In an attempt to add a little spice/variety to this blog, I’ve come up with a new AU for Miranda that is going to serve as the general basis for a few plot(s) that have been discussed with others, but also open up some other opportunities for plotting with Miranda! Information on the new AU can be found under the cut, or you can check my Carrd/About page on Miri’s blog for the details as well. I’ll be making a few new tags to denote it (an me1 au and me2 au tag, and in the case of me3, if it’s using her squadmate verse the au tag will be used, if not her regular me3 tag will be used).
Runaway AU
This AU begins prior to Mass Effect 1, where after running away from her father, Miranda was part of Cerberus for a short time before defecting prior to Mass Effect 1. Using the resources she had access to through Cerberus, Miranda created herself a new identity: Miri Solheim, which she used to enlist with the Systems Alliance. Her talent was unmatched by her peers, leading her to completing an officer’s degree in electronic sabotage with some talent in trauma and first-responder tactics. She is granted the rank of Second Lieutenant by the start of Mass Effect 1, and is assigned to the SSV Normandy as part of its shakedown run. As a result, Miranda is present for the events of Mass Effect 1 as a member of the crew.
Following the destruction of the SSV Normandy SR-1, Miranda leaves the Alliance and touches base with Jacob Taylor, and the events of Mass Effect: Galaxy occur (them stopping an assassination on the Citadel Council). Much to her surprise, the Illusive Man reaches out to her and Jacob again, proposing an offer: he wanted to bring Commander Shepard back to life, and proposed the thought that Miranda was the only one talented and intelligent enough to lead such an endeavour. Despite her previous defection from the organization, she is put in charge of the Lazarus Project to resurrect Shepard, with The Illusive Man watching closely over her actions.
During Mass Effect 2, Miranda’s loyalty to Cerberus is a facade, and her loyalty is specifically to Shepard. The events of Mass Effect 2 continue as normal, and she defects after the suicide mission, choosing to go into hiding. This can then tie in with her ME3 Squadmate AU or can follow the game’s canon.

i'm sorry to be bothering you with this but you're like the most active blog with the stand content, and i like your opinions. but i'm here just to vent, cause i was so fucking disappointed at the show and i actively decided "you know what i'm just gonna pretend it never happened and go on with life", but i can't. not a day goes by that i don't feel extremely mad or that i do not check on the stand tag on tumblr to check other people's opinions, and tbh i am so fucking sad i cannot let it go, you know? every day i am taken over by a wave of anger. and i know the topic of nick being disrespected and the topic of harold having a show just for him has been overly discussed. but i don't even think it matters? cause everything was so incredibly bad? i mean, it was lazy. and i mean literally everything. the only thing that would be defendable would be the cast, which is a lot of very talented nice people, but then they cast hearing boy for a deaf character (i'm not shitting on henry zaga, he's a good enough actor, but ableism, yk??) and then AMBER HEARD? they fucked up the one good thing they had going on wich was the cast... but anyway, the whole thing with the laziness just... kills me. like no character development for anyone at all. not even "main character" harold had development. you knew the exact kind of shit he was from minute 1 and nothing changed. what about frannie and stu?? simply out of no where. glenn didn't even get a backstory or flashbacks of his own?? and omg the dreams?? like... so shallow and i felt like it wasn't enough to convey how much of it permeated the story development?? i am just honestly mad and i am sorry to vent on your asks i just don't have anyone else to vent to who will get me.
Okay first thing I meant to answer this last night and somehow...didn’t idk. Second thing, you’re not bothering me IN THE LEAST so don’t worry about that!! Third, and I say this as someone who’s been on tumblr a while and absolutely no criticism is meant, but when did tumblr start allowing asks this long?? This is like a fan mail of old.
Anyway...a cut bc y’all know why...
God DAMN it makes me so mad bc of the wasted potential. Like you’ve got this book that’s beloved by millions, one of the most popular books written by one of the world’s most popular authors, and like. There’s not much you need to change!! Mostly it’s updating things!! Say what you want about SK, but the man KNOWS storytelling, and with the exception of some bad tropes he uses too often and outdated depictions, he knows character development!! Like it is literally RIGHT THERE on the PAGE!!
