So. What's up with the duplicate statues in Eden?
If you've played Sky: Children of the Light and gone through The Ascent, you may have noticed these statues:
Tumblr media
And you'll know that the Vault has the same exact statues:
Tumblr media
Now the question we're asking here is why.
Of course, I have a theory in regards to it that ties into a couple of other theories, but it's gonna be long and probably a little complicated, so buckle up.
TL;DR will be at the bottom of the post for a simpler(and less all over the place) explanation!
Now, I'm going to start at the beginning with something that may seem completely unrelated:
Take a look at the top of this broken building in the Battlefield.
Tumblr media
Does it look familiar? It should.
It looks like the vault masks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's odd though, isn't it? The Vault Elder is, well, the Vault Elder. They belong in the Vault.
To that I say: what if they weren't always there?
What if that building used to be their temple?
Almost every other Elder has their own building that serves as their temple and little else; why would the Vault Elder be any different? They're certainly just as important as every other Elder, so why would they be singled out?
Some more evidence for the broken building being an Elder's temple?
Look here, in The Seed's spirit memory:
Tumblr media
The spirit was a medic that treated and aided soldiers on the battlefield, and this displays them in a Medic's tent. Where? In the broken building.
Other than it being the arguably safest structure aside from the Vault, there's...no real reason for it to be here of all places. They could have had it anywhere else; this is in the thick of the fighting, after all, the entire map is called the Battlefield for a reason. But there's a reason it was here.
Why?
Well, the Elder's temples are sacred. They're holy places, not to be trifled with, even in the midst of a war, they're like churches. And what was guaranteed if you took shelter in a church?
Sanctuary.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, this doesn't guarantee its outside will be particularly safe from conflict, especially toward the end of the war. Survival began to matter more than walls, I suspect, and it's clear from the Lookout Scout's memory sequence that even then, this place was broken down; potentially from Dark Dragons, potentially from the Ancestors. Unfortunately, we currently have no way of knowing for sure.
On the topic of placements and symbolism in the Battlefield map, though: there's also all of this imagery of the King leading up to the Wasteland Elder's temple.
Tumblr media
Let me suggest to you the following as an answer to why:
Eden was not always the primary residence of the King.
Before you grab your torches and pitchforks, hear me out. The Eden Castle was not always there, and this is explicitly shown in the Aurora concert during Warrior, but also the fourth quest in Season of Passage:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No castle.
Now, what does this mean for the King? Well, logically they should have them residing in the otherwise safest place in the Kingdom—like, perhaps, a Vault.
Now we're getting somewhere.
Let's go back to the statues.
Many theorize that they're graves, due to the fact that there's one in each temple and when you sit, you're taken to the respective cutscenes that feature the Elders in their limbos. I disagree.
I think they were communication lines. Every Elder will need to contact one another at some point, and other than the Windpaths, there's really no shortcuts through the realms; thus, the statues function as telephones in a home network, if you will. If one person picks up the line while others are having a conversation, they can listen in as well.
Who needs to have a way to contact every single Elder?
Tumblr media
The King.
A ruler needs to be able to conveniently contact the others that help them run a kingdom, especially at a moment's notice, and phones don't exactly exist in the Kingdom. Thusly following the path of logic here, wherever the King is, there should be each statue for each corresponding Elder.
Once the castle became the primary residence of the King, now that the Vault Elder was no longer close by, there was a statue added to the arrangement; this also explains why it's just sat in the middle of them instead of up with the rest.
There is one other thing, though.
What's up with the Wasteland Elder?
After all, if the Vault was the primary residence of the King, and the statues support that, then why and how does the Wasteland Elder come to inhabit that building?
I have a few thoughts on that too.
Let's take a look at the Wasteland Elder, for starters.
Tumblr media
They look like a soldier. Which is no surprise, really, seeing as they were in charge of what is now the Wasteland, and the war that seems to have primarily taken place there.
