#SO many people got to see this play out in nwh and for that I'm grateful

I mean I don’t think he really said anything in that deadline article that he hasn’t said before. Even when they were doing press for nwh and people were asking if this would be it for him or if he would play spiderman again he kept saying the same sort of thing that he is so grateful to spider-man and he will always want to do it but maybe after a good break and only if it’s a good story that serves the character right and that yeah eventually if did continue he would eventually want to pass it on to miles morales or something.
Well, he's not gonna say "I'm quitting" during his actual promotion of his NWH Spiderman movie Anon lol 😆
That's why, I pay more attention to what ppl say AFTER they've promoted their film, and some time has passed by. Sometimes, actors will say anything during a press tour in order to get you to see their movie lol 😆 😂
But it seems like Tom had to clarify what he meant, coz I for sure got the impression (as did many others) that if he were still playing Spiderman/Peter Parker in his 30s, that he would find that a bit ridiculous. 👀
At least, I think that's what most fans kind of felt when they read his interview in this 👇🏾context:
Tumblr media
Idk... to me that whole entire GQ interview though was kinda sad to me. 😔 It almost seemed like a cry for help in a way. 😥 He totally sounded a bit burnt out back then....😓 keep in mind, that was back in 2021. So, he might have been feeling emotionally different back then.

I'm SO glad Tom finally took a year off last year, coz he was seeming burnt out. This industry can take a lot out of you....especially when you've been going going going for nearly a decade. 😓
It could also be too that maybe Tom doesn't really know WHAT he wants to do?? He is a Gemini after all lol 😆, so they change their minds QUICK! 🤣
Tumblr media
Idk, I kinda get the impression that at this point in time of this interview, Tom didn't really know WHAT he really wanted to do? 🤷🏾‍♀️ Maybe he was still figuring his life (both career-wise and private-wise) out?
I mean, ppl CAN change their minds. There's nothing wrong with that.
The mood of that interview just seemed a bit somber to me.... just in certain areas that's all. So maybe that's why I (and other fans) got the impression that maybe he wouldn't really want to still be playing Spiderman into his 30s.
He still sounds like he wouldn't mind passing the baton on to someone else in order to include more diversity? 🤷🏾‍♀️
Idk, that's the impression that I get at least.

Spoilers for NWH!
@i-sudoku
Tumblr media
Thanks for the kind comment at the end <3 I'm glad you enjoy my ramblings :)
I am not sure if the trailers were purposefully misleading or if they had shot several versions of that scene and were still deciding which cut to use. I know both scenarios have been used in Marvel trailers. I'm hoping it was a "deciding which cut" scenario, but until Watts or someone else speaks up, we won't know.
I'm also very happy that they went with the cut that they did, that Stephen didn't quite get Wong's blessing, but he wasn't outright going against the new Sorcerer Supreme. It shows a good level of respect for Wong that I think is integral to their film relationship, and also a bit of growth on Stephen's part. That's the most important part of the change for me.
Regarding the spell: I think that Peter messing it up as many times as he did also helps gives Stephen's argument of interference better ground. I think both Peter and Stephen can be blamed in different ways in this matter. Peter didn't offer nearly enough information, and Stephen didn't do his due diligence of asking more questions. Both can be argued that it was the other's responsibility to do so, so I find that just assigning blame to both seems to be the most logical response. And the more interesting one.
Re: letting the villains go to their fates and die I think that Stephen got very jaded after the events of IW and Endgame. He probably tried to figure out a way that had as few deaths as possible but likely saw "fate" put its head in time and again in having the same people die over and over and over in millions of different timelines. And of course he knows the dangers of tampering with timelines, though not how they affect the multiverse (if what he said about his knowledge about the multiverse is indeed true-- and we have no reason to believe he was lying to Peter about that). So I think it's a combination of all of that that hardened his heart from his first movie to NWH. By the end of the movie, he gets a reminder from Peter about the ability to change fates and help the little guy--but he'll always have to keep his responsibility of protecting reality before it. Maybe this reminder will be that he can try to be creative and still protect reality. Who knows--we'll have to see if it plays any role in MoM.
Re: Peter winning in the fight Stephen was going easy on him, 100%. He didn't want to hurt Peter, and he doesn't know the extent of Peter's superpowers and what is the suit. I'm not sure if he's aware that he has super-strength, for instance, or otherwise he may have used the Crimson Bands to keep Peter restrained. But he used the Mirror Dimension to try and shake Peter, but when it came to spells he used against him, it was always verrrryyy gentle spells. Simple Eldritch whips really. If he wanted to *hurt* him he 100% could. But he didn't, so he did not use the full extent of his power--so no throwing buildings on top of him in the Mirror Dimension.
Re: Ned's portal opening Despite Ned opening portals easily, his ability to close them never came to be, which showed his own weak point. Ned was also much, much more willing to believe in magic and the forces of it, unlike Stephen, who was fighting against it until he was stranded on Everest. That's where I believe their main differences lie. So while Ned could start much easier, the finer details then escape him without formal tutelage. For Stephen, once he gets the start and it "clicks" for him, that's when he excels and accelerates in his learning quite quickly. I think your mention of the fear of failure is also another good point of difference between them!
Thanks for the lovely ask!

