First off, congrats on three years, girlie!! This is so cool, man. I love seeing Soulsborne games change people’s worlds and give them passion and inspiration for years afterwards <333

Asfghajsdg but in all seriousness, I love that we both started getting active around the BB tumblr fandom around the same time, because even though I was a Soulsborne junkie, I had never found a stable group of lore-friends to enjoy it with, and throughout 2020-2021, I was just drifting aimlessly after watching my old fandom community collapse.

I had been only using tumblr for random shit on another account before this one, but one day I looked up something about the Doll and Gehrman, kinda wondering if the whole “Even the Doll” creep-theory had any other interpretations. I just didn’t like the idea that Miyazaki had written his main “sad old man” of Bloodborne to be a weirdo because it didn’t sound…right? Something felt really off lol. His “sad old men” types usually are dark because of their grave mistakes that led to the deaths of people they cared about/innocent people.

It’s always more tragic than it is gross, and Miyazaki is big on that type of story-telling. He likes his refinement. Sure enough, that gave me the hunch that the Doll wasn’t…ya know.

And voila! I stumble across your brilliant post! I think it was one of the things that made me finally create a Soulsborne blog because I wanted to reblog it. I’m not sure if that’s the exact timeline, but it was definitely part of what drew me over here.

And now here we are, going strong, trying to move on after going through fandom drama hell, and it’s been three years!

Girl you say this, but at the almost same time, Fantomette also started scouting the fandom and figured she wanted to stick with me over that post :pensive: That post makes me extremely nostalgic! It was just... so chill, so nice, so leveled. 0% fatigue. Where did that nice version of me go and who is this angry unlikeable bitch typing this ask response now? xD

But yeah, overall, Soulsborne games are just written in such a way that it genuinely helps to know all of them on at least basic story level to understand each of them individually! The more I learned about reoccuring themes in other games in the series, the better my lore understanding became. You know I would not do shit on Research Hall and Deep Sea without DS3, or better grasp ER characters without entire DS trilogy! If you don't want to play, just learn their themes and story, I promise it helps a lot!

Anyways thank you for the nice words; I had not even noticed how fast the time went by! It feels like I have not done "enough" considering three years span, but maybe I am underestimating myself and focusing too much comparing amount of my drawings compared with faster and more talented artists. After all, fandomry is first about discussions and passion, and I've had nothing BUT that on the way x) So yeah, let's just give up and die watch fandom crash and burn. Because, you know what? THE very "system" that made it crash and burn to begin with will also, eventually, crash and burn, and something good will sprout from the ruins. And we won't miss it! Except, that good era will also crash and burn eventually. And then the thing that destroyed it will. And then what people build from THOSE ruins will. And then another thing... and another thing... and another thing.....

the unholy amount of details in your art is impressive :o how do you keep it up? are your eyes ok? is there a secret? are you a wizard? im just jealous bc i have eyesight issues lmao

Oh, well, this is hard to explain actually... The main reason is that Bloodborne has very detailed designs as is, and my brain will not let me rest well at nights until I got every little thing JUST right! xD It takes a lot of time to ensure I got details right, but that's just how I roll.

So yeah, my secret is just perfectionism </3 I presume you sent anon after that Rom drawing display or so? She has many branches with glowbuds on them and is COVERED in eyes and has grass at the tips of her tails, so I was just... repeating this. In drawings, I tend to appreciate every single detail about character there is, no matter how minor or at times maybe not very pretty. I also have this WIP with the faces of like 130-something Bloodborne characters' faces drawn that started as self-reference - and I try to factor every face "imperfection" they have (if shown in canon) or add some fitting ones (if never shown).

And I do not know how alright my eyes are? I've got strange eye issue back in early 2020, weird 'grey' spots in my eyes around which details ALSO 'distort' - it was very hard to read through this at first, plus I still see some numbers and letters wrong (usually numbers next to each other switching places and I realize too late). Doctor outright said there was irreversable damage by some infection that 'burned' places in my retinas and that it "isn't clear whether you go blind in 2 months of 2 years or in 20 years or never". Well... Clearly, 2 months and 2 years predictions failed yet, so hopefully there will be other 18 years. x)

It is very hard to explain what exactly I did, but I was training myself to tilt my head in a specific way to still see the details I needed, and over time I could more or less look through these 'spots' - as you've noticed, detalization in my drawings didn't suffer! The spots are more blurried than grey either now... Either 1) the 'irreversable' was doctor's mistake or...... 2) I was blessed with eyes but OUTSIDE of my brain to draw my stuff, LOL!

