20. Is your Dark Urge open about their Urge or do they try to hide it? Why?

His initial instinct was to hide it. He tried to keep his distance from the other party members for fear that he might do something, but not fully understanding his bloodlust and not wanting to worry anyone unnecessarily, he kept it to himself. The first exception was Astarion, who quickly picked up on Cyrus' walking disaster vibes (/insert complaint about how much extra durge content astarion has here/). The second was Wyll, perfect monster hunter extraordinaire who Cyrus felt could stop him if he lost himself.

And then. Well. Alfira happened. Cyrus didn't try to hide the body and claimed full responsibility for it in the morning-- whether he meant to kill her, whether it was "really" him or his Urge, is immaterial to him. Her blood is on his hands, that's all that matters.

He's more open with the rest of the party from that moment onward (and tells Halsin about it as soon as he joins the camp-- that dialogue btw??? i could cry). He'll bring it up to people outside of the party if he thinks they might be able to help with it (like Abdirak) but otherwise keeps quiet unless he thinks he's a risk to someone's safety.

I adore this song for a resist!Durge, and for Cyrus' additional aasimar associations with divine sacrifice & atonement. The notion of mercy being in retrograde, of waiting in shame for a judgement that has not yet come, of receiving a love you feel unworthy of... augh it's /chef's kiss/

Gotta have at least one werewolf song for Durge aoipfdjasdf. I love the sense of physicality & transformation in this song (my mind has changed my body's frame / but god i like it / my heart's aflame, my body's strained / but god i like it). The dual sense of monstrosity between the singer & the person she's singing to (& trying to convince to share in her curse) also gives it a cyrusXastarion vibe:

Cyrus is striking, being obviously an aasimar. Strangers are often fascinated by him for that alone, drawn by the allure of the divine.

That said. He is often DRENCHED in blood. Which directly counters his strenuous efforts to come off as pleasant and friendly and helpful (hello 10 CHAR...).

Hi yes I’m still working on it!!!!! I’ve just had a very busy couple of months with driving cross country and adjusting to this lifestyle of living in my car (on purpose) and racing 100km through the desert on foot and crewing my friend at his 24-hour race and also I think I caught a very mild case of bronchitis or something BUT I literally finally started writing fic again yesterday 😂 bc I have no more obligations, not even to training, for the rest of the year. Granted, the fic I’m working on rn is not for Even The People but I’m considering it a warm up and I should finish that in the next day or two and THEN I will start writing the next chapter of that fic. I’m hoping to get it out by the end of this month/beginning of December (fun fact: if it’s been a while since I’ve updated and someone comments on my fic there’s a high chance I’ll tell them when I plan to update again lol)

But anyway thank you for your ask!!! It warms my heart to know that people are looking forward to my writing <33333 and even if it takes me awhile, I promise you I will finish this fic. It would haunt me forever if I didn’t lol.

Eunjae is careful in their observations.

In a field such as theirs, allowing their mind any sort of leniancy, allowing themself even just a tad of ease on the job would mean a life lost, blood on the tracks. They can't afford to be carelessness, similarly to how they can't afford to have their attentive stare be too intrusive - the souls they speak too are not the kind you can be that unapologetic too, after all.

But there is no good enough excuse that would warrant their taking this necessary habit into an unnecessary context.

There is no need to chew on the same chip for moments on end - a tasteless mass between their teeth at this point - just because too preoccupied with staring Calum down as he answers.

Calum is not naive. Anxious people are not naive. The naive trust too easily and to be trusting is not something that combines well with anxiety - as far as their humble take on it goes.

But there is some...thing... something about the way he answers that has them wonder how readily he could answer like that if forced to deliver the same response in the face of the worst case scenario they'd painted. Making universal truth-statements like that, because yes he is right, is always easier when the heart hasn't been gutted first.

Or maybe they've grown too jaded, maybe a part of them needs to see something in an adult that would justify their avoidance, their cynicism.

Eunjae watches Calum punish his lips with his teeth for the pause in his words and their hands drop. As if stilling an automated response to a scenario, as if they're hardly more than an AI running an algorithm no one had asked of them, not one meant to appease and put at ease, but one... designed to do what, exactly?

"What good are memories for if that's all you have?"

Or if you don't have them.

Their eyes narrow and they lean forward. Has Calum lost? Could Calum handle loss the way he handles Eunjae? Would Calum be devastated and angry or devastated and sad?

They tilt their head.

"Memories aren't always a good thing, you know. Are you going to rely on them? Will you live to create memories?
