Since I’ll need to do another playthrough of the game(see below) and am currently playing through something else, I bought the copy of this, so here’s some thoughts on my last Gamefly rental, Nelke and the Legendary Alchemists.
Tumblr media
Because of the micromanaging you need to do to help the town improve, it can feel even more daunting than the Atelier games with time limits, at least to me.
For Nelke to stay as the administrator for the town, she needs to complete several, increasingly difficult tasks set by her father. In the event you fail, you can start over with a multiplier(increased money/faster friendship gain, and you keep the production number of items) based on how far you made it before. This will probably happen to most people, since the later ones get pretty difficult if you don’t really know what you’re doing(especially Task 8, make 3 Million Cole, and Task 9, Get 50,000 Residents). To get the game’s True Ending, you’ll need to do all of the main Tasks and Sub-Tasks in one playthrough.
It’s nice seeing all the characters from Atelier games we didn’t get making their first appearance overseas(though Marie and Viorate had cameos in Cross Edge and Trinity Universe, respectively), as well as ones we did get(like from the Iris and Mana Khemia games, and all main Atelier games from Rorona onward, minus Atelier Annie). Seeing them interact with each other is nice to see, too. It gives some details about their games and adventures, which is good for the ones we never got.
Speaking of Viorate...I still think they should have gone with Violet, instead. You could still use her nickname, Vio, and it doesn’t sound as awkward. It’s not that big a deal, though. ^^;
On the topic of various Atelier protagonists interacting with each other...still waiting and hoping for an ‘Atelier Warriors’ game, Gust/KT. Just saying. =P
Not all of the alchemists/characters who join the town can go with you on Investigations, only Marie, Elie, Lilie, Rorona, Totori, Meruru, Ayesha, Escha and Logy, the Shallies, Sophie, Firis, and Lydie and Suelle. The Iris and Mana Khemia characters at least have the excuse of there being no mana to rely on in Nelke’s world(though they could probably still fight a bit without it), but Judie and Vio just decide not to go, and do things on their own on Holidays. Fighters like Sterk can join to help the town, but you only have four characters who can act as Vanguards for the alchemists: Nelke, her maid Misty, the chief of the town Knoss, and Lotos, the examiner. Also, before the alchemists join you on Investigations, you need to do one event of theirs on a Holiday where they ask to help you out, which, I think should happen automatically, since it’d give you just a little bit more time for everything else.
Town facilities can be upgraded to improve their productivity, and have a fairy assigned to help out there. Fairies can only help if an actual character, instead of the generic “Hired Help” units, is assigned there, as well, which is kind of annoying, since I’m not sure why that’s the case. Another minor annoyance is that if Hired Help is running a store, you can’t actually pick what you want them to sell(I think it defaults to Tauns or something similar depending on the type of store, or maybe something random), and they can’t do anything if assigned to an Atelier. I can kind of excuse them not being able to work at Ateliers, since they most likely aren’t alchemists, but there’s really no reason you can’t pick what you want them to sell at shops.
All of the characters from the other Atelier games are said come from another world than Nelke’s, but I’m not exactly sure when they came from. Everyone has their appearance from their debut game, but seem have been brought in either after the events of those games or after their series of games(in the case of the ones with several games, like Arland, minus Lulua, Dusk and Mysterious).
Some tips for the game if you need them.
Next game being sent is: Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Talking about Totori
Random little rant about the game; Read More just to keep things small, especially since it’s not writing related!
I have to admit, Atelier Totori is not nearly as enjoyable as Rorona; the timing for quests is... interesting, I guess, a little more open-ended, which doesn’t suit my goal-oriented gaming. Three years to reach a high adventurer rank -with no notice in the beginning on what the levels actually are- is just a little vague. I don’t see a point to keeping characters in the party (are there friendship levels I’m not seeing somewhere?), and there’s a huge jump in battle difficulty, even in the three beginning levels. Also, friendship requests are a pain, because you have to have the items ahead of time, instead of letting you make it right then if you didn’t have it. (Or maybe I’ve just been lucky and always had the item. I don’t know. No explanation really, and I read the tutorial)
But some positives! I adore the characters; Totori is adorable, her sister Ceci has actual reasons to be against Totori’s adventuring plans, even if she’s a little overprotective. Gino is just amazing, although I kicked him out of the party for Mimi, who is remarkably similar to Cordelia from Atelier Rorona. Maybe that’s why they fight with each other; they’re too similar, and it was a great intro to the both of them. There’s a lot more items to use in synthesis, and I got recipes for some things faster than I did in the Rorona game (although the books are expensive and lots of them are bought, not found unfortunately).
But I think the thing I love the most is that they reference the original game. Now, having played Rorona recently, it was just a delight to go back to Arland and see the town again. I went to get my adventurers license there, and was just so happy to walk Artisan’s Way, and go visit the cafe, the weapon and sundries shops... and remeet characters I had loved in the other game. Iksel is still running the cafe, Tiffani (sp?) still has all her admirers, Hagel... well, he’s Hagel, and that was something. Seeing the palace turned adventurers guild was just sweet, and although I couldn’t go into the hallway I used to report to Sterk in, I did meet Esty’s shy little sister, who Rorona unintentionally doomed to her fate of working the reception desk. Characters mention my teacher, and her teacher, and talk about each other with the same kind of relationships we left them in, with the added growth of a few years. It’s just a nice continuation, with a new heroine, as time goes by and the world keeps moving forward. (Although something has happened to Rorona in the last few years, and just... how did you end up literally fishing her up, and why did that actually lead to her recruitment into my party?)
Also, my boy Sterk is still around, and I love him, so I honestly can’t complain because most of my adventuring is with the active hope that I will find him again. If I could have a party that is just Totori, Rorona, and Sterk, I’ll be happy!
It’ll just be like Rorona Overtime all over again!

