Cutting Down the House
I talk with a lot of novelists, and when I mention I’m a short story writer, most, if not all of them, say the same thing:
“I don’t know how you can write something so short! That takes real skill.”
Like, sure. But long form is, in my opinion, a lot harder. How you can write something so LONG? How do you fill all that space? Where do you find all those words??
But I’m not here to fawn over novelists (again). I’m here to help y’all figure out how to cut, green, trim, and slim down your prose. I’m talking short stories, flash fiction, micro fiction, and other short stacks.
(I have an obvious bias for short stories because that’s what I do the most.)
Here’s How I Write Short Fiction:
[Under the cut, because long post is looong.]
Let’s Begin
What kind of stories are short stories?
Shorts are somewhere between 1,000-10,000 words on average, less than that is Flash. You’ll see a lot of disagreement on how long a short story can be, but I recommend capping it around 10,000.  [NOTE: Most literary magazines only accept less than 10,000/8,000/5,000 word stories. It varies.]
I usually put the short story cap at around 20 pages because one time someone turned in a 30+ page story in a workshop out of spite and everyone was very salty about it.
In a more vague sense, any story can be a short story. It’s all about how you tell it. I mean, I’d pay good money to see someone shorten The Epic of Gilgamesh into a short story and make it good, but you get what I’m saying. I’ve read fairy tales, war stories, romances, holiday fluff, deadbeat father stories, midlife crisis tales, murders, you name it. If you can think it, you can do it.
The trick of the trade lies in -
Construction
How do you structure a short story?
You don’t have a lot of space, so, like poetry, you gotta make it count.
[Actually, I recommend trying out writing some poetry, or using it as a warm-up of some kind. Learn some poetic devices because that stuff is crazy helpful. I’m constantly thanking my English teachers and that one poetry class I took for teaching me how to be succinct.]
You don’t have the time to expand everything like you might in a novel. So you gotta whittle down your plot to a few basic steps. Just like an essay. (Eugh.)
I think of short stories as mini arcs. If you are a long form guru, try to think of a short like a single scene. If you’re doing scenes right, that means that each one has its own arc. Beginning, middle, end, emotional change, ending on a positive, negative, or neutral as long as it’s different from where it starts, the works. But a whole lot more localized and focused.
In my mind, a mini arc goes like this (and keep in mind, my stories are usually single location, limited cast, dialogue light, and interiority heavy):
The protagonist is in a place (physical and/or emotional) that can be changed and will change. This is your opening paragraph(s) / first page (if you’re writing a longer story, or your structure is a slow start for pacing). Start answering questions: who are they, what do they want, why can’t they get it?
Inciting incident occurs. This, ideally, happens in the first or second paragraph, no later than the end of the first page. Or before the story and is mentioned as early as possible. In short: it should happen early. A skilled writer can even throw it in the first sentence.
Rising action is as tight as you can get it. It’s more of an approach than a rise, in my opinion. Everything in this part, or these small scenes, leads to the climax and closing - we’re learning about the character(s) and their world, learning what makes them tick and how they think and how the story leads them where they need to go. In my stories, this is the longest part.
The climax point is typically closer to the end than the beginning. Sometimes it’s the last page, last paragraph, or, my personal favorite, the last sentence.
The falling action/denouement is, in my opinion, optional. If the climax happens right at the end of the story, you don’t have much room for it, maybe a sentence or two to close it. Otherwise, this is where you tie a bow around your theme(s) and exit on a mic drop.
While you’re planning your arc, keep an eye out for connective tissue, or threads. If you bring back a detail you mention early on when you’re writing the end, it’ll look like you knew what you were doing the entire time.
The fancy term for this kind of thing is rhyming action. Charles Baxter has a fantastic essay about it (I’ll link to it in the reblog). I highly recommend reading it. Here’s an excerpt that hits the point home:
“...the man... is suddenly struck with what we sometimes call déjà vu, which is only an eerie sense of some repetition, of a time spiral, of things having come around back to themselves... The effect is a bit like prophecy, except prophecy run in reverse, so that it cannot be used for purposes of worldly advancement. Prophecy run forward gives the prophet the power of forecasting and a habit of denunciation. Prophecy run backward, into rhyming action or déjà vu, gives the participant a power of understanding.”
