But she is so close to winning Eckles. For her, nothing matters except the end of the game. She pushes away her feelings because it's just a game. She pretends to herself that she is not interested in this man because the end is so close. Winning is just around the corner.

Freedom from family, prejudice, death. Back to normal.

And Callisto only dreams of being her return to normality and freedom.

And what's worse, one cannot understand the other.

Chapter 146! Yay!

This is Callisto's face, when his flirtatious, "I can't come and visit my fiance's home whenever I want?" and Penelope asked in response which of her brothers he was engaged to.

Don't worry bro, I changed this image to cheer you up a bit!..

But you just compare the face of Callisto in the previous chapter and the new one. It's a little heartbreaking to actually know where their conversation is headed next.

Finally, I will say that this chapter seemed to me bigger than the usual ones, and I missed the style of SUOL-nim's drawing.... we wish her good health, strength, and hard work!

How to be the favorite uncle as told by Reynold Eckhart

Reynold stared at his new niece with a frown, he found her resemblance to the bast… uh… the emperor disconcerting but she was still adorable away from that. He turned to Derrick and smugly declared, “I’m going to be her favorite uncle!”

Derrick merely rolled his eyes. “You go do that.” He said as he turned his attention back to the baby in their father’s arms. The Imperial bastard was staring at them hard.

Father was still sobbing, upset about her resemblance to her father and the lack of features that she had inherited from Penelope who was asleep within her room, napping after an evening spent feeding the babe. The Emperor faired better than the Empress in this case it seemed. Penelope had refused to use a wet nurse for the little princess and the Emperor insisted on being awake as long as his wife and newborn daughter was awake.

“Hello, Princess. You and I are going to have so much fun!” He said happily.

Step one in Reynold’s plan was to spoil his niece with presents. She was too young yet for some of the things he planned. Like causing mischief within the palace and getting back at the emperor for stealing away his sister. Reynold decided that he was going to get the funds immediately.

"Father, I need..." He began.

"No!" Father said immediately.

"But..."

"Reynold..." Father trailed off too. "You should know that I'm most likely going to say no to whatever harebrained scheme you have."

"But you don't know what I'm even going to ask."

"It's still a no."

"It's for Judith." He said.

Father immediately straightened and reached for his cheque book. "What do you need?"

"I want some money to buy her presents."

Father handed him a blank and signed cheque within a moment.

Penelope hadn't looked pleased when he arrived with ten carriages filled with presents for a baby who was only two days old. Especially when he told her there were at least twenty more set to arrive soon. She sighed at the wasteful extravagance of it all especially the amount of clothes he'd gotten her since she would outgrow them all within a few weeks, well before she even managed to put any of them on.

He ignored her and focused on the baby in his arms, making faces and snuggling up to her.

Step two was quality time.

Reynold spent as much time as he could with Judith, often fighting against his sister and brother-in-law for more time when they came upon him trying to sneak the baby out for some play when she was due to be put down for a nap.

Reynold often also found himself getting kicked out of the imperial palace grounds for sneaking into the nursery to play with her and 'causing mischief' and being a bad influence on his rapidly growing adorable niece.

Though he was allowed to read books to her and was often invited to tea parties with her dollies and little adventures around the palace grounds and within the Duchy.

Step three was to be the adventurous fun uncle.

But to enumerate, they would go around the forest and look for cute little critters for Judith's ever-growing menagerie of pets. Did it get out of hand at times? Definitely not. Unless you ask Penelope, the Emperor, Father, and Derrick.

Speaking of Derrick, his brother was the level-headed calm uncle who always brought them down from their high of playing and enjoyment.

Step four was to be supportive.

This meant that Reynold was always there. Through every scraped knee, every derisive word sent Judith's way for her wings or gender especially in regards to her status as the heir. He was always there, ready to throw a punch or to give her a listening ear, a comforting word, a hug, anything she needed.

And it wasn't just for her, but for her siblings as well.

There were many, many, more things that Reynold had done to become the favorite uncle, things that eventually translated into becoming a good father.

Just wanted to write something nice about Reynold and how he became the uncle the kids were closest too. I feel like he had the most free time and the personality type that allowed him to become reckless and immature enough to play with them.

So about yandere!Penelope, would she try (and most likely succeed) to kill Callisto’s family by herself? Or would she maybe help Callisto murder them? Because I just had the thought that Penelope would, for the Second Queen, Prince, and Marquis Ellen at least, kidnap them and take them to the forest and then have wild bears set loose on them. For poetry’s sake. Thoughts?

