[Were you in the restaurant business before this? Not at all. I started making pizza at home. And suited Heidegger to make himself sound this naive. Now he's got Chef Grayson Reeder cranking out his recipes. I love the pizza here.]

“I Might be a Teeny Tiny Bit Sick, But it’s Fine.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@sicktember Day 14
Fandom: Stranger Things, Rockstar AU
Summary: When Eddie gets sick on tour, Steve offers to fill in for him at the next Corroded Coffin show 👀
Comments: Shoutout to @dontfeeltoohot , for making my requested edits for these fics
Word Count: 2.8k
CW: None
Eddie rubbed his nose with his palm as they sat on the tour bus. Corroded Coffin had finished their Baltimore show the night before and were on the road to Newark after a quick breakfast.
Everyone had noticed Eddie being a little quieter the past two days - something he told them was just due to his voice being tired from touring. The 28 year old knew it was more than that though. His throat was sore, but he’d also felt the congestion settling in since they finished the show last night.
“-at do you think Eddie?”
Eddie looked up, lost in thought. “Sorry?”
Jeff shook his head, laughing. “I was saying maybe we switch up the order of the setlist tonight. Surprise the fans a little. What do you think?”
“Uh yeah!” Eddie rubbed the back of his neck, “Sounds fun to me. Just make sure the crew knows before.”
“Already on it.” Tim looked up from his phone, where he appeared to be sending a message to the crew and their manager, Zoey.
“Anyone look into good places for dinner when we get there?” Gareth asked, twirling a drumstick with his right hand.
“I saw a good review for a pizza pl-”
“H’KtchiEW! T’schew! hehh AKT’chEW!”
“Bless you… this good pizza place on 4th st-”
“IKT’ssCHIEW! Fuck! sorry. snrFF Dry air on this fucking bus is murdering my allergies.” He lied, swiping a ringed knuckle under his nose.
The guys laughed, all too familiar with their bandmate’s allergies.
“You won’t have to suffer too much longer. Should be there in like an hour and a half.” Tim pointed out. Eddie nodded and got up to go find a tissue.
---
It was Corroded Coffin tradition to go out for an early dinner before soundcheck whenever they arrived in a new city. Although Steve wasn’t touring with them 24/7, he flew out for at least half of the stops, the east coast being several of them.
Steve was already waiting outside the pizza parlor when the band walked up. Eddie running ahead and jokingly straddling Steve.
“Missed having you around.” He mumbled into Steve’s neck, consonants rounded by the congestion.
Steve pulled back and looked his partner up and down. “Missed you too. You okay?”
“Mmhmm, just happy you’re here.”
The other guys approached, slapping Steve’s hand and pulling him in for a hug.
Their early dinner was filled with catching up with Steve - telling him about the crazy antics at the shows he missed and hearing about what he’d been up to in the down time. Steve was telling a story about something silly Robin had said when Eddie turned to the side bringing the fabric napkin up to his face.
“Nxxxt! MP’tssch! NG’tchEW!”
“Bless you!” Steve reached over and rubbed a hand on Eddie’s back. “You sure you’re okay Eds? You sound like you’re getting sick…”
“THANK YOU!” Gareth exclaimed a little too loud. He looked around the restaurant and then lowered his voice a little, “He’s been trying to convince us it’s been allergies the last few days.”
“Because it is!” Eddie retorted.
“Come on man…” Jeff added, “We’ve known you since middle school. We can tell when it’s allergies and when it’s not.”
“Okay fine! I might be a teeny tiny bit sick, but it’s fine.” He looked at his friends who seemed unconvinced, “It’s fine.”
“If you say so dude. Let’s roll, we’re gonna be late for sound check.” The guys all threw down some cash and made their way back to the arena.
---
The lights beamed in Eddie’s face as they stood on stage for sound and lighting check. As always, they played a few bars on their instruments and then sang or spoke a couple of things into their microphone.
They got to Eddie last. He pulled out his guitar pick and started to play when he felt a tickle. Both hands on the guitar, he scrunched his nose.
From the back of the room he heard the main AV guy say, “Perfect! Now can you say something into the mic so we can adjust?”
Eddie set the guitar to the side and gave a thumbs up, approaching the microphone, still pawing at his nose.
“Test test. This is Eddie Munson testing the AGK’tchIEW!” The first sneeze snuck up on him, sending it straight into the mic, Steve and the guys flinching as they brought their hands up to their ears.
Eddie managed to direct the next few away from the microphone, “Heh’tsschiEW! IsshEEW!!”
Jeff held his hands out to pause everyone while he made sure there wasn’t another sneeze coming from his friend. He leaned forward into his own mic and deadpanned, “Bless you.”
Gareth, being a comedy genius, hit the ba dum tss on his drums.
The long haired man straightened out, holding the mic stand with one hand, “Sorry…snurFF”
He sniffled soupily, forgetting they were in sound check, the microphone broadcasting his runny nose to the crew.
“Dude!” Tim laughed, Eddie flushing red.
“I’b so sorry. That was so disgusti’g.”
The guys behind him cracked up as Steve ran up to the stage with a tissue. Eddie walked to the front of the stage, crouching down to grab it. “Tha’gks Stevie.” He turned to the side, blowing his nose while the crew finished testing different lighting arrangements.
When soundcheck was over, they went downstairs to change and get ready. Steve and Zoey came down shortly after, looking apprehensive.
“Eddie are you sure you wanna play the show?” She asked.
“Are you joking? Of course. A stupid cold isn’t gonna stop me.”
Zoey sighed and turned to leave, typing on her iPad. Steve grabbed Eddie’s hands and looked at him fondly, “Don’t push yourself too hard okay?”
“I’ll be fine Steve. Promise.” Eddie smiled and gave him a kiss on the forehead as he resumed getting ready.
They could hear the rumble of the crowd before they even got upstairs. They were chanting a countdown from fifteen and the lights dimmed - their cue to make their entrance. One at a time they walked on stage. Gareth first, then Tim, Jeff next. Eddie came on last, slinging on his guitar and playing the opening note for their first song.
The crowd went feral, lights flashing as Gareth’s kick drum set the concert in motion. the first song was always an absolute blast.
