Note
I wish people would stop caring about the canon pairings and marriages in Naruto/Boruto because they should have absolutely no relevance for SNS shippers in terms of validating said ship. Those who say we are delusional because “Well, Naruto married Hinata so she is THE one he loves!” (I'll focus more on Naruto's marriage here... Is Sasuke's even a marriage?) simply don’t get that it just doesn't really matter who Naruto and Sasuke married because that in no way diminishes their feelings for each other. The main plot of the series revolves around the bond between Naruto and Sasuke. It is their story. They are each other's most important people and this was established back in Land of Waves arc even before the dramatic events that take place on the bridge - the whole point of that very first arc was making this a fact right from the beginning, because the story has always been and was always supposed to be about the two of them and the profound love and understanding that grows between them ever since they exchanged glances, smiles and pouts as lonely little broken kids. No reason to list all proof of their feelings and bond here, it has been done extensively, and if somebody watched the show/read the manga and missed it, they are missing half a brain. That these boys love each other more than anyone else is absolutely obvious.
So what about the canon pairings? Kishimoto stated time and time again that his focus was never romance, and that is not because he can't write romance as we know it (he clearly did), but it’s a matter of concept: what HE considers romance is the attraction that unites people with the purpose of marriage (confessing your romantic love for japanese people is the same as saying you want to be in a relationship, because feelings shouldn’t be voiced without an intention), and that, to him, is NOT the greatest expression of love, nor does it represent the most special bond two people can share.
It is understandable that westerners put so much weight into marriage because we consider it the epitome of love. Well, the truth is marriage in Japanese culture is mainly the only socially admissible means to have children and has very little to do with romantic love. In fact, in Japanese literature, it is much more common for unmarried couples to love each other than married ones. Obviously, there is no absolute truth when it comes to feelings and human relationships, what I'm doing here is generalising social norms and expectations (not exposing my opinion on them - that would turn this rant into something else entirely). A large number of Japanese marriages are loveless (and arranged, but no point getting into that either) and what motivates choosing a spouse is their ability to fulfill familial duties, meaning: is the woman good mother and consequently wife material? Is she going to devote her life to taking care of her children, house and husband, the noblest of acts for a female? Is the man willing and capable of putting his occupation above everything else, working extremely hard and for long hours, with total dedication and diligence for his job, to the point of not even seeing his family most of the time, as an honorable man should do as a provider? That's what makes a GOOD married couple: two people following their expected and strict gender-roles in a nuclear child-centered family (again, please, this is not MY opinion!). What a Japanese man should want in a woman is for her to be a dedicated housewife and mother, since having children outside of marriage is not only frowned upon, it is not acceptable at all, and not being married with children is not respectable enough (same with being divorced). Marriage is, therefore, NOT a symbol of undying love and a deep and special connection between two people, rather, it’s a partnership established with the goal of having and raising children.
Do these descriptions ring any bells?
In conclusion: the pairings were, in fact, created for the sole purpose of bringing forth the next generation, and that was made CANONICALLY true. Would it have been better if they hadn’t gone down that "safe" route? Hell, yeah! It would have been fucking amazing and could even have been groundbraking, for several reasons. BUT as unsatisfying as it may be, the fact is they chose a very TRADITIONAL depiction of marriage that has little to do with feelings, and that in itself shouldn’t be taken lightly, since it leaves the strongest bond, which is grounded on genuine love, untouched. In this scenario, justifying romantic love through marriage alone won’t cut it, and trying to discredit the obvious unmatched connection and feelings between two characters because they never got married to each other or married someone else is ludicrous. Yeah, a married couple can love each other deeply and above anyone else, but that is just not what marriage is ABOUT in Japanese culture and definitely not what Kishimoto wanted us to believe was the case here after dedicating 699 chapters to a story about the special bond between two boys that didn’t culminate in marriage.
You know what IS a symbol of romantic love in Japan? Being willing to die together when the love you feel goes against your moral obligations, holding on to the belief that you will be reunited in the afterlife, where you will be free of any burden and able to love freely.
Are more bells being rung?!
Oh, some bonus info: We also tend to associate sex with romantic love. Well, Japanese married couples with children rarely have sex, if at all. After a woman becomes a mother, she is no longer considered sexually desirable and becomes a mother figure to her husband as well (what happened to Hinata’s big "attributes" in Boruto? Huh). This is especially true when couples sleep in separate rooms and the mother shares a bed with her children. (Hinata co-sleeps with Himawari and we know Naruto sleeps in a separate room. Just saying.)
What's your say?
Is Sasuke's even a marriage?
Geezz!!!! LoLLLLL!!!! This sentence just made me cackle so hard for a good 5 minutes, Anon!!!!!
Hmmm.... So let's get back to your ask.