So okay you don’t wanna make a shot-by-shot adaptation. That’s fine!! I don’t mind adaptational changes!! What bothers me is when you change things to the point that someone new to the material doesn’t “get” it. I mean duh obviously anyone can get the basic plot of the The Stand, but I mean like how...new ppl don’t understand why Nick’s death is a big deal. They don’t get the importance of the dreams. They only see “magic” in Flagg, and not in like...the entire fabric of the world King’s built. And also they aren’t fucking pissed at the US Military for starting the whole gd thing, and then acting like such dicks about it.
That’s the hardest pill to swallow for me: the letdown. I was so excited about having a new, updated Nick. More Nick!! Because it’s 9 hours!! Nick signing?!? I hate ofc that they cast a hearing actor, but there wasn’t anything I could do to change that, so I was hoping that at least they’d be, like, accurate in their portrayal of a deaf-mute character. But then they WEREN’T and it was BAD and LAZY.
I just see LAZY written all over this in mile-high letters. Coasting on King’s bonafides, trusting that fan allegiance alone would paper over their flaws and let things slide. I keep comparing it to Game of Thrones, but honestly that’s what it feels like. D&D were such lazy god awful HACKS, and it wasn’t finally until the last couple of seasons that fans started waking up to that fact. Boone & co didn’t have the benefit of goodwill from earlier seasons, so they’re getting roasted right away. As they should be. Nadine’s lack of gray hair = Dany’s lack of purple eyes. Lack of focus on the dreams = lack of focus on the direwolves...and it all just goes downhill from there.
I just wish for every adaptation from now on we could have a little committee in the room that calls the showrunners out on basic misunderstandings about the work they’re adapting. “Oh it’s just hair color, who cares??” “Well 1) a lot of ppl, but also 2) maybe it would be okay if you ALSO didn’t make all these other changes that clearly demonstrate how little you care about fundamental worldbuilding here...”
But!! That group is allowed 1 (one) token straight white male, and the rest have to be POC, women, and the gays. And a mixture thereof.
Literally I think 90% of our problems could have been solved by diversifying the writing room. Because even if they made adaptational changes we didn’t like, at least they wouldn’t be shitty white boy changes rife with tokenism.

Hello! This is just me being curious and i dunno if this has been asked or said already or pointed it out, but who is your most #1 favorite character in bnha, if you had to choose one (and why)? Also, i love your bnha fic so much. You're such a talented and dedicated writer. I wish i could tell you how much every update made my day and week. Thank you so much for your work, i really am grateful for them. Looking forward to many more of them if you ever get more ideas (you're very creative!)
First off, thank you for sending a question my way at all and reading my fics! That means the world to me as a writer to know that people are enjoying these silly crazy ideas. You’re far too kind, Anon. It just warms my soul.
I’m really horrible at taking compliments but trust me I’m so flustered I can barely type this without turning redder than the freaking sun.
ANYWAY.
Alright. Hm.
Well, I haven’t explicitly stated who my favorite character is in BNHA. I mean, it’s a bit obvious if you kind of pay attention with how much I talk about Katsuki Bakugou and Izuku Midoriya.
Izuku Midoriya is, in fact, my favorite character in BNHA.
By a landslide.
Oh, Anon.
You want to know why Izuku is my favorite character?
*Cracks knuckles.*
You asked for it.
This isn’t going to be that long of a response or explanation as to why I love Izuku so much, since I’m sure there are plenty of other blog posts stating why he’s such a beloved and adored character.
I’ll be honest though. Going into this anime, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like him at all. But, I also wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy the anime, period.
When it comes to anime, movies, books, whatever, I must be attached to the characters. I must have a connection of some kind to the people involved. Otherwise, in my mind, there is no point in watching. Perhaps that’s the introspective part of my personality and brain that causes this judgment, but nevertheless, that’s how it is for me as a viewer.
No matter how polished the story is, and no matter how incredible or monumental the themes are (with a few choice exceptions depending on the genre), I will not find the work enjoyable if the characters are paper-thin pieces of blank shit that can be swapped for just about any cut-and-paste personality.
So, let’s get back to Izuku.
For one thing, hats off to the mangaka for completely flipping over my expectations of what Izuku was going to be like.
