Propaganda Under Cut

Allura

Lots of people (myself included tbh) ship klance (Keith and Lance). In s8 the creators made Allura/Lance canon (but then they killed her off and left the ending ambiguous it was weird). Anyway the fandom treats her like she's the most terrible bitchy woman ever but all she wants to do is end the war and avenge her destroyed home planet. Yeah she wasn't always the nicest or always the best, but you could argue some other characters in the show aren't either and they aren't treated near as bad as allura. people really just hate her bc Lance liked her. I don't think allura/lance are good together, but I still liked her as a character and thought she was interesting and had a lot of growth during the show. she DEF is not evil like some people portray her as in fic or talk about her in captions on posts. I've seen people say that they HATE her and that she's the worst and I'm like ??? let her live (well sort of ig she is dead now). lots of fic writers use her as the villain which is so interesting to me bc the show literally has villains like use them. anyway allura so perfectly fits the bracket description she deserves better.

I hate to acknowledge my time in this fandom but I hate the way the fandom treated her more. Allura was treated like shit no matter what side of the Great Ship War you were on because she was always a threat to the biggest ships (klance and sheith). At best she got put into Background Lesbian or Consolation Prize Shallura (Space Mom-zoned) (She was not a motherly figure btw. She was just Black). At worst she was violently demonized for being ~racist~ (kinda not cool with the alien race that blew up her planet for a few episodes), complete with misogynistic language hurled at her (she got called a bitch sooo much). Allura was a good and cool character and the show did her dirty but the fandom was somehow worse.

i apologise for speaking the dark magicks, but amidst the voltron fandoms many, many transgressions, there were a particular subset of people who just hated this girl. the infamous klance wars of the 2010s kept this perfectly fine childrens cartoon character in the sights of shippers everywhere, and she (and her voice actress im sure) were subjected to years of petty squabble blown up to global perportions. ive seen hate, ive seen rants, ive seen fanfics that made her homophobic. girls been through the ringer, and even though voltron was never the show its fandom wanted it to be, i believe allura deserved better

Every Supernatural Woman

Supernatural is so mean to women and committed to queerbaiting but it still gives Sam and Dean lovers to kill. The writers kill and villainize them and the fans get the few that remain

wincest and destiel shippers cannot handle the idea of their blorbos having a Woman THREATENING their SHIPS god FORBID

It literally used to be a running joke that if a female character got introduced you knew she was going to die soon because fans would react so negatively to her "stealing" one of the boys away from the big ship, whether it be destiel or wincest

Dreadful Valentine's Day to you all! I hope someone rips out your heart and uses it as a decoration in their bedroom during this beloved holiday! 💔 🔪

So I, Kara (@remusjohnslupin) one of the mods here at @weylersource, decided to create a chill, straightforward event to celebrate our favourite totally healthy and wholesome insane couple.

SO WHAT'S THIS ABOUT?

The concept is simple. Under this post, you will find prompts assigned to each specific day leading up to the Valentine's Day, on which day we post or share something related to that theme. It can be anything: gifsets, fanfiction, fanart, graphic.

WHAT IF YOU'RE NOT A CONTENT-MAKER?

That's okay! If you're not a content creator, you can share a passage from a book or a quote you read that reminded you of Wyler and that specific prompt. Or you can make a compilation, or a playlist! Basically, all content form is welcome during this event.

ABOUT PARTICIPATION

Lastly, it should go without saying but, of course you don't have to participate every single day and post something for every prompt to be a part of this event.

I need to I need to rant about this friggen spn finale. And not because of the finale-- but because of the fandom. Ya’ll are killing me.

Why does everyone seem so surprised that this show ended with Sam and Dean? This show has always been about the two of them-- It started with them, it makes sense that it would end with them-- and the whole friggen middle was about them, too. Were Cas and Jack a huge part? Yes. Obviously. But everyone in the show acknowledged that if push came to shove the brothers would always choose each other over the world. The whole ordeal with Chuck only proved that-- they only sacrificed each other after the had sacrificed the world-- they had nothing left to give up but their relationship. Thats the only reason they offered it.

Also-- no offence, this show has always, always prioritized platonic love over romantic? If Destiel became canon, Castiel would have died within the next episode or so because that's what happens to all the love interests ever. And this is also my problem with wincest-- it would have never been romantic. The main emotions of this show have never been romantic. The only time they ever were was with Jess and she literally died in the first episode.

