, there would be hell to pay.
Nico Hischier had a stick up his ass— at least you thought so. He had warned you countlessly throughout your childhood that you were to stay away from his hockey friends and that they had received the warning to stay away from you. He said they were "never going to treat you like you deserve to be treated", you agreed, of course.
Hockey men were the semblance of all evil, they only cared about three things; hockey, their roster and blonde hair (you never understood their obsession with that one honestly?). You convinced yourself that they were the evil that walked the Earth, the only exception being your immediate family members.
...that is until you met Luke Hughes.
You'd moved to New Jersey over the course of lockdown and moved in with your brother. You wanted a change of pace from life back home, and you'd enrolled in various colleges in New York for photography and journalism.
When life had returned to normality, you’d been recruited to work as a social media girl on a part time basis for the Devils. It was a good gig, not too demanding but they paid you well enough. You attended away games and did little fun interviews for TikTok and their Instagram.
You'd met Luke in early 2023, briefly interviewing him with stupid questions like "if you got swept up in a tornado, what wouldn’t want to hit you as you spin?" or "if you could only skate on one leg, which leg would you choose?". You were aware of how cheesy and awful the questions were but the Devil's TikTok loved it– they devoured content like such.
It was only after a winning home game did you truly get to know Luke Hughes.
The two of you had sat next to each other in the bar the majority of the team had chosen to celebrate at. You remembered your brother sitting with Jack at the other table, celebrating their victory, your eyes warily glancing to Nico every few minutes.
You and Luke had talked awkwardly at first until the awkwardness was swept away and the storm of laughter and easy chatter arrived. You'd known from that moment on, that Luke Hughes was different. He wasn't like anyone else you'd ever met. He'd caused your stomach to flip and your gaze to soften.
You'd ended that night with Nico offering Luke and Jack to stay over at your shared apartment.
Nico and Jack had walked ahead to try catch a taxi, both, paying no attention to you and Luke who were completely and utterly enraptured by each other.
And the rest was history.
Luke's body pressed against yours as his hand moved to cup your jaw, his thumb smoothing over the skin there. There was no other feeling quite like this one, he figured. You desperately reaching up to hold him as he devoured you like a man starved. It was the little moments like these where the two of you broke away from reality and allowed yourselves to indulge in the greatness of this feeling.
Luke had known he liked you from the very moment he spotted you laughing with the other photographers on his very first day with the Devils. He saw the way you tipped your head and scrunched your nose as you let out a melodic sound, so sweet he wanted to pocket it and take it wherever he went. He wasn't even sure you'd seen him that day, but he'd seen you and it was hard to ever forget it.
The night at the bar was the moment that he knew he was a goner. He'd seen the lingering stares from men and women alike in the bar the moment you had walked in. He'd seen the way you parted the crowd like an angel in the darkness, eyes only set on him, your slight and shy smile suddenly overshadowing the night's victory. And you'd chosen to sit beside him...HIM!
Over the weeks following that night the two of you had texted back and forth, hanging out whenever you can and when you'd kissed him in the rain after an unofficial, but kind of official, date, he knew you felt the same way about him.
That had officially been the beginning your sneaking around. The two of you hid in the shadows of bars, clubs and each other's apartments when your respective brothers weren't around.
Which is what led you to this very moment. Nico had invited Jack and Luke over to watch a match of some kind. He hadn't even told you until the two brothers had knocked on your apartment door just after lunch. You'd had to hide your wide smile at the sight of the tall, bashful boy who stood scratching his head behind Jack.
They'd both been here since then, with you and Luke exchanging secret glances every few minutes. It was later in the evening when Nico had suggested that the four of you order dinner in and when Jack had offered to accompany him downstairs to the lobby to help collect it, it guaranteed you and Luke approximately five minutes of just you and him.
You head found itself flush against the wood of your bedroom door, just down the hall from the living room, as Luke pressed desperate kisses down your neck, his hand still cradling your cheek, moving your head to give him more access to the supple, exposed skin. Your breath caught in your throat as he gently sucked the flesh over your pulse point, your hands playing with the curls at the nape of his neck.
"Luke," you whimpered whilst he softly bit over the spot and ran his tongue over the bruising skin.
"I know, baby," he murmured, his breath fanning across your skin as he moved back up to look you face to face. Your blown pupils met his, the heat in your cheeks spreading around your body like wildfire. "Been missing you."
Your nose brushed against his with a whine. You hadn't seen each other in almost a week and a half, between your exams and Luke's games, you two just hadn't been able to find the time. You craved his touch, his comfort and his warmth.
"Been missing you too, Lu," you muttered, pulling him in for another kiss. Your neck craning as he enveloped you in a tight grip once more, his lips meeting yours frantically.
The two of you were so wrapped up in yourself that you hadn't heard the front door opening. You'd only heard one box of food hit the floor causing you and Luke to jump apart and snap your heads towards the noise.
Nico stood with a dropped jaw in front of Jack who smirked knowingly. Your wide eyes looked between Luke and Nico, your mouth agape in horror. Luke's hand was still around your waist as your brain ran in circles trying to decipher where to begin.
"What the fuck!” Nico eventually groaned breaking the silence.
"It's not what it looks like!" You rushed out, not making any attempt to move away from Luke.
You watched nervously as Nico furiously dug around his pocket until he yanked out twenty dollars and shoved it into Jack's awaiting open hand.
"Thank you," Jack grinned, winking at the two of you as he pocketed the money. You and Luke scrunched your eyebrows and shared a look of pure confusion.
"You couldn't wait until next month, no?" Nico huffed, picking up the fallen box of food before moving towards the kitchen with Jack, leaving both you and Luke standing in your stupor, before Luke let out a small laugh, burying his head in your neck as you stifled a groan.
"What the...YOU GUYS BET ON US?!"

It was no one’s fault, she just hadn’t been focused that day. She had been playing both of her brothers for the first time and it brought nerves upon her. It messed with her head as the four of them skated to each other at the beginning of warm-ups, hugging each other. Jack and Luke were more excited than Quinn and y/n, that was for sure. The two older siblings acted as if it was just another game, and it was.
She hadn’t been really paying attention, trying to keep her eye on the puck. She saw Quinn from the corner of her eye, Luke coming onto the ice behind him as the Devils switched lines. They were in the Canucks zone, Quinn behind Thatcher and y/n to the side. They started their pursuit as Quinn passed the puck to Pettersson, who then passed it to y/n. She handled it well as she weaved through the Devils players, hardly noticing her two brothers and her boyfriend.
She passed it to Brock as they reached center ice. She had spaced out for only a few seconds when her eyes regained focus. She looked at Brock and furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, didn’t he just have the puck?
She happened to glance down to see the puck by her skates and her brother coming at her. She swore silently to herself before making a move towards the goal. She had been so flustered she forgot how to skate for a moment, getting her feet tangled up. At the speed she was moving, her right skate got caught with her left and caused her to launch forward. It didn’t help that Bratt’s stick accidentally got tangled within the already-made mess of blades trying to intercept her movement.
Everyone watched as she slid into the boards. It was silent when it happened, everyone on the ice coming to a stop. She couldn’t really tell what hurt, but whatever it was, it hurt like hell. She cried out, it was the hardest hit she had gotten in her career and it sent shockwaves through her. Quinn was the first one to make it over to where she lay, the trainers still making their way out there.
He knelt next to her, with no regard for the trainers who were trying to do their job. His older brother instincts kicked in immediately, “Hey what hurts?”
He got no response out of her, just the sounds of her sobs and whines. Jack and Luke quickly followed, leaving their sticks long behind. Jack took the left side of Quinn while Luke took the right, both equally worried about her. However, they couldn’t do anything as the trainers showed up, their teammates dragging them away from the situation.
Quinn was being held by Brock and Petey, both of them trying to reassure the defensemen that she’d be alright, also worried about their teammate. However, the two younger brothers weren’t doing as well. Bratt and Marino were on the ice and were able to hold Luke back but Jack was freaking out. Nico wasn’t of much help either, staring at his girlfriend and the trainers with concern in his eyes.
Nobody knew about them so he tried not to react a whole deal. She had been worried about telling her brothers that she was dating him, let alone anybody. She knew that they would have words about it, but she didn’t need it now. Haula and Timo had to join their teammates on the ice, dragging Jack back from where he was yelling, “She’s my sister! I need to see if she’s alright!”
The trainers got y/n to calm down eventually, getting her to talk about what exactly hurt. She had barely managed to whimper out that there was a shooting pain in her back and a dull ache forming in her head. They were able to get her to stand on herself, even getting her to skate off the ice by herself as well.
