I feel like it’s time for me to share my theory about 1D’s formation (and why it had been planned well before this X-factor video was shot - though this video did very well at making it seem organic)
A lot of this theory comes from reading stuff from @verily-i-say who, if you weren’t around when she was, worked with reality television and talked about how casting for reality shows works (ie everyone is assigned a role before they are even cast and you just try to find someone who can fit the roles that you need)
Liam giving that talk a couple months back about how 1D was something he believed Simon made for him because of their talk only solidified this theory for me. So lets get into it.
Let’s start with what was going on in pop culture in the start of 2010, and what 1D was originally supposed to be. Because remember, 1D was never supposed to be as big as they ended up being! By 2010 boy bands still weren’t as big as they had been in the late 90s and early 00s. There were the Jonas Brothers who were starting to wind down their activities just by the nature of how long they had been. The producers of X-factor would have known this without any sort of inside knowledge it’s just how pop bands are. They have shelf lives. K-pop was trying hard to pierce the western market but so far nothing had stuck and there was a feeling at the time that kpop would never make it big in the west because of how their bands were crafted/promoted.
What that means is there was room for a boy band. I think Simon and the people in the X-factor knew it was a good time to make a boyband. There was a market for it, and something that needed filled. So they start crafting their story. No group had ever won the X-factor because pre-made groups kinda sucked/weren’t fully crafted the same way they used to be. Clearly this meant they would have more success making a group than anything else.
We know the producers knew of Liam and Louis. I think they started with Liam - and again this is all before we even got to the filmed auditions. I think they had the idea to make the band with these 5 boys from the original auditions and it was ALWAYS going to be them.
Niall filled the Irish niche. They had just opened auditions to Ireland. This was an easy way to gain success in Ireland.
Zayn filled the “ethnic” niche. How else is the group supposed to be “diverse” if they don’t have a POC?
Liam filled the group leader. The band was originally crafted around Liam and I will die by this.
Harry filled the “baby” role. He was the youngest. You think it was coincidence his age was brought up during his filmed audition? No it was meant to cast him as the “baby”. It’s not as intense a role as the “maknae” in kpop groups but it’s a role to fill. It also leads into him being marketed as “adorably slow”. He’s baby.
And Louis? Well Louis filled the “gay” role. Vee has talked about how obvious it is to anyone with eyes that 18 year old Louis was gay. I’ll get into why they needed a gay member in a moment.
So that was their initial set up: Irish, POC, Leader, Baby, Gay. Those are the roles the X-factor deemed they needed for a boyband in early 2010 and then they went about looking for people who fit those roles.
Now, like with any casting, it doesn’t always work out perfectly. You see it constantly in tv shows and reality shows. Audience reaction to people and also just general “character development” changes where people fall. Liam’s role of “leader” and “face” of the band swiftly fell apart because Harry is SO FUCKING CHARISMATIC. If you rewatch any X-factor stuff you can see it happen almost in real time. I could go on a whole tangent about how this affected Liam and Harry’s relationship but that’s not exactly the point of this post and it’s already way too long lol.
But what happened to Louis being “gay” and why did they need a “gay” member to begin with? It goes back to the idea 1D was never meant to be as successful as they are. In 2010 being gay and coming out/or being outted was like… pop culture candy. It was trendy. It got you promo. I’m not saying it’s right but that’s how it was. So I think they always wanted a gay member so that way they guaranteed a 3 album commitment from the boys. Album 1 rides off the back of X-factor. If Album 2 wasn’t as successful you pull out the gay card and BOOM instant interest in album 3. Enough to get Simon’s money worth from the band before they’re allowed to fade into obscurity.
Obviously that didn’t happen. Why? Well for starters the band was INSANELY popular. And secondly 🤷🏼‍♀️ Larry? They got put in a position with Larry where they couldn’t out Louis even if they needed to without outting Harry and ruining his “role” in the band.
And there’s my theory ✌🏻

I'm also AUTISTIC autistic gimme the TD timeline
*cracks knuckles*
let's fucking do this
SO. for the sake of arguments we're going to assume that the first season takes place in 2007 because that's when the show premiered. that's our starting off point. at some point in the summer of 2007.
we know that TDA starts mere days after the end of TDI, so we're still in 2007. I'm gonna say that's a total of about three or four months. so beginning of TDI to end of TDA = early summer to beginning of autumn in 2007. simple enough so far.
but TDWT is when things begin to get fuzzy. we know it's been a while since Action, because we had an entire Celebrity Manhunt special about what the cast had been up to between seasons. so it's been way more than just a couple of days.
BUT we do have a concrete date for the end of the season. in the Drumheller episode (I believe - it's one of the last few), it's Cody's birthday, and we know his birthday is April 1st. so the season ends in early April.
and fortunately, since we're in a different country every episode, weather does not factor into judging which season it is! so I'm going to say that World Tour begins in February 2008. begins in February, ends in April. why Chris had his summer camp show happen during this timeframe is beyond me, but who knows why Chris does anything.
now Revenge of the Island doesn't have any dates to adhere to, BUT. the next season does. Congrats, All-Stars, your existence does have a purpose!
so in TDAS Alejandro says that he was stuck in the robot suit for a year. we can be a little flexible with this since he probably didn't mean exactly one year to the day, but we can safely say that about a year has passed between the end of World Tour and the beginning of All Stars. or should I say, April 2008 and early summer 2009.
And just to keep things nice and tidy we can say ROTI takes place in summer 2008, just a few months after TDWT ended.
right, so we're in 2009, All Stars has ended and the island sank into the lake. awesome. now what do we do about Pahkitew?
well, I'm not sure exactly how long it would take to build a fully working mechanical island complete with waterworks, artificial flora, animatronic creatures and weather settings. but I'm assuming it doesn't take a few days. oh, and speaking of which, since the weather on that island is artifical, I also don't need to take weather into account when determining when this takes place. so since I don't have a concrete time frame for Pahkitew, let's allow the general ballpark of six months to a year. either way, we're in 2010 now. woohoo!
now let's go on a bit of a tangent and talk about Chris.
because in this season, Chris tells Topher that he's 30. if he's 30 in 2010, that would make him 28 in 2008, when TDWT takes place as we established.
although maybe he's not necessarily 30 exactly. maybe he just rounded off his age to sound younger (which is in character for him tbh). so he's 35 at most. which would make him 33 at most in TDWT.
um.
in that season, Sierra says Chris was in a boyband in the 80s. as in, the 1980s. as in from 1980 to 1989. if he's 33 in 2010, he was 12 in 1989. if he's 30 in 2010, he was probably BORN in 1980.
either way, he was in a boyband before he was even a teenager, possibly before he was ten years old. what the fuck.
hm. to be honest, being exposed to the celebrity world and cheesy tabloid fame at that age would explain a lot about him. remember Geoff's corruption arc in TDA when he becomes the new Chris? who's to say Chris didn't have something like that happen to him, but at an even younger, more impressionable age?
...either that or he was lying to Topher about his age. which. honestly might be more likely lmao. but I still think about the boyband thing sometimes.
anyway back to the timeline!
so TDI and TDA take place in summer 2007.
TDWT takes place from February to April 2008.
ROTI takes place in the summer of that same year.
All-Stars takes place one year later in spring or summer 2009.
Pahkitew takes place six months to a year after that in 2010.
(and if we're adding Nautilus to this thing, let's say Pahkitew takes place only six months after TDAS in January-February 2010, and Nautilus takes place in summer 2010. if Zeke was 16 in 2007, he'd be 19 in 2010.)
and just to wrap it up, we already know the time period for the reboot. it takes place fifteen years after the first season, and fifteen years after 2007 is 2022. I doubt a full year has passed between the first and second reboot seasons, since not much seems to have changed, so I feel confident in saying we're still in 2022.
God knows why Owen still looks 16 at the age of 31, though. Maybe the makeup department made him look younger to make him as much like he was on the show, to... increase marketability or something. I do have my own personal conspiracy theory that the guy who showed up in the baking challenge in season 2 of the reboot wasn't actually Owen, but who knows.
anyway I did it I nailed down a solid(ish) timeline for this show. you're welcome anon.
*passes out*

