Meng featured in the August, 1995 PWI Scouting Report
full transcript:
HOMETOWN: Isle of Tonga HEIGHT: 6′1″ WEIGHT: 274 YEARS PRO: 18 RATING: Unranked in 1994 ”PWI 500″ STRENGTHS: • Martial arts master. Incredible leg strength makes superkicks all the more devastating. • Poker face. His expression never changes and it’s hard to tell when he is hurt. • Headstrong. Headbutt him and you’ll be the one feeling the pain. WEAKNESSES: • Excess bulk. How much better would he be if he were a little lighter and quicker? fuck this sentiment for real • Stretched too thin. Should be a bodyguard or a wrestler, not both. • Enlarged pupils. Susceptible to attacks in first minute of matches- after he removes his sunglasses... and before his eyes adjust to the light. OTHER COMMENTS: Brought to WCW in 1994 by Col. Robert Parker, who hired him to be the bodyguard for the Stud Stable... Had several heated confrontations with Dusty Rhodes last year... Formerly known as Haku in the WWF... Won WWF tag title in 1990 with Andre the Giant... Held now-defunct WWF “King’s” crown for 10 months in 1988-1989... Has beaten most preliminary WCW opponents in less than 20 seconds... Beat Hacksaw Duggan in martial arts bout at WCW Uncensored. OUTLOOK FOR 1995: It took a while but Col. Parker finally seems to have realized that Meng’s talents were being wasted during his stint as a full-time bodyguard. Meng has the ability and attitude become a major player in WCW. Look for him to wrestle more and watch Parker’s back less in the next year. Also look for him to capture a title in WCW; there are quite a few wrestlers around who are afraid to wrestle him because of his sadistic nature.

i know this is gonna sound crazy… and nitpicky but i just don’t understand the misspelling of Tanga Loa’s name all the time. i personally hate when my name(i don’t share it on here as a personal preference and safety reasons) and i guess hating my name being misspelled has projected onto other names like especially when it comes to wrestling stuff.
sorry for the rant. it’s just one of these things that my brain hyper fixates on because I know that the only “O” in his ring name is in his last name “Loa” and that his first name is spelled “Tanga” not “Tonga”.
History of his ring names(blue is current):
Agent T
Camacho
Donny Marlow
Micah
Nuku
Tanga Roa
Tanga Loa
Tevita Fifita
Tonga
I’m sorry, my brain just can’t make it past that. This is more of a post for me just to say that it is physically somewhere and not just in my head.

One of the most intriguing and legendary figures in the world of professional wrestling is Tonga 'Uli'uli Fifita, better known by his ring name Haku. Born on February 3, 1959, in Tonga, Haku would go on to become one of the toughest and most respected wrestlers of his time.
Haku made his professional wrestling debut in the late 1970s in the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) territories. He quickly gained a reputation for his incredible strength and toughness, as well as his intimidating presence in the ring. Standing at 6 feet and 1 inch tall and weighing around 285 pounds, Haku was a force to be reckoned with.
Throughout his career, Haku competed in various promotions, including World Wrestling Federation (now known as WWE), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), and New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). He held numerous championships and had memorable feuds with some of the biggest names in the business, showcasing his versatility and adaptability.
However, what truly defined Haku was his reputation outside the ring. Numerous stories and legends have been shared by fellow wrestlers about Haku's incredible toughness and his unwavering loyalty to his friends and colleagues.
There are tales of Haku engaging in bar fights and coming out on top, often single-handedly taking on multiple opponents. Wrestlers who have worked with Haku have attested to his unmatched physicality and toughness. He was not a wrestler to be messed with, both inside and outside the squared circle.
Another quality that earned Haku respect among his peers was his loyalty. Haku was known to stand up for his friends and protect them when needed. There are stories of him stepping in to defend fellow wrestlers from trouble, even risking his own safety to do so.
Despite his intimidating reputation, Haku is also described as a kind-hearted and humble person outside the ring. He has been known to be gracious to his fans, always taking the time to interact with them and show appreciation for their support.
Haku's career in professional wrestling spanned over three decades, and he retired from in-ring competition in 2001. However, his impact and reputation continue to live on in the wrestling industry. He remains a beloved and respected figure in the hearts of fans and his fellow wrestlers.
The story of Haku is one of a true wrestling legend, a man who combined incredible strength, toughness, loyalty, and humility. His contributions to the world of professional wrestling, both inside and outside the ring, will always be remembered.