I have another thought though.
The King needs a guard, or more accurately, the Prince does. Sure, there is plenty of power when you are the King, but before that they was a Prince, and there are always precautions that should be taken with the future ruler of your Kingdom.
From what little we see of their character, the Wasteland Elder is protective. Defensive. Willing to do anything to safeguard what lay beyond that gate. They had to learn from somewhere. That instinct has to come from somewhere, because they clearly have worked themselves to the point of absolute exhaustion in their efforts to safeguard that gate.
To this, I ask you: what better protection is there for a Prince than a Star?
Of course, once the Prince becomes a King, and Eden is more than adequate as a safe spot for them, this Star needs to be put somewhere else.
Tumblr media
And the Wasteland still needs a protector. After all, the Dark Dragons at this point must be becoming a problem, and Darkstone production is likely growing larger and larger by the day; the people need someone to keep them safe and reassure them that all will be okay.
Who better than a Star that already knows everything about protection and defense? Who has the necessary experience? Who has likely had to manage other guards that helped protect the Prince?
Tumblr media
TL;DR: Before the fall of the kingdom, while the King was still a Prince, before the Castle was built the Prince resided in the Vault. And before the conflict in the Wasteland, the Vault Elder's temple was the broken building we now see in the Battlefield. This explains both the King imagery leading up to (what is now)the Wasteland Temple(which also doubles as the entrance to the Vault) and the symbol atop the broken building that resembles the Vault masks.
During the period of time before the Prince became the King, the Wasteland Elder was assigned as their protector, explaining their intense need to defend the Vault 'til their last breath. Afterward, once the Prince becomes King, they are reassigned as the Guardian of the Wasteland, charged with overseeing its people and the Darkstone production taking place there.
Because of the fact that the King resided in the Vault and the Eden Castle, there are versions of each Elder's statue in both places due to them potentially being communication lines instead of graves. Or, at least, they used to be communication lines and were turned into graves for the Fallen Stars after the Fall of the Kingdom. This also explains why each statue takes us to that specific Elder's limbo space; they still, technically, function for their intended purpose.
Tumblr media
Of course, this is all just one huge theory made up of a bunch of smaller theories and doesn't have the greatest evidence but. Alas! I am prone to overthinking details in the Funny Light Game.

sun u should explain the ghost band lore bc i’m interested but no nothing about them
oki oki so ani this might take a while bc i went crazy explaining and it might be too long so uhm find the tl;dr at the end 😭
i swooned when i saw u ask this bc!!! mwah mwah <333 idk it made me so giddy teehee <33 also! this is what i know so far so there might be lapses in my explanation hhh
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the band ghost or ghost (or ‘ghost bc’)
- they are are theatrical rock band mostly known for their satirical approach to organized religion (roman catholicism); they have a parody of the ministry (from the papacy down to the clergymen [dubbed as brothers/sisters of sins]). there are criticism that they are satanic and, well, that is their lore.
the current singer is called papa emeritus iv
- papa iv is endearingly called popia because before being papa, he was known as cardinal copia. he succeeded the previous three papa emeritus (primo, secondo, terzo) after the three have been killed. he also inherited the ghouls (specifically terzo’s ghouls).
- primo, secondo, terzo, copia are all acted by the same guy (tobias forge)! the lore is that they’re all brothers, fathered by papa nihil, but that copia wasn’t recognized as his son until later on when the three papas were killed. the ones who organized the deaths of the previous papas is sister imperator, copia’s mom.
- the papas, in order: primo, secondo, terzo, copia (cardinal), copia (papa)
Tumblr media
nameless ghouls
- they are the people that tobias forge (papa) hires to play live! theyre not a concrete band since these instrumentalists could be/had been replaceable :((
- when ghost debuted, there were only four ghouls: fire, water, earth, quintessence. these titles are reflections of the instruments they play! fire (lead guitar). water (bass guitar). earth (drums). quintessence (rhythm guitar). later a keyboard instrumentalist was added and they were dubbed as the air ghoul.
