Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS Blu-Ray: Episode 5
Google Drive ONLY (for now)
Support us on ko-fi
Blu-Ray episodes will come out one at a time every Friday, until I’m done with the full first season (1-13).
The next episode should be up on September 3rd, barring surprise events. We’re out of the RR era and into tempsubs now!
--------------
Please use either MPV or MPC-HC to view the Blu-Ray episodes. I do NOT recommend using VLC.
Please check the post for episodes 1&2 to see why.
--------------
!! This is NOT a final release !!
Nor are any of the files on Google Drive. They will be polished and edited one more time before being put up on Nyaa. Stuff I decide on changing halfway through these episodes will eventually be changed for Nyaa release.
Until that happens, the Google Drive folder is more like a “final draft” than a finished product. I will not be going back to change font, styling, or certain wording until I’m done with all the other episodes first.
--------------
Extended Translation Notes
Typesetting changes
The same as my post on them here for episode 62.
TL;DR
Bahnschrift -> Gandhi Sans Bold.
Athelas -> Berlin Sans FB Demi Bold (for Luke)
White text, black outline, colored shadow for summoning chants for the sake of readability
Bakuro’s font is Lato Black. It’ll be the default font used for most summoning chants unless it’s a special or important character, in which case I’ll stylize it differently.
These are what the subs should look like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If they don’t look like these images, please reblog or reply to this post with a comment. I’ll try to fix it before final release.
Minor wording changes “Rules” -> “Format”
They very clearly say “rules” in English over the course of this episode, but in the midst of translating this I realize that a more appropriate localization may be “format” because that’s what we would actually call something like Rush Duels in English.
Rather than “rules”, it’s very clearly a new “format”, which makes more sense for English speakers. When the final version is released on Nyaa after I’m done with everything here, I’ll probably scrub through previous episodes to switch “rules” to “format”, unless it’s fine as it is in context and makes sense.
You may see one or two “rules” in the subs for this episode; they were kept intentionally. Otherwise, we’ll mostly be using “format” whenever they refer to Rush Duels like this again.
Rush Dragon Dragears -> Striking Dragon Dragias -> Multistrike Dragon Dragias
So if you haven’t noticed, Dragias’ name has been on a wild rollercoaster ride since the start of this series. A lot of people are used to Dragears as it was the initial translation by YGOrg. This is not really wrong, by the way.
The reason why there is so much switching is due to localization. With the official release of the SEVENS Puzzles & Dragons collaboration event for global servers, we learned that the TCG name for Dragias is “Multistrike Dragon Dragias”.
This also backs up an earlier-released pillow set with English monster names, so you can expect to see “Yamiruler, the Dark Delayer” and “Prima Guitarna the Shining Superstar” in the subs after finalizations are made.
Why? Because I believe in using the TCG names as that is what people will be most used to once the game releases here in the West (and yes, it is coming). I have already been using TCG phrasing for various other terms, like “tribute summoning” instead of “advance summoning”, or “spell card” instead of “magic card”.
As we get more news on the TCG release of Rush Duels, I will be changing card names accordingly.
Light Bullet -> Light Blast
Some more minor Dragias changes. This is the name of his first attack. I felt like “blast” was a lot more accurate than “bullet” which is just the literal translation of 弾 (dan).
Bakuro’s lines
RoadRush:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Rush Duels [have] got very shallow rules, where even I, who has difficulty remembering things, can remember them easily.”
Original Japanese: 「ラッシュデュエルは覚えたての僕ですら簡単に勝てるほどの底の浅いルールだとね。」
This is just a straight-up mistranslation. Unfortunately, this is not what Bakuro said.
It should be something more along the lines of “Rush Duels are so shallow that even I, someone who’s just learned it, can grasp it so quickly”. Bakuro does not have a faulty memory.
覚える can mean “to remember” or “to memorize”, however its second definition is also “to learn”. What makes this definitively “to learn” is the presence of the ending たて (-tate), which is used to signify when it’s someone’s “just done” something.
In this case, Bakuro has “just learned” Rush Duels.
廃刊 (haikan) “ceasing publication”
When Bakuro is defeated, he says these words. Earlier in the episode, they were translated as “shut down”, but the word specifically means “ceasing the publication of some news or article” which also includes things like magazines.
