Just out of curiosity, which one of the fictional versions of Akutagawa is your favourite? I'm pretty sure you all know the one from BSD, but what about the others? I bet it'll be an interesting compare them to many of you, so check out the ones, that I find to be the most curious depictions at the moment!

Ryu-kun is technically not Akutagawa, but rather the personification of the author's writings, as almost all other characters in TNH are, however he has much, much more to do with the real novelist than Akutagawa from BSD, who is on the list, so I thought it to be appropriate to include him too 🤭

How You imagines the reactions of Dazai and Akutagawa (bungou stray dogs) if meet they versions from bungou to alchemist (especially with the fanatism of BTA Dazai to BTA Akutagawa)

Personally, mostly see BSD Akutagawa heckling his BTA counterpart for not fully appreciating his Dazai’s adoration.

With the two Dazai, both are convinced that no way the other is them. Or BTA Dazai is freaked out that BSD Dazai is the walking embodiment of his own mask near the end of his life

you have Dan Kazuo's "The Don Quixote Who Fell From the Sky" on the list of bsd/bta/other authors' works, but I was wondering if there are other translations of Dan's work that you can find? i like his writing quite a bit, but it's hard for me to find any.

I looked in all my anthologies and checked every website I could think of, but I couldn't find anything else by Dan Kazuo translated into English. To my knowledge, the only English translation of Dan Kazuo's works is "The Don Quixote Who Fell From the Sky."

I went through the books I have and was only able to find a few references to Dan Kazuo, and they were all in relation to Dazai Osamu. Because these sources aren't available online I'll include the information here:

In April 1934 a new literary magazine, Ban (The Moorhen), was founded by a group of young writers. One of them, Dan Kazuo (1912-1976), was so impressed by "Memories" that he promised in the editorial he wrote for the first issue that each subsequent issue would carry a work by Dazai. (Donald Keene, Dawn to the West, pg. 1039-40)

In 1935 the Akutagawa Prize was established and Dazai entered but Ishikawa Tatsuzo was awarded the prize. Shortly afterward, Sato Haruo urged Dazai to enter a hospital to take care of his drug addiction. Dazai went to the hospital, but "left after a few days to go on a drunken spree with Dan Kazuo" (Dawn to the West, pg. 1043)

In November 1935, at Dan Kazuo's instigation, the publishing house Sunagoya Shobou agreed to publish Dazai's first collection of short stories. It was a selection from the stories he had been writing since 1932. He chose the title Bannen (The Final Years), meaning that his life was drawing to a close, and intending the collection as his last will and testament. (Phyllis I. Lyons, The Saga of Dazai Osamu: A Critical Study with Translations, pg. 39)

I recently read his novel Ningen Shikkaku in preparation to read Dazai's route in Ikevamp and ended up liking it a lot. I went onto the #Dazai tag on tumblr and saw anime boys all the way down, which led to watching Bungo Stray Dogs. I like that Dazai too! So now I'm wondering if there's more itinerations of Dazai to enjoy, somewhere. Thanks so much for reading and answering!

As you have already mentioned there is BSD Dazai, which is also the first one I have ever encountered and he's iconic. The whole BSD has a special place in my heart for reigniting my love for reading and making me start reading the classics that inspire the abilities in the show. I can't quite articulate how important Dazai's existence as a character was for me. It just got me through a rough adolescence and when I listen to his character song I somehow both wanna cry and it gives me strength to go on.

It's so fuckin wild when i think how if i didn't find one YouTube video back in like 2015 something and i didn't find Dazai I would have never downloaded Ikevamp cuz the add that I kept getting of the game showed mostly napoleon. Well, "Napoleone" to which i thought "that's fucking stupid. I'm not playing this game... Wait. It has a DAZAI IN IT!???? WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME THAT SOONER" and if I didn't download Ikevamp i wouldn't have downloaded ikesen. And ikepri. And I wouldn't be here on tumblr simping for Gilbert like a hopeless dumb bitvh—wait. sorry. i went on a tangent.

I love our Ikevamp Dazai too. His route is everything i ever could have wanted as a multiverse Dazai simp.

Now the one less known would be Dazai from Bungou to Alchemist, which If when you read that you picture this:

This is one of those anime that I feel like I was the only person in the world to watch it, which is sometimes a nice feeling. But then I went on pinterest and found a few fanarts and memes and turns out no, I'm not the only one who knows it exists.

Joking aside, The actual show looks like this:

This incarnation of Dazai is also supposed to be the author, after he died (like ikevamp dazai) and the gist is that these famous authors get reincarnated into this magic library and they have these magic weapons and they have to enter the world of books and fight akumas that want to destroy the stories cuz... Anime? Don't remember. There's also a talking cat. Anyways,

This interpretation of Dazai is... Closer to BSD Dazai in personality? Sorta. He's still "playing the clown" and underneath that is the "no longer human" but he's waaay less smooth than Ikevamp Dazai. And there's something so relatable about Dazai's adoration of Akutagawa's works except that Dazai as a... Character archetype is to me what Akutagawa's works are to him and I know there are people out there who feel that way about the actual author's works. I haven't read any of his novels yet but I read one of his shirt shories and it was such... Raw emotion.

The interesting gist is that he and Akutagawa's incarnation meet from episode 1 and their relationship is interesting. Cuz in BSD their relationship is reversed, while here it's closer to irl. Dazai finally getting to meet his idol and he's like

it's so adorable till it's a lil heartbreaking. They're a lil like a student and teacher except that Dazai's had a different actual teacher that appears at some point. That may be why he feels younger than BDS Dazai to me, somehow, despite the fact BTA Dazai is supposed to be the one who died at 30 and BSD Dazai is 22.

And we see him with his writer friends Oda and Ango it's so cute till it's heartbreaking cuz everyone around here has at least a lil bit of depression. They are writers afterall.

There are some writers that were characters in BSD too. They have a Chuuya. And he's even shorter. There are other's who I've never heard of before or since.

The anime is based on a japanese game (That's why the set up is so RPG fighting game based and some characters get more screentime than others) that i never managed to find much on. I found a few cards screenshots. Is it on mobile? Desktop? Does it even still exist in the year of our Lord 2022? Idk cuz it's not translated and i don't speak japanese and I haven't lookes it up in a long time. Some characters from the game don't even appear in the anime. I only know Kunikida and Atsushi from fanart and I. Feel. Robbed. Cuz they look SO CUTE. ATSUSHI SOMETIMES HAS GLASSES AND SOMETIMES DOESN'T WHICH I TOOK TO MEAN HE HAS A DOUBLE PERSONALITY AND I TOOK TO CALLING ONE OF THEM ATSU AND THE OTHER NAKA AND RANPO LOOKS LIKE SOME KINDA ARSENE LUPIN/TUXIDO MASK

Anyways. I love all of my Dazais.