- as the band grew more popular and more instrumentalists came and went, the fans began naming them. at the top of my head; notable old members include: alpha (fire). omega (quintessence). mist (water). ifrit (fire). zephyr (air).
- i think it was in 2019 when the ghouls were established and no one left (until, that is, june 2023). they were: dewdrop (fire; previously water so he replaced ifrit as lead guitarist). rain (water; bass guitar). aether (quintessence; rhythm guitar). mountain (earth; drums). swiss (multi ghoul - means he is a backup vocals, acoustic guitarist, tambourine). cumulus (air; keyboard and backup vocals). cirrus (air - keyboard and keystar). sunshine (multi; backup vocals).
- nameless ghouls as of july 2023: dewdrop (fire). rain (water). phantom (quintessence - he replaced aether). mountain (earth). swiss (multi). cumulus (air). cirrus (air). aurora (multi - she replaced sunshine).
- fave: nameless ghouls aren’t all just men!! cirrus, cumulus, sunshine, and aurora are ghoulettes
- i finally know who is who when they don’t have their instruments 😭
- they all wear the same thing for anonymity, although fans know who they are unmasked!
other fun info
- a ghost concert is called ‘ritual’
- they have this episodes (??) of more lore called ‘chapters’
- there are talks that copia will be replaced by a new papa but copia’s goodbye had been too quiet and peaceful so fans speculate that tobias forge is gonna do smthn else?
- papa nihil plays the saxophone!
Tumblr media
tl;dr - tobias forge is a huge fucking nerd who made a whole satanic ministry and band for flare!

rereading alkaid's introduction in the main story is absolutely hilarious once you go in with the knowledge that alkaid absolutely fell head over heels in love with mc while observing the aurora borealis together, and that finding out she was attending st. shelter was part of his reason for accepting his invitation there.
so a tl;dr of what we learned in his white day/chrono theater event. first, his conversation with zaph.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then his conversation with his mother.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then after all of this, we have his reunion with mc during the main story. i'm absolutely losing my mind at this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the fact that every single option you're given involves mc fucking around with him and pretending not to remember. oh my god.

I was thinking about built in cameras for the Mechs and here’s what I came up with:
I think there’s only three Mechs that it makes sense to consider (not including Aurora because she is a ship); Brian, Ivy, and Tim.
Brian has mechanical eyes, which could function similarly to a camera, and he has a mechanical brain, so his brain can store the photos, like modern cameras and computers do.
Ivy has organic eyes and a mechanical brain. At first I thought this might pose an issue, but she already has functional interfacing between her eyes and brain that allow her to see in the first place, so I don’t think there would be one. She could take pictures and store them (she has plenty of memory!), her eyes are just like yours and mine, so she would be more limited in the quality of her photos. Although I think this means that if she has floaters or visual snow or the like, those would appear in her photos (when she’s experiencing them). If that were the case, she could take photos of hallucinations, which would be interesting. Also be way easier to tell if she needs glasses. And she wouldn’t have the issue you get when taking a photo at 1x zoom from your perspective, but it looks zoomed out a bit.
Tim has mechanical eyes and an organic brain, which does pose an issue. He also obviously has functional interfacing between the two, but he doesn’t have the storage like Ivy and Brian. His eyes could well function like cameras, and there’s no reason he shouldn’t be able to just take a photo by thought, since his brain already controls his eyes. So I propose that Tim has a slot for a memory card, to store his photos. But I don’t think he can look back at the photos without removing the card and looking through them on a computer, since his brain, while technically a computer, is made of meat and does not function like a mechanical computer. So it’s like taking photos with film; well except he can look at them on the computer, but the point is that in the moment he can’t look back and see if the photo is good or if he needs to try again.