Sonia, I'm roping you in with an ask even though you're not always here (miss u, love u) 💜 we know you are the romcom QUEEN - give us your top 5 favourite romcoms!
Hi friend, thanks for this totally not difficult-at-all question. Lol.
Okay, as you know, I can’t ever answer anything succinctly. I am going to take this opportunity to plug this nonfiction book I’m listening to on audio, titled “From Hollywood with Love: The Rise and Fall (and Rise Again) of the Romantic Comedy.” –highly recommend it to anyone who is a rom-com nerd like me.
The book asks the following question to determine what can be considered a romantic comedy:
“If you removed the love story from this movie, would you still have a movie? If the answer is no, it’s a romantic comedy.”
With this question in mind, here is my list (not in ranking order, I’m just listing them as they come to me.) Also, yes, this means I can’t list the 2000 gem that was Miss Congeniality. That is my #1 favorite Sandy movie. Not to worry, though, Sandy B. still makes the list.
Here we go:
Serendipity: The trope. NYC as a character. The cast—John Cusack, Kate Beckinsale, John Corbett, Molly Shannon, and the illustrious Eugene Levy who stole all of his scenes as the Bloomingdale’s employee making John Cusack’s life miserable lol. It’s just so good. It’s peak rom-com in the early 2000s. Those of you old enough to appreciate that era of rom-coms will know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s one of my all-time favs. 👏🏽
Two Weeks Notice: Sandy B. Listen, I had to work hard not to make every movie on this list a Sandra Bullock-starring film. I feel like choosing your favorite rom-com actress from the 90s/2000s is a little like choosing your boyband team from that same era. I am Team Sandy B. all the way. (No disrespect to Julia and Meg, and so many others who also made movies I loved.) I love Sandra in this movie opposite Hugh Grant, she’s so smart and so funny. The premise of this movie is actually one I still hold out hope for seeing written as firstprince fanfic someday. Sandra is an environmental lawyer who goes to work for a billionaire’s company in order to save a community center that is very dear to her. There are aspects of that plot that I think Alex and Henry would fit into, and aspects to tweak because I don't think Henry would be quite as arrogant or bumbling as Hugh's character. I could talk about this at length lol.
Definitely, Maybe: Again – the cast. Ryan Reynolds. Isla Fisher. Rachel Weisz. Abigail Breslin. The trope/premise?? So good. I love how it jumps through time and shows us how second chances present themselves in our lives. It’s just a really lovely film and probably my favorite Ryan as a rom-com leading man, though The Proposal is a close second.
Hitch: This movie had me in tears, both from laughter and emotions. Also, the scene where Will Smith is teaching Kevin James’ character how to dance. Iconic. "I'm making the pizza!" “Don’t need no pizza, they got food there!” 😂
My Big Fat Greek Wedding: Windex. Nia Vardalos and John Corbett, watching their characters meet and fall in love. Just so damn dreamy. 😍 I also really love how this movie portrays that when you choose a partner, you’re also choosing their family. 💖
Set It Up: I know this is six lol. But I had to add in a movie post-2010. I love this one so much. I know a movie has become part of my personality when I start adopting the dialogue into my everyday vernacular lol. “I overdicked” is said A LOT. 😂 Also GLEN POWELL. 😏
Thanks for the nice ask! 💕

i remember in the mid 2010′s there was a pretty huge popularity of “stop shitting on media made for teenage girls” activism, because in the early 2010′s it was extremely popular to make fun of Justin Beiber, or twilight, or boybands or any piece of media made towards teenage girls, and media made for teen girls were put on a much higher sense of scrutiny than media made for teenage boys. and it WAS good that people were pointing the misogny of lot of the hate. The unfortunate result is that people started ignoring the mass “problematic” elements of some of these pieces of media. Most famously, the amount of racism and grooming in twilight (like how jacob fell in love with an actual baby) or the amount of actual misogyny in music made towards teenage girls BUT it also resulted in the weird dismissal of any criticism of media for teenage girls with “you’re really taking songs/movies/shows for 14 year olds girls seriously” which was not only anti-intellectual but also still like insulting media for teenage girls. as if it’s impossible for media for teenage girls to actually be good. and I’m seeing this again with media for children, because in general, I do think there was a problem with adults being weirdly hateful about media made for children. i remember a lot of grown-ass adults getting really pissed that children liked fornite for rather petty reasons, or adults claiming that kids who weren’t born in the 90′s “didn’t have a childhood” and that “all cartoons made today suck” when they haven’t actually watched it. But in turn I’ve seen a lot of weirdly dismissive comments about anyone who takes media made for children remotely seriously? because “x media didn’t get worse you’re just not 10 anymore″ is JUST as lazy of an analysis as “all cartoons made today suck, while all the cartoons i grew up with were great” because rather than analyzing cartoons on a base by base basis it’s dismissing any criticism becauses ALL cartoons are the same level of quality.  which isn’t actually a defense of modern kids media. and similiar to the twilight example, it’s let to the weird belief that it’s impossible for media made for children to carry harmful messaging or content. there’s a shit ton of tumblr posts where the punchline is “this person thinks steven universe (a show for CHILDREN!!!!) is irreeadamble media” and while i wouldn’t say steven universe is anywhere close to being that bad, it still contains rather racist and weirdly sexually content, in particulally the human zoo,. concrete (a design in the art book that resembled racist caricatures, that somehow ended up there) and steg who for a character meant to fusion of a father and son was weirdly fucking sexualized for no reason. and in general, there’s this weird dismissal that kids' media can actually BE good, so it’s pointless to criticize, which again isn’t really a defense of kids media but rather a dismissal that they’re culturally important enough to be worth looking into as if disney one of the richest companies in the planet.

