Setsuna: Wasted Potential

In the beginning, Setsuna was mostly this black haired hanyo girl version of Sesshomaru but she barely has a character outside of wanting to slay demons and playing the violin.

Parentage

Setsuna never really cared to know about her parents as she told the tree of ages that she doesn't care anything about sesshomaru but suddenly decides to battle kirinmaru for him and she never asked about rin but as soon as she sees her as the tree of ages explains her story she suddenly wants to rescue and have a relationship with her.

2. Rushed Childhood and Recycled Material

In episode 20, setsuna's past after the fire was quickly rushed as people such as raita and futa don't have much of a personality and shiori didn't like she was in the original.

Nothing was original about setsuna's transformation as its just a copy Inuyasha's as both of them were trapped in web by a moth demon who were eventually them in a mindless state and have a weapon that seals it away.

3. No explanations

setsuna's not even interested in finding the Dream Butterfly and majority of the time wants to slay demons with kohaku and the other demon slayers, so why was she following/staying with towa and moroha during the search when she could do anything else.

I really don't understand why setsuna became a demon slayer as she could've done anything else but I think they did that to have a female demon slayer without thinking about kin'u and gyokuto.

4. Rushed Abilities

Shortly after setsuna's revived, she suddenly gets the Yukari no Tachikiri and her quickly mastering it after only using it on the sea snake woman, rion, mayonaka, zero, meidomaru, and kirinmaru for less than the second season.

She also used the Suzaku no Machibuse once for plot device against kirinmaru.

5. Copying

Despite towa inheriting majority of sesshomaru's abilities, setsuna gets copied and pasted memories of his past and progress.

Ex. sesshomaru reviving rin and thinking of the smile she gave him. setsuna saved mei and thinking of how she smiled while thanking her.

sesshomaru mastering the tenseiga in less than one season, setsuna mastering the Yukari no Tachikiri in less than a one season.

like inuyasha, setsuna needing a weapon to seal her demonic side away but not towa.

6. Contrived Powerups

Majority of the time, she wins by using the same two abilities, scourge of swallows and cyclone burst, and screaming and even after battling kyuki and kirinmaru, battles she wasn't able to win, she still does that.

How was it that setsuna inherited the Yukari no Tachikiri instantly and it was all up to her and not sesshomaru to do it.

7. Hanyo

Despite knowing she is a hanyo, setsuna in episode 20 wasn't ashamed of being one but in episodes 2 and 3 she doesn't want others to know and is resentful in being one.

i know this episode is dumb filler but:

and what pisses me off is that we could've had THIS with him and moroha. we could've had him helping her train, taking care of her when she's ill, and just...being the father figure he wished he could've had in his life. there's this repeating theme of him seeing himself in other youkai children and taking care of them, or at least emphasizing with them. he relates. he gets it. he doesn't want them suffering the way he did. and yashahime was like "hm...what if...amazing idea incoming...he didn't get to raise his daughter? lol."

This was sitting in my folder for a while but I decided to finally finish these up and upload them.

Lore dump below

These are basically an alternative design I was playing around with Moroha. The idea behind her having a mokomoko is that she saw Sesshomaru's and eventually he gave her one of her own in order to fend off her trying to steal his.

What can she say, its comfortable to sleep on.

She has gold eyes in this au because honestly I prefer them over the brown eyes. Also I edited the markings because I hated how it basically just looked like eyeliner and lipstick, so I had her resemble her grandfather more because in my au she's the reincarnation of Toga. Also instead of her grandmothers rouge, which should have been destroyed, she instead uses her own blood as lipstick to trigger her power because having a strong source of scent helps unlock her strength. She could just smear it underneath her nose, but having a blood mustache doesn't look as respectable.

I have some thoughts on her weapons, but I'll share them next time. Though if you guys flood my inbox with questions, I may not be able to help myself from sharing.

no one can convince me that the only good inuyasha sequel wouldn’t have been Kagome and Inuyasha fighting the bad guys while desperately trying to keep little baby Moroha from running off into danger.

Moroha has never had to develop survival instincts because her parents + Sango, Miroku, Kohaku, Kaede and Shippo protect her with their life. But she has inherited Inuyasha’s recklessness and Kagome’s bravery, so trying to convince this very small child not to try and fight the bad guys is very difficult.

and Inuyasha gives totosai a fang of his to carve a sword for Moroha.

Inuyasha: just make a child-safe sword.

Sesshomaru/Irene: Sora, Hikaru and Akane, Airi, and Towa and Shion

Inuyasha/Kagome: Itsuki and Moroha

Miroku/Sango have way more kids than what I drew here, but the ones I did draw are: Hisui and Gyokuto.

Sesshomaru is very blue in the manga so I made him blue here. :3

Shion is very much the most no-nonsense of the group, and is the cousin that drives Itsuki the least crazy. Hikaru, on the other hand, is the wildest cousin, and often gets into a bunch of chaos alongside Moroha, so Itsuki frequently gets headaches and has to ask Sora to go save the duo before they get themselves killed. Akane spends most of her time in Kururugi Village, living there as a priestess, but that doesn't stop Moroha from trying to take her out to explore and being protective of her.

Irene being close friends with Sango, their kids naturally grew up alongside one another, so everyone is pretty friendly with Hisui, Gyokuto, Kin'u, and their various unnamed siblings. Hisui has a crush on Sora while Gyokuto is constantly flirting with Hikaru, to the half-demon's embarrassment because he doesn't know how to deal with it.

Towa and Airi basically grow up in modern day Japan. Towa flirts with Hojo/Ayumi's daughter.

