“We crept up to the highway, planning to send vehicles down it to the east and west to guard the flanks of the crossing point. Just as we left the comparative safety of the desert and committed ourselves to crossing, two trucks came over a rise to the east, traveling quickly toward us on the pavement. I raised my binoculars. They looked like Toyota Land Cruisers, painted desert brown and filled with people. Classic Iraqi military. A few days later, those trucks would have disappeared in a fireball anywhere within a mile of us, but this was the first day of the war. killing and destroying had not yet become routine. Reconnaissance units train to collect information and report it back to combat commanders, who generally oversee most of the destruction. So when the trucks came over the hill, the teams fell back on their training: instead of firing, they reported what they saw. I listened to meticulous descriptions of the trucks on the radio and wondered why no one at the front was shooting.“

Daily Forza Car #19/20: Arctic Vacation
Tumblr media
So, to make up for missing yesterday's post, today is a bit of a double post. A rather fitting double post, at that, since they're both modified Toyotas from the same, er, tuning company? I guess? Hailing from Iceland, Arctic Trucks makes, well, just that, trucks built for the Poles. These specific models, the AT37 Land Cruiser pictured above, and the AT38 Hilux Invincible below, are pretty good examples of their work, not to mention the latter being specially made.
Tumblr media
Now, Forza doesn't really have any landscapes that scream "Arctic", the closest you'll get is winter in Britain, with the frozen lake and bounds of snow, but that doesn't mean they're out of place, either. Technically speaking, you don't need to be in the arctic to even own one of these, it just so happens that the majority of their customers are. Go figure.
Tumblr media
Now, I said the Hilux is more well known, and that is due to a little, obscure TV show from Britain known as Top Gear. During the South Pole special, this was their car of choice, the Hilux being a truck that has a lot of history with the TV show. Hell, the Invincible title was named after their escapades with the truck. They drowned it in the English channel, blew up a building it was resting on, set it on fire, and it still kept going. Not this truck, mind you, one from the 90's. And all this was mostly to joke about how the damned thing shows up in every insurgency or rebel group around the world.
Tumblr media
The show didn't mention Arctic Trucks by name (unless I'm forgetting, it has been a while since I watched the special), but it did race to magnetic south against a dogsled. And, though the race was closer than you'd expect due to the ridiculously harsh terrain that Antarctica sports, it did win, although they did also win a threatened lawsuit over them driving while drinking gin. Which, in what is effectively no-mans-land, they just considered "sailing." Something they also did with a converted Hilux later down the line.
Go figure.

Quote
So I had symptoms of heart failure, a couple of years ago, according my end-stage, COPD burdened mother.
My heart had been broken a measly eleven years at that time, coming up on fourteen at the time of this writing. She was, of course, heavily medicated at the time, and trying to find the *exact* combination of gum flavor, breath mint, and a source of block ice, that reprised the “euphoria” she had felt back in the 1980s. When she was being slipped cocaine to “perk her up” via her uncovered soda glasses. She didn’t pay it much mind because nobody ever cared how I felt or what I thought. Living in the “no true scotsman” fallacy as it were.
Same as he had been slipping my mom cocaine, my dad had suggested a way to go about “blowing off steam” if it happened to suit me. You can kill things that people eat, but only with tags, and only in season. You can kill things that nobody seems to even notice are there; like starlings. What’s a few hundred from thousands here or there? Some people shoot rats at the dump; everyone knows they’re around, some people know there are ten for every one you can see (shoot?), and people see them as often as ever with or without using the place as a shooting range. Same with ground squirrels; people notice squirrels *sometimes* but they certainly don’t count them. Especially not the holes in the ground where they live and breed.
(My dad was a funny guy, an Axis-II all the way as the modern DSM would call it, and a serial killer type, which I have mentioned before)
Some people don’t ask questions about these things. As this is my multi-generational hometown, I’m prone to taking the sort of long walks that follow all the important grids. The roads new and old, the water grid, the sewer system, city electrical, etc.
I’ve been followed the length of streets by cars and trucks driving the wrong way in the next town over in previous years, because a drug kingpin happens to call that place home. Cartel presence has to subsume generic street thuggery because it has to be “worthy” we’ll say of one of the wealthier families in the state (and possibly the most powerful these days).
Walking that much, you start to notice where the cars you pass “live”. Who owns a red honda, or a blue ford, or drives any number of service vehicles. So when you meet them in “out of the way” places, as maybe parked in front of a sex shop, you can say with certainty that something is up.
When they’re bilking money out of the IRS writing off the mileage. Services like the Fed Ex industry of said company, UPS, DHL, and even the postal service itself. They didn’t “skip” a mailbox, they’re rerunning a serviced street; each truck has a designation in the form of a number. Cars have license plates. The corporate “double irish” we’re not, among the majority of Oregonians, but *we are* the wild west. Mileage is a write-off. For service vehicles themselves a write-off. All it takes is an LLC. You start to notice, as I said, when vehicles aren’t where they’re supposed to be.
No less than five different vehicles parked outside a cottage-size house that can’t be more than 700sq feet. In total. Sometimes you notice these things.
You notice that Toyota Land Cruiser FJs, are as often parked on private drives (or tucked away in garages) as they are “khaki” colored. You notice “who had one first” and when that became the template for people like that person. We didn’t have a deluge of honda fit’s driving around until women in the sex trade decided that they were “sporty”. Silver is a “big thing” because Oregon is the “Other Florida” being the marijuana capital of the world to match the cocaine godmother’s Florida. Second place is about as good as anyone gets because people had long paid off their houses with crops protected by tripwires and machineguns.
(Oregon hasn’t had timber dollars since the 1970s)
They have their weapons, they have their “Alive” style neighborhoods of fire forged friendships from the drug trade. Some of them with more combat training that the average opportunistic weekend drug dealer, form up into “units” of BMXers; body armor and all. Same as a world war gave way to biker gang “patrols”.
As I said, you notice these things. Cost of fuel *alone* (how much was it for months where *YOU* live?) add up to the down payment on a house, month to month. For all those “out of the way” sorties on write-off mileage. And I’m guessing the IRS just of goes with it, because you’re driving your HVAC truck to the same house (remember writing off the mileage? On the daily?) or thereabouts, several times in the same tax period, and obviously it’s work-related for a job that you know how to do. And have the tools for.
Anyway, a sort of long story short, there’s a giant automotive wholesaler based here, that only cares that payments are made, not by what means. They don’t even bother to look, because that would be bad business practice to snoop where they’d be making a sale. Green industry, you might call it, where money grew on trees called cannabis, that shored up the whole ailing state. And so it went up until the 00s.
America asks how Donald Trump is even a billionaire when they have the receipts. Ask again how Oregon afforded the dotcom boom. Where your car came from, and your house, and your daily drive through the coffee kiosks so numerous that they come in two or three different brands. You start to notice these things.
A contender for “most coveted grocery store” in town, build a giant staircase to an upstairs office that they didn’t really need. At great expense and questionable permit legality, perfectly connoting Schindler’s factory office (you know, where they were taking pot shots at the workers out the windows?). And yeah, the “owner”, is blond haired and with blue eyes. Some quotes because it’s really the owner’s husband; what remains of a once powerful mob family from Arizona who created a sort of precursor to Walmart in the southwest. You know, to give back. That was a long time ago.
As I said, blond and blue eyed. And *only after* a norwegian began working there and struck up a sort of relationship with the manager’s son. Spending didn’t stop there. Seeing a need for a separate building, and after building the first wasn’t really a “true office”, they bought (paying WAY TOO MUCH, and out the nose) a former maxillofacial surgeon’s office. Sort of “fly by night” contractors (if you could even call them that) worked way over budget on time and billable hours. Some millions went into the thing when all was said and done. Somehow based on the name of the surgeon, and also because a “real German” had made the suggestion (if you know what I mean), and NOT the owner’s longtime friend who was managing the place through the 1980s. Something about Germans and purse strings loosened for the “right kind of people”.
They say “if you marry for money, expect to work for it” and I think that’s true, even of an ailing mob family from the turn of the last century.
There’s a lead up, to go with the sort of “nazism in the room” from a couple decades ago. First it was the courtesy clerk with a religious Puerto Rican name, who role modelled how to “get into shape” for that crew. Then there was Cristian, whose whole family had relocated from Silicon Valley, separated from a Hewlett-Packard-in-the-family pedigree. To role model the “fruits” of a religious system from a place the crew of that business would never go (did I mention the most powerful family around is *also* blond and blue eyed?). He was quickly given keys to “Schindler’s” office, on a name basis alone.
Repeat after me, there’s no such thing as intrinsic morality.
A blond haired and blue eyed bad suggestion is not better than an infinite amount of good ones from other people. To the tune of some very questionable business practices that existed more or less *beyond scrutiny*. These are millions of dollars in decisions over many years. After the owner’s husband had a norwegian to talk to.
We have even had, in the decade passing, a sort of firestorm with a mind to burn minority dwellings and businesses, seeming to read the tax lot system as it went, to the exclusion of white interests. (And I’m descended from one of the former controlling interests of the state, and also the seat of the “important” kkk meetings of hate’s distant past). Seems a little fishy to me. Somehow burning away from the “white” town, and through where literally all of the minority population of the region, was concentrated. Almost but not quite through the “darker” part of the larger city more distant this one. Epilogue being, as it so happened, that many couldn’t rebuilt because housing regulations regarding abutments (roads, water ways, city-right-of-way) turned out to be *retroactive*. The family home can’t be rebuilt where it was because of regulations written after it. We don’t mince words with this shit out here in the wild west.
And these assertions are in records that stand to historical fact. I don’t mean to be journaling in the public square, but all of this needs to be said. As to the business story, you have to ask since it also had a terrible problem with nepotism, “which is worse, remnant bund-nazi thinking, or the aforementioned nepotism that gave way to a “blond” hiring period?”.
Not an easy question. Turns out that (and look at Trump-Drumpf by Heinz) a nazi pedigree might have become a key that opens every door once again, but here in America and now. (And I thought my own family’s not so savory history was the worst of it, not an easy thing to do because *the other side* of my family was a large part of what sacked the Roman Empire).
Edit: A personal family curiosity, is that we’re (the non-kkk side) always the worst people we know, and able to cite laundry lists of examples, and somehow after centuries upon centuries of horrible things, we somehow meet people worse than we are. On a one on one basis.