Indeed sorry but i still don’t have much on Simon (still have a few headcanons i can think of lmao)

First have the 2 ever drawings i did of him. One from july the and the other one from may of last year xD yep of my first bb drawings ahah.

Ok so yeah he’s quite a nuanced character that at the same time : intrigued me, touch me a lot emotionally ;-; , and that i kick the ass of in my 2nd playthrough.

🏹 I guess he’s s foreigner? He would come from a Persian/india type of country. (Yes i ask some friends really good in history what they thought of the weapon design and they told me it was probably that and also inspired by the kriss/kress from Indonesia & Pthumerian & Logarius have really similar weapon to it).

🏹 He’s really bad with firearm and hate the loud sound/ step back it cause. And he probably trained with bow since he was a kid.

🏹 Back where he came from, he was used of walk without shoes on sand etc so that don’t bother him after he become the harrowed.

🏹 He was a bit lost at first in Yharnam but wanted to joined the church hunters. (He arrived a few years after the hamlet thing). He met Ludwig who took him under his wing.

🏹 He prove himself and gained the trust of his superiors so he become a "harrowed" disguised himself as a mere beggar to detect symptoms of beasthood before people transformed. But then he become preoccupied who figure something was. weird... he needed to know what the church was hiding... what was their plan. Why take all this measures?

🏹 He did meet Maria a couple of times but didn't know her well. He know she used to be a hunter. But when he tried to gained some informations about the experiments or the church history + take a look at the archives she was really adamant to share anything. If she was around, poke in some papers is really the last thing you wanna do. (I mean it would be worst with other, you could get into trouble Simon!)

🏹 Actually, there was a time where Brador and him work together and it went well. Pretty ironic after knowing how that end...

🏹 Speaking of that: one day Gehrman disappear living a lot of his belonging at the workshop (some times after Maria passed away).. Laurence got worried and sent many people to try to find him. (Ludwig went into the underground, some people went at Byrgenwerth etc) and Simon & Brador (& maybe 1-2 other) were send next to a lost and abandoned hamlet next to the sea... they found him sitting on the shore. Exhausted, wet and cold but alive.

So that's why Simon become really curious towards the lost place and manage to find some papers that weren't destroyed and learn some dark secrets... That + what happened at the research hall some times earlier that definitely made him turn his back towards the church afterwards, he wanted to learn the truth and discovered what was behind everything. And perhaps managed to stop this entire mess. (+ the freaking Amygdala who died in the middle of Yharnam ahah)

🏹 I guess he might knew the 2nd harrowed guy (the one at the hamlet where we got the set.

🏹 He probably participate in killing Ludwig in real life 😢 he discover what happened but compared to Yamamura, Gratia etc either he wasn't put in a cell thanks to his status or he managed escape.

🏹 I am unsure how he ended up in the hunter's nightmare... an amygdala? He is dead in real life? hm...

Also could be funny if he's afraid of the dark and that's why he got a lantern ahah

And yep that's all for now. Probably forgetting lot of thing.

At the peril of drowning you completely in bloodborne asks, after reading your previous post re laurence's transformation i just have to ask about who as per your headcanon killed him Like, was it a named character, or a bunch of random hunters, or a particularly pissed off domestic worker armed with a candleholder? There are a lot of ideas floating around, and I just NEED to know the opinion of one of the most prominent laurencoligists out there

i was drowning in them before you came along so don’t worry, anon. they do get me to sit down and make a little time to doodle every day, which is a welcome practice. (also going to out myself a little here, but as someone who shares his namesake, I don’t even know what to do with the word laurencoligist lmao) As for Laurence’s death, I don’t have a super-solid headcanon for it quite yet, but my preference is for Ludwig in a very classical tragedy, peak dramatic irony sort of way (and I think that’s the noblest death you could give him, at the hands of Ludwig); but I’m not against the idea of Brador in his dogmatic zeal and obedience to the Church, as I’ve seen him characterised before, doing it because Ludwig can’t bring himself to. Or alternatively, Ludwig arriving too late and finding Brador with blood on his hands already. That the beast hide he wears might be Laurence’s seems plausible in this feverishly fanatical way.

my 30-second doodle of Brador. (is that even what the Bloodletter looks like? I should know, as I've been killed by it before.) But I wouldn’t want to throw away the narratively valuable gut-punch of Laurence, the first vicar and figurehead of the Church for decades, executed without dignity by a roving band of Hunters or townsfolk, half-crazed in their bloodlust, who don’t know any better. That’s got storytelling value in and of itself.