(This is a rant, not only no one asked for, but also got out of control in its length. Your opinion might diverge greatly, so feel free to ignore should it upset you. I expect no answer! I just wanted to express my feelings regarding the following topic somehow.)
While I am thrilled for you to get more likes/views on your Matt fanfictions, I find it utterly upsetting for people, only now, that he's been rumoured to appear in NWH, to appreciate the character and for him to get more recognition. As if his "potential" appearance in NWH is the sole reason, for some people, to get invested in him. He's fantastic on his own; his association with Spider-man shouldn't be the only "catch" why people should be interested in him. There's more to him than a simple cameo, best proven by the brilliance that is the show "Daredevil".
Furthermore, and pardon my uncontrollable rant, I sincerely hope they don't mess up his character, should he appear in NWH. (again: only entertaining the possibility, none of us know for sure.)
The Holland Spider-man movies, in my opinion, aren't known for their excellent writing. They mainly serve to display the consequences of other people's (movies) actions and plant the seed for future projects. I know a bunch of people love these movies, which is fine – to each their own. I'm grateful you found a source that provides you with joy and happiness, but I'm certainly not one of those people. I'm worried for them to include Matt, especially, because of the writing. Character development, motives, storyline and plot points, the substance in dialogues and motivations, the stakes, and more, truly lack conviction. It always feels rushed, empty and unearned.
Don't get me wrong, any chance to see more Daredevil is a win for me, but it needs to be done right. I hope they hit the tone, acknowledge his traits and development – that are both deeply explored in his own series – and aren't using him just for the sake of a fun fan serving appearance. I hope they treat his character with respect and acknowledgement. No one wants to see a complete out of character Matt Murdock. I sincerely hope, they take all of his accomplishments, in his brilliant masterpiece of a series, into consideration and further build upon it. I hope they don't prioritize plot over character and, while doing so, mess up the opportunity to include a fully fleshed character to serve the storyline, rather than forcing his character to fit the plot. He is too good of a character to be sidelined or diminished in his achievements.
-love letter anon
I’ll tag this ask with #discourse because I feel like not everyone wants to read this, so feel free to filter that tag!
Indeed, his recent popularity stems not from the character itself, but from a possible minor appearance in a bigger movie trilogy. My opinion diverges a bit from yours on that account. I, for one, only got to know daredevil somewhere in July after I randomly found the show on one of my Netflix quests for new content. Personally, Daredevil or any of the other Netflix shows were never advertised to me, nor did I even know of their existence before (even when I rolled into the marvel fandom somewhere in the beginning of this year). I think so many people now think of daredevil again, because the show ended on such a weird note & people finally see some matt murdock content in the MCU. The daredevil character played by Charlie deserves so many more fans & it's fun to see how the fandom reawakened in a blink! I agree that he is amazing on his own (so is peter parker, tbh) so i think them working together would be awesome? they both love their city so much, are crazy smart and have an alter ego (where one is now discovered and the other one not). i think it would be amazing to see how matt deals with a very young kid that now has the whole world on his back.
I don’t think the majority of the people who are very excited about him possibly appearing (but, let’s be honest, probably not) in the larger movie universe are people who are new, I think they’re just rekindling their love of a very good superhero they missed after the cancellation of the Netflix show. For people who are new, however, I think it’s awesome that they are introduced to this guy, just because there was an arm in a trailer that resembled his! Like how cool is that?? I’ve never seen so many detectives at work as when that trailer came out, lol. So, i agree, there is more to him than a cameo, but hasn’t every marvel superhero had a cameo in another movie? I personally think it would be a very fun way to introduce him to the MCU, but again, that’s my opinion!
I do agree on the writing part in the spider-man movies, and I think I would extend that to all MCU movies and Disney+ series. We were blessed with the Netflix series. They had excellent writing, cast, pacing, character development & storylines. For me personally, I loved Daredevil, the Defenders & Jessica Jones (not season 2, that was horrible imho) because there was so much story to tell and they did not rush it at all. If I compare it to the Disney+ series we’ve been getting the last few months, there is a huge difference. I enjoy the Disney+ series nonetheless, but oh my god, are they rushed. Although I love the MCU movies, some really didn’t hit the same as the Netflix series did. I absolutely loved Tom’s movies so far (his movies are why I rolled back into the fandom too) and I’m super excited for this one. I kinda love that they make a broke kid deal with so much shit from other, better-equipped heroes. I don't have anything to say on the writing, aside that it kind of lacks depth for me. Sometimes it feels like the stakes aren’t high enough, so I hope with this movie, and the reveal of Peter’s identity that that might change!
So yes, there is a huge probability they’d botch daredevil’s appearance in no way home. Although, again, I don’t think matt will be in it, especially with Kevin Feige only recently saying that Charlie Cox would play matt if he’d make a return. (+ I don’t know a lot about the movie industry, but maybe Charlie would have some things to say about how they wrote him in the movie? didn’t he have some input in how much shirtless scenes etc he had to do? Lol anyway, maybe this is too naive, but I feel like Charlie would have some input in the writing process, which would be an absolute blessing!)
Yes, I agree!! Let’s just hope he gets his own series or movies with the same writers as the Netflix show. I think that would be the best possible outcome for good character development following an A+ Netflix series.
if anyone wants to weigh in on this, feel free! i'm just stating my opinion just like anon :))