What happens if Chris survived the bank robbery?
**************************************************************************
Five Years Later
The sun beat heavy on his bare shoulders, the skin pulling slightly with the beginnings of a sunburn. Chris tightened the final bolt then straightened, ducking out from under the reach of the truck’s hood, stretching his spine with a groan as he dropped the wrench with a clatter in with its mates then pulled a rag from his back pocket to wipe his hands.
He let the sun warm his face for a moment, eyes closed and contemplated; should he get a start on figuring out what was making the Adler’s van run so rough, or go eat lunch?
That was his life now, and he was content with it.
He’d just made up his mind, lunch first, Adler’s van second, when a new sound pierced his thoughts. Dropping his head from the sun’s warmth, he turned to look over his shoulder.
A late seventies Toyota Land Cruiser wheezed towards him. Although old, it was in decent shape, either an older restoration or just plain well cared for, but right now, it needed help. Chris watched as it wound down, seemingly like a wind-up toy petering out, and gasped one last time before stalling a few dozen feet away. All clearance lights, already dimmed, died instantly and Chris, although not a betting man, not since gambling with his life five years ago, would have laid odds on what the Toyota’s problem was.
The driver’s door opened as Chris approached and he felt a sudden jolt of electricity. Not even Erin’s kiss in that bar as they’d learned their cover had affected him like this. A woman stepped out, no… scratch that, an angel appeared.
Long auburn hair, faint strands of blond catching the sun; thick and wavy and just perfect for Chris to card his hands through. Sunglasses of probably the same vintage as the Cruiser were pushed up into that glorious mane to reveal a set of cat-shaped eyes in the most unique and breath-taking shade of lilac-grey Chris had ever seen. Faint wrinkles of worry marred the smooth heart-shaped face and then she was looking right at him and Chris felt like he’d been kicked in the guts.
“Hey- , uh. Car trouble?” He stuttered, feeling his face start to flame.
The faintest of smiles. “Yeah.”
“Sounds like your alternator.” Chris scrambled for steady ground; known terrain when the earth was practically shaking beneath his feet.
“I thought so,” she murmured, sounding resigned. She met his eyes and Chris felt a fresh jolt. “Do you think it took my battery out with it?”
A lopsided grin, the majority of people he helped had no idea what an alternator even was, let alone knew how it worked.
“I’ll check that, if you got it here fast enough, it should be okay.”
She bit her lip for a moment. “How long will it take? I have to get to work.”
“Not long, I can have it done by this afternoon if I’ve got the part laying around.”
The woman flinched slightly. “I work late, I won’t be able to come back until tomorrow.”
“That’s fine. You said you had to work? I can take you-“ Chris was babbling and he knew it, forced himself to shut up. “I mean, if you’d like.”
The faint smile again, a hint of pink in her cheeks. Maybe he wasn’t the only one being thrown off his axis right now. “I can’t ask you to do that.”
“No, it’s fine.” Chris was inexplicably terrified of losing contact with this woman and if he’d had more time to think about it, it probably would have bothered him, this sudden attachment. “I’m just heading out to lunch; I can give you a ride. Where are you going?”
Her eyes met his, that strange lilac-grey seeming to pierce into his soul. After a heartbeat, something flickered in her gaze, something Chris would swear was fear. “No, thank you.” Her voice was firm now, insistent and Chris felt an unexpected and unexplained pang of disappointment. She reached into her purse and pulled out a flip phone.
Chris stood rooted to the spot, frozen, until the woman raised her head. “Would you like me to sign anything first?” Her voice was tentative again, as if she worried she’d angered him.
Chris swallowed hard, hating that she was slipping between his fingers and at the same time, absolutely stunned that it mattered so much to him already. What the fuck is wrong with you, King? “Yeah, follow me. I’ll make out a work order.” He turned and strode into the shop, heart hammering a frantic tattoo in his chest. Reaching the counter, he grabbed the necessary paperwork and a pen. “Uh, name?”
The woman had reached the other side of the counter and now shifted her weight, almost uneasily, as if she was leery even of giving Chris her name. “Raen.” She finally answered, pronouncing it like ‘Rain’. “R A E N Casteel.”
“And a number to reach you at?”
Another pause, as if weighing her options. Chris had studied body language and received more than enough training in the F.B.I. to read this woman’s behaviour. She had been hurt by someone in the past, badly, and was either running from it still or was just permanently marked, forever cautious around strangers, especially men. His heart ached with a sudden desire to pull her close and crush away all her bad memories, show her that not all love and all men meant pain; and track down the ratfuck that had made her this way to begin with. Finally, she offered a number, chewing on her bottom lip.
“Okay,” Chris scrawled the number, mind racing as he tried to organize his thoughts. He’d never been so thrown by someone in his life, not since her. In the space of only a few minutes, he’d gone from content and hungry, his biggest decision of the day being when and what to eat, to being absolutely swept up in a mysterious woman, ready to fight for her and kiss away her sorrow. But no.
He couldn’t.
He’d fallen hard for a woman before, and it had nearly killed him. He could not do that again.
“Alright.” He cleared his throat, forcing a casual tone. “I’ll look at it and give you a call and an estimate.”
“Thank you. If I don’t answer, please leave a message.”
“Sure.”
The woman gave him one last hesitant smile, then dropped the keys on the counter, turned and almost fled the shop, the door banging closed behind her. Chris watched her hurry away and disappear around the corner.
Jesus wept.
He wanted to help her, and not just by fixing her vehicle.
As soon as his doctors discharged him from the hospital, as soon as it wasn’t abject agony to move anymore (because Chris had gone cold-turkey on all hard drugs after), he’d left the F.B.I., taking all the compensation and bonuses offered to him for his service and sacrifice. Breaking the lease on his apartment, he’d loaded his truck (not the monster he’d driven as Undercover Chris, but his own) and pointed it east, intent on leaving L.A. and California and the west coast entirely, not stopping until the icy dread that ran rampant through his veins finally ebbed and he could draw a deep breath again.
Staying in L.A. meant memories, it meant driving past old haunts and neighborhoods, remembering his shitty past and even shittier career as a Special Agent; one that had started promisingly enough, especially for a delinquent kid who had more in common with the thugs he chased than the agents who hunted them, but had cratered hard when he’d accepted his last assignment.
Deep cover, a chance to advance and take out an asshole at the same time. Dangerous, but definitely worth it; and then he’d met her.
Erin Bell, his awakening and his ruin. His rise and his downfall. In her he’d found a partner, a fellow survivor of a hellish childhood and for a time, he’d been in love. Blinded by the light, as the song went.
He’d let himself believe he could have it all, that he and Erin could give the middle finger to Silas’ gang, to the F.B.I., Sheriff’s Office and the whole fucking world and just run off together with a shit-ton of stolen money.
How wrong he’d been. At the last moment, his conscience had finally intervened, and he remembered the fright and tears in that blonde teller’s eyes as Silas had screamed at her, the abject terror in her innocent face. As he’d watched Silas drop the duffels, spewing tell-tale purple clouds and storm back into the bank, the haze had lifted from his mind and even Erin’s horrified, pleading stare hadn’t been enough to bring it back.
No one gets a fuckin’ scratch. He’d vowed, but he’d been the naïve one then.
“F.B.I.!” His words hadn’t had the desired effect, Silas hadn’t fl0undered in shock or dropped to his knees in acquiescence; it was like he’d known and, looking back, he probably had, trading Arturo for Chris at the last moment, the psycho had at least suspected someone was a mole and Chris had been the one to break cover.
The memory of the burn from the bullets was something that still woke Chris up from a dead sleep, multiple points of agony in his torso, a line of fire on his scalp. That last bullet Silas gave him, aimed as the kill shot to his skull as he lay gasping and already dying on the grimy industrial carpet of the bank; had, depending on your viewpoint, either saved or doomed Chris, missing his brain and splitting a line on his scalp instead. Silas hadn’t noticed as he’d stalked out and Chris carried that scar to this day, visible at all times because although he hated thinking about his past, he’d kept the shorn head and facial hair.
If asked, he couldn’t explain why, but maybe it really was to remember, even though he hated to. Seeing Undercover Chris, with a buzz cut and goatee everyday in the mirror was his penance. He couldn’t, he didn’t deserve to go back to the neatly-groomed man he’d been before, hair longer and fluffy and worthy of a woman running their fingers through it; he wasn’t that man anymore, for better or worse.
He’d driven until his truck had made the choice for him, quitting in this mid-sized town in New York state, lasting long enough for him to limp it into this very mechanic’s shop. A chance comment from the owner, that he needed a new mechanic, had been the catalyst for Chris to stay, at least for awhile.
As a kid, knowing through bitter experience that his own mother was an unreliable source, Chris had kept himself alive with his hands. More specifically, using his hands to fix and tinker. A few hours working on the neighbor’s broken lawnmower earned him enough to eat for a week, the car he’d traded a day’s worth of small engine work for and spent two months of weekends working on before selling to the plumber down the street helped him make it when his mother finally OD’d and he’d needed to keep himself afloat, keep the nosy housewives on the block from calling CPS and reporting a child left alone. Not that they’d have been overly concerned for Chris’ wellbeing, his mother had supported her drug habit by spreading her legs for anyone with cash or drugs, and most if not all of these women’s husbands had partaken at one time or another, meaning Chris was practically guaranteed abandonment when the real object of their fury and indignation was gone, and only her son was left to blame.
That history had been his fuel for a time, spurring him to apply for the F.B.I., encouraging and driving his ambitions to make something of himself, to be more than the fatherless son of a crack-whore.
And, for a time, he had been. He’d been more. Chosen for the assignment, entrusted with the delicate task, but he’d fucked it up, as it was in his genes to do and it still burned sometimes to think about it.
And now, working at the shop had kept him busy, tired him out enough that sometimes he was even too exhausted for the nightmares. So, when the old man had announced his retirement two years later, Chris had offered to buy the place.
For almost three years now he’d been here, running his own business, continuing and building on the shop’s reputation in town, paying Karma back with steady and honest work.
But was Raen another Erin? Another flash fire that would only leave him staggering and burned, another paradigm shift in his already jagged and torn existence?
He’d worked so hard to rebuild his life, was he ready to risk it all again?

