I am sitting here now after multiple discussions about Nicte and Sarah and after having listened to an acoustic piano version of Last Kiss by Taylor Swift, and I CANNOT STOP thinking about their love story and heartbreak.
When we meet Sarah Alder, she’s guarded and shut off from emotion because she hurt, devastatingly so, the last person she loved. She let someone in. Someone who made her laugh, who made her remember what it felt like to feel and care, and then she let her position and duty wreck it.
That’s just canon.
The entire story of Sarah Alder as we see it in the show is framed around how she responds to the Spree and how her generals are upset with her reaction. They are unknowingly upset with how she’s responding to the woman she loved (still loves, I argue, but there is too much pain and history between them now).
That means that Sarah’s story, as the General of the Armed Forces, revolves around her history with her ex-lover, Nicte Batan.
We see her participate in the Reel to a point - remember she EXITS the floor before it chooses for her. She powers up with the Witchfather and that’s it. She’s performing ceremony, that’s all.
We see her laugh, emotion laden, in the last episode when Nicte makes her laugh. And Nicte SMILES right after it because she, too, has been missing that desperately over the years.
When Scylla and Nicte were fighting because Scylla was desperately trying to get her love, who was Armed Forces, back? Nicte mocked her. Told her to get over it, but it threw Nicte for a loop. She became contemplative about her past. She didn’t fight for her love who was the Armed Forces. Perhaps she merely had to give up.
And Sarah? You think Tally was seeing those dreams of Liberia because she just got to choose what memories of Sarah’s she saw?
No. Raelle saw her murdered coven be found because the Mother was showing her how she gave life to her vessel. We heard about her family being murdered and only ever saw her sister die in a reenactment, but Tally, who was connected to her intimately? She saw what haunts her in real time.
And that was betraying and losing Nicte.
I just can’t.
The ENTIRE show is based around their relationship as a central theme.

Can we take a minute to talk about the danger in the aftermath of the Unit/ Mother converting everyone in the world into witches. Because on the surface it places everyone on equal footing and removes the witch stigma, but there are some people out there with irrational and intense witch hatred that will be traumatized by this for sure. But more importantly, the Camarilla now has an even bigger advantage due to all the anti-witch work technology they’ve created. This gives them an advantage in battle no one else has and they can conceivably dominate the world with this. Plus they are well funded and have infiltrated global governments. Being anti-witch was an excuse to rally the masses and make a grab at unprecedented power (see current America’s Republican Party). And now, what’s to stop them from following through?

Sarah eyed the plate in front of her suspiciously, raising an eyebrow when she heard a familiar voice call out from the kitchen. (1st line prompt)
Under the cut.
Sarah eyed the plate in front of her suspiciously, raising an eyebrow when she heard a familiar voice call out from the kitchen.
"Red, where did you put the—?" Nicte's harried voice yelled, and Sarah's lips quirked up a little in fondness at the harmless and affectionate exasperation in the other witch's tone.
"Right here," Tally interrupted, and Sarah found herself slowly creeping to the entrance to the kitchen, leaning against the door.
Sarah coughed a little to announce her presence, chuckling at the way the other two jumped, before saying, "What are you two up to? There are already enough pancakes on the table to feed the entire US Army."
Nicte frowned at her for that comment, her tone condescending and slow when she responded, "Eggs, Sarah. Protein. A well rounded meal."
"We've got fruit, too," Tally explained, tossing Sarah an orange.
Sarah hummed a little in contemplation as she absentmindedly began to peel it, and watched her two lovers bicker as they whirled around the kitchen preparing more food than any of the three of them could eat in an entire year. She smiled softly at them, and laughed.

I've started Motherland: Fort Salem some time last week and I've caught up with it. Ugh its such a good show! I love the Matriarchal set up of it and absolutely love every woman in there. Well except the one in the Camarialla 🙄
And obviously Raella ugh. Legit gonna rewatch again.
