Luxury yacht trip around Seychelles
Tumblr media
Seychelles, an archipelago of 115 islands off the coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean, is filled with breathtaking sights and beaches that are among the most beautiful you will see anywhere on earth.
The best way to explore these islands is by chartering a crewed luxury yacht to navigate between each one.
Some of the world's finest beaches can be found in this small nation located off East Africa.
It includes many distinct island groups such as Mahé, Praslin, La Digue and Curieuse. Each group has its own unique culture and history and provides different experiences for tourists.
Top things to do include hiking nature trails through rainforests, lounging on secluded beaches, snorkeling or scuba diving coral reefs full of sea life, and visiting local villages where people still live close to nature as they have done for generations
Crystal clear waters, pristine beaches, and dramatic mountains
Seychelles is a paradise of clear blue waters, pristine beaches, and dramatic mountains.
The country has many beautiful beaches, including the famous Anse Lazio beach on Praslin Island where you can be served fresh coconut water from coco palms.
Seychelles is also home to many mountains such as the Morne Seychellois mountain range which contains several peaks over 2,000 meters high, making it one of Africa's highest mountain ranges.
The islands have a wide variety of wildlife including giant tortoises (one weighing over 600 pounds), giant land snails, orchids, and other flowers found nowhere else in the world!
The Creole culture also lives on in its music, language and traditions which are kept alive by local islanders who still wear a traditional dress made out of cotton fabrics sewn together using needlework techniques passed down through generations past their ancestors' lips since time immemorial
An unspoiled destination with a fascinating blend of cultures
Founded by French settlers in the mid-19th century, Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 islands scattered over an area nearly twice the size of Portugal.
The main island and capital Victoria is home to a population of around 90,000 people and has retained much of its original charm as well as being a thriving commercial hub with a vibrant nightlife scene.
The Seychellois are known for their warm hospitality and friendly nature, but their language and culture have been influenced by other nationalities who have made this tropical paradise their home over the years.
They speak Creole (a mixture of French, African languages and English), which is taught alongside French at school; however many locals also speak Hindi or Bangla due to immigration from India and Bangladesh respectively.
There is also significant influence from Britain too: most children go to either state schools or private ones run by Catholic nuns who teach them in English rather than Creole!
Seychelles has some of the best resorts and hotels
Seychelles is a top destination for luxury travelers, who are drawn by its astounding scenery and experiences. The islands of Mahé, Praslin and La Digue have some of the best hotels and resorts in all of Africa.
Tumblr media
They offer a wide range of accommodations from large villas to small boutique hotels, depending on what you are looking for.
Friendly staff, luxury service and a stunning natural setting await you at the Story Seychelles.
Located on the west coast of the island of Mahe and surrounded by white-sand beaches and tropical gardens, this five-star resort features an outdoor swimming pool, spa and fitness center.
A charter aboard the magnificent Robusto
The Robusto is a 76-foot luxury yacht that offers guests the opportunity to charter their own private yacht.
This magnificent vessel's cabin space can accommodate up to 12 guests and 4 crew members, making it a wonderful option for families or groups looking for an intimate experience.
The spacious interior has been designed with comfort in mind, with ample amenities such as private dining areas, a bar area stocked with fine wines and spirits, a library stocked with books and games (including cards), satellite television throughout the ship, high-speed internet access and WiFi connectivity—and even an on-board Jacuzzi!
The Robusto is also available for romantic charters; couples who want an unforgettable honeymoon experience will be thrilled by the amenities offered onboard this impressive yacht.
Guests can enjoy a full gourmet dinner prepared by your chef while sailing through some of Seychelles' most beautiful bays or lagoons.
If you are celebrating a special occasion (or just want to spoil yourself), then you might consider renting out this magnificent vessel for your birthday celebration; contact us today if interested!
Seychelles is a luxury charter hotspot to rival any in the world.
Seychelles is a luxury charter hotspot to rival any in the world.
For those who want to explore the best of what this small island nation has to offer, there are numerous options for charters, ranging from day trips to more extended voyages that take you around several islands.
The islands themselves have a lot to offer, with some of them being little more than crenulations on small atolls and others large enough to have their own international airports.
The coastlines are dotted with beautiful beaches and tropical forests full of exotic wildlife, including monkeys and even birds whose feathers are so colorful they look like they came straight out of an artist's paintbrush.
Seychelles has a lot to offer and can easily be the destination of your next luxury charter.