It’s one of my favorite tricks, and once you learn it, you’ll start to see it everywhere. It’s the equivalent of a 3-part thesis statement for writers: optional, but a good structural tool to keep around.
Keeping it SS
Short Stories are Short and Sweet.
It’s all about finding a way to say what you want to say in as few words as possible. Show vs tell guidelines come in handy here, but you have to use some good judgment and decide the right moments to show and the right moments to tell.
Think about campfire stories. If they’re describing a car, they probably won’t mention any details unless they’re relevant to the plot or message. Do we care if the car is blue? No, unless the color reminds the protagonist of their ex’s nail polish, or something, and that reminder impacts the story in a significant way.
(Details are like dialogue. They advance the plot, reveal character, and/or provide a complication.)
I once read a character description that went like this: “He was the kind of man to never use two words when one would do.”
Be that man. Get the point across swiftly and succinctly. But also know when to draw a moment out. It’s a lot of back-and-forth with shorts. And, as always, it depends.
Remember: Like snakes, stories have a beginning, middle, and end. Some are tiny, some are a little bit longer. Sometimes they look cyclical. Keep your SS SS. (Get it? Ssss, like hissing? Snakes? 🐍)
What If I Need to Shorten What I Already Have?
There’s a technique called greening that you should reserve until your final draft. Basically, it’s taking out every single word that can be removed without losing any of the meaning. This includes frankensteining sentences together, removing extraneous modifiers, and leaving out that detail you like but has zero impact on anything relevant. It’s hard, it’s very hard, but it’s an amazing skill to have.
There’s a great New Yorker article about it, which I will also link to in the reblog.
Have any specific short story questions?
Shoot me an ask! I’ll do my best to help you out! I write lots of short stories and used to be the fiction editor for a literary magazine, so I’ve got all that juicy editor know-how.
Questions? Ask ‘em! Comments? Make ‘em!

Ok so as a baby adult in the making, i need help and you are very approachable. How do i put together a good resume. Also in terms what are some things i really need to know. So far im doing way more research into how im supposed to apply for jobs and health insurance/ how to file taxes then I really assumed I would. Im not very financially independent and cant really afford collage, or to live on my own for that matter. How do i do adult things, im floundering and just panicking.
So for resumes, it’s best to keep a living resume as you work. I think you mentioned the other day that you haven’t really worked before/don’t have past job experience, I think what I included for mine at that point was an education section listing where I was currently going to school and what my running GPA was at the time. In another section  any programs I was in (I was in JROTC, marching band, and national honors society at the time), and then a section for my current skills. I’m a little bad at like... explaining resume advice but these links are pretty accurate in explaining and giving decent examples for when you don’t have a lot of present experience!
The thing about resumes is that you want to have, as I said before, a living document keeping track of your qualifications as they come and go. When you get a job, pull up your resume document and mark down the job title, employer, and date, as well as at minimum a brief description of what you do and your direct supervisor’s name. (I’d also recommend keeping a note of that supervisor’s contact information--when you apply to a new job later, sometimes they’ll want to be able to call your past employers to see what you’re about) When you leave that job, add the date you left. Do this for EVERY job. Also do this for any volunteer experiences you may take part in. Make sure you have at least two backups of this living doc up to date and saved in different locations at all times. You’ll thank me later.
When you go to apply to a new job, don’t just print off your living resume doc. Open a brand new document, maybe pick a nice resume style off the word templates (if it looks fun, I’d advise against it--in general, you want a neat, sleek-looking design), have your living resume doc open in the background, and transcribe the relevant information over and rewrite your objective statement to suit the new position. For the time being until you get more experience, you’ll want to include all your work experience, but later down the line, your position at the ice cream shop won’t look that impressive among other jobs, so you’ll have to choose to leave it off then. You should NOT keep a physical copy of your resume on hand, because each resume should be different depending on the job.