i find the general public's shift in the '00s of being enamored with a purposefully chosen music group of hot guys who can sing and dance and they sing fun pop songs about being in love with you to then the girlies* decided to fall in love with some loser midwestern men with misogynistic lyrics and worst fashion sense ever and go crazy over them. obvs i know music shifts and tastes are so much more complicated than that but i just generally find it funny how one moment in earlier parts of the 2000s people were still going crazy over boybands whose whole point was for them to be slutty and to go insane for and the later half of the decade pete wentz's pathetic wet meow meow images are all over in teen magazines
I'm not sure if I fully agree with this interpretation, I think that the boyband thing was more late 90s-early 00s and then again in the early 2010s, and emo was solidly mid 00s. I also think multiple fan culture things happening at once is not mutually exclusive and "preps v emos" is a tale as old as time. NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys were more 2000, and then One Direction was definitely solidly 2012. FOB, Panic, and MCR were 2005.
However, during the Rimbaud-Verlaine dissertation research, I did find an article talking about how emo was considered incredibly cringe by 2008 which was interesting, I didn't really know that it was such a short-lived movement that was really only 4ish years max, if that. But I suppose most are-- the Burger thing didn't last very long, and neither did 1D
I kind of arrived at a similar conclusion separately because Pete's book reminds me very strongly of Tender is the Night and I took an entire class called Americans in Paris that was just about the Jazz Age and how it fell out of fashion so dramatically after the 1929 stock market crash, and it made me think a lot about how every emo band was kind of on the rocks during the recession.
But I didn't really think at all about the dramatic stylistic changes being a result of it being considered uncool. Especially since I associated a lot of slightly different but still somewhat "emo" bands like Sleeping with Sirens, Asking Alexandria, Pierce the Veil etc with like 2008-2012.

😢😢😢 i always felt bad that i was not active during 2010’s to 2012 period where Louis was lively… felt that i missed seeing him in action.. but these days reading & learning all these, watching videos how once lovely and lively boy became mute towards the end and knowing few things through AOTV it genuinely breaks my heart for louis and I wouldn’t have survived seeing it happening..
Let me tell you, i joined fandom as a harry fan and even then when i watched their videos i could see how unfairly other boys were treated comparatively and could see how blatant it was.. the focus, the opportunities, the projection given to one individual when it was supposed to be a boy band made me furious.. i can only imagine how others might’ve felt.. i think that’s why 1D fans in general do not blame zayn leaving band because they knew and could see how wrong everything was and its only fair.. only ppl outside felt it was wrong on his part..
To be fair,
1. Harry was very young and very insulated at the beginning. He became the people he surrounded himself with, who were not young and very experienced with manipulating young musicians and causing psychological turmoil within their bands.
2. Boybands always, always, always set up the guys for comparison. Since the beginning of time. Music labels know that boys grow up and eventually grow out of their cute phase (and usually turn not so handsome). So, early on, they pick a guy to go solo. Harry happened to be conventionally handsome and very malleable. He’s not the first to go behind his band’s back and he won’t be the last. (Copy Of A Copy Of A Copy, if you will.) Beyoncé came from a band. Timberlake and Robbie Williams came from bands. Etc.
3. OT5 fans want to live in a fantasyland where One Direction was the exception to all the rules. Well, I wanted to believe that too. I wanted a happy ending, a band with loyalty above all, a band with courage. 1D were so big, the biggest band in the world— like the Beatles— but in the end, they were not above ego and personal ambition.
Lennon and McCartney never got bigger than The Beatles. They did their iconic solo work, but there was magic when they worked together and especially when they felt united. There is nothing like camaraderie.
I also think that the kid that was in Louis is still there. His fundamental personality and his values haven’t changed. None of them have really changed. The men came from the same boys.

hey gina! i was listening to npr recently and heard this story on a new documentary about a puerto rican boyband called menudo. it seemed like they had a similar career trajectory to 1d with the way that they shot to fame and also the way they were marketed to teen girls. the boys from menudo were even younger - they were 12-15, and when they hit puberty and their voices changed, they were swapped out with new members.
what struck me most, though, was just how badly they were mistreated: the guy who put them together, edgardo díaz, was so similar to simon cowell it was scary - apparently parents had to sign away full custody of their kids when they joined the band, and díaz was basically only in it for the money and treated the kids horribly (many members alleged sexual and physical abuse). as adults these members are still traumatized. it's scary to think about just how /often/ these things can happen and just how permanently damaging it can be to these young kids (and they were /so/ young, god it's terrifying) who just don't have a clue what they're up against when they start out. anyways, i know it's not the most relevant thing, but as someone who spends a lot of time thinking about 1d's experiences while in the band, i thought the story was interesting and i wanted to share it with you and maybe anyone else who was interested! have a lovely day 💜
Hi sweetheart. Oh, I’m very familiar with Menudo. 😆 I’m old. They were the boyband all the girls in my high school loved. The description of Díaz also reminds me of the documentary on Lou Pearlman and his mistreatment of all the young boys who churned through his hit making factory in the late 90s/early 90s (most notably, *NSYNC and The Backstreet Boys). I’m sure Simon Cowell was taking notes.
Beyond everything you mentioned above, which is absolutely horrible, Menudo also gave us Ricky Martin — all grown up and a huge sex symbol of the late 90’s. Also gay and closeted. He came out in 2010 and is happily married with four kids now. But he has spoken about how awful the closeting was for him as well as how difficult it’s been getting work as a singer or actor since coming out — especially in America.
As Louis said, it’s a copy of a copy of a copy. 🫤

