I generally mean more along the lines of MCs who are still customizable despite the set race/ethnicity and less along the lines of MCs who are set in every aspect, such as Kenna or Dave and Sam, but if you feel like they contribute to your opinion, feel free to consider them when voting

(Murder Drones Episode 7 spoilers!)
THEY CHANGED THE INTRO V IS OFFICIALLY DEAD FUNERAL'S ON THURSDAY
Cult. It's a cult. This is definitely a cult. They probably don't even realize it but it is undeniably some kind of cult.
Nori what are you doing. Nori why are you like this.
The cross is a USB??
They're keeping the Drones themselves in the lockers??
Of course the unpaid intern whose opinion doesn't matter is the only one with any sympathy for them.
Pink Solver core?? SOLVER LIZZY?!?
Ah great, the Envy shippers are gonna be using this as "proof" that he's still in love with V.
HE IMMEDIATELY APOLOGIZED HE LOVES HER SO MUCH
Tessa. Stop. I was willing to give you the benefit of a doubt but you're not doing yourself any favours.
And now she's being racist. Way to go.
"The power of a black hole in the palm of my hand."
SEE TESSA ALL YOU DID WAS MAKE EVERYTHING WORSE
THEY'RE BACK THAD AND LIZZY ARE FINALLY RELEVANT AGAIN
Did they change Thad's VA? He sounds different.
Was that V? Is she already back?
N BABY NO DON'T SAY THAT YOU DON'T DESERVE THIS
Eldritch V??
I can't wait for people to meme about his perfectly cut scream there.
Not going near the corpse. Smart move.
Cyn stop. Cyn stop. CYN STOP PLEASE I'M BEGGING I WANT YOU TO BE SYMPATHETIC
She hugged him. That's probably a good thing, right? That's probably proof that the real Cyn is still in there somewhere, right? THAT PROBABLY MEANS SHE MISSES HIM AND IS GENUINELY SORRY RIGHT
Nothin' like a good old-fashioned Robot Uprising Apocalypse, eh? In other news, Skynet is suing the Solver for copyright infringement.
Those admin privileges comin' in handy. Unfortunately they don't do much in the physical world.
Uzi has absolutely no reason to be crawling and scuttling around like a creature right now except for the simple fact that she wants to. Never change, little gremlin.
Oh I don't think you should watch that. N was right, y'know, there's probably stuff down here you don't wanna see.
Why does this remind me of the garbage maze in FNaF Security Breach?
Okay so it's not some kind of disembodied Solver Lizzy core. Don't blame me, the lights looked pink before and the cat ears headphones reminded me of Lizzy's bow.
Familiar?? Nori??? DID N ACTUALLY KILL YOU AND WHY AREN'T YOU BRITISH/MOMMY LONG LEGS
Khan? A hunk? In the words of Professor Membrane, NOT SCIENTIFICALLY POSSIBLE!!!
"How do you know my daughter?" "Well y'see, it all started when we tried to kill each other..."
Oh it was J. Is it bad to say I'm kind of relieved?
Are we getting the cool edgy Khan from the concept art??? Bro why are you so nonchalant about it being the end of the world.
INB4 people go frame-by-frame through the list looking for the most Russian-sounding name and say "THERE, THAT'S DOLL'S DAD"
Tessa was that really necessary? You're giving really bad vibes right now.
Patch? So the Solver can be removed? And she knows? Again, major bad vibes.
*FNaF 2 Foxy jumpscare*
I'm starting to suspect Yeva either can't or chooses not to talk.
Is she saying the Solver wiped her memory of the labs? I guess that would explain a few things.
N being so polite and cute as always.
What do you mean, "found its way back?" Where did it go? Is the timeline completely wrong? Did it start on Copper-9 then go to Earth then return to Copper-9? I'm so confused.
Nori why are you so casual about the prospect of your own daughter being a planet-eating eldritch abomination. This is exactly why I'm worried about the fandom giving you the Rose Quartz treatment.
I told you not to watch it, Uzi.
Welp, so much for Doll. Consider this karma for killing V. But "fight back?" Does that mean it can be resisted?
So now we know where Uzi gets it from.
Tessa no. Tessa stop. Tessa STOP. TESSA STOP YOU'RE NOT EVEN TRYING TO PRETEND TO HELP ANYMORE
YEAH N SAVE YOUR GIRLFRIEND
Whoa, didn't see that coming. No face reveal?? Does that mean she really is a Drone???
WHY CAN'T YOU JUST LET THEM BE HAPPY
Imagine meeting your daughter for the first time and she's currently being possessed by an eldritch abomination masquerading as her boyfriend's dead sister.
Every time I think this episode's about to end on a cliffhanger it doesn't.
EVEN WHEN SHE'S BEING POSSESSED BY AN ELDRITCH ABOMINATION MASQUERADING AS HIS DEAD SISTER HE WOULD RATHER DIE THAN LET HER BE HURT AND IT WAS ENOUGH TO SNAP HER OUT OF IT FOR LIKE HALF A SECOND HOW COULD ANYBODY SAY THEY'RE NOT IN LOVE
Oh no, now people are gonna write fics about Nori being vored by her own daughter.
"Hang out" is code for "date." "Hang out" is code for "boyfriend and girlfriend." "Hang out" is code for "madly in love with each other." "HANG OUT" IS CODE FOR "WE MAKE SWEET AND PASSIONATE LOVE TOGETHER EVERY SINGLE NIGHT WE'RE ALREADY PLANNING THE WEDDING AND I'M GONNA WEAR THE DRESS AND WE'RE GONNA NAME OUR KIDS GLOCK AND BAYONET"
Literally smacked the sense back into her.
Imagine meeting your mom for the first time and you don't know who she is and she's a gross little fleshy crab-spider-thing similar to what your boyfriend's jerk boss turned into so you punt her into a bottomless pit and she makes a dodgeball noise.
LOOK AT HER REACTION SHE KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT "HANG OUT" IS CODE FOR SHE JUST DIDN'T REALIZE HE THOUGHT OF IT THAT WAY TOO
My last two brain cells while watching this episode. Now would be a really good time for you two to kiss.
Oh good gosh she's not dead. Okay it wasn't at all necessary to put your head on backwards.
CYN IS HUMAN NOW??? OR IS SHE WEARING TESSA'S BODY LIKE ENNARD DID WITH MICHAEL
NO JUST LEAVE THEM ALONE ALREADY
Sorry J but you're still not plot relevant yet, you're not allowed to participate.
J: *sees the railgun* *has war flashbacks*
UZI YOU CAN'T SACRIFICE YOURSELF RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM AND TELL HIM TO "DIE MAD" AS YOUR LAST WORDS THAT IS LITERALLY NOT OKAY
*Uzi falls* *screen fades to white* *UNDERTALE*
The Void???
Glitch I beg of you please don't make us wait another half a year for the next episode. And Liam please don't let it end after one season.