Also also, their endings were very fitting? Deans happy ending was to live his life with Sam, and he did. Sam’s happy ending was to live a normal life. He did. And in the end, they both were together in Heaven. (not as soul mates, because jack ripped down the walls and stuff buts thats a diff discussion) This is the only way they would have both managed to get their happy ending, and be together in the end.

Obviously, the finale had its problems. But yall are acting like this finale was the worst thing in the world. Like they completely uprooted the whole point of the show. Chill. Thats not the problem with it. Its like, the opposite-- Cass is with Jack, Dean is with Sam, everybody’s happy. I love vanilla but this is like, the classic metaphoric vanilla ending.

The whole relationship between the brothers is Sam learning to Prioritize Dean’s form of love-- his co-dependency and over protectiveness, while Dean learns to respect Sam’s form of love, a little more independent and based on trust. Instead they both get their form of love, instead of giving it up to show that they love each other more than they love their... love. I hope that made sense.

Thus, they both get what they want and don’t have to give up a part of themselves for each other. Its too much cake.

Regardless, it was still a fairy tale level of happy endings.

There was literally no other way to end the show, and adding a secondary relationship, like cas and/or jack would have taken away from the fact that the show has always been about them. The only time they came close to introducing a secondary relationship was when they showed Bobby, but even then he was just there to explain the perfectness of haven. He was a good character choice for that role because he was important to Dean, but that role wasn’t created because of his importance to Dean.

I keep reading posts about how the theme was found family-- also lies. This show was never about Found family or real family-- It’s A Terrible Life (Dean Smith and Sam Wesson ep) shows us that its not about how they’re related by blood-- it’s just because they’re Sam and Dean. Sam and Dean choose each other over their parents too. Blood has nothing to do with it. Cass and Jack show that it’s not about found Family. because they choose each other over that too. and Adam shows us it’s not about brotherly love.

So in the end, obviously it was going to end with Sam and Dean. Other than Bobby and like, child dean, no one else is in the episode. Because it’s not about romance, and its not about family, it’s about Sam and Dean. It’s always been about Sam and Dean. When did people lose sight of this?

why do you enjoy incest on succession

ok obviously this is bait, but it's actually an interesting topic as someone who is both a roman roy succession fan AND a supernatural fan who blocks w*ncesties on sight!!

so first thing out of the way since im answering this ask i feel like i have to explicitly state that i obviously do not ENJOY incest 😭 in any way. in succession, in supernatural, in fuckin... idk. hamlet. if i see u fetishizing incest like. obvi post whatever u want, it's a free internet. but i will be blocking u bc i think ur kind of weird and icky. and i dont want to be associated with you. hard anti-incest stance on this blog, as i think ive made clear many many times in the past. ok from here on out, major trigger warning for discussion of incest as a theme in both supernatural and succession.

i do think the difference in the way supernatural vs succession fandom is able to discuss the incestuous undertones of their respective shows is really interesting! succession fans talk a lot about roman specifically wrt incest i think in a way that avoids fetishizing it. supernatural fans, on the other hand, have a more complex relationship with the topic. supernatural itself, like succession, DOES include allusions to incest. howeverrr i think it's worth pointing out that usually when this happens, it's a direct response to wincest fans (see: the sam/dean cosplayers at the supernatural con being a couple). this is to say that supernatural's textual discussion of incest is (initially) almost exclusively metacommentary or jokes about fans of the show shipping the two brothers. wincesties ship wincest not necessarily bc there is a canonical dysfunctional sexual or romantic tension between sam and dean, but rather bc they um. kinda just want to engage in fandom around two hot guys fucking and they think its hot that theyre brothers (read: they are fetishizing incest lol). that's not to say supernatural writers didnt begin encouraging wincesties as the show went on by including weird scenes and dialogue or being kinda vaguely homophobic by equating destiel to wincest at cons etc etc. HOWEVER. at its core, wincest fandom treats wincest as they would any other mlm ship. which! yeah. is not engaging with and understanding a complex and fucked up and taboo theme of a show. it's just fetishizing. gross!!

