I didn't even watch "WISH" yet because in my country it will only be available at january, but people are saying it's a bad cliche so I probably won't watch at the cinema.
The thing is, even though I am a hopeless romantic, not everything has to have romance. There are princess who are perfectly fine without a prince, like Mirabel, Elsa, Merida, Moana and Raya(I do kinda like the idea of Raya with a girl, just not Namaari). But we were so robbed of seeing Asha and the star boy(he is literally a staR so I don't doubt Disney would call him StaN or something like that, so his name is Stan from now on, I am gonna call him like that, is easier than star boy). Asha and Stan had the potential to be the next Tianaveen and Rapunzel&Eugene (I don't know their ship name). The concept arts are the cutest thing I have ever seen. Also "At All Costs" (bop) would have been a love song between the two!!! Them singing it man. The pain I will feel when I don't see them passionately sing it, very "I see the light" coded, in the actual movie. Somehow, now is not feminist for a strong female character to have a male partner by her side. Like...This doesn't make sense! You can be a strong female character and have a man at the same time! Have y'all forgotten Mulan and Shang? Anna and Kristoff? Ariel and Eric? Jasmine and Aladdin? (There are more examples and I could go on all day, but you got what I meant already) I hate Disney for throwing good ideas at the trash and playing safe just for money(like Hobie Brown/Spider-Punk said "it's a metaphor for capitalism"). And as the guy looked blonde with blue/green eyes in the arts I have seen, and Asha is a black latina, they lost the opportunity of having a biracial couple ACTUALLY DONE RIGHT (Pocahontas and John Smith don't count, he is a collonizer with the most common name in the world, she deserves so much better). Like, if the thing is show how inclusive you are by having a black latina female protagonist for little girls to see and feel represented in a good way, you could have increased that feeling by making someone fall in love for her. Little girls would feel like they are beautiful and desired/desireable in a positive way and that they worthy of being loved and love and be with whoever they want to be with, even someone who has a different skin color.
I am also mad because we could have seen Disney's first evil villain COUPLE with King Magnifico and his wife, the queen(still don't know her name, sorry). Can't you guys imagine the HITS, THE FIRST PLACE OF BILLBOARD HOT 100 WORTHY songs, they would proportionate us? Even if only one song, it would be enough for me. But someone thought having a female villain would be anti-feminist and they discarded an original and authentic idea, which is what Disney built its empire on the first place. Come on Disney minorities don't want to be portrayed as those unrealistic superior beings, they want to be portrayed as real human beings with emotions, struggles, qualities and flaws. Having an iconic female villain like you guys always had(like Maleficent, Cruella De Vil, Ursula, Mother Gothel, Lady Tremaine, etc) and set her up with an iconic male villain(like Gaston, Doctor Facilier, Shan Yu, Jafar, Hans, etc) it would have been top notch, god tier. King Magnifico and the queen could have been like the Gomez and Morticia of evil. You could address so many topics by it. Like the kingdom being ruled by evil would have been a great social critic of some politicians out there, for example. And we could have had an iconic final boss battle between Asha and Stan VS Magnifico and the queen.
Anyway, what I mean by this is that if someone has fanarts or just ANY CONTENT, of Asha and Stan, tag me, reblog this or comment, I don't care, just warn me, because they are my new obsession. I will also write a fanfic about this movie with these ideas, but only after I have watched the movie so until them, please feed my hyperfixation in Stasha (Star boy/Stan×Asha), I'm begging y'all

Greetings! I'm asking the reverse of a question from a few weeks ago.
Who would be each ASOIAF character's favourite X-man, or mutant if you prefer? Obviously there's a lot of ASOIAF characters, only whoever strikes your fancy of course.
Thanks!
I could have sworn I had done this years ago, but I think I must have gotten a draft or something eaten back in 2018 when I did the reverse of this. In order to make this a bit more manageable, I'm going to stick with ASOIAF POV characters only.
Bran - Xavier. A morally ambiguous disabled psychic. Kind of over-determined, really.
Catelyn - Madelyne Pryor. A wronged wife with red hair granted dark powers to wreak revenge.
Daenerys - Jean Grey. A woman of immense supernatural power who literally walks through fire? C'mon.
Eddard - Cyclops. Honorable warrior respects honorable warrior.
Jon - also Cyclops, but only after the Dark Phoenix Saga.
Arya - Laura Kinney or Gabby. Not sure which.
Sansa - starts as Firestar fan (justice for Lady Butterrum!) ends as Emma Frost stan.
Tyrion - this is more a deep cut, but I think Tyrion would be a huge Whiz-Kid fan, especially his S.W.O.R.D era incarnation.
Theon - I think Theon would be a Quentin Quire fan; something about the combination of great potential and raging insecurity.
Davos - Gambit comes closest, but I could see an argument for Storm, especially Storm's depowered era.
Melisandre - Rachel Summers. Fire, Mother Askani prophecies, the whole shebang.
Jaime - big fan of the Fenris twins. Just kidding. He's super into Angel/Warren Worthington III, and has confused thoughts about whether Warren is better off with Candy Southern or Psylocke.
Brienne - super into the Captains Britain.
Samwell Tarly - I think he'd be a Beast fan, but Percy's X-Force would make him very sad.
Aeron Greyjoy - Exodus is another predetermined choice.
Victarion Greyjoy - doesn't see why Sabertooth has such a bad reputation.
Asha Greyjoy - big Laura Kinney fan.
Arienne Martell - I could see her being an Emma Frost stan.
Barristan Selmy - Cable. Again, white-haired grizzled soldier who protects children of destiny. Not a hard pick.
Quentyn Martell - has a soft spot for Beak.

I have a theory why tradfems fester in the ASOIAF fandom, first one is that the fandom is filled with tradcels, so some are genuine pickmes who are into the series to get male attention. and others, the Stansas..i think they have a super shallow/self insert reading of their faves? aside from QITN/Jonsa/shitting on DanyArya nonsense they mostly like Sansa just because she's feminine. They praise stuff of her that is supposed to be seen in a negative light like her shallowness or lack of smarts and then make horrible takes about how she's revolutionary because she wears dresses unlike all other literature heroines cause they wear pants? nevermind they ignore the historical context for why Sansa would wear a dress in contrast to say a YA heroine living in modern day USA. it gets stupidier the more you think of it.
I definitely agree, and the whole situation is a lot more nuanced and understated than a lot of hardcore Stansas would have you believe.
I think the show can be blamed in part for depicting its female characters as archetypes of gender stereotypes. For example, Arya is often relegated to the role of the “not like other girls” female character. Dany is never allowed to be warm and caring like her book counterpart, and Sansa is made out to basically be a “damsel in distress” the first few seasons, and then a girl boss in the last few. The show runners really did not want these female characters to be multi-dimensional, they wanted to fit them into neat little gendered boxes.