There were claps from around Rogers Arena, the Hughes brothers continuing to watch in concern. Luke and Jack were taking their permanent spots on the bench for the rest of the period, there were two minutes left. Quinn’s needs differed from theirs, having to occupy himself with something else besides her injury.
When the period was over, Quinn was the first one down the tunnel, practically running as much as he was able to. After taking his skates off and his pads and jersey, he ran to see his sister who was practically begging for the trainers to let her see them.
Quinn knocked and walked in, y/n immediately lighting up, “Quinny!”
The joy that she had was impeccable after sliding into the boards. He gave her a small smile, “Hey kid. What’s up with her?”
“Nothing’s broken, nothing’s fractured, which is good. However her tailbone might be and probably is bruised and has likely got a concussion, she needs to go to the hospital.”
“What no, I'm fine!”
All of a sudden Jack and Luke came barging into the room, sweaty and out of breath, “What- what’s going on?”
“Nothing, I’m fine guys.”
“She’s got a concussion and a bruised tailbone. Needs to go to the hospital.” Quinn sat beside her and brushed her hair out of her face.
Tears made their way down her face, “But I haven’t done anything yet.”
The three boys looked at each other nervously, “Whatcha mean, kid?”
“It’s the first Hughesbowl and I’ve done shit. And my boyfriend is mad at me.”
Nico and her had gotten into a fight a few hours before the game. It was over something stupid but nonetheless, it left the Swiss man feeling angry at her. He had hung up on her and she had been left with her thoughts and sadness. She had tried to push the anger and sadness aside, tried to keep her composure, but once she saw him during warm-ups, it all fell apart.
Jack looked at his twin bewildered, “Your boyfriend?”
She nodded her head but groaned at the feeling, “Fuck.”
“Okay, okay. She needs to go to the hospital now and she needs to stop talking. We’re getting Ellen and Jim and you three go back to your teams.”
They tried to protest but the trainers were having none of it. They sighed and walked out of the room, Quinn saying goodbye to his younger brothers. When Jack and Luke returned, they were quickly met with questions, “How is she?”
Luke spoke in short sentences or more or less just five words, “Possible concussion. Bruised tailbone. Hospital.”
The team sat in silence as the brothers sat down next to each other, Jack throwing an arm around his brother. Jesper couldn’t help but feel bad about what had happened, he couldn’t help but feel like he contributed to her fall. Meanwhile, Nico sat in complete shock, not knowing what to do. How was he supposed to lead when his girlfriend was on his way to the hospital and no one knew about them, no one could find out about them?
His head hung low, eyes stinging with tears. He had just gotten into an argument with her not even 8 hours ago, he had just yelled at her for basically nothing. No one bothered to talk to him, noticing the way he was out of it. Lindy was talking but no one was listening, their minds replaying what happened to y/n over and over again.
The same thing was happening over in the Vancouver locker room with Rick, he had tried to help the team move past the injury, knowing it would only hurt them in the long run. However, they sat staring at the ground, Quinn’s mind running at a million miles an hour. He was taking the brunt of the sadness, both because it was his sister and because it was his teammate.
Before they left the locker room, Quinn stopped them, “Let’s do it for y/n/n.”
Everyone let out their responses, most of them being ‘Do it for y/n/n.’ They all skated out onto the ice, Quinn finding his brothers immediately.
If the brothers were taking it hard, you couldn’t tell. Well, except for Luke. Quinn and Jack had been great about masking their worry, focusing on the game ahead of them, while Luke was practically screaming that he was panicking. Y/n was his older sister, and one of his role models. She had taken care of him when he was home with the flu, she gave him girl advice when he asked for it, and she helped him with his math homework when he was practically losing his mind at the kitchen table.
“Any word?” Jack came to a stop next to his brother, leaning in closer so he could hear him.
“No. Lukey you okay?”
“What if she’s really hurt?” Quinn just tapped him on the back, not wanting to cause a huge scene, “She’s gonna be okay. Just keep your head in the game, she wouldn’t want us playing like shit right now. ”Quinn left the younger two to themselves, making his way back to his team.
Meanwhile, y/n was with her parents in her hospital room, the doctor going through her injuries more thoroughly. It was confirmed that she didn’t have a concussion, just a large bump on her head, nothing was majorly injured besides the bruised tailbone she had. She had begged Ellen and Jim to turn the game on, needing to see if Quinn could beat the shit out of the other two.
She was extremely disappointed when Jesper scored his goal and no Simple Minds played in the next thirty seconds following. She threw her phone down on her bed and it bounced off, hitting the floor as a result. Ellen sighed at her daughter, “I know it sucks, honey, but we just gotta get past it.”
“Everyone’s going to think I’m a failure now, they’re gonna rethink their decision of calling me up.”
“No, they’re not.”
The three heads snapped to the doorway at the new, but familiar, voice, “Neeks?”
He gave the family a soft smile, Ellen and Jim taking the hint to leave the two alone. He walked into the room fully, moving to stand next to her. He grabbed her hand, pressing a kiss to her hair, “Hi schatzi. How are you feeling? What’s hurt?”
“What are you doing here? How did you get here so fast?”
“I didn’t do media, I ran out as soon as Lindy was done talking.” He took a deep breath, “I needed to see you. I needed to make sure that you were okay, I needed to apologize.”
She shook her head but he stopped her, “No, I do. I shouldn’t have yelled at you, it was stupid and I know you just wanted us to see each other. I’m so sorry for what I said, how I said it.”
“It’s okay, Neeks.”
“It’s not, schatzi. I love you and I shouldn’t have freaked out over something stupid.”
Nico looked down at the ground before looking back up at her, “I was so worried when I saw you trip. I knew something was going on, you didn’t even notice the puck by you.”
Y/n slightly giggled, “Yeah wasn’t the finest moment of my career.”
Her comment got a laugh out of Nico which she saw as a good thing, “Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Bruised tailbone but other than that I’m okay. I’m on a lot of drugs right now.”
He laughed again, kissing her head, “You’re special y/n Hughes.”
“That I am.”
It was two minutes later when her brothers came barreling through the door, making Ellen’s attempts to stop them unsuccessful, “Nico?”
The two whipped their heads toward the door, y/n groaning in pain, “Fuck.”
Nico was quick to react, placing his hand on the back of her neck, his thumb coming to rest near her hairline. She smiled at him, slight pain lacing it. Jack and Luke looked at the two in disbelief, “What the hell is going on here?”
“Oh right. Nico and I are dating.”
Quinn stepped in front of the two Devils, walking over to pat Nico’s back, “Hey man.”
She raised an eyebrow at her twin and her younger brother, “Quinn’s fine with it.”
“But he- he’s our-” The two of them were flabbergasted as they looked at the scene.
The eldest Hughes rolled his eyes, “Can we not talk about this right now? Y/n is sitting in a hospital bed and this is the first time in months that the four of us have seen each other.”
The two nodded and moved over to sit down on the chairs by her bed, “Only if Nico can stay.”
Quinn nodded and raised an eyebrow when he saw Jack and Luke going to protest. They shut up immediately, slouching down into their seats like they had just been scolded by Ellen for doing something stupid. The four Hughes siblings caught up on the latest that had been happening, Nico all but staring lovingly at his girlfriend.
They ended up leaving a little while later after eating dinner, Nico being allowed to stay with her for the night. She tried to move over to give him space but he refused, saying he’d rather stay on the uncomfortable chair than injure her more.
“Love you, Neeks,” Y/n mumbled.
Nico smiled, “I love you too, schatzi.”

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was night one in Michigan, which meant the whole family was here, for the first time. Of course they’ve all seen her perform before but never together, Ellen was the most outspoken about her excitement in seeing her baby girl with the family, but she knew everyone else was just as excited too.
But as the opening piano played, the soft melody as the woman of the hour stepped out, singing the first verse before the lights begin flashing purple and red when the beat drops.
“Forgive and I forget!!
“Forgive and I forget!!
I know my age and I act like it!
Got what you can’t resist,
I’m a perfect all-American-”
She continued the song jumping and thrashing around the stage, getting close to fans and singing the lyrics to them while they screamed them back. And when she famously changes the lyric to “perfect all-American tits!” She made sure to face away from where she knew her family and friends were sitting, though they could still see on the big screen it didn’t matter. She just didn’t want to see her brothers and parents standing next to her boyfriend while she lifted up her shirt to an area full of people.
The song faded to the next and when she finished that song, out of breath, the girl starts dragging the microphone stand to the center of the stage, “So um- my families here tonight-” The girl was cut off by the crowd cheering loudly, “-yeah, so you guys are sooo lucky to have still gotten that lyric change.” She said, chuckling, though it wasn’t a joke.
The night continued on, Y/n played songs from her album and some from her first EP, Trevor and Cole were really having the time of their life, being twins with Jack basically meant that all their friends were each other’s friends, that very thing was the cause of the relationship Jack hated most, Nico and his sister.