Well, I don't know how to react to this ask, Anon. Because, I don't know whether you are from Japan or you have a very close Japanese friend who might've told you all these cultural thing about marriage and relationships.
So, what I am going to do is to analyze from the facts you have provided , combine with my own cultural relevance and provide my answer. If there is any Japanese readers who are reading this, you can confirm or dispel this by sending me an ask. But again, I don't want exceptional case like, 'No, my family is different'. I want to know about the general lifestyle of a common citizen and their married life.
Having said that, this ask made me just yell at myself, 'Goshh!!!! Seriously???'
Because whatever you said, It fucking exist in my country too and is still followed by almost 70% of people in my country and I absolutely detest it. That is,
Most of the marriages here are loveless nd arranged - Check
Is the woman good mother and consequently wife material? Is she going to devote her life to taking care of her children, house and husband, the noblest of acts for a female? - Check
People following their expected and strict gender-roles in a nuclear child-centered family - Check Check
What a man should want in a woman is for her to be a dedicated housewife and mother, since having children outside of marriage is not only frowned upon, it is not acceptable at all, and not being married with children is not respectable enough (same with being divorced). - Check Check
Marriage is, therefore, NOT a symbol of undying love and a deep and special connection between two people, rather, it’s a partnership established with the goal of having and raising children. - Awww!!! A million Check.
That's why I was envious of Western people in this aspect, because they have a freedom to choose their own partner without any time constraints and when they do, their marriage can be said to be 'The Epitome of Love'.
My parents marriage is also an arranged one. And whenever they have disagreement and that leads to verbal war, they let out this words, 'I'm here with you because of my 2 daughters otherwise I would've left you long back'. So... Yeah. Here, most of the marriages are child-centered. Again, it's not just my opinion. Majority of the arranged marriage based family revolve around their child.
And I was born, a year after my parents' marriage, and If I hadn't been born, then people will question my parent's fertility factor and start to discriminate them. So, I can boldly claim that, I was not born out of Love or something. I was born because of social obligations.
But it doesn't mean, my parents don't love each other now. How should I say???? It's like a Stockholm Syndrome??!!!! Like when you stay with a person for a long time, you will eventually start to develop some feelings over the course of the time. It took them 15 years to come to a complete understanding of each other. It's the same case with many couples here.
Considering all these, Sasuke never even stayed with Sakura enough to make her understand him, So I wonder what kind of couple are they????? Weird!!!!!
In conclusion: the pairings were, in fact, created for the sole purpose of bringing forth the next generation, and that was made CANONICALLY true.
Awww!!!! Man, Seriously???? I made this claim long back in this post where I said, these women were used as a tool to bring out Next Generation Kids. My claim was based on Analytical Perspective.
And then one of the rabid SS stan reblogged my post and pulled out a hetero card stating, 'They are married and blah blahh...' when in reality, I never discussed about their sexuality in that post. That post was purely based on the number of pages each hetero couples shared with each other against the number of pages Sasuke & Naruto shared together.
Now, you have provided a cultural perspective for those shitty canon pairings.
On one side, I feel the need to smirk, because I am right.
But on the other side, I feel bad like, 'Is this how, this show must go on?? What are you trying to convey from this?'.
You know what IS a symbol of romantic love in Japan? Being willing to die together when the love you feel goes against your moral obligations, holding on to the belief that you will be reunited in the afterlife, where you will be free of any burden and able to love freely.
Hmmm.... It's interesting to know this. Anon.
This is where it differs slightly in my country.
Romantic love here is,
No matter what happens, I'll stand with you, You are just not alone. I will leave my fucking clan, parents, relatives if they don't approve you and we will start a new life somewhere.
[[Here, marriages happen mostly between their clan members. If you love a person from another clan, you will be ostracized or tortured or honour killed by your very parents. It just differs from clan to clan. I was subjected to this same problem and that's why I hate my Clan and left my parents. And this is also one of the reason why I love Itachi. Because we share similar Ideals. That is, Not to be obsessed over your clan and think beyond this restriction.
Also, here in Asian Culture if someone is willing to leave their family (when they don’t approve you) and prefer you over everything.... It means.... that's some Love beyond Comprehension. Just like how Naruto was willing to leave his Family (like Sakura and Kakashi) and like to stand with Sasuke... Just like how Naruto was willing to leave his own family and go on a long mission with Sasuke]]
So does it remind you of anything?????
It's the whole SNS dynamics starting from their childhood to VoTE2. That's why I started to ship SNS, because it represents the true love we always wish for.
In this scenario, justifying romantic love through marriage alone won’t cut it
This is very true, Anon.
I mean, they don’t even have to take a groundbreaking route.
They should have given everyone an open ending, just like Kishi left at chapter 699. What is the need of a marriage, if Naruto is going to adopt Kawaki??? If Orochimaru was going to create a Baby Artificially?? If Rock Lee is going to have a child out of nowhere???
