hey what’s up hello okay so i finally just finished s2 e52 of dndads (had a very crazy work week so was listening in bits and pieces) and here’s the thing is that im also currently relistening to the whole season and earlier in this week, the most recent episode i finished, was halt and catch fireball, and before that ya know was mrs. swallows oak garcia’s home for peculiar teens or whatever that one is called where they are just. at normal’s house and we got to actually get to know rebecca a little bit and i have got to say that i don’t know if i could’ve picked a more painful and wild older ep to listen to as a precursor to dood riddance i really don’t!!! literally half of the shit in dood riddance just circles back to that arc in the swallows oak garcia home and it’s CRAZY
like first of all. the red vines, which they called twizzlers the entirety of e52 which was MADDENING as a person who legit just finished e30/31 where the red vines were introduced
but then like. e31 is where taylor gets the anime sword from nick!!! that he loses in e52!!!
there were a few other things that i’ve forgotten in the half an hour since i finished the ep because my brain is a sieve on a good day and i’m just getting home from two back to back 13 hour shifts (with an extra 1hr10/20 each day for the commute) so the brain machine is so fucking broke rn
but mainly. i wasn’t loving e52 esp after dood left i just was not vibing with it, i feel like the vibes were off in the room in a way that translated into the ep for a bit there, but then anthony in those last like three minutes brought it back around and with the roll of rebecca??? after i legit JUST finished listening to the eps that feature her the most prominently and like truly showcase not only normal’s relationship w his mom but also, as is said several times in e30/31 and their teen talks, just how similar normal IS to his mom and how he really clearly is a total momma’s boy and very much so seemed to be a kid who sought solace with his mom more than anyone else in his family and just. having legit JUST reestablished that in my own, made the end of e52 DEVASTATING for me in a way that idk if it was for other ppl??? idk haven’t checked the fandom yet im very disconnected this season but just.
like
i think that okay so we have ten parents it could’ve been, right? and five of those are the kiddads, and none of us want to see them die, so in that moment when anthony was telling us what was gonna happen, obviously my instinct was like “oh god don’t do this don’t do terry jr again but truly permanent” and then my next instinct was that it would be potentially even MORE awful if it was scary’s dad because finally there he is and that’s ALL she wants and for willy to take that moment from her would be INSANE and then (mind you this was my thought process over the course of literally 10 seconds, my brain is ping ponging in my head and has been since the second i got in the car to head home i need to sleep) and THEN my next thought was, oh god, but how fucked up would it be if it were marco??? oh god, how fucked up would it be if it were cassandra?!?!?!?! and then it was time for the roll and truly in those brief seconds basically my brain flicked through every potential victim and said “oh god THAT one would be the WORST”, EXCEPT for veronica and rebecca, and it made the hit of it being rebecca who was low down on my instinctual list to think of but then the second he said her name i was immediately ricocheted back to earlier in the week when i was listening to halt and catch fireball and mrs. swallows oak garcias home and how many emotions i had about normal and his mom just relistening to those episodes and then the fact that i DIDNT think to worry about her just
all of that combined to make that a CRITICAL HIT FOR ME OKAY like i am SO fucked up over this truly that was WILD and i applaud anthony burch for it and now am excited for the finale even though ive spent the last three eps just dreading it for several reasons but now im excited and devastated and i love that
anyways. that was word vomit i just NEEDED to get this out because the connections between those two episodes really will not stop hitting me in the head and i need to impart that onto SOMEONE. if u read this. ur a real one. rip rebecca swallows oak garcia you were a legend and i am so sad about u

Worm fandom of Tumblr can we convince you to vote for our Cauldron-adjacent moth woman in exchange for goods & services. It has been nearly two years since we have actually read the source media and we don't remember 99% of canon but we can draw bug furries and we can be persuaded to reread Worm with the fresh mind of "we only remember watching Taylor's brainstate getting steadily worse while muttering "oh no that's us" the whole time and we literally could not name anything that happens in canon anymore".
For 1 vote we can be persuaded to rack our brain (full of holes) to try and remember any information about a given character for 1 victory we will reread Worm in a way where hopefully it sticks in our brain this time instead of dissolving out the sieve (maybe liveblogging). This is a serious offer because we take voter fraud very seriously. Please help us rig this tournament horribly so we can do war crimes to a fungus.
Voting link here. We are counting on you to consign us to reading Worm again.

