Signing up to be a surrogate can be a way to give a gift to another couple — but what happens if they change their mind?

A TikTok user named Heathyr signed up to be a surrogate in the middle of 2019 after she spent nearly five years wanting to get involved with the process.

"For me to be a parent, that is literally my favorite thing in the world," Heathyr says in a series of videos posted to her TikTok account. "And to be a surrogate, to give somebody else that feeling, like being a parent. That is why I wanted to be a surrogate."

Though it took a while for Heathyr to match with a couple, she eventually found one that she felt was "on the same page" as her. She says that from the beginning, she made it clear that the one thing that was very important to her was her stance on termination.

"I personally, this is my own opinion, you don't have to agree with me. I personally do not believe in termination unless there is something that will hurt the quality of life of the child," she shares. Heathyr says that while she is largely against abortions, she thinks it isn't fair to bring a child into the world if there is a life-threatening disease or injury.

The couple she matched with said they were Catholic and didn't believe in termination, so Heathyr says she figured they would get along well. The parents were hoping to have twins, a boy and a girl, which Heathyr says they told her repeatedly.

She proceeded with the surrogacy process, however, the first transfer didn't take. In February of 2020, they did another transfer and Heathyr successfully got pregnant — but things weren't exactly as the couple had hoped.

"When I went to get my ultrasound done, my first ultrasound, it only showed one sac, which just means that only one of the embryos attached," Heathyr explains. "So we didn't know if it was the boy or the girl but we knew that I was pregnant and the beta numbers were rising accordingly, which is the start of showing it's a healthy, successful pregnancy."

Soon after, Heathyr called the mom to tell her the exciting news, but the mom voiced some concerns, saying that she wasn't sure why both the sacs didn't stick. "This really confused me," Heathyr says in the video. "What do you mean? It's a baby. It's a healthy baby. I'm not understanding."

The couple wanted her to have another ultrasound to double-check that there was no twin hiding. After having another ultrasound, Heathyr confirmed that there was just one sac and that this time, there was a heartbeat.

By the time the next ultrasound came around, the COVID-19 pandemic had started to shut down parts of the world. At around seven or eight weeks pregnant, Heathyr got an email from her match manager at the surrogate agency who asked her to call her.

"She's like, 'I want to read you a letter from [the parents] because they are just very heartbroken and they don't know how to tell you this. So they wrote this letter and they want me to read it to you,' " Heathyr recalls.

"So she reads me this letter and the gist of it was, 'Heathyr we are so sorry, but you know, this virus is getting pretty bad and we just think it would be best for you to have a termination at this time. And we will try again when the virus is over with and we would be happy to work with you again.' "

The note came as a shock to Heathyr, who says she started to cry and thought the couple was messing with her. She decided to call her lawyer and ask if she had to go through with the termination, even though the baby was completely healthy.

She was told to set up a Zoom call with her lawyer and the parents, where the dad proceeded to yell at her for not respecting their wishes. "I'm just bawling and I ended up getting off the phone," she remembers.

"I talked to my lawyer and she pretty much just made it clear, 'Heathyr, I went over and over this contract and you do not have to have a termination. Obviously, that is your decision. They cannot sue you. In the contract, it states that you would only have a termination for a medical reason that would end in quality of life issues for the child.' "

She got a few other opinions from different lawyers, who all told her that the couple would not be able to sue her if she decided not to terminate the baby. While Heathyr notes that things could've changed if she'd contracted COVID-19, she never got the virus and the baby was perfectly healthy.

In May, Heathyr got a call from her OB, who told her that the intended dad was sending her doctor emails every day about different COVID-19 cases. "He was sending her certified mail to the office about the emails. They were pretty much just printed out. And he was calling the office every day," she says.

When the time came to give birth, Heathyr says the couple flew out to her home state of Ohio to pick up their baby. Although the intended mom had expressed wanting to be in the delivery room, she ended up changing her mind and decided to stay in the waiting room.

After Heathyr delivered the baby boy, she says that the parents completely changed their tune. "The parents kept bringing him into my room. I would be wheeled over to him in their room. I got to hold him and get pictures with him. They each wrote me cards thanking me for all I did and how I kept their baby safe."

"And how they'd never forget me and they just appreciate what I've done for them, I've completed their family. You wouldn't have thought those last 9½, 10 months happened because it was just surreal."

At the end of the day, Heathyr was happy that the parents seemed to be excited when they met their son.