(Semi) Deep dive into Larry Stylinson Obsession
Ive realize the amount of people who might hate me for this but it's something I want to talk about. I might write some more about Larry but this is what I started with
I’ve grown up with One Direction since i was seven years old. I had no feelings about the ship Larry Stylinson until 2020 when i had a One Direction spike. At that time I became obsessed with the ship. Now my opinions on the ship are very mixed to say the least. I think with Fandom culture you can’t control what people do but at the same time fandom culture can take it too far. There is a boundary between love and respect for a celeb and borderline obsession and violating privacy. But wait, who is larry stylinson?
Larry Stylinson is the ship name of two members of boyband One Direction: Louis tomlinson and Harry Styles. The ship came about when fans started to notice how flirty and close the two were at the beginning of the band. Online there are a surplus amount of compilation videos to watch abou the two during that time period that it even more clear to fans of their “secret relationship” today there a lot rumors of the two writing songs about each other, most promemtly Louis’s song “always you”. He said that he wrote the song about his longtime girlfriend, but louis and harry shippers think otherwise.
When talking about Larry you have to discuss about fandom culture and social media. During the early 2010s, fandom culture was starting to become really big with the release of Tumblr. People would make blogs dedicated to their interests, writing fanfiction, posting gifs, creating art work and memes. I think a reason why Larry got so popular was because of the influx of content. People were able to share their theories on the ship to other people who felt the same as them. Fans of the ship considers themselves “larries”
This ship also created backlash though for people dubbed as “antis” or “anti-larries” these people believe that louis and harry were never together and it was just a figment of some crazy fans imaginations. They also believe that most of these fans are reaching for some crazy gay fetishization of men. I do believe that fetishizing and sexualizing gay men is something that happens a lot in fandoms with two men being particularly flirty. It’s a very small portion of this fandom that does this though and you see it mostly in fanfiction.
On the topic of fanfiction, i feel like it’s fuel to the fire when it comes to Larry ship. Having read some of this fanfiction on the writing site Wattpad myself all i can say is…wow. A fanfiction i read for this research was a 18 year old student louis and a 31 year old teacher harry. The story was how Louis accidentally got the wrong number from his friend and the number belonged to His teacher Mr. Styles. Even though Louis is a legal adult, this story at times felt kinda gross. They have a 13 year age gap between them. Harry’s character also had realized how wrong it was to get involved with a teenager through text. His character should’ve block louis number super quick. This writing piece also has a lot of erotica bewteen the two characters,Mind you the 13 year age gap.
I did tend to see plefera of work making one of the two a crossdresser or very feminine. I have no problem with crossdressing as gender roles suck. The writer way of writing the subject is more than less a feminization of gay men. Not all gay men are super feminine, wear dressers and put on makeup. They also always make them the submissive one, a tasteless stereotype. Writers also play into the repressed gay bully which is problematic on it’s own in the media.
There are a lot of larry fanfictions on the internet like the two I mentioned, but thinking of these being two real people make me uncomfortable on so many different levels. Thinking of this writing piece as fiction, the stories are just problematic. But these stories are not just fiction in the dictionary sense. This is a made up situation involving real people with real feelings. In addition, a big amount of writers include smut in their works which is just groteques and fetish written. Never is it authentic, people writing erotica on gay men as a fantasy kink.
As a fanfiction writer myself, i don’t think writing fanfiction, smut or non-smut, is horrible. I’d never write anything involving real people though. I do that out of respect, i would never want anyone to write that stuff about me.
A huge problem with the fandom too is not respecting louis, harry and the people around them. Fans of the ship goes as far as to say that Louis’s child, freddie, is not actually his child. Freddie is a child who is not old enough to defend himself. Shippers treat this as a way to fight for larry and non-shipper as a way to be against larry. The Treatment should be neither. They should treat none of it as gasoline for their fights.
Larries also don’t respect Louis’s girlfriend Eleanor or Harry girlfriend (now ex) Olivia. Eleanor and Olivia aren’t fantastic people and have done promblematics things, but fans are never about that, it’s just larry. In the early days of the ship there was a lot of conspiracy theories that Eleanor wasn’t real. With Olivia, people think it’s a pr stunt to make harry more famous. I don’t necessarily disagree as it just comes off as pr, being that they get pictured a lot together.
I don’t hate larry shippers though, frankly i also ship them myself. I steer towards having a parasocial boundary though. I fully support them if they are together but i don’t push them to reveal or if they aren’t together i don’t push them to be in relationship. The ship not being real just drove a big stake into Louis and Harry’s friendship.
Shippers without realizing, push louis and harry to also come out or have a label. This is a problem because people deserve to have something very private be respected. Harry identifies as unlabeled and Louis hasn't disclosed his sexuality 100%.
Theres this one video were Louis said “I'm gay, it's pretty unfortunate, Eleanor (his girlfriend)” then management tells him to be quiet that gets flown around in regards to Louis sexuality. The video comes off as him saying he's gay. From a queer person's perspective, Louis could've been joking as being gay when he's bisexual or some queer identity. I do that. It's not untrue. I think most people have the perspective it's Louis saying he's gay to Eleanor who might have feelings for him but of course he wouldn't recipicate because he's gay
I could speculate about Louis’s sexuality for hours on end but unless Louis fully confirms it by words all I can do is leave it be. It doesn't matter in the long run, it's who Louis is as a person that matters more and his music. Louis is also currently in a relationship with a girl that he keeps extremely private, for good reason too. Most fans hate on his girlfriend.
While i do think it’s possible louis could be queer and closted and that his management is telling him not to come out. Examples of this are New kids on the Block’s Jonathan Knight who was out in the industry but not to fans, he was told it would ruin him and the band’s career. Another being Lance bass who closeted felt like him being his true self would ruin Nsync’s career. It’s totally possible this is happening with louis. But no one knows except Louis
I think there could've been something between the two based on leaked videos and very frequent “conicedences” between management and how distant the two got. I just don't think it's our right to out them or treat them like fictional people without actual lives. They're people too