But I am happy that SNS bond is the only one that wasn’t diminished in this hot mess called Burrito. So, atleast we should be happy about that.
When someone pulls the marriage card, I just block them immediately because they are not even worth having a good conversation. NH will pull out the Last movie and SS will pull out, ‘Sasuke called Sakura ‘My Wife’.... So, it’s just pointless.
So, to conclude
Considering my Analytical perspective, I already made earlier in other post and your ask which provides some insight about Japanese culture which eerily resembles the culture I belong to, It all makes sense that this whole pairings and trash is just for the sake of bringing out Next Generation series and those boys never loved those girls whole heartedly. And I agree with you on this.

BNHA: Kakashi dimension hops crossover (5)
Summary: Kakashi gets dumbed into the My Hero Academia universe through random plot devise.
Characters:  Kakashi Hatake
Fandoms: My Hero Academia and Naruto
WARNINGS: Mentions of violence/injury
START  / RREV / NEXT
Ms Iroi always tries to engage him in conversation whenever she comes in, asking questions and chatting to herself in a fruitless attempt at helping him recover his 'lost' memories. Most of the time, Kakashi is indifferent to her presence and always has a magazine handy as an excuse not to talk.
Today, Iroi is in a particularly good mood, humming to herself, greeting him with an energetic, “How are you doing today!”
Kakashi grunts a noncommittal response which doesn’t do much to discourage the woman’s good mood as she runs through a check-up routine.
“You should try watching U.A’s sports festival tomorrow. I hear it’s going to be particularly spectacular this year,” she says as she pulls the blinds on Kakashi's window, blocking out the distant city lights.
U.A? he recognises the name. Kakashi glances up over the pages of HERO!! MONTHLY BREAKDOWN. It is the third time he has read this issue.
“You know, since you like reading those hero magazines, I figured you would be interested in watching the ‘next generation of heroes’ debut,” she continues, noting his attention, “U.A always puts on a good show.”
Kakashi frowns. The problem with his amnesia cover story is that he is still trying to figure out what he can get away with not remembering. So far the doctor’s seem content to chalk up the disappearance of his long term memories to a ‘quirk’ accident but were always more concerned when he failed to recall basic factual information. Something to do with different parts of the brain being responsible for different types of information.
“Watch how?” He settles on asking. U.A. was supposed to be a hero-training academy so whatever this ‘sports festival’ was was worth checking out.
“Oh,” Iori pauses to think, “I, ah, think channel 2 with be covering it?” she hesitates, “You know what. I’ll look it up and let you know later. Sorry, I can’t carry my phone around with me while on shift.”
“Thank you.” He smiles and makes a show of returning to his magazine to dissuade further conversation.
Later the same evening, just before the end of the evening shift, Iori pokes her head into his room again. She is out of uniform, long hair untired, waving to catch his attention.
“The coverage is on channel 2 and starts at 11am,” She holds up her portable communication devise like it means something.  It probably did mean something. The frequency by which people checked them suggested it had a function beyond basic communication. He has held off attempting to steal one because, unlike pens, people would notice and care if one went missing.
“Have fun watching! Oh… also, I forgot to ask…”
Kakashi raises a brow.
“I have a bunch of old gossip magazines. Mum used to read them all the time and there are a few hero-themed ones in the mix. I can bring them in if you want more stuff to read.”
“If you want.” Iori must have noticed him re-reading the magazines.
"I'll bring them on Friday!"
Iori had been unsubtly hinting that Kakashi might have had a history in heroics. It definitely wasn’t because reading information on a page just made sense when compared to the barrage of conflicting reports the television gave him. A few weeks with only the television as his information source has him writing off most of its information as useless or propaganda.
...
“HEELLLOOOOO, LISTENERS!”
Kakashi stares dully as the video footage, which had been giving him a bird’s eye view of a positively massive stadium, changes to a sweeping shot of what must be thousands of people crammed into seats. It almost makes him claustrophobic just watching it.
“WELLCOME TO OUR ANNUAL U.A. SPORTS FESTIVAL! THE HIGH SCHOOL ADOLESCENT RODEO YOU ALL LOVE TO WATCH. CAN A GET A ‘OH YEAH!’”
As if of one mind, thousands of people leap to their feet screaming. The camera angle changes again to show a grinning blond-haired man, seated at a desk and pointing enthusiastically at the camera. All these shot changes are going to give him a headache. Kakashi is already having reservations watching this and its only10 minutes.
“Thank you! You’re an AMAZING audience!”
It almost reminds him of the final Chunin Exam stages -if the Chunin exams had had three times the audience - which always involved some sort of combat display.  There hadn’t been any public Chunin Exams recently for reasons such as a large portion of Konoha being flattened by Pein.