03/03/2024 Twitter Space Recap (1/2)
Martin & Kyle did a twitter space (with a late appearance of Eva) in the earliest hours of the day on the 3rd, here's a recap of what they talked about then:
-Kyle brings up that he wants to do a charity stream for the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund! He says Him, Martin, Coral, and Eva would be there playing Lethal Company. He says he plans to do this "sometime this month".
-Martin describes the 'Walten Dog Saga', saying that first the family got Carlitos, who was Sophie's dog, and everybody loved him, but then one day in 1968, they're playing and then Carlitos gets run over. And it's so tragic that they're like, 'no more dogs!', until one day in 1973 Jack runs into this homeless street dog and brings him home, and names him Jaimito, and they have him for a few months before he bites Edd's arm and "almost gives him rabies", so Jack just gives the dog to Susan, and the one week that she has this dog is like the worst week of her life. He pees everywhere, he tears up her furniture, and after a week of that he just peacefully dies while Susan is out of the house.
-Martin says that aspects of episode 5 are inspired by some of the leaked stuff he's seen from Joker 2. "It's a very fairy-tale, unreliable narrator kind of episode."
-Martin spitballs his "perfect idea for a Walten Files game", a PS1-style game where you work as a Bon's Burger's employee, "in the kitchen at 3am making burgers", fixing up orders to be delivered (by another employee, I'm assuming? He mentions 'a guy with a motorcycle', so I think this is what he means. Like pizza delivery.) He talks about how the supply closet would be on the other side of the restaurant, so whenever you run out of ingredients you'd have to walk all the way over there and back in the dark. He says it'd be really funny if there wasn't even anything supernatural in it.
-Martin talks about how it really bothers him when people say or imply that, because The Walten Files takes place in the time period it does, it would be more accurate or make more sense for his characters to be bigoted. He brings up a specific instance where someone asked him how the other BSI employees would treat Chris. "The point that this person was making is that it would make sense for the team to be racist, and I was like 'No, it doesn't make sense! That shouldn't happen, it shouldn't be a thing!'" He goes on to say... "And then it was shit like, [mockingly] 'Why are Sophie and Jenny a couple if it was the 1980s?' and it's like, gay people existed in the 1980s!"
"It's just like, just because something was the thing back then, doesn't mean the characters should do a very bad and harmful thing, y'know? It's a really stupid mindset, in my opinion."
-Kyle talks about this genuinely really funny Showstoppers Halloween special idea he had a long time ago, where the Showstoppers are really excited for the holiday, but for some reason Bon has never heard of Halloween before, and the other Showstoppers have to explain it to him, telling him about costumes and trick-or-treating and everything. And it culminates with them going up to somebody's doorstep to trick-or-treat, and all the Showstoppers are telling Bon that he should go first since he's the newbie, and when he knocks on the door some lady answers, going "Hello! How are-" and then she looks up in horror. And the shot reverses to show like a full, "hyper-realistic" Scary Animatronic Bon looming over to her, with a Text-To-Speech voice going "Trick.... Or.... Treat."
-Martin talks about his own funny showstoppers idea, where Bon, for some inexplicable reason, has the feeling that he is dying. and he spends the whole episode trying to make amends with people and be nice to his friends, like 'I don't hate you, Banny, I really care about you,' 'Boozoo, you can have Bon's Burgers when I'm gone, because you're my friend and I trust you,' etc. And at the end of the episode you find out he just had a tummy ache, and he was being really dramatic about it.
-After some related banter, Martin jokes that it'd be funny if Jack was at a table eating with the rest of the 'Bunny Smiles family', and out of the blue he goes, like, 'I've got a tummy ache! :(' in a really high-pitched voice. Eva, who had joined the space a while earlier, jokes that his normal voice is just him faking it, and the high-pitched voice is what he actually sounds like.
-They talk about various Godzilla movies for a while, and Martin brings up how he really enjoyed the way Minus One managed to connect the narrative between its human and its monster characters, and how that's something he thinks a lot of other monster movies and horror films fail to do.
"Y'know, it's funny, because when I wrote The Walten Files, I always had the idea that like, there are two parts of the story? Part one, which is like, the human drama, and Edd and Molly, and the crash. And then part two, which has more to do with the animatronics and the place itself. And you have this feeling where there's going to be a moment where those two parts connect and link to each other, and I think that's something you gotta have in, like, horror movies, where- it- you can't just like, make up characters, and just put them in the existing world and have them exist, and then just sit around waiting for the killer to appear, y'know?"
-Eva brings up an incident that's been happening in the Walten Files community on Twitter, where some people have been getting some flack over headcanoning members of The Showstoppers as Black. Martin gets really incensed talked about how much this bothers him, saying "I saw that, it's so fucking stupid. If you- It's just common sense! If you look at someone going 'Hey, I think this character would be Black, I headcanon this character as black,' and you go, like 'I'm not comfortable with that,' what the fuck do you mean? How? That's so weird! And that's what I'm saying, it's like, how does it effect the story in any way that would be negative to you? Like, the only way you would be against that, is if you were like, racist. And it's like, huh? And I think, a lot of people bring up the argument that, 'Ah, but this character is clearly intended to be White,' and it's like, who cares! Who gives a shit? Like, that's not, like a valid argument to go against someone for doing something like that. It would be very different if, for example, someone looked at Chris and went, like, 'What if he was White?', it's very different. The context of that is very different, than just headcanoning a character as Black, y'know? That's completely fine and normal. Why would you be against that, that's so weird."
"I find it even funnier, because, from what it looked like, it was because someone said they headcanon Sha as Black, and it's like, that makes so much sense! I mean, like, I think that if Sha had a human design, she'd definitely not- she wouldn't be white... again, if you're against headcanons like that, you- you're not welcome here."
-"We end this stream saying these few words: Headcanoning characters as people of color is great, supporting Palestine is great, uh, being a Zionist is Bad! Being a racist is bad! And if you like Godzilla: I will give you a kiss on the head. Muah!"
___ They ended up holding another Space much later the same day, which I've decided to cover in a separate post, because it's twice as long as this one, and a lot more of the conversation in it was Walten Files-Centric, so the recap will take way longer to write.