The show would also rather have female characters r*ped than have consensual sex. As evidence by excluding female characters that do have a healthy relationship with sex (Asha, Val, Arianne) from the narrative.
In Westeros things like being intelligent, strong and independent are seen as masculine. Whereas traits like kindness, softness, and dependance on others are seen as feminine. But as the reader you are meant to know that traits like compassion or brutality are not feminine or masculine, and yet there are still readers that buy into the gender roles of Westeros without examining why they believe that adventuring for instance, is for men, and sitting in towers is for women. Gender is not as simple as “girls wear dresses and boys wear pants” and even though that is the general belief in Westeros, that is evidently not what the reader is meant to believe. And through characters like Daenerys, Arya, Sansa, Asha, Arianne, Val, Brienne and more, that could not be made any more clear to the reader.
Some people are selective readers, some people have only seen the show and not read the books, others read the books a long time ago and have forgotten things, others only re-read their favs chapters and allow their favourite character’s own biases to influence their view of other characters. Despite the fact it is made clear no character is entirely objective and they all have their own biases and version of events.
Aside from that, I don’t get the Jonsa ship. To each their own, but I don’t understand how such an obscure pairing can be so popular. Jon and Sansa have not interacted one on one at any point in the entire book series (that I recall). On top of that, they only think of one another when they think of all of their siblings combined. I don’t believe there is a single instance of Jon thinking about Sansa individually or vice versa at any point in all of ASOIAF to date. Jon does think about Arya very fondly a whole lot, and vice versa. In fact, there is way more evidence for Jon x Arya than there is for Jon x Sansa (though I don’t care at all for either ship). But then again, maybe that’s why some Sansa stans insist on the Jonsa ship? Because they hate the idea of their favourite male character being closer to their favourite female character’s “rival” (Arya) than their favourite female character in question (Sansa)? I also think some people watched the show and saw how close Sansa and Jon seemed to be in the last few seasons and conflated that with some unseen truth that must exist in the books, even though we all know that pretty much everything in season 6 of GOT and onwards was bullshit.
Which brings me to my final point, which is that a lot of hardcore Stansas and Arya stans insist on this character war, and push the extreme idea that Sansa and Arya are enemies instead of… sisters that don’t get along.

2.
Th€yne? Thram$ay? Gre¥$now? Nah man, let's Stan the true unproblematic hot Ironborn x thirsty Mainlander OTP:
Captain of the Myraham's daughter x Hagen's beautiful red haired daughter.
I want them to hook up. Let the captain of the Myraham's daughter live her erotic saltwife fantasy with the one (1) woman in Asha's crew that we know of, the one ironborn hot murderous pirate who would actually understand the struggle that is to act as a narrative prop for some authorial entity to showcase one of the Greyjoy's siblings lack of ideological integrity.
I have been marinating in my own theories with little to no contact with the fandom since 2016. I have a lot of weird non-sensical thoughts that might be overreaching in their significance but you know that already and the worst possible thing that could develop from posting this is that people will laugh at it.
I think that Kyra and Urri serve as similar narrative props for Theon & Aeron, I think Jeyne & Falia also serve as similar narrative props for Theon & Aeron and I also think that the Captain of the Myraham's Daughter & Hagen's beautiful red haired daughter serve as similar props for Theon & Asha.
In Theon's case the concept of the captain of the myraham's daughter has already been discussed countless times and in all honesty I don't have much to add to it. Yes, he does treat her rather disrespectfully, he does take advantage of her in a way, he doesn't really care for her physical pleasure, he is dismissive of her uneasiness and has a few unkind thoughts about her which made him so loathsome, but all in all I wouldn't call him abusive or violent. Just disappointing.
There is something unbelievably funny about how bad that sexual encounter goes though. The captain of the myraham's daughter is endearingly enthusiastic about the concept of thraldom and salt wives and even begs Theon to take her with him, something he denies her.
Why though? He has been romanticising the Old Way (Or what he thinks he understands about this idolised and romanticised view of the Old Way) the entire journey and if he truly considers himself to be one of the exemplary Ironborns who would take what they wanted with no qualms, why does he leave her there? She could have even served as an example of virility or status, a mark to say "I am Ironborn. I haven't forgotten our history and culture."
But no, he just leaves her there to the mercy of an angry father.
I know she has been read as a narrative vessel hundreds of times and she is one, but the message behind her presence varies depending on interpretation and, to me, this could be (among other things) a way of displaying Theon's subconscious lack of ideological compromise, which we see often through the text (his reaction to the raids on the stony shore, his disappointment at how commonly the other Ironborn treat him, Smiler, etc.)
To me Hagen's beautiful red haired daughter is also evidence for an ideological divide concerning Ironborn culture and tradition, but she is there to signify Asha's, not Theon's.
Ironborn culture is so interesting to me and I tend to think of it more fondly than I'm probably supposed to because of hundreds of reasons I've already told you about and one of those is that it allows women more liberties than most of Westeros but still chains them to a place of submission compared to men. A woman might be the captain of her own ship, which would make her a queen if going by Theon.
"If every captain was a king aboard his own ship, as was often said, it was small wonder they named the islands the land of ten thousand kings." (Theon | ACOK)
I think on the video games they could even become priestesses for the Drowned God, so if going by that as canon world-building (we shouldn't but it would be cool) they could also find a place in religious organisations. They can be stewards. The only two female stewards we have met in asoiaf are Iron Islanders (Manifesting for Noseless Jeyne to become Pyke or Harlaw's steward at the end of ADOS).
And yet...the most gender-non-conforming Ironborn woman we've met, asides from Asha...doesn't even get a name.
It seems curious to me how Hagen's beautiful red haired daughter is only known as that: "Hagen's daughter" and this coming from ASHA out of all characters who is actively struggling with her culture's sexism in order to get the seastone chair for herself.
Most Iroborn characters are referred to by mentioning some physical feature or disability accompanying their name, but in her case, instead of her name, we get her father's name used with a possessive apostrophe.
The main difference between Asha's character archetype and Hagen's beautiful red haired daughter's, is that one of them is lowborn and the other not, which could be a way of highlighting how class differences still exist among Ironborn, who consider themselves to be equals in their superiority of other races but still have a feudal hierarchy, but in all honesty the class issue is (in my opinion) overshadowed by how both characters identities are so depending on their fathers.
The text often remarks on Asha as someone who was "groomed" (the very use of that word in fanon text already has some unconscious troublesome connotation I don't agree with) into her personality by her father.