For actually applying, check online to see if the place you’re applying to has online applications! If they do, do it there. If they don’t, put on something nice but not too nice, walk in to the location, and ask whether they’re hiring/if you can get a job application. Often they’ll tell you if there’s some special circumstances like, oh you should bring this back to this specific place in the store, but usually, it’s enough to hand it in to a cashier and they’ll know who to bring it to!
Before you get a job interview, practice confident body language and a confident tone. Things like making sure you have a good posture, sitting with your hands folded a certain way, making eye contact even though it sucks and makes you wanna die, etc.. I can’t find the post, but askamanager has helpful resources to actually find and land a job!
I try to craft a solid worksona for job interviews. Basically, you find a balance between the kind of worker they’re looking to hire (for a cashier job: friendly, can hold a conversation, maybe a bit traditional) and still showing that you have, like, an actual personality. And make sure you prepare for the job interview. Askamanager has an article on that, too. It’ll help, trust me.
I don’t know much about health insurance, so I can’t in good conscience advise you there! But taxes are fairly easy, if a little anxiety-inducing. Use a program like turbotax, but do NOT pay for it. The free version works perfectly fine for filing taxes. If something you do, like working or going to school, affects your tax filing, they will almost always send you a tax form with all of the information you’ll need. If you’re not sent a tax form for something, it’s safe to assume that you don’t need to file taxes on it (in my experience). Keep track of any educational spending or major life changes throughout the year anyway. For example, I have to buy textbooks for school. I have to keep track of, and report, how much I spend on those textbooks on my taxes, otherwise I might miss out on a tax break for them. If you get a scholarship for college, write it down. Your college will give you a form that has that information, but write it down anyway. Keep it in a notebook or spreadsheet on a secure computer or using a cloud service like OneDrive. For the most part, though, doing taxes with TurboTax is as simple as reading the form you were given and putting information in boxes.
The company that owns TurboTax also has a program called Mint! It allows you to link your bank accounts and lets you easily budget, track your spending, and even allows you free checks of your credit score that won’t negatively impact your score. I get an update once a month on my credit score and what factors are impacting it how.
Speaking of, once you’re old enough, you’re going to want to start building your credit. What I recommend doing is taking out a credit card, only using it for a specific thing, and then paying it right away. For example, when you have a car, using your credit card to buy gas and then immediately paying that gas purchase off. This will let you build up credit so that later, you can take out loans with lower interest rates and are more likely to be approved for loans.
This is getting a bit long-winded, so I’m going to say one more thing and then call the post for the time being! I think it’s really important to remember that most people don’t know what they’re doing either. I mean it. I helped at least two of my friends’ parents do their taxes this year. Everyone’s just kind of muddling through all this big important adult stuff and pretending they know what they’re doing, but it’s okay to google things you don’t know the answer to, ask questions, and be confused. In some cases, it’s deliberately confusing. Fake it ‘till you make it and kick some ass. I know you can.

Getting Through Brutally Difficult Reading Comp Passages About the Arts
Tumblr media
If you’ve done any LSAT from the last five or so years, you’ve certainly realized that the Reading Comprehension section can be brutally difficult. The LSAT as a whole has gotten slightly more difficult in the last few years, but neither the Logical Reasoning nor Logic Games sections have become quite as fearsome as Reading Comprehension. And three types of passages almost always give their readers the most trouble: passages about science, the law, and the arts. Unfortunately for us all, basically every LSAT has at least one passage on science, at least one passage about the law, and at least one passage about the arts.
If you’ve been recently tearing out your hair as you attempt to read through dozens of these seemingly impenetrable passages, you’ve read enough lately, so I’ll just cut straight to the point: in a three-part series, we’re going to discuss what makes these passages so difficult, and what we can do to make them a little less formidable. We began this series by focusing on passages about science, and last week we discussed passages about the law. Today, we’re concluding this series by looking at passages about the arts, and offering some final advice about difficult passages in general.