Atelier Lulua (PS4) - Part 18 | Flare Let's Play:
youtube
We learn today that Lulua isn't Rorona's biological daughter but one Rorona adopted (predicting after the events of Atelier Meruru). Alongside this, the process of getting Totori's item made was a fishy, slimy scenario, the liquor too being horrid. Rorona's Philosopher Pie however turned out incredibly heart warming. That and more in this video.
This is Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland, an alchemy-adventure rpg made by GUST and published by Koei Tecmo Europe. We play as Lulua, daughter on Rorona and lover of curry. One day, Lulua along with her childhood friend Eva wonders back from Fellsgalaxen when Lulua discovered a mysterious book that only she could read, from then on. Her alchemy adventure truely began.
"Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland invites players to assume the role of Elmerulia “Lulua” Fryxel, a young aspiring alchemist training under former student turned mentor, Piana. Lulua studies diligently to fulfil her dream of becoming a great alchemist just like her mother, Rorolina Frixell; but during her training Lulua discovers a mysterious Codex, awakening an ancient power within her that enables Lulua to decrypt but a single page – with many more riddles for her to unravel."

Hopefully, Esty and Filly will have their last names changed back to their originals, instead of the last names they were given because somebody at NISA was a big fan of Phillip DeFranco and/or wanted to make an STD joke.

I just hope they keep it close to the arland formula and not the kind of stuff sophie had going on… I didnt play more than sophie in that trilogy but it wasnt promising to say the least ><;  especially not after dusk was so good
Despite the fact that I enjoyed the Mysterious series in its own right, I hope so too because not only do I prefer them, Arland systems belong in an Arland game. I mean it would feel strange if it was totally different from the other Arland entries, right?
From the info it seems like it’ll use an adventuring system like Totori’s  and an alchemy system that expands on the Arland one? Both good things. What worries me is that it says that for the battle system it’ll build upon the Mysterious series ... out of every Atelier I’ve played, Mysterious entries had my least favourite combat systems and I avoided combat as much as possible.
Arland combat however (from vanilla Totori on) I love a lot so I was hoping it would be more like that. Or like Escha & Logy’s, as I liked that one too. (Shallie not as much due to the Burst system but Ayesha’s was cool too. Especially the placement influence, I would love for that to return and be expanded upon)

Koei Tecmo has announced that they are bringing Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland to North America and Europe for PlayStation 4, Switch and PC via Steam this coming Spring 2019. The game is the fourth in the Atelier Arland series and features the daughter of Rorona as the main character.
You can check out more information and screenshots from the game’s official website (NA, EU, JP) and via a Japanese press release below. Information from the press release is provided by Gematsu.
Story
Atelier Rorona marked the beginning of the Arland series. And now, following the events of Atelier Totori and Atelier Meruru, comes an all new story. The latest title is set in a world proceeding the story of Atelier Meruru. The title depicts how characters and locations have changed over time. Set in a world both nostalgic and new, the curtain lifts on another adventure for the alchemists.
Characters
Elmerulia Fryxell (Lulua)
  Occupation: Alchemist
An impulsive, yet devoted girl.
Rorona, that’s the name of my beloved mother.
She wants to become an alchemist like Rorona, and works hard under a certain teacher, but does not have outstanding talent. But one day, an opportunity arises for her.
Lulua is an energetic girl whose body tends to move before thinking and who looks at everything in a positive light. She seems to live with her teacher in a place away from Rorona.
Eva Armster
Occupation: Nursery School Assistant
A dear childhood friend.
A girl who is always at Lulua’s side, watching over her like a guardian angel.
Although she has a quiet personality, Eva is of strong character. She does not show weakness and is very dependable, but in front of Lulua and others she trusts she reveals a side that can easily succumb to loneliness.
Systems
Synthesis, exploration, and battle…
The system that defines the “Atelier”series. While maintaining a system that fans of the “Arland” series will be familiar with at its core, this title also continues to evolve the system.
In addition, the title extracts the essence of the system, which has continued to be cultivated, all the way up from the series’ roots to its latest numbered title. A unique melding of such elements makes possible an entirely new gaming experience.
—A “book,” which is also used in the game’s logo. Abstract words are spread across its pages. What is the identity of this mysterious book?
Exploration and synthesis have also been upgraded. Places and items familiar to Arland series players will appear in great numbers. The game uses an Atelier Totori-like discovery system. As for other Arland series systems, there are several being used as a base and deepened.
The battle system and the like introduce new systems based on the Mysterious series. Even those that have enjoyed the recent Atelier games and have never played the Arland series will be able to enjoy this game. Which characters can you take along on your adventure? Characters that will bring joy to fans of the Arland series may appear.
We hope you look forward to new information regarding this game as it becomes available!
Character Designer
Mel Kishida, the character designer of the Arland series, reprises his role for Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland. Starting with Lulua, Kishida has designed new characters, and even existing characters from the Arland series will be depicted for the “continuation of the story.”