This girl forgets herself. Balon let her believe she was a man." "Balon’s sons are dead. All I see is Balon’s little daughter!" (Aeron | AFFC)
Never do they ever speak of her as "Asha" when it is about her wanting the crown; it's about Balon's daughter. (In a way it reminds me of the Northerner's going to save Arya and also not referring to her as such. They speak of "Ned's girl")
But anyway, I never really expected them to refer to Asha as Asha, but I would have hoped Asha would have been conscious enough of her struggles to recognise her fellow warrior woman as more than just her father's shadow.
Whenever people speculate on how Asha's interactions with other gender-non-conforming women (ex. Brienne, Arya) might look like, I just think of Hagen's beautiful red haired daughter. and wonder whether this comes from a place of class privilege or unconsciousness against the thing she is consciously fighting against.
I have no idea what Asha's endgame might look like and usually, I like seeing her as Theon's puppeteer, but if we have to witness her settling to be the unofficial ruler or perhaps not even a ruler at all, it would be sad to see her haunted by her father's shadow. It also makes me wonder whether she really ever had a chance at the Kingsmoot.
Whatever, another possibility I like to fantasise about is simply that Asha and Hagen's beautiful red haired daughter hooked up, dated, had a messy breakup and now Asha is trying to distance herself from her.
That's a funnier alternative. Would also add angst and maybe some comedic potential to the nameless ladies OTP.
Ship, ship, ship, I ship.

Do the things that S@nsa stans come up have similarities to terf rhetoric or is it just me? All the crap about femininity vs masculinity. X is feminine and makes you a real woman. Y is masculine blah blah blah. Brienne, Arya and Asha aren't as inspiring because they "behave like men" while Sansa is the best lady because she is a real woman. Idk, some of them might be terfs/radfems too.
I wouldn't say they are quite the same, but they are getting there. IMO it’s not Terf rhetoric considering the context is different and context is always important, but similar language is being used. I get the feeling that these fans are not really thinking about the language they are using and the consequences of said language, when they spew this nonsense?
I have not seen much hate for and sexist rhetoric against Asha because Sansa stans don’t have anything against the character, unlike their dislike for Arya and Dany. And much of this rhetoric comes from Sansa Stans.
There are two issues at hand here. One is that AGoT Sansa is a vain bully, a classist snob and a pro-patriarchal misogynist. And because they don't accept that Sansa Stark has these flaws, some of which she gradually grows out of over 5 books, they end up defending bullying, classism and misogyny and end up using language similar to terf rhetoric.
The other issue seems to be this need in fandom for Sansa Stark to be universally loved, that her flaws not be discussed, that any critique of the character is seen as misogynistic Sansa hate because she's a quote 'girly girl' - and in putting forth these argument, female characters like Arya and Daenerys are often targeted using terf like rhetoric - they are not real female characters, they are male coded, they have male values, only men like them, they are aggressive, they cannot be maternal, they are not kind, they cannot have romance, they cannot have happy endings.
And this is despite there being MORE instances in the text of the books for characters like Arya, Daenerys and Brienne being more kind, empathetic, compassionate and maternal than Sansa and being given fledgling romantic arcs and marriage betrothal arcs same as Sansa. But for some reason none of this counts because they are not real woman.
It’s that the ‘We love Sansa’ crowd always have to tear down the other female characters in order to explain why they love Sansa - and that’s where the terf like rhetoric comes in.
And it has nothing at all to do with age. Sansa is 11 at the start of the books - the same age Arya is now. And yet Sansa is the fandom bicycle for shipping but the mere suggestion that Arya is pretty has this fandom - and not just the idiot faction - making angry rants about paedophiles in fandom.
Or them fitting Arya into stereotypes without reading the books. GRRM is very specific about this - Arya only dislikes the activities she’s not good at because she’s made to feel less loved than Sansa by her teacher and mother and it affects her self esteem. But this is then extrapolated to make it seem like Arya hates women, dislikes ‘girly’ colors and ‘girly’ activities etc. and turn Arya into this one dimensional trope in order to prop up Sansa.
It’s how Arya cannot be beautiful - despite the text saying otherwise. It’s how Arya cannot be better at managing a household than Sansa - when the text in AGOT says the opposite. It’s how Sansa has more parallels to Lyanna than Arya - despite the text saying otherwise.
It’s how GRRM also gives the female characters who go against the patriarchal norms - Lyanna, Arya, Brienne - romance arcs, but the fandom refuses to accept it.
It’s how, any time Jon/Arya is discussed, it pivots to discussions of Jon/Sansa because somehow it’s incomprehensible for Arya to have a romance arc - that’s reserved for Sansa. GRRM’s Jon/Arya in OG outline is now definitely Jon/Sansa because there’s no way Arya is getting romance and love.
It’s how Jon Snow - who gives Arya a sword and is attracted to Ygritte despite her killing an old, helpless man and attracted to Val for stabbing people in the neck - will somehow hate Arya and Dany because they have killed.
Dany and to a lesser extent Arya (Harrenhal) have clearly political arcs. But it’s Sansa who is seen as having a political arc despite doing nothing political in 5 books compared to them - why? Because of this sexist strand of thought that politics is the domain of the only real female character in the books - and that’s Sansa. The show followed the same philosophy.
The way soft power has been twisted to mean something feminine and therefore only Sansa is going to wield it - when we already have many instances of both male and female Rulers/Hands of Rulers/ Lord Comanders etc. use both soft power and hard power.
Sansa is Bran the Builder reborn and will rebuild Winterfell because she made a snow model of WF - this is taken as indisputable fact by fandom. But Daenerys actually rebuilding a city state and it’s economy from scratch or Arya wanting to be a King’s councilor and build things, being able to easily connect with the small folk and workers, being charismatic and getting people to easily follow her, knowing the hardships faced by the smallfolk - these characters will not contribute anything to the hard job of rebuilding Westeros after the Long Night.
Sansa wants home, family, love, marriage, children and romance and therefore she will get them. So does Dany? But since Dany’s arc also involves the mundane tediousness of ruling, being an army commander, having dragons and being a powerful leader in her own right - she’s dark!Dany with arcs like having to do penance for her father and slaughtering innocents and sacrificing herself. No romance, marriage, children or family and home for her!
Arya also wants home, family and love. She’s wanted them ever since she left WF in book one. She’s been actively trying to get to family - first to Robb and Cat, and then to Jon at the wall - since the end of book one. But nah, she will have nothing to do in WF, no important relationships or arcs that sees her at Winterfell and instead will sail off on adventures at the end of the book.