The reason the subs say “report... over” instead of “ceasing publication” or “shut down” is because I just felt like it was a really weird set of words to say out of context. I instead opted for something that makes more sense in English, like Bakuro who’s just finished reporting from the scene, therefore “report over”.

A big Yu-Gi-Oh Sevens post
New series! Awesome! The new art style will take some getting used to and Yuga’s hair isn’t nearly stupid enough but hey, it should be fun. I like that they’re not introducing a new summoning type as well since the game already had too much of that
This post is going to be mostly speculation about the series, along with just pointing out things that might be interesting
Okay so my first point is about the new art style. I know that it’s had mixed responses but hopefully it along with the simpler character designs means more interesting and dynamic movement. The previous series tended to lack that, and it was really obvious when you compare simpler looking characters like Ai’s movement to the human characters in that show. And hey, it worked for pokemon
The trailer doesn’t exactly show us much though. And hey, I’m just a person on the internet. Maybe I’m completely wrong
Anyway onto the characters. I’m gonna link to this webpage which does a better job summarising the characters than I can. But let’s look at Yuga
Tumblr media
This is Yuga and he’s the new protagonist. He’s an inventor and the youngest protagonist yet at 11. But I want to draw your attention to this part of the above webpage’s summary of him
He thinks the Duels run by adults currently are overly rigid and super unfun, so he develops his own rule set that he dreams of entertaining the world with
He makes up his own rules instead of using the official ones. This is exactly how 11 year olds play this game and I love that
Also the entertainment thing reminds me of Yuya but I’ve only watched like 2 episodes of arc v so what do i know
I don’t have much to say about the other characters. If you want their names and appearances and even what their names mean check out the website I linked that’s where I’m getting all my info from. I’ll link it again here
Next up: the monsters
Tumblr media
On the left is Sevens Road Magician, Yuga’s ace monster. On the right is Rush Dragon Dragears. Both are, perhaps unsurprisingly, level 7 monsters
Sevens Road Magician is a magician monster, which makes Yuga the third protagonist to use some variant of the magician archetype (fourth if you count Yusaku’s Cyberse Magician, but that was only one monster). It also has the dark magical circle in the background, which a quick google search tells me is a thing exclusive to Yugi’s magicians aka the dark magicians. This is extra interesting, considering blue eyes white dragon appears in the trailer
It also only has 2100 attack which is really low for a level 7 monster. It had better have a good effect to make up for this. Also, this is a deviation from the trend of ace monsters having 2500 attack which I know was technically broken first by vrains but decode talker’s effect lets it boost itself to 2500 and also Yusaku’s ace was supposed to be firewall dragon anyway before it was banished to the tcg and ocg banlist for being too overpowered. Flame wingman had 2100 attack, so maybe another ace is coming later on?
You know what does have 2500 attack? Rush Dragon Dragears, which is Luke’s (the blue haired guy) ace. It’s not clear if this guy is the rival or not, but if he is this is also a deviation from the norm since rival’s aces usually have 3000 attack. It could also be that the guy using blue eyes is the rival
The ‘rush’ in the monster’s name probably refers to the new rush duels, and ‘dragears’ is a portmanteau of dragon and gears. ‘Gears’ is notable because Yuga is the inventor, and it’s stated that machines tend to break around Luke
It’s also stated that Yuga calls his inventions ‘roads’ (which is a pun on his name, for anyone curious). My guess is that he somehow invented or at least named Sevens Road Magician, and possibly Rush Dragon Dragears too. It looks like he at least has a connection to the latter monster
The parallels to DM are also very apparent with these two monsters. One has obvious ties to the dark magician archetype and the other is a blue dragon, plus we have a dark spellcaster and a light dragon (or at least, I assume that’s their types. I can’t read Japanese). Needless to say I’m very excited to learn more about them.