Voltron: Global Military Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism Unit-Chapter 6: And One Step Back
Minutes have passed and yet no response has been emitted from the team. Coran couldn't care less about the poor reception from the drones. Plenty of drones have had screwed them over for the past few years. He only cared about the status of Allura and her unit. The silence was starting to send doubt and concern through his mind. Gold stared at the laptop, tensed up, with Colbert sitting next to him staring at the screen as well.
"I don't like this, sir," he said. "Should we send a QRF?"
"No," Coran replied. "I have my concerns as well but it's best we give them some time."
"But we're not getting a bloody thing. No feed, no communication, nothing. How're we supposed to know if they're even standing?"
"Have some faith, Jem," Colbert assured. "If these guys are from Voltron, then they definitely know how to get back up."
Allura's eyes opened not without sacrificing her perfectly fine eyelids. It was hard for her to come to her senses with that loud ringing noise blaring in her ears, muting everything else outside. As Allura tried to pull herself up, the burning blisters and the stinging wounds pulled her down. She let out a tight groan, slipping back to the ground. Allura was unable to get back up without having to damage a wound. Down at a distance, she noticed her rifle intact but coated by flakes of sand. Lifting her forearm forward, she crawled her way towards her rifle.
Allura couldn't see anything through the cloudy smoke surrounding the area but she could hear faint sounds of gunshots echoing and bullets zipping back and forth. Her ears began to come to their senses, disorienting her in the process. She couldn't move. The noises were holding her down like a chain locked to her ankle. As Allura covered herself while panting uncontrollably hard, she heard someone or something call out her name.
She slightly raised her hands off her head and slowly looked up. A small shadow began to emerge from the smoke and shortly, a figure ran through the puffs. She watched as a large tall figure in a black shirt and a plate frame carrier approached her, slowly revealing a scar across his face.
"Allura! Allura! You okay?" Shiro shouted.
Just as her partner arrived, she was able to hear everything, despite the setbacks from the explosion. She nodded, unable to speak with her dry, chapped mouth. Through the roaring gunshots, Shiro gave her a bit of motivation to get up and moved away to provide covering fire. Once she overcame the pain and stood on her feet, Allura held onto Shiro's shoulder who had just went up to her to help her up. She looked around, bullets shooting past clouds and no sign of their attackers. They were sitting ducks at this point.
"We gotta go! Follow me!"
Shiro stepped out of Allura's way and they both ran together, heading towards another part of the village as bullets clamber after them. If they could pull this off without dying, it would be a well deserved favor.
Ever since the explosion set off from the village, Keith was pacing around, getting riled up and worried at the same time. Lance was keeping his cool as usual while setting his sights on the village with his scope. For the last few seconds, Keith had been muttering 'shit' for about a hundred times it was starting to annoy Lance.
"Hey, mind keeping your shit together, amigo?" He demanded. "We're gonna find them. I'm sure your girlfriend is still alive."
"She's not my girlfriend, asshole!" Keith snapped.
"Just saying."
As Lance continued searching for a sight of the team, he heard a faint sound of engine rumbling from below. He looked down and noticed a white Toyota Hilux with a black flag on the side mirrors pull up near the building. The doors opened and two Jihadists armed with rifles came out, uttering orders in Arabic. From what he's seen, these terrorists are unaware of their presence. Lance opened fire at them without giving them any chance to fight back. He managed to shoot one of them dead between the eyes with one bullet. The other scrambled behind the Hilux as the bullets penetrated the hood.
Keith heard the shots and needed no explanation on why Lance was shooting. They both made their way out of the building and approached the still running Hilux. The last jihadist popped out of cover and aimed his rifle, only to be put down by Keith with a bullet to the face.
The duo moved past the truck and made their way down to the rocky road fast. They arrived at the gate where two more jihadists stood near a white Land Cruiser. Just as one of them with a pistol noticed the duo approaching them with ease, he was instantly taken out in surprise by Lance. The jihadist with a shotgun heard the gunshot and raised his weapon towards them with absolute determination. Keith shot him in the leg, causing the jihadist to land on one of his knees before a bullet went through his head. The blood splattered onto the SUV's windows as the body slid against the door.
"Guess these assholes are too busy on the rest of the team." Lance said.
As Lance approached the broken gate, Keith distanced himself away from Lance and went up to one of the dead jihadists. He began to pat his pockets for something. Lance noticed him crouched near the body and rolled his eyes.
"Keith, of all the time we have, you seriously choose to-"
Before he could speak any further, he saw a walkie talkie pulled out of the body's pockets. Keith held it close to his mouth and cleared his throat.
"أيها الإخوة ، لقد قتلنا اثنين من الكفار من الجنوب. أين البقية؟ (Brothers, we've killed two infidels from the south. Where are the rest?)"
Lance was a bit baffled at the way he spoke in a different language but he was still skeptical of whatever plan he had. Suddenly, an Arabic voice replied through static before cutting the feed. Keith wasn't really happy with the news and swore under his breath.
"They found two more of our own up ahead." Keith told him.
"Didn't know you speak Arabic, dude." Lance said.
"Yeah, and I'll tell you what I know once we find our team. Alive."
Keith attached the radio to his vest as the duo made their way past the gate and into the village of echoing gunshots and blanched smoke.
Pidge never liked calling anybody names but when she tried to grab Hunk who was knocked back by the explosion, she couldn't help but admit he had to lose a bit of weight. Her rifle ended up getting lost amidst the explosion.
"You're fucking heavy, you know that?" Pidge croaked as she pulled him up.
"Well, don't mind me. It's part of the tradition." Hunk sarcastically replied.
Pidge wanted to chuckle but her throat was too scalded to talk. Doesn't really help much when they're being tailed by radical jihadists who were catching up to them. They opened fire at them with Pidge using her pistol, although they both shot blankly thanks to the effects of being hit by a bomb. At this point, the duo decided to ditch their plans and run. As they reached down the hill, Hunk was trying to contact through his radio.
"Yellow Lion to Zero, do you read me? Over!" He panted.
Other than mind controlling static, there was nothing from them.
"Don't waste your time on it, Hunk," Pidge told him. "Those assholes must've hammered our signals."
Hunk hesitated for a moment before letting his hand off the earpiece. "Shit."
As the two continued their way down the hill, they hear footsteps close in from a distance. A group of armed jihadists with one wearing a balaclava and carrying a MAS-49, appeared from the corner of a house. Just as they saw the duo, the jihadists pointed their rifles at them. They were both considering to fight back but the chances of surviving are slim and besides, only an imbecile would be dumb enough to open fire at a group with automatic rifles while being the only two alive.
The pursuing jihadists caught up to them from behind, rendering them both outnumbered. They were all closing in, barking and bellowing while shaking their rifles at them. The duo tossed their weapons aside and raised their hands. Just as they did so, Hunk heard a whack and Pidge's body suddenly slumped to the ground. He spun around and saw one of the jihadist holding the rifle with the butt stock at the front. Before Hunk could act, the jihadist aimed his rifle where the muzzle faced directly to his nose. It was enough to freeze Hunk on the spot. As the rest of the group lifted Pidge's body up, Hunk was held with his hands behind his back and taken along with the jihadists.
Once they were certain they were in the clear, Shiro and Allura ran up to a large slab of cemented wall, with portions of it missing like it was bit off. Looked as if the terrorists blew up some of the houses. They were both desperate for a breather, they could feel their chest tightening even harder. So far, the pursuing attackers haven't caught up to them but it was only a matter of time before the duo can hold them off.
"What's your ammo count?" She asked as she checked her pistol's magazine.
Shiro checked his pouches which was empty. "Down on my last mag. You?"
"I'm on my sidearm now."
Allura looked around. Practically everywhere was a bad opening. None of the walls could provide cover since they all look like they were blown up.
"We're in a bad spot, we gotta get outta this shithole now." She said, wiping her smudged face with her exposed forearm.
"Yeah but we have no idea where the others are and the comms are down."
He had a point. They were on the verge of being screwed to a whole a new level. After a moment of silence, Shiro started chuckling. Allura looked at him in confusion.
"What the hell's so funny?"
"Still remember that one time you and me were in a situation as tight as this?" Shiro asked.
Allura paused for a moment before answering. "That was in Prague and the comms were perfectly fine."
"But we survived anyway. Those guys were well trained back then. If we can take those guys down, then we can do the same to them."
"That's bollocks and you know it."
Shortly, they heard footsteps closing in as well as chatter. It was for sure not their team since they don't speak Arabic. Shiro gave Allura a nod while holding his rifle tightly. She nodded back and retracted the slide of her pistol. Her eyes communicated with his. It was now or never. Just as they were about to pop out of cover, they heard a thump and sudden shouts from the pursuers. The voices ranged from shock and desperation and then sharp and abrupt silence. The thumps increased into a style of a drum beat. Shortly, everything went quiet and faint footsteps closed in. Shiro peered from the wall and squinted his eyes. In a distance, Keith and Lance approached them, going through the bodies of the pursuing jihadists.
Keith was the first to reach the commander. "Commander! Are you alright? Where's Major?"
"She's here," Shiro assured, just as Allura appeared from the wall. "How'd you find us?"
"We saw the explosion from the distance and we had to find you two."
"Well, we're thankful for that." Allura nodded.
"Indeed we are." Shiro said.
Keith nodded in acknowledgment. His face changed into concern as he looked around, finding something making. There was six people in total and currently there's four of them.
"Where's the others?"
"We were separated when that IED went off on us." Allura answered.
"This would be the better time to start looking for them," Said Shiro. "And if we can, find if any of the terrorists know the whereabouts of Haxus."
Without any more hesitations, the remainder of the team moved out and searched for the rest of the team. They made their way around the village where there was no sign of anyone, not even Haxus. The team headed towards the side of the village where they saw an exit from a distance. However, in front of the gates were two white Highlander's parked and the remaining group of jihadists moving Pidge and Hunk to the cars. Shiro opened fire at them first, managing to shoot one of the jihadists down and taking the rest by surprise. The jihadists took cover behind a line of crates conveniently placed in front of the cars and returned fire, prompting the team to take cover behind abandoned cars separately. One of them pushed Hunk down under the vehicles.
"الحصول على هؤلاء السجناء في الشاحنة! (Get these prisoners in the truck!)" Shiro heard one of the jihadists ordered.
The jihadists continued to rain fire at them, buying some time for two other masked jihadists to carry Pidge. Lance positioned his rifle on the boot of the car and fired automatic bursts for their heads. The two jihadists dropped to the ground like clockwork, loosening their grip on Pidge. Just before Lance could aim for the other four jihadists, the bullets ricocheted against the boot, causing him to duck under. Their firepower wasn't enough to take on the remaining fighters packed with heavy armory.
As the two jihadists dealt with the team, the other two forced Hunk into the Highlander and hopped in without skipping a beat. Keith heard the engine rumble, giving him a sudden motivation to look up to notice the car about to drive off. Despite being under heavy fire, Keith moved away from the car, clipping off a flash bang grenade from his vest. Shiro, who was beside him, tried to reach for him.
"Keith, don't!"
He slipped away from Shiro's hands and threw a flashbang at them. The explosion flashed heavily, blinding the jihadists. Keith shot them down and tried to shoot down the car. He only managed to graze the headlights and the car began to grow smaller until it was nowhere to be seen.
"Fuck!" Keith cursed, forcefully yanking the rifle down.
The rest of them watched in disbelief, including Lance. Hunk was taken away and it was Allura's only responsibility to make sure none of them were hurt. It was all tearing down into the drain.
Keith turned around and approached Pidge's unconscious body lying near the dead jihadists. Shiro crouched by her side while Lance and Allura kept watch. Keith called her name first before shaking her by the shoulders. Once Pidge finally opened her eyes, she instantly squirmed and wrestled her grip off Keith.
"Get off me! Get off me!"
"Easy! Easy, Kate! It's us!" He assured.
Pidge eventually realized and started to relax. Her chest heaved rapidly as she panted.
"It's alright. You're fine." Keith told her.
She didn't pay attention to what he said. Pidge's was too busy looking around the area, noticing something missing. She looked at Keith who shared a glance of disbelief.
"Where's Hunk?"
Haxus, former army ranger turned Galra terrorist lieutenant looked down at his watch which was marked 19:52 hours, one hour over the suggested time.
"They're supposed to be here by now. What's taking them so long?" He murmured.
"Maybe they're a bit busy, sir?" His bodyguard, Bogh, standing next to him answered.
Haxus scoffed. "I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually the Voltron unit. Such amateurs."
Bogh didn't reply afterwards. He's probably one of the sane operatives he had met so far. Maybe Haxus should be surprised. Straight from the Special Forces Ranger Battalion, Bogh was one of his experienced teammates of his unit. The others weren't so steady but more radically influenced, especially the recently deployed Lahn from the Armenian Forces.
In Haxus' eyes, Voltron is just a ragtag team with a bunch of idiots and incompetent soldiers who think they're doing the world a favour by trying to ruin their plans. They don't even understand what and why they do this. His old army had the same ideas, probably the reason he decided to blow them and his brother up for the sake of joining the Galra Empire.
As they watch several armed fighters with equipment smuggled from their associates in Russia come and go, a white Highlander drove into the village. However, it was just one car. They sent more fighters to that location. Once the Highlander parked near Haxus, the fighters hopped out. Only two of their loyal ones, Barad and Fakhoury were present.
"What happened? Where's the rest of the team?" Haxus asked.
"We manage to ambush the western devils," Fakhoury answered while Barad lifted his ski mask off. "But they wiped out the majority of our brothers. We're the only two who survived but we were able to capture one of their men."
"Well, that's a shame but I'll take it. Show me the guy you caught."
Barad went up to the back of the car and pulled something out. Once he managed to get him out, Barad was holding a man with a beard in a beige t-shirt with rolled up sleeves, covered by a plate carrier. His face was smeared with dirt and bruises. Haxus raised an eyebrow in amusement and surprise mainly because of his looks. Barad pushed him onto his knees while Fakhoury assisted.
"Well, what a surprise you brought me, boys," he said, bending down and getting a closer look. "Never seen a Samoan like you in Voltron before. You're probably lucky to be here. What's your name?"
The man didn't reply other than glare at him. When he didn't answer, Haxus looked up at Barad, asking for his name.
"We heard one of his comrades call him Hunk." He said.
Haxus was rather surprised and found it funny. "Hunk? That's a weird name for a Samoan. What's your mother's name, is it Slab?"
The man, Hunk continued glaring at him. He seemed offended by his joke.
"Silent one, I see. Well, it's not like I'm here to have a joke with you. But I'm sure the commander will be delighted to see you. So until then…"
Haxus pulled out a magazine from the pouch on his vest and slammed it to his temple. Barad threw the unconscious body aside. "Get some rest. You deserve it."
The men stared at him, waiting for further orders. Haxus stood up while slipping his magazine back into his pouch.
"Put him in the cage with the women and get ready to pull out. We rather not let his friends catch up.