ranking every original song from the next star
because i can and also i've never listened to the full discography before! reminder that this is only really my opinion and that this is just for fun (not an actual serious critique lmao). also i only watched from season 5 onwards, so there may be a bit more bias to the newer seasons and songs. this will only be songs that were written specifically for the show, no songs that were released by participants after the show.
1. good as gone by melissa (charlie) storwick
C A T C H Y. it's no wonder she won with this song, with how good it is melodically and lyrically. sonically, her voice really suits it too and while it does have electronic elements to it, it's not so overpowering that it feels dated by any means. the dynamics of her vocals in the last chorus carry it higher and makes the song not feel energetic and fun. one of the best, if not THE best written and produced song on the next step
2. all i want by alex zaichkowski
you could flip a coin between this one and in my mind because they're pretty similar to me. at least musically, both really lean into the live instrument/band aspect and i eat it up. what puts this one above in my mind is slightly better writing in the chorus and a stronger bridge. i really like how this one paints a distinct image through the lyrics though, and the songwriting is definitely some of the strongest out of the songs on the show
3. in my mind by ryan hawken
the chorus of this one is so genuinely catchy. and i feel like he has the vocal chops to pull off the way it swells in the last pass of it. the verses are memorable, and really the only weak part of this song is the bridge. definitely something you could see an early 2010s boyband singing, and one of the better songs from season 5. one i find myself inclined to listen to again
4. my best friend's girl by diego gomes
does it have a ton of vocoder and voice modulation on it? yes. does it also hit insanely hard and is a party hit? also yes. i really like the simple guitar at the beginning that transitions into a more electronic sound. i also love the breakdown section/guitar solo. obviously, the lyrics are quite juvenile but they somehow work for this song? it fits and doesn't make me feel weird and in high school lmao. i also love the octave change in the last chorus. why this wasn't more of a hit? idk.
5. fever by victoria duffield
one where i'm like how the FUCK did she not win with this song. the way the chorus hits and while repetitive, isn't at all grating or annoying. i love the verses, they're so well written, and the second verse pre-chorus is genuinely one of the best parts of the song. it really set up where she was going to go as an artist tbh and i really love that. definitely a hit, and there's a reason it's probably the most popular song from the next star
6. breaking glass by kaleia simons-cook
another one where it genuinely flabbergasts me that she didn't win with this song. it fit pretty perfectly with what was popular around the time she was on the show, an edm banger, and her voice sounds so good. has top 40 hit written all over it, and i'm still a bit salty this song wasn't appreciated more
7. sparks are gonna fly by j.d. meeboer (rip)
this was the pop-punk/pop-rock song this show NEEDED. it was so refreshing to listen to, the live instruments sound great, and the breakdown is great. of course, the lyrics aren't amazing, but you can absolutely tell that there was a lot of thought put into them and that there was a story they wanted to tell using the imagery. it's catchy as hell, and definitely one i'll revisit and replay until my heart's content. my one complaint is that i wish it went a bit harder, but i'm sure live, it could be different (it is different).
8. into pieces by electric ave
the instrumental on this one is amazing, and the swagger the guys bring to the song is unmatched. it's truly been years since this song was released and i *still* remember the lyrics because that's how fucking catchy it is. instant brainworm. i love the breakdown too, and it just elevates the song going into the final chorus. everyone sounds good on the track and really, just a song you can absolutely bop to
9. we are the brave by rebel coast
such a unique song concept! the instrumental of this one might be one of the best the next step has ever done, with the excess of snares and dark sound. the vocals on this sound great, especially from kyle and curtis. i think the lyrics are pretty weak but this does have one of the better choruses out of all of the songs. replayability is high, and i have nothing more to say than this one is a bop
10. we just don't care by the season 6 top 6
a bit autotuned, yes, but never to the point of annoyance. i think the outro really sells it for me, it's just so catchy and everyone's voice is utilized well in this one. it's also not repetitive in the way now is, even though the chorus is similarly simple. the mixing is great and everyone has a moment to shine. i like the lyrics and sonically, the backing instrumentals provide just enough that it is easily one i revisit and listen to often.
11. turn it up by the season 4 top 6
are charlie, milly, april and parker's lines completely autotuned garbage? yes. but does it slay regardless? also yes. it's a certified bop, that i will always love dancing to. i think the lyrics are perfect for a dance track, and in general, i think it'll always bring good memories for me. so what if i'm a little nostalgic for this song? it's valid. it's catchy as hell.
12. better off anyway by brandon bizior
this song walked so the holy trinity of sparks are gonna fly, in my mind, and all i want could RUN. that pop-punk flair i really love is so apparent and there, and i cannot understate enough how much i love the instrumental. i didn't expect to like it this much even, but sonically it's so good. reminds me a lot of check yes, juliet by we the kings to be honest. what knocks it down here (still top 20 lmao) is just that i think the lyrics aren't as strong as the three songs i mentioned above, and there are other songs i like better. but definitely a replayable song and one that i was shocked to like so much that i want to revisit it!
13. see you again by amer dhaliwal
the chorus of this one is so catchy!!!! i really like how it's written too, and i think the melodies are really good. i would say the verses are kind of boring though, and they're cheesy as well. but amer sounds amazing singing the lyrics so does that cancel it out? to me it does. the high notes are killer and it's definitely one i can see revisiting. however, it does land here because i just like the other ones more, and they appeal more to me.
14. dreams by shania fillmore
classic tbh!!!! i love the instrumentation, and while the lyrics are very VERY cheesy, i find that shania's delivery makes them less so. she seems to really believe the message of the song lmao. it's also insanely catchy, and i applaud the decisiveness of wanting a country-pop song instead of something that might be more leaning into edm or straight pop.
15. front row by madi amyotte
i swear this song was featured somewhere and tbh even if it *wasn't*, it should've been. even though the writing is very very cheesy, it doesn't seem played into so much, like the artist genuinely believes that it's true. i also love the instrumentation and think the vocals are great. i genuinely think that this is one of the best songs, just for how catchy it is even upon my first listen. season 3 really had a great group!
16. up to us by jory zechner
wow season 7 really had some of the best production and songwriting in terms of melodies. i think the chorus carries this song but around it, there's p good lyrics and melodic tendencies. the one thing that i do dislike a lot is the spoken word bridge, but overall, the rest of the vocals are really solid. replayability factor is also high.
17. if i fall by wren burnett
i was shocked to find out how much i liked this one! i think the writing in the verses is really solid, and the chorus has a lot to it too. the instrumental is amazing and you can tell that wren has a great voice that doesn't need excess vocal modulation. i genuinely am going to revisit this one and it is definitely my favourite of the season 2 songs for sure. it's very early jojo and you know what?? not a bad thing at all.
18. the last word by briar gillis
so evanescence, so angsty. and genuinely i really enjoy it! i think that the verses have pretty good songwriting, but the pre-chorus is cheesy. the chorus could come in stronger, but her vocals overall are pretty good throughout and fit the song. i like the instrumental a lot too, and that she leaned into the live instrument thing. the belt before the last chorus is what i would want for the whole song going into the chorus.
19. it might be you by parker schmidt
okay so if we're talking on writing ALONE this one would be way down there with "the way i see you". but we're not, so i would just like to say that i really like the instrumental of this one and how catchy it is. yes there is a ton of vocoder on it, but it's a really really cute song otherwise and i think it's one of the ones with the most earwormy choruses. def a fave of mine, no matter what.
20. goodbye gravity by dante scott
i love the verses and pre-chorus of this song. the soft drop is also perfectly timed, and it's just a great dance song! it's so catchy that by the end i was singing along to the chorus, but it's also not dated. however, i can't put it in the top songs simply because the post-chorus is quite shallow and i really like other songs more
21. be your holiday by shon burnett
say what you want but this is a cute ass song. catchy for sure! while it is really shallow writing, and i really think the instrumental is grating with the brass, shon's voice is actually pretty good in this, and makes it up for it. aside from the spoken word pre-chorus of course. i would've liked this song to explore the more tropical sound in the way the bridge implies, as opposed to the brass. but like it's one that i always find myself aw-ing at