Tl;dr: Brian could function like fancy a modern digital camera, Ivy like a digital camera with limited zoom and focus, and Tim like a fancy (as in has great zoom, focus, etc) film camera.
On a related note, I don’t like the idea of someone being able to take photos or video of me without my knowledge, especially blantently, right in front of me. Make each of them have a shutter noise and a small red light or something, just so others know.

there's a tl;dr at the end if you're a coward who's too scared to read my glorious essay
wassup my name is destruktow i got in an argument with tumblr user flishthedragon (over discord) on the topic of aurora being an isekai (we were watching anime (they made me watch serial experiment lain (it was decent but i am too stupid for it)) and i brought up isekai) and i am convinced you bastards in the notes of when they posted my ramblings have no clue what an isekai is because an isekai is not defined by said isekai guy previously existing in the "real" world (despite that making up the majority of isekai stories) and let me tell you that i Have Not read past like the big robot thing (despite tumblr user flishthedragon being very adamant that i do so) so i have no clue if this still holds up to canon but as of right now we have no confirmation as to where jeffrey (canon name kendal i think but i call him jeffrey due to him looking like a jeffrey) originated from outside of "yeah jeffrey is like. this dude's empty body becoming sentient" which is bullshit so even by the bad definition everyone in the notes was pushing it's still not confirmed to not be an isekai and
*i pause to take a breath. as i breathe, you glance at my shirt. it has an image of popular comic strip character Garfield along with his adopted sibling/punching bag Odie and sugar daddy Jon Arbuckle. you appreciate said shirt*
also is space jam an isekai? it's absolutely an isekai dude lmao i love space jam that movie's great
okay back on topic so isekai originates from ancient japanese literature such as the story of Urashima Tarō, fisherman guy who saved a turtle and got to go to fishland for a week (my apologies to the urashima tarō fans out there my only exposure to this man is that they put him in battle cats and that was pretty cool, he's a decent black/angel tank that manages to not be outclassed by ramen and nono) and holy shit look at that you don't have to die to be isekai (no one was saying this but at least two of you were thinking it don't lie) and while reincarnation stories are not inherently isekai they can be viewed as isekai stories in certain contexts and those stay in the same world that's crazy
omniscient reader is also an isekai btw (if you finish it it's actually not but if you don't read like 500 chapters you can't prove me wrong and if you do i get someone to talk to about omniscient reader)
so obviously jeffrey exists (was summoned (technically)) for the purposes of getting vaush (that's not his name but it sounds like vaush and i used to be a vaush fan so we're going with it)'s soul back (has a goal given to him by a god) and he gets a companion (whether she is hot or not may depend on your taste and/or sexuality. me personally she is not hot) and he has big fucked up powers (real) BUT he keeps the memories of the previous host! wow! but screw you that's also an isekai thing i'm reading trash of the count's family and it does that (you suck stop typing stop trying to disprove me it won't work) and his existence prior, as i have mentioned, is disputable (he may or may not have existed. retaining your memories from previous life is not necessary) and his journey is fucking identical to various other isekai franchises you learn how shit works alongside him that's how isekai works you doubters in the notes
tl;dr: you can't prove it's not an isekai (author please do not confirm/deny it becomes much less funny if you do so) and it's infinitely easier to think of it as a typical isekai with all the isekai tropes so gg ez i win

you know what, i just got an inspo, lol. another drabble of rora todd, here we go.
it's how reader and jason came up with their baby girl aurora todd's name.
but wait, that's not her full name.
baby daughter's full name is aurora nastiti sorcha todd.
first of all, baby's first name: aurora.
contrary to what some of people belief (including some of their family members), their baby's first name is not inspired by princess aurora. it's actually because jason and reader were in iceland when they found out she's one and half months along. so, they went to see aurora borealis. they're in awe of course, nothing like anything they've ever seen. after observing aurora borealis, they went back to their hotel in the city. there, nausea hit her but not only that she's also having nosebleeds. jason knew how to take care of it so tl;dr both of them handled it well. but they—especially she, let's be real—started to get suspicious when the next day she's still nauseous. she sent him to nearest drugstore to get pregnancy test. jason bought her five different brands. and her intuition was right. they're expecting a baby—jason's like so happy he was crying. that night when they went to sleep, she said sleepily to jason that if the baby is a girl they should name her aurora.