“What’s up New Jersey???” Eddie yelled. “I’m a little bit sick tonight, but I’m thinking we’ll still rock out if you want?”
The audience screamed in response.
“You really wanna do this???”
They screamed louder.
“Okay New Jersey, let’s fucking rock!”
---
Eddie could feel his voice going halfway through the show. By the time they finished their last song it was really threatening to go.
“Thank you so much Jersey! You guys really know how to party!” He rasped into the mic. He coughed to the side and continued, “Please give a thanks to the amazing tech crew, to my band, and to yourselves! You guys are fucking awesome! Thank you! Goodnight!!”
The guys all threw up rock n roll hands as they exited the stage, Jeff and Tim throwing picks into the crowd. Eddie coughed, patting a hand on his chest as they were funneled offstage and to the backstage area where Steve was waiting.
“That was so cool! They knew the words to the new songs and everything!” Eddie croaked.
“Eds, your voice.” Steve said sympathetically.
“Yeah dude. Are you gonna be good to play tomorrow’s New York show?” Gareth asked.
“I’ll be fine. Just need some water and a good nights sleep.” He shrugged, but in the back of his mind he had the same question.
---
The answer came fairly early the next morning. It was only an hour drive from Newark to NYC and Zoey had booked them a hotel for the evening.
Steve and Eddie had crashed ‘early’ while the other guys presumably went to the hotel bar for a nightcap. Steve had been the first to wake up, sneaking off to shower in hopes that some extra sleep would do his boyfriend some good.
Unfortunately he could hear Eddie coughing as soon as he got out and it didn’t sound too good. He threw on jeans and a T shirt, hanging the wet towel to dry as he went back into the bedroom.
“That doesn’t sound too good Eddie.”
The older man cleared his throat, “Doesn’t feel too good either.”
Steve stretched a hand out, but pulled back when he saw Eddie’s eyes flutter shut.
“IK’tchew! HNG’chEW! H’AGTchiEW!”
“Bless you! Sheesh…” Steve extended his arm again, placing a gentle hand to Eddie’s forehead. “You feel pretty warm… how do you feel?”
“Like shit, man.” Rock n roll hands once again in front of his face. “Can you hand me my phone? Needa call Zoey.”
About half an hour later, a band meeting was called in Eddie’s hotel room. Steve sat next to him on the bed, band mates and Zoey on the chairs and sofa around the room.
“So we need to address the obvious which is the show tonight,” Zoey started, “Eddie, what do you want to do?”
Steve didn’t think it was fair to put the question on just Eddie like that.
The older man seemed to think, “Well I don’t want to disappoint the fans at all. They bought tickets and everything. But I also don’t want to-”
He paused to cough wetly into his elbow, Tim wincing at the sound, “I don’t want to give a shitty performance either. I’m like. 90% mucus right now…”
Gareth spoke up, “We’ll do whatever you feel comfortable with. If you want to just play guitar and save your voice, we’ll cover you. If you want to cancel altogether, we have your back on that too.”
Jeff and Tim nodded in solidarity. Steve looked over at Eddie who seemed so disappointed and heartbroken. He knew he should cancel but they’d never cancelled a gig before. And NYC was a big one.
“I can do it.” Steve spoke before he realized.
“What?” Zoey looked up.
“I said uh… I guess I said I could play like… if you want. Eddie’s been teaching me guitar so I know the songs. Not nearly as well as him, but I know them.” Steve blushed, thinking the idea sounded stupid.
“I’ll tell you Zoey, he’s being modest. Steve knows his shit.” Eddie was supportive of this idea. “He played a small gig with us before we left for tour. If the guys help him out I’m sure he could do it.”
“I’ve heard him sing in the shower too.” Jeff added, “He’s good.”
Steve blushed even harder at the supportive comments coming from his friends. A hand on his wrist brought him back to realist. Eddie was looking up at him with his big brown eyes, “Is that really something you’re okay with doing Steve?”
“Yeah I mean. I’ve heard your songs so many times, I know them all by heart.”
Zoey scrolled on her iPad checking other token items to bring up, “You’d be okay doing the meet and greet as well, Steve?”
“Anything you need me for, I’m game. Just want Eddie to feel better.”
“Aww. You’re too khhh HEH’gktchiEW! … kind.”
Steve laughed, “I didn’t finish my thought. I want Eddie to feel better because he’s so disgustingly sick right now.”
Eddie elbowed him in the side. “I thi’gk it’s settled then? Harri’gton will take my spot.”
---
The New York venue was different from the others. It wasn’t a stadium, but a huge outdoor stage in Central Park. A couple local news outlets were present. The performance was being streamed for a televised music festival.
Since it was so public, AV crew did sound check for them prior to their arrival. Everything was already set up. Steves eyes were wide as he took it all in.
“Nervous dude?” Jeff asked.
“I mean yeah.”
“Don’t be. Fans already know who you are. They’ll eat this shit up.”
The guys took their positions on stage, leaving the spot front and center empty. Gareth leaned into the microphone by his drums. “Hey everyone! What’s up? We’re Corroded Coffin!”
The crowd screamed in anticipation, “So… we got some bad news. Our pal Eddie? He’s real sick. It’s actually pretty fucking gross.”
There were some ‘awwww’s and ‘wait what??’s from the crowd.
“So anyways!!!! Instead of cancelling we roped in his boyfriend!!! Please welcome to the stage - filling in for Eddie today - Steve ‘the hair’ Harrington!!!!”
Immediately the crowd went nuts as Steve walked on stage, waving at the fans. Fans knew him, and the diehards LOVED him.
“Oh my god STEEEEEEEEEVE!!!” They screamed.
The crowd simmered down as the guys got ready to play the first song, one fan taking the opportunity to yell, “I LOVE YOU STEVE HARRINGTON!!!”
The guys laughed and Steve got close to the mic, “That’s so kind of you, I love you too. This song is called Sleeping with Sativa. Hope I don’t butcher it too much.”
The younger man smiled and turned to Gareth, who counted them in with his drumsticks before they went full metal, Steve shredding away on his boyfriend’s guitar.