22. say u 2 by paige prescott
cheesy yes, but it's so catchy and easy to sing along to. i love her vocal on it and it sucks that during the live show, she also got sick similar to issy. but i like this song far more than issy's, just for how cute it is. it also has great background instrumentals and overall is just a bop!
23. i got a crush on you by isabelle stern
such a cute little song! i really like isabelle's vocals on this, and you can tell that she has such mature depth in her voice. again: electronic elements but it doesn't feel dated. the lyrics do make this feel a bit juvenile but at the same time, i think it works for her voice and she sings it well. i love the octave change too. definitely catchy, but it's not good enough to be pushed up into the upper echelon of songs.
24. lioness by kat moscone
the instrumental on this one really hits, and tbh saves it. outside of the verses, which come in really strong and are lyrically pretty alright, the chorus is weak and so is the bridge. i really dislike the rap bridge section, and while kat's vocals are good throughout, i just find myself drawn more to the backing track more than the melodies. it's catchy, but in a way that's definitely grating by the end of the song due to its repetitiveness
25. from the heart by amanda rowland
i wasn't expecting to like this one as much as i did! i think it works and fits perfectly with her voice, and i love the instrumental and how it builds throughout the song. it doesn't feel juvenile either, if a little bit cheesy in the lyrics. i think my one knock is that it builds so much that by the end, you can tell the vocal chops just are not there to hold it up.
26. caught up by grace johnston
i like the instrumental of this song and i absolutely love the chorus. they're both really catchy. however, i think the vocal delivery on this song is weak and really, the lyrics are pretty mediocre. it doesn't hit hard enough either. middle of the pack seems right about right for this song. i like the name drop too though.
27. without you here by tiana flegel
very hilary duff-esque. i really enjoy it, it's solid in terms of sound. and the songwriting is decent enough that it's not a bother to me! i wouldn't necessarily look for it to listen, but if it came on, i wouldn't be mad. kinda just a middle of the pack song
28. what r u doin 2 me by michaelah weekes
i don't love the chorus of this one, but the verses are really great lyrically. i think the instrumental is interesting too. but overall, there's nothing super special about this song. it just kinda feels like it's there.
29. shy by dunnery bond
again, it might just be that it's not my style, but i feel like this song sounds a bit like elevator music. it doesn't feel juvenile to me though, which is good. i think it's just cause i'm not drawn to this type of music, but overall it's really not that bad
30. gotta give a little extra by darren espanto
darren's vocals in this song are amazing, and that's genuinely the only thing that saves this one lmao. the verses are bloated with unnecessary lyrics, and the chorus is annoyingly repetitive. there's nothing even interesting going on in the instrumental. darren's runs sound great though, and you can tell he's probably the most talented vocalist (on vocal talent alone) out of all of the top 6's in the show. i wish they would've given him a better song though, so all of that could shine.
31. so hepburn by ryland clark
meh. that's really all i can say about this song. i think it's catchy enough, but i also don't find myself dancing along like with the others. it has this guitar lick that just goes on forever and never gives up, and it's quite annoying. the verses are also quite bloated with lyrics. i don't find that there's anything spectacular about this song, although i think that the concept is interesting! the songwriting also isn't great though, so it falls flat.
32. now by the season 5 top 6
a pretty shallow pop song tbh. i find the chorus a bit grating with it's repetitiveness, but i like the post-chorus. the verses are not that well written either though, and the overall mixing of their voices together wasn't done very well. definitely the weakest of the top 6 group songs, by far.
33. more by issy dahl
i could only find a live version of this, and she's very visibly sick in it tbh. chorus hits but the verses are super boring. kinda just meh. i wish there was a better version of it online because she really does kill the chorus. hard to judge because of the vocal performance.
34. solitude of sunday by darrelyne bickel
cheesy writing and boring instrumentals, really nothing i like in it. i think the vocals are really lacking too. just a boring song that has not much going for it, and isn't memorable overall in terms of the show. i won't be revisiting it. it's alright though i guess. mid.
35. insane (thru with you) by mimoza duot
ugh with mimoza's voice they could have done SO SO much more!!!! instead we get an electronic and vocally modulated song, with shallow lyrics. it also completely loses me on the catchiness factor, really does sound like something from an early 2000s movie that plays during the shopping montage. i wish we had more from her cause her vocals through all the modulation sound deep and great but...
36. everyday crazy by christina leclair
i really dislike the lyrics to this song. they feel really cheesy and they remind me of a knock-off of wonderful crazy by katelyn tarver. the backing instrumental IS good, but that's about all that is with this song. i think the vocals are alright, but it's really nothing special and i don't enjoy it in the same way i enjoy the others.
37. spotlight by april llave
it's so similar sonically to breaking glass, but i think the writing is worse, and there's an overuse of woahs and ahs in the verses. the pre-chorus really does hit, but the chorus is boring as hell with the same words repeated over and over again. the bridge is pretty bad as well. the edm backing music is interesting though, and that's probably what keeps it here and not somewhere lower. cause it is pretty catchy.
38. you better watch out for me by alicia moffet
this one is really just mid for me tbh. like i genuinely don't know why people liked it so much. i liked the message and it was a cute song, but the production is really lacking anything interesting and the lyrics aren't great either. of course, i like it better than many of the other songs but really, there's nothing special with it.
39. more perfect than a doll by lizz kellermann
the audio for this one was really bad, but i don't think that changes how bad the songwriting is either. i can see where she's coming from with this song, trying to be relateable, but at the same time, it just feels really fake. i like the vocals, but there's just not much else that draws me to this song.
40. the way i see you by brooklyn roebuck
oh wow, listening back to this one really makes you realize how HIGH SCHOOL it is. it's really not at all that catchy either. maybe it's just because it's very country and i don't love that genre, but in comparison to the other country songs on this list, it's definitely the weakest.
41. winners by jaden macphee
it might just not be my style, but i find this song really just boring and not at all catchy. the verses are quite bloated with lyrics in comparison to the chorus, which only has a few. the edm drops just aren't appealing here to me, and there's so much more they could have done with jaden's voice i feel like. he kills it on his runs, but unfortunately the rest of the song is just repetitive and annoying to listen to .
42. what we need is love by rayandra hudson
maybe it's just because of the sound quality but i really just did not like listening to this song. aside from the sound quality, rayandra sounds pretty pitchy. and it's far too reminiscent of a song like hey there delilah without the charm. it's definitely not the worst song, but not something i'd ever reach for.
43. stuck in my world by maranda thomas
i don't like the repetitiveness of the chorus nor the random people shouting things throughout the song. it's very early 2000s though, reminds me of outrageous by britney spears. i don't like that song either though, so maybe it's just the style. not one i'll be revisiting
44. do it by nissita francis
it's so cheesy and juvenile and i am cringing about it, but trying to keep in mind she was really young when she sang this. i mean it is kind of catchy, in a bad way, with just the chorus. the verses aren't really engaging and i feel like she sounds very autotuned. i really don't like the background instrumental claps either. the video is cute though! and her vocals are also good, just not her natural vocals, and you can tell.
45. if you were mine by milly benzu
the catchiest part is the "if you were mine"s and even that is really just a bright spot in a sea of edm that is bad and uncatchy. the songwriting is really juvenile and tries to have so many unnecessary drops and vocal modulation sections. i really would've just loved a song with milly's singing on it cause i know it was good, not this bs.
46. one more first chance by brock zanrosso
it's so early 2000s and so just boring. i imagine this song as a glob of wet paper mache tbh. it's just so unappealing to me, and maybe i just don't like the style, but there's something that distinctly turns me off from it. i really couldn't listen to all of it, i think the lyrics are cheesy and sonically it isn't amazing either.
47. gonna make you dance by alyssa reid
this was NOT what i was expecting from alyssa reid's debut song. it's so latin flair for no reason? there's also a really odd vocoder on her voice that's entirely unnecessary. i really question what they were going for with this song, because it's not really all that catchy either.

