I think I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t like in CR when early on someone goes “do you and ___ have something going on?”

That is to say, romances that are planned beforehand and I don’t get to WATCH develop naturally just really aren’t as engaging for me.

Thats not to say they’re BAD, I just don’t care as much for them. Like, Fj*rd and J*ster (doing that so shippers don’t have to see) was fun for me until Travis said Laura’s goal was to romance his character to make a point. That kinda killed the ship for me because their moments after that felt forced. To me, at least.

So I’m torn on how I feel about Dusk asking Imogen if she and Laudna are a thing. Because on one hand, we FINALLY get an answer on that: “no, they’re just friends.”

But on the other hand- idk, it feels too soon for anyone to be confessing feelings or anything. And yeah, I know Imogen and Laudna have known each other for 2 years, but I wanted there to be time for us to SEE that relationship romance build rather than everyone be doing a “nudge nudge wink wink” at them the whole time- y’know, “show don’t tell.”

I’m not saying I’m against Laudna and Imogen, no no! I just want it to feel more natural and have time to develop more, yknow? Cuz right now it feels like a lot of the fandom just want it RIGHT NOW.

I guess I just prefer the slow burn.

Ok not to keep harping on about widojest but I think what really sold the ship for me was when Beau, Caleb and Fjord were all talking about the whole iron shepards ordeal and Caleb was the only person to come out and say that Jester uses cheeriness as an act to cover up her pain. Like Caleb was the first one to notice that Jester has more depth than people give her credit for while Beau and Fjord just see her as a manic pixie dream girl.

okay, to be real with you guys at least once: really, truly, i unironically hope for f/j shippers’ sake that their ship actually gets some emotional bonding at some point. f/j just hasn’t had any scenes at all where the two of them share a profound moment related to their shared character themes, arguably through the entire damn campaign. and it bums me out to see it. it’s been over a dozen episodes of them actively dating now and about another two dozen of the man having feelings for her in the background.

meanwhile the amount of profound emotions shared between w/j, both in the campaign as a whole and within the last couple dozen episodes, is off the goddamn charts. so many scenes of mutual concern, mutual love, and mutual understanding where both of them came away with some of their character depths plumbed. the number of important emotional threads they share that they’ve bonded over!

i’m trying to go into their dynamic with optimism because i can see where the potential is, break-up or not, but so far it’s been hard. i want to be happy for jes—not frustrated with the lack of emotional resonance between f/j.

I really gotta say, nobody in this fandom disrespects Jester’s happiness, agency, and life choices quite like the anti-fjorester crowd. She ends the story truly happy with her parents reunited and travelling the world with somebody who she genuinely loves that loves her back and ya’ll really gotta go and reduce all of that with snide comments about her being an accessory to Fjord’s story. Just be honest with yourselves and say you’re upset she didn’t end up with somebody else.