“FIRST UP ARE OUR FIRST-YEAR EVENTS! And what an exciting round of events they are, perfect for debuting our newest students! Give us a shout so they can feel your support!”
Another loud shot as thousands of people yelled in unison.
“Come on! Louder than that! These are your future Heroes I’m talking about! SHOW THEM SOME LOVE!”
More yelling. Kakashi turns down the volume.
“But! Wait just a minute!! We're not only here for our Hero students! As I'm sure you all know, behind every great hero is a hardworking support team! GIVE IT UP FOR our Support, Management and General departments who are also competing for a chance to face off in the finals!”
Kakashi sighs. He is getting the sense that this might be more for entertainment than utility purposes, conforming to the general trend of Hero-related stuff being flashy. Different from the Chunin exam which had deadly consequences if not taken seriously.
“Hey. Hey! HERE THEY COME NOW! OUR STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN THE FIRST YEAR STAGE!”
What follows is an overly dramatized race where the only thing of interest to him are the obstacle types, including robots, - mobile mechanical weapons of some sort that produced a lot of environmental damage but were taken down fairly easily- and explosive devices that acted a lot like explosive tags. Then there was a team elimination round and one-on-one tournament fights after which the coverage shifts to the second year and third year stages.
He uncovers the sharingun only to discover that, while its memorisation function worked fine, the part that translated the movements into muscle memory felt off. Perhaps, the replication and copying component of the eye didn’t work when viewing a technique through a screen rather than in person. Interesting. As there wasn't anything particularly impressive technique-wise during the events he counts the new information as a net gain.
The student-heroes – he is not sure if there is an official term for a hero in training – barely match Konoha’s academy standard in their taijutsu and physical conditioning though there was marked improvement between first, second and third-year groups. These students were what...between 14-18 years old...and yet most had the skill level of an academy  students and fresh genuin with only a few notable exceptions?
Sure, there were - honestly ridiculous- versatile and powerful bloodline abilities being thrown around like nothing, but ninjutsu techniques only took a shinobi so far without a strong base to work from. He shakes his head, reminding himself that these kids - because what else did you call combatants who hadn’t graduated yet- weren’t shinobi in training and would be policing civilians and engaging ‘Villains’ of similar skill levels. It was obvious that the students favoured non-lethal takedown methods and put little to no thought into stealth and misdirection during fights.
Different words…different priorities.
As Kakashi has yet to see any evidence that the country, Japan, was at war with another he thinks the skill level displayed might be serviceable. There were also no major conflicts between the country’s large cities over farmland, water sources and the like. Obviously, this place had sorted out the resource and distribution issues usually encountered when supporting such large populations. Or, who knows, maybe everything on the television was a carefully constructed lie to lull people into complacency.
Now he has seen an example of hero-students, he better understands the low combat ability demonstrated by the police. It also gives incite into the blurry recordings of Hero/Villain confrontations which played on repeat across the various ‘news’ reports. They all tended to hover around Chunin or maybe Special Jounin in terms of skill. He knows generalisations are dangerous so, until he saw the combat in person, he would exercise his usual level of caution. There were bound to be outliers after all-the impressive brute strength of the number one hero comes to mind- and there was no telling what advantages a bloodline ability might provide. Absently, he makes testing the susceptibly of people without chakra to genjustu as something to figure out sooner rather than later.
He sighs. This is why he hated the television. Whenever he watched it, he came away increasingly confused, with more questions than he had answers. Not to mention anything useful being constantly interrupted with information detailing one of the many products that he could apparently buy here. It irritated him to no end.
...
...
The chakra collecting seal is ready before the week is out. Mostly ready...it was ready enough.
Kakashi returns to the roof. Sitting cross-legged, back against the stairway entrance, he works his way through the 100 or so pens, cracking them open and tapping out ink into a large bowl, stolen -like the pens -from hospital staff.
The mix of black, blue and red ink is gluggy, forcing him to add water to thin the solution out. Once satisfied he pulls out an appropriated scalpel – one of a growing collection hidden alongside his pens because having a stash of weapons is never a bad thing- pricking his middle finger, watching the blood drip and curdle with the mixture. The blood would be absorbed into the ink, allowing it to conduct chakra. He mixes everything with pair of disposable chopsticks, taking care not to spill it on the ground or stain his hands.
The whole process reminds him of other insistences where he had improvised fuinjutsu ink in the field. The last time being during his final Anbu missions where he had created a body storage scroll from scratch after unexpectedly losing a squad mate on what should have been a simple intel retrieval mission. Not a particularly fond memory but a memory he was stuck with.
Since his demotion to Jonin-sensei there had been fewer of those sorts of missions. Not that being a Jonin-sensei had been easy – considering all his students had gone off to find other teachers he didn't even think he had been particularly good at it - bringing with it its own special brand of stress, culminating in a stint as Hokage, a fourth war and him stuck here. He is pretty sure his experiences aren't universal. Team 7 was just cursed to fail in increasingly spectacular ways.