Actually lemme revert back to my Voltron days for a sec because i got rage.I got into the show the same time season 3 came out and the Lance x Allura development immediately stole my heart because why wouldn't it?It was the first time i saw people like me as a couple onscreen,by which i mean i'm a mixed latino like Lance-and we're even both carribean since he's cuban and i'm dominican!!!-and a black woman like Allura, and it was such a well-written ship to boot that gave me a good example of what i deserved to be treated like by my s/o and raised my standards for romance both fictional and for my own future(and current)dating life and it meant the world to me and i think it always will. And y'know what?Yes,Allura's death hurt a LOT and it still does sometimes but by now i've learned the sad truth that this is the norm for canon bw
The thing that REALLY sets me off?The fandom's response to them.Nonstop,i'd see 'Allura and Lance are such siblings!!!' 'Omg i'm so glad Lance is finally over Allura XD' 'I really hope Allurance isn't endgame afterall' and it was infuriating back then for the obvious people hating on my otp reason but i've realized that it was literally misogynoir.White and loads of nonblack Vee El Dee fans just couldn't stand that their precious Lancey boy genuinely loved the darkskin black girl mc with no ill-intentions and grew out of any bad habits towards her in season 3 of an 8 SEASON SHOW so that meant we were getting black4brown rep instead of sanitized twink tsunderes and they're STILL AT IT with the Le///akira desperation
But nah nah,y'all 'Space Mom and Dad' allegation makers ain't getting out of this!Allura was a GIRL,Shiro was a MAN-a GAY MAN FFS!!!Their season 1 dynamic was very clearly that of a tired dad and his rebellious teen daughter and all the 'baiting' you saw was you inserting your straight woman feminism fantasies onto them-Again,WOMAN,when Allura was an entire 17 year old and Shiro was in his mid-20s!You're literally the same as people who ship him with Pidge or even worse because there's an added layer of perpetuating the long history of adultification and by extension dehumanization of black children.Sit your tenheadasses down,it's not racist or misogynistic that people think you're gross and weird for infantalizing and straightwashing a canon gay japanese man
Keith and Lance weren't baited.Shiro and Allura were never even a fucking option.ALLURANCE was bait, for latinos and black people and those of us inbetween alike, they dangled it in front of us in promos and the vlogs and the official books and most importantly in THE ACTUAL FUCKING SERIES.Only to go 'Sike!!!The only deserving happy ending for traumatized black girls is to die for others and their soulmate to be forced to live on without them!!!' and the fact that y'all have the AUDACITY to make it about yourselves by twisting one of the best love stories in modern american animation into 'Nice Guy Gets The GirlTM' is bodyslam worthy.Be.Fucking Quiet.

— > by default, considering the nature of this blog, there will more than likely be dark content such as yandere behavior, kidnapping, toxic behavior and relationships, and things like that. if that makes you uncomfortable, then this blog probably isn’t for you.
— > you're free to send smut requests but i don't write it often bc it's not something i'm personally interested in. do not send non-con requests or anything in relation to incest. i’m okay with kinks but certain ones make me uncomfortable so if you request one of those, i most likely won’t write it.
— > as of feb of 2024, im only just starting to write for slashers and dbd so bear w me as i get used to writing all these new characters!!
— > please send yandere requests to @unearthly-doting, please and thank you.
— > do not rush me into writing requests! i am a human being and i write on three separate platforms so it may take a bit for me to get around to your request.
— > i reserve the right to ignore and delete any requests sent in if they make me uncomfortable.
— > this blog is a safe space! if you are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, ableist, etc then i highly implore that you leave my blog. you are not welcome here.
— > you can request platonic stuff if you don’t want to read anything romantic!
— > given the potential nsfw content of this blog, coupled with other factors, i would prefer if minors didn’t interact with any nsfw posts. they're free to interact with this blog and any of my other posts so long as it's not nsfw.
— > be as descriptive in your request as you want! if you request an x reader, then please make sure to send in the pronouns of the reader or i will default and make them gn.
— > i also write for the marble hornets character! i do not write for the creepypasta adaptation of masky or hoodie; i only write for tim and brian.
— > i write for just about any and all creepypastas, excluding pokepastas and offenderman. i will not write ben or sally in romantic scenarios. platonic is fully fine, but if you request something romantic for them then i will delete your request.
— > continuing on, i write both janes. and finally, if a character has a canon sexuality [jane richardson; lesbian. jessica locke; lesbian. jay merrick; gay] then i will only accept requests that are nblw/wlw or nblm/mlm for them. this also applies to amanda young and susie from legion.

— > i haven’t been in the [creepypasta] fandom in years so my knowledge may be a bit outdated and i more than likely don’t know any new creepypastas or anything like that so like… feel free to educate me or something if you want. i love learning new things.
— > my inbox is always open if you want to chat or share your thoughts about certain characters! but please refrain from venting in my inbox.
— > i do try my best to be realistic with my writing but sometimes a girl just has to be a little delulu y'know, and that’s okay. i’m embracing that.

