Finally catching up on like seven episodes of Precure.

The stuffed animal in question: A brown cat plushie, slightly less creepy-looking once it’s been cleaned, which is actively and explicitly haunted. It has telekinesis and talks.

So she swapped out her glass eye to a different color (the one on the right) and put on the white face paint. She’s always at 100 all the time, just a ball of pure energy. She was in the circus with her family as an acrobat, before she was a virtualetta, and during one of her stunts she injured her eye, which is why she has a glass one.

A 2 star virtualetta like her partner, she also added face paint to her form.

One thing I really liked about Ageha’s introduction is they gave a really interesting reason for why she’s the ‘support character’. The kids she’s looking after were taking the wrong lessons from Precure and thought being a good person is all about violently attacking people who do wrong. It’s like, because she saw that happen, she decided to be the type of Precure who was a good role model for young children by showing how you can take monsters down nonviolently.

And honestly, for any other kind of character that’d feel kind of juvenile and naive, but it works for Ageha because she is the oldest one. It’s like, because she’s an adult, she’s mature enough to choose to be pacifistic because she understands enough about how the world works to know how to make that work.

Maybe that’s a thing with people who work in childcare in general - they can choose to take the idealistic option because they’re strong enough to deal with the consequences of that.

it’s just very interesting, giving a childcare worker superpowers. like the writers saw how much energy and effort goes into doing that and said “these guys are basically invincible” and turned that into a Precure

My Favorite Pretty Cures of Every Color

Pink ~ Cure Butterfly/Ageha Hijiri

Before Cure Butterfly, there weren’t many pink cures that I absolutely loved. When she was introduced, she was automatically my favorite one.

She’s one of the very few pink cures who isn’t ditzy or clumsy, which is great. She’s also older, so I can relate to her more.

Ageha’s relationships with the other characters is something I love. Especially with Cure Wing. Their sibling relationship is just so cute and funny!

Red ~ Cure Flamingo/Asuka Takizawa

Before I even watched Tropical Rouge Precure, I was really excited to see Cure Flamingo. Her design is just amazing!

Her cool older sister attitude is a really great addition to the team. I don’t have much else to say about her. She’s just a good cure.

Orange ~ Cure Wing/Tsubasa Yuunagi

There are only two orange cures, but Cure Wing beats out Cure Sunny really easily for me.

Him being the first official boy cure is already a great thing. But his personality is something I love so much. He’s not the stereotypical boyish boy who’s into sports and hates that he has to be around girls all the time. He’s sweet and caring, and his love for planes is so cute. I also love how he can act as a sort of role model for little boys who love Precure.

His whole relationship with Elle is just the most adorable thing ever. He’s more like an older brother than a knight, and you can tell how much he cares for her.

Yellow ~ Cure Yum-Yum/Ran Hanamichi

Cure Yum-Yum is such an underrated cure in my opinion.

Her design is so unique and beautiful. It’s definitely one of my favorite cure designs. Toei really knocked it out of the park with her.

I also relate to Ran on kind of a personal level. She gets so passionate and excited about the things she loves. Sometimes, she’s a bit much, and she interrupts people. Seeing things I don’t like about myself in characters really draws me to them.

Green ~ Cure Felice/Hanami Kotoha

When she was a baby, I didn’t really like Ha. In fact, I kind of saw her as annoying. But once she grew up and became a cure, I started to like her.

Usually I don’t like the while “they’re technically older but also not” trope, but I think Cure Felice pulls it off.

The fact that she’s kind of overpowered isn’t really an issue for me either. She’s aware that she’s powerful, and questions it. It even bothers her that she doesn’t have to try hard.

Blue ~ Cure Marine/Erika Kurumi

Cure Marine is so iconic. I love her attitude, and her personality compliments Cure Blossom’s so well.

Most blue cures are more on the serious side, so I like how Erika isn’t. She’s loud, confident and funny.

Purple ~ Cure Coral/Sango Suzumura

I fell in love with Cure Coral’s design the moment I saw it. It’s just so cute! All the bows and frills, and that hat!

Sango’s personality sets her apart from the rest of the purple cures, and I love her for that. I love her love for cute things, and her friendship with Manatsu.

White ~ Cure White/Honoka Yukishiro

The icon. The legend. One of the cures who started it all.

I love Cure White. She shows little girls that they can be smart and strong at the same time. She also doesn’t need to constantly saved by Cure Black. In battle, they’re both equally as strong. Honoka’s personality compliments Nagisa’s perfectly as well.

Hirogaru Sky Impressions (1/5)

We're in for 48 episodes so I'll do these after every 10 episodes until the end.

And I'll try to keep it short since I'm sure most of the major topics have already been discussed in great length anyway so I don't want to add to the redundancy.

Simply put, this anniversary season has been a blast of heartwarming fun so far. Not to mention, quite innovative in regards to the franchise as a whole. The breaking of old trends is excitingly refreshing while the show is still keeping it very Precure in spirit.

If anything, SkyPre (HiroSky? HiroPre? which way are we calling it?) feels the most Precure to me since probably StarPre and I think that's due to how the writing is handled this year.

Story format changes

I'm very happy that they went for spreading out the introductions and pacing the debut schedules instead of bunching the first four episodes with one new transformation after another.

True, this technically started with DeliPaPre but last season was rather weak in the characterization and group chemistry departments that the effort seemed almost wasted.

Of course, I'm not saying the DeliPa girls were a poor team or anything. They were alright.

But when you watch SkyPre, the development just feels so much more satisfying, don't you think?