He loved his sister, and he knew Nico was a good guy, but something about the fact that his captain was sleeping with his sister weirded him out. He hated even more that Nico would take Y/n’s side all the time, something the girl took advantage of, she also loved to tease Jack by saying she could make him do extra laps if he pissed her off. She had Nico wrapped around her finger. Y/n had just finished singing teenage dream, a slower song that she performed sitting down on a large crescent moon, leading herself into another slow song directly after.
“I spy with my little tired eye”
Tiny as a firefly
A pebble that we picked up last July
Down deep inside your pocket
We almost forgot it
Does it ever miss Wicklow sometimes?”
Y/n had written this song during her and NIco’s first summer together, when they went to Europe, they went to stay with his family before heading on a trip around Europe, just the two of them.
-
Hand in hand, the couple walked along the water in Wicklow, they had just come from dinner and were walking back to where they were staying. Taking their time, they looked at the mountains and hilly landscape.
Y/n rested her head on Nico’s biceps that was hidden under his jacket, her hands encompassed his own, his other hand was holding their leftovers in a to-go bag.
Something colourful caught the younger girl’s eye as they walked, it was an earthy orange in a sea of grey. Y/n stopped abruptly, something she did a lot when they walked together. The man has started to get used to her short and easily distracted attention span.
“Look at this rock, Neeks.” He nodded, a loving smile on his face. Nico was a man of few words, it used to be something that annoyed Y/n, she thought he just plain out didn’t like her and that was why he didn’t talk much. But she’s since learned that some people just didn’t have to be talking non-stop, could never be her, but she’s grown to love that about him. And he about her non-stop chatter.
“I like it, I’m gonna keep it.” She went to put the small pebble in her pocket when she  realised her jacket had no pocket. Looking towards Nico, he already had his hand out for the rock to hold onto, she placed it in his hand that was holding the leftovers and he placed the pebble safely in his jacket pocket.
-
“On the way home
I wrote a poem
You say, ‘what a mind’
This happens all the time”
-
Nico and Y/n were driving back to their hotel in London after a date, Nico’s left hand was resting on Y/n’s thigh. Her hands were holding her phone that was open to her notes app, while she read off a poem she had just written, “-like perfume that you wear, I linger all the time, watching hidden in plain sight. What d’ya think?”
Nico was speechless, how could someone just come up with something like that? So beautifully written, it had just come to her mind and she could perfectly write out the thought immediately? And it be that beautiful? What a mind.
“What a mind you have.” His words had made her huff out a small, “Stop it.” “No really, schatzi, it’s amazing. You always impress me with what your brain can come up with.”
What she didn’t tell him was her brain had come up with so much material from just his couple kind words.
-
When the song came to a close and Y/n stepped back onto the main stage, Jack decided to shove his captain a little to gain his attention, “Yes?” Nico said, glazing at Jack before bringing his eyes back to his girl.
“I know I act like I hate you and my sister.. But I’m really happy that you make her happy and feel safe.” Nico brought all his attention to the boy now as Y/n began ‘Talk too much’ “Thank you, Jack, it means a lot. She cares about your opinion more than she likes to admit, so that will mean a lot.” “‘Course.”
The boys were cut off by Y/n singing the chorus, “Ooh, I think I talk too much”
“At least she knows it.” Jack joked, and even though Nico loved hearing the girl talk more than anything, he laughed.
The song ended, and this was when Y/n would play a different song every night before the closing song, and most nights she would talk to the crowd and explain a bit or just talk about the song. Yet this night was different as all she said was, “This one is for all my girls who dreamed of having a foreign boyfriend!” And began singing.
“Driving on the right side road
He says I’m pretty wearing’ his clothes
And he’s got hands that make hell seem cold
Feet on the dashboard
He’s like a poem I wish I wrote
I wish I wrote!”
She wrote this one while Nico was in the shower the night he said, “What a mind” in London. Sitting at the small hotel desk, the original draft of the song was written on hotel stationary.
“And he says I’m so American
Oh god I’m gonna marry him
If he keeps this shit up!”
It only hit Nico now, that his girl was singing at the top of her lungs to an area full of people that she was going to marry him. Her family, her brothers, her friends, his family, and the rest of the world knew it. That she was going to marry him.
When the song came to an end, Ellen and Jim left saying they were heading backstage, everyone knew it was really because Jim hates the next song. Not because it was bad or anything, just because it was his little girl.
“Think I only want one number in my phone”
It was hard for Nico to keep a smirk off his face, especially when Trevor and Cole made such a big deal at any line, they loved teasing their best friend and her boyfriend and it was even better when she wasn’t there to get mad at them. But when it got to the point where the girl sang her unique to ever show outros, the two shut up.
“How quickly can you take your clothes off?” “POP QUIZ!!!”
“He’s so cute he calls me schatzi, even better ‘cause he understands me. My brothers may not like it but I am carefree.”
That night proved she was carefree, when she and Nico spent their night in her room of the lake house, in her bed, and on the floor, and in her bathroom, mostly the shower. Luke, who shares a wall with the couple, ended up sleeping in Quinn’s room with him that night.

Kiss Me Back To Sleep
nico hischier x hughes!reader
warnings: mentions boobs, groping?, mentions being nude, some kissing and biting
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Shushhh,” you quiet Nico with a finger over his lips. Your smile makes him want to burst out in joyous laughter. Your lips hover over his, going for a kiss, but his hands tickling your stomach has your head burying itself in the crook of his neck. Your giggles break loose as you squirm against his attack.
“Shushh,” he says back to you.
You scoff at him, hands on his chest and looking down at him. He’s laying on his back and you’re on top of him, legs a tangled mess. You stare into each other’s eyes, falling for each other very fast. He tucks a random strand of hair behind your ear, making you smile. His hand secures itself around the back of your neck, bringing you in for a heated kiss.
His face hasn’t been shaved in a couple days and it scratches heavenly on your face. The kiss is passionate, but not wet or rough. You can feel his hands start to creep down to the end of his devil’s tshirt you’re wearing. They slowly glide over your round cheeks, his finger nails lightly tracing lines on your back before his hand settles in between your shoulder blades. Your bare skin erupts in chills; there’s something so enticing about the way his rough hands feel on your body. You instantly sink into him.
“Neeks, I need to get up,” you whisper into the kiss. You start to get up, but he pulls you back down, kissing on your neck.
“I need you in bed with me,” he mutters in between the kisses and bites being delivered to your neck.
“We’ve been in bed together all day yesterday. Trust me, if I could be here with you all the time, I would, but I need to head back home,” you retort, hands carding through his hair.
“You don’t have to go home.”
“Yes, I do. I have no more clothes here.”
“So, use my washer. Use my clothes, or wear nothing, actually don’t wear anything at all. Just stay right here with me,” he sucks on your collarbones, knowing you will get distracted.
You let out a huff, rolling off of him, but staying right by his side. Your back is to him, so he can spoon you, and he does. He’s very in tune with your body and needs. It makes your heart melt.
“Fine, I’ll stay, but you have to let me sleep an extra hour,” you counter, kissing the tattoo on his bicep.
He doesn’t respond, not verbally. He settles his hand under your tshirt, cupping your boob. He kisses your neck a few times, sending you off into a comfortable sleep.
He may have to leave in an hour for practice, but he didn’t care because he’d be coming back home to you.
a/n: Some more Nico content!! This takes places a little after the first piece I put out, they’re dating but it’s secret and like 3 months in. Enjoy!

"If you weren't my sibling you'd be my best friend." "I can most definitely be both?" "Nah."
hughes sister saying that to jack and being like he can’t be my brother and best friend because that’s already luke
I was waiting for this one!! I hope you like it!!
••
Jack wasn't the only middle child in the Hughes family, but he most definitely suffered from Middle Child Syndrome the most. Quinn was busy hanging out with his friends, and his younger two siblings always seemed to leave him out, whether that be on purpose or not was up for debate. Sometimes he just felt forgotten.
The truth is that Luke was like your child growing up. When he was a baby, he was basically a living babydoll. You dressed him up, helped feed him, bathe him, the whole ordeal. When he was old enough to walk, the trouble that the two of you got into was endless. He made sure that when he started to get serious about hockey that you didn't feel left out, always prioritizing your once a week gossip session that took place in your room as you did your skincare routine on you and him while catching him up with what's going on in your life.
The whole Hughes family knew the routine, no interrupting the gossip session, but Jack couldn't help but eaves drop on what you were telling Luke.
"...so I'm standing there, actually watching this dude lie straight through his teeth, telling me that he didn't try to hook up with my friend. Did he think she wouldn't send me the screenshots? I mean seriously..." Jack could hear through the rather thin walls from the place where he was standing in the hallway.
