The sight of the blood is what really makes him freeze, but then he’s looking around. While he wasn’t the best with it, he did know a little bit about tending to wounds. It was kind of a necessity for them. His jacket is pulled off, and the sleeve is pressed to the wound.

          he isn’t sure if he should embrace her, after everything.   donnie was never aware of what the right, socially appropriate action was to take.    should he wrap his arms around her, or let her hold onto him & get her emotions out?   he has a sudden urge to wipe away the few stray tears that have managed to leak from her eyes and make wet tracks down her cheeks.   april began hiding her face against don’s plastron, which was slightly covered by an aesthetically ripped white tank top.   he even dressed up for this human shin-dig.   complete with a dark grey beanie and flared black pants with large pockets on each side.   all to waste now because donnie lost his cool ;   what was his problem?   that wasn’t like him, even if he was defending his dear friend.   & april was precisely that  --   near & dear to him, & perhaps even someone who was more than simply a friend.   trying not to stiffen at the feeling of fingers against his battle shell, donnie decides to take the leap &, swallowing a lump of nervousness in his throat, he reaches a three-fingered hand up to april’s face and cups her cheek.   he lifts her face up & wipes away a stray tear with his thumb.

         even as he brings april’s face up to look at him, he still can’t meet her eyes.   “you realize that what that imbecile said isn’t true, right?   he was just trying to get under our skin.   under your skin.   he couldn’t wrap his mind around the hilarious complexities of my superior insults, so he had to resort to vulgarity.   you...  are wonderful.   & you are so smart, april o’neil.   & fearless.  & a magnet for all things weird.   & as someone who is positively odd...   i am glad you are in my life.   you must know that i do not think those things about you.   i never have & i never will.   he was just being stupid.”

         despite the chill of the night air around them, there is a warmth that is creeping up donnie’s neck & spreading across his cheeks.   he drops his hand from her face & scratches the back of his neck where the warmth is beginning to radiate & turns his head to the side.  

         “i...   had fun, all in all.   as you could tell, i am an EXCELLENT dancer.”

Mikey loved skateboarding -- the thrill, the wind blowing in his face, watching things fly past him. It was fun ! And if he was known for one thing, it was fun.

One good thing about New York at night was that the rooftops were mostly empty. Keyword, mostly. This particular night, Mikey wasn't the only one out...and he, unfortunately, didn't learn that fact until he CRASHED into someone, and they both tumbled to the ground.