"I just know I saw the way they looked at him and the mom was just so happy and crying," she shares. "And that's what I wanted. You can't force somebody to want a baby, but the whole journey I was so scared. And I just knew when I saw them that they are happy."

Twins of Twins (Beel x MC x Belphie)

hey yoooo. i got inspired from a satan(/levi) fic on ao3, and i’ve been wanting to write it down soooo, here it is. the part that i got inspo from is when MC was talking with satan (before and after canoodling, hehe) about pregnancy, and how dangerous it can be to conceive demon babies, even for female demons. so i kinda put my own take on what could happen. 

p.s., this piece is no way related to the work that it’s inspired from. this is my take on the idea of a demon/human pregnancy. also, this fic is part of one of my favorite series on ao3, and it’s got all the demon bros (belphie is not a love interest, however, but is included in the series), and diavolo and barb! it’s got romance, smut, drama, angst, and polyamorous relationships (consensual, ofc). honestly, it’s perfect. okay, imma stop talking now.

Being bedridden was not fun.

Not that it was by choice, though. The two little beings in my belly were the main cause of my bedridden state. I was huge by human standards, at five months. I looked more like I was almost at full term, with twins. Lucifer had told me that demon females usually only carry for five to six months, but with the babies being half-human, they weren’t really sure on how long I would be carrying. Although, it’s very possible that I would be delivering soon.

Lucifer lightly knocked on my door, and called my name. “MC, it’s getting late, breakfast is getting cold... whatever’s left of it, anyway.”

I woke up very slowly, with the sudden urge to throw up. I could feel the acidic bile rising up my throat as I ran to my bathroom. Lucifer must have heard my retching, and announced that he was coming in my room. He came into my bathroom and immediately knelt to my side, rubbing my back in hopes to comfort me.

“Feeling better?” he asked, as I finally stopped heaving.

“Yeah, it just came out of nowhere,” I said, wondering if I caught a stomach bug. “Do you mind getting me a glass of water, please? There should a cup in the towel cabinet, from the tap is fine,” I ask him, still kneeling in front of the toilet, and spat out whatever remnants were left.

“Of course, darling,” he says, standing up. Just as he opened the cabinet door, I saw a glimpse of a box of tampons, and my stomach dropped again. Not enough to puke again, however.

“Here you go,” Lucifer turns to hand me the glass of water, and notices the complexed look on my face. “What’s wrong, do you need to throw up again?”

“I need my phone,” I say, as I stand up. I kind of wobbled on the spot, but Lucifer reached out to steady me with his free hand. “Thanks.”

I grab the glass and down it as fast as I could (at a reasonable pace, of course), and stepped out of my bathroom to look for my phone. It was usually where I left it, on the nightstand that was next to my side of the bed. I open my phone and check the calendar, trying to count the days of my last period.

Oh, shit.

I turn to Lucifer, with a worried look on my face.

“Lucifer... I’m late.” I whisper.

Satan kept check on my well-being, making sure that he was following everything to the book on human pregnancy (and demon pregnancy), and then some. He and Lucifer had educated me early on how a demon pregnancy usually progresses. Satan also had to do further research on any possible demon/human reproductions that might have happened in the past. He found a few actual sources, but they weren’t very legible, nor were they pretty to read about, once deciphered.

Then he had to do more research on the female anatomy, and all the little (and major) changes my body will go through, and compared it with the demon female anatomy. “I need to do as much research as possible, MC. If I miss anything, it could be a matter of life or death for you, and none of us want that.” Awww... and yikes.

The only significant differences that he was able to find out about was the pain tolerance experienced during birth, the length of the pregnancy, and the cravings. I still got human food cravings, thank God (or is it Diavolo?). But I also got serious cravings for raw meat. Like, actual straight from the source, meat. It was challenging, because we had to determine what kind of raw meat that I (or the babies, in this case) was actually craving for. Turned out to be a type of mammal in the Devildom, much to my dismay. But Beel was able to provide it for me, bless his heart.

Belphie helps him in cutting up the mammal, and he’s always complaining to me about how much work it is to butcher up a 2,000-pound mammal. Although, Beel mentions to me (without letting Belphie know) that Belphie does the task with a smile and a hum. Beel asked him once if he enjoyed doing this, and Belphie simply replied, “As long as the babies are healthy and she’s happy, then I’m happy.” It warmed my heart to hear Beel slip that piece of information with me.

Lucifer had called both of his younger twin brothers into his study a day later after the incident. He had to make an impromptu trip to the human world to pick up a few pregnancy tests. I asked him if there were any in the Devildom, to which he replied, “Even if there were, I wouldn’t want anyone to see me purchasing them. It could tarnish Lord Diavolo’s reputation and his plan for restoring bonds over the realms.” Of course, he would say that, damn him (again).

 His gaze was fixated on the couch I sat on, an angry and contemplative expression on his face. He wasn’t glaring at me, though. No, it seemed as if he was trying to put holes on the empty spots on the couch, spots that will soon be occupied by two certain individuals.

There was a knock on the door. “Come in,” Lucifer says, in an ominous tone.

Beelzebub was the first to enter, with Belphegor dragging along behind him.

“MC, what are you doing here?” Beel asked with a smile, and sat on my right side. Belphie plopped himself on the available side on the couch, and kissed my cheek. “Hey,” was all he said.

“Hi,” I replied timidly, to which Belphegor and Beel noticed right away, that something was wrong.

Belphie looked at my face for a while, to which I ignored to the best of my abilities. He fixed his gaze on Lucifer when I wouldn’t look him in the eyes. “What the hell is happening?” he asked Lucifer, with a tone that clearly said to not beat around the bush.

Lucifer stared straight back at Belphegor. “She’s pregnant.”

Lord Diavolo and Barbatos had found out about it, naturally. Anything that happens in the Devildom never seems to slip past them. And boy, were they not impressed. A meeting was scheduled to be held at the Prince’s castle A.S.A.P., in regards to how to proceed with the pregnancy. The twins, Lucifer and I were summoned for this meeting.

“I ought to punish them for doing this to MC, Lucifer. You know how dangerous it is to rear demon children,” Diavolo said loud and clear, and glared at the twins with a disappointed look on his face. Belphie and Beel both kept their eyes on the table they were sitting in front of, both of them expressing their guilt for what they’ve done.

I raised my hand, “Excuse me, but just how dangerous is it?” I asked, feeling slightly stupid.

Diavolo sighed heavily, and rubbed his eyes in a frustrated manner.

“Rearing demon children is a very risky business, even for demon females. Because of the raw nature of their infancy, it is a danger that is considered fervently, first and foremost,” Barbatos explains in a cold tone. “As strong as we are as demons, the unpredictability of an infant demon could be disastrous for the mother, if not properly planned for.”

A chill went down my spine. Not properly planned for? What the hell does he mean by that?

“You say that it’s dangerous for even demon females... what about human females?” I ask, although I had an idea, but I didn’t like it.

Barbatos is quiet, gazing at me with a pitied look. I hated it.

“There have been very few attempts, before Diavolo’s reign, on demon and human reproduction... they never ended well. For the human involved, anyway. They always died.”

I took in a shuddering breath, and looked down at my stomach. Could this being really kill me, unintentionally?

It's commonly believed that witches created the original werewolf. For those who do believe in this origin story, they know that the first witch to create the first werewolf wasn't seeking to create a loyal companion such as man's best friend. The werewolf had been made to punish a human; cursed to live with a condition that painfully transforms them into a wild, bloodthirsty beast on a full moon that takes the appearance, traits, and abilities of a wolf. Not all werewolves were a result of a witch’s hex. Instead, some were born with the curse, or survived the bite of a werewolf. Regardless of how they came to be, every werewolf experiences excruciating pain every time they shift, regardless whether or not it is on the full moon or not.  

{ appearance }

Their human forms come in all shapes and sizes, while their wolf forms are known for having strictly yellow eyes and weigh anywhere between 800 to 1,000 pounds. At the shoulder, they can range anywhere between 4'5'' to 5'5'' in height. Their appearance looks similar to the Northwestern wolf, with pelt colours coming in shades of white, grey, black, tan, and red. Aside from their large size and dense muscle mass, werewolves are incredibly fast, strong, and resilient.   Werewolves have a pack mentality and a strong desire to be with their own kind. They do not work on an ���alpha, beta, and omega’ system as some might assume, but instead have a family dynamic, even when packs are made up of unrelated members, with typically one or two wolves taking the parental roles or one member becoming the patriarch/matriarch while others make up other family members within the pack. Decisions within the pack are not typically decided by one member, but are usually made collectively in the group.

{ abilities }

ABILITY MIMICRY: while in their canine forms, werewolves adopt their wolf forms abilities as well, such as: strengths, enhanced senses, and abilities to navigate in darkness. Their sense of smell is a hundred times stronger than a humans while in their canine forms, allowing them to pick up scents from a couple of kilometers away with ease. in their canine forms, werewolves are the strongest and fastest species.   GROUP TELEPATHY: werewolves are able to communicate telepathically to one another while in their canine forms as well as granting them the ability to share coherent thoughts and imagery with one another through a mental link.      MID-FORM:

with practice, some werewolves are able to perform what is known as a ‘midshift’, which allows them to shift just partially in order to gain the abilities of their canine shift, such has strength, smell, sight, etc. While in midform, their human features will take on wolf-like qualities, such as their teeth will sharpen and enlarge, their hands will turn into claws, and so on. Their midform is not as painful as a full transformation, but still uncomfortable. They are able to revert back into their human forms quickly if needed.      ENHANCED SPEED & STRENGTH: Even while in human form, werewolves are strong, fast, and very durable, making them difficult to push around unless you know what you’re doing. 

REGENATIVE DURABILITY: 

Alongside vampires, werewolves have the fastest healing rate of all supernatural creatures. Regardless of how severe an injury is, werewolves will always recover from them at an incredibly fast rate, rarely leaving scar tissue behind. of course, there are some injuries too critical to heal, but for the most part they are resilient creatures. 

{ weaknesses }

FULL MOON: 

Regardless of the weather, werewolves must shift during the full moon. The shifting process is extremely painful and not instant, though werewolves who are born one or have been one for many years seem to transform quicker in comparison to those who are newly turned/hexed.

Werewolves also find that the week that works up towards the full moon is an uncomfortable time; their tempers tend to flare, they find themselves more anxious, more irritable, and sometimes more promiscuous. Werewolves cannot avoid shifting under the full moon. Resisting to shift will have adverse effects on their health and will lead to death if they do not succumb to the change. It’s best to avoid a werewolf under a full moon as they are hostile and often on the hunt; craving to satisfy an insatiable hunger. they cannot be reasoned with during the full moon and can attack those they care about without having any recollection of it the next day. note: female werewolves can resist the urge to shift under the full moon when pregnant, but it is still extremely difficult and often leaves them ill and weak. many seek out aid from witches in order to make the night a little easier during the full moon.     SILVER: werewolves have a severe allergy to silver, causing their skin to blister and burn if they come into contact with it. consuming anything with silver will immediately make them fall ill and can even lead to death. wounds and illnesses caused by silver have a slower healing rate time compared to other injuries.  

OTHER WEREWOLVES:

A bite or scratch from another werewolf tends to take longer to heal than any other wound inflicted on a werewolf.  

{ MISC. INFORMATION }

MATURITY:

Those that are born werewolves will have their first shift around the ages of 14-18. If they have a pack during this time, they are usually mentored through their first shift; given lots of support and information on what their first transformation might feel like and what to expect afterwards. 

CREATION:

Only humans can be turned into werewolves. Werewolves can be created by being bitten, or hexed. Those who are hexed are a result of crossing with a powerful witch (often a necromancer) who placed the curse on them. The curse is associated with ancient magic that most witches have forgotten, thus it's rare. The curse can never be reversed and they will have their first transformation under the upcoming full moon. Those who are bitten are usually a result of being attacked by one werewolf or more, typically on the full moon while they are in their frenzied hunting state of mind.

They only become infected with the curse if the werewolf who has bitten them are in their canine form. Biting them in their human or mid-shift form does nothing other than damage. Once they are bitten, their body will begin to undergo a change that builds up until the next full moon. If they are maimed badly during the attack and survive, their body will immediately begin to heal itself rapidly. However, they will begin to feel symptoms similar to a venomous bite such as pain around the bite(s), swelling, muscle cramping, headaches, nausea and vomiting, difficulty breathing, blistering around the wound(s), etc.

