You mentioned that the Valhalla post on Twitter seemed to hint at explicit canon but I'm wondering what you read that I didn't? (100% serious question). Since we've been ooing and aww-ing about every single Melissa pic, zooming in, drooling over pixelated pics....I figured it was a post that basically told us to hang in there, that we wouldn't be disappointed with the amount of Carol content we'll get. That the wait would be worth it. It never occurred to me that it might be about Caryl....

The tweet promises a good show, regardless of how Valhalla, Gale or her social media manager view what's "worth waiting for." The only way to make good on that promise is to give the core audience of The Book of Carol what they want. These are fans AMC can rely on to invest money and time in their show. Yes, we're thrilled to see all the bts photos of Melissa/Carol/Caryl there are to see since we've been intentionally starved of them for so long, but those photos are promotional. They get us talking and speculating. It doesn't mean we will accept whatever poor storytelling they give us just because Carol is there (case in point, S11).

We're expecting a compelling hero arc and explicit canon. If we get another ambiguous moment like the ILY, there will be another round of mixed reactions. The audience will be fragmented on how they feel and the expectations for the future will be equally affected. People have waited over ten seasons for this moment. Their expectations are high (as they should be), so it needs to create this sense of gratification and relief i.e. "FINALLY!!" and "WE MADE IT HERE!!" and all the other happy feelings. It's the only way for AMC to retain their core audience and grow it for the future of the show.

My point isn't so much that the tweet is guaranteeing we'll get explicit canon. Keep in mind they still have reshoots and post to get through, which could make all the difference if AMC doesn't put their foot down. My point is more that, if the official accounts are promising we'll all like what's coming, and we want them to do that, then AMC has to make sure we will all indeed like what's coming.

watching this random show I found on Hulu where Jodie Whittaker commits identity theft and becomes an A&E doctor and like... doctor bit aside, which is kinda funny in itself, her accent is SO MUCH THICKER than as THE Doctor?? makes me wish she'd been using her full accent in DW tbh

okay i legit Just saw this going to look at a different ask bc this site is a nightmare but!!

Yeah her accent is So much thicker in reality, I actually didn't see/hear/read anything about the show or her till after S11 had aired because i'd had a legal separation from the show since S8, I just Barely caught her first ep on tv mostly by accident, so uh, I missed all the lead up and interviews and literally everything but the casting announcement i think, so when I looked up bts stuff after i'd watched S11 and I saw video of Jodie being herself i was legitimately thrown by what I saw And heard.

Like. I know I go on about 13's body language a lot, but along with Jodie's MUch thicker accent, her body language is So Wildly Different to 13's that it legitimately made me reconsider how I was viewing 13 as a character even before they started chipping away at 13's composure in S12.

Jodie's so very physical, but i'd only seen her be 13, who is not touchy but not in a super obvious way like 12 wasn't, just... Subtly. But Jodie's out here hugging people and throwing arms over shoulders and grabbing arms and in general living in other people's personal space that i was like... wtffffff, this is visually wrong to me. Whenever people miss that 13's not touchy, I get the urge to play them videos of Jodie interacting with people because the contrast is astounding.

but long story short Jodie's acting her ass off in this role, she's changing her voice, she's being physically aware at All times on top of just in general emoting and line delivery. She doesn't get any credit for this for a variety of bs reasons and it drives me up a wall.

And I still want those outtakes where her accent made saying Flux sound like Fuck, tho. Cough up, BBC.

Honestly, I assume she got told? to tone it down? bc people couldn't understand Capaldi sometimes? Which is weird to me, personally, but my family is from where he's from so i concede that being able to understand a regional accent i'm familiar with isn't an objective opinion. But it's not like they don't have a history of getting the doctor actor to edit their accent.

and yeah. I have seen the jodie in scrubs gifs. She looks good in scrubs. I wish i liked medical dramas.

Interesting to note that Edlund left in S8 and Jenny Klein in S11 (same as Robbie Thompson). So I guess Edlund knows Berens through Jenny. Also, Kripke and Berens standing together is a nice touch, I'm sure certain people are seething about it.

it's a little more than that. Edlund didn't stay entirely divorced from SPN either. He didn't really stay fingers in like some others BTS, but he still chatted with a lot of folks you know

I will admit I do not know much about Jenny beyond, yeah, she was part of the group that bounced in S11, consider it the Charlie Dumped In A Bathtub Because Singer Is An Asshole And Our Contracts Lapsed exodus.

Berens this fandom truly does not understand how both loved and respected he was internally, and how much power he had beyond what any title gave him, but especially once he was actually full exec. He was all things anti Singer, he had all power almost handed to him by Dabb with permission to basically forge showrunners notes and shit. The actors knew what they were doing to try to outrun singer before covid dropped, everybody knew.

Berens is the tie that binds: old friendship with Thompson that is unparalleled; aged into Dabb and conquered that room. Berens picked up Thompson's old plots, carried them through and spoke them into his gnostic philosophy lens, and now full circle it's rounding back to Thompson. Berens just gets to hand his buddy back their old work.

I've never heard of Kripke and Berens talking but I am negative surprised that they do, because again. Berens. Just. People don't get it. This fandom will never get or accept the fucking labor that man put in fighting for the same things they wanted, and the revolution in the writing crew, or just where the story of the absent god that didn't care but wanted to control the story came from. And how rude it was for him to visibly laugh as that entire plan was smashed in Dean's face at the end.