Plus, the title king of duels which the characters are fighting for according to the brief plot summary sounds very similar to king of games. Take this with a grain of salt though since 5Ds had the king of riding duels title but was mostly divorced from DM
Now onto rush duels. They seem to be the new gimmick, and I can’t help but compare them to speed duels from vrains. There’ll probably be a mix of master and rush duels in sevens, like how vrains had a mix of speed and master duels. It’s also stated that Yuga is the inventor of rush duels, and their focus is on winning duels quickly. Looks like we’ve come a long way from the 6 episode long duels in DM. I don’t doubt that the length of duels will still be 1 or 2 episodes though
What are rush duels exactly? Basically they’re regular duels except you can normal summon as much as you want in your turn, and at the start of your turn you draw until you have 5 cards in your hand. Special cards with the new layout seen on the earlier cards will be used in this format, so it won’t break the game thank goodness
One of the reasons I liked vrains so much was because their archetypes were really good in the actual game. It’ll be weird going from that to cards that can’t even be used in the TCG unless they get reprinted in the original card format
I am very fond of Sevens Road Magician though. He looks like a very friendly guy
My final point is the the series is probably called sevens because it’s the seventh series. Also the duel disk is shaped like a 7 which is pretty neat
Anyway, that’s all I have to say about the new info we’ve gotten. I guess we’ll have to wait until April so see how much I got right
Feel free to add on anything else you’ve noticed

Episode 17 - Translation + Screenshots
Unfortunately, as there are no raws for me to sub, the best I can do for people who wish to understand what was happening this episode is to describe it the best I can with my translations.
There is really nothing else I can do about this situation; it’s completely out of my control.
-------
About Why No Full Script Release
I have changed my mind about releasing the full translated script because the document itself is very rough and not really meant to be read by anyone other than me and the proofreader. I also don’t feel comfortable releasing the whole thing without it having gone through the third “check” it usually does when I start timing and subbing.
For context, I usually translate as I watch, and everything is written down quickly as I get through it. This is the first draft, which I call the “rough” of my translation, and contains weird sentence structure + small mistranslations as I am mainly concerned about getting stuff down and less about the fine details.
At this point the document is sent to my proofreader who then combs over everything and fixes grammar, wording, and translation errors. The second draft after editing is what I call the “raw sub”, as this is the file I take into the subbing program.
The third and final check is during the timing process, as I move these lines from a text document onto the screen, and get to see how they work with the episode itself. Translations may be changed, words removed or redone, etc as I watch a second time and read over the work. This means that the “final” translation that you would normally see in a subbed episode goes through three different checks at different times to make sure it all comes together nicely.
Of course, stuff still slips through the cracks even with these checks, but it is a lot less with them.
For this reason, because the script hasn’t (and can’t) go through its third and final check, I do not want to release the full translation as it is still, in my mind, an incomplete work.
-------
Episode 17
Tumblr media
My name is Neil, 11 years old, the person who controls providence. It began when I was 3 years old. My parents, [...], gave me something else to occupy my time with. And that was... duels.
[OP plays here]
Tumblr media
Winning as many tournaments as I did came easy to me. Goha came to scout me, and gave me this garden.
Tumblr media
A vast underground space that encompassed the entire city, the centre of it being my haven, along with the complete control and regulation of duels around the world That was the beginning of my "providence".
Tumblr media
At this point Otis comes in to ruin Neil’s complete control of the duel network. They exchange a few words; Neil recognizes Otis and vice versa. Neil asks if his interruption was his handiwork, and Otis says yes.
Duels as you know will change. A new King of Duels will be born soon.
Otis does not mean “born” literally, as Neil and Yuuga are the same age.
Neil goes on about how the “deviation” from the norm were Rush Duels and tried his hardest to erase them, but couldn’t. Then he found Yuuga.
Leave everything to providence.
Tumblr media
Neil introduces himself as part of Goha Corporation.
Neil shows the USB stick with Kaizo’s data on it and Yuuga notices the Kaizo-seat react, so he deduces that it is real. Neil says he will only give it back if they win against the duelists that lurk within the Garden of Providence. However, if they lose 6 times overall, then it will be a complete defeat in his eyes, and he will delete their accounts permanently.
Yuuga asks why he doesn’t just delete everyone who has ever played a Rush Duel’s accounts, and Neil says it’s “not his providence”.
Yuuga: Then you won't cheat? Neil: You're exactly how I imagined you. As expected of someone picked out by Otis. [...] Neil: Well then, have fun in the Garden.
At the end of this scene, Mimi is shocked that the rumored “genius programmer” within the company is just a child, and may be more important than her.
Tumblr media
Yuuga and co. run into Nekoyama Schrödinger, who is the first duelist they must face. Luke volunteers to duel.
I'll pound some manners into that guy who wants to do something as ridiculous as permanent account deletion!