He was about to head to his room, but just as he was passing your bedroom door it opened, like a scene straight out of a movie, hitting him smack dab in the middle of his face.
"Dude this is sad. Are you this desperate to try to be in our circle?" Luke patted his brother on the shoulder as you got closer to the scene.
You and Luke communicated in almost a telepathic way, passing a glance that said it would be ok if Jack joined just this once.
"Come on you idiot," You took his arm and pull him into your room.
He looked between you and Luke, noticing some sort of mask covering both of your faces.
"What the fuck is on your face," Jack laughed as he started to pay attention to his younger brother.
"Don't knock it until you try it," He replied, sipping on a glass of water.
"So what brings you here today," You piped up, curious as to why your older brother was all of a sudden interested in your gossip day with Luke.
"I heard you talking about a boy," Admittedly, he knew it was kind of weird to be listening in on his little sister's love life, but he liked to think that they could be close enough to fill each other in on important information.
He noticed that you were preparing something, and then saw that you were coming towards him with whatever was already on Luke's face.
"No way in hell is that going on my face," He tried to defend himself, but Luke holding his arms behind his back revealed that there was no point in trying.
"If you want to be in on the gossip, you can't skip skincare," You said, applying the mask evenly over Jack's face.
"So you heard what I was saying?" You asked, biting your tongue and concentrating on not making a mess on your floor.
"Mhm," Jack hummed.
"Any advice?" You were actually curious about what he had to say considering he could be the type of dude to do some stupid shit like you had experienced.
"Don't give him the time of day. Know your worth. I mean you got some pretty badass brothers, so you shouldn't expect anything less from a guy," He advised, his eyes closed trying to avoid getting anything in them.
"I think that's why I keep getting disappointed. I mean, not counting Jack, you and Quinn set the bar high for expectations from a guy," Your comment is directed at Luke, but you give Jack a cheeky glance.
"Hey! I'm sitting right here..." He feigned hurt, his hand covering his heart to add to the dramatics.
"No, but seriously. Mom and Dad didn't raise you to settle. Don't compromise your standards for a guy that isn't worth it." Jack's advice was filled with love, something that he wasn't very serious about most of the time, especially with his siblings. They all loved each other, but they rarely expressed it through words.
"Thanks, Jack. You know, if you weren't my sibling you'd be my best friend," You passed him one of your headbands so that he would stop fidgeting and pushing his hair back with his fingers.
"I can most definitely be both?" He furrowed his eyebrows, confused on how he can only qualify for the sibling portion of your comment.
"Nah," Luke piped in, scrolling through his social media on his phone.
"And why's that," Jack questioned, watching as his two younger siblings began to look at each other.
"Listen, Jack. Bud. I love you, but as you can see my best friend slot is kind of filled by Luke. We do love you, though!" You called after him as he began to leave your room.
"Where are you going?" Luke called to Jack right behind you.
"To look for someone to fill my best friend slot since you two obviously have no availability!"
As if on cue, Quinn walked through the living room door, almost hitting Jack again.
"Watch where you're go-" He began, but as soon as he saw what was on his brother's face he folded over laughing.
"What is on your face?" Quinn asked between breaths, trying to hold his composure.
Jack flipped him off, but turned to the two younger siblings that were hanging out of your bedroom doorway.
"I'm sure Quinn would love to be my best friend," Jack narrowed his eyes at you, causing you to giggle.
"Not with whatever is on your face," Quinn chuckled and ruffled Jack's hair.
"I hate you all," Jack rolled his eyes as he made his way to his room.
Although he said it, he'd never mean it. Even if Luke was your so-called best friend, at the end of the day you all knew that it was the four of you against the world. You all would do anything for each other with no questions asked. The four of you may be dispersed across the country at any given point, but eventually you all would find your way home to each other.
“I’ll be your best friend, Jacky Boy,” Quinn knocked on Jack’s door, a suppressed laugh threatening to spill.
“Fuck off,” Jack threw back.

the all-star captains gave me so many mixed feelings, like i love that we're gonna see jack and quinn interacting but couldn't they just give the captaincy to quinn and made jack an assistant captain like they did with everyone else? why do they have to be co-captains? quinn has been giving his all as the canucks captain and it looks like the nhl does not give a fuck, they just care about what's gonna give them money/media
(im not saying is not gonna be fun, or that they wouldn’t like to play together btw)
i love jack so much and i love every interaction between the hughes brothers but i find it so unfair how with every achievement they each make, the media always finds a way to make it about the other one, it's like they will never have their own accomplishments, they will always be compared to each other
quinn is really older sister coded, because he always has to share everything with his siblings

Loooove your writing! ❤️ but what about Stella and our favourite captain aka Nico? Need all the details!!!!
˖ ་ 💭 roro’s notes ( tysm lovie!! I absolutely loved writing this, I love Nico so much!! )
au masterlist — you can find asks under #💌stellahughes!
°. — ( feel free to send any requests of things you would like to see in this series, or if you just want to share some thoughts! I would absolutely love that! Please comment if you would like to be added to the tag list! )
So when Stella found out that Jack would be going to the devils, she of course had to do her research. And let’s just say she went down the rabbit hole for Nico hischier, like she literally started giggling when she saw his picture when she searched the team up.
Love at first sight for real! CAN YOU BLAME HER???
When Stella did finally get to meet Nico, she was a blushing and stuttering mess as he introduced himself to her with a smile. Quinn who quickly noticed why she was acting like that tried to help her out by saying ‘sorry she gets a little shy’
Nico was sweet about it and said it’s no problem and that it’s nice to meet her (aUgh he’s so perfect) Jack was giving Stella a confused look, he knows she’s shy but she’s never been this…awestruck? He immediately doesn’t like it.
Obviously stella and nico got closer over the years, Jack and stella are very close(obvi!) and she always tried to come visit jack, meaning that she would also see nico! Nico would also come and visit sometimes, they were all close!
Also over the years, Stella’s crush on Nico was very well known…by like literally everyone! She’s not very good at keeping it a secret. She and everyone knows that nothing would happen from it. Nico finds it very sweet and adorable.
They are very close! It’s honestly feels like they have known each other for years! They are each other’s biggest fan, Nico loves and keeps all her art work she’s given him safe, and he loves watching all her figure skating videos, always texting her what he thinks of it!
Now that Luke and Jack play on the same team, Stella finds it hard picking what brother’s jersey she’s going to wear, so most of the time she wears Nicos!
Stella and nicos interactions go viral a lot, especially on tiktok, fans go crazy for there interactions!
Nico always gets shy and laughes when ever Stella says I love you before she hangs up on there calls, he always says it back. He honestly thinks of her as a little sister.
Nico loves teaching her Swiss German
And Stella loves hugging Nico, he honestly gives the best hugs!! 😫
They both find it hilarious how jealous Jack gets, Jack likes to make it clear that he’s still Stella’s favorite and that’s she’s HIS little sister
Nico is one of the few people she actually likes calling her Estella
They are just very sweet in general, they have a great friendship!
He once took Stella to a cat cafe and she cried, she reminds him of a cat tbh.
Stella is always liking and commenting on edits of him!
Stella’s contact name for Nico is ‘nico❣️’
Nicos contact name for Stella is ‘Estella 🐈‍⬛’
NICO IS THE SWEETEST PERSON EVER AND STELLA JUST LOVES HIM SO MUCH! 😵‍💫

“Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!” Nico groaned from the extra weight on his bed and turned over.
“Asher.” Nico’s accent came through and the boy giggled, “Uncle Nico! It’s time to get up. It’s your first game today.”
“Yes, I know, meine liebe. But that means I need my sleep.”
“Uncle Nico what does ‘min- mina- lib-lirba’ mean.”
Nico sits up and scoots back so his back is flush agains the headboard and moves his nephew into his lap, “It’s meine liebe, schatz, and it means ‘my love’. And before you ask, schatz means hon.”
Asher nods excitedly, thoroughly entranced with his family’s native language. Nico continues to speak and tell Asher different German words when Anna knocks on his door, “Ash, what did I tell you last night about waking your uncle up?”
“Not to do it.”
“It’s alright, schatz. No biggie.”
“Mommy! Did you know that sc-schatz means ‘hon’?”
Anna shakes her head, “No, I did not know that, my love. Now how about we make some breakfast.”
Asher nodded his head once more and raced out of the bedroom and into the kitchen, “I’m sorry about him waking you up, Neeks. It’s been a long week.”
Nico gets up and throws one of his shirts on before going over to his sister, “I promise you, it’s okay. I can only imagine how draining it is, You’re doing great.” He kisses her on the forehead and she smiles walking away to make some food.