SUCCESSION!!! speaks explicitly about incest especially wrt to roman in like. at least half the episodes of the show. roman regularly makes inappropriate sexual comments and jokes about logan, caroline, and shiv. it's an interesting theme for a character who, and i emphasize this greatly, is also incredibly sexually dysfunctional. his main love interest in the show is gerri, his sister's godmother, who sexually degrades him while he jerks off. gerri, whose sexual degradation of roman intentionally mimics the way his father speaks to him! this is a constant theme for roman on the show itself, and its impossible to understand roman as a character without engaging with uhh his textual incestuous comments and vaguely pseudo-incestuous sexual behaviors. do i think roman actually genuinely would choose to have a sexual relationship with his family members? NO absolutely not. do i think people shipping roman with his family members is fetishization? YES absolutely. and i think for the most part, succession fandom doesnt fetishize the incestuous elements of roman's character in the way supernatural fandom does! and i think that comes from. well. the shows themselves and the way they handle these themes. (and obviously it goes without saying that shipping roman with any of his family members will get you an instant block from me bc i do not! want! to see that!)

and last but certainly not least i think the intention behind this ask is sooo interesting. i think you're trying to get me tumblr-cancelled for like. engaging with the taboo themes of a story. even tho i dont think the way i engage with those themes is fetishistic or amoral at all and is in fact uhh just kind of analyzing the events of the story. not even analyzing myself! reblogging analysis. i know more articulate people than myself have made more comprehensive posts about purity/cancel culture and how it affects peoples ability to engage with stories that contain amoral themes but uhh! yeah thats the vibe im getting from this ask. anyway. i have to believe for my own sanity that you have never seen succession and dont realize how much they discuss this in the show LOL. in reality im 99% sure you are just one of the terfs that has been attempting to harass me for the last few days. in which case um. slay! see ya.

Alright, please I have a small request

Can you please stop making "jokes" about how Rafal Nel and Alear aren't blood-related under my meta post about them pleaaaaaaase ?

You know that while their S support isn't canon in any way, the fact that Nel, Rafal and Alear aren't siblings is canon right ? No matter whom you marry. Even if you choose Alfred, they aren't siblings. Even if you choose Yunaka, they arent's siblings. This isn't some knowledge or special magical thing only tied to their S support, it's something that is canonically established independly of your decision. So really. When I am talking about lore stuff about them that have nothing to do with the S support because it exist independly of it, it's getting annoying to have somone ALWAYS pointing out to how they are optional romance.

Whether I am talking about it or not, it's annoying and not mentioning that there are people who get triggered by the sole mention of the I word, so when you do stuff like that, I can't even warn them with a TW and I don't even know what TW I am supposed to put exactly ? Like people joking about two individual descending from different version of a same person being unrelated to each other ???

When you are doing that you are giving the impression that Nel and Rafal only exist for Alear to have a dragon waifu/husbando with some lore to make it vaguely wincest-ual instead of them existing independly of the S support and the S support existing only cause IS didn't intended to go the sibling path with them.... like they did for all the previous entries. And it's annoying cause the dragon lore is interesting and I always find need detail to compare as to how different Nel and Rafal are from Veyle and Alear when it comes to Fell dragons and I don't wanna fear to have discourse about how they should pass a DNA test each time I am talking about Nel or Rafal.... really, that's tiresome.

I have the impression I can't talk about my favorite character without having someone trying to start something to ignite discourse because they dislike their S support existing. The Fell twins are already underrated as ever.

Please, don't do it under any of my post. Go bother IS instead. If you see one of my post, please resist the urge. Don't comment. Heck, even block me or mute it. If you can't handle it, don't play the DLC, or Engage, or Fire Emblem period. Cause really, I don't know what to think when someone will comment that they aren't blood related or jokes about "Kaga's intent" under my post. I can't tell if you are uncomfortable, or if you actually don't care, all I can tell is that it is annoying me that the first thing you think of when I talk about the lore surrounding Nel Rafal and Alear is the fact you can date them. When I can assure you that this is probably the one thing IS think the less about. I don't think they made alll the differencies between the two pair of Fell siblings exist just to make it ok to waifu Nel and Rafal, but rather that they wrote their stories first and then put the S rank because they saw no problem with that as it wasn't in their plan to make it seems like they are family. Call me naive, but at this point it's my conclusion from all the reading I made. And I think we can discuss it, without brining up something that is ENTIRELY optional when I am discussing something that is ENTIRELY CANON.