fanouropita baking conversations that may be a bit blasphemous:
sister: everyone takes their fanouropitas to the church and then they give it all away to everyone there, like people in taylor swift concerts with friendship bracelets
sister: do you want to put some music? wait, are we allowed to listen to music? me: we play music for all the easter baking so i think it'll be okay
(after we looked up the prayer you have to say while baking the pita) mom: *starts saying a very summed up version, directed to agios fanourios*. sister: youre supposed to direct it to jesus, not him. me: what does jesus have to do with this?. her: he has to do with everything
sister: the recipe says the flour needs to be sieved. me: if he wants, agios fanourios can come sieve it himself
also we are not taking it to church, we just use the holiday as an excuse to eat cake

Poem of the Day 23 November 2023
Samuel Taylor Coleridge. 1772-1834
Work without Hope
ALL Nature seems at work. Slugs leave their lair— The bees are stirring—birds are on the wing— And Winter, slumbering in the open air, Wears on his smiling face a dream of Spring! And I, the while, the sole unbusy thing, Nor honey make, nor pair, nor build, nor sing.
Yet well I ken the banks where amaranths blow, Have traced the fount whence streams of nectar flow. Bloom, O ye amaranths! bloom for whom ye may, For me ye bloom not! Glide, rich streams, away! With lips unbrighten'd, wreathless brow, I stroll: And would you learn the spells that drowse my soul? Work without Hope draws nectar in a sieve, And Hope without an object cannot live.

Photosynthesis itself is a remarkable process, one which depends on substances far more complex than any of the raw materials with which it works. At the heart of these is chlorophyll, a green pigment which makes it possible for plants to build up carbohydrates from carbon dioxide and water. This pigment is supplemented by red and brown variants better able to deal with the even more restricted wavelengths which filter through to life underwater, but all have immensely complex atomic structures based on a ring of four chemical elements around an atom of magnesium. And all rely, for their formation, on the action of two distinct chemical systems, each with its own peculiar enzyme. The presence of one without the other would have been useless. Everything is contingent upon the elaborate coincidence of both enzyme systems being precisely where they would be needed. And it becomes difficult to believe that anything so intricate and so appropriate could have appeared so early on in the history of life on Earth, unless there was some innate predisposition for it to do so. “It seems,” in the words of Gordon Rattray Taylor, “that in the biological sphere at least, there is a built-in tendency to self-assembly at the most elementary level.”
There is widespread evidence of the ability of organisms to assemble and re-assemble themselves under the most difficult circumstances. Marine sponges are an excellent example. They consist of several different types of cells that gather around supporting skeletons of superb geodesic design, working together so closely and in such consistent forms that these aggregations are classified as distinct individuals and given recognised specific names. Any such consortium can be taken from its base on the ocean floor, cut up into convenient portions and squeezed through silk cloth with a weave fine enough to separate every cell from its neighbour. And yet, if this amorphous gruel is allowed to stand quietly for a while, it soon gets together and reorganises itself – and before long the complete sponge, one impossible to distinguish from the original, reappears like a phoenix and goes straight back into cooperative business once again.
In one fascinating experiment, a red encrusting sponge that is classified as Microciona prolifera, and the yellow sponge Cliona celata, were sieved together and their cells thoroughly mixed. But after just twenty-four hours, the red and the yellow cells had successfully separated, reorganised and reassembled themselves, getting back together in their original forms. Quite apart from this impressive piece of biological management, the experiment raises awesome questions about identity. Two distinct living organisms existed at the beginning, but who was who, and was either alive or dead in the blended soup? The cells were clearly living, but where were the organisms? And what conclusions can be drawn from the strange fact that a few red cells turned up, apparently quite happily, built into the new yellow sponge?