Sansa is a survivor, her arc is about surviving as a woman in Westeros using only her wits.  Arya, Brienne and Dany are also survivors. They have also survived in Westeros as women using their wits.
The notion that Sansa stands out because she is kind and compassionate . Even child murderers like Jaime, the Hound and Theon have moments of kindness. Jaime is kind to Tyrion. Theon risks his life for a nobody like Jeyne Poole while Sansa threatens the Maester to give her little cousin who is frail and of ill health, dangerous levels of Sweetsleep because LF’s plans and her own survival is more important.  Tyrion was nice to Jon (More than Sansa at that point! There’s a reason for Jon thinking, about Tyrion’s status rather than Sansa’s after the Tyrion/Sansa marriage is brought up).
The notion that Sansa holds onto her values and ideals despite seeing the worst of Westeros and being abused. If by holding onto her values/ideals we are talking about her tendency to throw family under the bus for selfish reasons, then this true (’Arya has the traitor’s blood, not me. I am good.’, ’Maester Coleman only cares for the boy, father and I have larger concerns.’).
Rather it’s characters like Brienne who are still being true knights and holding onto their moral values and ideals despite everything and Westeros treating them like trash for doing the right thing. It’s Dany still staying on in Meereen to do right by her people despite so many characters telling her to leave and go after the Iron Throne like she wants to.
The age excuse for everything that Sansa does, but never applied to Dany and Arya.
I could go one and on about the fandom double standards and hypocrisy with how Sansa is analyzed and treated vs female characters like Arya, Dany and Brienne because of sexism, misogyny and this notion that there is only one right way to be a woman.
Funnily enough, for all the cries from Sansa stans about sansa criticism being from sexist dudebros, in many ways the edgy asoiaf reddit dudebros have more in common with the ‘We love all female characters the same’ Sansa stans on tumblr. I am referring to the Asoiaf reddit dudebros who think Arya is a damaged sociopath and will die and Sansa will get Nymeria and Dany’s show ending makes sense.
The dudebros who dislike Dany, wielding power in her own right and is therefore threatening to their male faves like Stannis or Jon and has a story arc generally given to male characters in fantasy, more than Sansa who they seem to think is more realistic, and is a good person because she is polite and ‘feminine’ and kind and compassionate and all the points I mentioned above. In other words how female characters should be in their opinion - when Sansa has been a political pawn for something like 4 books with not much agency.
And it’s not even about negating Sansa’s qualities. She does have instances of being kind and compassionate and continuing to be idealistic and having empathy and wanting romance, love, marriage, children, home and family and LF involving her in the politics of the Vale and political intrigue and all that.
The fandom sexism/terf like rhetoric is because she is singled out and these qualities are highlighted specifically for her because she is seen as feminine and womanly. It’s this opinion that these qualities are seen only in women/girls like her. When Arya, Dany and Brienne also have those same qualities, but they are ignored because they are seen as being ‘male coded’ and all that misogynistic nonsense.
Sansa is 11-13 years old in the books but we still have all these essays about how she is so maternal and wants to have babies and will definitely have 4 children with Jon - based on Sansa’s idealistic fantasies about Willas Tyrell. But Dany is called Myhsa and Mother of dragons, has lost her baby, mothers Missandei and her child hostages and does not want to harm them (Whereas Jon promises to behead his child hostages if the Freefolk misbehave) and despite all this Dany is dark and evil and a tyrant. Again, it’s the sexist notion that only one type of woman can be maternal and love children. When GRRM has had different types of mothers - Cersei, Catelyn - and different types of fathers - Ned, Jaime, Robert, these kind of sexist categorizations are nonsensical.
And that’s the problem.
So this became sort of a long rant in response to your question. But yeah, sometimes I tend to go on long rants 😂.

So I was gonna send an ask about how dumb and baseless the Tyrion as a dragon rider theory is, and how D&D totally fuelled it with Tyrion being able to touch them solely because they wanted their fave to be even more extra special, but I got distracted by the ‘Jon lying in a cold bed’ part of the curtain of light quote, it just reminded me that jonerii think that part is proof that Jon is the man with an ‘icy manhood’ and blue lips that Dany dreamt of💀 Which is just endlessly amusing to me because even if he is…is that meant to be a good thing? What part of “his manhood was cold as ice” can be seen as foreshadowing for good sex between them, let alone a loving relationship of any kind?? If I were a Dany stan who believed that I wouldn’t want Jon’s icy dick anywhere near my fave 😂 anyway I’m a Dany/Euron truther, the man who’s actually already been described to have blue lips (though the temperature of his dick is as yet uncertain), the show had to pivot entirely and have Theon and Asha ally with her because the minute she interacts with Euron everyone is going to realise she’s bad news, and they needed to preserve their precious twist for the very last second xx
Storm x Storm truther! Come hold my hand.
It's always been amusing to me that the major Greyjoy pivot on the show isn't more scrutinized by the fandom. Why does nobody ask themselves how Daenerys is going to cross the sea? Do people not realize that Asha and Theon will not be providing her with a fleet? Is that not a tiny bit concerning?
Regardless of whether it's Victarion or Euron, that is not a good situation to be in. It begs the question, what did she give up? They better pray to R’hllor that enough Volantis ships survive the battle in Meereen.
As a side note, I must confess, I love that the show had everyone and their dog touch and ride those dragons. You just know it pissed them off.

I know you've gotten anons about the YMBQ prophecy recently but I was wondering in what context could it be obvious for the reader that Daenerys is the YMBQ if Cersei is most likely to die or leave KL once Aegon arrives and not Daenerys. Even if Daenerys takes KL later on wouldn't he technically be the one to take all she holds dear (her power as regent)?
First of all, Anon, I think it’s interesting that you say that Young Griff (rather than Arianne) would take all that Cersei holds dear in this hypothetical scenario (that most people assume will come to pass). asoiaf tumblr fandom loved (loves?) to take for granted that Arianne would be YMBQ (after all, it was/is taken for granted that she would marry Young Griff and become his queen consort) years ago. At the same time, though, I’m not sure if you’re implying that Young Griff might actually be the one to fulfill the YMB(Q) prophecy in this ask. I actually saw this theory before. So I’m going to make counterarguments to this theory first and then address your question about how and when Dany might be revealed as the YMBQ (and if that’s what you were specifically looking for, just skip to the end, though you might be disappointed by the fact that I'm not really providing definitive answers because I have a lot of doubts myself).