second, baby's first middle name: nastiti.
it's when they had found out the baby's indeed a girl—mamabear's five months along when they decided to find out. it's actually a dedication to mamabear's heritage. it's of javanese origin. nastiti (in javanese script: ꦤꦱ꧀ꦠꦶꦠꦶ) is feminine given name which means "a careful girl/person". she thought she was rather a clumsy girl when she grew up so she wanted her daughter to be better than her.
third, baby's second middle name: sorcha.
this one's jason's contribution. a feminine given name, sorcha is of gaelic origin which means "radiant" or "brightness". and jason chose it because even though the baby hadn't been born yet, she's already a shining and beaming star of his life. he came up with it after feeling her first kick on her mom's stomach.
last, baby's last name: todd.
well, this one's pretty self explanatory, isn't it. that's baby daughter's papabear's surname.
so yeah. i imagine that's how reader and jason came up with rora's full name.

I've been trying to figure out just who Aurora is, or rather why she is the way she is and why she fights the Urge the way she does.
I think she was always going to be a resist Durge, both bc of the way I make characters, but also bc of my own issues with intrusive thoughts. Like it have gotten so bad at times that it have brought on borderline suicidal thoughts for me, and playing a resist Durge has been strangely cathartic while still having fun with it bc it's taken to such silly extremes (and it's fun to be unhinged about shit sometimes). To fight the demons in your mind with everything you've got, and fucking win? Because at the very core of you there's a good person? That's the real power fantasy right there.
The basic idea is that getting non-consensual brain surgery and tadpoled caused a sort of factory reset in her brain, reverting her back to a version of herself similar to the time before the Urge.
I need to write a post about her background and all, but tl;dr: she grew up in a small, but close knit community in the poorer areas of Baldur's Gate, consisting mostly of other dwarves. So much of her upbringing was about the love and joy forged in human? dwarven? connections, and in looking out for one another. Her adoptive mother was also of the altruistic sort, which might be where some of Aurora's more self sacrificing tendencies stem from.
It's a funny little case of nature vs nurture. On one hand she's a child of Bhaal, his literal flesh and blood, with death and murder at the very core of her being. On the other there's years and years of learned empathy and kindness, genuinely felt and displayed, and it has wrapped itself so tightly around that bloodstained core that it can't simply be cut away.
She've also been fighting the Urge for a long time, I think, since before she was an adult. This has no real base in canon, but I love the idea of it starting small when she's a little kid, and her having to learn to live with it, to suppress it the best she can. That she would work so hard to be so good, in opposition to the depravity boiling hot in the back of her mind, which is partly why she's so good at resisting later on; it's second nature to her, as natural as breathing.
When she wakes up on that beach it's just her again, a ghost of her former self, but it's her nonetheless. The Urge is there too, trapped among the threads of her former life once again, and held in check for just a little bit longer.
This feels like a lot of words saying a whole lot of nothing, like there's about 19 layers of further explanation and nuance that naturally connects to all of this but is hard to explain simply. Reading through all of this feels so fucking cringe, but I'm trying to be sincere here so I'm just pushing through it. It doesn't have to be good, it just have to make me feel good (and a little insane).
Kinda unrelated, but it's also important to me that Aurora just has all the weird little tics, like doing the etch-a-sketch head shake, loudly telling her Urges to shut up, or doing a bunch of weird fidgeting when she's especially stressed out. And then ofc doing her very best to hide or mask that when other people are around and can see/hear her. Baby girl I'm giving you so much of my mental baggage, I'm so sorry and I love you.