I have to ask, but why does everyone now love the amazing spider man movies? I didn't get it then and I don't really get it now. Andrew was good in no way home but I don't know why so many people want a third movie now?
alright well... I think the first tasm is SO great, there are very few changes I would make to that movie at all, except adding harry and mj and establishing their friend group. However, and as much as I adore tasm2 I recognize it's a mess™. You can feel the scenes the studio forced that literally did not need to be there, no one was asking for the background on Peter's parents, or that Peter was a "chosen one" because his dad manipulated the DNA or whatever. That and the plane scene where the planes are going to crash because of the power being out scream studio executives being like "we need DRAMA and ACTION" so they throw in stuff that doesn't need to be there. I would add MJ to this movie and really show her friendship with Gwen/Peter and stretch out Harry's character arc a bit more (if they established him in the first movie this would have helped too).
HOWEVER I, and I know lots of others, feel that Andrew truly understood Peter Parker. He embodied the character we loved from the comics and you could feel his love for the role on screen. And every Peter and Gwen scene makes me want to SCREAM they are IT!! These movies gave Gwen a chance to actually be a character, something I always wanted and ugh I love it. I wish she was meaner, but I love her so much and seeing one of the most iconic comic books stories that exists on screen, that is going to work even if the rest of the movie didn't. So I can love something and recongize... It's flawed
And I think that people want tasm3 because Andrew's time ended so abruptly. The MCU took over, and we never got that closure. But now with nwh we got it, but it also left the door open for more! I would be thrilled if they set venom in the tasm universe and we see that movie!! Or if they never make another I'm happy too, either way Andrew got his moment to play Spider-Man again and that's all I've wanted since 2014 lol
