Modern AU Bakuli and Julian living in a cute little houseboat that travels around the rivers of Europe. It's covered in all kinds of plants that Bakuli cares for and a garden she grows vegetables and herbs in. Julian runs a little clinic from the boat and makes house calls wherever they end up staying longer than a few days. Cozy nights snuggled up together under blankets on the deck, staring up at the stars. Julian's warbly singing floating through the air. The scrumptious scent of Bakuli's homecooked meals floating out the windows. (Also Julian has 100% fallen out of the boat multiple times, and Bakuli usually ends up following right after haha).

EUH- Reworked

So I'm editing a version of End Up Here to include my fan apprentice, Bakuli. This is just a Table of Contents for any of those excerpts I decide to post here on Tumblr. Thus far, there is only one, but that might change.

5 and 29 for the MC ask game? ^^

Thank you so much for your question!!!!! And thanks for your patience! Sorry it took me so long to get to this one! Hope you are doing well :)

5. What changes to canon/headcanons have you made in relation to them? What & why?

Great question. Route spoilers! Just in case! In terms of changes to canon, I tried to not change too much, but I did have to change the nature of Julian and Lucio's relationship, and Julian and the Apprentice's relationship, pre-Plague in order for it to fit with the narrative I gave Bakuli. Julian and Bakuli pursue a romantic relationship after Bakuli and Asra break-up. During this time, they also meet up with Lucio. Julian knows him already after having amputated his arm a number of years ago. The two of them were flirtatious at the time, but nothing came of it. Now, Lucio, Julian, and Bakuli pursue a secret, romantic relationship that disintegrates when Bakuli dies.

However, this romance is rekindled when Bakuli returns and the three of them have to prove Julian's innocence/solve Lucio's murder. That's probably the biggest change I've had to make.

29. What are their values? How do those intersect with their morals & effect their actions?

Bakuli is very family/friend oriented. They come first before anything else. She's loyal and devoted. She also tries very hard to be a good person. She really struggles to grapple with her relationship with Lucio for a long time. He's done so many bad things, but she feels she can see the good in him. But it's hard for her to come to terms with often, and she goes through periods of time where she really questions herself and her values. Lots of cognitive dissonance when it comes to him, but overtime, she learns to navigate their complicated relationship.

Apprenticember- Day 24

Does your mc like parties, festivals, and masquerades? What do they do at them?

She does! Bakuli loves to celebrate. She's shy and introverted, but when it comes to partying with people she loves, she's all in! At masquerades, ya gurl is DANCING. She's getting down and dirty with Lucio and Julian. She's also probably several glasses of champagne in and having a blast. She very much enjoys partying with Nadia and her siblings too. All around, she can find a way to have fun no matter what.

Apprenticember- Day 8

Now let’s give their familiar the spotlight! Tell us all about them!

Bakuli's familiar is Sagara, a mimic octopus! I do plan to draw her at some point, but it probably won't be until after my semester is over. I have to also give another shoutout to @ghoulfriendfangs for hosting this event. I love seeing everyone's apprentices and it gives me something to look forward to every day for this last month of the year :)

Bakuli found a baby Sagara hidden in a shell that had washed ashore in Prakra. Their connection was instant and Sagara has been with her ever since. Most often, Sagara swims the harbors of Vesuvia. She has a little enchanted den in the shop that has a portal allowing her to travel out to sea and back when she wants to. Sagara loves collecting shiny objects and decorating the front of her den with them. Most of the decorations are pieces of crystals that Asra has gifted her, broken glass, and some of Lucio's jewelry that she has managed to pilfer. The shell Bakuli found her in also decorates the little fence that surrounds her cave.

When Sagara wants to travel with Bakuli, Bakuli uses some of her water magic to create a little bubble that Sagara can float around in. Sagara is quite shy, intelligent, curious, and rather mischievous. She likes to shoot jets of water from her siphon at Julian and Lucio when they pass by (mostly teasingly, but sometimes out of irritation, haha). She has also tried to steal pieces of Lucio's arm attachments because she's enamored with them. Her impressions of other ocean dwelling creatures are spot on. She has even managed to mimic Faust (whom she adores)! Sagara likes to occasionally reach a tentacle out of the water and give Faust some loving snoot boops.

Sagara gets along well with Malak, as the two of them share a love for collecting shimmery items. Malak will even bring Sagara little decorations for her garden! Sagara is wary, however, of Mercedes and Melchior, and Camio. They're all a bit too energetic for her.

Apprenticember- Day 7

Second week! Let’s go back to their physical description, but go even deeper! Do they have tattoos, piercings, scars, etc? What sort of clothes do they like?

