Eliza's movies! (almost all as of 2023)
While many people first learned of Eliza from BTVS, she was actually in 6 full length movies before appearing on Buffy!
- To celebrate that I finished watching everything Eliza this year, I made this for (almost) all of her movies. I know there's things to improve, but it was fun to make in photopea. Once I get better maybe I'll do one that adds in her TV / series appearances. Or maybe I'll finally learn how to make gifs.
Credits: all images are from ElizaDushku.org, except Dear Albania which is from IMDB. very light mods to a few by me.
Nerd notes: - this does not include Mapplethorpe (2018) because she doesn't appear in it, although she produced it - screencaps for Bye Bye Love, Journey, Off Season, and The Saint - all other images (except for Dear Albania) are production stills - these are mostly in chronological order, with some minor adjustments - this leaves out 4 movies, 2 of which I haven't seen, all of which are supposedly shorts - haven't seen Fishing with George (1994) or The Last Supper (2006), I cannot find either - this also leaves out One Shot (2011) and The Gable 5 (2014) which you can find easily

I feel conflicted about this new btvs audio drama they've announced bc on the one hand I love audio dramas. They are my favourite thing in the world. And I also love Cordy. She is my other favourite thing in the world. But on the other hand I've hated basically every single attempt made at post-Chosen btvs content so far, and even the ones I don't hate I still on principle think they're kind of pointless. Like BtVS is a show that ends on a sort of ambiguous note, with its main character finally free to take whatever path in life she wants and we, the audience, don't get to find out what she does with that freedom and that's the point. The beauty of Chosen as a finale (and also Not Fade Away) is the ambiguity there, and there's no way to create official post canon content without weakening that. So even if the audio drama is fine it's like. What's the point.
Also, this is a toxic trait of mine but I can and will be such a gatekeeper about big media companies making audio dramas I'm sorry. Like NO this isn't a medium for film and TV people making spin offs of popular shows this is for tiny production companies and friend groups making stuff together and guys recording episodes under blankets with cheap microphones. This is for messy unpolished art made on a shoestring budget that's only popular with a small niche audience of weird gay people who have had their DNA rewritten on a molecular level by it. Get out of there!!!

Willow: Snyder must be in charge of the volunteer safety program for Halloween this year. Xander: Note his interesting take on the volunteer concept. Buffy: What's the deal? Xander: Oh, a bunch of little kids need people to take them trick-or- treating. Sign up and get your own pack of sugar-hyped little runts for the night. Buffy: Yikes. I'll stick to vampires.

The Platform of Love
Today's inspiration comes from:
The Ins-N-Outs of In-N-Out Burger
by Lynsi Snyder
Editor's note: If you've ever had an In-N-Out burger, you know their dedication to serving really delicious fast food. This year is the 75th anniversary — 75 years of Double Doubles, shakes, and fries... Mmmm! Lynsi Snyder, the owner and President of In-N-Out shares their story in her new book The Ins-N-Outs of In-N-Out Burger. Enjoy this excerpt!
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” — Mark 16:15
"In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive." — Acts 20:35
"'Customers often notice Bible verses printed on In-N-Out products, and that practice has a history tied to my good memories about Uncle Rich.
Both Dad and Uncle Rich grew up with some faith in their home. As boys, my grandmother told them about God and taught them how to pray. When they were teens and young men, they wandered from their faith. But in the early 1980s, Rich reconnected with God in a much bigger way. He became an active member of Costa Mesa’s Calvary Chapel, led by Pastor Chuck Smith, and dedicated his life to Jesus. Rich didn’t claim to be perfect. But he finally found that the deep need in his heart could only be satisfied by Jesus and by finding his own identity in Him. I remember my uncle telling me once,
“I’m not always a good Christian, but I’m a Christian.”
In 1985, Rich began printing tiny references to Bible verses on In-N-Out paper goods. It was a way for him to express his faith, and he wanted to put that little touch of faith on our brand. In a 1990 episode of BTV, Rich explained, “I quietly did it a few years ago. I’m a Christian. For those who know me, they definitely know that I’m not perfect and neither is In-N-Out. We are trying to serve our communities and do a good job the best we can. I guess the reason [for the verses] is it’s my way of thanking God for helping In-N-Out so much. I took over In-N-Out when I was twenty-four years old, and for me it was kind of tough. I thank God that He helped me.”
Love God and love other people.
To this day, Revelation 3:20 is discreetly printed on hamburger and cheeseburger bags. Nahum 1:7 is on the Double-Double wrappers. Proverbs 3:5 sits underneath milkshake cups, Isaiah 53 is on certain holiday cups, Isaiah 9:6 is on Christmas cups, and John 3:16 is underneath soda cups. That tradition continues to this day. After I became president, I added Proverbs 24:16 to our fry boats, Luke 6:35 to coffee cups, and John 13:34 to the hot cocoa cups... We never try to force our beliefs on anyone, and customers with any faith tradition, or none, are certainly welcome through our doors. We hire and promote associates and managers who don’t share our faith.
God loves all people, and so do we! My family simply wants our faith to take a meaningful place in everything our company does. The verses act as encouragements.
Always, the goal is to love God and to love other people, and we’ve learned the platform of love is huge.
The feedback we get about the Bible verses is almost always positive. Customers don’t always share our faith, but they appreciate that we’re honest about our own faith journey, and that we want it to be part of the integrity of our company. Many commend our efforts to reach out, care for people, and lead with love.
An awareness of the blessings God has given inspires generosity. I think that was Rich’s intention in 1991, when he began sending In-N-Out Cookout Trailers to the missions around Los Angeles to prepare meals for the unhoused. That’s how the In-N-Out Feed the Homeless Program began, as a quiet way of providing delicious meals for the less fortunate.
We currently serve people involved with the Los Angeles Mission, Ventura Rescue Mission, San Diego Rescue Mission, and Long Beach Mission. These initiatives fit beautifully with part three of our mission statement, which states our purpose to help “communities in our marketplace [become] stronger, safer, and better places to live.” We invite other people to serve alongside us too.
It’s better to give than to receive."'