What Kind of Car Museum Would You Start with Unlimited Money?
In tiny Punta Gorda, Florida, just outside of Fort Myers, a 300-car collection of classics fills Rick Treworgy's Muscle Car City Museum. Neon fuel and tire signs line the walls and a brightly-lit floor is jam-packed with several decades' worth of pristine vehicles. If you like to immerse yourself in vintage art on wheels, You may also like: x431 v+. this is your happy place; it's definitely one of mine.In the world of smaller, local auto museums, it's not uncommon for these places to be the passion project of a single person rather than a collective effort. So, that's what I'm wondering today. Say you're handed a blank check with the mandate to build the car museum of your dreams. What's the plan? Do you build the world's largest private VW collection like VolkyLand? A class like Treworgy and his muscle cars? A time period like the Brass Era experts at Maine's Seal Cove Auto Museum? While you're thinking, I've got a few other spots to recommend for a visit or virtual inspiration.Given its status as one of the true global vehicles and a generational workhorse, you'd think Toyota would honor it justly in its own official heritage museum in Japan. But Greg Miller, the former CEO of the Utah Jazz and a major Land Cruiser nerd, was shocked when he took a tour a number of years ago and found his favorite truck conspicuously absent from the displays. He responded like any rational (and rich) person would, by setting out to build his own museum for it.The result is Utah's Land Cruiser Heritage Museum, the world's largest private collection of Toyota Land Cruisers tucked away in an unassuming Salt Lake City warehouse. The Drive was lucky enough to visit last fall and actually get behind the wheel of a few of them-a 1977 FJ40, a 1977 FJ55, a 1984 FJ60, a 1991 FJ80 and a 2004 UJZ100-as all 100+ trucks are kept in driving condition. If you're at all interested by this point, I can't recommend this place enough. Miller's got some truly obscure Land Cruisers in there, everything from Japanese fire truck conversions to oddball two-door specs from all over the globe. My father got me started on Clive Cussler adventure novels when I was in college, and I was hooked in the swashbuckling save-the-world characters Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino. One of my dad's favorite features was that in every one of Cussler's books, the characters were driving some kind of obscure and fantastic vehicle in a chase with the bad guys. The first was a 1936 Maybach Zeppelin Town Car in The Mediterranean Caper and one I loved is the 1931 Marmon V16.Cussler obviously loved cars, too, and what started as his private collection has become Colorado's Cussler Museum, typically open between May and October in Arvada, just outside of Denver. About 60 cars are on display at any given time, including stars like a 1921 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost, 1925 Isotta Fraschini, 1932 Stutz DV32 Town Car, and a 1936 Pierce Arrow V12 Berlin. At some point Cussler's publisher started adding photos of the author posing with one of the stars of his growing automobile collection, and I looked forward to seeing that as much as I enjoyed the storylines. Pure escapism. Cussler himself was quite a character in his early years; on the museum site, he tells the story about the black 1925 Auburn limousine he bought for $18.00 and drive it to football games, where he and his friends would show up dressed like 1940s-era gangsters and carrying beer and wine past the security guards in a violin case.Cussler passed away earlier this year, but his automobile museum lives on, though it's currently closed due to the pandemic.Peter Mullin is past chairman and current board member of the Petersen Automotive Museum and president of the American Bugatti Club. He's well known as a supporter concours events around the world, including the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. There's no question this American businessman knows his cars, and he channeled that passion into founding the Mullin Automotive Museum in 2010.The museum is focused around a large collection of his vintage Bugattis, many of which fully restored and ready to be driven, if you could be so lucky. It has been closed for several ...