Tattoos

Bakuli has mehndi-like tattoos on her hands and feet. They are celestial in design. Something like the picture below, but a bit more filled out and with a moon and stars. Unlike traditional mehndi, Bakuli's tattoos are permanent. They also glow lavender when she uses her magic. Fun fact: when she, Julian, and Lucio have an official partnership-ceremony/wedding, she has their names hidden on each hand (Lucio on the left, Julian on the right). She additionally has a large backpiece tattoo of elements of the major arcana. Her sister, Bindi, is the one that designed and gave her all her tattoos :)

Piercings and Scars

Bakuli has a number of piercings. She got them young. Lots in her ears, a septum piercing (usually a simple gold one like the one below, but Lucio loves to buy her various ones with sparkling jewels). She and Julian definitely went to go get nipple piercings together. While Lucio doesn't have any piercings, he's certainly appreciative of the ones his partners do have...

Bakuli has a couple of small scars and burn marks from various magical mishaps. Nothing major though.

Clothing Style

Bakuli wears a lot of flowy dresses, comfortable leotards, and high-waisted pants paired with billowy blouses. She sticks to darker colors, but when she wants a flash of something brighter, she usually picks lavender/lilac, pale pink, or emerald green. Below is an example of a favorite style of dress of hers (dress found on corsetstory)

Apprenticember- Day 4

What about the courtiers? Have they met them? What do they think of them?

Bakuli crosses paths with the courtiers often as a fellow member of the court. Pre-plague, she works with Julian and the other physicians on searching for a cure.

Valdemar- Was one of her direct bosses during the plague era. Always gave her the shivers. She found them fascinating, however, and wanted to learn more about them. Sadly, the distance between them personality-wise was too great for her to ever gain any information about the enigmatic Quaestor. Though Bakuli has a slight fascination with macabre things such as animal skulls and bones, her interest lies purely in curiosity shops and museums, while Valdemar has much more warm blooded interests.

Vulgora- Interacted with Vulgora the least. Their personalities just didn't mesh. Bakuli is fairly quiet and not aggressive.

Volta- Bakuli and Volta have always been kind to one another. Bakuli likes to bake treats for her and deliver them whenever she has extra. They don't talk much, but of all the courtiers, she likes Volta the most.

Vlastomil- As a fan of ocean dwelling creatures, Bakuli has plenty to discuss with Valdemar when it comes to ocean dwelling worms and what not. That's about the extent of their relationship. But Bakuli will never turn down an opportunity to view any of Vlastomil's prized specimens. She is an animal lover, of all kinds.

Valerius- He drives her up the fucking wall. But there's something a bit alluring about him, too. In an alternate timeline, Bakuli could conceivably have an enemies to lovers type of relationship. Otherwise, the hate sex would be divine.

What parts of Vesuvia is your mc most likely to be at?

Probably the market! Bakuli loves to shop for produce, spices, herbs, magical ingredients, and what not! And when she's not there, she's either haunting Julian at his clinic, running her shop, or going for walks along the canal with Lucio.

Apprenticember- Day 22

What does your mc do to show their love?

Lots of quality time. Bakuli often shows her love to friends, family, partners by spending time with them, doing activities together (whether they are adventurous things or as mundane as going to the market/organizing their finances together), and having heart-to-hearts. She's big on asking about people's days, learning and knowing people she loves.

She also does acts of service! Anything to help out those she cares about <3

Apprenticember- Day 12

What does their home look like? Their room?

Bakuli's room at the shop is filled with lots of natural light. She has a window by her bed that she keeps open most hours of the day. Her walls and bedding are light purple. Lots of fluffy pillows and blankets, candles and curtains. She's all about comfort and likes her space feeling safe and cozy. She decorates with shells she finds at the beach, some easy to take care of plants in the windowsill, and lots of trinkets from places she's traveled.

When she eventually owns a home, it has Hobbit vibes. Lots of wood, lots of shades of green, a big kitchen. Round windows and doors. It's a great place to raise her little family and is filled with comfort, peace, and joy.

Apprenticember- Day 17

Do they have any family, living or non living? List their family tree!

Bakuli has a HUGE family! In fact, here is her family tree. It doesn't include all of her cousins because that would just have been too cluttered looking, haha.

She is closest to her mother's side of the family, for sure. Here's a drawing I did of Bakuli's parents:

Below, I have some headcanons! I have all of this in another post, but I'll put it all here, too :)

Bakuli is the eldest of her siblings, with Beren being second, Bindi third, and Bastian fourth.

Bastian is AMAB, non-binary. Uses they/them/he/him. Bastian retained their last name as Björnson because it felt most comfortable to them.

Beren and Bastian travel the world doing animal/environmental conservation work. Beren specializes in botany and Bastian in marine biology.

Bindi is an up and coming artist in Prakra. She works mostly with rangoli and dabbles in stunning mehndi and tattoos.