✧༺✎༻∞
Asher could not contain his excitement. Anna was lucky that she even got him to go down for a nap earlier right before the game. He made Anna get to the Prudential Center before the doors were even open, having Nico go and get them.
Asher excitedly clambered down from his mom’s grasp and went to grip his uncle’s outstretched hand. Anna followed behind the two, looking around at the arena along checking her phone whenever they stopped so Asher could ask questions. When the clubhouse came into view, Asher ran to the door and tried to open it, “Woah woah woah, there kumpel.”
“I wanna see everybody!” Asher bounced on his feet, extremely tempted to start running around the hallways.
“One moment, Ash.” Nico knocked on the door making sure it was decent before tkaing his nephew into the crowded room.
“Hi everyone!”
“Hi Asher.” Everyone let out their greetings and Asher went around saying hi to everyone.
“Hi Uncle Jesp. Hi Uncle Gravy. Hi Uncle Dougie. Hi Uncle Cloudy. Hi Uncle Jonas. Hi Uncle Tater Tot. Hi Uncle Dawson. Hi Uncle Bernier. Hi Jack! Mommy this is my new friend Jack!”
Anna looked up from her phone and in between her son and Jack, “I see honey. Go ahead and ask him, if you want.”
He nodded, “Jack, can you guess my five favorite things?” Asher loved to have people guess his favorite things. Nobody knew why he did, yet it was always funny how mad he got if someone got it wrong.
“I’m gonna say dinosaurs, airplanes, rainbows, and chicken nuggets.” Asher nodded his head as Jack spoke looking happy that he was gonna get them all right, “And the New York Rangers.”
Asher gasped in offense, “No! Why would I like the Rangers, Jack?” Jack shrugged, “I’m just joking, little man. You’re favorite team is obviously the Devils.”
He nodded in approval and walked back over to his mom, “Bye everyone. Good luck!”
Everyone waved at the little boy as he and Anna walked out of the locker room. She took him to their seats, right near the glass per his request. They waited until warmups, Asher making Anna take pictures of him and the rink with his jersey on as people piled into The Rock. The boy made friends with the poeple who sat around him, a nice young couple, a family with two kids, and a group teenage boys, who he was the biggest fan of.
The boys played rock, paper, scissors with him along with allowing him to play on their phones. When warmups started. Asher was standing and banging on the glass trying to get one of his uncles’ attention. When Ryan came over he started chanting, “Uncle Gravy! Uncle Gravy! Uncle Gravy!” IN reutnr, Ryan threw him a puck and he squealed.
The people beside them laughed at the boy’s antics, yet that wasn’t the last that they would hear from the boy. Whenever the Devils would score, he would chant their scorers name and then those who got the assist. Whenever the Blackhawks scored, he would boo saying something about how it wasn’t Bernier’s fault. And when the Devils got into the penalty box Asher would look towards his mom and “whisper”, “Mommy, Uncle …, did something bad.” When the Blackhawks got a penalty he screamed “Sentence to life” which Anna has no clue where he learned it from but had a sneaking suspicion.
When Jack got the OT winner Asher was beyond happy, screaming, “Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack!”
Anna took him to see the boys after the game and even allowed them to take the two out to dinner to celebrate the first game, and win, of the season.

Its Always Been You
Part 4 / Word Count 5816
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Summary: And so, the trip to Michigan begins with a little surprise guest.
In the dim glow of his bedroom, Jack's world felt like it was crumbling around him. The shadows danced across the walls, mirroring the chaos within his mind.  Jack's hands trembled as he held the phone to his ear, his breathing uneven and his heart racing.
"Luke, I don't know what to do with myself," Jack's voice trembled, a mix of anguish and vulnerability. His eyes were glassy with unshed tears, and his free hand clenched into a tight fist.
"I've acted like a complete fool all week. Y/n hates me. I'm feeling… I'm feeling things I never felt before for y/n, and I think I've finally lost my mind."
Luke's harsh tone cut through the silence, his confusion evident. "Jack, what the hell are you talking about?" There was a rustling sound on the other end of the line, as if Luke was sitting up in bed, suddenly alert.
Jack's pacing resumed, his frustration palpable. He ran his fingers through his disheveled hair, his footsteps heavy against the carpeted floor.
The room felt suffocating, the walls closing in on him as he struggled to contain his emotions.
"I told y/n I knew how she felt about me, and then I broke her heart. She left me all alone for three days. Jesus, I just saw her locking lips with some loser in the hallway. It's taking everything in me not to go out there and drag him outside."
"Jack…" Luke barely got out before he was interrupted again.
Before Luke could respond, Jack's voice rose again, defiant and emotional. "I'm not done." He halted his pacing, standing in front of his dresser where a picture of y/n and him sat.
It was from the night of his draft party, a snapshot of happier times. Jack's fingers traced the edges of the frame, his eyes fixated on y/n's smiling face. The photograph seemed to mock him, a cruel reminder of what he had thrown away.
He thought back to that night, his emotions, how he begged her to leave her life behind and move to New Jersey. The memory was vivid, the excitement and hope he felt then now replaced by a crushing sense of regret.
The scent of her perfume, the warmth of her hand in his, the sparkle in her eyes—it all came flooding back, intensifying the ache in his chest.
Rustling came through the speaker of Jack's phone. "I ruined us, Luke. I've ruined the best thing I've ever had." Jack's voice cracked, a single tear escaping and rolling down his cheek.
"Dude, it's almost 12am, and you're babbling about something everyone and their mom knew already. How long did you think you could fight your feelings?" Luke's tone softened, a mix of exasperation and concern.
"I don't know, Luke." Jack stayed still for a moment, his shoulders slumped in defeat. The door of their apartment closed, and he hung up on Luke when he heard footsteps approaching.
Jack perked up, holding his breath as he listened to them get closer. His heart raced, a glimmer of hope sparking in his chest.
Another door closed, leading Jack to swing open his door. Y/n had already closed her door, the click of her lock reverberating through the silent apartment.
Jack's hand hovered over her doorknob, his fingers trembling. He wanted to knock, to apologize, to pour his heart out, but fear and uncertainty held him back.
The sound of her alarm woke her from her restless sleep, the shrill beeping cutting through the stillness of the early morning. Her eyes opened slowly, adjusting to the darkness around her.
The room was bathed in a deep, melancholic blue, the shadows clinging to the corners and casting an air of despair. The curtains, a soft, sheer fabric, billowed gently in the breeze from the slightly open window, allowing a sliver of pale moonlight to penetrate the gloom.
"Here we go again," she mumbled groggily, her voice heavy with exhaustion and resignation. The words felt thick on her tongue.
She sat up in her bed, allowing the blanket to fall in a heap on her waist. The sheets, once a comforting embrace, now felt suffocating, tangled around her legs like the thoughts that consumed her mind.
y/n looked around the room with despair, her gaze lingering on the familiar objects that held countless memories—the framed photographs on the dresser, the stack of well-worn books on the nightstand, the discarded clothing strewn across the floor.
Y/n sighed again, the sound echoing in the emptiness of the room. She pushed the blanket off of herself fully, the cool air of the apartment sending a shiver down her spine.
Her steps were light as she dressed herself, opting for comfort over style for the plane ride back to Michigan. She pulled on a soft, oversized sweater, the fabric enveloping her like a comforting hug, and a pair of well-worn leggings that had seen better days.
As she moved about the room, gathering her belongings, the floorboards creaked beneath her feet, the sound amplified by the silence that hung heavy in the air. The scent of stale coffee and the lingering aroma of chocolate chip cookies wafted through the apartment.
Jack's door opened across from her room, his yawning loud against the stark silence of the world outside their little apartment. The sound made her flinch, her body tensing as she braced herself for the inevitable encounter.
She could hear his footsteps, the shuffling of his feet against the hardwood floor, and the rustling of his clothing as he moved about his room.
Y/n rolled her eyes, not ready to interact with Jack just yet. The thought of facing him, of seeing the guilt and regret in his eyes, made her stomach churn. She focused on the task at hand, pulling her suitcase up to the door, the wheels squeaking against the floor.
Her eyes landed on the corkboard that hung on the wall beside the door, the pictures of their innocent smiles and young faces causing her heart to break even more.
In one picture, they were grinning broadly, their arms wrapped around each other's waists as they posed in front of a sunset on the beach. In another, they were dressed in formal attire, attending a friend's wedding, their eyes sparkling with happiness and love.
Y/n's fingers traced the edges of the photographs, the glossy paper cool beneath her touch. A lump formed in her throat as she studied each image. She could feel the sting of tears behind her eyes, the emotions she had been trying so hard to suppress threatening to spill over.
