#Rewatched RoTT

So. I rewatched RoTT yesterday evening.
I know. How on earth did I cope with that? Why would I torture myself like that? It was because the first time I watched it I was purely feeling emotions of betrayal disappointment and anger. So I'm going to give a quick summary of points in the movie, both bad and good, and debunk common issues fans have with that ending. (Surprisingly it was not as bad as I remembered. Strickler sounded a little croaky but not so much and his design was in need of improving on his hair and eyes, but not much else.)
The kill count was insane. Me and my sister estimated that thousands of people, perhaps more, died. And Archie and Charlemagne are pretty much dead. The whole bridge collapsed.
Positives
Animation was mostly perfect. The fight scenes were beautiful. The expressions were subtle and more realistic.
Voice acting was faultless almost.
It DID have good character interactions, as well as emotional scenes. And the music was pretty amazing too.
Negatives
The fight scenes were monotonous after a while. There were too many and I felt a emotional disconnect after a while. It was a little boring compared to the series.
The only death they put significance on was Toby’s. The others were completely brushed over. And of course largely unnecessary. (writers were cruel to poor Strickler especially).
The script let it down. Some lines were good. But not many.
Okay. Onto the common complaints. Bare in mind I don't like RoTT, and do not consider it Canon.
Jim's decision was selfish. He should have dealt with his grief and not used the kronosphere.
No. It was the opposite. It was selfless. Jim loved Toby like a brother. He loved Strickler like a dad. Douxie lost the only remaining people in his life he loved literally. Nomura was a close friend. Sacrifice comes in different forms. Yes the deaths were stupid. But it showed what a strong drive love is. If it was always meant to be, it will be. Jim made a decision collectively, it was not his decision only. Blinky, Aja, so many agreed it was the correct decision. To save their loved ones.
Jim should not have given the amulet to Toby. Unbecoming showed what would happen if Jim wasn't the Trollhunter.
It was foreshadowed a LOT in Trollhunters. I'm in the middle of rewatching, and twice Toby has been first mistaken as the Trollhunter then called for the glory of Merlin. Toby was the one with the most compassion. He was the one who spared Chomsky he was the only one who called Angor’s name when he died the second time. And Jim is right there. He knows the future, he will not leave Toby. Unbecoming was a vision from Merlin. One that was pretty manipulating. Plus, Draal was the one who shouldn't be chosen.
RoTT makes the other series pointless. It undoes everything.
This is what I'm most pissed about. My mum said it would have made way more sense if the movie events happened before the series, so it didn't feel as much like a gut punch. But I've got a way around this. When Jim tells Strickler he'd like to introduce him to his mom, his expression goes from surprise to a warm smile. That's a weird reaction. It suggests Strickler might have an echo of remembrance. Which is how I think retrieving memories is an almost certain possibility. It happens with Claire too. Even Toby’s reaction to the amulet comes across as glee rather than surprise. This is the dude who thought it was a gaudy bauble in Trollhunters and dismissed it pretty quickly.
So yeah. I'm done. It was bad but not world ending. Please don't kill me. I was looking at it with zero emotion, pure logic. I still don't believe it's Canon. Not true to the characters. There's no feeling of timelessness I get with rewatching Trollhunters, no awe. It was a meh movie that had the potential to be great but fell flat on its face.

Toby Domzalski is a precious gem, a treasure, but he is not the holder of the amulet. His instinct when left alone in a cop car for five minutes was to panic and steal it. I don’t even need another example.

what httyd thw? there’s no httyd thw /sarcasm
i’ve blocked everything post thw out of my mind, they don’t exist to me
Yeah... thw? So glad it was just an odd phenomenon of a widespread hallucination every httyd fan collectively experienced in 2019.. I don't know what I'd do if it was real....

i’m actually really nervous about twow bc i feel like every series i made my whole personality from the ages of 10-17 ended really badly EXCEPT probably farscape and ummmm well…the disney series’ aksksj hsm3 and descendants 3 written by children’s media icon and genuinely amazing director, screenwriter, & choreographer kenny ortega both had really solid endings that fit the characters & themes & also there wasn’t a noticeable decrease in quality of writing. is it unserious to compare grrm to cassie clare, rick riordan, megan whalen turner, or the hacks who wrote once upon a time? absolutely. am i gonna stress regardless? also yes.