Throughout the gig, Steve tried to take in the crowd. He scanned everyone’s faces, understanding why this gives Eddie a high.
In between songs, the guys would banter or tell funny anecdotes about Steve or Eddie. By the time they made it to the last song, Steve was on top of the world.
“Thank you guys so much for an amazing show!” Tim yelled into his microphone. “And for welcoming King Steve here with open arms! He really fucking rocks doesn’t he???”
“Give it up for Steve Harrington!!” Jeff added as Gareth played them out on drums.
Steve bowed and waved, grinning from ear to ear. “Thank you, New York!!!! We’ll be around for about an hour to meet you all if you’re interested! Swing by the smoothie stand!”
A bunch of people cheered and ran over to the area already. The guys came forward to join Steve and waved to the crowd before jogging off stage.
“Oh my god Steve I didn’t know you had it in you!! I mean, I did, but like. That was amazing!” Tim yelled, lifting Steve up and carrying him towards the smoothie stand.
Jeff and Gareth followed suit, chanting, “STEVE. STEVE. STEVE. STEVE!”
Zoey was already at the smoothie stand, creating a somewhat orderly line for the fans who wanted to meet the band. They all had shirts to be signed or wanted pictures.
The next hour was filled with a ton of fans saying, “Steve that was amazing!”
Or
“You need to join the band!!!!”
Or, in the case of one crying girl,
“Oh my god I’m dead that was so good! I love you and I love Eddie and please tell him to feel better!”
Steve grabbed her by both hands and said, “I will, love, thanks for coming out.”
Zoey took the opportunity to snap a few pictures and text them to Eddie. “Steve with more than a few fans after the show. He killed it!”
---
Steve had gone out for drinks with the rest of the band after they finished up the meet and greet. The 26 year old was a little bit tipsy when he sauntered into the hotel room he was sharing with Eddie.
The man in question was propped up in bed, sipping on a tea from room service. “How did it go??”
Steve just grinned as wide as possible and held up his own rock n roll hands.
“That good huh?” Eddie smiled, “Zoey sent me some pictures! Come here.”
The older man opened his arms for a hug and Steve came over leaning into it. “That was so fun Eds, thanks for letting me fill in.”
“Are you kidding Stevie?? Thank YOU for covering my ass. Geez.”
“Can I see the pictures?” Steve asked.
“Ummm Absolutely.”
Eddie showed Steve the pictures, his heart warm watching Steve’s face light up as he pointed at them. “That’s me!”
Eddie immediately took to Instagram with his favorite of the pictures:
Zoey sent me this pic of @KingSteve meeting some of our younger fans tonight after the show! New York, thanks for giving him all your love and support while I was sick as hell! Feeling better and hope to be back for the Chicago shows! Stay metal! 🏻
Steve quickly reposted to his Instagram a picture that a fan took of him during the set:
THANK YOU NEW YORK!!!
They both chuckled at Robin’s surprised reaction to seeing Steve performing on stage instead of Eddie.
“We’ll call them tomorrow.” They decided.
Steve hopped in the shower before joining his boyfriend in bed, still incredibly happy, but energy wearing off. He let his eyes close.
“Hey Steve?”
“Yeah Ed’s?”
“Metal looks good on you.”

✨ Obnoxious foodie birthday post incoming ✨
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you ever find yourself Baltimore way I can sing highly the praises of Cosima, a seasonal/ mostly locally sourced Sicilian restaurant that truly owns my heart ft. My Birthday Dinner- spiced Italian beer and an amaro Manhattan. Mussels with Italian sausage. Pizza of the day with chili oil, bacon, and scallops. The bar and original mill structure of the building. My partner's red snapper and saffron risotto and my roast duck with spiced potato and cranberry confit with broccolini (truly Christmas in a dish?). They then surprised us with Panna Cotta with cardamom, amaretto cherries, and blood oranges, and a glass of sparkling rose, alongside the limoncello tiramisu we had ordered.
This is going to be the most pretentious thing is say on this fuckin site but- if you go, you like fish, and they don't sell out? Order the Branzino. You won't be disappointed.

highlights from our road trip to NYC and back to help a friend move
telling our waitress at Waffle House about Trigun because I brought a volume of the manga into the restaurant and she was like oh, I usually just watch anime but is that manga any good?
why the fuck are half the rest stops on the NJ turnpike closed right now????
going to Brooklyn for the Uhaul and forgetting to play Brooklyn Rage despite discussing it multiple times over the past week
trying to find parking in Hells Kitchen for said Uhaul
giving up and just illegally parking it because fuck it, we aren't going to be leaving it unattended anyway
sorta planning to caravan because Liz + Pat were in the Uhaul and I was in my car with Chi + her dog, but those plans pretty much immediately fell apart
me bemoaning not having time to go to the Starbucks Reserve Roastery, aka the worst, most pretentious sbux I've ever been to, because my keychain from it broke. not five minutes later we drove past it by accident BUT THERE WAS NOWHERE TO PULL OVER and Chi was like "lol oh well" at my suffering.
part two of sbux: a truck pulled out, leaving the perfect space for me to park in and run inside for a new, terrible keychain.
part three of sbux: THEY DON'T SELL FUCKING KEYCHAINS ANYMORE MY LIFE IS A MOCKERY
getting a huge pizza + garlic knots before leaving NYC because 1) IT'S NYC and 2) there's no good pizza in Baltimore I gotta take what I can get
meeting up at the Alexander Hamilton rest stop - cue Liz singing from Hamilton - to eat said pizza because it was impossible to find anywhere to park and chill in NYC
"What if we kissed at the New Jersey turnpike rest stop..."
"...and we were both Plants?"
me and Liz being cringe, much to everyone else's dismay
seriously tho why the fuck are half the NJ turnpike rest stops closed right now
Chi's dog experiencing grass for the first time (at a NJ turnpike rest stop) and liking it
Chi's dog experiencing being in a car for the first time and NOT liking it
Liz being apparently too damn efficient at driving and somehow overtaking me despite being in a Uhaul
subjecting Chi to many of my Trigun opinions because she was stuck in a car with me for four hours and I have can't shut the fuck up disease
"You bring out the worst in me (affectionate)."