From what I gathered from this show, I was concerned it was going to follow the roots of Naruto with its central character (and before you ask, no, I actually don’t hate Naruto at all; I respect it quite a bit). That story and that protagonist work really well together, but
Izuku’s flaws, dreams, and expectations are so welcoming and human in this type of shōnen manga/anime that it’s almost impossible not to feel connected to him.
Also, he’s a character that, while having a good heart, never makes excuses for those who do wrong and those who have done wrong to him, making his flaws and strengths equally consistent and believable.
I also tend to be very drawn to characters who, as I mentioned before, have consistent flaws and strengths that play off of each other and are unique to each situation and life experience. In addition to that, Izuku’s journey to acquiring his Quirk is one of the most pleasant things I loved about the first season of BNHA.
Let me emphasize this next one because it’s a huge point that should be taken more seriously in general in the world of storytelling.
One of the worst and most non-relatable traits in a protagonist of any kind - whether it be from a manga, anime, television show, book, or film - is the trait of being gifted with the ultimate power or blessing with no hard work put into the experience whatsoever.
This is, unfortunately, a very prevalent trope in shōnen manga and anime.
In a show about superheroes and where the main protagonist, who is quickly deemed as “powerless/Quirkless,” receives a powerful Quirk from his childhood idol, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was worried that Izuku was going to be subjected to this trope and acquire the ability.
But. Again. Hats off to the mangaka. He took this trope and subverted it.
Izuku Midoriya not only has to slave off for months and months to acquire the strength he needs to successfully harness his passed-down Quirk, but needs to learn how to control it afterwards as well.
(This trope is also subverted in Hunter X Hunter. I would gladly compare them, but perhaps that’ll be another deconstruction/analysis/whatever these are).
This is, thankfully, applicable to the rules of every other Quirk in this show because, really, the attention and care put into building the Quirk system and how it relates to each character is a strength in the writing and development of the overall anime/manga.
My favorite part about Izuku’s relations to his Quirk?
Well.
I find Izuku - and how he uses his Quirk - to be incredibly relatable because of his core personality. Again, I’m impressed that his flaws are actually given attention and not discarded for the sake of plot.
I’m relieved and overjoyed that when the story shows him as a hopeless fanboy and nerd, that it’s actually believable with evidence in the character’s actions, dialogue, and personality.
He’s a crybaby, and it’s obvious to everyone around him.
He lacks an enormous amount of self-preservation and this ties into his lack of understanding that him discarding his safety to activate his Quirk is not going to help him in the long run (and this ties into his personality on top of it).
He’s too forgiving. Honestly, Izuku would, ideologically, be angrier, be more distressed, but his character is very human in its complexity and we are able to connect to the idea that, while he does admit his pain and faults, he’s willing to focus on the greater outcome and pursue that instead.
Izuku can be a bit of a coward, and incredibly reckless on top of it. While this is a bit ironic, given his role in the story, it’s made fairly obvious that Izuku’s stubbornness and incredibly kind heart outweigh his cowardliness and actually promote his recklessness and desire to protect people as a result.
But, there are particular reasons why I listed Izuku’s flaws like this. Flaws and strengths balance each other. They reflect each other.
Personalities and emotions are far too complex to be shown through diagrams and bar charts, but, we can deduce from the evidence provided in the anime and manga that these are some of Izuku’s most primary flaws.
Now, think about this: in the world of manga, in the world of superheroes, are these the flaws you would normally admit to being drawn to in a character?
Lacking self-preservation? Being a crybaby? Being a nerdy little fanboy? Being too forgiving and thinking twice on the concept of revenge? Being a bit of a coward and being, at times, a bit too optimistic?
I’ll be honest with you about this.
When it came to the “crybaby/fanboy/nerd” aspect in particular, no, I would never be drawn to characters like this.
Most of the time I resented them for glorifying and romanticizing the aspects of a character that are considered almost the constant end of a joke in poor taste.
But the way Izuku is written, the way he carries himself and actually acknowledges his flaws as both strengths and weaknesses not only make him an impressive shōnen protagonist character, but a human one as well.
It makes it incredibly easy to root for him, to become attached to him, because his struggles, his heart, his mind - while not the ideal mindset of a superhero - are wholeheartedly, unequivocally, human.