celia’s buffy rewatch: welcome to the hellmouth
thoughts (based on notes) under the cut! i took some notes on the harvest as well, but i’m tired and it’s very nearly one in the morning, so i will likely be writing stuff up tomorrow.
the dissonance between giles now & giles later is so compelling and noticeable! multiple times over the course of these two episodes -- as well as the rest of the season leading up into halloween -- we see him fumbling at the concept of entering the battlefield, and being functionally useless when he IS on the battlefield. it's really interesting to notice how many places btvs falters when retconning in some new piece of information about a character. my focus has of course always been on jenny and how this affected her, but it's clear that giles as well gets the short end of the stick when it comes to this: there is simply no logical way to explain away the fact that giles does not know how to fight. there's an attempt made by the show itself to assert "oh, giles is just pretending, he's just hiding his past," but this is giles!!! any attempts at subterfuge are placed aside if they don't serve the immediate situation, and it is utterly implausible to believe in him being SO devoted to his cover story of "hapless watcher" that he actively places himself in harm's way as many times as he does in these two episodes alone. he's literally squirming helplessly on the floor in the face of a vampire. it's sloppy writing and i'm intrigued by it because i never see it commented upon in fandom.
angel and buffy's first scene somehow managed to resonate even less with me than i expected, and i didn't expect much. angel's characterization is really suffering here from the fact that they do not yet know that he's a vampire -- as of this episode, he's clearly only meant to be a cryptic messenger guy, and we are not yet getting that same sense of overblown broodiness. it's weird to see angel quipping and lightly laughing and saying things like "i don't bite" with a kind of playful intensity. he's acerbic in a way that feels more angelus than angel. it's off-putting, and it's definitely a by-product of the show still finding its footing. i'm interested in seeing how my buffy/angel feels develop as the next few seasons go on; i think that'll definitely be a focus for me as i continue to watch.
first song ever in the bronze is a BANGER. enough said.
i had to look this up even though it's pretty much fandom knowledge, but giles and buffy's "six inch rule" really jumped out at me as a total necessity after the first episode! i don't remember who drew the parallel between giles & buffy in this episode on the catwalk of the bronze, observing the dancing club-goers with giles's dispassionate narration (thereby implying that he and buffy are separate from all that) & spike and buffy five seasons later on the catwalk of the bronze, observing the dancing club-goers with spike's adjacent narration BEFORE HE AND BUFFY HAVE SEX. i think there's something really interesting there to be said about buffy's weird daddy issues -- i don't think that the show intended there to be a Vibe there between giles and buffy, and i think that it backpedaled literally as soon as it realized what it had created. but it absolutely exists. i was having this whole conversation with my dad about how jarring that scene is and he was like "yeah that is so absolutely not how you stand near a sixteen year old girl you barely know," which -- again -- makes sense that they'd institute that six-inch rule after that. it's not that there's chemistry, because i really do not think there is; there's cool exasperation from giles and outright antagonistic antipathy from buffy. it's that the framing of the shot and the physical closeness of the two of them both combine to evoke this weird pseudo-romantic image, and again i cannot get out of my head the fact that buffy repeats this scene with spike multiple seasons later. i think it says a lot about buffy's desire for paternal stability from a romantic partner, & it's ESPECIALLY interesting when considering her continued pursual of older men.
cordelia casually mentioning her bedridden mom was such a Moment for me! as always, we get these little snippets of a scooby's family life -- though oz is definitely the one we know the least about, cordelia is a close second, and the details we do get are chilling at best. her mom's bedridden in season one, her dad is committing tax fraud in season three...it's not clear if one is meant to read between the lines, but if we do, what we see is a girl who does not have any kind of parental attention outside of the ability to buy what she wants on her daddy's credit card. AND -- as always with the buffyverse -- the background information on these characters comes in through a one-off joke that is both never contradicted and never mentioned again. we're meant to take these moments as factual without taking them seriously.
i spent a lot of time looking at jesse in these episodes, because this is all we get of him, and i'm of the mind that he is incredibly important in a way that the show refuses to acknowledge! this show isn't good with death. we know that. it wants to play a little trick on the viewers with jesse -- make us believe in his importance, then kill him, proving that Anyone Can Die. he's sort of the precursor to jenny, who pulls this off in a way that is better than jesse but still clumsily hindered by the fact that Anyone Can Die really just means Anyone (Not In The Main Scooby Circle) Can Die (And Subsequently Never Get Mentioned Again). thing is, tho, we know nothing about jesse. he feels a little bit like xander if xander were a bit more blandly lecherous and openly into cordelia. the fact that he's xander's best friend is WILD to me when considering how easily the show moves on from his death, especially when we see the way the show is willing to long-form mourn jenny. obviously this is only the first episode, but it's wild to me that joss wanted to do The Jenny Thing, tried to do it with jesse, and didn't quite commit to that idea of killing a significant character & having there be narrative resonance until around a season later. i'm totally going to double back to jesse in the post i make tomorrow about the harvest.
i am also delighted by how many inventive uses of stakes we see in these first two episodes alone! the chair leg, the pool cue, the tree branch...i love that. i really do.