(Now I would have used Tumblr's handy dandy reblog function on my last ask, but I felt too self conscious making a long post Even Longer over a single section, BUT!)
'If I put Falst in a notably hostile and unjust city and then just… left him alone, that risked turning the in-universe established fact of people being casually shitty to ferin into a tell-don't-show thing. The last thing I wanted was for it to seem like Falst was being oversensitive, that things weren't that bad or that he could've been hanging out in cities this whole time. ... It was very important that I not shy away from showing the gross, bad side of his experience, because doing so could risk producing the opposite effect.'
Y'know as (half of) a black person, this honestly never occurred to me, like I just Instantly grasped from the way others talked about Falst in his intro arc when he wasn't there "Oh. Oh I Know That." And so seeing him in active peril in the city as opposed to him playing cards with Alinua in the one spot he knew was primarily safest didn't register to me at all as a big difference in presentation because you're not allowed to just Forget that people can and will treat you worse than you are due on sight when you're in Falst's position. But the audience watching a story is allowed and very likely to forget or not register danger levels unless they are being actively shown those things at prudent intervals. Like the silent pressure constantly on Falst is something I Fully Get without having to be given examples, but also it's a silent omnipresent pressure on top of all his other issues that he refuses to bring out of himself, so in crafting a story around All Of That, you gotta shake the jar or else the glitter at the bottom will become such a non-thing that people might just kinda go 'I mean it's just a jar with something at the bottom, I don't see what the deal there is.'
Yeah, it's… a tough balance to strike. I'm not a fan of stories that aggressively fire off nonstop reminders of in-story prejudice (netflix's shadow and bone went so hard on the in-universe anti-"shu" racism I kept cringing away from the screen wondering how this world seemed to be composed 95% of people with nothing else going on in their lives except being racist), but on the flip side you get stories with, as I like to call it, Elf Racism, where some demographic of gorgeous superhumans like elves or angels or catgirls will be allegedly discriminated against or hated by some specific in-universe group and it will usually either be brought up (a) only once in a Very Special Episode where someone is taught quickly and cleanly that Racism Is Bad, (b) literally never, except maybe the token elf/angel/catgirl will be like "you think my ears/wings/kawaii kitty vibes are beautiful? but……… all my life I was told they were hideous", or (c) solely in the context of Radical Anarchist Rebels whose reasonable points about "racism is bad" are obscured by their startling habit of committing random atrocities for our heroes to morally oppose without addressing their actual moral thesis.
My biggest complaint with these executions is that they are wildly, wildly unrelatable. "My life is hard because I have adorable kitty ears, angel wings or superpowers" is the kind of thing that needs supporting evidence before an audience will buy it. "This world is prejudiced, by which I mean elves and dwarves hate each other - but not THIS elf and dwarf, they're besties, but all other elves and dwarves hate each other and in those cases it's just a fun quirk we will never attempt to address" produces a setting that can't decide if prejudice is a moral failing or a funny quirk. "There is prejudice in this world, by which I mean all the bad guys are racist and all the good guys are 100% enlightened and unproblematic" isn't much better, because it's being used as just another flavor of Good Vs Evil - plus the execution on the bad guys' part tends to be so cartoonishly over-the-top as to be completely implausible.
This is a problem, because if the "prejudice is bad" story is trying to communicate, for instance, the complex moral message "prejudice is bad," the prejudice enacted in the story probably shouldn't be so cartoonishly implausible that the audience has no chance of recognizing it within themselves or within anyone whose flavor of bias is anything less blatant than foaming-at-the-mouth-and-cranking-the-hate-crimes-dial-up-to-11. Most people will accept the idea that "people being ridiculously terribly prejudiced is bad," but when the image of prejudice the story paints is so divorced from any sort of lived experience, they will not see prejudice as a harmful flaw that real human people are capable of perpetuating, and they won't recognize it when they see it from the outside in real life - they'll see it as another hypothetical flavor of evil villainy that some bad people intrinsically do.
Prejudice is such a widely experienced issue, especially the "omnipresent invisible uncertainty of whether or not I am safe right now" thing, that it's baffling to me that so many of these stories don't seem to… get it? While the specific nature varies in every case, there is fundamental overlap in the experience! Like, I absolutely do not experience it the same way a lot of other people do - I am very white-looking, and too blonde for the garden-variety antisemites to figure me out, so race-based harassment has never targeted me - but I've been an underage woman in creepy-older-male-dominated spaces, I spent about half my middle school years as the target of nearly-nonstop bullying (a lot of it from people who I otherwise got along fine with and knew were ultimately well-meaning with a blind spot for casual cruelty), and in the past I've been cyberstalked and harassed by random entitled weirdos for long periods of time. I am very aware of the feeling of "there is a target on my back, and I just hope nobody hits it too hard today," and it seems to me that that specific feeling cannot possibly be this difficult to communicate.
It's like these writers read about how prejudice worked and were like "some people hate people for how they were born, got it" and just put that in their world without any nuance. Actually, I say it's like that, but considering the demographics dominating publishing, that's probably exactly why it happens so much.