When this sort of a trouble ensues we, at Bloomfield Key Replacement, in Bloomfield NJ, are utterly experienced to administer all patterns of vehicle key, lock or ignition malfunctions on premises.
Toyota transponder key is especially decoded to activate an explicit vehicle and our qualified employees can cut and program Toyota flip-key, transponder, sidewinder or Tibbe keys, and moreover repair, install or replace any type of ignition, keys and locks on-the-spot 24 seven.
About Toyota key lock infrastructure
Toyota car brand was designed by the Japanese manufacturer of cars Toyota in Toyota Aichi. The brand was 1st distributed in the U.S.A in 1937 as common cars. Since 1998  Toyota models employ  transponder keys that may be copied in a budget and convenient procedure, although contemporary models utilize encrypted transponders that must be programmed to the vehicle utilizing an appropriate diagnostic devices and if all keys are lost, the vehicle computer unit must be re boot.
Contemporary models beginning from  2007 consistently arrayed with the modern hi-tech Smart Key System keyless entry with traits as push-button start, blind spot info and keyless entry instruments.
Ignition switch repair
The Toyota ignition lock utilize 3 positions that activate different instrument when the driver turn the key. The ignition cylinder will activate the electronic accessories on the first stage, activate the fuel injection on the second stage and fire up the car engine on the third stage.
A noticeably common question people ask us over the phone to assist with, is diagnosing ignition  problems. Even though our agent are generally ecstatic to tackle and help in diagnosis your situation, it can be pretty hard to render over the phone. On top of carrying dedicated Toyota diagnostic and lock pick tools, an elemental proficiency of how car ignition  function is required, but before you call an ignnition locksmith please check the options below:
No dash board lights
If you turn the key in ignition on but have no lights turn on on the instrument panel which in fact means that there is no electrical power running from the car battery. It might be A deflated battery or maybe even a bad alternator or electronic wiring connection could cause this. Turn on the front lights, if they wont light up, means the battery has no power which is a job for a  electrician.
Key will not turn in ignition
Exceedingly all car accommodate a steering column locking mechanism that is being locked when ever you pull the ignition key out of the switch  when you finish each drive. Some times, the steering wheel can lock in a position that creates strain to the ignition , and averts the key from turning (when you park on a hill) or when one of the front wheels is depressed against an obstacle (like sidewalk edge).
Note - Before you start troubleshooting this issue, please verify that your vehicle shifting gear is on park.
Hold the  wheel and try to shift the  steering wheel to the sides right and left and back and forth during lightly shake right and left the ignition  key - this might help to release the steering lock.
The ignition cylinder is remarkably important element of any vehicle and consisting of manifold tiny components that can be wearisome to diagnose by an unqualified personal, so the only thing you advised to do suffering from ignition  problems is to verify you are actually trying to start up your very own vehicle and call a car lock-smith to come out to your juncture to repair, reprogram  replace the key or ignition which will priced as about $160–$360.
Transponder chipped key make
Stylish car equipped with engine control unit and car keys are paired with discrete chip found stashed inside the crest of the key or on the blade (in vehicle anti theft system) keys. When the chipped key is put in the ignition key-pit, the transponder chip send an exclusive code for the immobiliser to be recognized. Without this appropriate authorization code, the motor vehicle will not burst.
When a driver lose or want to duplicate his key, the transponder should be decoded with the same code so it would be designated by the immobiliser.
Several automobile manufacturers models and years present dash-board foundation for addition of keys, though if all keys are lost, the car main computer should be reprogrammed by appropriate programming machine owned by a locksmith or the dealership.
Toyota keyless entry
Keyless entry device remotes, also called (RKE or RKS) allow owners to unlock and lock their car or truck remotely besides alternative features like opening the trunk or kindling the front-facing fog lights to raise visibility in cold weather or at night. Also, a lot of the modernized keys integrate remote starting feature that is turnning to be mandatory on contemporary models.
Mightily all smartkeys integrate a proximity-detector-based infrastructure that is light up when the keyless entry found within a explicit range of the car. This Keyless entry are handsfree which means that the vehicle can be locked and unlocked or deactivate and turn over the car ignition without owners input.
Copy vs lost car keys
The good old days of making a vehicle key by having a low cost mechanical blankey and cut at a walmart or a home depot store by the vehicle ID number are way behind us. Exceedingly all contemporary cars equipped either with transponder keys and immobiliser as well as smartkeys and push button start ignition.
The keys accommodate an assembled chip which interacts with the vehicle ECM in the motor vehicle. If the car computer system doesn't recognize the key, the vehicle does not start.
This contemporary electrical locks and key structure integrate additional convenience and security and is pretty helpful anti theft structure, but outplacing them if they get broken or stolen should be done by the dealer or a mobile locksmith with a unique Toyota diagnostic machinery and key programmer and generally can be pricey.
24 hour car lock out
If you locked yourself out of your vehicle, you enter the right article. Our  car lock out ervice can assist you in popping each and every kind of truck, SUV, car or van easily with no hardship to electrical wiring, the power locks, door frame or windows. Sometimes, in situations that you need a key extraction or a lost key made service utilizing cutters, diagnostic equipment and programmers. Instead of using the service of a towing-truck to tow your vehicle to the dealer, we hire an emergency lock-smith workshop on wheels who is adequate to drive to your location to help you out of your pain onsite.
Car locks rekeying