In a way, it makes more sense for Young Griff to fulfill the prophecy rather than Arianne. Let’s remember what Cersei wants the most, which is shown in the beginning of her very first chapter:
She dreamt she sat the Iron Throne, high above them all. (AFFC Cersei I)
Unfortunately for Cersei, she can’t ever actually sit the Iron Throne, which is pointed out several times:
Cersei shifted in her seat as he went on, wondering how long she must endure his hectoring. Behind her loomed the Iron Throne, its barbs and blades throwing twisted shadows across the floor. Only the king or his Hand could sit upon the throne itself. Cersei sat by its foot, in a seat of gilded wood piled with crimson cushions. (AFFC Cersei V)
~
Seated on her gold-and-crimson high seat beneath the Iron Throne, Cersei could feel a growing tightness in her neck. (AFFC Cersei VII)
~
Cersei sat beneath the Iron Throne, clad in green silk and golden lace. (AFFC Cersei X)
As the first quote states, only the king or the Hand can sit the Iron Throne, which is what Cersei wants the most, since, to her, it symbolizes almost unlimited power ("high above them all"). Indeed, I would argue that what Cersei holds dear is the chance to reign supreme (“The rule was hers; Cersei did not mean to give it up until Tommen came of age. [...] If Margaery Tyrell thinks to cheat me of my hour in the sun, she had bloody well think again.”), not “her power as regent” (as you put it), which is limited by nature. After all, the king’s wife and mother can’t sit the Iron Throne. This means three things to me:
Queen consorts like Margaery or Arianne (if she actually marries Young Griff, which is far from certain) can’t take all that Cersei holds dear.
Queens claiming power in their own right but who have no claim to the Iron Throne are excluded too. In other words, Asha or QitN!Sansa (another fan theory that’s far from certain and that’s accepted as future canon) can’t take all that Cersei holds dear.
Only a she-king (that is, a queen regnant) with a claim to the Iron Throne can take all that Cersei holds dear - that’s Dany.
But then, we have Young Griff. He is a king with a claim to the Iron Throne, so he could, in theory, take what Cersei holds dear and fulfill the prophecy. However, I find that very unlikely for a number of reasons:
GRRM doesn’t highlight men’s physical appearances or objectify them in the same way that he does with women, as a lot of people have already criticized him for. He makes a point of mentioning women’s accomplishments along with overpraise for their physical appearances (though one might be generous and chalk that up to social commentary about how their society objectifies women instead of giving them their due praise for what they do). He encourages his fans to speculate about who is the YMB(Q) and pit his female characters against each other based on their physical appearances (e.g., people have criticized how Sansa stans often mention the number of times the word “beautiful” appears in Sansa’s chapters to back up their belief that she’s the YMB(Q), but the way GRRM himself wrote the prophecy lends itself to this sort of analysis) because he uses certain tropes uncritically. He portrays fat women negatively in comparison to thin women (see: Cersei (who’s said to be gaining weight throughout AFFC as she becomes more unstable) vs Dany, Lysa vs Cat, Barba Bracken vs Melissa Blackwood, arguably Rhaenyra vs Alicent). He takes an almost voyeuristic pleasure in describing women’s bodies and women having sex with women (see how Dany and Irri’s or Cersei and Taena’s sexual encounters don’t give any depth to Dany’s, Irri’s and Taena’s characters and, as far as I can tell, are mostly written to fetishize them). Consider, for instance, how 13- to 16-year-old Dany is the most sexualized character of the book series, while I’m not even sure if her male counterpart Jon is supposed to be considered attractive or not (on the one hand, he’s attracted women like Ygritte and Val; on the other hand, he’s meant to look a lot like Ned, who’s regarded as plain in appearance, especially in comparison to the hot-blooded Brandon). All of this is to say that I doubt that a man will fulfill a prophecy that remarks upon the person’s physical appearance (“younger and more beautiful”). Considering GRRM’s writing problems, a woman is much more likely to do so.
Young Griff is supposed to represent a lesser version of Dany (note that I’m talking about Young Griff as a fictional character, not as a person). After all, unlike Dany, Young Griff didn’t get to have lived experience of poverty, he didn’t get to have his skills tested, he didn’t get to apply the lessons he learned along the way, he didn’t get to take action and make mistakes and gain valuable experience and wisdom, he didn’t get to choose to stay in Slaver’s Bay solely to help marginalized people who aren’t connected to him by neither blood nor lands (which would emphasize how he doesn’t view his birthright merely as something owed to him, but rather as a means to “protect the ones who can’t protect themselves”). He could have had this sort of character development if GRRM wanted him to, but he has a different role in the narrative: he’s a tertiary character who we’re not meant to know all that much as a person or about how he would fare as king because he serves as a foil to Dany. With all of that in mind, what would be the point of having this minor character, who was introduced in the fifth book of a seven-book series, fulfill this prophecy rather than the one protagonist who the author said was deliberately written as Cersei’s foil multiple times (more on that below)?
Which brings me to a point that @rainhadaenerys made in our upcoming Dany/Cersei meta... Cersei views women with contempt because she thinks that they can only attain political influence with “tears” and with what’s “between [their] legs” (as she tells Sansa). This informs why, for example, she projects the unfounded idea that a widow must have lovers on Margaery or why she herself uses money and sex to keep her men loyal (which ultimately backfires on her). Unfortunately, it’s true that “[Cersei’s] strength relies on her beauty, birth and riches”. Because of her internalized misogyny, Cersei can’t conceive of a woman who might rise to power primarily because of her intelligence and shrewdness… Except that there is a woman who successfully conquered three cities and ruled the third and freed thousands of slaves relying primarily on her actual wit, political savviness and leadership skills rather than on sex, birthright or money… Dany. Dany is the competent, selfless ruler who could overcome many of the patriarchal limitations that Cersei couldn’t (hence why Cersei is a tragic figure). If Young Griff were to be the YMB(Q), he would simply be one of the many men (along with Robert, her brother, her father and the other Hands) who Cersei thinks wronged her and prevented her from staying in power. If Daenerys were to be the YMBQ, she would challenge Cersei’s toxic beliefs about women, which prevented Cersei from even imagining that a she-king might be the one foreshadowed to defeat her or that a woman (that isn’t her, of course) could actually be able to earn her accomplishments (just like she can’t imagine that Jaime might actually betray and kill her). Now, someone might argue that GRRM is not “woke” enough to do this, but I would disagree in this particular case. There are valid critiques to be made about how he wrote his female characters (I’ve made some points myself on the first item), but it’s still true that Dany’s character arc was written with awareness of how her gender affects her experiences. If that hadn’t been the case, AGOT wouldn’t have initially set up several men (Viserys, Rhaego, Drogo) to be claimant to the Iron Throne/SWMTW/the protagonist only to reveal that these roles are actually meant to be fulfilled by Dany, a woman. If that hadn’t been the case, he wouldn’t have had Maester Aemon acknowledge that “no one had ever looked for a girl” when they pondered on who might be AA/PTWP. So I don’t put it past GRRM to make Dany the YMBQ as a way of challenging Cersei’s entire worldview.