Starting the season off with paired Cures (as a tribute to FutariWa, kyaa! 😆) was a great idea because it gave a lot of time for Sora and Mashiro, the first members, to bond and find their groove as partners while establishing their characters through their individual personalities, goals and inner conflicts.

Then incorporating more Cures as we go along (Tsubasa/Wing and later, Ageha/Butterfly), we have something to look forward to every week instead of letting the hype die down right after everyone debuted already...until it rises up again with the reveal of the next stock footage only to go down again and repeat.

Precure's strongest trait as a magical girl series has always been its theme of friendship and teamwork. However, you can't achieve a solid execution of that theme well if you don't actually devote time and focus to the build up of genuine camaraderie.

And the basic foundations for that lies in everyone acknowledging each other's different strengths and demonstrating how vital and valuable those are to the group.

Ep 10 really reinforced those principles (even letting Sora and Mashiro dismiss the villain cuz their friendship moment with Tsubasa came FIRST 😤) which is great cuz with Ageha's debut coming up around the corner, we can rest assured that this aspect will remain steady for at least another 10 episodes.

2. Characterization

To have a good diversified team, naturally you would need distinctly carved out characters (in other words, more than just archetypes).

SkyPre does display some old patterns but that's not a bad thing since the show largely avoids over reliance on them by giving each Cure a significant amount of depth to work with and specific goal(s) to aim for.

For Sora, Tsubasa and Ageha, their personal character arcs are quite clear and they all fit into a type of hero to go along with the season's motif. Cure Sky being a traditional ally of justice, Cure Wing as the knight to Elle-chan's princess. And Ageha wishes to become a nursery teacher, which is a very admirable ambition as teachers can serve as role models to children.

That leaves Mashiro, who's been troubled on several occasions for not having a dream of her own.

But I don't believe this means an absence of a character arc for her. At the very least, there's certainly no lack of conflict since she realized the "problem" herself and has been given screentime to address it and overcome her own doubts.

Perhaps this is also indicating that "finding her dream" is her goal and learning to accept her own "light that illuminates others" is part of that discovery process.

Mashiro's personality and drive is very supportive in nature, after all. We saw that in how she was very welcoming and accommodating of Sora and Tsubasa, residents from another world. We saw that in how she was the one to comfort Ageha, who is older than her, in the past when they were both small children.

And that is a type of hero, too.

You don't have to be super confident or bold and forthright. You don't have to be a leader or force stereotypical notions of heroism onto yourself to be a hero.

You just need a good heart and to be able to act on it.

Chances are, if you were kind to someone in need or helped someone less fortunate because you knew it was the right thing to do, then you already qualify as a true hero.

I believe that is the message of Mashiro's story.

That said, we already got so much good content and we still have so much to look forward to. Yay! 😆

Ageha/Cure Butterfly joining the team foremost (sometime after ep 15 apparently since the next announced titles don't list her name yet)

More villain generals appearing soon and therefore, more insight into what they're really after (though it's probably gonna be generic evil as always but eh, whatever cuz everything else is awesome).

More on the person who saved Sora and inspired her to become a hero, Tsubasa accomplishing his dream of being able to fly w/o the assistance of magic.

Ellee-chan's mysterious powers, oooh~

First group attack, group power-up + power-up attack, ultimate power-up (??)

Midseason Cure already spoiled but we all know who it's going to be anyway and the question if her debut will fall around the early 20s or later with the shift in narrative arrangement (see above).

(on another note, they now have 38 more episodes to fix Prism's transformation sequence cuz god, did they do her dirty. Especially her going MIA on the "JUMP" platform did she jump so hard she went to Skyland?! and the static split screen. I can let go of everything else but PLEASE. FIX. THOSE. DAMMIT!! 🫵💢)

I was recently asked about the difference between hime gyaru and himekaji, so here's a quick explination!

💖 HIME GYARU: Hime (姫) in Japanese translates to 'princess'. The style consists of a very elegant, ornate, layered outfit that has lots of frills, bows, and lace. The idea conveys the gyaru style of makeup, but done in a sort of dramatic and princess look. Clothes are usually pink or white, hair is most often done in a large sujimori, and the wearer always adorns themselves with lots of jewelry, bows, and a bag to match the outfit. Gals who practice this style usually have "Sakurina nails" (named after the style of nails often worn by Sakurina, or Rina Sakurai, an Ageha model and J-Pop artist). Popular brands for this style would be LIZ LISA, La Parfait, JESUS DIAMANTE, Tralala, and Princess Melody.

💖 HIMEKAJI: A substyle of hime gyaru, himekaji (姫カジ) translates to 'princess casual'. While a bit self-explanatory, this style could be described as a 'watered-down' version of hime gyaru. Outfits worn by gals who practice this style are not as ornate and elegant as regular hime gyaru. They are more comfortable and casual, as the name suggests, while still being cute and princess-like. In this style, gals would be more likely to chose a skirt, light sweater, and boots (pictured above), or even a light dress, or coat. The style still follows the theme of pink and white, but incorporates a bit of tan as well (coats, boots, etc.) The makeup for this style is a bit more relaxed, as is the hairstyle, which would be more of a simple curl pattern, rather than a high sujimori. Accessories usually consist of rings, headbands, bows, earrings, and bags, but a bit more simple in their styling.

I hope this helps bring some clarification to those who needed it, but remember: fashion doesn't have a set of rules. Sure, there are guidelines to each style, but they are not set in stone. Mix, match, and have fun! That's how new styles are created, and that's how we express ourselves! Be yourself, and have fun with it! 💖