10 Justifiably Discontinued Cars (and 10 SUVs We’d Love to See Back)
It’s Never Nice to See a Car Go – Unless it’s Garbage, Of Course
Every year, automakers are faced with the decision as to which models will be built during the upcoming model years. A lot of things go into such decisions, but profitability and sales volume are huge determiners. If a vehicle isn’t performing well enough in its market and re-styling won’t save it, it’s bound to find itself in the company of countless discontinued cars which grows year in – year out.
It’s an annual dance that automotive manufacturers go through trying to determine what in their lineup will yield the most profit and what is dragging them down. Actually it’s not even that clear cut.
The ultimate objective is to maximize profit and the easiest part of that is to dump a dog. However there are riskier decisions that may involve discontinuing a solid performer in order to promote a newcomer with great potential or dropping an up and comer from the brand altogether to give it a chance to stand on its own. These are mega dollar decisions and the reason for so many empty Maalox bottles in the executive suites.
But, what does that mean for the average consumer? Usually, it means that the models to be discontinued will be discounted. Dealers will be having fire sales to clear their lots and make room for new inventory. The later in the calendar year, the steeper the discounts will become.
First off, we’ll start with a list of long or recently discontinued SUVs that most people would like to see back, and then we’ll move on to some relatively recently discontinued cars, trucks, and SUVs that we might see again after a while or might not see ever again depending on myriad of factors.
10 Discontinued SUVs Everyone Wants to See Back
Reuters and other sources have suggested that Ford, for instance, sees U.S. car market’s future stacked with SUVs. According to them, SUVs will amount to 40 percent of the entire market by 2020, and they see it as perfect opportunity to expand their SUV portfolio.
Of course, first thing that comes to mind when crossing Blue Oval and SUV is the good old Bronco. It really didn’t take a genius to put two and two together and figure out this was the prime time to do so. But, while the iconic nameplate is getting ready to rise and shine again, others aren’t as lucky.
Considering how SUVs seem to be the future of the car markets for foreseeable time, it’s a no-brainer to take a look at some iconic SUV nameplates that were either discontinued a long time ago or relatively recently. Some of them exhibit a serious potential for making a comeback soon (some have already been announced), while others are just wishful thinking but who knows what the future might bring.
10. Hummer
Let us start with one of the more obvious choices. H1, H2, H3 -it doesn’t really matter. All three generations of the Hummer were highly sturdy and capable, and more or less intertwined. One didn’t simply end for another to take swing. The Hummer H1 was available since 1992 and the H3 bowed down in 2010 after the global recession did its part.
Tumblr media
This is one of the reasons the Hummer was so special. But everyone that knows about these cumbersome beasts, also knows that they used to offer much more than simply special. Plus, since global recession is more or less behind us, there are no more genuine reasons for them not to be produced.
09. Mitsubishi Pajero
The current Mitsubishi SUV lineup (or Mitsubishi lineup in general) is nowhere near that from 10 or 20 years ago. They are, however, heading in green direction at least – I’ll give them that.
Regardless, the Mitsubishi Pajero (badged as Montero in the States) is still regarded as one of the best vehicles that Japanese manufacturer has managed to assemble. Of course, the Montero had been gone from the U.S. for over a decade now (being discontinued in 2006), but we haven’t forgotten it. Have you?
The Pajero is still alive overseas where it’s still selling better than it ever did in the U.S. Incidentally, low sales (1,609 units in 2006 compared to 24,802 units in 2001) were exactly the reason for its discontinuation.
Tumblr media
08. Land Rover Defender
It’s unrealistic to expect the Land Rover returning to their roots with the Defender, but that doesn’t mean we wouldn’t like that. It wasn’t that long they discontinued it, but let’s face it – newer models weren’t the true Defenders for years now anyway.
Their current lineup of SUVs is highly capable and correspondingly luxurious, and there’s simply no place for a bare-bone SUV of old. But, imagine if they actually made one. Of course, it would have been stacked with all the necessary tech, but it wouldn’t have to be as plush as the others. That would help lowering the cost one has to pay in order to drive a Landy. It’s a win win situation in my book.
The next-gen Defender has been announced for model year 2020 and, more importantly, will finally again be available stateside. How the old school sturdiness and new age technology fuse in it, remains to be seen. The last time Defender was available on the U.S. market, Bill Clinton was still in the office. Its short stint on the U.S. market (between 1993 and 1997) was cut due to low profitability.
Tumblr media
07. Nissan Xterra
It’s only been a few years without the Nissan Xterra in the markets, but people looking for extreme sturdiness and reliability (at relatively affordable prices) are already missing that SUV. Most of its current or former owners will attest to its indestructibility and capability alike, and there were many who bought it between 1999 and 2015.
Xterra, however, was simply outdated in 2015 when it finally got the axe and that severely affected its sales. It’s not the only Nissan’s vehicle to suffer from the same negligence, but while the Frontier still soldiers on, the SUV is now gone. Given the fact SUV craze is still in its full swing (or yet to take the full swing), we wouldn’t be surprised to see it return. And we certainly wouldn’t mind.
Tumblr media
06. Jeep Wagoneer
The Jeep Wagoneer rumors aren’t that scarce or strange. They have been circulating for a while now, and they make sense. Jeep still lacks the true flagship three-row SUV, and the new Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer would be the perfect choice to fill that slot.
Of course, it would probably look much different than we remember it, but the nameplate is what matters. That and exterior wooden panels. Of course, the latter has very slim chance of returning, but it’s our right to dream, isn’t it? The Wagoneer first appeared in 1963 and finally got retired in 1991, making it the longest-running domestic vehicle to be built on the same platform. Being a gas-guzzler (11 mpg combined) during the Gulf War oil shock is the main reason behind its discontinuation.
Although still not official, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer nameplates have been confirmed for a comeback sometime beyond 2020. That’s great news indeed, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Tumblr media
05. Willys Jeep CJ
It’s been a while since this one was discontinued, but it’s impossible to forget an icon, and Willys Jeep certainly was one. A 42 year long stint of production between 1944 and 1986 only bolsters that statement. Jeep finally discontinued the offspring of the WWII veteran in order to make way for a more contemporary YJ Wrangler.
Of course, it’s impossible to expect the old school bare-boned SUV in a modern era where safety regulations play such an important role. Still, if Wrangler manages, why wouldn’t one slightly rougher version do the same? Moreover, there’s some empty space in Jeep’s portfolio since the Patriot has been discontinued and the Compass might not be long for this world.
Tumblr media
04. Chevrolet Blazer
Also known as GMC Jimmy, the Chevy Blazer is one of the best known U.S.-made SUVs to date. Sadly, it hasn’t been around for quite some time. The Blazer first appeared in 1969 and finally got axed in 1995 when it was renamed Tahoe. It was simply a victim of a new corporate strategy which is an anti-climactic end for such a beloved nameplate.
Of course, we now have the Chevy Tahoe and the GMC Yukon, but the second generation Blazer which lasted for almost 20 years is still sorely missed. The Blazer simply had that X factor which its successors lack. It’s similar with Blue Oval’s Bronco and Expedition comparison.
Now, I know that Blazer has made its comeback for MY 2019, but that’s not the Blazer I was referring to above. The new model might be sporty and plushy, but aside from name, doesn’t have anything to do with its iconic predecessor.