Tonga vs. Boks RWC predictions
By 35, says Josh Graham, South Africa. The Springboks will be eager to respond to their loss, and I anticipate that Tonga will experience the full fury of a wounded animal. Amazingly, intriguing pairings like Andre Esterhuizen and Canan Moodie don’t even receive a second look in the top 23. The Boks will likely end their pool season in commanding fashion.
By 33, says Alan Dymock, South Africa. Is it strange to see Marco van Staden filling in for Deon Fourie at No. 2 as the replacement hooker? Sure. The lineout should be under strain since the scrum won’t be as effective as it could be. Consider the rest of that pack, though. Let these gigantic men construct the armchair if a 75% Pollard is to be introduced back into Test rugby. They’ll aim to maintain their tight grip until Tonga are worn out.
TONGA vs. SOUTH AFRICA HEAD-TO-HEAD RESULTS
South Africa may have won the 2007 Rugby World Cup, but a week after trouncing England 36-0 in the pool round, they nearly lost to the Ikale Tahi.
The Springboks nearly paid the price for ringing the changes for Tonga in Lens, narrowly escaping with a 30-25 victory. And the Pacific Islanders came dangerously close to winning it!
South Africa won easily in the first meeting of these teams at Newlands in 1997, defeating the visitors 74-10.

Sadness behind Tonji Velez Kaufusis World Cup pledge
Turning 30 this year, Kaufusi knew that choosing Tonga would likely mean the end of his playing days with Australia, even as he remains a regular back-row player in Queensland. As one of nine Kaufusi children of Bundaberg fruit-pickers for one-time Taniela and Pelenatita, Dolphins recruit performed the first of three Test Tests for Tonga in 2015 before the surprise kangaroo selection for the last World Cup on Australian soil in 2017. Velez Kaufusi (far left) faced emotions on his return to Tonga at the World Cup in England.attributed to him:Bernard Platt With 14 Origins and a two-time Premier League title in Melbourne, Kaufusi offers an experienced hand and a sound defensive choice in Kristian Woolf’s impressive edge options which also include Keaon Koloamatangi, Haumole Olakau’atu and David Fifita. In contrast, the opportunity to represent his family’s legacy resonates much more with Kaufusi than it did in the early stages of his career. loading “As soon as I made the decision, I knew it worked for me in Australia,” Kofusi said. “Playing for Tonga means a lot more to me now than it did the first time. “When Wolfie met me when I landed, that was the only thing he said: ‘I’m back where it belongs.’ I feel so close to my family and my heritage now. “Wolfi called me and said he loved me back. He basically said, ‘It’s up to you,’ but he didn’t want me to be the half or just waiting to see if I was selected for Australia. “You are either all in all or not. He gave me a month or two and I called and told him I was all in. The success they had and what they built, I just wanted to be a part of something special.” Source link Originally published at Melbourne News Vine

How to Stream PNG Kumuls vs Tonga 2022 RLWC Game Mate Ma'a Tonga Papua New Guinea Rugby League
How to Stream PNG Kumuls vs Tonga 2022 Rugby League World Cup In the first match of Group D, the Pacific island powerhouses of Tonga and Papua New Guinea go head to head at Totally Wicked Stadium in St Helens. Both island nations have had strong success in recent years and will be looking to get their World Cup campaigns off to a strong start.
Whilst the PNG side will never stop trying, I Favour the experience of the Tongan side to get up in this clash to establish who is the dominant side in Group D especially in the forwards where they have a substantial advantage over the Kumuls. This match has the potential to be one of the highlights of the group stage if the stars come out to play. Tonga by 6.

PNG Kumuls vs Tonga Match Preview
Mate Ma’a Tonga have never beaten Papua New Guinea in seven attempts, yet the 2017 Rugby League World Cup semi-finalists begin their 2022 campaign as huge favorites to beat the Kumuls in St Helens.
Kristian Woolf’s men are 1-20 for victory at the Totally Wicked Stadium with PNG 12-1 to maintain their unbeaten record against their Polynesian rivals.
Victory should be a formality for Tonga but it may not be as clear-cut as the prices suggest and the opening matches of the World Cup suggest backing the underdogs with a hefty start is the way to go.
Only one of the opening five fixtures saw the handicap favorites cover the spread prior to Monday’s fixture between France and Greece and Papua New Guinea possess enough talent to stay in touch with a 26-point start.
It may also be worth supporting them in the tryscorer market too.
NRL star Alex Johnston is set to start at full-back for the Kumuls and he looks decent value to cross the whitewash at 13-5.
Johnston is a prolific scorer as highlighted by 166 tries in 191 appearances for South Sydney Rabbitohs, including 30 in 25 appearances in 2022, and he could give the underdogs plenty of bite.