Chi @ me, tho I can't even remember why now XD
calling each other's vehicles multiple times throughout the trip to yell about passing each other on the road and/or whatever other dumb thoughts we all had that couldn't be contained to just one car
SIX FUCKING DOLLARS for vending machine offbrand dippin dots
Chi's dog experiencing yards for the first time and not wanting to leave the yard to go inside our house
Ethyl being the peace bringer and somehow calming down Chi's dog and Lumos and helping them meet
AAAAAND that's it, or at least all I can handle right now because I'm so damn tired I wanna pass out. sorry not sorry for my longass post; it's spring break day one for me ;D

BALTIMORE -- A 30-year-old Baltimore man was sentenced to life plus 85 years for his role in a 2021 fatal shooting at a pizza shop in Pigtown, the Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office said.
Anthony Priester was convicted in July on eight counts, including first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, conspiracy and weapons charges, stemming from a shooting on March 26, 2021 in the 1100 block of Washington Boulevard.
Cameron Green was shot multiple times inside the Bella Roma Pizza shop there about 1:02 a.m. and pronounced dead a short time later. A second victim was shot in the leg and buttocks, wounds that were deemed non-life-threatening.
Officers recovered 63 shell casings, a laser scope, bullet fragments and multiple projectiles at the scene, prosecutors said.
According to prosecutors, five masked gunmen pulled up in a gray Honda Accord, exited the car in front of the restaurant and started opening fire. The shooters got back in the car and went eastbound on W. Cross Street.
Surveillance video showed Priester was driving the Honda Accord, prosecutors said.
Police executed a search and seizure warrant on Priester's Northeast Baltimore home on April 1, 2021 and he fled along with a woman. Officers pursued them until the pair eventually crashed at the intersection of Hamilton and Birchwood avenues, prosecutors said.
Priester and the woman were arrested. He was apprehended wearing the same jacket he was seen with in surveillance video of the shooting, prosecutors said.
A short time later, a woman in the 4100 block of Moravia Road called police to report a gun had been found in a puddle outside her home. Priester had led police through the area during the chase, prosecutors said.
The 9mm Beretta had an extended magazine with 23 rounds and one in the chamber, prosecutors said. The BPD Firearms Lab linked the gun with casings recovered at the scene of the shooting in Pigtown.
Investigators recovered a second extended magazine in Priester's home and the sneakers he was wearing on the night of the shooting, prosecutors said.
"This hefty sentence is a testament to the severity of Mr. Priester's violent actions and total disregard for human life. Our residents, our streets, our businesses, and our homes should never be subjected to gunfire and mayhem. I am thankful for the outcome of this case and I hope it provides some closure for the victims and their families," said State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby.
Priester is ineligible for parole during the first 15 years of his sentence.

A trip to Italy, without leaving the East Coast Book features recipes, stories and shopping meccas for the foodie who craves Italian delights
Tumblr media
Last week, while driving down Wooster Street in New Haven’s Little Italy, and passing Consiglio’s, the quintessential restaurant where everyone is treated like family, I recalled meeting and interviewing Sheryll Bellman, author of “America’s Little Italys: Recipes & Traditions from Coast to Coast” (2010, Sellers Publishing). Check out the video here bit.ly/3KLWpmi
Tumblr media

It was more than a decade ago when she was at her book signing dinner at the restaurant. I was determined to find the book in my massive collection and reacquaint myself with the title. I’m glad I did. I was reminded of the days growing up in the Bensonhurst part of Brooklyn, NY, and the Italian specialty food shops and iconic Italian restaurants my parents brought me. Gargiulo’s and Carolina’s were two of my favorites. I remember the original Sbarro’s with real cheese and cured meat hanging from the ceiling, not at all like today’s version of the eateries’ serving mass-produced food with wax or plastic cheese and meat replicas hanging.
Reading through the book, I was brought back in time to my visits to several Little Italy’s; Manhattan, The Bronx (Arthur Avenue) Boston, Providence, New Orleans, and of course, Bensonhurst, plus New Haven’s, a couple of miles from my home. The Italian enclaves Bellman showcases that I have not visited yet are in Philadelphia, Chicago, Cleveland, Baltimore, Wilmington, St. Louis, San Francisco and San Diego.

Bellman takes you on a trip to 50 plus Italian restaurants, specialty shops and markets in several cities that still celebrate the immigrants who created these vibrant neighborhoods, albeit many are not as expansive as they once were.  And let’s not forget the flavorful dishes that are now an integral part of the culinary scene in America. The coveted family recipes of the restaurant owners shared in the book are signature dishes still served today.  Recipes from landmark Little Italy restaurants in Philadelphia and New Haven are shared below.

The book’s timeline of events in the Italian American cultural history, stems all the way back to the early Greeks and Romans (6,000-5,000 B.C.E.) It presents interesting facts about Italian American cultural history and iconic Italian products. Here are some:
Philadelphia folks…., did you know….
• In 1899, the DiRocco family of Philadelphia opened Dante & Luigi’s Corona DiFerro, a restaurant combined with a boarding house, to attract Italian immigrants arriving in the city.
• In 1900, the Dispigno family opened Ralph’s Italian Restaurant in a rented building at 901 Montrose St. in South Philly and named it after their 10-year-old son Ralph.
• In 1933, upon the repeal of prohibition, John DiStefano opened The Victor Café; the Music Lovers Rendezvous” in what was previously the RCA Victor Gramophone shop.
And for those of you who have visited the iconic pizzerias and Little Italy in New Haven (where I have lived since 1984), you are probably familiar with Frank Pepe’s white clam pie.
• In 1925, Frank opened Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana and lived above the restaurant. Today, the original still has long lines with hungry locals and visitors craving “Abeetz” (ah-beetz), the way Neopolitan immigrants pronounced pizza when they arrived in New Haven. Now, there are many Pepe’s locations throughout the U.S.
