The lack of source checking in conservative circles is fucking horrific. They take everything at headline value and don’t actually think about implications. Like jfc guys it’s not that hard to actually click on the article and read the SECOND PARAGRAPH about how the protestors specifically rioted in regards to the attacker’s SPECULATED ethnicity and terrorism being ruled out as a motive. They don’t care about his actual motive or the people they hurt - they just want more political ammunition for their anti-immigration views and they’re mad it’s not being handed to them on a silver platter. They set a cop car and double decker bus on fire in their tantrum about border control. That’s why it’s far-right - they’re a bunch of anti-immigration racists, not reasonable people deeply concerned about kids getting stabbed. after 100+ hours of CR watched I can now say that Vax’ildan has officially made an oopsie that genuinely annoyed me. and it PAINS me to say that because I ADORE this stabby half-elf boy with all my heart. but the shit he pulled with Raishan after killing Thordak... baby. baby boy. however, I made the mistake of looking at the Youtube comments on that episode and saw so many people ripping into my boy in Scanlan’s defense. which!! don’t get me wrong, is completely fair, but it seems like every time a character makes a mistake or a bad decision, the CR fandom suddenly switches on them and acts like the character/player is the worst person alive and it’s like?? I sat there watching that whole thing play out shaking my head, a little in shock, because I just? couldn’t fathom the stupidity of a decision like that, personally, but then I saw others saying, “tbh this is perfectly in line with Vax’s character,” and I was like yes! it is! and I’m still annoyed about it lol. but I’m not going to HATE him for the rest of the campaign because of ONE mistake? 

kind of like how people disparaged the fuck out of Percy and Vex in The Sunken Tomb... truly coming up with some braindead takes about why Percy is a malicious idiot and Vex is a greedy asshole like... pls do some critical (lol) thinking for once in your goddamn lives?? like for example Keyleth is one of my faves but she doesn’t always do the right thing because she’s unsure of herself. Vax is one of my faves but he doesn’t always do the right thing because he’s driven by emotion a lot of the time. Vex is one of my faves but she doesn’t always do the right thing because she’s extremely insecure about her position in life. Percy is one of my faves but he doesn’t always do the right thing because he thinks he’s a terrible person so he acts on instincts that validate that belief. do I need to go on? these characters are all wonderfully, deliciously flawed and that’s what makes me enjoy them that much more. anyway idk why I felt the need to make this post but I did. I love these silly silly characters.

I think what bothers me about continued discourse on characterizations is honestly how much there is to consume. BSD isn’t just ONE linear story which is easily and readily accessible it’s got multiple branches! There’s novels! There’s the manga! There’s spin off manga! There’s a movie! There’s a 3 season anime with a fourth on the way! There are PLAYS! There is an entire canon AU! Which also has a manga! AND a live action movie! AND a play!! There’s a lot to dissect and read and go off of for characterization!

Not even to mention that a lot of what gets complained about is the remnants of older characterizations which were a product of how much content we had at the time! I see people complaining about shit I haven’t seen be actively pushed for a year or two and it’s like yALL pls remember this story is not actually new. It’s been around for a WHILE and just because YOU are new to it doesn’t mean it’s a new story. Ive only been here for HALF as long as BSD has existed so there’s plenty that I don’t even know cuz I just wasn’t THERE anyway I’m done now lmao