We’ve discussed the reasons why science- and law-themed Reading Comp passages can be tough — most pre-law types don’t have a totally great understanding of how those things work. But why are passages about the arts supposedly difficult? I mean, most of us have at least a passing interest in some art, even if our aesthetic tastes don’t get much more refined than Netflix’s original content and the top songs on the music streaming platform of our choice. Plus, the arts are supposed to be enjoyed — we shouldn’t be suffering through these passages. And yet, the art-themed Reading Comp passages are among the most reviled on this test. What gives?
Well, if I may be blunt, the people who write these art passages seem to have a bit of an intellectual inferiority complex, so they’ll attempt to flex their knowledge and expertise by using big words to convey relatively simple ideas. (This, of course, is a favorite trick of those who write the Logical Reasoning questions as well.) So how can we deal with these over-written passages?
Try your best not to get lost in the big words. Don’t be scared off by them. Use context clues. Generally speaking, just knowing whether the author’s general opinion of the subject matter is positive or negative is all you need. (Though you should be dutifully looking up every word you don’t know when you’re reviewing these passages — expanding your vocabulary can only help you on the LSAT, law school, and your career.)
Still, if the morass of verbose, abstruse, recondite, or otherwise grandiloquent language still presents an issue for you, fret not. The art passages tend to reiterate the same themes. Historically, we’d get a ton of passages about some unconventional artist or group of artists doing something wacky with their painting, literature, music, sculpture … you name it. Nearly every time, the author would — as the online might say — stan the unconventional artists and the innovative thing they were doing.
In such passages, there were usually two crucial points you had to catch to answer most questions: what were the key characteristics of the art (and, on a related note, what made it unique or otherwise noteworthy) and what was the author’s opinions of that art. So to answer the questions on such passages, just make sure you have a very solid understanding of what the artists were doing and how their art was different from the conventional approach of their time (it can help to actually imagine what the art looks like) and what the author thinks about that art (again, the author is usually a fan).
More recently, however, these passages have focused on the nature of the art. Some passages have discussed different artistic media — such as the passage about the corruptibility of film in June 2019 — while others have discussed certain artistic genres — such as historical fiction/autobiography, 1930s musicals, opera, or, in a meta twist, what defines genres themselves. These passages are less about individual works of art or artists, and more about the formal characteristics or rules that define these genres, what artists operating within these genres must consider, or how to evaluate art produced within these genres.
These passages are less predictable than the older passages about unorthodox artists — yet another reason why Reading Comprehension has gotten more difficult in recent years, maddeningly — but tracking the author’s attitude is still incredibly important. The last five published exams all featured arts passages that discussed specific genres of art; of the thirty-six questions from these passages, twenty-one related to the author’s opinion in some way. We recommend keeping track of the author’s attitude by underlining the words that convey the author’s opinion as you read. The rest of the questions mostly asked about how the passage was structured. You can keep track of that by making brief notes about the role played by each paragraph in your provided scratch paper .
A Final Note
So these posts provided are our recommendations on how to endure the brutal passages about science, the law, and the arts. However, I must end with a caveat: I can’t guarantee that the science, legal, or art passage on your exam will all conform to the recent trends mentioned in these posts. Nor can I guarantee that the specific pointers included in these posts will apply to those passages on your exam.
But there is a strategy that I promise will help you on any passage, even the most brutally difficulty passages on science, the law, the arts, or whatever else. This strategy has a 100% success rate, and I can guarantee that it will be applicable on your exam. That strategy? Slow the hell down as you read the passage.