I reconnected with Sheryll Bellman recently and asked her these questions:
1. Why did you choose to write about America’s Little Italy’s.?
I enjoy writing about anything nostalgic and adore the photos of yesteryear (the book has many) and I love everything Italian. These family restaurants are being replaced by other types of restaurants and I want to preserve this unique culture that is slowly fading away”
2. Your book was written more than a decade ago. Over the years, what has changed about America’s Little Italys?
Many restaurants have closed, one reason, the children of these restaurants and shops didn’t want to work in the businesses their parents, grandparents and in many cases, great-grandparents started.  In the book, I wrote, “many Little Italy communities have dissipated over the years. The residents have left these warm and comfortable enclaves for a more assimilated lifestyle in diverse neighborhoods. The Italian American communities in Minneapolis and Duluth, Minnesota, populated by immigrants from Naples and Calabria, no longer exist.”
3. Do you consider the Italian Emporium “Eataly” a Little Italy in Itself?
No. Eataly is housed in one building and not necessarily in the neighborhoods of Italian culture. In the Little Italys, people lived above their stores and restaurants. It was a whole neighborhood, not just one building.
4. Do you think most of the restaurants you write about are still in business? What do you think has caused the closing of many of them?
Many have closed because of the economy and the after-effects of COVID. As I mentioned, restaurant and shop owners’ children didn’t want to continue the tradition.  They went to college. It’s also a very hard business.
5. What new projects are in the works?
I have written a book I am thinking of calling “Scattered Embers.” It is about the Jews who came to Mexico…specifically there were three waves of immigration; after the Inquisition in Spain and Portugal, after the Ottoman Empire collapsed and after the Holocaust. Of course, food is weaved into the book. For example, the bland food prepared by Eastern Europeans who came to Mexico melded well with Mexican spices. My grandmother’s matzo ball soup recipes were made with jalapenos!
Sheryll said, “Who could ever have imagined a life without opera, great art or Italian food?” You’ll most likely agree that these contributions greatly influenced the American cultural landscape. While reading the book you’ll discover the journey that has brought this fascinating culture and one of our favorite cuisines to the United States. She said, “the Italian immigrants brought with them rich traditions that included love for romance, literature, science, commerce, style, and of course, most notably—food. Buon Appetito!
The Victor Café Veal, Chicken or Turkey Marsala
8 (4-ounce) veal, chicken or turkey cutlets, pounded to 1 /8-inch thick
All-purpose flour, for dredging
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon butter (optional) 5 chopped cloves garlic
1 cup Marsala wine, plus 2 tablespoons to deglaze pan
1 cup sliced mushrooms
Salt and pepper, to taste
Chopped fresh Italian (flat-leaf) parsley, for garnish (optional)
Lightly dredge the meat cutlets in flour and shake off excess flour. In a 10-inch skillet, heat the olive oil and butter (if using), over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and sauté until lightly browned. Sauté the meat, a few pieces at a time, until lightly browned on both sides. Add the Marsala wine and mushrooms, reduce the heat to medium, and cook 2 to 3 minutes, or until mushrooms are softened. Remove the meat and mushrooms to platter and sprinkle on salt and pepper. Keep warm in a very low oven. To the skillet, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of Marsala and simmer over medium heat, while stirring to loosen the pan drippings, until the alcohol cooks off, about 3 minutes. Pour over the meat and sprinkle with the chopped parsley. If the sauce has become too thick, add some chicken broth or stock to thin it. Serve with a medley of sautéed carrots, zucchini, and tomatoes. Serves 4
Dante & Luigi’s Clams & Spaghetti Marinara
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1½ tablespoons sliced garlic
1½ tablespoons minced onion
Pinch of red pepper flakes, or to taste
48 littleneck clams, well-rinsed
1 cup white wine
1 cup fish stock
20 leaves of fresh basil
Pinch of salt and black pepper, or to taste
¾ cup marinara sauce 1 pound dried spaghetti or linguini
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. In a 10 to12-inch sauté pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and onion and sauté for 2 minutes, until browned. Add the red pepper flakes and the clams and sauté for another 3 minutes. Deglaze the pan with the white wine and cook over medium heat until the liquid is reduced by half. Add the fish stock and cook for 3 minutes more. Add the basil, salt, pepper, and marinara sauce and cook for 3 to 6 minutes, or until all of the clams have opened. (Discard any clams that did not open.) While the clams are cooking, add the pasta to the boiling, salted water and cook until al dente. Drain well. Pour the clam sauce over the pasta. Serves 4
Ralph’s Roasted Garlic Soup
22 cloves garlic (from about 3 heads)
½ cup extra-virgin olive oil, plus extra to coat garlic cloves
1 large onion, preferably Spanish, chopped
3 (28-ounce) cans whole, peeled Italian tomatoes, crushed by hand
2 cups heavy cream
12 fresh basil leaves, chopped
Salt and black pepper, to taste
½ cup chopped fresh Italian (flat-leaf) parsley, for garnish
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Coat 16 of the garlic cloves with olive oil and place on a sheet pan. Roast the garlic for 40 minutes. While the garlic is roasting, prepare the soup. Using the side of a large knife, crush the remaining 6 cloves of garlic. In a 4-quart stockpot, heat the ½ cup of olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and crushed garlic and cook until the onion is transparent, and garlic is turning a golden color. Add the crushed tomatoes and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and cook for 40 minutes, stirring frequently. Add the cream, basil, salt, and black pepper, and cook another 15 minutes. To serve, divide the soup among four large soup bowls. Add 4 roasted garlic cloves and a generous spoonful of chopped parsley to each bowl. Serve with toasted Italian bread. Serves 4
Frank Pepe’s White Clam Pizza
The headnote says, “Frank Pepe’s doesn’t measure when making this divine pizza, but, these few guidelines may help.”
10 to12 ounces pizza dough of your choice
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
3 large cloves garlic, chopped
1 dozen freshly shucked clams, coarsely chopped (reserve any juice)
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Place the dough in the center of a pizza stone or a 9 x 12-inch sheet pan. Flatten and stretch the dough by hand to about 10 inches in diameter on the stone or to the edges of the sheet pan. Brush the olive oil on the dough. Sprinkle the chopped garlic all over the dough, and then spread the clams around the pie with a dash of their own juice. Sprinkle with the oregano and cheese. Bake until the pie is charred on the edges, about 15 minutes. Makes 1 round (10-inch) pizza or 1 rectangular 9 x 12-inch pizza.