He lets out a heavy sigh, leaving his airways open to a sudden gust of cold wind which carries the scent of cleaning chemicals from the hospital and oil from the road straight up his nose. He exhales forcefully and mentally bumps finding a face mask up his list of priorities. It would be good for hiding his features and dulling the artificial smells of a city housing over a million people.
The sound of wind whistling around the building almost blocks out the echo of feet in the stairway, approaching his location. In one smooth motion, Kakashi stands pushing the remaining broken pen back into the vent, nudging the cover back in place with his foot. Carefully he holds the bowl of ink in his injured arm and a scalpel in the other. Kakashi steps back against the entrance so the outward opening door would hide him from whoever came out.
A crying kid comes barrelling through the door.
Well, not completely crying, more like sniffing loudly, eyes all shiny. He even recognises the kid from the U.A combat demonstration, as improbable as that was. It is the first year hero student with the speed-enhancing ability which, seeing him up close, probably had something to do with the strange growths coming out of his caff muscles. High speed movement put enormous strain on the body so he could reasonably conclude that the kid was physically resilient to acceleration stress and similar forces. Not resilient to stabbing though....
Kakashi forces himself to relax, his scalpel lowering ever so slightly. Lucky he had heard the kid coming or he might have accidentally hurt him. A few weeks of reduced sleep coupled with a lot of time to ruminate on past missions and failures has put him on edge. This was exactly why he disliked taking extended breaks.
Maybe, Kakashi should start relocking the stairway if he was planning to make regular trips up here because the young male probably hadn’t had the roof in mind as a destination. Kakashi knows from experience that, unless you were injured or a member of staff, there were few good reasons to wander around a hospital at odd hours.
With the hero-student distracted sniffling into his arm, Kakashi slips around the door and back down the stairs. He hadn’t planned on applying the seal on the roof anyway. Too exposed to the elements and the concrete was too rough for the delicate line work.
He continues mixing while he walks, having mentally mapped the hospital well enough to know which hallways to use and which to avoid. There is a surgeon with some sort of heat-sensing vision who works late most nights that he must be careful around and a nurse with a weak proximity based empathic ability working in paediatrics. Both obstacles force him to take a meandering detour on his way to the ground floor and  the larger shower blocks which housed  cubicles the size of small rooms. Enough smooth floorspace for the expanded seal design and easy to clean afterwards. He supposes he is lucky, some complicated fuinjutsu required several meters worth of floor space. The containment on Saskue’s cursed seal comes to mind and he is glad that this seal is infinity smaller.
Not one to waste time knowing that nurses and patients regularly used the space even this late in the evening, he immediately slips into a cubicle upon arrival. Flopping onto the floor he pulls out the paintbrush he had had scour the hospital for and eventually to steal from the children’s ward. Carefully, he begins the slow process of application.
The final seal design is circular, about the size of his splayed hand, positioned on his uninjured shoulder just above where his Anbu seal had previously sat. The sleepwear provided by the hospital had sleeves that extend just past his bicep. It hid the design, for the most part. The final visible seal is a bit bigger than he had predicted or planned for. If this were a proper infiltration mission, where blowing his cover came at the price of death, he would be in big trouble. If this were a proper mission, he would have waited before applying this. An unnecessary risk. He itches the back of his head, turning from where he is craning his neck to see the seal, gathering up his supplies to be thrown in one of the hospital’s many rubbish bins. Kakashi lets out a breath. Maybe, this whole ‘trapped in a different world’ thing is affecting him more than he was willing to admit and making him sloppy.
He pulls down the sleeve so it mostly hides the design. Not like the doctors here would recognise the significance of fuinjutsu, he reminds himself, even if their questions would be annoying to deflect.
He pumps chakra into the seal and a jolt akin to lightning runs down his limb. It activates without issue and Kakashi grimaces as his chakra is slowly drained and collected. The rate of the drain is pathetically slow. Three years too slow. But, between this and his sharingan - which was always active and draining chakra- he can’t risk making it quicker. Despite the relatively low-level threats around him, Kakashi is, first and foremost, a Jonin in an unknown territory who is already taking risks simply making and applying the seal. He can’t afford to impair himself with poor chakra management on top of everything else.
Kakashi pops his head out of the cubical, scanning the shower block. Nothing of note has changed and he darts out, intent on returning to his room. He is tired and it would be a long, tiresome week as his body adjusted to the strain as well.

TAGGED BY:  @godowned (thank u...) TAGGING: this thing is so long but fun to do, so steal it if you want!
►   GENERAL.
