Since I won't be home until August, my mom had to take Ziggy in for a nail and beak trim from the vet for the first time. I've always just done it myself, and I've done my best to train him to tolerate it and not be afraid of the pet nail dremel I use to file his beak down. Well guess what!!!
He was SUCH a good boy and he was SO BRAVE and calm I'm so proud of him.
Post-cope. Much better. And don't worry he got lots of wormies as a reward.

Giving Angel a quick brushing before work and I remembered that Petey needs his beak and claws trimmed this week. Time to buy new sanding tips for my rotary tool.

Exploring the great indoors.
——
A large white and black rooster faces away from the camera, in a living room setting just left of a wooden futon. A wooden media stand is seen behind him. The bird head comes just up to the wooden arm of the futon.

ok quick question;;
how essential is shading to the appeal of these
doin a little head-tilt at the flat version since i think it looks kind of ok, but i don't trust my instincts, lol
but if ppl still like them without shades, it’ll save a lot of time & increase the blob output :v
thanks in advance for any feedback! <3

I was going to grab my laptop and do replies but the green dinosaur of evil decided to sit right on the edge of my bed ( right on top from where my laptop is ) and threaten to take a nasty poo if I open it. So now I am holding her seeds while she does her pedicure.

gave my tort a bath and a shell condition today. i had to buy a dremel to trim her beak because none of the stupid useless vets around here can do it. they're all cow and chicken vets. and dogs of course dog owners never have to worry about not being catered to lol.

Hello! I enjoy learning about starling behavior and care through your blog, and wanted to know if you have to trim/file your pet starlings' bills or if they self-manage? In some photos their bills seem longer than those I've seen on wild starlings, and I was just wondering if they can run into overgrowth issues in captivity like many other birds.
Because in captivity they're not constantly probing dirt for food like they would in the wild, overgrowth issues can happen if it isn't either self managed or trimmed and speed of growth can depend on the bird.
Exactly how much management they need depends on if they self groom or not. Ziggy tends to not do it while Bowie will. They both have pumice perches they can groom their nails and beak on, plus their food dishes are made of terra cotta which can help, but Ziggy doesn't really self groom on these. Bowie grooms her beak on her perch more and thus doesn't need coping (beak trimming) as often.
This is the reason their beaks look longer in some photos but not others. Ziggy's beak needs coping approximately once a month and Bowie needs it less than that. Some folks go to the vet and have it done, but I find this unnecessary for my birds as I'm experienced in beak and nail trimming. I use a pet nail dremel to file down the beak to normal proportions. If you have a good relationship with your bird and they trust you then it's a lot easier to handle them for trimming. Ziggy trusts me and is used to regular grooming so he mostly sits still while I'm doing it.