Bakuli’s mother, Bhakti, is the second eldest of her sisters. First eldest is Asha, who was older by a good fifteen years. The third sister is Champa and youngest is Divya.

Asha passed away when Bhakti was young due to pneumonia, so Bhakti is now the matriarch of the family. She travels the world with her sister Divya, where they offer their magical medical services (and eat lots of yummy food).

Champa is an event planner in Prakra and hosts some of the cities most grand parties.

Priya Divekar, Bakuli’s grandmother, comes from a long line of magicians and lamp-makers (her last name is occupational). She inherited the magic shop from her mother and passed it on to Asha. Bhakti then came to run the magic shop when Asha passed away.

Karthik met Priya on a ship set for Vesuvia. They fell in love immediately. Karthik served the palace as a guard up until he retired.

Björn came from a small tribe similar to Lucio’s, not terribly far away. Life was difficult in the cold of the South. He became bitter and hardened over years of fighting in his tribe’s army starting at a young age.

Jonas, Björn’s younger brother, left home as soon as he turned seventeen and hasn’t been seen since. Björn is also bitter about this. He remained behind to care for his aging parents, while his brother is out exploring the world.

Jürgen was a harsh warrior and traveling merchant. Björn hardly saw his father and came to resent him in his later years. His father eventually succumbed to some strange illness that was ravaging the land’s of the South.

Bathilda was always kind, but meek and quiet. Her marriage to Jürgen was arranged. She did not always stand up for Björn when his father was unkind. But she would try to make up for it with gifts and doting on her son. Björn loves his mother very much and to this day, he cares for her as she reaches the end of her life.

Hi! 4, 7 and 16 for the MC Asks!

Thank you so much for the question! Sorry it took so long for me to get to! I hope you're having a great day! I'll be answering all these questions for my fan apprentice, Bakuli :) Ask prompts are here. My inbox will be open for these asks (and any others) for a while.

4. How did you choose their name? Does it have a specific meaning? If so, what?

Bakuli's full name is Bakuli Björnsdottir. I wanted her to be of Prakran descent on her mother's side and Southern Tribal descent on her father's, so I selected a name that could combine them both. Bakuli is the Hindi/Marathi name of a small white flower often used in garlands in India. I thought it was a pretty name. Bakuli's last name is similar to Lucio's (his being Morgasson -> Son of Morga). She is Bakuli, Daughter of Björn. Though Lucio's name is derived from his mother's, I had Bakuli's surname derived from her father's so that she could have pieces of both of her culture in her name.

7. What's their design? Do they have a reference sheet? What made you choose that specific color scheme/fashion style/etc.?

I'm working on refining her design yet again! But for now, this is what she looks like and here is a mood board/some more info on her. I really like the color purple, so I wanted to incorporate a lot of that into her fashion sense. Her magic is also very celestial based, so a lot of her outfits/accessories are themed using stars, moons, suns, etc...

16. Are they an early bird or a night owl? Something else?

She is an early bird! Morning is Bakuli's favorite time of day. It's quiet and peaceful and she can get a lot of her work done, including setting up the shop, tidying up, and practicing new spells! She and Julian can also get some quiet time together, since Lucio sleeps in and we all know how disruptive he can be haha.

Finally finished a series of my Arcana OC's outfits! First, we've got a more casual look for Bakuli, a dress she'd wear on a more regular basis. Next up, is her sparkly masquerade dress! Her mask (not shown, but coming soon!) is designed after an octopus. And finally, a more traditional sari 😊

Apprenticember- Days 20 and 21

Remember the Valentines Day event where you could pick between 3 gifts to give the LI? What 3 gifts would you write for your mc? and Now what kind of gifts are they most likely to give?

There's a significant time difference between where I am and my home country, so I'm a little thrown off this week haha. But here are days 20 and 21!

Bakuli could be given:

A celestial-themed journal. Bakuli loves to write poetry and would be delighted to receive a notebook as beautiful as this to jot down ideas in!

2. Literally anything octopus themed! Like a figurine, art prints, etc... Bakuli loves these curious, wonderful creatures!

3. Spices! Or spice blends! Bakuli LOVES to cook and try out new spices, so she would be over the moon to receive some new spices!

And in terms of what she would give MC, Bakuli would probably give them a nice, homemade calming potion! She's a master potion maker and knows MC could definitely use some moments of peace. So this definitely seems like something she would give MC :)

Apprenticember- Day 11

Do they have a gateway? What does it look like? If they don’t have one, describe their ideal spot instead.

Bakuli does have a gateway! It's a black sand beach with lots of tidepools to explore and calm, clear water. Magical creatures abound in her gateway. She likes to go there to get some time to herself and explore the depths. The water is warm, but the sea responds to Bakuli's emotions, so it can get cold, stormy, still, etc...