Damn, i’ve rewatched the whole Tales of Arcadia series, and Wizards introduced so many plot holes.....
Let's not even get started on how screwy the overarching timeline is, because I will lose it. Seriously, Draal and Kanjigar were both alive and adults when Deya became trollhunter? It makes no sense.
They fucked the canon by having Deya be the first trollhunter since it's stated that Gunmar has killed trollhunters before. Not only did they state he had killed trollhunters before, Kanjigar also told Jim in the void that Daylight had fought Gunmar many times and never killed him. Also the stone body of Deya is shown and is completely different than her design in Wizards bruh....
The battle of Killahead was only good trolls vs Gunmar and his gumm-gumms, with Merlin and Morgana fighting off to the side. In Wizards they made the same battle Arthur and his army vs Gunmar with the good trolls joining later, and Merlin and Douxie fighting Morgana in a completely different location.
You can't claim that it's because they changed the past, because what was shown in Trollhunters IS ALREADY THE PAST lol
Deya should've been the trollhunter that came before Kanjigar so the timeline made a bit more sense. Plus it adds to why Draal wanted to be the trollhunter so badly. He was there when Gunmar was first stopped and so when his father became the next trollhunter he saw it as his destiny to live up to the one who banished Gunmar and his father.
Trollhunters is stronger as a standalone piece of fiction. It's not that I hate 3Below or Wizards (I do hate ROTT, but that's another story), but the other two series rushes their stories so much that they don't flow nearly as well. My favorite thing about Trollhunters is the relationships, villains and character development, which, in my opinion, are pretty lukewarm in all the other stories.
The three seasons of Trollhunters are perfect! Especially the first season.

I can't even begin to describe how much this show and it's characters (especially Jim), and all the wonderful people and fans connected to it, mean to me. I came late to the fandom, but fell in love 5 minutes into the first episode. No series on earth has ever brought me such joy, and heartache. It really did save me from a dark place, and then ROTT put me right back. I rewatch Trollhunters constantly and yeah, some things make me horribly sad on top of the happy (Jim & Blinky, Jim & Claire) because we will never truly know if Jim gets them back, or how it all ends. But I will always carry this show in my heart and hope for more, and I will never stop loving it, even if this is all we ever have.
Happy 6 year anniversary Trollhunters and ToA. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Decided to practice my paint style technique and go straight for coloring. I finished rewatching Trollhunters this weekend (I'm choosing to ignore RotT), and it's been a few years since I've properly drawn a Jim! I'm super proud of this one ^_^

Hey, there the same newbie in the Fandom again
I rewatched the show again with my brother and started noticing things I didn't in the first. But for today, only one ask shall I send
Do you think Walter has some guilt feelings about Jim transformation? I mean, the boy wasn't listening to Merlyn till he said similar reasons to the one Strickler said in training and especially in bad coffee, which we saw in it that Jim still cared about Walter opinion or something? (TBH, I like the episode, but half of it was just trash . What do you mean by just "protect her?" he cares for Jim and forbids Bular from attacking him way before starting to start dating Barbara)
Wow, so much rambling sorry anyway back to the guilty feelings because I think he kinda saw himself the reason? He clearly knew or guessed what the potion would do because of his reaction to it
And the "young Atlas you are not alone"
It strikes me as if he realized what he said earlier about Jim not being able to defeat Gunmar by his strength alone (so he got the potion) and his speech was more of hopeless attempt to reach Jim to not accepting the fact he can't win alone but they could find another way together
Oh God, I write all of that, so sorry, but you're the only trollhunters (Strickler) fan I know would be able to understand me
First off, this is a fantastic ask! And it doesn't matter how many times I rewatch Trollhunters, I still find new things. It's probably why I rewatch so much.
I don't think Walt is guilty about Jim's transformation to half-troll. He wanted Jim to survive Gunmar. Because any humanity shown to Gunmar would end with Jim dead. Strickler never said Jim needed to be more than human, not like Merlin did. Strickler was terrified Jim would die, which was why the training in season 3 was so tough. Strickler was angry and scared when he realised what Merlin had done.
Yeah, Jim DOES care about Walt's opinion on him, and I think the same can be said of Walt.
Bad coffee is a bad episode for Strickler and Jim's relationship lol. Right from the start of Trollhunters it was JIM who instilled in Strickler the seeds of his eventual redemption. And RoTT (terrible as it was overall) proved that once and for all. Strickler is willing to DIE for Jim. He didn't die for Barbara. And that's why Jim sets him up with Barbara at the end of the movie.
The whole 'I didn't return to train you, I returned to protect her' can't be taken seriously. Since you know, Strickler was high on gravesand. Nothing he says is particularly nice while on gravesand. None of the teachers are lol. And it was said also because Strickler wanted Jim to kill him. To finish the fight. And needed to say something to wind him up. What better then using his mom? Since obviously he returned for Jim's sake, knowing Barbara would want nothing to do with him at the time. And yes, maybe he returned to train Jim also because it would indirectly protect Barbara, but still. Blatent lie. If that was true, Jim would be dead.