Best Places to Eat in Baltimore
Introduction
Baltimore, MD is a city of neighborhoods, and no one neighborhood has it all. But each neighborhood has its own distinct vibe, and those vibes are best explored through food. I've found the following places to be some of the best for eating in Baltimore—I've tried them all, and would recommend them if you find yourself in town!
Woodberry Kitchen
Woodberry Kitchen is a neighborhood restaurant that serves farm-to-table food. It's located in the Woodberry neighborhood of Baltimore, so you can expect to find all sorts of local produce on the menu here. The seasonal menu changes regularly and features dishes like braised pork belly with buttermilk biscuits and sorghum butter; wood-roasted quail with root vegetables; or butter-poached lobster with ramp mayonnaise and potato chips.
Woodberry Kitchen has been named one of America's best new restaurants by Food & Wine magazine, so you know it will be worth your time!
The Helmand
Helmand is a great place to get your Afghan food fixed. Located in the heart of Hampden, this restaurant serves up some of the best Middle Eastern cuisines in Baltimore. The Helmand also has a full bar and craft beer selection, so you can grab drinks with friends while you wait for your table or order takeout from their extensive menu options.
The Helmand offers several lunch specials daily. You can find everything from falafel sandwiches to kebabs on their lunch menu from 11:30 am-3 pm Monday through Friday! If you're looking for something more hearty than soup after work or school, try one of their kabobs; they come served with rice pilaf and salad greens for only $16 during happy hour every day between 4 pm-6 pm (regular price is around $19).
Bo Brooks Bar-B-Q
Bo Brooks is a great place to eat if you're looking for some good Southern food. It's located in South Baltimore, so it's not super close to any other attractions but the food makes up for it. When you walk into this restaurant, it feels like you're stepping back in time and entering someone's home kitchen. The service is quick and friendly, and their specialty dishes are delicious! I recommend getting the fried chicken wings or ribs with beans and rice--you won't regret it!
Birroteca
Birroteca is a modern Italian restaurant in Baltimore's Hampden neighborhood, serving traditional Italian food in a casual atmosphere. It's owned by the same people who own Birroteca DC and Birroteca Halethorpe.
Birroteca has an open kitchen where you can watch your meal come together, plus plenty of seating at long tables or bar seats that face out onto the street. The menu includes pizzas (with toppings like prosciutto, mushrooms, figs, and arugula) as well as pasta made from scratch daily--you'll find dishes such as linguine with clams or rigatoni with pork sausage ragu on offer here too. The wine list includes over 200 bottles available by the glass or bottle; if beer's more your thing then there are 10 drafts available too!
La Cuchara
La Cuchara is a Spanish restaurant that serves authentic and delicious food. It's located in the heart of Hampden, so you know it's going to be good! The service is great and the waitstaff is friendly, too. The atmosphere at La Cuchara is warm and welcoming; you'll feel right at home here!
Dooby's
Dooby's is a great place to get a burger and fries. Their breakfast sandwiches are also delicious, as are their sandwiches. The atmosphere is nice and the service is good, so it's a place you can take your family or friends when they come into town.
Glen Oaks
Glen Oaks is a restaurant in Baltimore. They serve brunch on the weekends, and they're known for their crab cakes. Their outdoor patio is great for summertime dining, and they have a great brunch menu with inventive dishes like crab Benedict and kimchi pancakes.
New Northwood
Located in the Canton neighborhood, New Northwood is a great place to eat if you're looking for something new. The menu features American food with an international twist, including dishes like Korean fried chicken wings and Hawaiian poke.
The restaurant has received positive reviews from customers who appreciate its atmosphere and friendly service. It's also very affordable: most entrees cost less than $20!
Conclusion
I hope you've enjoyed this list of some of the best places to eat in Baltimore. If you have any favorites that I didn't mention, please leave them in the comments below!

Best Cuisine near Baltimore, MD neighborhoods
Introduction
Baltimore, Maryland has a lot of great restaurants, but some of the best are in Baltimore neighborhoods. This guide will help you find the best cuisines near Baltimore's different communities.
Tumblr media
Little Italy
Little Italy is a neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It is a part of the Canton neighborhood. The neighborhood was founded in 1890 when Italians began to arrive in large numbers. Today it has become an ethnic enclave with Italian restaurants and shops lining its streets including many pizzerias serving square-cut pizza with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese as well as other Italian foods such as pasta dishes (primarily served al dente).
The annual Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is celebrated here each year since 1887 on July 16th or 17th depending upon when the feast falls on any given year. The festival attracts large crowds from all over the country who come together to enjoy this event that features food, music, and entertainment by local performers that celebrate Italian heritage along with cultural traditions passed down through generations
Canton
Canton is a neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland. It is located north of Fells Point and south of Brewers Hill. Canton is known for its nightlife, restaurants, and bars. In fact, it's the second most walkable neighborhood in Baltimore! The area also has a large Italian American population but also has many other ethnic groups including Greek Americans and African Americans who live in this diverse community as well.
If you're looking for a fun place to grab dinner after work with friends or family members then I suggest you try one of these great cuisines within walking distance from Canton:
Inner Harbor
Inner Harbor is a district in the downtown area of Baltimore, Maryland. The city's Inner Harbor contains the world-famous Inner Harbor landmarks: National Aquarium, Port Discovery children's museum, Maryland Science Center, and the new Mobtown Ballroom. These attractions are all steps away from Fells Point which has become known as one of America’s favorite waterfront neighborhoods because of its unique dining options and thriving nightlife.
Pulaski Industrial Area
You'll find the Pulaski Industrial Area in southeast Baltimore. It's a historic industrial area that is home to many different businesses.
When you're looking for cuisine near Baltimore, Maryland neighborhoods, look no further than our neighborhood guides!
Takeaway:
The takeaway is a section where you summarize the main points of the article. It should be written in a way that it can be easily understood by a reader who hasn't read the whole article.
The takeaway should not be longer than one-third of your total post length (this does not include paragraphs or other sentences).