03. Toyota FJ Cruiser
Yet again, a car which was axed not so long ago. The Toyota FJ cruiser retired in 2014 (2016 overseas), and left Wrangler as the only rugged, old school off-road SUV on the U.S. market (until the new Bronco finally arrives, that is). Slow sales which never recuperated after the global recession of 2008-09 were the main reason for its discontinuation.
The Japanese are still selling Land Cruisers, but they simply can’t be compared with the compact FJ Cruiser. The FJ had that X factor. That something that made it special. Maybe it were the circular headlamps, or the overall boxy appearance, but I sure wish it was still here.

02. GMC Typhoon
The GMC Typhoon was always different than the rest of SUVs marketed at the time. Two year long production (between 1991 and 1993) and fewer than 5,000 units produced wasn’t exactly the lifespan you’d wish to a car, but the Typhoon was actually meant to be limited. Being a special-edition vehicle, the Typhoon’s life was naturally short and there were no particular reasons for its discontinuation other than that.
It was a performer, and performance-oriented SUVs weren’t really a thing back in early nineties. They are becoming that now, and GMC has something to think about. It’s an expensive process introducing a new SUV to the market – especially a performance-oriented one – but at least they have the name standing ready.

01. Bronco
Considering all the fuss surrounding it, the Bronco is arguably the most wanted comeback vehicle out there. The Expedition is nice and tough, but the Bronco nameplate has some backbone to it that rarely any other SUV nameplate has. Whether it’s the compact models (1965 to 1977) or full-size units (1977 to 1996), the Broncos were highly appreciated among the U.S. buyers. It was a sad day when the Bronco was finally discontinued in favor of a 4-door Expedition which was Blue Oval’s answer to competition – mainly that from GM.
Ford doesn’t have to sell it in white if that’s their problem with the car, but showing some love would be appreciated by everyone – especially by buyers. Come to think of it, a white-exclusive OJ Edition wouldn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing. Just saying.
Anyway, that was my state of mind a few years back and now that the Bronco is finally making a comeback, there’s a sense of nervousness permeating the air around it. What if they screw it up?! Hopefully, the new Bronco will be a different sort of SUV than the new Blazer.