I'm not sure if anyone has watched 'Troll Hunters: Tales of Arcadia' but I'm rewatching it for nostalgia's sake. My cat is watching it with me and loves Buular. When Buular died, Pippin, the cat, screamed and when Angor Rott was introduced he spazzed out then sat down as if nothing happened.
My cat likes villains and idk why.

the first reset. everything was gonna be better. you’d fix all your mistakes and account for the mistakes of others. it would be all right after this.
jim was certain this time he could do it all. his muscles may not have the memories but his brain did. his body would follow soon enough. he’d be the ultimate human trollhunter. one who didn’t have to be taught how to fight or how to navigate troll culture. he could protect everyone he loved that much better. he was ready.
you, as mentioned before, were not.
you were terribly confused as to why you remembered everything. woke up in your lonely little bed in your old apartment like it was all a dream.
for agonizing moment, you let yourself believe that. sure, it would’ve been quite the convoluted dream, and the most vivid thing you’d ever imagined, but it could’ve been a dream.
you stared up at the ceiling, stuck in the moment. clutching the blanket to your chest. finding shapes in the popcorn. you had to get up. you had to go to work. but you couldn’t move.
if it was indeed a dream, then no one existed. or at least, your dream’s version of them. you knew their appearances, had seen everyone around town once or twice. so they existed. but your friends wouldn’t exist. as long as you lied there in your cozy bed bathed in fresh morning sunbeams, you wouldn’t forget any of them.
you had to do something.
your eyes drifted to a journal with a gold leaved trim in the bookcase you were using as a night table. one of those you buy bc it’s so pretty but when you bring it home you just add it to the growing stack of never-used journals. and there was a blue ballpoint pen conveniently lying on the floor.
you wrote it all down, every detail to the best of your memory. barbara’s talented brushstrokes, douxie’s gentle finger-picking melodies, jim’s opinions on how to cook lamb, douxie’s perpetually-tired but sparkling hazel eyes, claire’s curiosity about the magical world, douxie’s snark in the face of danger, nari’s careful plant cultivation, douxie’s contagious laughter—
okay so maybe you missed doux a lot already. only a few hours apart, but it already hurt.
it was worse actually, with the sick feeling that came with the assumption that you had just dreamt up the last few years of your life. not only was everyone gone, but you made it up as well. so desperate for connection that your own brain would cook up a story. make you some people to love.
a story with many many details. which was suspicious. and a lot of it didn’t make sense, but you supposed that was just dream logic at work.
that deep stabbing loneliness returned to you like a lover, ironically. so familiar, you didn’t know why you felt like it had ever left you. it was there all along, wasn’t it? so peculiar a feeling.
you looked around the apartment. you hadn’t been here in years, and everything was right where you left it. or maybe it was that you never moved it in the first place.
you glanced at the date on the calendar once again. something about it mocked you.
and you developed the inexplicable desire to prove it all just a fantasy.
you pulled a hoodie on and slipped on some shoes at your door, heading towards the beginning of it all. the bridge.
this would be good. you could go see that there was nothing there and calm down this nagging fear. this terrible deja vu. and move on.
except. there kanjigar lay, pile of gravel he was.
you gawked at the rubble. no amulet. jim had already passed through. you ignored the buzzing coming from your back pocket in favor of high-tailing it to the local public highschool.
you got about halfway there before you realized they would definitely not let you in. this is america. you can’t just do that these days.
you leaned against a nearby tree to regain your bearings. and decide what or where would be your next move. you couldn’t approach jim until he was out of school. you took a moment to hope he was smart enough to hide from the resident changelings a little better this time around.