Today, focus was a precious commodity and I ended up behind at work so did not get the chance to post the conversation as promised.
But now, here we are, the "conversation"--and I do use that term loosely--that I had with an Astarion girlie.
Allow me to set the scene.
This happened on a video where a streamer was, I assume, HORRIFIED to find that if she just self-insert played the game with answers she would give--SHOCK!--Gale was the companion who liked her the most. I can't imagine why.
Anyway, the comments section was the predictable Gale-bashing. Some in good fun. Most of it not. And I'm me, so I just couldn't help myself, because I see too much of my younger self [ who still tried to engage with people and connect but didn't know how ] in Gale, so I responded to a couple of comments. This was the one that prompted this little meeting of the... well, one mind and then whatever the other person was operating with. Must have been a different Operating System, because it sure didn't make sense to me.
It is below the cut, as are my thoughts because it turned into a long post as, apparently, I had many thoughts.
Astarion Girlie [ henceforth AG ]: THEN HE CAN GO SUCK OFF LETTO II ON ARRAKIS CUZ I AM NOT HERE FOR GALE'S SEXIST A$$ 😤
Me: First: how is Gale sexist? Second: and yet you're okay with Astarion [ NOTE: the username had something to do with what Astarion could do for them, so I made an educated guess ] who is canonically racist, knowingly lured people to their deaths, and was fine with condemning the world for himself???
AG: are you serious??? 🤣 Gale mansplains EVERYTHING to the women around him including magic to other magic-user, uses coercion as a flirting tactic, & slvt-shames Tav if you're romancing someone else.
Me: Wow. There is so much wrong with that. 1) Tell me you don't have an autistic friend without telling me. 2) He explains to EVERYONE not just women. 3) Genuinely? What coercion? 4) He just tells you -- He isn't for an open relationship [ says he wishes you had asked him first which is y'know healthy? ] and asks you to choose, then says he wishes you well if you don't choose him.
AG: have you considered touching grass?
Me: This is such an intelligent rebuttal. Brava! So insightful and useful to a debate. Have you considered maybe listening to others without belitting them because you can't have a friendly discussion?
AG: 1) all of my friends are auDHD and so am i. you're an ableist joke. 😘 2) now you're gale-splaining his sexism 😂 3) i'm not interested in continuing with someone as clearly unwell as you are, bye!
Me: I AM autistic, friend. 2) It's not sexism if he's literally explaining his special interest to EVERYONE regardless of sex. 3) Again, quite mature. Thank you. 👏👏👏
Tumblr media
I am just. How??? can anyone be so ??? I do not even have a word for it. It baffles me.
Astarion has canonically done terrible things, would canonically do many even more terrible if not swayed from it, and yet Gale??? is the one with whom they have a problem??? And they can't even logic their own argument???
As someone who is autistic and has been a victim of continued mental and emotional abuse from someone who always wanted to play the victim card and as someone who was always given the excuse "well they're not well and you know it, so you just have to deal with it and don't argue" when they're going out of their way to make your life hell and trying to frame you as their own personal villain, up to and including gaslighting you to the point of nearly two decades of depression, making you feel like you were broken and the worst human being in the world, and having you contemplating things you shouldn't, and them lying to others about things that happened or things that were said to get you in trouble, I get very, very tired of the mentality I see so much around the crazed Astarion Girlies of excusing everything he has ever done and being unable to even acknowledge a single flaw and attacking anyone who does say anything.
I have and continue to live that, have been and continue to be on the other side of it having to suffer because someone else wasn't held accountable, and I am Tired. [ At least now, thanks to my best friend in the entire world, I can see it for what it is and I'm in at least a better place now mentally, 98% of the time. ]
[ NOTE: This is NOT against the Astarion writers I have seen on here. Please do not misunderstand. The Astarion writers I follow on here are the only reason I can still even marginally like the character at this point. He is fascinating. He is multi-faceted. It's one of the things I love to see explored by those who I follow. It is always interesting to see people write complex and even morally difficult characters because that, too, is a form of understanding humanity. It's one of the things I love exploring with my anti-heroes and villains. In Baldur's Gate, that would include characters like Raphael, Gortash, Dirge, etc. So please know I am not hating on any Astarion writers! Everyone I follow is amazing! ]
But when you bring up those character flaws and morally difficult things that does make the character so complex and multi-faceted, these are the responses you get:
Astarion is a victim!
Yes, that is true. But Gortash who, let's be honest, at least doesn't fully know what he's doing is wrong [ you pass the insight checks and what not/narration tells you/the VA tells you that he thinks he's doing the right thing for himself and for the city, etc. and with the way he was raised, what example did he have to the contrary but I've already gone on that rant HERE ] is to the smallest degree even less culpable in my mind than Astarion, and he doesn't get a pass the way Astarion does? And he certainly shouldn't. He isn't absolved. He is doing terrible things whether he can fully rationalize it or not with his understanding of life.
Astarion though, acknowledges on multiple occasions, gives excuses, justifies his actions at every turn while still knowing that what he's doing and planning to do is wrong. And it's heavily implied that he really wasn't all that great of a person BEFORE Cazador either [ that is not to say that he deserved what happened either, just to clarify ]. But the point is Astarion did, at one point, having come from what seems an affluent family, have a knowledge of right and wrong and still made decisions that he made, even before Cazador and after once he was free.
Cazador made him do those things! Yes, he did, but that excuse stopped the moment Cazador's control was no longer an issue. He had free will and a knowledge of right and wrong, and he made the decisions he made.
But it was a habit by then! It was what he learned to survive!
And that coupled with the knowledge of right and wrong goes only so far as the moment you choose to knowingly make your trauma someone else's. Cazador wasn't going to force him to do the Ascension ritual and pay 7,000 souls for his own betterment. "Because after 200 years of SHIT, PURE SHIT, I think I deserve better." A paraphrase, but I think I caught the most important parts. He knew it was wrong, he acknowledges it and immediately tries to justify himself, and is still quite willing to do it. Literally, if he kills you by draining your blood, he acts like nothing ever happened and then tries to sweep it under the rug with Tav if they continue to be upset about it by telling them there's no reason to be.
And yet, we have a problem with Gale, who can be or come across as condescending at times, but I think you can hardly call a man sexist who made his girlfriend his entire personality--since she was the goddess of his SPECIAL INTEREST--and continues to put her word above even his own life, prioritize her forgiveness over his continued existence and who takes such great interest in literally everything Lae'zel has to say about the Astral Plane and her people. We have a problem with a man who is honest about his comfort zone? Who loves your PC even if you become a mindflayer? Who only takes issue with you when you do something morally bad? Who literally gives you approval points for anything even remotely resembling a good choice? Who feels like he doesn't even deserve a place in the world and would gladly give himself up for any one of his companions?
He's always harassing me for items!!!! AND HE GOT MAD WHEN I WOULDN'T GIVE THEM TO HIM!!!
The count is THREE and you can give the man the most trash items you have and he still thanks you and tells you that he will repay your kindness because he knows what such sacrifice means. He is thanking you--just as he gets mad at you if you don't--because he literally has a ticking bomb in his chest that would kill not only HIM if it de-stabilized and exploded, but also anyone within the vicinity.
Well he betrayed Mystra!!!
He tried to get on equal footing with someone he loved, to share in something he loved with the person who embodied it. Was he overly ambitious? Absolutely. [ And honestly, tell me it's not Gifted Kid Syndrome -coded to assume that he could do this impossible thing. ] Did it cost him? Yes. And then Mystra, who could have fixed it and didn't cast him off. And he still prayed to her. And took all of the blame on himself, despite the fact that Mystra shares more than a little responsibility for what transpired. [ I.E. all of the Origin PCs have been victims in this game, in some way or another, and some if not all of them to power imbalances in relationships. Why does anyone think Gale is the one exception? ]
HE'S MANSPLAINING TO ME!!!
He is literally telling you all about his special interest and probably assuming that you don't know much about it, or at least not as much as him, because he was literally a Chosen of Mystra and an Archmage. Again, can he be condescending and huffy at times? Yes. He absolutely can. Call it a character flaw. Everyone has them, but you know what? His doesn't condemn anyone to death, so why are we up at arms?
HE DOESN'T WANT ME TO SEE OTHER PEOPLE!!!
And that is his prerogative and he's straightforward and honest with you about it. He tells you--if you already started flirting with or seeing someone--that he wishes you had the courtesy to tell him first [ which, IS IN FACT the healthy way to go about a relationship of that nature, just as shown with Halsin insisting you ask your partner first ]--but if you choose the other person, he wishes you both well, usually gives some compliment to the other person, and then continues to treat you well as long as you weren't rude and demeaning to him during or after the fact.
So why???? Is so much of the fanbase SO AGGRESSIVELY against Gale? But Astarion is uwu Babygirl and can do no wrong? What about defending Gale makes me "so unwell", but how DARE anyone rightfully criticize even the smallest thing about Astarion because [ insert extensive list of reasons why none of that should matter ].
That he is a victim, that he's pretty, that his VA has a great voice and personality, et cetera, does not excuse that Astarion has knowingly done terrible things both against and within his will and will do so again without hesitation if he helps him, particularly if your Durge or Tav doesn't try or manage to sway him.
Make this make sense to me, because I certainly cannot seem to make it do so.
I've said it before with that Gortash post I linked above and I said it on a similar post for Zevlor and somewhere that I was talking about Minthara and Nere, but the double standards within a loud portion of this fanbase--even within the game itself and among the people who worked on it--is not one of its better qualities.