Grammar
Nouns have no gender, no number, and no cases. Many of them contain an initial element that goes back to one of the French articles (le, la, les, du): latab (“table”; < French la table).
There is only one demonstrative. An interesting feature is the possessor climbing construction, in which the possessive determiner is not adjacent to the relevant noun, but is inserted before the first noun.
Verbs are conjugated for tense, mood (conditional, imperative, indicative, and subjunctive), and aspect through the use of different particles that encompass the three categories.
Dialects
There are four varieties: fine creole, spoken by the bourgeoisie and strongly Francized; thick creole, used by popular classes; virgin forest creole, spoken in the countryside, and Mozambique creole, used by farmers of African origin.
Media creole is used by politicians and has many English loanwords.

Seychelles Deserves Better
Tumblr media
Seychelles has an interesting history with the Hetalia fandom. And by “interesting”, I mean a not good history. For a long time, she was the biggest victim of character bashing because of being seen as a threat to fan favorite ships.Things have overall gotten better for her these days, but it’s rare to see her getting love independently of things like shipping. She doesn’t have a big following that loves her for her. She’s just largely recognized as the character a lot of people hated at one point.
This bothers me. It bothers me a lot, because Seychelles is easily one of my favorite characters. I adore this character. So for this post, I’ll go into various areas of who she is as a character and at the end, I’ll add in some bonus bits of information about her that I didn’t fit into the other sections. Credit towards Hetarchive for most of the translations used here (there’s also an excerpt from volume 6).
Tumblr media
Seychelles
A beautiful archipelago in the Indian Ocean, Seychelles radiates happiness and a love of her home. Some of her hobbies include music, frolicking on the beaches of her islands, prank calling England, napping, being a tour guide, and showing off her butt shaped coconuts.
The people of Seychelles are described by Himaruya as being adaptable to an unusual degree (this is also the explanation he’s given to explain her mellowed out attitude around England compared to how she acted around him in Gakuen Hetalia). Aside from being cheerful and adaptable, she’s excitable to a fault and this leads to her not being capable of keeping exciting secrets.
It’s rumored that she stays at home because she can’t get the kind of fish she likes elsewhere. Fish aside, she seems overall happy to stay on her islands and help with the tourists there instead of going somewhere as a tourist herself. However, she’s not reclusive and likes showing up to parties thrown by the other nations and getting involved in things such as group costume contests. She’s overall a very sociable person.
Tumblr media
A lot of Seychelles’ character is shown through various strips of her hanging around tourists nations (Germany, France, her unnamed African friend). These strips mainly focus on educating readers about the Seychelles archipelago, with Himaruya even including details in one instance for how Japanese readers have to go about flying there. But these strips do also give a good feel for how good she is at showing others all the great qualities of her home in a way that it doesn’t even look like she’s working as much as she’s joined in on their experience to have fun herself. Seychelles has fun interacting with others and bringing them along in how her daily life goes.
One more important detail to finish up the basics of her character. She LOVES her beloved Mr. France. In contrast to their more rocky relationship (thanks to France’s perverted behavior) in the unfinished Gakuen Hetalia game, Seychelles’ behavior from more recent material shows unwavering admiration towards him and a desire for his approval. Himaruya puts it best here:
Tumblr media
The Student
Tumblr media