That's honestly kind of disrepectful towards me or other if I am being honest. It's the equivalent of telling someone under a post that is made to say they like a story that this story is bad, or that their favorite character is bad, or that their ship is bad or problematic. Sole difference is that you are dragging me to a discourse I try my best to avoid, so much that I keep all my shipping work in separate plateform as to not bother anyone, but this time with analysis that I enjoy doing. I don't wanna sound like I am being sensitive, but I allowed it for way too long and my patience as its limit too. I really don't wanna see my post that are meta based on the canon text being dragged into a stupid ship war to know on whether or not it's ok to ship those two fictional characters when it had nothing to do with the OG post.

So please, please, do not do that again. I already used to turn off my notification or mute my post but that didn't work and normally I shouldn't even have to do it in the first place, so I am asking you. Make an effort.

happy wincest wednesday! what's the fic that converted you to wincest? not necessarily the first you remember reading, but the first that impressed you and stayed with you all these years?

ooh ty, such a good question. and happy saturday, this clearly took me a while but believe it or not i cut out over half of this response lol. sorry in advance for the messiness of this answer <3

i have to say that since that was in 2014 (so the year after i started watching spn), i don't remember what fic really "converted" me (i do remember what finally made me find it compelling in-show: teasers from s10 the summer before it aired), or a fic that has stayed with me since that long ago (my memory is a black hole lol), but i always love a good excuse to go through my ao3 bookmarks and history, so let's see...

the first wincest fic that apparently impressed me the most back when i read it in late 2014 was sight lines by kissyn because it was, and i quote from my bookmarks, "the fic that made me want to use bookmarks". i reread it just now and while i wouldn't have called it an answer to this question before that, it might actually be one after all. and it still works, even when some of my preferences and views of what's IC and not have obviously changed since then. i guess that fic portrays that beginning for me quite well, it's a few months into me reading wincest fic and it shows how i had started reading fic for them, while sharing qualities with what i had read before (heed the tags lol). i was starting to get an idea of what i was looking for in s/d fic and their relationship in general, even if that fic wasn't it yet or now (but i contain multitudes,,,). i’ll let the beautiful opening paragraph speak for itself:

There's something eerie about driving into a small town just as real autumn twilight sets in, especially the kind of small towns you find in rural Appalachian territory. Tall pines loom in close over the winding roads and block all but the narrowest strip of overcast sky with their skinny grasping branches. Sweeping hills and valleys seem to tuck each village into its own isolated world. Impending darkness, already deep in the gaps between trees, makes claustrophobia threaten. Sam is used to long stretches of plains, where he can see on and on over yellow grass. Here, each curve in the road hides the next quarter mile. Gas stations and rundown liquor stores and intersections spring on them with no warning. ––

and i realised that these lines actually have stayed with me:

i can't still really say that or any other fic made me be properly into wincest, it was a group effort with the show and tumblr (and this exploration into those beginnings has just left me more confused lol, this answer is me simplifying a lot), but it's probably the best early example? especially since while i did start reading sam/dean fics a few months earlier and there were some other formative and memorable fics from before, most were honestly pwps that IIRC i didn't read primarily for the sam and dean of it. the lines were blurry, but then another impactful "conversion" for me was maybe a year later when i found authors such as fleshflutter (forever <3 i wish i could link a specific fic but i just blanket bookmarked all of them) and candle_beck (although i never read that many fics from them until last year), who among others definitely left a mark. and then i took an almost four-year break from the fandom and had another ~conversion a year ago, which was especially important when it came to sam and dean's relationship for me. some things changed, some stayed the same...

i'd love to rec some All Time Favourites and give a clear answer so i'm still not satisfied with this, but there are so many deleted ones and ao3 history doesn't work like i'd want it to, not to mention lj... and the fics i read didn't maybe necessarily always reflect my thoughts about their relationship, which i now have a clearer and dearer idea of. and apparently i didn't even end up bookmarking that many sam/dean fics back then (it was one relationship among others for me but also i had some struggles finding fic among all the [redacted] that i came across)? also i could be misremembering everything here lol. anyway @ past me please start bookmarking more fics and also start doing it earlier thanks. this isn't probably the answer you were looking for, more just me pondering than talking about specific fics, but maybe it's something :)