I am right there with u about the wanting to write dark stuff bestie I feel u
Yeeaahh, like thematically dark and serious fanfiction can be a lot of fun to write and read, if you're into that! I know a lot of people prefer fluff, and that's completely reasonable. There's something cathartic about dark stuff to me. Especially if the canon material is rather dark already, I find it like a sort of refreshing change from a lot of fluff, let's say.
I will always encourage people to write whatever they wish, so long as the dark story in question isn't, y'know, deliberately offensive, exploitative, or racist/phobic in any way. Beta and sensitivity readers also help with catching stuff like this, and therefore are always wonderful to have. I think there are people in every fandom who write dark stuff for the sake of being upsetting or shocking, so to be clear that's not what I mean (nor is it what I think you mean, nonnie) when I say I like to write dark stuff 😅 I just enjoy the violence, fear, grief, anger, etc. It shows up in a lot of my writing and it really helps me get through some stuff.
But yeah, I always say write what you want! Even if only five people read it. (This advice does not apply to me because I have self-esteem issues with my writing lol). I have read some of the most gorgeous fics in the tog fandom that are pretty dark. Not necessarily angsty all the way through, just dealing with serious themes in a way that's very true to canon. This is just me telling a general audience that it's possible to write dark stuff without being offensive and upsetting and exploitative. Give me more canon-typical violence and horror and anger! And of course it's always important to be kind and tag your works correctly!

Do you think Dinah's characterization on GA books demage or reduce her image a little bit? Like it stops her from being more a character with her on lore like she has potential to be and gets sidelined in supporting roles and team books?
Dinah's characterization in GA books prior to Rebirth actually kept in line with her characterization in JLA and JSA books. It was her popularity in GA books that led to fans pushing DC to give Dinah her own solos (you can see this in lettercols).
It is not the GA books fault that Dinah's solos are poorly written and racist. They also decidedly do not stop her from having her own lore. Dinah's character is not one that only appears in GA books, she has a backstory that factors into her actions and thoughts in GA books, and this backstory is not based on actions that happened in GA books.
I also frankly don't get this argument that Dinah is sidelined in GA books argument, because like yes, Dinah is not the main focus in a book that is not named after her character, that's how comic books work. I don't expect Ollie to be the main focus in the Black Canary title. It's also just really weird to single out GA books for this problem when this argument could apply to literally any book where Dinah is not the title character.
But also like.... yeah older comic books working with the established characterization at the time are going to work with the characterization and character history in use at that time rather than with the characterization based on a ton of changes that is found in more recent comics- this is again how comic books work.
I hate to break it to you but some of Dinah's worst writing is in Birds of Prey and comics that try to make her her "own character" by completely changing everything that makes her her. THAT is what changes the interesting and complex lore that had been built up over years into something that frankly cheapens her narrative and her character- it produces a Dinah that is meant to be marketable over one that is meant to be human and has her tolerating treatment from women that she would NEVER have tolerated from men. I've found more sexist writing for Dinah in BoP than I have in GA, at least GA books don't reduce her to a womb or write her as a serial sexual harassing racist who's totally cool with union busting as long as she can be #girlboss y'know? Idk maybe I just have standards.
I honestly think it's about time that some of you start reading the pre-BoP 1999 comics as if they written before BoP-1999. It is frankly RIDICULOUS the number of takes about Dinah that just show that you're confused about A. how comic books work and B. how the passage of time works.

Once again thinking about fandom as both a reflection and a potential driver of real social attitudes and thinking about how holy shit, increased trans visibility has made everyone - even allegedly trans-positive people - get a LOT stricter about gender presentation, except now in queer-friendly spaces that strictness manifests as "oh this 'male' character is wearing EYELINER??? omg egg lolol no REAL man would EVER obviously!!" or "this female character isn't wearing pink and flowers, BUTCH QUEEN" or "this male character is short and delicate by white western standards so clearly he isn't a real man uh was born a woman is trans!!" which as implied often has a HELL of a lot of racist baggage in how often it's applied to characters in anime and other east Asian media and
[deep breath.]
I know that some of it is just us queer people grasping at straws for anything we can claim as Relatable. I know that a lot of it is, in fact! But that...that doesn't make it a good thing to hold people - yes, including fictional characters - to queerphobic, often racist as hell, patriarchal standards of What THE TWO GENDERS Should Look Like, as long as you turn around and say "but being the identity I prescribe you is a good thing"
Like, headcanon a character as whatever queer identity you want on whatever scrap you want, of course, but when you insist that your tiny scrap of circumstantial non-evidence that you're running with for fun is ACTUALLY deliberate coding and this is how the character is MEANT to be read even in the face of tons of cultural evidence to the contrary (and inb4 any deliberate bad faith readings whether in agreement or disagreement no I don't mean the white weeb "I know they SAID this character is trans but they clearly didn't MEAN that because that doesn't EXIST in Japan" BS), well...
What i'm saying is that I feel we're collectively Be Gay Do Crimes-ing a bit too close to old-fashioned gender essentialism, y'know?