Fitting of a character that was introduced in a school setting, Seychelles is shown maintaining her studies concerning the rest of the world. One strip features her naming off the G8 members for a pop quiz.
She also seemed to have studied the individual countries named in the quiz. Despite her struggling to remember his name and the two overall seeming unfamiliar with each other judging by the dialogue, Seychelles had a sense of what kind of personality Canada would have. She at least knew enough to know that him being a show off is very out of character.
Tumblr media
However, she’s still a bit lacking in terms of worldly knowledge. She made the mistake of acting as if she could frolic around in snow as if she were at the beach. And while the image of Seychelles playing in snow is admittedly adorable, it’s also a horrible idea. Because of her high average temperature, cold weather takes a toll on her, even being capable of causing her to pass out if she’s exposed to it too long. Cuba ended up having to carry her to warmth. Speaking of Cuba, almost immediately after this incident, she mistook him for an Asian nation.
Tumblr media
Worldly knowledge aside, Seychelles is also increasingly becoming better at pulling in tourists, a business she’s been relying on more and more. She’s been described as an airhead in canon, but her marketing talents show a charismatic side of her that’s skilled in persuasion. It’s said she relies a lot on her looks, but she also knows how to sell the idea that her islands are an ideal vacation spot in a way that’s so natural, the promotion fits well into casual conversations.
Tumblr media
Such strips give the impression that we’re watching this character grow up in order to keep up with the rest of the world. France even comments on this, telling Seychelles how much she’s grown.
Tumblr media
Insecurities
Seychelles is a character that is almost always shown as having a smile on her face. She’s one of the most consistently happy characters in the series. However, she does have her own share of insecurities.
For one, when described as “quirky” by her friend, she seems a bit hurt over it.
Tumblr media
She’s an isolated archipelago hundreds of miles away from the rest of Africa that describes herself as not being able to relate to continental African nations. It leaves her feeling like the odd one out. And being left off the map doesn’t really help in making her feel better.
None of this makes Seychelles unhappy, she’s quite resilient when it comes to facing hardships, whether it be feeling left out or having to put up with England. But this does show Seychelles is a rounded character who has more going for her than just being the happy-go-lucky island girl. She has grievances, yet remains very satisfied with her life at the end of the day.
Conclusion
Seychelles is one of the happiest characters in the series. Her presence makes for some especially feel-good strips in an already usually very feel-good series. However, she’s not one dimensional in her happiness and has insecurities which makes for a more well developed character. She also as a pretty firm place in the series. She’s a go-getter star student that offers the perspective of someone working hard on becoming more and more developed. And that hard work has come with success with Seychelles being classified as high income.
Seychelles deserves so much more than the stigma of once being the most hated character in the series. She also doesn’t deserve to be dismissed as shallow and one dimensional when she’s someone with clear insecurities and goals that she’s working towards. She’s an overall great character.
Extra Information
Tumblr media
-She likes to prank call England. She’ll even attempt to pass that task on to someone else if, whatever reason, she herself can’t do it. England goes along with these prank calls.
-She has conversations with Madagascar about animals.
-France says she’s a good cook and Germany described one of her dishes as “deep”. -She’s extremely protective when it comes to her country’s nature and is very strict about littering.
-The women in Seychellois society are super tough.