Ah. I need to stop with how long these are. Jesus Christ.
This is a bit abrupt but I definitely got carried away with this. I could go on for hours on my favorite characters because I put so much time and energy into thinking about them, and I guess that’s a bit unhealthy? But, eh. Whatever.
Um. So. My bad, Anon. But, there’s your answer! :D Thanks so much for the question!

Just a small update regarding Alisa’s verses! I’ve officially opted to add a more full-trilogy squadmate verse for Alisa, opening up things for some ME1 interactions with other characters from the series. I’d wanted to do this for a bit, but given she was originally created for OC-only forum roleplay years ago, it’s taken me a bit to get to these. Info on the AU can be found under the cut, or you can find it in the Verses section on my blog/Carrd!
Trilogy Squadmate AU
In this AU, Alisa is assigned as part of the marine ground team after Eden Prime, and is a transfer requested by Admiral Kahoku due to Alisa’s experience researching Cerberus and their activities. At this point, she is the rank of Staff Lieutenant, and per her history did not partake in the pirate investigation near New Canton that killed the Romanov’s CO, Captain Lalonde.
As part of the Normandy’s crew, she is available as a squadmate, and after the Battle of the Citadel, she is invited to Interplanetary Combatives Training, where she receives her N7 commendation. She left for Rio de Janeiro prior to the Normandy’s crash landing on Alchera, and thus was not part of the attack. After completing her training, she is reassigned as the Commanding Officer of the Romanov, and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander by 2185.
She is not part of the crew in ME2, though she can *optionally* be encountered on Horizon with Kaidan/Ashley. Her reaction to Shepard, if on Horizon, will depend on the outcome of Virmire: if Kaidan was left behind, she will be less trusting, but if Kaidan (or both) survived, then she will be more amicable. She joins the crew in ME3 on Earth after the Romanov is destroyed during the initial attack, and is present for the entirety of the Reaper War (per her ME3 Squadmate AU below).

Modern AU
LIMITED VERSE -- this means we must have ongoing interactions in the Mass Effect verse if you'd like a thread in this verse, either with this muse or one of my other muses.
Miranda is the eldest daughter of Henry Lawson and Astrid Solheim, and was born in Sydney, Australia. For years, they struggled to conceive a child, but Miranda was miraculously conceived via IVF, while other embryos were frozen. Because of Henry Lawson's booming business connections, Miranda was enrolled in a prestigious private school, as well as with private tutoring lessons and violin lessons. She became a child prodigy, performing a number of violin recitals and became somewhat of a local sensation. As she became a teenager her popularity only grew, and she became well-known in the music community. Despite this, Henry Lawson was intent on having Miranda take over the company at some point, and at the age of sixteen he had her enrolled in advanced business classes.
Miranda chafed under his authority, stating that she wanted to study music and continue her career as a star violinist. This caused some rifting between them, with Henry eventually agreeing that Miranda could study both, so long as she was enrolled in business classes at the same time.
When Miranda turned eighteen, her younger sister Oriana was born. This caused even more of a rift between them; behind the scenes, Astrid was not entirely agreeable with the pregnancy, and she and Henry often fought about it. Not long after Oriana's birth, Astrid mysteriously disappeared. While most of the cirumstantial evidence pointed at Henry Lawson, there was not enough concrete evidence for a case.
Due to the mysterious circumstances and Henry Lawson's involvement, it was determined that he would not be a fitting guardian for Oriana, and Miranda was granted full guardianship of her baby sister, along with a significant sum of money: Astrid, years before, had set up an insurance policy with Miranda as the sole beneficiary, leaving her a comfortable sum to live off of while looking after her sister. However, Miranda came to realize this was unsustainable, and instead looked for a family that would adopt Oriana, ensuring that the adoption was closed and that the files were sealed, so that Henry Lawson would have no contact with Oriana.
Suspecting her father’s involvement in Astrid’s disappearance, Miranda enrolled herself in a forensic psychology program in the United States, completing her degree while maintaining regular contact with her sister’s adoptive family, though she never made contact with Oriana directly. She completed her degree with significant honours and perfect scores. Since then, she has worked in the field of forensics, further completing degrees in forensic psychology and criminal justice.