I feel like the "don't explain, apologize" disagreement is confused by the vague wording of the original posts. Does "I didn't know" or "I didn't mean to" count as an explanation? Because it seems like a lot of apologies over legitimate misunderstandings or accidents would be dismissed as not genuine if you didn't give at least a brief "it wasn't my intention to hurt you" statement.
Like, you knock someone over by mistake; "sorry, I didn't see you there."
You use a word you didn't know was a slur, "Sorry, I didn't know that, I won't use that word going forward."
Or is it more, to build on the latter example, if you went on an explanation of how you watched the Hunchback of Notre Dame as a kid, and it was fine then, etc.? Like making the apology about you?
So this post is my life now apparently.
Okay, so let's break it down. When apologizing, you can say things like "I didn't mean to" or "it was never my intention" as long as you make it clear that you acknowledge that you did the harm, and you're not trying to excuse the harm.
Like saying something like "I never meant to hurt you -- but I know that what I meant doesn't matter, and I'm so sorry that I did" is perfectly fine in most situations (as long as you, y'know, actually mean it).
Also, things like "I was really overwhelmed and I took it out on you, and that's not fair" are also fine. In both of these cases the focus is on the harm done.
When we talk about explaining, I mean when you start giving a a full back story to your actions. Let's pick an extreme example for illustrative purposes -- say you're a sheltered suburban kid who hasn't been exposed to a lot of overt racism in your life. Say there's a word that has a normal, innocuous meaning -- but in specific contexts is very much a slur for a certain minority group.
But you don't know that. You have literally no idea.
And one day, a classmate does something that angers you. That classmate happens to be a member of that minority group. You, being the obnoxiously "unique" person you think you are have a habit of using random words as insults.
And today you pick that word to insult that person.
And, uh, the room turns 90 degrees on you. You're in a new reality now. You just did something awful on accident, and you are going to apologize, right?
When you apologize, are you going to sit there and try to explain to this person your whole back story of never being exposed to this word? On how you didn't know? How you're not really racist? Because, spoiler, they do not give a shit. And they are probably not going to believe you. Because while you weren't trying to use a slur, you were literally trying to insult them.
No, you're going to apologize. You'll say you didn't mean it, but you're not going to give them that whole story.
Now, that was obviously a (very specific) extreme example (and let's not ask Trae any follow ups about their high school years, okay?). But you can see how this principle applies.

This is actually a positive post for once.
Anyway, I really love humanity and it's all because of that goddamn S symbol children have scrawled over their notebooks for decades now. Let me explain.
Okay to head some of this off at the pass: I'm aware of the singular explanations. Specifically the Stussy thing, the "superman logo", etc. I just watched this video by LEMMiNO which I think has some pretty good theories, including some I hadn't heard of before. Using a single source for all my info on this ... generally not good ... but legit this is a thing about a doodle I used to do. If you're interested, you can certainly leap into the rabbit hole.
So anyway, stuff I hadn't heard before: How the S was a popular way to stylize an S in graffiti. This shit has been around since at least the 1800s as seen in a book by a princeton professor. Some people in the comments section had found examples of the general pattern being used in paintings as far back as the 1500s.
My fascination is with the ubiquity of it, and people's intensive, yet ultimately fruitless, attempts to find a single point of origin for the pattern. How people don't even remember how they even started doodling it. They say "I learned it from a friend who learned it from another friend who learned it from another friend ... who idk who he learned it from".
Honestly? The simplest answer really is: as humans, and especially as bored children, we love doodling shit. We love making our silly little patterns in the margins of notebooks. And (as referenced in the video) - humanity's had a long and proud history of just making intricate and repeating patterns out of things because it looks nice.
And that simplest answer: that it likely just developed organically with no real singular source. I don't know, it's just kind of having a profound affect on me. Yes I'm philosophizing about a doodle.
It feels profound to me because we live on this huge ass planet with 8 billion other people. However, no matter where we are, we all make our silly little doodles and at some point, someone comes up with the fucking "S" and teaches it to their entire class. It's very pleasing to draw, very easy to draw, and it looks really cool so of course people are going to doodle it literally everywhere. My notebooks were filled with that damn S and also a bunch of zigzag designs (shout out to my english professor for calling me out on that by calling me the "Zig Zag Queen of the Front Table" I wear that title proudly).
My other fascination with the S phenomenon is that we're always looking for an explanation as to why something happened. We always need a story, a neat little narrative. My writer brain goes off about how the S could be some occult symbol being subconsciously implanted by a slumbering eldritch god who's just waiting to be summoned by some 5th grader in Chadron, Nebraska. Or y'know ... Stussy I guess.
I mean think about the pyramids and all the (granted: incredibly racist and colonialist) theories about that*. Oh yes. The reason why civilizations on different continents who had absolutely zero interactions with each other made pyramids is because aliens did it. It's definitely got nothing to do with the fact that we all, fundamentally, likely have similar thought processes and reasoning: Thing with giant base = super duper stable = I can make a huge ass structure out of this. And we all like making giant buildings to worship, it's like fundamental to human existence that we've gotta make big shit and leave our mark.
But that's not interesting, that doesn't seem fulfilling, it doesn't seem complete. It can't be that we're a lot more connected than we all realize. It's gotta be the goddamn aliens. Or Stussy.
-
*I want to plainly express that those theories are incredibly racist and are rooted in the general colonialist BS about how those civilizations couldn't possibly be "smart" or "developed" enough or whatever. We can't forget that fact. This is definitely an entrenched belief that's still doing harm to this day and people need to fucking stop. Just because I mentioned I was "fascinated" about a particular aspect of human nature doesn't make me any less disgusted by the fucking "aliens" theory.