(Also if you take too long to respond this ask I will cast a curse on you that will make every pizza slice you hold to sprout pineapple pieces from within AHAHAHAHA! When I am late to reply - this is stress and busy life, when you are late to reply - this is being lazy booboo the fool xD)

This is a hard one for me!!! I am not the shippiest of people (I am more for different scenarios than fixed ships more often than not), but I shall try my best! They aren't in any particular order.

5) Gatekeeper x Dores

This one makes sense but basically no one ships them because they are two obscure characters that don’t really impact the story all that much. Fully reasonable lmao. Sadly, I am ALL for obscure characters so they did not escape my radar. I just think they’d have a very fun dynamic, seeing as she is feral and creepy while he is incredibly paranoid and strict. They are into some weird ass shit too, after all they are both insane lol.

4) Damian x Micolash

It was pretty much one of the introductory ships lmao, and it makes great sense too. I view Damian as one of Micolash’s greater enforcers and perhaps even enabler. He is kind of Micolash’s muscle because the scholar wasn’t particularly strong back in the day, and his power only comes from close contact with the Arcane. Damian was probably the least disposable of the people in Yahar’gul which is saying something when it comes to Micolash lol. This one doesn’t end very well though, as the two of them part ways after Damian finally listens to his conscience...

3) Brador x Laurence

This ship has some veeeery good angst potential, and that is one of the aspects that draws me to it. Brador would do anything for Laurence, and the vicar is incredibly greatful for it, despite this attitude somewhat spoiling him in the long run. However, I don’t picture this ship as reciprocated, Laurence only views him as a close, devoted friend, and Brador accepts this despite wishing for so much more... of course he is driven mad by having to kill Laurence, and vows to keep his name and legacy clear for as long as he lives and even beyond. It’s some inhuman dedication that Laurence will never bear witness to.

2) Rom x Ebrietas

It’s one of the more “abstract” of these ships since it’s probably really hard to understand a being like Ebrietas... however, she seems to have a connection with the Rom-like body, mourning it. I believe that to be Rom’s real world body, meaning Ebrietas had to be fond of her at some point. This becomes even more interesting when taking into account that all clues point to Rom having been human(oid) at some point and ascending. A being like Ebrietas caring for something so insignificant to her... even the Choir seems perplexed, wondering why she'd even weep for something like Rom. I think that’s really sweet, if not incredibly sad too... (I do not ignore that Rom could also be her surrogate child of sort, but Great Ones marrying mortals isn’t something entirely new, so who knows for sure?)

1) Two particular Yurie ships

Lol lmao. I could not choose between the ones I have. I’ve always appreciated Yurie, and thinking back at some of these ships makes me feel a bit fuzzy inside. They go waaaay back! The one that makes the most sense is of course her relationship with Rom. I imagine them being very close, and their bond being one of the reasons why she still protects her in Byrgenwerth. If Rom had any importance to the Choir as a whole, they’d probably send more of their ranks to protect her, but it’s just Yurie on her own. Another one is with Damian, and this one is pretty strange I admit ahah... it was a crackship of sorts, but I could ALSO see the potential in it, with both of them having fled their institutions to find themselves in the emptied halls of Byrgenwerth, reflecting upon their mistakes and perhaps bonding over them. Of course the only thing she CAN’T give up is Rom, so when Damian shows up with a curious hunter in tow, she knows what they are there to do and she won’t allow it.

Well, you may have noticed that these ships are all tragic (except Dores & Gatekeeper lol) and DON’T have happy endings... yeah that sounds about right for a Soulsborne game ahah, wish I could be less of a downer but the source material won’t let me :(

A compillation of Bloodborne characters data and model bits

I just decided to put as many bits about Bloodborne chaarcters as possible in one post, so to not have to check multiple folders every time I want to draw a character, but I thought it could be handy for other artists/writers! The following references feature the data mostly gathered by awesome Zullie the Witch but maybe also some others. I use the NPC data for the characters but also some model references, all put in one post.

1) Here are all the exact colors from NPC data gathered on one image.

They are gathered from this ( x ) sliders page, all in one image for the convenience. The white hovering effect over eyes color means ‘clouded’ eyes effect that the player cannot access in normal character creation, and the X mean that hair is missing (I did not count ‘bald’ eyelashes variant as one though).