Now, I know advising you to not only slow down, but to slow the hell down, on a timed test may seem counterintuitive. It may even make me sound like I’m engaging in educational malpractice, and that I’m disqualified from offering any further advice on this test. But before dismissing this advice, let’s do some math related to the time you actually have on a Reading Comprehension section …
Most Reading Comprehension sections have about 4500 words in total, including the passages, the questions, and all the answer choices. The average adult’s reading speed is about 200 to 250 words per minute. But since you’re taking the LSAT, you are — statistically speaking, in all likelihood — a recent college graduate with a non-STEM major. Which means you read (or, at least, you were supposed to read) far more than the average adult. You’re also likely between the age of twenty-two and twenty-four, which means you’re functioning close to your cognitive peak, information processing- and short term memory-wise. It’s safe to say that your reading speed is at least 300 words per minute. (Congratulations, by the way, for possessing this exemplary skill — even if it’s based entirely on assumptions some blogger is making about you.)
If your reading speed is about 300 words per minute, and there are about 4500 words in this section, it should take you about fifteen minutes to read the entire Reading Comp section, cover to cover (well, the digital version of the test doesn’t technically have covers, but you get the point). You have thirty-five minutes to complete this section. Ergo, you have about twenty extra minutes you can use to … say it with me … slow the hell down.
The reason people experience timing issues on Reading Comp is not because they don’t have enough time to read or process the information. There’s plenty of time to do that, even if you read more slowly than the average adult. The reason people experience timing issues is because they don’t know the answers to the questions. Because they don’t know the answer when confronted with a question, they have to go back to the passage and re-read large swaths of it trying to locate the answer. That’s the real time suck. This is maybe an obvious point, but on Reading Comp, it’s a crucial one.
When people try to speed up on Reading Comp, the most common strategy is to read the passage more quickly. This is a misguided strategy. For one, it’s an attempt to fix a non-existent problem. Remember, we just did the math to prove you have plenty of time to read the passage and questions. Plus, whatever slight gains reading more quickly provides are more than offset by the extra time you have spend answering the questions, since the reading the passage more quickly means you won’t have as many answers to those questions. Finally, reading passages more quickly can only hamper your accuracy on the questions, which means you’ll likely lose points in the end.
The answers to the questions are invariably in the passage itself. So you should read that passage slowly and carefully. Try to use some of the tips in these posts on the inevitable science, law, and arts passages; odds are that at least some of them will help you. But most of all, take your time to make sure you understand the passage. It’ll pay off in the end.

Readings
Tarot • 30 minute interactive tarot reading available on Etsy: This option is perfect for most kinds of readings (general, love, career, spiritual path, conflict resolution, personal growth, etc) and is probably the one you want.  Please note that while this is a 30-minute reading, the time it takes me to type up the initial spread is NOT included in that thirty minutes. This means you should plan for at least one free hour to give yourself time to ask follow-up questions and not feel rushed. Most readings last between 45-60 minutes.
• Past life readings now available on Etsy: I still require that we discuss beforehand via messages or email so I can gauge your expectations and get a general idea of what timeframe would be suitable for the reading. The minimum amount of time past life readings is one hour. As with all my readings, this doesn’t include the time it takes for me to type the initial spread (that is free). You should plan for a minimum of 2h free if we’re doing a live reading, most readings take between 90-120 minutes. If the reading looks like it is going over the 2h mark and there is still a lot of information or questions to go over, you will need to purchase an additional 30 minutes at the usual rate. I will always warn you when we are approaching our time so you can decide whether or not you would like to wrap up the reading or continue further. Please note these readings can be very intense, and sometimes it is better to stop at the 2h mark and do a follow-up reading at a later date so you have time to absorb all the information. Follow-up readings are also charged as regular 30-minute readings, so you can purchase those via the Etsy link above.
Here’s what you get in a past life reading:  - Positive and negative personality traits - General overview of life path - Traits that have been carried over (good and bad) - Unresolved issues affecting your current life - Suggested methods for resolution
It’s important to note that this covers one past life only, and if you would like to know about other past lives you will need to purchase them separately. I don’t recommend doing more than one of these in the same day. We can get an idea roughly how many past lives you have in the session if you would like, but please be aware that the issues which are carried over from one life to the next are usually the same and it’s not usually necessary to go through all your past lives to resolve those issues (of course, if you would like to do it just because you’re curious that’s totally fine!).