The shop around the corner
Tumblr media
WORDS BY RONNIE HAYDON; PHOTO BY LIMA CHARLIE
Michelle Morden never expected to wind up in Lewisham. “I always said I would never live in a city – then I ended up in London via Milan,” she muses, as she shows me round her elegant shop, Zenubian, on Hither Green Lane.
Michelle hails from the Seychelles – and growing up in the island nation, around 900 miles from mainland east Africa, has had a big influence on her approach to life.
“You realise when you live in the Seychelles that possessions don’t matter so much,” she explains. “It’s experiencing life that matters, the growing of food and spending time with family.
“It was a revelation – discovering how much people cloak themselves in stuff, because they get stuff pushed at them all the time.”
In keeping with this, the offering at Zenubian is the antithesis of mass-produced, throwaway culture. Instead, it presents a thoughtful, hand-picked selection of fair trade, artisan goods and holistic services, with the aim of “inspiring a better world”.
Michelle is committed to sourcing goods made from sustainable materials and from ethically maintained sources – and is passionate about championing independent craftspeople.
Her eclectic range of stock includes oils, incense, natural body products, crystals, art, carvings, jewellery, textiles, home decor, furnishings, lighting and ceramics.
“The reason I like what I sell is because I know all the effort and hours that people have put into it,” she says. “The pieces are unique, everything comes out slightly different so customers buy one-offs. There may be only five examples of each piece.
“Although this shop is chock-full of colour, I might be able to choose you one piece, in one colour that just ‘pops’. See that cushion?”
She points to a deep yellow cushion adorned with a heron motif. A canvas with the same print sits behind it.
“Say you have a really plain living room with an Ikea sofa and a couple of chairs. You come here for one piece, like that heron. It will bring you joy, that one piece of colour.”
We might be going a bit Marie Kondo here, but the joy of considered shopping is what Zenubian is all about.
“People stop at this shop because something about the colours draws them in,” Michelle says. “Through the colour they pick out I can often determine what sort of person they are, whether they’re a communicator or a teacher, or if they need some grounding. Colour therapy, if you like.”
Zenubian also offers healing workshops in the light and airy studio behind the shop, which Michelle rents out to an increasing number of practitioners in the community.
Recent events in the studio have included capoeira, drumming and mindfulness, and Michelle has a number of regulars who use the space to great effect throughout the week.
Debi and Oren entertain children with music and stories on Mondays, Chloe Dupre’s yoga class is on Wednesdays. Freelance therapists love the studio, not least because, at £5 an hour, it must be one of the cheapest to rent in the borough.
“I don’t make very much money from it, but I want to facilitate this growth of interest in self-care,” Michelle says.
“If you look at the way the NHS is going – cuts everywhere – and the effect they will have on our health and mental wellbeing, our very humanity, I think we need these services to be affordable.
“We need this creativity and energy at the grassroots. I think that if you nurture these things at the roots, everyone will prosper.”
Recently Michelle has been nurturing her own roots, and those of her six-year-old son. She feels privileged to be able to show her little boy the two distinct lands of his birth. One’s an archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean, and the other one’s, er, Hither Green.
“My mum is Seychellois, my dad’s from North Cheam, but I found out after my shop had moved from its tiny Ladywell premises to this road, two years ago, that my paternal great-grandparents lived in Hither Green,” says Michelle.
Small world. I imagine the little boy enjoys his trips to see his grandparents.
“Oh yes, and it’s important that he connects with where he is from. Back in January he and I travelled to the Seychelles – January is our only opportunity to close the shop, because no one wants to buy anything.
“The whole vibe out there is different, so my son gets to run around in shorts and T-shirts every day, and help my mum and dad in their gorgeous garden. They grow copious amounts of bananas and pamplemousse.
“Every time we visit we get a tour of the garden, and my son learns about important skills like sewing and growing your own food. Where we live in Lewisham, we also have a garden. He loves to watch things grow.
“My parents moved a lot when I was a child, because my father was a chef, who worked in south Wales, Cheshire and Kenya. I think everything I saw and all the cultures I became a part of influenced the way I choose the pieces for this shop.
“Even the name, which combines Zen philosophy and our Nubian, African roots, represents the multicultural, Creole-speaking society I grew up in, and the London I live in.
“Seychellois culture is so very mixed. Its roots may be British and French colonial but its history of spice exporting means it’s a fusion of Italian, Chinese, Indian and all different religions.
“There’s never any friction; you couldn’t be racist because basically everyone is different. Obviously there’s a divide between the rich and the poor, but wealth is not the sole defining factor. Most of all, the Seychellois treasure their environment. All these are values I want my son to grow up with.”
It’s this multicultural, creative atmosphere that Michelle wants to celebrate in Zenubian, so it bothers her a little when people don’t revel in its difference.
“Someone walked past the shop the other day, and I heard him say, ‘I don’t understand that shop’”, she says. “I was incredulous and thought to myself, ‘What exactly is it that you don’t understand?’
“Then, I thought a little more about it and realised there are some people who don’t see value in creativity that they don’t recognise. Sometimes this attitude does have an impact on me and I ask myself, ‘Am I being too African, too cultural?’
“But not everything in here is African. Agnes who creates the jewellery is French, and Rowena, who made that wonderful heron cushion – she comes from the north of England.
“In the end, I have to laugh. I pitied him in a way, because I know my shop isn’t for everyone, and I can’t hope to appeal to everyone. Whoever is supposed to come, will come.”
And with that suitably Zen observation, Michelle turns her attention to a customer who’s just walked in, helping to bring a little more colour and joy into a grey Lewisham day.