Conclusion
The best cuisine to try in Baltimore is Little Italy. There’s no better place to eat than somewhere that has been around since the 1920s and continues to grow with each passing decade. Canton and Inner Harbor also offer great options if you want something more modern or upscale but still have that classic feel like they do here in Little Italy where everything is homemade from scratch by people who love what they do!

The 5 Best Places To Visit In Bel Air, MD
Bel Air, Maryland is a quiet town in the heart of Baltimore County. There are many things to do in Bel Air, and these five destinations will help you experience them all:
Lochearn
If you're in the mood for some nature and being outdoors, Lochearn is a great place to visit. This small town is right off Route 1, making it easy to access by car or by bike. Lochearn has many hiking trails that meander through woods and fields, as well as lakes on both sides of Lochearn Road.
Tumblr media
For those who prefer eating over hiking, there are plenty of restaurants in Lochearn! You can find everything from Chinese food at The Golden Dragon Restaurant & Takeout to pizza at Papa John's Pizza. There are also plenty of hotels—the Comfort Suites hotel has nice rooms with kitchenettes that come with microwaves and refrigerators so you can make your own meals without having to leave your room!
Catonsville
Catonsville is a town in Baltimore County, Maryland. It is a suburb of Baltimore. The population was 27,788 at the 2010 census.
Tumblr media
Catonsville was named after the Caton Family, who migrated from England to Maryland in 1730 and purchased land there. The family also established an iron foundry and sawmill on their property during that time period; this operation would later become the famous Caton Ironworks (now owned by Olin Corporation). In 1871, Edward Lloyd V became mayor of Catonsville; he held this position for 41 years until his death in 1912.
Halethorpe
Halethorpe is a town in Baltimore County, Maryland, United States. The population was 12,721 at the 2010 census.
Tumblr media
Halethorpe has a rich history of manufacturing and industry that began with the founding of its first mill in 1794.
The population was 6,038 at the 2010 census. Halethorpe is located at the intersection of MD Route 146 and MD Route 724.
The George Washington Memorial Highway (part of U.S. Route 40) passes through Halethorpe on its way from Baltimore to Washington DC as one of two major highways (the other being Md-24) that connect Baltimore with Annapolis; both highways are part of US 40's original route through Maryland before it was truncated to Frederick in 1975.
Leakin park
Leakin Park is the largest municipal park in the city. The park offers a variety of activities, including hiking, biking and horseback riding. It's also home to many wildlife species like deer, coyote and foxes.
Tumblr media
However, despite its beauty and peacefulness Leakin Park is not meant for everyone. In fact there are several rules that need to be followed if you want to go safely:
Do not enter closed areas or restricted areas without permission from the Department of Recreation & Parks
Do not feed any animals in the park due to safety concerns about disease transmission and possible aggressive behavior from animals who have learned that humans may bring food sources into their territory
If you follow these rules when visiting Leakin Park then your visit will most likely be safe and enjoyable!
Bluegrass Mini Golf
Bluegrass Mini Golf is a fun place to visit. It is located in Bel Air, Maryland, and it's the perfect spot for anyone looking to have a good time with friends or family. The course has well-maintained landscaping and a good selection of food and drinks!
If you're looking for something that's fun but not too intense, this might be the place for you. It offers two different 18-hole courses: "The Bel Air Experience" and "Bluegrass Country Club." You'll find something here that fits your skill level, whether it's just learning how to play mini golf or something more challenging (like sinking putts on an actual green).
Visit these places in Bel Air, Maryland
Visit Lochearn
Visit Catonsville, Maryland
Visit Halethorpe, Maryland
Visit Leakin Park
If you're looking for a fun place to take your whole family on a day trip, Bluegrass Mini Golf is the perfect choice. It has 18 holes spread across three themed courses: Jurassic Park (with dinosaurs), Pirates Cove (with pirates) and Haunted Forest (containing ghosts).
So there you have it, the 5 best places to visit in Bel Air. Now that you know where to go and what to do, it’s time to plan your trip!

Oh Lords okay we're going to stick SPECIFICALLY to meals in my area (Baltimore) and recent meals because if i were to bring in places I've traveled and go back past years the list would go on forever lmao
In no particular order-
Cosima- for my birthday last year we went to our local favorite Sicilian restaurant and had mussels with spicy Italian sausage and broth, a pizza to share with scallops/bacon/chili oil, I had the duck breast with yam puree and cranberry confit, and they brought us a limoncello tiramisu for dessert. The drink parings were an Italian golden ale and an amaro Manhattan.
Lamb tajine - i made this myself in the traditional clay tajine my bf got me for Christmas. We take half a leg of lamb, dice and marinade it in olive oil and Ras Al hanut, then brown it in a skillet. Once that's browned you add yams, beets, onions, figs, carrots, about two cups of beef broth, and a cup of red wine. Let it simmer for ten minutes then carefully ladle it into the warmed tajine, which should have been brought to temp in the oven. It cooks at 300° for about three hours or so, occasionally adding water if it gets too dry. It's excellent with pita and saffron rice.
Petit Louis - after i got out of my recent cancer treatment and isolation we went for dinner to my favorite french place here in Baltimore. It's a classic bistro style place with dusty mirrors and red leather seats and wine bottles on the wall. Their best deal is the prix fixe lunch they do from 11-2pm but i can't get away with it all the time. We shared the Pâte de campagne, had a glass of wine each to pair with our main courses, and i got the roast lamb, which was some of the best I've had in a while. And yes i treated myself to a pot of chocolate mousse and a glass of Armagnac for dessert.
Neopol Smokery - this is the smokery/deli I've been talking about a lot recently they have a store front set up in an open market and visit a few farmers markets where you can get their prepared salmon filets, pies, grav lox, and more. The smokery in the market however makes some of the best sandwiches I've had and they also have smoked mussels, duck confit, salmon plates, all kind of daily rotating offerings for lunch and dinner and the staff are phenomenal, everything you want out of the old school deli you become a regular at.
Mason's Lobster Rolls- look. I do not live in New England. I know that. Our lobster will not compare. These are however the only lobster rolls i will eat outside of New England. They do them every still, CT/Bar Harbor/RI, and have a few soup options as well. It's pricey as good seafood usually is, but it's filling and delicious so i tend not to mind as a treat. Also fantastic crew running the show.