Relatively Recently Discontinued Cars We Might or Might Not See Again
Let’s now focus on some recently discontinued models that we probably won’t be seeing ever again. Some of them, however, have already had a similar stint so not all is lost in their cases. So, say your goodbyes to the ones that are gone and say your prayers for the ones that still might appear.
Volkswagen Touareg
The Volkswagen Touareg was introduced for the 2004 model year. It arrived on an early wave of the craze for upscale crossovers. The Touareg is sportier and more luxurious than most mainstream SUVs, but doesn’t really standout from the other upscale models.
Unfortunately for the Touareg’s future, the added luxury priced it out of many buyers’ range. VW is not going to abandon the segment altogether, though. The company is introducing the Atlas for 2018. The Atlas is being manufactured in North America and is more affordably priced than the Touareg.
While we probably won’t be seeing Touareg in the U.S. any more, it needs to be noted that the nameplate is still very much alive in the rest of the World.

Buick Verano
The life of the Buick Verano has been short (less than 5 years). The first Veranos hit dealerships for the 2012 model year. True to the basic nature of Buick, the Verano was a very comfortable entry-level luxury sedan.
The Verano, unfortunately, is but one victim of the ever-changing tastes of car buyers. Small car sales are down across the North American market. Instead of offering another sedan, Buick plans to fill the niche with the Encore compact crossover SUV, a model that is already popular among buyers and made its debut alongside the now-discontinued sedan back in 2012.
It’s also worth mentioning that the Verano name is still very much active in China.

Chevrolet SS
The Chevy SS is another car with a short life span. Introduced in 2014, the full-size SS crossed the ocean from Australia. GM subsidiary Holden designed the SS as a sporty rear-wheel-drive alternative to the Impala.
The SS offered 415 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque and was fun drive in spite of its size. Sadly, it wasn’t marketed particularly well. Very few people even knew of its existence, let alone wanted to pay the $50,000 sticker price.
Around 13,000 units have been sold over almost five years of sleeper’s tenure on the market. Still, if there was any car that deserved to remain being offered as a niche vehicle, this would be the one. In Australia, the Holden Commodore SS was downsized and is still being offered (continually since 1978).

Volkswagen CC
Introduced in 2009, the Volkswagen CC was a stylish and well-equipped entry-level luxury sedan. Despite its wide array of equipment and solid dependability, the four-door CC was also VW’s lowest-volume car.
Sales started declining rapidly after 2011 and never showed any signs of recuperating, hence the upscale sedan was axed in 2017. They were actually so bad that, at one point, VW sold 40 Jettas for every CC that left a dealer’s lot. VW remains hopeful that it can gain a foothold in the near-luxury four-door market, however.
The Germans will be replacing the CC with the Arteon, but even that business didn’t go down without complications as the new car missed its intended U.S. market train due to complications with emissions testings.

Chrysler 200
All that can be said about the demise of the Chrysler 200 is: “it was about time!” This lackluster replacement for the equally lackluster Chrysler Sebring has needed to be axed since its inception in 2011. This finally happened in 2017.
Sales were decent, but many owners and potential buyers felt the cheap feeling interior and boring styling were disappointing. The sedan segment was just too crowded for poor styling and cheap interiors. Fiat Chrysler had the common sense to put this donkey to bed and add production capability to meet demands for its truck and SUV lines.
However, this move has left the Chrysler lineup seriously shallow with only the Pacifica minivan and the 300 sedan still on the books.
Tumblr media
Smart Fortwo
Mercedes-Benz dabbled in the small economy car niche with the Smart Fortwo. These strange-looking cars hit the roads in 2008 and immediately began disappointing buyers. Tiny, unstable-looking, and short on fuel economy, the Smart Fortwo proved to be short on smart and barely able to fit two.
Mercedes-Benz has decided to drop the gasoline versions after the 2017 model year, but will keep the Electric Drive version. Maybe as an all-electric, this urban crawler will finally find its niche. On the other hand, it’ll require some serious progression in terms of its own electric technology if it’s to avoid the gasoline model’s fate.
Tumblr media
Infiniti QX70
When the Infiniti QX70 hit the market in 2003 as the Infiniti FX, sales went wild. The QX70 was a radically curvaceous temptress when everything around her was boxy and staid. Unfortunately, sales have been sagging since the 2005 model year and the mid-size luxury SUV was finally dropped in 2018.
To be fair, there was a bit of an economic downturn between 2008 and 2012 to contend with, but sales have never hit an uptick. Infiniti is replacing the QX70 with a totally restyled QX50. With the crossover and SUV fever that has been sweeping the globe for several years, we may be seeing a retooled version of the QX70 in the not-too-distant future.

Dodge Viper
The loss of the Dodge Viper is the saddest thing we have ever had to type. Chrysler introduced the Dodge Viper in 1992 when its lineup contained more junk than a scrap yard. The only thing Chrysler was selling in 1992 were minivans and a few boxy, underwhelming cars. Then, all of a sudden and completely out of nowhere, the V10 Viper hit the pavement.
Buyers started to get excited about a Chrysler product for the first time in decades. Unfortunately, profits per unit have always been minimal. Fiat Chrysler is in need of every dollar of profit possible, so the Viper is being axed.
Even worse, there are no plans to replace it with another car of note and it’s already been a while since the FCA discontinued the Viper in 2017. So with that, we say goodbye to one of the most iconic American sports cars to date. Of all the cars to be discontinued in recent years, this one definitely breaks our hearts the most.
Tumblr media
Jeep Patriot
The Jeep Patriot and the Jeep Compass debuted side-by-side as part of the 2007 model year lineup. The Patriot has stuck around for a decade with very few changes or upgrades. Tired and dated are about the only things that can be said about it. It was finally dropped in 2017 in order to make way fro the new Renegade.
When it debuted, the Patriot was the only compact crossover that sported bona fide off-road skills when equipped with the “Trail Rated” 4×4 system. Jeep has made a terrible waste of a potential sales monster by allowing it to lament in near stagnation. Oh, about the Jeep Compass…it gets a major redesign and a fresh marketing campaign to ensure its continued success.

Cadillac ELR
Just because your badge is upscale does not mean you can take a low end vehicle, dress it up, slap a badge on it and make it an upscale vehicle that people will buy. Unfortunately that’s what Cadillac did with its version of the Chevy Volt (remember Cimarron?).
Not only was the all-electric poorly conceived, it was also launched when Tesla introduced its spectacularly successful Model S. The $75,000 price tag for the ELR put a real blanket on potential sales. On the plus side, so few were manufactured that they may become a collectible based on rarity.
The ELR was only available between 2014 and 2016 and the company managed to sell close to 3,000 units during that time.

FCA Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country
Soccer Moms and car pool drivers are going to have to find another mode of transport when their existing Caravans and Town & Country vans need to be replaced. These seven passenger minivans with not so great fuel efficiency are the victims of a general reduction in demand and FCA’s shrinking share of the market that is there.
The hope was that the redesigned Chrysler Pacifica will fill the minivan needs of both Dodge and Chrysler customers and so far the Pacifica has delivered.
Dodge versions, as you remember, debuted back in late 1983 and are still being sold for the time being, while the Chrysler Town & Country arrived in late 1989 and disappeared in 2016.

And so ends our list of inglorious discontinued cars from recent years. We bid a fond adieu to a couple and wonder why a few others aren’t listed as well? Oh well, something to look forward to in coming years! Speaking of which, this list will be constantly updated with new discontinued models so don’t forget to check back and reminisce about them.

While Americans are used to enormous bus-like emergency vehicles, things are different in other parts of the world. Case in point is this 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser fire truck, which was a real emergency vehicle in Japan. Its owner, Brian Corsetti, recently visited Jay Leno's Garage to talk about the vehicle. Corsetti is somewhat of a Land Cruiser... Sean Szymkowski1989 Toyota Land Cruiser fire truck visits Jay Leno's Garage http://bit.ly/2U7gZjX