Cruises have gotten a bad rap lately: One recent scientific study found that air quality on a cruise ship deck was “worse than the world’s most polluted cities.”
But not all cruise companies feature gigantic cruise ships carrying 5000+ passengers. In our eyes, small ship cruises are much better for travelers, locals, and the environment alike.
The best small ship cruise lines typically have less than 300 passengers, a lower guide-to-passenger ratio, and expert local guides. These small luxury cruise ships have become increasingly popular in recent years, offering a more intimate and immersive travel experience.
Some small luxury cruises focus squarely on nature and wildlife, while others focus more on the history and culture of a destination. But in general, small cruises are less about the amenities of the ship itself and more about exciting shore-based adventures.

Connect with Like-Minded People
When you’re on a small ship with just 20-50 passengers for a week to 0 days, you tend to get to know everyone on board to some degree.
Instead of being sat at the same table with the same people night after night, on small cruises there seems to be an unspoken agreement that passengers will swap dining tables nightly.
It’s like a game of musical chairs, giving you plenty of opportunity to find out who you click with.
Inevitably, you’re bound to meet a handful of folks that share your same ideals. Especially when you take a nature/wildlife or history/culture-focused cruise, which each tends to attract a certain type of traveler.
Going on life-changing adventures with perfect strangers can create some surprisingly strong bonds. Perhaps you’ll even meet your future travel buddies!

Small Ships Go Where Big Ships Can’t
You’ve heard the old saying, “Size doesn’t matter”? Well, in the case of cruise ships, it does. And in this case, bigger is very rarely better.
Small ships are simply more nimble than large ships. Unless you’re going to a mega port, big cruise ships often have to ferry their entire passenger load back and forth via small boats or Zodiac rafts.

Exclusive Experiences
One of our favorite things about travel is getting a chance to learn first-hand about the history, culture, nature, and wildlife of a destination.
While other travel bloggers may prefer to explore places on their own, we love the knowledge we gain by traveling with local experts.
As a longtime professional writer, I’m continually asking our guides questions, taking notes, and interviewing local people. We ultimately use a lot of this information to make our posts more in-depth and authoritative.
Because the number of people on small ship cruises is limited, there is usually at least one guide for every 8 to 2 passengers. With such intimate access to an expert, you’re virtually guaranteed to have once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

The African island archipelago of the Seychelles (named after Louis XV’s Minister of Finance) located in the India Ocean possess a natural beauty that has even made one think of the Garden of Eden. For most of the history of its inhabitants boasting an oral tradition of folklore with cross cultural influence belaying a colorful history. The predominate language of the country, the French based Seychellois Creole, beside English and French is used in more contemporary times in literature. The two latter tongues of course where authors become more accessible outside the country.
Magie Faure-Vidot Vijay-Kumar is one writer/performer who since the 1980s has produced poetry in all three, earning accolades, and becoming a figure of importance as a great advocate of literature. I first came across her work in the 2017 poetry anthology Amaravati Poetic Prism (a collection that has a whole trove of writers in multiple languages) which included three of her poems. (The first stanza of the French contribution above). Separately reflecting the aforementioned trio of official languages of the islands, it’s always very interesting how one expresses themselves in each of the languages one may know.