Honorable mentions
Wet City Brewing - great drinks, great brisket poutine, excellent vibes. Highly recommended for hanging out and getting some food after a long day though parking will be a headache.
Di Pasquale's - old school Italian deli and market that is so old school Al Capone once did their book keeping as a teenager. Yes it's actually true the owner has the old employee registers from his grandfather hung up on the back wall of the new store. The sandwiches are stunning, the arancini are authentic, the cannoli are worth getting two. Tied with Pastore's for my favorite Italian deli (the latter is closer to work).
Clark Burger - great burgers, great poutine, next to a vintage 1920s movie theater that routinely shows golden age classics alongside new films. My favorite local burger joint.

What Makes a Good Pizza Restaurant Near Me?
If you’re searching for a great pizza restaurant near me, you’ve probably already heard about some of the top restaurants. Paulie Gee’s, Bar Camillo’s, Koronet’s, and Mitcham Social are just some of the many great options, and they’re all highly recommended. In fact, they’ve even been featured on television! So, what makes a good pizza restaurant near me?
Mitcham Social
Looking for a Wood Fired Pizza? Then you’ve come to the right place! The Wood-fired Pizza Cafe is another great spot in Mitcham. Featuring an authentic wood-fired oven, this café serves pizzas and burgers with a twist. You can also enjoy coffee and other beverages at the bar. Seating is limited and reservations are required, but the wait will be worth it. The cafe is located on the second floor, and there is plenty of parking for all customers. You can also order a takeout or a delivery.
Paulie Gee’s
If you have never heard of Paulie Gee’s Pizza Restaurant, you’re missing out. Founded in Brooklyn in 2010, this renowned pizza joint is a family affair. The restaurant is named after the founder, who left his job in information technology to pursue his love of cooking. Before opening the first Paulie Gee’s, Giannone made a living serving friends and family in his home. Then, in 2010, he moved to Greenpoint, Brooklyn, where he opened the first Paulie Gee’s pizza restaurant. Since then, he has grown his business across the United States, with restaurants in Columbus, Chicago, and New Orleans.
Currently, there are seven Paulie Gee’s locations across the country. The franchise has branches in Columbus, New Orleans, Chicago, and Baltimore. The eighth restaurant is slated to open in Philadelphia, replacing Amis Trattoria. You can order pizza in the dining room or order it to go to work or the office. You can even order delivery, which makes it perfect for busy professionals who need to juggle two or more jobs at once.
Di Fara
If you’re looking for the best pizza in the city, you might be wondering if there’s a Di Fara pizza restaurant near me. This pizzeria, owned by Domenico DeMarco, opened in 1964 and is located on Avenue J in Midwood, Brooklyn. It has since been voted the “Best Pizza in the City” by several publications. This Brooklyn location has recently expanded to the Lower East Side and Williamsburg.
There are two locations of the Di Fara, both in Brooklyn. One is located in Brooklyn’s Midwood neighborhood, which is dominated by Eastern European immigrants and Orthodox Jews. Famous people from Midwood include Adam “MCA” Yauch and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. This neighborhood has largely avoided gentrification over the years. But, be prepared for crazy prices, and try to plan your meal accordingly.
Bar Camillo’s
If you’re looking for a delicious Italian restaurant close to where you live, consider Bar Camillo’s Pizza Restaurant near me. Whether you’re looking for authentic Roman pizza, or you’re looking for a more intimate setting, this spot is a great choice. Pinsa Cafe serves traditional Roman pizza, antipasti, and Negronis. While it might not be as large as the other Pizzeria Camillo’s in the area, this small eatery makes great Italian food.
Pinsas are Italian-style pizzas baked at a lower temperature than traditional Neapolitan dough. This allows the dough to rise to airy heights while ensuring a crispy bottom. Pinsas are the signature dish of Camillo’s, and they pair well with negronis or spritzes. Pinsas are only $10, but you can order a whole ten-inch pizza for under $20. The backyard is currently closed for construction, but you can visit when it opens for alfresco dining.
Koronet’s
Looking for a Koronet’s pizza restaurant near me? Then you’ve come to the right place! Located in Toronto, this Italian restaurant specializes in pizza and other Italian dishes. In addition to the pizza, you can also enjoy chicken, sausage, and pepperoni rolls, as well as lemonade and margaritas. Its friendly staff and cute decor make it a favorite with locals.
You may even notice that the pizza is large. Some people have even taken photos of the reheated slices to share with friends. However, this doesn’t mean the slices are low on flavor. While they may have a large serving size, they aren’t necessarily lacking in taste. While they might seem like an obvious choice, Koronet’s also has a good reputation for serving large, perfectly sized slices.
Paul’s Boutique
A pizza joint named for the Beastie Boys is opening up near you, and its new uptown location just opened in March. The “Paul’s Boutique pie” is topped with Katz’s pastrami, dijon bechamel, smoked red kraut, fontina cheese, and 1000 island dressing, and features an everything bagel crust. The crust, which is seeded, is also quite unique.
There are many places to get this New York-style pizza in the city, but one spot has become a local favorite: Paul’s Boutique, which serves delicious pizzeria classics. The pizza joint’s location near Katz’s deli on the Lower East Side inspired its founder Justin Bazdarich to make the pizzeria’s version of the famous New York deli a hit. Bazdarich had to pitch his creation to Katz’s, but they approved of it on the first try!
Mama’s Too
If you are looking for a great pizza restaurant near me, then look no further than a Mama’s Too. This counter-service, Pint-sized pizzeria is a favorite among locals and draws crowds in droves. It offers both classic and gourmet toppings for a delicious, homemade treat. Located near I-35, it is easy to find and will deliver great value for money.
You may have noticed that Mama’s Too is an unusual slice shop located on the Upper West Side. This pizza joint is known for its thick square-cut pizza that is the perfect vehicle for whipped ricotta and crispy pepperoni cups. Despite its edgy décor, you can still enjoy the traditional round-style pie and enjoy the experience of a slice of heaven. There’s no denying its delicious pizza.