She pulled the door open, rushing past the open bathroom where Jack stood in the mirror, his toothbrush dangling from his mouth and a look of surprise etched on his face.
Y/n moved with the speed of a cheetah, her feet pounding against the floor as she made a beeline for the safety of the kitchen.
Just as she thought she had escaped the awkwardness, the front door jingled, keys rattling against the metal knob like a mischievous poltergeist trying to gain entry.
Y/N stood frozen in place, her body rigid with shock as the door to the apartment swung open. The sudden intrusion had caught her completely off guard, and she felt as if she had been turned to stone, unable to move or speak.
As she watched, a tuft of blonde hair bounced into view, the golden locks reminding her of the fairy tale character Goldilocks. But this was no innocent child stumbling upon a bear's cottage; this was a full-grown woman barging into her home uninvited.
"Daphne? What the hell are you doing here?" Y/N managed to choke out, her voice rising in pitch with each word until it reached a near-shriek. The disbelief and anger dripped from her tongue like bitter honey, leaving a foul taste in her mouth.
Jack's girlfriend fully entered the apartment, dragging a garishly pink suitcase behind her. It was as if she had packed her entire life into that one piece of luggage, ready to move in and stake her claim.
The suitcase was so bright it hurt Y/N's eyes, a beacon of chaos signaling the impending doom that was about to unfold.
From the corner of her eye, Y/N saw Jack emerge from the bathroom, toothbrush still dangling from his mouth. White foam dripped down his chin, making him look like a rabid dog caught in the act.
His eyes widened as he took in the scene before him, darting back and forth between the two women as if trying to comprehend the gravity of the situation he had found himself in.
Daphne's gaze flicked between Jack and Y/N, her initial smile slowly fading as realization dawned on her face. "We planned this months ago, silly," she said, her voice dripping with false sweetness.
"Non-refundable ticket. We talked about this, Jack. It's only been three months; you can't get rid of me that easily."
She let out a laugh that sounded more like a witch's cackle, her eyes gleaming with a hint of mischief and something darker, more possessive. It was clear that she had no intention of leaving, no matter how unwelcome her presence might be.
Y/N felt her heart sink into her stomach, a wave of nausea washing over her as the reality of the situation hit her like a ton of bricks. Daphne was here, in their home, and it seemed that Jack had been keeping even more secrets than she had realized.
The air in the apartment suddenly felt thick and suffocating, the tension so palpable you could cut it with a knife. Y/N's mind raced with a million questions, a million accusations, but she couldn't seem to form the words.
All she could do was stand there, frozen in place, as the world she had built with Jack came crashing down around her like a house of cards.
Jack let out a heavy sigh, his hand rubbing the front of his scalp as if trying to erase the memory of ever agreeing to this disastrous plan. His face scrunched up like he had just bitten into a particularly sour lemon, the bitterness of the situation leaving a foul taste in his mouth.
He glanced sheepishly at Y/N, his eyes darting between the two women like a puppy who had been caught chewing on his owner's favorite pair of shoes.
"Can you give us a sec? Please?" he pleaded, his voice barely above a whisper, as if he were afraid that speaking any louder would cause the fragile peace to shatter.
Y/N scoffed, her arms crossing over her chest as she fixed Jack with a withering stare. "No, we have to leave soon, and if I don't have my coffee, I just might jump off the plane dealing with you both," she retorted, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Her eyebrows rose so high they nearly disappeared into her hairline, the thought of being trapped on a plane with these two making her seriously consider grabbing a parachute and taking her chances with gravity.
Jack's face reddened, his frustration bubbling to the surface. "We need privacy though!" he said, his voice tinged with annoyance.
He threw his hands up in the air, as if he were trying to physically push away the awkwardness that had settled over the room like a thick fog. "Could you give us some time?"
Y/N let out a humorless laugh, the sound harsh and grating in the tense silence of the apartment. "Oh, you need privacy? That's rich, coming from the guy who couldn't even bother to tell his best friend that his girlfriend was coming to visit."
She shook her head, her eyes narrowing as she fixed Jack with a look that could have melted steel. "You know what? Fine. You two lovebirds enjoy your little reunion. I'll be in my room, packing my bags and booking a one-way ticket to anywhere but here."
With that, she spun on her heel and stalked off towards her bedroom, her footsteps echoing like gunshots in the stillness of the apartment. She could feel Daphne's eyes boring into her back, could sense the smug satisfaction radiating off the other woman in waves.
But Y/N refused to let it get to her, refused to let the hurt and betrayal show on her face. She had always prided herself on being strong, on being able to handle whatever life threw her way. And she sure as hell wasn't going to let Jack or his girlfriend see her crumble.
As she reached her bedroom door, Y/N paused, her hand resting on the knob. For a moment, she was tempted to turn back, to march right up to Jack and demand an explanation.
But she knew that it would be pointless, knew that whatever he had to say would only make the pain worse.
So instead, she took a deep breath and stepped inside, slamming the door behind her with a resounding thud. And as she sank down onto her bed, her head in her hands and her heart in pieces, Y/N couldn't help but wonder how everything had gone so wrong, so fast.
Y/N walked back out into the living room, Daphne turned to her with an expression of exaggerated surprise. Her eyes were wide, and a cute smile was plastered on her face, the kind of smile that made you want to pinch her cheeks but also question the sincerity behind it.
"This is your best friend, right? She's a lot shorter than I remember," Daphne said, her voice dripping with false sweetness. It was clear that she was trying to get under Y/N's skin, to establish her dominance in the situation.
Y/N couldn't help but scoff, her eyes rolling so far back in her head that she nearly caught a glimpse of her own brain. "And you're the EX-girlfriend, right?" she retorted, putting extra emphasis on the "ex" part. Two could play at this game, and Y/N wasn't about to let Daphne win.
Jack let out a groan, his head falling back in frustration. "God, just my luck," he grumbled, his eyes rolling so hard they nearly got stuck in the back of his head.
He knew that he was in for a long and uncomfortable conversation with Daphne, and the thought of it made him want to crawl into a hole and never come out.
Y/N took a deep breath grabbing her coffee, the warm liquid providing a momentary comfort before made her way back out to the kitchen. Y/N grasped the cold metal handle, the chill sending a shiver down her spine.
"Let's go before I change my mind," she said, her voice flat and emotionless. She didn't want to give Jack or Daphne the satisfaction of seeing how much this situation was affecting her, didn't want to let them see the cracks in her carefully constructed façade.
The journey to the airport had been a tense affair, with Y/N pointedly ignoring Jack's attempts at conversation and Daphne chattering away obliviously in the background.
Y/N could feel Jack's eyes on her, his gaze heavy with unspoken apologies and explanations, but she refused to meet his eye, focusing instead on the passing scenery outside the car window.
they made their way through the bustling terminal, Jack tried once more to pull Y/N aside, his hand gently grasping her elbow. "Y/N, please, can we just talk about this?" he pleaded, his voice low and urgent.
Y/N yanked her arm away, her eyes flashing with barely contained anger. "There's nothing to talk about, Jack," she hissed, her voice sharp as a knife. "You made your choice, and now we all have to live with the consequences."
Jack's face fell, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "It's not like that, Y/N. If you would just let me explain..."
But Y/N cut him off with a bitter laugh, her head shaking in disbelief. "Explain what, Jack? How you don’t like me? How you play this stupid hot and cold game with me? No, I think I've heard enough explanations to last a lifetime."
She turned to walk away, but Jack's hand shot out once more, his fingers wrapping around her wrist. "Please, Y/N," he whispered, his eyes shining with unshed tears. "I never meant to hurt you. You have to believe that."
For a moment, Y/N wavered, her resolve crumbling in the face of Jack's obvious distress. But then she caught sight of Daphne waiting impatiently by the gate, her foot tapping, and her arms crossed, and the anger came rushing back in full force.
"I don't have to believe anything, Jack," she said, her voice cold and distant. "You made your bed, and now you have to lie in it. I just want to forget about all of this and move on with my life. So please, just leave me alone."
With that, she wrenched her arm from his grasp and strode towards the gate, her head held high and her heart shattered into a million pieces.
The seating arrangement on the plane felt like a cruel joke, a twisted game of fate that had placed Y/N in the middle of the very chaos she had been trying to escape.
She found herself sandwiched between Jack and Daphne, her body pressed against the cool glass of the window as if she could somehow merge with the clouds and drift away from the awkwardness that permeated the air.
Jack sat rigidly in the middle seat, his body a tense barrier between Y/N and Daphne. Y/N could feel the heat of his skin, could smell the familiar scent of his cologne, and it made her heart ache with a longing she couldn't quite suppress.
On Jack's other side, Daphne slept peacefully, her head lolling against his shoulder and her soft snores filling the space between them. She seemed blissfully unaware of the silent war raging within Y/N's mind, the turmoil that threatened to consume her from the inside out.