Seychellois flag symbolism
🇸🇨🇸🇨🇸🇨🇸🇨🇸🇨🇸🇨🇸🇨🇸🇨🇸🇨🇸🇨🇸🇨
The flag consists of wedges or rays emanating from the lower left corner. The colors are yellow, red, white, and green, with a blue wedge at the upper left.
The flag symbolizes the ocean, the link to Africa, and the multicolored nature of the population. The government that gained power through a coup in 1977 had Marxist leanings and used rhetoric appropriate to that ideology.
The country has used a national rhetoric of development and the pioneering spirit, especially in regard to the development of the outer islands.

The Caribbean and Mediterranean have some serious competition when it comes to romantic island holidays because Africa truly has it all.
From an archipelago that is 115 islands strong to a volcanic wonder waiting to be hiked and biked, an Indian Ocean island holiday off of Africa’s coastline is bound to put the spring back in your step, leave sand on your toes, and a sun-kissed blush on your cheeks. There are plenty to choose from, so we’ve compiled a list of our favourite romantic island holidays:
Quirumbus & Bazaruto Archipelagos, Mozambique
First on the list are the archipelagos off the coast of Mozambique, both offering the quintessential island experience but each with their own touch of charm.
The endangered dugong may very well be the unofficial symbol of the Bazaruto Archipelago. Africa’s largest population of this rare, manatee-like animal lives in the warm Indian Ocean waters surrounding the archipelago’s main island alongside dolphins, humpback whales, manta rays, and whale sharks. And the treasures of the deep don’t stop there. This collection of islands is superb for both a family holiday and a couples retreat.
After flying under the radar for far too long, the Quirimbas Archipelago is quickly turning into one of the most sought-after island destinations this side of the continent. More remote and (if possible) more romantic than the Bazaruto Archipelago, this is the place for honeymoon hideaways. In Quirimbas, you’ll be met by the unspoilt beauty of powder-white beaches, palm trees, and turquoise waters – minus the swarms of tourists.
Hop from one island to the next on a lazy dhow cruise or—if you’re feeling adventurous—go scuba diving or snorkelling among the coral reefs. The warm waters are home to turtles, dolphins, and whales. If game fishing is your sport, venture further out to sea in search of bonefish, marlin, mackerel, sailfish, and dogtooth tuna.

Maldives
A picturesque chain of atolls in the Indian Ocean makes up the minute Republic of Maldives. Malé, its capital, is often touted as one of the most densely populated cities in the world – hardly surprising considering its diminutive size! This pint-sized hub is the thrumming core of the Maldivian island nation and acts as the gateway to utopian island resorts and paradise getaways.
The original inhabitants of the island were an ancient fishing community who settled on the nearby riverbanks. In the centuries that followed, the island was exposed to Buddhism, Islam, and was, among other things, a British protectorate and trading partner with the Portuguese. Its colourful history is reflected in the numerous mosques dotted around the island, in the Sultan’s Park and National Museum, and the nearby tomb of Muhammad Thakurufaanu.
Malé’s narrow streets and vibrantly painted houses are best explored on foot considering the island’s size. However, there are roving taxis to be found. Affordable and frequent ferries run between neighbouring islands including Hulhulé, where the airport is located, and Villingili, an island known for its pristine beach and excellent diving and snorkelling.

Réunion Island
We like to call the next one on the list the Hawaii of the Indian Ocean. With Réunion Island‘s dramatic scenery, verdant mountain peaks that touch the clouds, and one of the most active volcanoes in the world to match, it’s not hard to see why.
This landmass is significantly dwarfed by its much larger neighbour, Madagascar, while its volcano, Piton de la Fournaise, is perched on the south-east corner of the island where daredevils, outdoorsmen, and those generally intrigued, can hike into its caldera – when it isn’t erupting, that is. Otherwise, visitors will have to be satisfied with the magnificently fiery display from a distance. The remainder of the island is made up of streaming waterfalls, lush forests, mountainous landscapes, and contrasting beaches of white and black sand.
Neat streets lined with bistros, boulangeries, and brasseries, alongside trendy waterfront cafes, will have travellers to Réunion island’s capital, Saint-Denis, mistaking their location for a town somewhere in France. Yet beneath this small coastal city’s ostensibly French veneer, there is an undeniably creole core. Full of museums, colonial and religious buildings, and a host of other epicurean delights, a visit to Saint-Denis should be part of every Réunion itinerary.