These side effects will continue to worsen up until their first transformation. Many people do not survive the transformation and often die from the pain and side effects. those that do survive their transformation will find that their first shift under the full moon they do not recall who they are and act on their animal instincts. they will not recognize those who are close to them and cannot understand speech, thus it is recommended for others to stay away from them otherwise they risk being attacked and possibly killed. Being born a werewolf is rare as carrying a child to term for werewolves is difficult. When a pregnant werewolf shifts, they will miscarry their offspring regardless how far along they are. In order to carry a child to term, the mother must resist shifting under the full moon in order to avoid miscarriage. This can be extremely stressful on the body and many mothers are unable to resist the urge to shift. Many born-werewolves see their birth as a sign of strength in their bloodlines and some even consider themselves superior to those who were hexed or bitten.     LIFESPAN: It is believed that the first werewolf was hexed by a witch who damned them into turning into a beast for as long as she lived. All werewolves whether bitten, born, or hexed have a lifespan of around a 200 years, matching the lifespan of the average witch.     REPRODUCTION: Werewolves can reproduce with any creature with the exception of vampires. Their pregnancies usually last 9 months. It is more common for female werewolves to carry twins in comparison to humans.      THE PULL: Sometimes, werewolves can experience a phenomena referred to as 'the pull', which is when a werewolf forms a psychic link with another creature. this connection is often described as a werewolf feeling as though they are being 'called' to that person. despite how close or estranged they are to this person, they are drawn to them for explainable reasons that make them feel compelled to be with them, protect them, and support them in life. the energy around this person is said to be different than anyone else's, making it nearly impossible for a werewolf to ignore which is often why it's referred to as 'the pull'.

initially when the connection is made, it's merely feeling what is described above, but quickly the connection between the two grows and develops, granting the werewolf and the person they are connected to some abilities. this psychic connect includes being able to sort of 'step into' the other person's body in a sense where they can briefly feel, see, and experience what the other person is seeing. As well, werewolves can 'visit' their connection, which allows them to stand beside the other person as though they were there in person. However, it is merely a psychic connection, and thus no one other than the two can see and speak with one another while this is happening. Additionally, the pair are able to exchange knowledge and skills with one another briefly while they are visiting or 'stepping into' one another's bodies including languages, memories, and physical abilities such as dancing and fighting. these abilities are usually triggered by something causing the other person's emotions to peak regardless whether it's fear, anger, sadness, happiness, etc etc... neither of them can summon the other unless these two are both werewolves who have been 'pulled' together. werewolves always have a stronger connection than one made between a werewolf and another species, allowing them to use these abilities whenever rather than it spontaneously happening via emotions. werewolves can experience 'the pull' with humans, other werewolves, sirens, faeries, vampires, and witches. how 'the pull' occurs is still debated among werewolves as it can happen spontaneously between strangers, friends, siblings, lovers, and any other kind of relationship. it's said that a werewolf can only be connected to one person, but there have been reported incidences where a werewolf feels 'the pull' between two people (note: members can purchase 'the pull pass' in the point shop if they'd like to! otherwise we will not accept characters who are bonded with two people). like a familiar's connection to a witch, if one of the two people within 'the pull' die, they will experience an indescribable pain that sometimes can even result in death and will often feel as though they are missing a part of themselves afterwards.      

{ THE SILVERSIDE PACK }

they're aware of the irony of having one of their greatest weaknesses in their name, but don't assume you can take the pack lightly because of it.<P>

while their history may not be as long and intricate as the morrison nest or the blackwood coven, the silverside pack has certainly made an impression on the town that is distinct from the other groups.

for the longest time, lycanthropy was considered a 'disease' of sorts among the supernatural community. werewolves were treated with disdain; viewed as 'lesser' than other groups and a danger to themselves and others because of their compulsion to transform under the full moon. as a result, werewolves were faced with many restrictions in dismal that treated them like second class citizens. in the past 40 years, the pack have made huge accomplishments to educate the other communities and demand for equal rights. as a result of the scrutiny they faced, the pack have learned to rely on their own kind and seldom seek help from others. fiercely independent, the pack doesn't allow the other species to interfere with pack business and govern themselves. while they abide by the town's rules, the pack also deals with their own kind privately, keeping law enforcement out when one of them finds themselves in trouble. additionally, they even have their own infirmary located in prairiewood to allow their kind to heal without any involvement of the other groups. they're extremely devoted to each other and have an heavy emphasis on being a pack with a strong front.

however some would argue their beliefs and practices can be 'barbaric' at times, especially their initiation for new members. all new members are required to pass what is known as the 'no omegas left' test. it's controversial within the pack and labeled as out of date, but the idea is at midnight, all members of the pack including the new comers shift into their canine forms. the new recruit is given a head start to run through the forests located in prairiewood and the rest of pack follows shortly after. pack members then proceed to attack the recruit as they attempt to make it out of the forest. they have to fight tooth and nail to get through the others, resisting defeat and escaping death. if they make it out, they're considered part of the pack. those who perish or call it quits during the test are rejected from the pack and labeled an 'omega'.

The bottom line: If you're thinking about getting pregnant, be a teetotaler and limit your daily java fix to 200 mg of caffeine per day. (That's about one to two cups or 12 ounces of coffee.)