• Shorter readings, single card readings, etc: I prefer in-depth readings, but if you’re really intent on having a one-card reading feel free to send me a message and I may say yes. Honestly, this is entirely mood-based so I can’t give any guidelines on when I will or won’t allow these. If the issue is that you don’t have enough money for a full reading, just let me know and we can look into whether your questions are appropriate for a short reading or if paying in installments would be a better idea.
• Spirit communication: See the section on Spirit and Death work
• What to expect during a reading:  Before the reading we’ll discuss what you would like to find out. I shuffle the deck and you tell me when to stop so I can cut the deck and draw the spread (this may vary depending on the type of reading).  Most of my readings start with a 3-card spread adapted according to your question. I type out the reading for the first three cards, and from there you may ask clarifying questions and I will draw more cards as needed.  I will send you photos of the initial spread, and follow-up photos if clarifying cards were drawn. After the reading you may request a PDF containing a transcript of our chat and the spread photos for future reference. I will send you a link to a review form once the reading is complete, as they help me improve my readings and also provide testimonials for potential customers.
Fire Scrying available on Etsy
This method is very different from tarot and is most suited to general readings, getting direction in spiritual or arcane matters. It can also be great for “what do I need to know right now” type readings. The readings normally consist of images and impressions that I can provide limited interpretation for, and which makes sense to the customer when it is related. Please let me know if you’re not sure whether a fire scrying reading is suitable to your question and I will help out. When you purchase a fire scrying reading, it is a 20-minute session where I do the reading and afterwards I will type it up and send it to you by email. This is not an interactive reading, but I can answer clarification questions if the information was available during the reading.
Other Methods
At this time I offer tarot and fire scrying exclusively. I will eventually be offering other methods such as runes, egg reading, tea reading, shufflemancy, favomancy, and others. This space will be updated when those are available.
Rules in Regards to Divination
For the most part, there is always a way to ask the question so that it is appropriate, doesn’t invade anyone’s privacy, and doesn’t make false predictions. Don’t worry about what your questions are and whether or not they’re “okay”, I will discuss with you the best way to word the question so we can get to the answer you’re looking for. I will also be able to gauge your expectations and advise you on the limits of the reading.
Spells, Sigils, and Other Items
I offer custom spells, sigils, and in the future will be able to provide other items depending on your needs. These are on a case-by-case basis and priced accordingly. They are tailored to your needs, your level of experience and comfort, and your abilities. Full instructions are provided in a PDF file, but you may also request a guided session if you feel more comfortable. Please note that I do not perform spells on your behalf. The goal is to help you through it the first time and answer any questions you may have, so that next time you feel confident enough to do it yourself and without fear or anxiety.
The options in order of price:  • Step-by-step instructions, you gather the ingredients yourself • Step-by-step instructions, I gather the ingredients and ship them to you • Either of the two options, plus accompaniment during the spell/ritual/etc via text chat, email, or over the phone.
These are all completely custom, and will be tailored to suit your craft, beliefs, etc. If you have any specific needs such as being home-bound, working within a certain budget, closet-witch, allergies, etc, please let me know so I can adjust accordingly. Please be aware that if you’re working with a tradition that is closed, partially closed, initiatory, etc, I may not be able to assist. If this is the case, I will refer you to someone more appropriate.
Spirit and Death Work
A significant portion of my practice involves working with various entities (spirits, demons, local gods, homunculus and thought form creation) as well as working with death and the energies surrounding it. I do not work with helping the spirits of the dead cross over or assisting lost souls.
 • Spirit communication:  I can provide help with establishing communication paths between you and your guiding spirits. My preferred method is via a 30-minute tarot reading, where I will act as the messenger between yourself and the spirit. The goal of this session is to determine how you can engage with your spirit directly, rather than relying on a third party (i.e. me). This type of reading is specifically for guiding spirits or spirits trying to enter into contact with you for whatever reason. I do not provide readings to communicate with passed loved ones unless those options are applicable.