Note
I think Taylor might be delusional. Because it seems like she genuinely believes some of the things she says? Like the whole, "no one physically saw me for a year" thing
ok a few things about this
1) it's almost definitely a marketing thing like she had an album to sell based on the premise that she is Unknowable and was making a Comeback (even tho she didn't Actually Leave for longer than maybe two months)
2) this isn't to deny she was going thru a lot of shit, and going thru a lot of shit makes your memory bad. trauma makes your brain turn into a sieve on purpose because it hurts too much to remember how much Shit you went through. so it's best to forget and just know that That Time Was Bad.
3) as such, it's very possible and potentially likely that she genuinely doesn't remember the finer details of late 2016/early 2017 especially looking back on it 2 years down the line.
4) it could also just genuinely be exaggeration for the purpose of telling a story on camera with no ulterior motive. it just sounds better when she says she disappeared for a year, regardless of how true. more of a subconscious version of point 1.

tagged by @rachel-bloom ily!!
what book are you currently reading?
before i fall by lauren oliver. just a quick reread before i (hopefully) get some new books for christmas!
what’s your favorite movie you saw in theaters this year?
well i only saw 2 in theaters (top gun: maverick and don’t worry darling), sooo out of those 2... i guess it would have to be top gun
what do you usually wear?
currently i’m loving sweaters/flannels/hoodies + basic blue jeans or black leggings. my fave jacket atm is my yellowjackets letterman that i spent way too much money on
how tall are you?
i guess like 5′3-ish? but honestly people tell me i seem taller so? maybe the doctor has been lying all these years who knows
what’s your star sign?
gemini, unfortunately
do you go by your name or a nickname?
i prefer my nickname! just em for me, thanks.
did you grow up to become what you wanted to be when you were a child?
i went through a few phases as a kid tbh. first i wanted to be a vet, then a teacher. neither of those have panned out. i’m still in school and i’ve been writing as a hobby for over 10 years so i guess you could say i’m still doing what i liked to do for fun when i was a kid? but career-wise, so far nope.
are you in a relationship? if not, who is your crush if you have one?
i am not. and currently my only crushes are talented famous people who don’t know i exist.
dogs or cats?
dogs!
if you draw/write, or create in any way, what’s your favorite picture/favorite line/favorite etc. from something you created this year?
i jumped around several fandoms and projects this year, but my baby for 2022 would have to be my yellowjackets time loop fic “freeze”. probably my favorite line for it atm is “In every version of today, Jackie is falling for her best friend. On another today, she even got to kiss her. That will have to be enough.” god i just love jackie and shauna so so much
what’s something you would like to create content for?
there are several fandoms that i get momentarily obsessed with and then they seem to pass through my awareness like sand in a sieve. i would be quite late to the party, but i’d still like to finish that paper girls fic i started someday. i also want to write something leighton-focused for the sex lives of college girls because yeah, i obviously have a Type when it comes to characters.
what’s something you’re currently obsessed with?
yellowjackets, always. also sex lives of college girls and wednesday (was not expecting that one, but here we are)
what’s something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?
don’t worry darling 🙈 i’m such a big florence fan so i really was looking forward to it. i also thought i was let down by taylor’s new album but i’ve warmed up to midnights after a few more listens (still feel meh towards it compared to folklore & evermore, tho)
what’s a hidden talent of yours?
umm... is it weird to say problem-solving? just like generic everyday issues, sometimes it seems like i look at them from a different angle than my family does
are you religious?
nope! still celebrate certain “religious” holidays tho
what’s something you wish to have at this moment?
call me materialistic, but a nice new car. the speaker system/radio in mine is completely shot and i’m just tired of it lmao
tagging @avatrices @wannaliveattheholidayinn @wirypsychiatrist @crockettmarcel @flythesail @lessonincanvases @alittlebitbrave but zero pressure ofc
also tagging anyone who sees this and wants to do it!! i’d love to learn how y’all are doing!

Favorite color(s): Blue! Love me some purple too, but blue wins outright.
Currently reading/listening to: Started reading ‘You are not alone’ by Matt Lucas but haven’t read it for like a week cos I’ve been busy/exhausted. Listening to Taylor Swift and all the other same songs on spotify, plus ‘Awake Arise’ by Lady Maisery & friends because we went to the concert for this album last week. (Highly recommend if you want something seasonal that’s not overwhelmingly Christmassy)
Last Series: Oh man I don’t even know. We’ve been watching Taskmaster and other quiz/comedy stuff, but the last fictional series was probably Hawkeye from back when I have c*vid a month ago.
Last Movie: Why can’t I remember anything I’ve watched recently. Guessing the Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special doesn’t count. Maybe Lightyear? Idk, brain is a sieve rn.
Currently working on: All the drafts I accumulated while ill/stressed/tired/unable to think (and actually doing a pretty good job of it if I do say so myself). And somehow sorting everything I need to before Christmas.
Stolen from: @itsybitsypeterparker <3
Tagging: @acertainfemininemystique , @wcrriorhearts , @defectivexfragmented , @shieldretired , @theresastargirl , @thprofessor & anyone else who wants! <3

I HATE toe taking credit for Betty and Exile but to be honest, he is just following the script. He is basically repeating taylor’s words. He probs not even allow to say taylor’s name lol
Taylor is the one who always bring her “men” into her accomplish so the press follows.
I remember the difference between Beyonce and Taylor’s press during the grammy. Beyonce’s headlines focused on her and Taylor’s focused on how she gave a shout to toe 😒.
That's where we disagree. He's NOT following the script. Unless they told him to mess the timeline up, and mind you their timeline is already a sieve. One interview he says he was singing in the kitchen, half drunk, the other he's on the piano and Taylor's passing by. Which is it? He's constantly changing the narrative. Not to mention he's not making any effort to pretend he likes her. He comes off as nonchalant, as if he's not trying, which is hilarious when just yesterday Taylor was giving a speech about how effortlessness is a myth and how she's all for showing enthusiasm. It seemed to me that most of us were indifferent to him. He was just there and we barely minded. Now I feel like he managed to piss most of us off. That's no small feat. But, yeah, Taylor gave him this power and he's not shy using it now

A new Etruria decks Britannia's isle. Charm'd by your touch, the flint liquescent pours Through finer sieves, and falls in whiter showers;.
Erasmus Darwin.
All Saints Hanley was built between 1910 and 1913 by Gerald Horsley in the Gothic Revival Style that had become popular in the 19th century, flecked by the Arts and Crafts style that had just come into fashion.
(This is a series; please see here, here, here, here, here, here and here for more).
Horsley, a member of the Art Workers Guild, was, like all Anglicans of the time, mindful of the battle with the Nonconformists for Potteries souls; a battle that was usually lost by the Anglicans, but this is a great bastion of its defence.
I had somehow never been here before the British Ceramics Biennial of 2023; this is the eighth such festival (my fourth), and it brought me to a new place as it did two years ago when I made my first and only visit to the old Goods Yard, which I'm pleased to say is being rebuilt (and perhaps will be ready for the 2025 festival?)
Please see here for earlier BCB visits. It is a celebration of pottery from throughout the world and this year is working with the Indian Ceramics Trienniale. Although as a Keele man it pains me to say this, Staffordshire University has been invaluable through its sponsorship.
Folded in amongst the church architechture and fitting into the arts and crafts theme were works by (7) Steve Dixon (I had no idea this wasn't the reredos and is in fact part of the BCB until a guide pointed out the male nude- it's disguised very well indeed!) (8,9) Emilie Taylor (10) Kieran Harris,(11) Matt Whiting, (12) Elspeth Owen,(13) Copper Sounds, alongside many more which are on their way in the next few posts.
Charm'd by your touch, the kneaded clay refines, The biscuit hardens, the enamel shines; Each nicer mould a softer feature drinks, The bold Cameo speaks, the soft Intaglio thinks.