HEIGHT:  5′8″ (178 cm)   WEIGHT:  149 lbs (68 kg)  — merlin’s really quite heavily built for his height. whilst he’s not excessively muscular he’s capable of easily wielding excalibur, an arming sword which isn’t light. he’s built as someone who carries and uses such a weapon would need to be, which is to say he’s a solid little bastard. ETHNICITY:  european, ‘welsh’. OCCUPATION:  absolute fucking goblin acting as a heroic spirit, specifically the grandcaster. GENDER:  prefers he/him. ROMANTIC AND SEXUAL ORIENTATION:  makes absolutely no identification in this field. isn’t interested in labels.  MBTI:  entp - the visionary. the entp personality type is the ultimate devil’s advocate, thriving on the process of shredding arguments and beliefs and letting the ribbons drift in the wind for all to see. unlike their more determined judging (j) counterparts, entps don’t do this because they are trying to achieve some deeper purpose or strategic goal, but for the simple reason that it’s fun. no one loves the process of mental sparring more than entps, as it gives them a chance to exercise their effortlessly quick wit, broad accumulated knowledge base, and capacity for connecting disparate ideas to prove their points.
►   SPECIFICS.
FAVOURITE FOOD:  any strong positive emotions. FAVOURITE DRINK:  generally just water or fruit juices, but does enjoy wine. FAVOURITE HOBBY:  he doesn’t specifically have one, though he does enjoy reading to which end he reads vast amounts. he doesn’t stick to one particular genre and will read genuinely awful books to incredibly good ones. FAVOURITE SCENT:  light floral scents or musky ones. FAVOURITE PERSON:  arturia.
►   TEN FACTS.
his hair is absolutely awful to wash and takes forever. as well as being long it’s ridiculously thick, meaning to wash it properly he’s going to be there well over an hour.
he’s strictly vegetarian, both due to being a shapeshifter and the fact he doesn’t need to eat so isn’t going to kill something/have something killed to satisfy whatever desire to taste something pleasant he may be having in a given moment. merlin has vastly different views on animals, humanising them to incredible degrees.
if you catch his eyes with a light in the dark they’ll do that silly glowy thing cats’ do due to having tapetum lucidum, which is either a hilarious party trick or absolutely terrifying depending on if you’re aware of this fact/expecting it.
merlin doesn’t look to the past and as a result doesn’t often ‘regret’ things, however when it comes to arturia he does so on a deep level. whilst he cannot and will not regret the fact she died (humans die and, sadly, that was the point in her life where she had to die), he regrets vastly the way in which he raised her and the lessons he taught her. at the time he didn’t see the damage he was doing, but in retrospect he does and he loathes himself for it.
merlin likes avalon, but ultimately prefers the realm in which humans reside for all he does not view himself as a creature which should be in said realm. he stays/returns to avalon out of a misguided sense of duty. the reality of it is that perhaps he sees himself as belonging to neither place, though finds himself tied to each in different ways. avalon is where he feels he must be, but the realm of humans is where he wishes to be.
whilst he likes avalon he does not like his tower. it is symbolic to a great many things he would prefer to forget, and as such is not somewhere he has any real desire to be. his continuing to return to it is a continuation of self inflicted punishment.
his primary defence against other people is to just shapeshift them into a harmless creature and leave. he’s not someone overly interested in conflict, and will do weird shit to try and avoid engaging where possible.
he doesn’t withhold information to be nasty/fuck with people as a rule, usually it is because telling people things too early can have negative effects which may end in less than ideal results. he tells people things when it is important that they know, and whilst his withholding of information is no doubt frustrating his reason for doing it is a good one. at least in his own mind.
he doesn’t actually like himself. he falls in a weird place of being confident (he knows he’s attractive, he knows he’s powerful) but simultaneously just not liking himself.
he isn’t a heroic spirit. he’s alive. he’s a living breathing person. he hasn’t been summoned and cannot be summoned. the version of himself in chaldea is either him entirely in full physical form, or it is a self manifested aspect of himself similar in substance to a heroic spirit.
►   FIVE THINGS HE LIKES.
BOOKS  —  as mentioned he loves to read. if you leave him alone you can guarantee you’ll come back and his nose will be in a book, be it one from avalon or one from the realm in which humans reside. he loves all books.
HUMANS  —  in general he loves humans as a whole, be them good or bad he still loves them. merlin does not need to like an individual person to objectively love what they are as a person, taking a fairly altruistic view of them. his purpose, were he to define it, is to love humans.
ANIMALS  —  merlin can shapeshift and understand animals in some sort of loose way. he tends to view animals on the same level as worth as people, often times preferring their company over humans’ due to their more uncomplicated natures in certain aspects. his views in this regard extend to the fantastical creatures of avalon to the ‘real’ ones of the regular world.
SO-BAD-THEY’RE-GOOD FILMS  —  merlin is more picky about films than books, but there’s certain genres which he will happily watch. this is one such thing, especially when it comes to the super cheesy vintage ones which don’t take themselves too seriously.