Mauritius
Mauritius is often lauded as one of the most advanced and established island nations in Africa. With a thriving economy and business sector, superb transportation systems, and a great location a short flight away from Johannesburg, this is a great place to holiday if you’re in search of an island vacay with first-world amenities. As with most of Mauritius, it is a place of beautiful beaches and several excellent resorts.
The island is also dotted with tropical vegetation and a booming social scene. Take the plunge amid the rays and barracudas that call the surrounding waters home, or head out to the big blue to hook a marlin or tuna. Championship golf courses are also found on the island, offering an intricate challenge for even the most seasoned golfer.
If that isn’t quite your cup of piña colada, there are other ways to enjoy the island and its waters containing prolific sea life. Hop on to one of the many glass-bottomed boats that depart daily for tours around, or float across to neighbouring islands, such as Île des Deux Cocos which comes complete with its own mysterious shipwreck.
Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania
A land of spices, warm waters, pearly beaches, and rich marine life – it’s no surprise that the Zanzibar Archipelago is a tourist destination. The main island, Unguja, is a place where worlds collide in the capital city. One small creek separates the historical Stone Town (formerly the capital of the Zanzibar Sultanate) from the developed Ng’ambo, a settlement for African slaves in the mid-1800s and now home to developed office and apartment blocks.
Acknowledged as the historical and cultural core of the capital, Stone Town’s waterfront is dotted with architectural and traditional delights, from the Old Fort and House of Wonders—the former containing local markets and an arena for small shows while the latter’s terraced walls house a museum of Swahili and Zanzibar culture.
The stunning white walls and turquoise stuccos that adorn the balconies of the Old Dispensary are a visual pleasure, while at night the enticing Forodhani Gardens tempt visitors with its market of ethnic seafood.
The smaller satellite islands surrounding Zanzibar island offer a more secluded and less developed alternative to their larger neighbour. On Mafia Island and Pemba Island, visitors can dive with whale sharks, snorkel among colourful coral reefs and keep a keen eye out for the endearing pygmy hippo while cruising through mangrove forests.
Madagascar
In some places, rainforests of long-limbed succulents house leaping lemurs, while stout baobabs sport trunks branded with red-and-yellow swirls. Elsewhere, powder-white sands dissolve into cerulean waters, hiding tropical barrier reefs. This kaleidoscope of nature forms the fabric of Madagascar.
With 250 islands, 450km of the barrier reef, and around 5,000km of coastline, the tropical island’s shores prove hard to resist. Divers are spoiled for choice – from underwater cathedrals to rusted shipwrecks – and share the deep waters with rays, whale sharks, and reef sharks.
Snorkel among curious fish, colourful coral, and graceful turtles. Those keen to keep their heads above water can watch the humpback whales breach, join a local fisher on a pirogue trip, or simply recline in their hammock.
Isalo National Park covers 81,500ha of Jurassic sandstone massif and is home to ringtail, brown, and sifaka lemurs, as well as sacred Bara burial sites. Delve into the island’s history, from the pirate cemetery strewn with palms, to the twelve sacred hills of Antananarivo. Madagascar is a cultural melting pot of intricate beliefs and ancestral rituals as well as ethnic spices and exotic cuisines.

Seychelles
Far off the coast of East Africa, a chain of islands are the glittering jewels encrusting the necklace that is the Seychellois Archipelago. 115 islands and islets make up this small Indian Ocean island nation, home to some of the best beaches in the world.
This is the tropical paradise you thought only existed in movies. Spend your days discovering atolls and their beautiful beaches, and the larger islands blooming with colourful bougainvillaeas, frangipane trees, hibiscuses and palm trees. The crystal-clear waters of the Saint Anne Marine Park are comprised of six small islands surrounded by an abundance of sea life whose delicate ecosystem is fiercely protected and a sight to behold.