Indeed, I actually think that’s likely to be what he’ll write. GRRM has stated multiple times that Dany and Cersei are meant to be compared and contrasted because they were consciously written by him (specially in AFFC/ADWD) as narrative foils:
George regrets that Cersei and Dany will not be contrasted directly. (x)
~
His biggest lament in splitting A Feast for Crows from A Dance with Dragons is the parallels he was drawing between Circe and Daenerys. (x)
~
Cersei and Daenerys are intended as parallel characters --each exploring a different approach to how a woman would rule in a male dominated, medieval-inspired fantasy world. (x)
~
While discussing how he writes his female characters, he also mentioned that splitting the books as he did this time meant we didn't get the parallel between how Danaerys and Cersei both approach the task of leadership, which is a bit of a shame. (x)
~
And that one of the things he regrets losing from the POV split is that he was doing point and counterpoint with the Dany and Cersei scenes--showing how each was ruling in their turn. (x)
I think Young Griff as the YMB(Q) is very, very unlikely. If it’s not Dany, then I think Brienne (who at least is a viewpoint character that we know intimately) as the YMBQ (though I doubt it because she can only take Jaime away from Cersei and, as we saw in AFFC, Cersei was willing to separate herself from Jaime once she realized that he would question and disagree with her decisions and, in her mind, threaten her influence and power, i.e., what she wants the most) or even Cersei herself (the basis of this theory is that a younger Cersei caused her own downfall by making the choices she made. It’s not impossible considering that Cersei’s unreliable viewpoint prevents her from ever taking responsibility for her actions. Still, I think it’s unlikely because she’s been positioned as a passive participant in these prophecies - someone/some people kills her children, some person takes away everything she holds dear, some person murders her. Just like there’s a valonqar to kill Cersei, I think there’ll be a YMBQ to defeat her) are more plausible candidates. However, as I said in previous answers, Dany and Cersei have lots of clearly intended parallels and anti parallels (hence why GRRM mentioned them at least five times publicly) that people don’t often appreciate (but that I don’t want to mention here because I’m saving them for edits and that long meta). I find it hard to believe that GRRM would lay all this groundwork to contrast these two queens only to reveal that a minor character is the actual YMB(Q).
Now, the question about “in what context could it be obvious for the reader that Daenerys is the YMBQ” is difficult because, IMO, I don’t feel like there’s enough information to give you a reliable answer. First, let’s recap the most common theories, which, while I don’t think should be accepted as canon just yet, are popular for logical reasons. Here’s what GRRM said about the future events in the initial outline and interviews:
While the lion of Lannister and the direwolf of Stark snarl and scrap, however, a second and greater threat takes shape across the narrow sea, where the Dothraki horselords mass their barbarian hordes for a great invasion of the Seven Kingdoms, led by the fierce and beautiful Daenerys Stormborn, the last of the Targaryen dragonlords. The Dothraki invasion will be the central story of my second volume, A Dance with Dragons. (x)
~
GRRM: Yes, three more volumes remain. The series could almost be considered as two linked trilogies, although I tend to think of it more as one long story. The next book, A Dance With Dragons, will focus on the return of Daenerys Targaryen to Westeros, and the conflicts that creates. After that comes The Winds of Winter. I have been calling the final volume A Time For Wolves, but I am not happy with that title and will probably change it if I can come up with one that I like better. (x)
~
He said that in his original plan (when he wanted to write a trilogy) the Red Wedding would take place in book one, and Dany’s landing in Westeros in book two. Now he says that Dany’s arrival in Westeros will take place in book 5, A Dance with Dragons. (x)
~
From there he started to plan a trilogy, since there were 3 main conflicts (Starks/Lannisters; Dany; and the Others) it felt it would neatly fit into a trilogy (ah!), but like Tolkien said, the tale grew in the telling. (x)
~
“Well, Tyrion and Dany will intersect, in a way, but for much of the book they’re still apart,” he says. “They both have quite large roles to play here. Tyrion has decided that he actually would like to live, for one thing, which he wasn’t entirely sure of during the last book, and he’s now working toward that end—if he can survive the battle that’s breaking out all around him. And Dany has embraced her heritage as a Targaryen and embraced the Targaryen words. So they’re both coming home.” (x)
GRRM’s words seem to indicate that Dany will go to Dragonstone ("they're both coming home") and then King’s Landing in her campaign to take back the Seven Kingdoms before she goes to the Wall to fight against the Others.
And it is quite possible that she will clash with Young Griff. For one:
Hi, short question. Will we find out more about the Dance of the Dragons in future books?
The first dance or the second?
The second will be the subject of a book. The first will be mentioned from time to time, I'm sure. (x)
For two:
"It is dragons."
"Dragons?" said her mother. "Teora, don't be mad."
"I'm not. They're coming."
"How could you possibly know that?" her sister asked, with a note of scorn in her voice. "One of your little dreams?"
Teora gave a tiny nod, chin trembling. "They were dancing. In my dream. And everywhere the dragons danced the people died." (TWOW Arianne I)
For three:
Glowing like sunset, a red sword was raised in the hand of a blue-eyed king who cast no shadow. A cloth dragon swayed on poles amidst a cheering crowd. From a smoking tower, a great stone beast took wing, breathing shadow fire ... mother of dragons, slayer of lies … (ACOK Daenerys IV)
Now, here are my observations/questions/doubts:
The “cloth dragon” receiving a round of cheers from the crowd seems to indicate that a) Tommen will indeed fall from power when Young Griff (who’s already in Westeros almost ready to attack) invades King’s Landing and that b) Young Griff will inspire love from the population.
The more obvious possibility is that the second dance of dragons refers to a Dany versus Young Griff confrontation, especially since she’s prophesied to slay the lie that he represents (that he’s not Rhaegar Targaryen's son, but actually Illyrio’s son and a Blackfyre). However, since Victarion is currently in Meereen with a dragonbinder, it’s very likely that Dany will lose control of one of her dragons to a Greyjoy (either Victarion or Euron Greyjoy himself) and then will arrive in Westeros with only two of her three dragons. Or maybe Euron will use one of the dragons to attack Young Griff and that will be the second dance (though I find that unlikely since, again, Dany is prophesied to slay Young Griff’s lie). Or the second dance could actually refer to Dany versus Euron.