CONTACT  —  he’s tactile. he wants to touch and be touched in kind, even outside of a sexual setting. he will touch people regardless of setting unless they raise and overly pointed fuss about it making them uncomfortable, at which point he will generally endeavour to curb it. his contact isn’t always an overt thing, sometimes being brushing arms whilst walking, hands catching if he passes something, or sitting closer than another might deem necessary.
►   FIVE THINGS HE DISLIKES.
OVERT CRUELTY  —  as an individual who is likely defined by his love (which is probably ironic given what he says about himself) excessive cruelty between people or from people to creatures disturbs him deeply. Whilst he is used to it-- has experienced it-- he is not desensitised to it.
MODERN MAGES  — whilst he may like certain individuals as a generalised rule it’s not a practice he likes. he finds it terribly backwards, focusing on the wrong things whilst simultaneously inspiring people to do awful things in the pursuit of the root. it’s so far from merlin’s own personal values that he struggles to comprehend it, finding it foolish at absolute best. again, there are some he likes(?) as people but the concept as a whole is barbaric to him.
NEGATIVE EMOTIONS  — they’re more satisfying for him to consume and provide far more to him nutritionally, but he doesn’t like eating them and won’t if he’s given any other option. if he feeds on excessive negative emotions it will cause drops in his own moods, even if not severe ones. positive emotions are comparatively akin to junk-food; they taste great, but they’re ideally not what he should be feeding on.
PEOPLE TRYING TO GET CLOSE —  merlin tries to keep everyone at arm’s distance, meaning that when people take it upon themselves to try and get past this it makes him uncomfortable. merlin doesn’t want to run the risk of getting attached, meaning he doesn’t want people close enough for him to get attached to. in line with this people who’re excessively soft will do him a hard stress, since it’s hard not to be fond of people like that.
GRANDCASTER  —  the title is not one he wants, not one he asked for, and not even one he deserves since he is not a servant. if anything gilgamesh should be grandcaster. the title is just another thing to separate him from humanity, another thing making him more inhuman. keep in mind solomon was the one to hold this title first, and it was only in abandoning the title that he became ‘human’.
►   WORDS / PHRASES THAT ANNOY HIM.
AN EYE FOR AN EYE  —  revenge isn’t something merlin condones, isn’t something he cares for, and is something he abhors. throughout much of his time with people merlin has been treated badly, has been met with with cruelty despite doing nothing to merit it. it would be easy for merlin to be cruel, easy for him to lash out and hurt people as he has been, but he doesn’t and this is an integral part of his narrative as a character. merlin chooses love over hate, and against someone which would chose hate and revenge he finds himself at an impasse.
►   PERSONALITY TYPES HE PREFERS.
KIND / BRAVE / NOBLE PERSONALITIES  —  if someone is a fundamentally good person than merlin will like them and, where possible, will offer them as much aid as might be appropriate in whatever the circumstances are. he will by default surround himself with people like this, finding them easiest for him to be around. even so though he will attempt to maintain his distance, so it may not be obvious that this is where he finds comfort if one does
►   PERSONALITY TYPES HE AVOIDS.
CRUEL / EXCESSIVELY ARROGANT / SELF-CENTRED PERSONALITIES  —  essentially ‘tyrants’ in a genuine sense. they’re personalities that can make him fairly uncomfortable, though given his exposure to them from a young age he’s all equipped at handling and deflecting them. the values of people like this are far removed from merlin’s own, making him entirely incompatible with people like this for all he can and will endure their presence without much fuss.

Feminism's goal is women rights. Not domination or whatever other ridiculousness. I don't think there is a woman out there who's against herself having basic rights like education and etc. It's just that like many other terms, the word 'feminism' is muddled and wrongly interpreted and may be perceived in a negative connotation. I tried to be brief.. Have a nice day.
Anon, I really appreciate your concern about feminism and human rights. Unfortunately, as far as my knowledge goes, feminism as a movement had already a rough start, in that even in the early days when a major fight for women’s rights in the west was necessary, the radicals and terrorists within it were far from absent. And in the modern era it cannot be denied that the movement has been focusing so much on women’s rights that it considers them superior to anything and everything else…especially men’s rights. As it is, another hallmark of third-wave feminism is its fully embracing Marxist identity politics and oppression narratives, to the point that feminists are more apt to go looking for problems that women face (including turning non-issues into problems) than to help solve these problems (well, except for asking for more state intervention and regulation, that is). I could almost compare it to “class warfare” ideology, seeing how women and men are casted as perpetual enemies, with the latter being inherently oppressive and the former powerless victims.