1.1) Almost all characters with brown skin have strange ‘reddish grey’ eye colors. Such characters are Henryk, Djura’s Ally, Yahar’gul hunter with Cannon and Ludwig’s Riffle, Yahar’gul character with Threaded Cane that uses Tiny Tonitrus (and ambushes you from the corner like a rat lol), Olek, Simon, Djura’s Apprentice and Yahar’gul hunter that’s trapped in Church’s chambers.

Exceptions are Afflicted Beggar who instead has hazel eyes and Yahar’gul Hunters that use Tonitrus (in Cathedral Ward) and one that uses Beast’s Claw, who instead have simply grey eyes (and share face data). Interestingly, this red-grey color appears to be exclusive for characters with brown skin.

1.2) Adella’s hair is dark brown, not black. It is hard to see even on this image.

1.3) Tomb Prospectors have strange skin tones. Josef and Forgotten Madman have more purpl-ish skin tone, with his escord having it too but closer to blue on the color spectrum, Vitus and Queen Killer have greenish skin, Wallar has bluish skin. Olek seems to be the only one with realistic skin tone, it is simply dark olive / brown.

1.4) Plenty of characters have no eyebrows. So yeah, this might disqualify some of the above. These characters are: Djura, Djura’s Ally, Yahar’gul Hunters that use Claw and Tonitrus (idential), Micolash, Hunter of Despair (Black Church one), Edgar, Olek, Josef, Queen Killer, Afflicted Beggar, Unused Vileblood, Valtr, Brador, Damian, Yahar’gul hunter in Nightmare, Doctor in Research Hall, Antal, Vitus and Wallar. I have no idea what they all had to smoke to get their eyebrows fall out, lmao

2) Arianna’s hair lose color after she births a child, and her eyes are dark pink. Arianna has three face data - normal, after Bloodmoon, and after birth. In the Bloodmoon she just gets slightly paler, more sickly colored skin and lips and loses her blush, but after birth her skin gets MUCH paler, hair loses color and eyes get ‘clouded’ effect.

This eye color is not the same as reddish grey one from previous example, it is more saturated.

3) The most buff character is a Yahar’gul hunter with Cannon+Rifle. He is the only NPC of all who has all body scale stats (except for ‘head’) set to maximum 255. Queen Killer has only ‘chest’ and ‘abdomen’ set to 255, and Alfred has ‘abdomen’ on 255 but ‘chest’ only on 212. Yes, random hunters have way more of a male tiddy than Alfred.

4) Arianna is more flat than Adella. Yeah, it is a bit goofy remark, since ‘chest’ slider for Bloodborne NPCs is just chest width and not breasts size, but it could be interpreted as such. There are generally two types of ‘chest’ slider for female characters: the smallest 0 (Iosefka+Imposter, Arianna, Yurie) and the middle meaning 128 (Adella, Black Church Hunter, White Church Hunter, Henriett). Lonely Old Dear is a special case and has slider set to 192 (the largest).

5) Simon might actually lack eyes. MIGHT. Simon’s face data has two vertical stripes both going through where his eyes are. Djura is strongly implied to miss an eye where his face data has a scar going through where his eye is covered with bandages. It seems like developers can distort characters’ faces but not remove eyes, as you can see that despite implications, Djura’s data has both eyes. In either case, Simon has those strange scars for some reason.

6) Henryk and Afflicted Beggar share absolutely identical mole on the right side of their nose.

7) Edgar’s glasses are supposed to be round. But because his forehead/brows lean so strongly down, it causes glasses model to bend to avoid clipping, so it is a bit flattened at the top. Sure, it provides for a more unique glasses shapes, but... from technical standpoint bro frowned SO hard that his glasses frown too. xD

8) The ridge of Yamamura’s glasses is dark red.

9) Besides the eye colors shown in NPC data, there is some more. Willem’s eyes are grey, Maria’s eyes are greyish green and very pale, Gehrman has emerald eyes, and older daughter of Gascoigne and Viola seems to have greyish green eyes too. Ludwig appears to have his right eye blind and his left eye having its pupil so enlarged that it obscures the iris.

9.1) Micolash has brown eyes in NPC data, but blue in cutscene model.

10) Some characters have interesting unused items equipped. Simon has Fist of Gratia and throwing knives equipped both of which he never uses, Yamamura has throwing knives that he never uses, Crow of Cainhurst has Hunter’s Bone (heavily implied to be Maria’s) and Executioner’s Glove that he never uses.

10.1) Simon only has throwing knives in Fishing Hamlet. Within lore, they are associated with Henryk. I personally do not see any other reasons for the developers to add them in this specific condition to the character that won’t even fight you, besides for the dataminers to conclude Henryk was likely participating in Fishing Hamlet massacre too. But heeey it is just a the-

11) Some interesting stats as NPCs. I am going to list every stat from the highest to lowest in order. Some characters have different stats depending on their questline and/or summoning location though; for such cases I only used the highest stat possible.

11.1) Micolash has all stats at the decent 50, except for the stamina that he only has at 19. Ironic for someone whose entire battle is running...

11.2) Bestial hunter ABSOLUTELY kicks ass as you can tell.

12) Some summons were canned. Such as: Djura (unknown boss), Yamamura (against Ludwig), Antal (unknown) and Bone Ash Hunter Carla (unknown).

11.3) You were supposed to find Henriett dead. Guess that was a way to explain her appearing in the Nightmare. Also, there is a secret catherdal ward NPC that you were supposed to find dying.

12) Some characters drastically change stats when you don’t see them. Such characters are: Alfred (from 33 to 65 blood level), Eileen (30 to 65) and Simon (97 to 116). Basically they were killing while being left to do their own ways, I just step in here to appreciate the attention to the details.

That’s all yet, I think! I might have made some mistakes (especially at the point 11) so if you spot any you guys tell me! But uhhh I think I actually gave my strongest attention span to all these numbers, so it must work :pensive:

Alright so here's my story idea/headcanon about Mr Brador ! How he become the assasin of the church... or at least work for the Healing Church.

First about the cleric beast skin he wears. I know lot of person think it's Laurence's cleric beast. It's a cool idea and I like it a lot, (+many clues about it and all) but I also really like the idea that it could be one of his closet friends he came to Yharnam with. A cleric who ultimately turned into a smaller cleric beast after Laurence and that's how Brador discovered that ALL cleric beasts were in fact clerics.

(Laurence transformed into a huge beast ok sure but perhaps for a time, when other huge cleric beasts first manifest, people might not knew they were specifically from the healing church. That would make a really bad image of the church they probably hid it for a while)

But anyway one or the other headcanons don't really change the idea I will present next about how I imagined him meeting the squad !

Ok so at the beginning of the healing church Laurence, (who was a young Vicar or not yet but when the healing church begin to gain more and more influence. Some people were really not happy with that and begin to try to put pressure on him, menacing him or smt so he don't get to much power. spoiler it doesn't work

So one day he got in a small package of a jar of eyes ?? (sorry that's the first idea I got and you know it's bloodborne). He's like "oh so nice of people ! I don't really like eyes but it will fit well next the one Willem gives me a while ago ! and then he realized that the jar of eyes... is his own 💀 not a 2nd one. Maybe there's a note with it too. So that mean someone managed to come to his office/house/appartement and took his jar without noticing and his clearly menacing him.

Anyway some times later his friends and himself think someone will clearly try to attack him and bring him down for good. They bring him in secret to Gehrman's apartment/house (the workshop maybe?? or an other place idk), the hunter is here along with Maria to protect Laurence (Caryll & Ludwig may be here too but I didn't really thought about it).

So only one guy show up and Maria engage combat. She disarmed him so she kinda win but he takes out a gun after trying to talk to him. So they continued to talk then Gehrman appeared behind him and put is scythe on his neck, telling him to drop the weapon. They bring him inside tied him up and interrogate him to know more.

So yes this is Brador. (oh isn't it's Brador ! Newest in Yharnam/ church/hunter rank!) The poor guy didn't really got a choice and just try to do that job to live, don't even really know who really engage him. He tells them if they don’t kill him he promised to help them.

Maria’s like : « We’re not going to kill you, you’re going to jail. Right ? Right … »

And the 2 others : « Hm yeah right…» 😐😐 (actually they didn’t consider bringing him to jail at all lmao)

So after she goes look around if other people have been sent or not, while the guys talk to Brador and each other. They're discussing what they should do with him next. They are very clear if he's tempting smt else he's gonna end up disappear and either he get out never to be seen again or work for them.

So Gehrman take him out in a lil walk. He explaining to him calmly that he will personally deal with him if he try to hurt any of his friends again. Brador understand, if he have close friends/family and smn hurts them he will probably do the same thing. The hunter he's glad he understand and cut the rope restraining him. He also tells Brador if he changed his mind he know where he could go to become hunter, but really don't want to have him around) then he just go, leaving Brador completely alone in the dark.

So few days/weeks later guess who Laurence show up to his friends as a newest in their rank ???

Yeah Brador.

And Maria & Gehrman are so much not happy and done with it. They end up getting along at some point too I promised XD