There are alternative speculations to consider. Right now, the consensus in the Dany fandom seems to be that there’s already too much in Dany’s plate for her (uniting all the khalasars and being hailed as the SWMTW; going back to Meereen; meeting Tyrion, Jorah, Moqorro and other characters; maybe going to Yunkai; going to Volantis; etc) to go to King’s Landing, which led to people assuming that only Cersei and JonCon will be involved in the city’s burning. It’s even theorized that Dany might actually skip King’s Landing and go to the Wall instead. These theories make a lot of sense and aren’t implausible, but it’s hard to reconcile them with GRRM’s initial intention with Dany (though it’s also been argued that he may have given part of her initial role to Young Griff). Additionally, I don’t think timeline issues are necessarily a guarantee of what GRRM will do with Dany. He made Tyrion travel much faster than reasonable back in AGOT to have him meet Catelyn in the inn at the crossroads and to be taken captive by her. So I wouldn't put it past GRRM to do something similar with Dany by having her arrive earlier in King’s Landing than she reasonably would just because he wants it to happen. And, as much as I don’t want it to happen and even though I criticized the theory before, I don’t think it’s impossible (though it’s not guaranteed either) for Dany to be accidentally involved in the burning of King’s Landing (though there is a recent counter-theory to that as well).
Re: Cersei, a lot of people tend to assume that she’s going to die when Young Griff takes King’s Landing, but I am not really sure. I do think that her parallels with Aerys II will pay off and reflect her ending. But that doesn’t prevent Cersei from surviving Young Griff’s invasion and meeting Dany later. Cersei could escape to Casterly Rock and they could meet there. Or Cersei could later attempt to retake the capital again in another impractical plan of hers, which then leads to King’s Landing burning. I don’t know.
Does Dany have to meet everyone to fulfill these prophecies? I’m not sure. Does Dany necessarily need to meet Young Griff and Stannis to slay their lies? Does she necessarily need to meet Cersei so that the readership finds out that she’s the YMBQ? Will there even be an actual moment that makes it “obvious for the reader that Daenerys is the YMBQ”? I don’t know, Anon. It may end up being up for people’s interpretation. Dany might end up burning the Iron Throne, if the theory about her accidentally burning King’s Landing actually happens. Dany might willingly melt the Iron Throne and install a new form of government that gives the smallfolk more political influence. Both of these possibilities could symbolize the end of Cersei’s desire for absolute power, even if Cersei and Dany don’t actually meet. I’m not even sure that there will be a moment that outright reveals that Dany is AA/PTWP/SWMTW (even though, IMO, the foreshadowing is way too overwhelming for it not to be her).
Speculating about Dany being the YMBQ is fun for me because it requires delving into her characterization, her parallels with Cersei and canon material in general. On the other hand, speculating about how this would actually happen is, IMO, less interesting (though I still enjoy reading what other people have to say) because it’s hard to accurately predict future plot points with the current information that we have (and I resent how fandom already accepts so many theories as unpublished canon). Dany has too many places to be and too many things to do and it’s not certain that she’ll be in King’s Landing when it burns (though I tend to think she will for the aforementioned reasons), the second dance of dragons can refer to different confrontations, it’s not certain that Dany needs to meet Cersei (or Young Griff or Stannis) to fulfill all these prophecies and it’s not certain that Dany is going to be explicitly revealed as the person who fulfills all these prophecies. We still have two books worth of plot development, so I really don’t think it’s possible to predict how the actual events will unfold. Sorry about not being able to give more definitive answers... I actually ended up making more questions. But that's kind of the point for now.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but what got into asoiaf? Also, did you like Arya and Jonrya from the first read or did that come later? What do you think of Jon as a character? What are your top 10 favourite characters and moments? I aplologise for this avalanche of questions but I just couldn't help wanting to know more of my favourite asoiaf writer. PS: I adore your aesthetic, your blog and writing gives me an otherworldly feeling.
Hey no worries! Ask away <333
but what got you into asoiaf?  I’ve always been into quasi-medieval fantasy, and picked up asoiaf a looooooooong time ago, when I was in middle school. It was so engagingly written that it never really left my brain since? That’s like, ten whole years rent free I’ve been thinking about these characters. What recently spurred me into like, engaging with the fandom/writing/etc was the lack of action in the Jonrya tag, and more specifically, the lack of stories updating that I was interested in, so I decided to make my own 😅
Also, did you like Arya and Jonrya from the first read or did that come later? Re: liking Jon and Arya right off the bat--Okay, so when I first read the series, I was Going Through It IRL, and identified a lot with Jon and his storyline? But I was also so not past the age of “girls going on insane dangerous adventures and being brave despite that” being massively appealing and all the Arya chapters were a satisfyingly more adult version of that genre. I’ll say I liked them both from the get-go, and it’s never really died down since, and I just learned over the years and rereads to appreciate more of the characters. (If I’d been a little older on that first read, I probably would have glommed onto Tyrion instead, and my fandom interactions now would be...vastly different  😂😂😂)
I guess I sort of shipped it from the moment I read ADWD. Like, I was super into Jon&Arya before then--that level of devotion is one of my fictional relationship draws--but ADWD really got me into it. There was just something so compelling about how often they think of each other, and how badly they want to be reunited again, in Arya’s chapters especially. But the whole passage with the Pink Letter just Fucked Me Up emotionally, and suddenly I was like, “They should reunite and kiss”.  Over the years, my enthusiasm for the ship has increased, as my very old slushpile of unpublished fics can attest.
What do you think of Jon as a character? I think he’s an incredibly complex character, which is my favorite type of character! His struggles in the series against his own desires versus his sense of duty, especially framed in the narrative by popular thoughts about bastards, and how that affected his self esteem--he has to be more honorable, more clever, more dedicated just to make up for a facet of his own existence that he didn’t control and can’t change!--is something I just find so compelling. And, of course, his deeply intense love for Arya always gets me like 😍😍😍😍 I don’t have any huge takes on him though--I’m not a very thinky type person and everything I think about characters seems so hard to articulate unless I’m pouring it out into a fic (so I’m sorry if you wanted Takes! This Bitch Empty!)
What are your top 10 favourite characters?
Arya
Jon
Daenerys
Brienne
Tyrion
Missandei
Oberyn
Bran
Asha
Sansa
What are your top 10 favourite moments? Alright, these are in no particular order of preference, just listened as I remembered/googled exactly what books they took place in
1. When Brienne rescues Willow from the Bloody mummers, despite knowing that they’ll kill her for the attempt, AFFC-Brienne VII. No chance and no choice gives me chills every fucking time
2. When Arya kills Dareon and walks off with his boots, AFFC-Cat of the Canals. This moment has implications and speaks to Arya’s inability to let go of herself, even when all that being a Stark means in that moment is the gruesome work of justice, but I’ll be honest--I just like it because of how nonchalant and almost sassy she is when taking the boots afterwards, and how it speaks to her practicality.