unfortunately, you had a whole day to kill until the brat got out of school, and a lot of your usual haunts were off-limits. no horngazzle to get into trollmarket, no key to douxie’s apartment, and no key to the lakes’ house. barb probably wouldn’t appreciate a stranger knocking on her door and asking to have coffee with her (hard to catch up when she doesn’t fucking know you). you did have two options available, however. douxie’s bookshop and stuart’s electronics.
wasn’t even a competition. sorry stu. doux comes first.
the bookshop opened at 9:00. you may have just hung around the alley outside until douxie woke up. and. well. if some pebbles decided to magically hit his window of their own accord and speed up that waking process, that was their prerogative.
after doux flipped the sign, you waited exactly 32 seconds before charging in there. patience was never your strong suit, was it?
however, this gave you 0 seconds to think about what came next. fuck. uh.
it’s not like you can just open with “hi. i may or may not be in a time loop. i love you.”
do you love him? do you know him? would he think you’re crazy? is this guy even a wizard? or did you make all that up?
“…is there anything i can help you with?”
fuck. okay. so you’ve just been standing here in the middle of the bookstore, looking lost af.
“uh yeah i just—“
“looking for a book?”
okay there’s the shovel, “yeah! I— a book.”
you rubbed the back of your neck in embarrassment. off to a great start here.
“…” douxie was looking at you expectantly.
“uh,”
“the title?” he offered, “do you have the title?”
“OH,” you said a little too loudly, “the title. of course.”
the awkward silence was deafening, “so,” he furrowed his brows, “what is it?”
“yes! um…” you racked your brain for literally any book title that had ever existed. unfortunately, your brain tossed all that out along with every other piece of information you had once you stepped through those bookshop doors. “ssshh- GOBLINS!”
“goblins?”
“yeah, yeah, uh. goblins: a guide to infestation. that’s what i’m looking for.”
doux shifted on his feet, “okay. i think i have that,, in the back.”
you took this moment by yourself to mute your phone’s notifications. work wasn’t happy. you didn’t remember much about the job you were working like, two years ago, but you were sure they could suck it.
as douxie came back around and handed you the worn copy of the goblin-killing manual, you realized that this was definitely taken off his own personal shelf. because of course it was, it was a trollish book. whoopsie.
“so, you…” he let his hands linger on the book longer than necessary as he placed it in your hands, “got an infestation?”
you darted your eyes from his to the book, “uh, not at the moment. just. can’t hurt to be prepared i guess.”
you awkwardly chuckled.
“of course. so, uh, this one can only be a loan, if you can understand.”
“i do.”
“eh, what’s say a week?”
“sure.”
doux crossed to the door in front of you. he opened it, motioning his hand to gesture you out it.
“well, i’ll see you then.”
you took the cue, “yeah. you too!”
and after you walked out and down the street a ways, you remembered that you WERE SUPPOSED TO STAY THERE DUMBASS.
but it’s not like you can just walk back in there now.
ah. social convention has trapped you once again. maybe there’s something good at the coffee shop.

(from this trollhunters meme; thank you for the ask!)
2.) fave protagonist?
oh, jim. easy. i know i'm preaching to the choir here but rott (and wizards, tbh) did my boy so fucking dirty. the kid who tried to reach out to fucking bular simply would not taunt an enemy he had powerless before him. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
6.) favorite episode from trollhunters?
oh my god, it's been so long…! fuck, i really am over-due for a trollhunters rewatch, haha. on my very cursory scroll through the episode list, i'd have to say the s2 finale, "in the hall of the gumm-gumm king." the janus order hq…!! usurna's horrible troll politics. gunmar being SCARY. claire pulling her big damn heroes!! steve and eli being genuinely charming… strickler and nomura coming back to help jim!! morgana possession!! GOD.
25.) unpopular opinion?
oh lord. has the fandom cooled off enough to put this out there yet? well, alright.
y'know...i'm not a fan of troll jim. i don't quite want to say i'm glad he got turned back in wizards, but mainly because the way it happened doesn't…actually make sense; but in the grand toa rewrite i'm continually idly entertaining, i think it would still happen. me @ merlin, continually:
