Vinegar Syndrome / Distribpix Press Release: A Home Video Merger of Epic Proportion
Bridgeport, Connecticut - Vinegar Syndrome is excited to announce an exclusive distribution partnership with legendary NYC-based exploitation and sexploitation producer and distributor, Distribpix Inc.
This partnership will bring Distribpix’s extensive catalog of close to 300 feature films to Home Video, including countless never on disc titles as well as classic exploitation films from genre masters such as Michael and Roberta Findlay, the Amero Brothers, Joe Sarno, Chuck Vincent, Radley Metzger, Ron Sullivan, and Shaun Costello, among dozens more. Additionally, Distribpix’s unprecedented archive of key 1960s and early 70s exploitation rarities, many of which have been completely unavailable since the VHS and early DVD era, will at last be making their return to disc, all newly restored and presented in the type of deluxe, collector-centric editions that both Distribpix and Vinegar Syndrome are known for creating.
Tumblr media
Vinegar Syndrome co-founder Joe Rubin, in describing the collaboration said, “Vinegar Syndrome and Distribpix have worked together before Vinegar Syndrome existed. This venture has been a long time coming and I couldn’t be more excited to be working on preserving, restoring and releasing this collection. So many of the best and most significant sexploitation and early hardcore features were produced by Distribpix and it is an honor to finally be able to consider them part of the Vinegar Syndrome family.”
Head of Distribpix Inc, Steven Morowitz responded “The gang at Vinegar Syndrome is wonderful; they opened their doors and welcomed me into their family. I am honored and grateful for this opportunity and together we are going to produce some absolutely amazing packages. Vinegar Syndrome is the best at what they do, from the highest quality restorations, to top-notch physical releases, so this really is a perfect match and the best spot for Distribpix. Our companies not only thrive on excellent restorations and releasing, but there is a major emphasis on film preservation and archiving, which was equally attractive to me.”
Tumblr media
While schedule specifics are still being worked out, Radley Metzger and Gerard Kikoine’s, The Tale of Tiffany Lust (1981), starring Veronica Hart, Vanessa Del Rio, Desiree Cousteau, Samantha Fox, George Payne, and Dominique St Clair, will be making its world 4K UHD and Blu-Ray debut late this summer, while Michael Findlay’s notorious Flesh Trilogy is being prepared for a Blu-Ray release this fall, in partnership with Something Weird Video. Additionally, the Command Cinema line which has been distributed by Distribpix for the last several years will also be joining the Distribpix/Vinegar Syndrome family and will see both Blu-Ray and 4K debuts of producer/director, Cecil Howard’s acclaimed erotica.
Tumblr media
This monumental merger coincides with the launch of Mélusine, a new online marketplace for premium home video editions of sexploitation and hardcore cinema primarily produced during both genres’ golden ages: the early 1960s through the late 1980s. In addition to serving as the new retail home for Command Cinema, several other brandings will be launched:
Mélusine, which will serve as the flagship brand, will offer deluxe 4K UHD/Blu-ray combo pack editions of some of the landmark works in hardcore theatrical features, with an emphasis on works by the genre’s most acclaimed filmmakers.
Quality X, the name of which pays homage to what was one of the most esteemed early home video distributors of erotic entertainment, will offer single film Blu-ray editions of standout and hidden gem theatrical hardcore features from around the globe.
Distribpix itself will become home to all things sexploitation, pulling from both Vinegar Syndrome and Distribpix’s vast libraries and ranging from the earliest nudie cuties all the way through the tail end of theatrical softcore. Releases will be single, double and triple feature Blu-rays.
Finally, Vinegar Syndrome’s acclaimed hardcore feature branding, Peekarama, will continue to offer double feature Blu-rays of hardcore films in all genres.
In keeping with Vinegar Syndrome and Distribpix’s focus on film preservation, releases under all branding will meet the highest standards in presentation quality and the most comprehensive available extras.
The union between the two companies will produce the widest and most diverse catalog of exploitation, sexploitation and classic hardcore features, available on disc anywhere in the world.

@tiistirtipii said do a tag game! yes boss [salutes]
i have done this tag before, but it was a while ago, so fresh new information coming right up. and so much of it. this is ur warning again that i never shut the fuck up
Three ships
1) akkaye (theyre on the brain. no one is surprised)
2) heart & li ming (newest addition. favorite thing about mlc)
3) asoryuu (from dgs. around this time two years ago they were the only thought in my brain and i was rereading old journals and thinking about kazuma dreamily the other day)
First ever ship
the real answer is contestshipping, may/drew from pokemon, but as it pertains to ql shows the answer is semantic error jaeyoung/sangwoo (i got into bl because of dkz jaechan. it's his fault.)
Last Song
when i opened spotify it was playing MIRROR MIRROR by milli, f.hero and changbin
Last movie
i watched 'a knight's tale' with my brother when he came to visit me last month. it was for sure a movie, heath ledger was a pretty pretty boy, i liked the soundtrack gimmick
Currently Reading
i am not actively in the middle of anything right now., so i'll use this space to recommend some stuff >:) the last book i read was terry pratchett's 'i shall wear midnight' as i am still sort of, kind of, working on my full discworld re/read from 2021 lmao. it's so fucking good i've loved tiffany my whole life.
a fanfic i am patiently waiting for the next update of is the extremely excellent "sunrise, sunset" by otterlylost (akkayan time loop au fic, mind the tags but like. read it!!!! read it i'm begging). another small rec for "a shirt to make him shiver" by kiranokira (who uses tumblr at user broccolination) which is an Extremely Funny winteam fic about crop tops and unbridled lust
Currently Watching
each week i do my very best to keep up with my school president, never let me go, the warp effect, GAP, and now also moonlight chicken [cries] i do not always succeed
Currently Consuming
i have a weird strawberries & cream flavor of dr pepper given to me by my coworker. it's pretty good
Currently Craving
i want only friends. i want it now. p l e a s e.
i'd also be fine with like a chicken sandwich? yeah that sounds good
+
most of my rasmr mutuals have absolutely done this tag already, and my fledgling status as a person who has ql mutuals means that theyve either been tagged recently or i Fear To Interact, so i will (like a coward!) leave this untagged, but if you want to play i love and support you and will read it if you tag me

Hey i see that you made book commentary sometimes and Im trying to get back to reading so I wondered if you do some recs for great female protagonist? You really don’t have to of course but thank you so much if you do :)
Ooooh what a great question I love it ! That said it also really depends on what type of protagonists you like, haha, because that can be super subjective. But here are a few cool, complex female protagonists I love :
- Noemi from Mexican Gothic (Silvia Moreno-Garcia). My fave book last year, a twist on the gothic lit trope of a young woman arriving at a creepy old manor full of secrets, Jane Eyre vibes but in Mexico. Noemi is confident, frivolous and very sharp-minded, flawed but ultimately badass, which she needs to survive the horror she's landed in. I loved that her lust for life is presented as an advantage when faced with a family of creepy European eugenists who hold her cousin captive. I just loved her inner voice in general, and the book is big on female solidarity and the importance of women being believed and trusting themselves.
- Lyra from His Dark Materials (Philip Pullman) My fave books as a kid, also very readable as an adult. Lyra is wonderful, half-feral, resourceful and very unruly, which serves her well when she's faced with a child-abducting authoritarian church. Her special talent is the ability to make-up stories on the spot to get herself out of any sticky situation. It's such an important message for little girls, that you don't have to be obedient all the time, especially when the world is after you. The series really doesn't do justice to her spirit.
- Jane from Jane, Unlimited (Kristin Cashore.) This book is just so cool. It's a modern riff on Jane Eyre (lol notice the theme) and also a choose your own ending thing, where the book splits at a point where Jane has to make a decision - each ending becoming a different genre (sci-fi, fantasy, crime, horror, romance) and highlighting a different side of her character, which is such an interesting take on the idea that our choices make us who we are. I need to reread it.
- Vasya from the Winternights Trilogy (Katherine Arden) Another feral weird girl (another theme here) in this Russian folklore inspired medieval tale. She talks to horses and sees spirits and sticks out like a sore thumb in her little peasant community ; she's free spirited, reckless, stubborn as hell, and refuses to be cowed by the gender norms of her society (but not in that fake YA kind of way where it makes things too easy for her). She's also deeply kind and compassionate even as she goes through some really awful shit. I love her a lot and seeing her come into her power is awesome.
- Immanuelle from The Year of the Witching (Alexis Henderson). She lives in a fantasy version of a Puritan cult and is somewhat of a pariah because of her mother's involvement with witchcraft before she died. She's very brave and very caring, but also very much a product of her society who was taught women are meant to be subservient. She has to unlearn that and she keeps struggling between her need for independence and truth, and her need to be loved and fit in. It feels very real and very compelling (and also scary, since this is a horror book).
- Tiffany Aching, from the Tiffany Aching Series (Terry Pratchett) She is a witch in training and the books follow her from age nine to her late teens as she grows into her job, befriending a family of rowdy, chaotic miniature fairies. She's down to earth, practical and clever, and her calling is caring for people even when it's difficult or not very rewarding. These books are really a comfort read for me, funny and warm and full of wisdom.
- Diane, Duchess of Tremontaine and Ixkaab Balam from Tremontaine (Ellen Kushner and others). This is a prequel to the Riverside series (fantasy without magic but full of queer people, also awesome) centered around two women who are two equally complex forces of nature : one is a scheming duchess who came from humble beginnings and hides her cleverness behind her beauty, the other is a disgraced trader's daughter who becomes a spy to preserve her family's fortune. The whole thing is written as a serial with episodes by different authors, there are 2 seasons so far (I need to catch up with the last one) and it's a lot of fun.
Honorary mentions to the Six of Crows duology (fantasy heist + gang of misfits found family) and the Diviners series (1920s New York but with magic and grisly murder) who have ensemble casts with great female characters. There are probably others but these are the ones that come to mind right now....I feel like I need to read more non YA books....

SNSD Reaction to: Love at First Sight
Tumblr media
Taeyeon: Her chewing gets faster as she looks at you in awe. Has she really just fallen in love? And so suddenly too?
Tumblr media
Jessica: Ignores the feeling at first. But if you approach her and she finds you charming, she’ll start to wonder if that feeling in her heart was fate telling her she had met her soulmate.
Tumblr media
Sunny: Her eyes follow you, wondering if what she was feeling was true love or just lust. She may approach you, at first just to be friends but if those butterflies persist, she’ll realise that what she had felt was love at first sight.
Tumblr media
Tiffany: Finds it so romantic and if the love lasts, she’ll often recount the tale of your first meeting. “And then s/he walked in and I just knew! That’s crazy, right?!”
Tumblr media
Hyoyeon: Thought she was silly for feeling like that at first. Until you introduced yourself and she felt butterflies. That convinces her that maybe love at first sight is real after all ...
Tumblr media
Yuri: Confident in herself and the fact that the sparks she feels must mean something. She’ll act coy and possibly approach you, if you’re too shy to make the first move.
Tumblr media
Sooyoung: Will walk past you, giving you that ‘Come hither’ gaze. If you introduce yourself then she’ll believe that this is meant to be.
Tumblr media
Yoona: Gets caught checking you out and shushes the girls. “Don’t, they’ll hear!” She’s not opposed to the idea of love at first sight. The fact that you’ve caught her attention so naturally makes her wonder if this is destiny.
Tumblr media
Seohyun: Thinks rationally, telling herself that she couldn’t possibly have fallen in love at first sight. She looks at you from the corner of her eye. ‘It’s not possible ... is it?”

Embark on an Intoxicating Journey of Love, Lust and Rebirth Through the Streets of Tokyo with Alexandra Daddario & Takehiro Hira
ARRIVING IN SELECT THEATERS AND ON VOD SEPTEMBER 4
https://vimeo.com/436179361
Los Angeles, Calif. – [July 8, 2020] – Astrakan Film AB is proud to announce that it will release LOST GIRLS & LOVE HOTELS from director William Olsson (An American Affair, Reliance), writer Catherine Hanrahan and producer Lauren Mann (Swiss Army Man) in select theaters and on VOD September 4, 2020. The long-awaited film stars Alexandra Daddario (San Andreas, TV’s “True Detective”) and Takehiro Hira (The Fighter Pilot, The Floating Castle) and is an adaptation of Hanrahan’s 2006 novel of the same name.
LOST GIRLS & LOVE HOTELS tells the story of an American English teacher named Margaret (Alexandra Daddario) and her nightly pilgrimages through Tokyo’s glittering nightlife in an attempt to forget her painful past and discover new meaning in the arms of a mysterious Yakuza (Takehiro Hira) named Kazu. The provocative tale takes the viewer on a journey through the darkest alleyways of Japan, as their affair tears them apart and reshapes them across Tokyo’s landscape of dive bars, alleyways and three-hour love hotels. In addition to Daddario and Hira, the film also stars Carice van Houten (TV’s “Game of Thrones,” Valkyrie), Misuzu Kanno (37 Seconds, Vise) and Kate Easton (Where’d You Go, Bernadette, You Were Never Really Here).

For fans of Catherine Hanrahan’s novel, the release of LOST GIRLS & LOVE HOTELS marks the culmination of a lengthy journey from page to screen since the book’s initial publishing in 2006. With Alexandra Daddario and Takehiro Hira in the lead roles and William Olsson at the helm, supported by BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning editor Sarah Flack (Somewhere, Bling Ring), the film is poised to bring audiences an exhilarating and often-overlooked view of the balance between tradition and modernity in Tokyo. Additional credits include U.S casting by Susan Shopmaker (First Reformed, Martha Macy May Marlene) and Japanese casting by Kei Kawamura (Silence).
The film will be the first title distributed by newly established Astrakan Releasing, the distribution arm of Astrakan AB Film, in partnership with distribution consultant Steven Friedlander of SGF & Partners. On launching with LOST GIRLS AND LOVE HOTELS, producer Lauren Mann (Swiss Army Man) says:
“When I first read LOST GIRLS AND LOVE HOTELS, I knew we had something very special on our hands. Having seen Catherine’s words come to life with such depth, honesty and beauty, it was obvious to us that this was the film we wanted to make our debut into distribution with.”
Director William Olsson adds: “At the Kiyomizudera temple in Kyoto there is a tomb called Buddhas Womb. As you enter the tomb, you walk into total darkness with only a handrail to guide you. You walk and walk until you are completely deprived of any visual sense. Then, finally, you start to see the light at the end of a tunnel, and you come upon an ancient stone illuminated by a small hole in the roof. The lesson is simple. In order to see the light you first have to experience the dark. And that is ultimately what Lost Girls is for me. A story of being reborn. A journey through the dark to the light. Just like the movie itself, which I am thrilled to bring into the light on September 4.”
Astrakan Film AB are current in the final days of shooting Paul Schrader’s THE CARD COUNTER starring Tiffany Haddish, Oscar Isaac, Willem Dafoe and Tye Sheridan. The production which was shut down in March due to the COVID pandemic.
LOST GIRLS & LOVE HOTELS will hit select U.S theaters and VOD on September 4. International sales are being handled by Voltage Pictures.

Something in the Way by Jessica Hawkins is LIVE!!
Something in the Way is book 1 in an epic 3-book saga of forbidden love... It was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents’ house. Under the sweat and dirt, Manning Sutter was as handsome as the sun was bright. He was older, darker, experienced. I wore a smiley-face t-shirt and had never even been kissed. Yet we saw something in each other that would link us in ways that couldn’t be broken...no matter how hard we tried. I loved Manning before I knew the meaning of the word. I was too young, he said. I would wait. Through all the carefully-chosen words hiding what we knew to be true, through his struggle to keep me innocent, and through infinitely-starry nights—I would wait. But I’d learn that life isn’t always fair. That no matter how much you achieve, none of it matters if you suffer the heartbreak that comes with falling for someone you can never have. Because even though I saw Manning first, that didn’t matter. My older sister saw him next. My 5★ Review:
This poignant and touching love story is not your ordinary romance. It is a forbidden tale about Star-crossed lovers and their epic love for each other. It starts at the beginning when a 16 yr. old Lake Kaplan first meets mysterious and rugged, Manning Sutter. Lake has always done what she is told and still idolizes her father. He wants great things for her, so she is totally focused on achieving those goals. Lakes older sister, Tiffany, is rebellious, wild and carefree. She sees Lake talking to Manning and decides that he will be her next conquest. Manning is a flawed and broken hero who works hard and wants to be better. Something about Lake calls to him and he is torn by his need to protect her and stirrings of feelings he doesn't want to acknowledge. Lake has never thought about love and lust, like her sister, but Manning causes sensations to surface that she doesn't quite know how do handle. She does know that they have a special connection and they grow to genuinely care for each other. But there are those that would not understand their friendship and it is dangerous for both of them. I really cared for all the characters, even tho they would frustrate me at times, they were well developed and honest. The story line was so engaging I couldn't put it down. This is a moving and emotional story of love, redemption, trust, sacrifice, and consequences. It brought out so many extreme emotions and I loved every minute of it! I did not see the twist this would take and it left me stunned! I can't wait for the next book! Romance had taken them and they were happy in love. They both lived in the moment, in this fairy tale feeling. Nothing could ever challenge their feelings, and Erik started to think that this might be the one.
It had been just over a month since they met. A month of fun, and lust. A month of friendship and trust.
It might have been something in the air, or the sauce, but Erik couldn’t help but think that Tiffany seemed distracted with something else...