Avenues of discussion may include:  - Your spirit’s preferred method of contact - Signs to look out for that may indicate your spirit is trying to communicate with you - Ways to strengthen the bond to your guiding spirit so as to facilitate and encourage communication (offerings, ways to worship, locations that bring you closer, etc) - Any messages that need to be imparted at the time - Any questions the querant has for or about their guiding spirit
On the topic of “Spirit Adoption”: I’m not interested in getting involved in any kind of discourse on the topic, but I do not offer this service for communication between “adopted” spirits from these centers and you. Firstly because this service is meant for conversations between yourself and guiding spirits, but secondly because I’ve yet to see any of these shops not be a complete scam. At best you’re getting a thoughtform, which isn’t a bad thing but is certainly a false representation of what they’re selling, and at worst you’re getting a completely unvetted spirit and inviting them into your home and life with potentially disastrous consequences. I’m not saying all of these places are necessarily scams, but I’ve yet to see one that is doing what it says it’s doing. That’s all I’m going to say about that.
• Homunculus and Thought Forms: The information listed under the “Spells and Sigils” section is applicable here. I do not create these on your behalf, but I can walk you through the process and assist you with how to do it. The goal is for you to learn and become comfortable with it the first time around, so any subsequent instances you are able to do this on your own and confidently.
Potential Hauntings, Curses, etc
I get asked about this all the time, so I’m just going to put the information here for future reference:  The chance that you or your family have been cursed to the point of causing actual consistent and severe damage is extremely unlikely.
If someone is telling you your house, job, family, wife, child, etc is cursed and you have to pay for their services to get rid of that curse, there is a 99% chance this person is full of shit and out for your money.
So, if you’re concerned about being potentially cursed or hexed or haunted by demons or whatever, feel free to message me and I will give you COMPLETELY FREE instructions on what to do. Spoiler, the instructions are almost always the exact same and involve some elbow grease, zero priests, and under $20 worth of supplies. You’re welcome.
Group Seminars, Mentoring, Consultations
I have started giving group seminars via select Discord servers. Free classes are available at my discretion. Group classes can be requested and will be held on temporary servers. These require a minimum of 4 people attending and will be posted publicly so others can join. Price of admission will be $5 per person, with an option to buy an admission for someone else to allow people who can’t afford it to attend. Format of the seminar will depend on the subject, some will be more along the lines of guided discussion whereas others will be hands on and may require some materials (if this is the case it will be indicated in the sign-up post, and I will provide the lowest-cost alternative every time). I obviously won’t hold classes on things I don’t feel I have enough experience to teach, so please understand if I decline a request it’s for a good reason. Topics I am comfortable with include but are not limited to: intuitive tarot reading, how to read tarot professionally, how to deal with “craft”-block, working with various deities, adapting spells from old grimoires or folk practices, how to write your own spells.
I won’t do any form of mentoring online. I’m happy to answer questions, but I don’t have the time currently to dedicate to one single person and I feel that kind of thing is best done in person anyway.
Consultations are handled on a case by case basis. I can consult in matters that are related to finding your path, figuring out next steps, honing your skills, achieving certain goals, etc. If the area you’re interested in isn’t something I know about or feel sufficiently confident in assisting with, I will decline.
Trades
I may allow trades in place of cash payment. Trades must be of equal value.  I do not accept reading/divination swaps. I’ll accept artwork or physical items in exchange, but please contact me first so we can work something out. The types of items I’m always looking for include: herbs/spices of most kinds, dried flowers, seeds for various plants, bottles (always), art supplies (always), statuettes, crystals (very rarely). I may be interested in weird random junk, books, materials of all kinds, so honestly your best bet is to just ask and I’ll let you know if it’s something that would interest me. On the topic of artwork, this is VERY case-dependent as I’m usually pretty picky so if this is something you want to offer, please provide your portfolio up front and a backup trade option. Declining an art trade is by no means a reflection or your abilities as an artist, I just tend to look for a very specific range of styles and designs so please don’t take it personally at all!