3. When Jon reads the Pink Letter and loses his shit, ADWD-Jon XIII.  I want my bride back … I want my bride back … I want my bride back …"I think we had best change the plan," Jon Snow said. Ohohohohhhoo!!! Juuuuust fuck me up GRRM!!
4. When Daenerys has breakfast with Missandei in Mereen and Missandei chides her into eating more, saying Daenerys is very small, ADWD-Daenerys VII. But also every Daenerys & Missandei interaction ever. Every time they speak to each other, you can just tell the level of care they have, and how they see each other as family over time!!!
5. When Arya travels with the Brotherhood Without Banners and gives water to the northern prisoners before watching as Anguy mercy-kills them, ASoS-Arya V. It’s a facet of Arya’s personality that imo, I think is ignored in metas and fics. She considers them her pack, and despite her disappointment in them, and her disgust at their crimes, still gives them water and finds them a quick, merciful death.
6. The dinner with the men of the Nightswatch and the discussion Bran and Robb have afterwards, about riding to the Wall to see Jon, and about whether their family will come back, AGoT-Bran IV This moment, I think, speaks to Robb’s characterization in a way that Catelyn’s POV chapters don’t touch very well. He’s so very young, despite everything, and trying his hardest, and well aware of the dangers his family is in, and how he’s falling short of saving them and there’s nothing he can do about that.
7. Oberyn during Tyrion’s trail by combat, and his arrogance and his rage, ASoS-Tyrion X. His demand that the Mountain say Elia’s name got me tearing up the first time I read it, not realizing what the cost of that justice would be for Oberyn himself. So much of ASoIaF deals with grief, and the consequences of obsessive grief, and this fit into the series so impeccably fucking well
8. Every single thing about Daenerys freeing the slaves at Astapor, ASoS-Daenerys III. One of the things I really didn’t appreciate in the show is how they changed the tone of that scene, very much altering it from Daenerys and her joy that she can do this thing, a balm after the horror she felt seeing the slaves and learning about the brutal training the Unsullied go through, into a moment that was just her being badass and powerful.
"Unsullied!" Dany galloped before them, her silver-gold braid flying behind her, her bell chiming with every stride. "Slay the Good Masters, slay the soldiers, slay every man who wears a tokar or holds a whip, but harm no child under twelve, and strike the chains off every slave you see." She raised the harpy's fingers in the air . . . and then she flung the scourge aside. "Freedom!" she sang out. "Dracarys! Dracarys!" "Dracarys!" they shouted back, the sweetest word she'd ever heard. "Dracarys! Dracarys!" And all around them slavers ran and sobbed and begged and died, and the dusty air was filled with spears and fire. "Dracarys!" they shouted back, the sweetest word she'd ever heard. "Dracarys! Dracarys!" And all around them slavers ran and sobbed and begged and died, and the dusty air was filled with spears and fire."Dracarys!" they shouted back, the sweetest word she'd ever heard. "Dracarys! Dracarys!" And all around them slavers ran and sobbed and begged and died, and the dusty air was filled with spears and fire. [Bold mine] The moment on the show was momentous, but this was-----vastly superior and far more indicative of her character.
9. Catelyn stopping the catspaw from killing Bran, AGoT-Catelyn III. Watching Catelyn emerge from the haze of her grief only to go full fucking ham feral and brutal protecting her child was like *chef’s kiss* There’s just such a cool contrast between her losing her shit talking with Robb a moment before, and then the actual fight, and then her busting out with:  "The circumstances did not allow me to examine it closely, but I can vouch for its edge," Catelyn replied with a dry smile. "Why do you ask?"
10. This exchange:  Alliser Thorne overheard him. "Lord Snow wants to take my place now." He sneered. "I'd have an easier time teaching a wolf to juggle than you will training this aurochs.""I'll take that wager, Ser Alliser," Jon said. "I'd love to see Ghost juggle." AGoT-Jon III. That’s the moment I knew I stanned Jon Snow irreparably, forever.
PS: I adore your aesthetic, your blog and writing gives me an otherworldly feeling.  No u! For real, anon, that’s so fucking sweet of you to say  🥰🥰🥰 Hope I answered everything to your satisfaction, and feel free to come back and chat if the mood strikes ya!

dany for the character meme?
(kit harrington voice) she is my queen
How I feel about this character: My journey with Dany is interesting. When I first read the books, I was far more invested in Cersei and Sansa’s queen narratives and felt ambivalent towards her, even though I vividly remember stanning her breaking free of Viserys when I watched the show. The way George wrote the Dothraki and the way GoT depicted the Mhysa scene made me associate her with white savior-ism through no fault of her own. I saw the writing on the wall when Season 8 was airing and had the feeling she was going to be fucked over, which made me re-evaluate the character and start rooting for her out of spite. The moment Mad Queen Dany hit our screens, the real Dany became a favorite and I re-read her chapters to get a better sense of who she is. I love her deep sense of justice and how she wrestles with her doubts; her journey is packed full of impossible choices and she handles them with a great deal of grace. Meereen SLAPS and I won’t hear anyone say otherwise! We stan our local social justice warlord always.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Dany x any woman, basically. Doreah and Irri are underwritten but I see the potential, and I think it would change the fantasy genre forever if ‘ice and fire’ referred to her and Sansa hooking up before the end of the world instead of Jon Snuh. Her and Asha/Yara would be good for that top notch sky/sea, dragon/kraken contrast. But Daario drinks his respect khaleesi juice so he can stay (for now).
My non-romantic OTP for this character: SER BARRISTAN SELMY. My favorite of her advisors, he’s ride or die and a delightful old man and thus we stan.
My unpopular opinion about this character: Even though I’m sure George will do a bang-up job writing Jonerys and getting us invested in them as a couple, I can’t see it as anything but cliche that the main teen male protagonist and the main teen female protagonist are going to be endgame despite not knowing each other for most of their pagetime. This would never happen between two characters of the same gender and I’m a bit salty! Just a tad. My unpopular opinion among redditors is that I don’t think Dany is dark or even grey and my unpopular opinion among her defense league is that I think dark!Dany is super hot and worth exploring because it’s sexy to me, personally.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish George wouldn’t frame Dany’s bisexuality as ‘something sexy that happens when men aren’t available’ :/
Also, I want her to live!!!!!!! Let anyone else sacrifice themselves, she’s already given sososo much to the cause of bettering humanity that her flying into a horde of ice zombies at the climax wouldn’t hold further meaning for me.
Thanks so much for asking about her, now I’m all fired up lol.