Y/N's foot tapped incessantly against the floor, a nervous habit that betrayed the inner chaos she was desperately trying to conceal. Each tap was like a metronome, counting down the seconds until she could escape the confines of the plane and the suffocating proximity to Jack.
She could feel his eyes on her once more, could sense the weight of his gaze boring into the side of her head. But she refused to look at him. Instead, she focused on the clouds outside the window, on the endless expanse of blue sky that stretched out before her.
Y/N was lost in thought, her mind a whirlwind of emotions and memories, when Jack's hand suddenly shot out, startling her back to reality. Before she could react, he had shoved a headphone into her ear, ignoring the sputtered questions and the look of indignation that flashed across her face.
His fingers brushed against her skin, sending a jolt of electricity through her body. It was a reminder of the connection they once shared, the easy intimacy that had defined their friendship for so many years. Y/N's breath caught in her throat, her heart racing as she tried to process the unexpected gesture.
As the familiar opening credits of her favorite episode of Game of Thrones filled her ear, Y/N's eyes widened in surprise. She glanced at Jack, searching his face for an explanation, but he steadfastly refused to meet her gaze.
His eyes remained fixed on the screen in front of him, as if the answers to all of life's questions could be found in the flickering images.
Y/N couldn't help but steal glances at Jack, her eyes tracing the contours of his face, the curve of his jaw, the way his lashes cast shadows on his cheeks.
Each glance was a silent question, a plea for him to acknowledge the unspoken words that hung between them. But Jack remained stoic, his attention unwavering, as if he had erected an impenetrable wall around himself.
Even as she tried to immerse herself in the show, Y/N couldn't shake the awareness of Jack's presence beside her. The warmth of his body seemed to seep into her skin, igniting a longing that she had tried so hard to suppress.
She could feel the rise and fall of his chest, could hear the soft whisper of his breath, and it made her heart ache with a bittersweet mixture of love and loss.
Beside her, Jack remained a silent presence, his body so close and yet so far away. Y/N couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking, what he was feeling.
Y/N stepped out of the airport, the crisp Michigan air filling her lungs and invigorating her senses. She took a deep breath, savoring the familiar scent of pine and freshly cut grass that always seemed to linger in the air.
The sun peeked through the scattered clouds, casting a warm glow on her surroundings and making the world seem a little brighter, a little more hopeful.
She scanned the crowd of people waiting outside the terminal, her eyes searching for a familiar face. And then, like a beacon in the chaos, she spotted him.
There, leaning against a sleek black car, was Luke. A grin spread across his face as he caught sight of her, his eyes crinkling at the corners in the way that had always made her heart skip a beat. "Y/N!" he called out, pushing himself off the car and striding towards her with open arms.
Without hesitation, Y/N dropped her bags and ran to meet him halfway. She threw her arms around his neck, feeling the solid warmth of his body as he wrapped his arms around her waist, lifting her off the ground in a spirited hug. For a moment, the world seemed to fall away, and all that mattered was the comfort and familiarity of Luke's embrace.
"I missed you so much," Y/N mumbled into his shoulder, her voice muffled by the fabric of his shirt. She breathed in the scent of him, a mixture of cologne and something uniquely Luke, and felt a wave of nostalgia wash over her.
Luke chuckled, the sound rumbling through his chest and vibrating against her own. "I missed you too, shorty. It's good to have you back."
He set her back down on the ground, but kept his arms around her, as if he was afraid she might disappear if he let go. Y/N couldn't help but smile up at him, feeling a sense of warmth and belonging that she hadn't felt in a long time.
Behind them, the sound of footsteps on the pavement broke the spell. Y/N turned to see Jack and Daphne approaching, their faces a mixture of exhaustion and something else, something harder to define. Jack's eyes met hers for a brief moment, a flash of emotion passing between them before he looked away, his jaw clenching.
Luke's arms tightened around Y/N, a silent show of support and protection. "Hey Jack, Daphne," he said, his voice carefully neutral. "Glad you could make it."
Daphne smiled, the expression not quite reaching her eyes. "Thanks for picking us up, Luke. It's been a long flight."
Y/N could feel the tension crackling in the air, the unspoken words and unresolved issues hanging between them like a thick fog. But for now, she pushed them aside, focusing instead on the feeling of Luke's arms around her and the promise of a few days away from the chaos of her life in New Jersey.
Jack moved forward, his arms open wide and a grin plastered on his face, Y/N felt a flicker of hesitation. There was something about his expression that seemed forced, as if he was trying too hard to appear casual and unaffected by the tension that hung thick in the air.
But before Jack could reach them, Luke's hand shot out, smacking the side of his head with a resounding thwack. The sound echoed through the parking lot, drawing the attention of a few curious onlookers. Jack stumbled back, a bewildered look on his face as he rubbed the spot where Luke's hand had made contact.
"Ow, what was that for?" Jack asked, his voice a mix of surprise and mock indignation. His brows furrowed as he looked at Luke, trying to decipher the reason behind the sudden attack. Y/N could see the gears turning in his head, the confusion and hurt flickering behind his eyes.
Luke lowered his voice, his tone stern yet laced with underlying concern. He leaned in closer to Jack, his eyes locked on his brother's, as if he was trying to convey a message that went beyond words.
"For being an idiot and for bringing her here. Did you forget about what you said on the phone?"
Y/N felt her heart skip a beat, her mind racing with the implications of Luke's words. What had Jack said on the phone? What secrets had he been keeping from her, even as he tried to bridge the gap between them?
Jack's face flushed with guilt, the color rising in his cheeks like a crimson tide. His eyes darted to Y/N, then back to Luke, a silent plea for understanding.
For a moment, no one spoke. Y/N could feel Daphne's eyes on her, could sense the other woman's curiosity and suspicion. But she refused to meet her gaze.
Finally, Luke broke the silence, his voice cutting through the tension like a knife. "Come on," Luke said, releasing Y/N and grabbing her bags. "Mom's waiting at home with lunch. She's been cooking up a storm all morning."
Y/N grinned, the thought of Luke's mother's cooking making her mouth water. "Lead the way," she said, falling into step beside him as they made their way to the car.
As they walked, Y/N could feel Jack's eyes on her back, could sense the weight of his gaze boring into her. But she refused to look back, refused to acknowledge the part of her that still longed for his touch, his presence, his love.
Instead, she focused on the warmth of Luke's hand in hers, on the promise of a few days of respite and healing. And as they drove away from the airport, the skyline of Detroit rising up in the distance, Y/N couldn't help but feel a flicker of hope igniting in her chest.
Maybe, just maybe, this trip would be the start of something new, a chance to leave behind the pain and heartache of the past and find a way forward, one step at a time. And with Luke by her side, and the love of her family to guide her, Y/N knew that anything was possible.
Lukes’s car pulled up to the familiar two-story house, Y/N felt a wave of nostalgia wash over her. The red brick facade, the white wooden porch, the sprawling oak tree in the front yard - every detail was exactly as she remembered.
She stepped out of the car, the warm breeze caressing her face and tousling her hair. The scent of freshly cut grass filled the air, a sweet perfume that brought back memories of lazy afternoons spent lounging in the sun and late-night conversations under the stars.
Y/N took a deep breath, letting the peace and tranquility of the moment settle over her like a comforting blanket. For the first time in days, she felt the knots of tension in her shoulders begin to loosen, the weight of her worries and fears slowly melting away.
Beside her, Jack and Daphne were unloading their bags from the trunk, their voices a low murmur against the backdrop of chirping birds and rustling leaves. Y/N hesitated for a moment, her eyes lingering on Jack's face, taking in the lines of stress and fatigue that creased his brow.
In that moment, she made a decision. She was tired of being angry, tired of holding onto the hurt and betrayal that had consumed her for so long. Life was too short to waste on grudges and resentment, too precious to let slip away in a haze of bitterness and regret.
With a determined set to her jaw, Y/N strode over to Jack, her steps purposeful and sure. He looked up as she approached, his eyes widening in surprise and a flicker of hope.
"Hey," she said, her voice soft but steady. "I just wanted to say... I'm sorry for the way I've been acting. I know things have been tough lately, but I don't want to keep dwelling on the past. You're my best friend, Jack, and that's never going to change."
Jack's face softened, his eyes shining with a mix of relief and gratitude. "Y/N, I..." he started, his voice thick with emotion. "I'm sorry too. For everything. I never meant to hurt you, and I know I have a lot to make up for. But I'm willing to do whatever it takes to earn your trust again."
Y/N felt a lump form in her throat, the sincerity in Jack's words tugging at her heartstrings. She reached out and took his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze.