What is the metric of this? Most of the choices are completely fine, but some of them are way too high. I love Nobody Like U, but it doesn't function as more than a 2000s boyband parody.
Also, I'm sorry, but any inclusion of a song from Camp Rock that isn't "This is Me", is an incorrect one. Any other song is sludge in my opinion. A lot of the Disney Channel songs that are included are way too high and shouldn't even be on the list at all. They're just bland and unmemorable. I grew up watching Disney Channel in the late 2000s and early 2010s, and I didn't remember Friends for Change having a theme. Also, the exclusion of songs from Let It Shine and the Wizards of Waverly Place theme is despicable.
I will say though, I do appreciate music from the theme parks making the list. Particularly "Promise" and "One Little Spark."

Here’s the thing about him singing Still the One in 2022. When he did it at MSG in 2018 we very loudly made it about Louis. And HSHQ is just like LTHQ. They see everything. They have to because it’s their job to see everything.
So that means they know that we think that.
Harry knows we think Still the One is about Louis.
And he still did that.
Anyway glad they’re still going strong ✌🏻

Love that thing in boy bands where they all wear those completely white flowy outfits. I need to get some white pants just in case I ever need to sing a ballad to a girl at the beach on a windy day

Harry the Womanizer
This thing started because I find the whole womanizer image of Harry absolutely disgusting and wanted people to see how utterly bad and wrong it was.
Please be aware that the following does not reflect Harry’s personality but it shows us the image their label wanted him to be seen as.
Some disclaimer about where the data comes from
written, digital coverage (no print,  1-2 videos, no radio)
google search “Harry Styles”, I looked through the first 20 hits each month but didn’t read all of them ( headlines usually are a dead giveaway if an article contains a new “conquest”)
I did not list every woman that was mentioned in the same article as Harry. Also not those that showed interest in him. But most of those that were said he showed interest in (I might have skipped a few in the worst years just bc it was so freaking disgusting)
Often articles contained offhand comments about his pulling power or unrelatedly recounting his latest conquests in any given article to enforce the womanizer image. These did not make it into the list.
Deleted articles are of course not included (as of Aug 2020)
Some of the women turn up again for a round 2 (or 3 or 4), I only mention them once a year tho
I put the women into the list on the date the news coverage happened/started because many articles date back things by saying  “pics have circulated since…” “They have been reportedly seen together since…” or simply tell a story that supposedly happened a few years prior
Some dates overlap. Thats either bc they pushed several woman at once (very effective to drive the whole womanizer image home) or its bc one woman was seeded in while the other was happening.
Because this is a freaking long post, I’ll put it under the “read more”
About the list
split by years
each year has Harrys age for that given year in brackets
each data set has in brackets the age, occupation and date of news coverage for the woman (if available)
winter gf get their own category as they sometimes overlap with other woman
Some of the woman get brought back up (not just mentioned in passing), those are listed at the end of each year with the dates when they where brought back up
“again” is for those who dated him again

data from here on is not included in the graphs, I will keep adding when things happen
Tracee Ellis Ross (48, actress, 28.10.)
The age differences
Tumblr media
The graph shows clearly how
the age gaps are very big in the beginning, likely to attract an older audience in addition to the usual target audience of teenage girls
the amount of woman linked to Harry gets smaller each year because in later years, articles could just reference his history with woman
the amount of woman linked and mentioned in regards to Harry gets significantly lower after hiatus started
Tumblr media
A rough timeline of women that where connected to Harry over the years
Why give Harry the womanizer image?
Would the image of a womanizer not damage the image of 1D?
If they’d portrait him as a sleeze it would have surely damaged the overal image of 1D. But Harrys image portrait him as charming, a bit quirky and overall an airhead that likes people and doesn’t want to be tied down. Thus giving the illusion of being potentially available to every woman and showing them a good, no strings attached, time. Which is a massive selling point for boybands to increase the age range of their fans.
In addition, all his conquests would be used to stir up drama or simply generate attention at crucial times to get 1D in the press without mentioning their current promo focus in every headline.
The winter girlfriends had a special role as they were the only ones actively worked as continuous dating. To build some attachment, have a continuous storyline that could be tied to the just released album and bridge the holiday pause, and when the relationship ended generate more drama to be used for promo.
Harry did keep on using his womanizer image to promote both his solo albums but in a very controlled manner. The numbers of new woman linked to him declined to 1 in 2019, for now we are at 0 (1) in 2020
HS promo used 3 woman as inspirations for songs (Towns, Fowler, Swift) and a tour gf (Rowe)
FL promo only uses the previous tour gf as now ex to push the storyline of a breakup album
He is very visibly changing his image while still maintaining a level of connection to his old image. Whether that's due to contractual restrictions or a strategy to not alienate to many fans is unclear
Jeff Azoff
For what I’ve seen Jeff and Harry seem close (the Azoff family having him on family pictures, posted by Jeff’s brother)
Looking at the timeline of Jeff and Harry
2014-03-25 first mention of Harry at Azoff family home in an article about Irvin
2014-04-23 first pics of Harry and Jeff at a sports event (Jeff named as a friend, no name or position yet)
2014-12-22 Jeff not named yet but identified as his agent
2015-01-10 first time Jeff being named and being the link between Harry and a woman
2016-03-07 Jeff leaves CAA as a music agent and launches his own company Full Stop Management
2016-03-11 Harry confirmed to have joined Full Stop Management
Jeff likely took over as Harry’s agent in early 2014. In 2015 Harry’s image change starts to become aparent and changed drastically after hiatus.
Harry choosing Jeffs management firm as soon as he left Modest is a clear indication that he feels Jeff will represent him how he wants
The Timeline - Women connected to Harry and Promo
I started the visual timeline in end 2011 when his womanizer image started to take off
The instances before where likely used as seeding for this image (first instance was a segment in txf where he was linked to 5 of the girl contestants and funny enough one older guy)
Tumblr media
purple - women from the entertainment industry
pink - fans/no-names
lilac - winter gf
dark burgundy - thos who date him again
dusky pink - brought back up
light blue - single release
royal blue - album release
mid blue - other releases
dark turquoise - tour legs