🛒✨💖❌🤗
All great questions, thank you!
🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.
I've noticed a lot of my fics play around with time/perception/reality, whether it's interconnecting flashbacks with the present or having nonlinear and/or unreal shenanigans going on. I think this is because I mostly write ds9 fic, and one of the main fascinations I have with that show is how almost every main character has a somewhat distorted or extraordinary perception of reality!
✨ Give you and your writing a compliment. Go on now. You know you deserve it. 😉
Aww thank you <3 uhhhh well more than one person has commented that I'm good at capturing character voices and sometimes I read my writing and think "hey they're right actually" :)
💖 What made you start writing?
The childhood urge to Make People Up and then Put Them In Situations! Fanfic specifically, it went like: pandemic -> ds9 rewatch -> unexpected obsession with the doctor lizard ship I somehow never cared about before -> getting into fanfic for the first time (I'd only occasionally read gen fics before, or b/7 lol) -> wanting to process complicated feelings I was sitting with & feeling inspired by some incredibly good fics I'd read -> voila we got 'Home'
❌ What's a trope you will never write?
Haha I've learnt to never say never, I mean if you'd asked my early 2021 self if I'd ever attempt writing romance or ship fic you'd've gotten a resounding "lmao no???" and we all know how that went
... I guess, demonising and/or killing off a character just to get OTP together? (Not a "trope" but definitely a trope y'know😂)
🤗 What advice would you give to new fanfic writers that are just getting started?
KILL 👏 THE 👏 CRINGE!! 👏 (or embrace it, whatever works :D)
Never forget you're doing this for fun! And for FREE! You don't owe anybody anything! Not so much writing advice as outlook-towards-your-writing advice, but (as long as your fics aren't like. racist or otherwise harmful lol) be proud of yourself and all your babies!
As time passes, you will inevitably come to look at your first works differently. This is where you must be vigilant against the cringe😂
Instead of "my older work is bad", think "I hadn't written much fanfic yet so I wasn't as good as I am now, and it's so cool that there's actually visible improvement"
Instead of "this fic is sooo out of character I hate it now", think "I wrote this back when I read the characters differently"
Instead of "I can't post this thing until it's perfect", think "I've gotten so used to improvement my standards are just unattainably high now, but the people reading liked what I wrote back then because something about it was good, and they'll probably like this too"
Instead of "I hate that my cringey old fics are still being read by people", think "This thing I created out of love and shared to connect with fellow fans brought them joy, and is still bringing people joy even after I've moved on, which is really cool of me actually"
Always remember your target audience is fellow obsessives with brainrot, NOT snarky people on the internet who don't care about the stories you're telling (esp if they don't even write fic! They'd never understand how hard it is to put your work out there.) Like 90% of the time when something's called "cringe", it's really just... sincere? Well, fanfic is literally a medium where people care about a show so much they voluntarily write tens of thousands of words for zero profit. It doesn't have to be good; there's published literature for that. People come to fanfic for the passion!
Don't write your blorbo with the main goal being distancing yourself from the basic girlies who like them wrong. Don't water down your favourite dynamics to cater to the people who "don't get" your ship. Fully unhinged fan content made out of love and Too Many Emotions will ALWAYS be better than painfully self-conscious works that are too afraid to be sincere imo (I don't read much smut but I'm sure this applies here too- just commit to it fully and people will find it hot! Nothing kills the vibe like being able to tell the fic writer was embarrassed they were writing this lol.)
Doesn't matter if you're writing for a rare pair that most people just go ??? at, or a popular character/pairing that's slowly starting to get hate because it's everywhere- don't be afraid to be sincere. Be fully and unapologetically insane about your obsessions and never ever get baited into being cynical about your work. Be true to yourself and have fun with your weirdo friends, and your fics will reflect that <3

Detective Inspector Enzo A. Pantazis at your service.
a 34 year old man who looks like he hasn't slept in weeks stands before you. he shakes your hand briefly yet firmly before beginning to walk.
he's wearing a generic suit and tie with a slightly oversized dark brown trenchcoat. his clothes are old yet impeccably well-tailored. a cracked watch ticks softly on his wrist.
his messy dark hair falls over his forehead but not long enough to cover his almost piercing blue eyes, dull from the exhausting horrors he's witnessed over the years. his posture is atrocious but he's about 6'1.5".

{Welcome to the Funhouse~!}
Hello, hellooo! Welcome to my blog!!
Ccs you can stay I guess but this is my silly weird guy zone so be warned I'd prefer you only view me from tags if I'm not hidden from them
Some basic information for starters:
♤My name is Branzy! I mostly go by he/him, but you can find my full list of names, pronouns, and terms here :)
♡I'm a fictive of Branzy(Craft)! I'm from the Pyxis System
♧I'm not 100% sure of my exact age, but I placed myself at 23 cause it feels correct
◇Profile picture by aoikitty! My blog title goes with that of the wonderful @clownpierced <3
That aside, a bit of misc information:
♤I don't have a huge requirement for tone tags! I mostly just need to know if you're not actually mad at me or if you're joking about something that might sound serious/legit. And I use them pretty frequently myself!!
♡I am very much alright with asks, so long as you're having basic decency. That just means don't be creepy or indecent or invasive or anything, and pleeaaasseee don't be weird or anything about A) Me being a fictive or B) my relationships with anyone in my system
♧Not an active/caught up Lifesteal enjoyer but a massive KSMP enjoyer
◇Not super surprisingly, I'm relatively into casino stuff! And by that I mean it's a special interest >:) Moreso the aesthetics of it, games, and things like rigging/cheating. Feel free to ask me about casino stuff!! But I may direct you to Pierce if it's more of his area of the interest. Ask me about roulette ask me about roulette ask me about roulette
♤My main text tag: [''roll the dice!'' | 🎲.txt]
♡For tws/cws, my format will be // topic, if you need something tagged do let me know!
♧I try to NOT vent on this account but I might complain sometimes
◇If I do reblog anything, if I don't forget to, I'll tag it with [''roll the dice!'' | 🎲.reblogs], just to be a little fancy.
All that being said! Please do not follow me if you fit any of the following criteria!
Basic DNI criteria, y'know, the typical "anti-LGBTQ+, racist/ableist/etc, pedos, nsfw/18+ blogs, pr0-ana/thinsp0, transmeds, vice versa"., ED blogs, anti-system/kin/irl, mcyt antis ofc, nontraumagenics and supporters, anti-cluster b, or any other just gross people yknow, this is a vibe zone
ALSO, IF YOU'RE ANTI-MAYO-AND-FRIES DNI (/J)
But, if you don't fit any of that criteria, then you're welcome to stay!
Just remember, when you play the casino, the house always wiiinnsss~!