I think Towa and Airi are already 14 and 16 in 2018??? Or maybe a year or two younger??? So Irene and Maria would meet them when they go to Japan to try the Bone Eater's Well to get back to the Feudal Era??? But my brain doesn't understand numbers and I've been jumping between numbers so freaking confused.

I dunno who needs to hear this like again, but if you're going to go to a mega thread calling out the worst manga-panels including ones with pedoshit to defend it and not be something like, "it's fiction but it is what it is", (you know? At least owning it) because one thing is drooling over what's considered a pedoship, but another is doing that while also seeing like the child clearly being taking care of by the adult then being something like example, "they were just friends!" in a forceful effort like a crusade to defend it everywhere along it's validity, when he gets married to said child, canon or not, at like 13-14 in what's very much plainly showcasing a grooming situation that for whatever reason you can't grasp after years, then maybe you have a weird little problem and need a bit more than something like Jesus, and it's probably why some people in the community including some in others don't really want to share the same space as you.

Kikyo was very much more loving towards kids and took care of them always.

So it’s come to my attention that a lot of the fandom are annoyed by this picture because Rin doesn’t need to be in it. They’ve shoved her in here firstly because her and her deadbeat husband are still social distancing like crazy, and secondly because they’re trying to reinforce how the sequel is on the same level and belongs with the original. It’s lazy and it’s just so trashy.

Moroha: Terrible Comic Relief

One of the reasons that I dislike Moroha is because she's an offspring of Inukag, a pairing that I strongly dislike. In the trailer and first 3 episodes, they tried to make Moroha this expert in knowledge of people and another badass female character but failed and she got worse as episodes went on.

Bad Fighter

For the majority of the series, moroha has been known to be not taken seriously as she's barely fighting like towa and setsuna. She is able to take out average yōkai, including yawaragi, and tokotsu when she was using the beni but is awful at fighting at higher ranks especially Kirinmaru.

Ex. moroha tries to defeat kyuki with demon power and lost but didn't think to use spiritual power.

Instantly defeated by a venom serpent and drifting pond, yotsume, nikosen, homura, setsuna, kirinmaru, and etc.

2. Worst Traits

She's the embodiment of inuyasha's and kagome's worst traits, which includes their overconfidence.

She defeated so many average yōkai that she became so overconfident in her abilities and is easily defeated by most upper yōkai including kirinmaru.

Like her father and mother, she can be impulsive with her actions, such as attacking without thinking, which can leave her open after attacking an enemy.

In episode 24, she claims to kirinmaru that the power of her beni is new and improved and she doesn't have to fall asleep but that didn't change.

like inuyasha's annoying habit, she seems to lack a sense of modesty as she does not mind being seen naked.

like kagome, she has this annoying habit of butting into people's problems and wanting to be the mediator to towa and setsuna.

3. Annoying Speech

Everytime she takes out the beni, it's these same worthless words.

"With this rouge, I become Beniyasha, Destroyer of Lands. Tremble before the bloodthirsty dawn. Bear witness to your end if you so dare."

then annoyingly passes out.

4. Bad Luck

She's the comic relief of the sequel as she has the misfortune of having bad luck interfering with her paying her debts or when the twins are off to battle, she is either left behind, at the receiving end of a Curb-Stomp Battle, or her targets have No Body Left Behind. And she gets taunted for it when this happens.

Ex: homura, kinka and ginka, venom serpent, mizuchi, nikosen, kyuki, and especially kirinmaru.

She also gets constantly hit by objects and beings.

Ex. getting hit by her and setsuna's items, getting hit by totosai and jaken.

5. Lack of Abilities

She always uses the Iron Reaver Soul Stealer, blades of blood, crimson dragon wave, crimson backlash wave, sacred arrows, and the beni.

She doesn't have a weapon made from herself as totosai ignored her.

6. Rushed Backstory

In episode 16, they revealed her quickly rushed and contrived backstory.

In the beginning, towa, setsuna, and moroha prepare to fight yawaragi, who was only mentioned once in episode 14 and 15.

In the first flashback, yawaragi is ordering moroha to fight kodoku without her beni with the promise of a sword and as soon as she's done she realized she was abandoned. jyubei and yawaragi talk. When moroha tracks yawaragi to jyubei and demands the sword, only to be resold to him to pay off a debt with the sword.

In another scene, moroha battles yawaragi alone with konton, who made a deal with yawaragi.

In another flashback, yawaragi defeats bird yokai with armor after being tricked by a weasel demon and moroha using her beni and scratches her.

moroha using a new ability. yawaragi double crosses konton only to be killed the new ability at last minute. setsuna scares off konton. yawaragi has this forced and contrived emotional moment and yawaragi dies. then moroha has another forced and contrived emotional moment with towa and setsuna about being a shihanyo.

But why couldn't moroha run away as it's not like jyubei can carry her back to the caves and force her to hunt yokai.

7. Contrived Powerups

Win or lose, which she mostly loses, she constantly uses the Iron Reaver Soul Stealer, blades of blood, crimson dragon wave, crimson backlash wave, sacred arrows, and the beni and annoyingly yells.

She also receives longbow from her parents and is all of a sudden is an expert quickly.

8. Squeezed In

In episode 28, moroha was placed into a scene with sota and towa which came from episode 4 as they're probably fixing something.

moroha had no interest in learning about her parents now she does like setsuna and didn't even ask questions visiting her maternal side.

(I kinda stuck which eye colour is better for Moroha since I like both golden and brown eyes on her... In the end I decided with brown even If I kinda like her golden eyes a bit more)