You'll notice Singer's gone. Jensen fingersnapped him out of existence, not brought him back. He's not at anybody's weddings. He's not being invited to birthday parties. And I can tell you, literally, quite personally, whether you believe me or not, he and eugenie aren't even welcome at Thanksgiving.

But yeah. That group. Berens is really the tie that binds across.

So before I fall asleep and forget panels

Mandip really has loved every minute, talks about how good a "number one" is - Jodie leading the cast in a totally supportive way so everyone had lunch in her trailer just as a matter of course as they talked things out and she looked out for them; she's "the boss" to Bradley Walsh and even he was impressed by how she does that BTS job of kind of being the captain and anchoring/guiding them (Colin Spaul who did classic Who and new mentions there really isn't much time for rehearsal now, unlike the old days, so not a lot of time to plan and experiment)

S11-12 Jodie was 1, Brad 2, Tosin 3, she was 4, and she probably should've been 3 with John Bishop's experience but Jodie said absolutely not; also in scenes without the Doctor Mandip was half jokingly being 1 but had actually learned a lot from Jodie about leading a cast, a lot of bts stuff she'll take with her [parallelling Yaz!] obviously admires her as well as being really good friends

it's Mandip's first con in the states so of course she's getting really competitive trying to beat Barrowman's ribbon collection

she doesn't think of it as work (she said this at the smaller meet & greet) she really does love acting!

Mandip was a little disappointed they had to stay in wales ("I love Wales!" she hastened to add) for s13 after going to S Africa and Tenerife and Bulgaria, but she liked the continuity, getting to work with actors for several stories like past work

Her favorite stunt so far, although they're tiring, was the crane, just because she'd been doing "telly in the kitchen" right before that, and that scene told her right away this was Big (although she didn't like the heights)

upside down isn't as fun as she thought it would be; headache!

She didn't know that yaz was going to fall for the Doctor until she read those lines on the page — she and Jodie were both like "hm, yeah, we can work with this!" —although it was a natural progression. Until then had been playing it that Yaz admired and loved the Doctor in one way or another, but it totally made sense (she talked about falling in love after becoming good friends with someone, and about how Yaz's flashes of anger with the Doctor are because it hurts more when someone you love hurts you; you don't care so much "if it's a bus driver being rude")

Yes, she had her "Thasmin is canon" ribbon; it was the first thing she mentioned, to much applause. Given her by interviewer Riley Silverman

She talked about representation, understanding it as an Asian actor and why it matters to see characters like you on the media you watch.

And it was just a relaxed and comfortable interview. Riley mentioned at lobbycon that Mandip appreciated Riley had really listened to what she said, more than most interviewers do, which Riley noted as sad. [That's the trouble with prepared questions. Riley is a standup comic, so she's better at improv.]

I feel like I should have more for Sacha but his interview was before Mandips and the interviewer's questions weren't as good.

He has tremendous respect for and spent a lot of time with Waris Hussein. (Who said he did a good job, except while watching rehearsal "I was more posh."

Sacha joking about his not-posh Mancunian (Manchester) accent: he's the first Master not to call himself Maaaahst-ah with that initial posh a-sound. He's from a small village in Manchester, misses it.

Talked a lot about variable modes of his Master, that rather than wearing latex masks he rips off, he likes to settle into other roles, other lives, almost as if he's trying to escape being himself — he's the "Master of disguise" and keeps acting in new ways so you're never quite sure which is the real him.

Got down into his mind a little bit, being resentful of not being appreciated, old friends/enemies with the Doctor, etc etc etc.

Suggested a wild idea— with canon changing/refreshing in weird ways — he could be the next Doctor (I almost think he meant his Master; he's still learning the lore. But he was joking around.)

Asked if he had a controversial take on the Master, what he would have his Master say, he kind of curled around the mike and did a tortured "I love you, Doctor" which would have caused several shippers' heads to explode. I'm not sure he is aware of the shipping, although I suspect by the end of this weekend, he'll be informed.

He and the interviewer had mentioned therapy at some point, so they concluded that perhaps s14 should include the Doctor and the Master in couples therapy.

May I ask what’s your favourite domestic/married Japril scene? I think mine would be them sitting on the bench in S11 outside the hospital with their hands on April’s belly and talking/smiling at one another. Just something so sweet and soft about that scene 🥰 also, super random but I was curious when watching these scenes, on whether Sarah’s daughter actually moved while filming scenes where they there’s contact with her belly hehe; I guess we will never know!

Ohhh I love that scene, it really is so soft💙💙💙 I often wonder about bts things like that too, that would've been cute :-)

I am indecisive so I can't pick one favorite sorry about that!! So besides the one you mentioned I really love the 'You're gonna be a great daddy scene', the way they look at each other at the end of that scene is everything, definition of heart eyes!!

I also loooove the one where Jackson is making the dinner and April comes home, hugs him from behind, revealing that they've gotten married idk why it's a simple scene but they're just so soft and happy and relaxed idk they truly feel at home with each other bc they're finally together.

And an episode where they're married, but it's more of a silly one for them that I love is 10.19, the one with April's swimsuit I love all of their scenes there, I wish we'd gotten more episodes like that one for them.