Tumblr media
Duel proceeds. Nekoyama summons Blue Eyes White Cat and Red Eyes Black Cat, then sets 3 cards face down. Luke summons three monsters then tributes two of them for Rush Dragon Dragears.
He tries to attack but is stopped by Nekoyama’s trap card, which makes him have to guess what type of card is at the top of his deck.
If you're wrong, [your attack is] nyagated, and you take 300 damage, meow!
Romin says she’s worried, but Gakuto says it will be just alright.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At this point the word “worry” makes Luke finally remember his troubles from two episodes ago, at the start of 15.
That's right, I just remembered. The thing that I'm worried about. When Yuuga becomes the King of Duels, will he really give the throne over to me? Agh, I remembered! What am I doing?! Why am I dueling a cat?!
Luke becomes too pre-occupied with his thoughts and decides to guess “monster” for what’s at the top of his deck. He is wrong and takes 300 damage.
He tries to attack again, but runs into Nekoyama’s trap card again.
Tumblr media
Nekoyama: It's said that there are many possibilities that can coexist within this world. Luke: What are you talking about? Nekoyama: You and I, at the same time, can both win and lose this duel. Yuuga: That's Schrödinger's Cat.
Once again Luke chooses poorly and takes 300 damage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nekoyama tribute summons Odd Eyes Twin-Tail Cat, then summons another set of BEWC and REBC. Then, activates a spell card that has Luke guess what the top card of his deck is (again). If Luke is wrong, Nekoyama’s monsters can direct attack.
Luke is still distracted by his thoughts of not becoming King, and chooses wrong. Nekoyama’s monsters direct attack.
Tumblr media
Odd Eyes Twin-Tail Cat's effect, Nyanderful Trap, activates!
Nekoyama returns the trap he just used to his hand and sets two cards.
There are countless possibilities in this world. It seems one of them is about to be revealed, meow. That is, meowr utter defeat! Turn ennya~
Tumblr media
Luke is still distracted and extremely depressed. Gakuto picks up on what’s going on, but Luke denies it.
Gakuto: Is the thing you're worrying about the King's Throne? [...] Gakuto: Then just listen to what Yuuga-kun has to say!
Luke asks Yuuga if he really will give him the King’s Throne when he becomes the King one day.
Yuuga: Luke is my friend. If a friend asks, then of course! Luke: Of course?! Yuuga: No way. Luke: What?! Yuuga: But, anyone can become King. Countless possibilities exist, you know. There is a possibility that Luke will become the King! Luke: I could... become King...?
Luke finally finds his resolves and says he can envision himself becoming King now. He says he’s found his “daor” (road backwards).
Tumblr media
It won't be the same as last time! Because right now, I have decided to become King!
Tumblr media
Duel proceeds. Luke tribute summons Thrust Dragon Bunker Strike, complete with a new summoning chant mentioning his new “daor”.
Bunker Strike lets him draw cards from his deck based on the amount of monsters his opponent has on his field. Since Nekoyama has 3, Luke draws 3. Then, he can put the same number of cards in his hand back on top of his deck in any order. This lets him choose the correct card for Nekoyama’s trap.
Tumblr media
Foolish! I returned my cards to the top of my deck earlier, so the top card is— The card... uh, the card?
He forgets the order he put them in. The others express disbelief.
Yuuga: That's Luke for you!
Tumblr media
He eventually manages to remember and defeats Nekoyama.
Tumblr media
Nekoyama kowtows and begs for Neil-sama’s forgiveness, but instead gets shoved down a chute that then closes after him.
Luke is furious at seeing this.
Let the future King come up and beat you already! Duel me!
Neil says it’s too bad, but the duel has been enough for one day, and to come back another time. He transports them to the exit against their will.
Tumblr media
Neil: It's already very late. Dueling is all well and good, but go home and do your homework.
The gang expresses some disbelief as to everything that’s happened, but Yuuga reassures them that they will win for sure. He’s happy that Luke found his own “daor”.
Tumblr media
Luke points at a twinkling star in the sky and declares it his “daor”, saying that it is the star of the King of Duels.
It then proceeds to fall and Luke jumps out in disbelief.
Aaah, don't fall already!!
[ED plays here]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And previews for the next episode where Roa duels his drummer, Getta.
--------
Hope this helped a little in at least understanding everything that went on! In lieu of raws, this will just have to work for now.