"I know," she said, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "let's just focus on enjoying this trip and being there for each other, okay?"
Jack nodded, his own smile breaking through the clouds of tension that had hung over them for so long. "Okay," he said, his voice filled with a tentative hope. "That sounds perfect."
Together, they made their way up the porch steps, their hands still intertwined. Y/N could feel the warmth of Jack's skin against her own.
"Welcome back, sweetheart," Ellen said, her voice warm and rich like honey. "We've missed you so much."
Y/N felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes. “I've missed you too," she said, her voice muffled against the older woman's shoulder. "It's so good to be home."
Luke led Daphne and Y/N up the stairs, their footsteps echoing on the hardwood, Jack seized the opportunity to pull his mother aside. His heart raced, palms sweaty as he glanced nervously between her and the staircase, his body practically vibrating with anxiety.
Ellen's brows furrowed, her maternal instincts kicking into high gear as she sensed her son's distress. She placed a gentle hand on his arm, her touch a silent invitation to share his troubles.
"Jack, honey, what's wrong?" she asked, her voice soft and filled with concern. "You look like you've seen a ghost."
Jack swallowed hard, his Adam's apple bobbing in his throat. He ran a shaky hand through his hair, his eyes darting around the room as if searching for an escape. But there was none to be found, and he knew that he owed his mother the truth.
With a heavy sigh, he guided her to the couch, his movements stiff and awkward. They sat down, the worn cushions sinking beneath their weight, and for a moment, neither of them spoke.
Finally, Jack broke the silence, his voice barely above a whisper. "Mom, I... I messed up. Y/N and I, we had a fight. A big one. And I don't know how to fix it."
Ellen's eyes widened, a flicker of disappointment crossing her face. But she remained silent, allowing her son to continue.
"I didn't tell her about Daphne, and she found out in the worst way possible. And now... now she can barely look at me. I don't know what to do, Mom. I can't lose her."
Jack's voice cracked, the tears he had been holding back for so long finally spilling over. He buried his face in his hands, his shoulders shaking with the force of his sobs.
Ellen's heart ached for her son, for the pain and regret that radiated off him in waves. She reached out and pulled him into a hug, her arms wrapping around him like a protective cocoon.
"Oh, Jack," she murmured, her voice filled with a mix of sympathy and gentle chastisement. "I know it's hard, but you have to be honest with the people you love. Secrets have a way of coming out, and they always hurt more in the end."
Jack nodded, his face still buried in his mother's shoulder. "I know," he said, his voice muffled by the fabric of her shirt.
"I just... I didn't want to hurt her. But I ended up doing exactly that." Ellen pulled back, her hands coming up to cup Jack's face. She looked him in the eye, her gaze filled with a wisdom born of years of love and experience.
"Do you remember the time that boy was bothering Y/N in school?" she asked, her voice soft and reminiscent. "You came home with a black eye and a split lip, but you were so proud of yourself for defending her."
Jack's lips twitched, a hint of a smile breaking through the tears. "Yeah, I remember. She was so upset, but I just wanted to make her feel safe."
Ellen nodded, her own smile mirroring her son's. "You brought her back here, to this very house. And you let her lay her head on your lap, and you caressed her hair until she fell asleep. Do you remember what I told you then?"
Jack's brow furrowed, his mind stretching back to that distant memory. "You said... you said that love is the most pure thing you can feel."
Ellen nodded, a knowing smile playing at the corners of her lips. "And I see it in you, Jack. When you look at her. You love her, don't you?"
Jack took a deep breath, his shoulders straightening his heart skipping a beat at his mother's words. He had always known, deep down, that his feelings for Y/N went beyond friendship. But to hear it spoken aloud, to have his deepest secret laid bare... it was both terrifying and exhilarating.
"I... I don't know what to say, Mom," he stammered, his cheeks flushing with a mix of embarrassment and longing. "Y/N and I, we're just friends. And besides, Daphne...” He trailed off, his eyes flickering towards the staircase where his ex-girlfriend had disappeared just moments before.
Ellen sighed "Jack, honey, the longer you wait, the harder it's going to be. Sooner or later, you're going to decide whether you want to be with her in that way or let her go and find love in someone else.”
Jack stood up, his heart lighter than it had been in days. He hugged his mother one last time, breathing in the comforting scent of her perfume. "You're right, Mom. I need to be honest with myself, and with Y/N. But... but I can't do it now. Not with Daphne here. It wouldn't be fair to anyone."
"Ellen patted his cheek, her touch a silent benediction. "I understand, sweetheart. But don't wait too long, okay?

I BEG! BEG FOR SOME hughes!sister x Nico Au
Where Jack find out about them by accident, and Jacks like “You’re my sister, and THIS is what you do to me?”
PLEASE ITS A NEED
i’m so happy that u like the au!!🫶
-
Dawsons the one to break the news to Jack. they’re sitting on his coach, both scrolling on their phones and gossiping with each other.
“crazy how Blake and Nico are dating eh?” Dawson says, his newfie accent thick as he pauses on the newest photo on his instagram feed.
Jack chuckles, “man what are you talking about”. he tosses his phone beside him on the couch and leans back, not believing for a second that his twin would be dating his captain.
“Nico and Blake?” Dawson continues cluelessly. he scrolls through Blake's photos, stopping at a very obvious pic of her and Nico with his silhouette cropped out. Dawson tilts his phone towards Jack.
“you’re fucking lying,” Jack gasps, sitting up from his position and taking hold of Dawsons phone.
“you didn’t know..?” Dawson’s so confused… the relationship between their captain and the Hughes sister was very obvious to everyone near the couple.
Jack shoots up out of his seat and quickly pockets his phone as he rushes out his goodbyes to Dawson.
“you’re my sister and THIS is what you do to me?” Jack shouts, storming into Blake's quiet apartment. she looks up from her book to see a fuming Jack in her entrance way.
“what…. did i do?”
“my captain?? you’re screwing my captain!” he shouts again, tugging on his hair as he walks through her apartment.
when he starts pacing, Blake's anxiety grows.
“i didn’t… i’m not-“
“don’t lie to me,” Jack bites, whipping around to face a shell shocked Blake.
Blake stares at her twin, anxious tears threatening her eyesight as she rushes out an apology. “i’m so sorry Jack. I know it’s wrong but we’re adults and he’s so-“ she gasps, “he’s so sweet and-“ she gasps again, tears winning their battle and steaming down her face.
“don’t cry about it” Jack scuffs, and as much as he doesn’t want to admit it in this moment Blake being upset always made him upset. he walks over to his sister, sitting quietly on the floor in front of her spot on the couch. he stares straight ahead, stewing in his own upset while also letting Blake know that they’re going to work it out.
truly though, this was so damn annoying for Jack. out of everyone, her sister would choose his captain? he sighed.
“i’m sorry” Blake whispers again, nudging Jack's shoulder with her fist.
“it’s whatever” Jack sighs, all of his energy being drained from his earlier outburst.
the twins sit in silence for a while, before Jack starts up again.
“oh my god is that why you have his jersey sitting in your closet?” he gasps, turning to face his sister.
“how do you know about that!”
Jack blinks at her, “you force me to bring you sweaters when you’re cold, what are you talking about?”
“okay well-“
“oh my god!” he continues. “that’s why you were fuming that night of the wag party… you were jealous that he was talking to somebody else!”
“okay i’m happy that you kind of moved on from your anger but we really don’t have to go through all-“
“BROO!!! that’s why Nico was asking me about your favourite things??? he said he just wanted to know your coffee order to make you feel better but he liked you!” Jack gasps, shifting himself so that he was laying on the floor and staring up at the ceiling.
Blake blushes at Jacks retelling. “Nicos so sweet,”
“ugh,” Jack groans loudly and dramatically. he thrashes around on the ground, before settling and staring up at his sister. “don’t say any of that shit to me,”
“I thought you were cool with us now!” Blake protests.
“no,” Jack states. “after that comment i take it all back”
“that was innocent though?” Blake laughs at Jack's struggle. he looked like he was in pain.
before Jack has the chance to say anything, Blake’s phone rings and she happily answers. she puts it on speaker and Nicos voice blares through the phone loud and clear. “hey babe!”
“UGH,” Jack groans.
“Jack?” Nico is immediately panicking thinking that he’d just blown their cover.
“he knows,” Blake responds for Jack, who hides his face in his hands.
“this is disgusting” Jack mutters.
“you told him?” Nico asks, completely bypassing Jack's comment.
“no,” Blake responds before turning to Jack. “wait… how did you find out?”
“Dawson,” Jacks voice is muffled behind his hands.
“Dawson knows?” Nico questions in disbelief.
“I guess we’re not too discreet,” Blake chuckles, causing another loud groan to rip through Jack.