One look into the minds of prominent feminists of our times reveals how entrenched the movement is in oppression narratives and, yes, even outright misandry:
“Women are the primary victims of war. They lose their husbands, their brothers, their fathers.” -Hillary R. Clinton
“I feel that ‘man-hating’ is an honorable and viable political act, that the oppressed have a right to class-hatred against the class that is oppressing them.” -Robin Morgan
“I claim that rape exists any time sexual intercourse occurs when it has not been initiated by the woman, out of her own genuine affection and desire.” - Robin Morgan
“To call a man an animal is to flatter him; he’s a machine, a walking dildo.” - Valerie Solanas, author of the SCUM Manifesto, which is dearly loved in feminist circles
“The male is a domestic animal which, if treated with firmness…can be trained to do most things.” - Jilly Cooper
“I want to see a man beaten to a bloody pulp with a high-heel shoved in his mouth, like an apple in the mouth of a pig.” - Andrea Dworkin
“Under patriarchy, every woman’s son is her potential betrayer and also the inevitable rapist or exploiter of another woman.” - Andrea Dworkin
(and guess what, feminists tend to believe that there still IS such an omnipotent Patriarchy in the West)
“The institution of sexual intercourse is anti-feminist” - Ti-Grace Atkinson
“Rape is nothing more or less than a conscious process of intimidation by which all men keep all women in a state of fear” - Susan Brownmiller
“When a woman reaches orgasm with a man she is only collaborating with the patriarchal system, eroticizing her own oppression.” - Sheila Jeffrys
“All sex, even consensual sex between a married couple, is an act of violence perpetrated against a woman.” – Catherine MacKinnon
“The more famous and powerful I get the more power I have to hurt men.” - Sharon Stone
“The proportion of men must be reduced to and maintained at approximately 10% of the human race.” - Sally Miller Gearhart
“If life is to survive on this planet, there must be a decontamination of the Earth. I think this will be accompanied by an evolutionary process that will result in a drastic reduction of the population of males.” - Mary Daly, former Professor at Boston College
“If anyone is prosecuted for filing a false report, then victims of real attacks will be less likely to report them.” - David Angier
“The media treat male assaults on women like rape, beating, and murder of wives and female lovers, or male incest with children, as individual aberrations…obscuring the fact that all male violence toward women is part of a concerted campaign.” - Marilyn French
“I believe that women have a capacity for understanding and compassion which man structurally does not have, does not have it because he cannot have it. He’s just incapable of it.” - Barbara Jordan; Former Congresswoman
“The simple fact is that every woman must be willing to be identified as a lesbian to be fully feminist” (National NOW Times, January, 1988)
“Since marriage constitutes slavery for women, it is clear that the women’s movement must concentrate on attacking this institution. Freedom for women cannot be won without the abolition of marriage” - Sheila Cronan
And last, but certainly not least:
“All men are rapists and that’s all they are” - Marilyn French
Look at all of this. Take a very close look. These are all things said SERIOUSLY by prominent feminist figures of our time. Statements for which none of these people have faced, to my knowledge, any backlash. Statements considered mainstream for this movement.Do you want to know what these convey to me?
They tell me that, according to modern feminism:
Gynocentrism is everything
Men are all one huge group with no differences between them, not actual individual human beings
Same goes for women
Hatred of men is an honourable act
Men are expendable, mere utilitarian means to an end
Women are so brainwashed that they are being raped and don’t know it
Consensual sex is rape if feminists don’t like the parameters. (Alternatively: all heterosexual sex is rape)
Violence against men is OK because they are ALL oppressors somehow
A woman has to live in constant fear of all men, even her own son
Men are inferior even to animals, their only purpose is to use them for sex
Heterosexuality is anti-woman
All men are rapists and they use that as terrorism against women
A woman enjoying sex with her male partner is too stupid to know that she is eroticising her own oppression, feminists have to “enlighten” her in order for her to see the “truth”
If the population of men were to be reduced, that would be a “decontamination” of the earth
Violence against women is a carefully executed scheme by a powerful conspiracy
Women filing false accusations should not be punished
Men cannot be understanding and compassionate
Marriage and family are slavery
The only thing a man can be is a rapist and an oppressor
In a nutshell, women (hint: VICTIM CLASS) are so incapable of thinking for themselves that they don’t realise how oppressed they are by men (hint: OPPRESSOR CLASS) and due to this, they need the guidance of Feminists (hint: MESSIAH CLASS) in order to be truly free and free-thinking.
So I ask you, anon: why would anyone, man or woman, ever want to be part of such a hateful, violent, domination-bent, man-hating, woman-patronising, family-despising movement which thrives on generalisations, conspiracy theories, division and animosity? Why would I trust a movement which is abhorrently misandric AND misogynistic at the same time with the fight for human rights?Maybe, just maybe, feminism used to exist like you envision it. A well-meaning fight for true equality of the two sexes. But even if it used to be so…it has definitely been hijacked.
Peace.