IMO, I think yandere!OG Penelope would probably do as you have written out, probably luring them in with a false sense of security, acting the part of a weak commoner turned noble, fawning up to them and having them support her as she gets into their good graces. She would get invited to their secretive parties, all the while she's sneering at them from the shadows behind her plush feathered fans and dark, glittery eyeshadow. She's finally won them over after months, perhaps even years, of putting in the effort to have them trust her as one of them, being part of their plans to bring Callisto down from his high horse and when all seems to go well...they turn to see her upon a high cliff, in a gorgeous gown, celebratory jewelry dazzling upon her, blush lipstick upon her lips that spread into a wicked and dastardly smile as Callisto appears from behind her, pulling her gently into his side, wrapping his arm around her waist as they look down upon his family as the snarls of the bears draw ever closer. "This is what you get for underestimating us."

In the latest chapter Callisto looks so surprised after receiving Penelope’s gift. Despite teasing her, he was not expecting such a thing.

It’s always as if he’s glad to get anything from her. It doesn’t matter what the gift is, as long as he knows she thinks of him.

More specifically, Penelope’s gift is a cufflink with healing magic imbedded into the ruby.

She was embarrassed to give him the cufflink because she didn’t know what to give to someone who already had everything; that’s literally her thought process when he opens the box.

Callisto is a little confused by the healing abilities of the gem, but Penelope says it’s so he won’t complain about her lack of healing magic when he hurts himself next, basically hinting at their conversation in Solael after he rescued her from the lizard monsters (ch.116)

He ends up piercing his ear with the cufflink, using it as an earring instead, because he wants to wear it immediately.

So although he teased her for her gift, it means a lot to him. Callisto likes getting her attention, no matter whatever the circumstances may be.

It’s quite obvious that Callisto enjoys the way she ‘fusses’ over his well-being.

He likes seeing her worry for him, because despite being usually cold in their interactions, Penelope does care, and the way she acts whenever he’s injured is proof of it.

Callisto is this way because, as we will learn later on, he truly loves Penelope, she is everything he has. No one’s ever showed care for him like she did, nor did they make him feel like she does. He never gets angry at her for things that would usually spike his temper, but instead he finds her amusing.

Callisto has always had a plan: after ascending the throne, he was going to burn the empire to the ground and start wars upon wars until nothing remained. And yet for Penelope, he didn’t.

He loves her greatly, and even while on the brink of death, Callisto is willing to let Penelope go back to her world because that’s what she wanted. In the side stories he can be defined only as clingy, and it’s such a different look on him than what we’ve seen so far.

Callisto also mentioned how he thought that his lust and desire were killed on the battlefield by trampling around blood, but this changes when he’s with Penelope.

She is the only thing on his mind, yet Callisto doesn’t seem to mind, it’s the opposite actually.

Callisto and Penelope play board games in their free time. To make the game more interesting, Callisto suggested playing for money. From then on, no matter how big or small the amount of money was, Callisto never won again, because his wife “loves money a little more than loves her husband” (Callisto’s words, because of which he almost went bald)

Redemption of the forgotten love

Funny little snippet for this little angst filled fic that is currently one of my WIPs. P.S. that’s just my working title.

Penelope stared at this man, this high lord who claimed to have been her lover, the father of her daughter, and yes, he very much resembled her. But her memories of him were gone, along with any other possible feelings to tell her otherwise. Despite that, he swore a magic oath to speak naught but the truth to her and that he would never hurt her or Judith.

She nodded and turned away still, intending to think things through when she caught sight of golden fur and a frivolously wagging tail. “Callisto!” She called out and her puppy ran to her.

The high lord startled. “Yes, what? Do you remember me after all, Penelope?” He asked hopeful.

“What are you talking about?” She asked him in confusion.

“You just called out my name.”

“Callisto!” She snapped when the rowdy puppy knocked into the high lord.

“There! You just called me again.”

She stared at him blankly. “Your name is Callisto?” She asked. Staring between the high lord and the puppy that was her daughter’s best friend.

Slow dawning realization appeared on the high lord’s face. “Don’t tell me… you were calling the dog, weren’t you? You named your dog after me.”

“Unknowingly, it seems.”

It seemed as though he deflated a bit, now reminding her greatly of when her puppy experienced great disappointment that the food was not for him.

Plot synopsis: Callisto fell under the Laila’s thrall, hurting and nearly killing the woman he loved and causing her to flee. After she escapes, Penelope loses her memory and she gives birth to his daughter. Sometime after that, Callisto breaks free from the thrall and launches a search. After being mistakenly believed to have died in the incident where she lost her memories, Callisto finds her alive and well, daughter, dog, and all. And now he has to win all three over.