Stupid headcanons about What if Blind Channel were Argentinian (or How to mix my latest comfort band with the cultural influences of my whole life)
The original post has links and images for all the stuff, but I'll try to put some cultural context in this for the not Latinoamerican fans. (My English is crap, but I guess someone can be interested in this nonsense).
Disclaimer: I'm basing this in the little of their personalities that I figured out with their media content, and probably some fanfic stuff that I've consumed lately (and, mostly, my taste on music and humour). Also, and it's very important, I'm ignoring the fact that growing up in Finland or Argentina must be really diferent.
The song Kilómetros from Los Caligaris would be THE SONG for them 'cause the message fit them so fucking well. And let's not ignore the fact that the band from Córdoba has big circus influences, and mess with different genres. (A live collab with them would be a mayhem, and we'd love it). "There are so many things that can get complicated, but I'd rather die than to stop dreaming" "The same is ten thousand that few people, the important thing is to transmit what we feel"
Soda Stereo would be a big rol model for their expansion beyond the borders.
Some other influences: Carajo, Catupecu Machu, Airbag, Infierno 18, Wos, Roma, Emanero, La Renga, Cabezones.
They would dream of a pogo bigger than the Jijiji one.
They'd love Asspera's cover La Motito de Carlitos (how they could not? it's hilarious and has Chop Suey)
Instead of "I Want it that Way" they would play Mambrú's A Veces. (Mambrú was a pop boyband from earlies 00's and that treasure is their biggest hit)
They'd make a cover of Don (has a iconic guitar solo)
During the promotion of Balboa, they wouldn't forget about the Rodrigo Bueno iconic show in the Luna Park (he was a cuarteto singer -a genre born in Córdoba- who help making it mainstream, and played gigs in a stadium known for the box matches).
Guilty pleasure or not, I think (at least some) the boys would like cumbia villera and the 2010's mainstream. Look, Niko sometimes fit into the aestethic, they seem to not give a fuck about prejudices, and I really enjoy that kind of music. Also, it's fun to imagine Niko playing Hoy Volví a Verte in a nice piano, or the boys dancing in a party.
Joel would wear a Sumo t-shirt, and a "Te quiero pero soy un bardo" one. (I love you but I'm a fucking mess) (Sumo was a post-punk and reggae band in the 80's)
There would be videos of Tommi singing Rata Blanca song, and Los Nocheros while driving. (Rata Blanca is a metal band with amazing songs, and Los Nocheros helped the folckoric music get into mainstream in the 90's).
Olli and Juanes's La Camisa Negra (literally, "The black shirt"). He's Colombian, I know, but his music was everywere and I really like it. Just a lot of IG stories of Olli wearing his stage gear with that song playing?
Nunca quise is the perfect song for Hokka-Porko dinamic. "I never loved anyone as much as you / That is why I begin to doubt / If we will be brothers who were separated / And we unknowingly got back together" "And I'm proud of want to break/your head against the wall"
A LOT of references to Peter Capusotto y sus Videos, and Re Heavy Re Jodido (the first one is a rock themed Argentine humoristic TV program, and "el Heavy" is a comedy character who has a very particular humor that I can't describe but is *cheff kiss*). "If I want to, I go to a Blind Channel gig and I start playing peaceful rock, 'cause I'm so tough, so heavy metal" (that's my sad attemp to make a joke like the "Heavy" ones). Also, doesn't look like the combination of ESC Aleksi and Joel? Can't get it out of my mind.

Street Dance China Season 4 Captains. Henry Lau, Han Geng, Zhang Yixing (Lay), Wang Yibo Guest staring @insidious-intent from cpop tumblr as S
S - There is so much to unpack here N - Every single one of them is going to a very different event
Henry Lau N - Henry has heard that camo print helps you blend in in the wild and wants to try it out but doesn't actually know what that is so he just got every pattern to be on the safe side E - Henry was dressed by someone who works on Disney Channel original movies N - Specifically the pre 2010s ones S - Henry looks like he's going to a boyband party in the early 2000s
Han Geng N - Han-ge is just a lesbian E - I was about to say Han Geng is just the hottest lesbian at the cook out S - Han-ge does actually look like West Village's newest butch lesbian
Zhang Yixing (Lay) E - Yixing is dressed like every single one of my punk friends in sophmore year of high school like im nearly certain i have pictures of either me or my bffs in that exact look N - It gives me bisexual energy. But he definitely bought at least half the outfit from hot topic S - I can't decide if Yixing is in the High School Musical or is trying to audition for it N - He has more of a camp rock vibe to me. High school musical was a bit too preppy
Wang Yibo E - i finally figured out what vibes Yibo is giving me. Skaa. that whole like "take classic mens dress wear and punkify it but only slightly" N - I see it. N - He's giving me this is my first cosplay vibes. I just think it looks like a knockoff version of a stylized anime school uniform E - Very much an anime school uniform N - But done badly. The cuffs are not supposed to be that big. There should be either more pins or bigger ones or spaced more closely together. The tie is also wrong. But it is his first try at cosplay so everyone is being supportive E - He's dressing up as the tsundere edgy boy from the show but he's like not ready to invest fully into crafting to make the outfit perfect S - Yibo looks like he couldn't decide between a Jackie O suit and a business casual outfit
