Thanks to 🍸 @bittersandbrew • • • • • FRENCH CONNECTION 1.5 oz. Cognac 1.5 oz. Pineau des Charentes (or Sweet Vermouth) 0.25 oz. Grand Marnier or Cointreau 1 dash orange bitters Add all ingredients to mixing glass with ice. Stir until chilled. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a Luxardo cherry. - Now that I finally have all of my spirits unboxed 📦 and organized, I discovered that, while I have a ton of random ingredients, I'm lacking certain basics such as sweet 🍇 vermouth. This was a real bummer when I wanted to make a Manhattan last night. I ended up improvising with a bottle of Pineau des Charentes (because for some reason I have that but not sweet vermouth). Pineau des Charentes is a blend of the grape juice used to make Cognac and the Cognac itself. It's just a little higher proof than wine and is sweet but in a natural way with strong tones of vanilla fruit. I was pleasantly surprised how well it stood in for sweet vermouth in this French Manhattan riff. #cognac #manhattancocktail #improvise #bittersandbrew #theworlds50bestcocktails #barflixx #50bestcocktails #tw50bc https://www.instagram.com/p/CEFkEO9IFxG/?igshid=eet9xiqnn697

Thanks to 🍸 @bittersandbrew • • • • • BROWN DERBY 1.5 oz. Bourbon (preferably @fourrosesbourbon) 1 oz. Grapefruit juice 0.5 oz. Honey syrup Grapefruit peel for shaker Add all ingredients including grapefruit peel to shaker with ice. Shake until chilled. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a fresh grapefruit twist. - This one is for all you bourbon lovers out there who need a new morning drink. This week, Alex from @designingdrunk and I had an unintentional mind meld when we both decided to make a Brown Derby cocktail. The Brown Derby is a classic morning bourbon cocktail thats sweet and tart. This is a brunch drink for those who need a little extra kick to their weekend morning then say a mimosa. The traditional recipe calls for bourbon, grapefruit 🍊 juice, and honey 🍯. Alex adds a few dashes of grapefruit bitters to his recipe and I use a technique called the "regal shake" which is simply adding a citrus peel to the shaker with the ingredients. Both techniques add some needed bitterness to this drink which can get a little too sweet if you aren't careful. They're subtle tweaks on an otherwise great classic that bring a little more balance. This is an excellent morning drink if you love bourbon, and if you don't love bourbon this is a great flavorful introduction. #bourbonlovers #brunchcocktails #brownderby #bittersandbrew #theworlds50bestcocktails #tw50bc #50bestcocktails #barflixx #mixologist #cocktails https://www.instagram.com/p/B_xfneCIF1F/?igshid=8wftiexfwn83

Thanks to 🍸 @bittersandbrew • • • • • BLUE WATERS 1.5 oz. Rum 1 oz. Blueberry syrup* 0.75 oz. Lime juice Pinch of salt Add all ingredients to shaker with ice. Shake until chilled strain into cocktail glass. *Blueberry syrup: mix 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in pot over medium high heat. Let heat until it just starts bubbling. Add 10-15 blueberries and let steep until blueberries begin to burst. Stir, remove from heat, strain and chill. - Today I'm bring you a super simple tiki drink to get you through another week of at home quarantining. If you have limes 🍈, blueberries, and rum you have all you need. As much as I love being creative behind the bar, recently I've just wanted something easy to sip on to distract myself from what's going on in the news. I'm sure all of you can relate, and although it isn't easy to forget about the world's problems right now, we all need to wind down with a good drink and relax. Hopefully this helps you escape to your own happy place. #socialdistancing #happyplace #homebartender #bittersandbrew #theworlds50bestcocktails #tw50bc #50bestcocktails #barflixx https://www.instagram.com/p/B-tsADRol9k/?igshid=z850nhrgen4l

Thanks to 🍸 @bittersandbrew • • • • • PAPER PLANE 0.75 oz. Bourbon 0.75 oz. Aperol (@aperolspritzofficial) 0.75 oz. Amaro Nonino 0.75 oz. Lemon juice Add all ingredients to shaker and shake with ice. Strain into a coupe glass and serve. - A question I see a lot on online forums and get from family and friends is, "Where do I start if I don't like straight bourbon but want to try bourbon cocktails?" This is a challenging question. Most bourbon 🥃 cocktails seek to make the bourbon stand out, which is great if you're a bourbon lover, not so much if you're trying to ease in to it. In my experience the Paper Plane ✈ is a drink I can whip up and please all audiences, bourbon lovers and cautious beginners alike. Its straightforward - four ingredients all equal parts - but complex and full of flavor. Attaboy NYC's Sam Ross, came up with the idea for the drink in 2008 while he was working at The Violet Hour in Chicago and named it after the M.I.A track all over the radio that year. It's a summer riff on the classic Last Word cocktail that's bittersweet with a lemon zest and subtle fruitiness. Although Sam later changed the recipe to Aperol instead of Campari when he moved to NYC's Milk and Honey, the combination has become a modern classic. Approachable for a whiskey newbie and bracing enough for even the most hardened Negroni lover. Next time someone wants to try a whiskey cocktail but is unsure about borubon, make them this. They'll thank you later. #whiskeycocktail #bourbonlovers #paperplanes #nyccocktails #bittersandbrew #theworlds50bestcocktails #tw50bc #50bestcocktails https://www.instagram.com/p/B-bkAcGIHy3/?igshid=spcie6qmyiuo
