So I went to a pole dancing performance the other night and there are pole waxers/cleaners who have to clean the poles between performers to make sure the pole can be gripped properly since hands sweat. The pole waxers are actually pretty good at climbing the pole - they have to be! Anyways, I thought of Mickey being a pole waxer with Ian as a bouncer or bar tender and hooting and hollering every time Mickey goes to wax a pole and Mickey just flipping him off like "c'mon, I'm just cleaning this stupid thing". So Mickey is just sitting at the top of the pole with one hand on the pole and the other flipping Ian off XD

Scurv! This sounds like it was such a fun time! I’ve always been curious about it but it seems like you need a lot of stamina for it and I don’t think I’m there yet with my exercising.

I’m loving these insights into it because I don’t know much about it! 👀 and OMG this is such a fun idea! Mickey being all nonchalant and causal about his job and the sexy bouncer just watching him and being all silly as he whistles. And Mickey is just like so over it….except he’s not, because Ian is hot and Mickey can’t help showing off a bit. Sliding slow and gripping tight and just making sure it’s obvious he’s very talented at his job. Flipping him off every single time.

Ian is just so impressed. And he wants to ask Mickey out but…should he? Could he? Clearly Mickey is hot as fuck. He’s probably got loads of guys desperate to go out with him. Ian needs to impress Mickey, like Mickey’s impressed him. So he turns up the heat in the studio, makes sure that there’s lots of condensation and writes on the mirror asking Mickey for a date. He worries it comes across a bit like something out of a horror movie but thankfully Mickey thinks it’s funny and accepts.

A Christmas No. 1

When 2021 Sky UK original A Christmas No. 1 unexpectedly popped up on Tubi, the first time it’s been available in the U.S., I was excited enough about its arrival to finally dive into holiday 2022 viewing. It was also the first thing I’d ever watched on the free-with-ads streamer, and though the choppy commercial insertion drove me slightly batty, No. 1 was worth the hassle, providing a very strong start to my season’s watching.

A noticeably pregnant, but never acknowledged, Freida Pinto, is a music exec tasked with finding a hit Christmas song for the cheesy boy band she produces in order to save her sleezy boss’ record company. Enter Iwan Rheon, the world’s most adorable heavy metal bass guitar player, and his sassy and, as it sadly turns out, sick niece, “Nina,” played by Helena Zengel, because there are a weirdly large amount of Germans in this UK-shot, British Christmas movie.

Anyway, Rheon’s “Blake” writes a sweet Christmas song for his niece, which she shares online, because she is a teenager, and when Pinto’s “Meg” hears it, she’s determined to secure it for 5Together, the very accurately portrayed cheesy boy band Nina just happens to adore.

There are more than a few complications along the way, including Meg’s superstar ex-boyfriend, drama with Blake’s Scurve bandmates, and a tiny but delightful role for the wonderful Debi Mazar.

Giant coats poorly hiding Pinto’s ever-growing baby bump aside, this was a very well done movie (Hallmark wishes it had Sky’s budgets), I ended up finding unexpectedly touching, far less formulaic than average, and I can’t get its “Christmas Morning” original song out of my head.

Great way to start the season and made me want to see Sky’s other holiday originals even more. (C’mon Last Train to Christmas!)

Final Judgement: Not perfect, but liked it a lot, so I’m gonna do it…4 paws, right out of the gate.

A Victorian midbust corset like this one is hard to find, especially in a wearable size. The smallest the waist goes is 27" and though the bustline is only 32", it's meant to fit (and lift!) the lower half of the bust so could accommodate a larger size. A chemise would've been worn underneath. And there's something off about the lacing. Your tags are going to have me writing more aren't they? I love all your thoughts about it. How Mickey just HAD to sneak away, the pressure had built up and he just...needed to be OUT in a way, so he went to the club, and it should be safe right? No one in the Southside knows about - oh shit, it's Ian Gallagher, his sister's boyfriend. Wait. What is HE doing here? Holy shit, does MANDY know??

I barely thought it through before writing it, just a "hmm, what if?" *tosses out a drabble* but now I'm just contemplating all the potential of it.

Scurv! I would love if you wrote more if you’re inspired! It’s such a great idea!

Yeah, the pressure totally builds but I can also imagine he’s still very much on his guard…like he’s wearing a hoodie with the hood up so no one can really see his face? Maybe he’s drunk and a little high for bravery? Maybe this his first time ever going to a club and he’s not really interacting with anyone because he’s so fucking nervous and terrified and so he just watches everyone? Maybe he hopes that if he goes and sees what it’s like, he’ll not have all these feelings anymore and it’ll be a one time thing that he has to get out of his system? I’m thinking season 1 Mickey might think along those lines even though deep down he might know it’s not true?

But then he sees Ian! and it takes him a second for it to click into place that it’s Mandy’s boyfriend…because what. the. fuck. And then he sees Ian being hit on by a much older man and he doesn’t even think about the consequences (because he’s pissed at the idea of this guy being gross but also because he’s maybe more drunk than he realised) and so he goes over and tells the guy to fuck off….

What does Ian think? Shock? Interest? Curiosity? I can see him becoming quite intrigued by Mickey after an encounter like this…but how would Mickey react? Instantly negatively? Would Ian have to pursue him a bit? Or would they start hooking up and become friends?

Ahhh, I love this idea so much Scurv, I really would love to read all your ideas and thoughts about this!!!!💖💖💖💖💖

| Scroll through for 2 photos | All this talk about Chicago infrastructure and bridges got VintageTribune thinking about one of our favorite photos: the opening of the Outer Drive Bridge (now Lake Shore Drive) in 1937. President Franklin Roosevelt dedicated the Outer Drive Bridge on Oct. 5, 1937, in a civic bash the likes of which Chicago had seldom seen. The bridge--seven years in the making, counting two major delays for want of funds--was hailed as a link-up between the city`s two major park systems, Lincoln on the north and Grant on the south, and as a source of relief for massive congestion on the Michigan Avenue Bridge. The bridge, built to bear the stress of a continuous stream of cars from either direction in its eight lanes, was regarded as an engineering marvel. The S-curve near the south end of the bridge became known as a notorious spot for traffic accidents. The Tribune wrote about the straightening of the S-curve in 1985, “After rubbing raw the nerves of millions of motorists over five decades, causing untold numbers of fender benders and provoking who-knows-how-many epithets from otherwise mild-mannered drivers, the Lake Shore Drive S-curve finally is about to be committed to Chicago history. City officials say that a new stretch of Lake Shore Drive, running from Monroe Street to Wacker Drive and bypassing the despised curve, will open to northbound traffic as early as September.