Answers to Dark Academia Asks
Its called I'm bored and I am procrastinating from doing my dissertation (its on medieval Norse dragons btw, I can make a post about it if anyone is interest), so I'm doing these questions. It has probably been years since I've done one of these, so let's learn a bit about me!
ink: favorite dead language?
Old Norse, mostly because its what my studies mostly focus on, though I have a soft spot for Latin, because I studied it throughout middle school and high school.
quill: how would you describe your writing style?
I don't really know. Supposedly its a weird writing style that I need to improve on, according to my professors. One of them told me it reminded them of a "1950s Robin Hood radio play" in some of the phrasings, so lets go with that.
perfume: scent of choice, whether it be a perfume/candle or just in general?
I really like bakery smells, like vanilla and cake and such, but also peach and fruity smells as well. If someone could make a perfume that smells like a peach crumble I'd be all set!
parchment: what area of philosophy interests you?
None, I've never been really interested in philosophy, sorry!
candles: favorite quote?
Oooooh that's a hard one. But on my page I have "not all those who wander are lost" from Tolkien, so let's go with that one!
raven: what makes you feel most like a “dark academic”?
Despite being online for class, it really helps that I study at an old university. Yesterday I sat in the sun at the ruins of the first monastery in my town, and that felt pretty "dark academic". Otherwise, its when I have to get out a book for my classes that looks like it hasn't been checked out in decades.
pages: do you annotate your books? how do you prefer to annotate them?
I never annotate books that I just read for entertainment. If its for research, I will highlight/underline, put sticky notes in, and occasionally write in.
corduroy: any big past regrets?
In this pandemic, there are a bunch, lol. But mostly its that I didn't do a lot of the traditional stuff that students at my uni do, and now that I'm graduating this year and everything is closed, I have to miss out on them.
violin: favorite composer? favorite piece of classical music?
I don't often listen to classical music, its just not something I gravitate towards. For composers, I really like listening to film scores, especially by Howard Shore and Harry Gregson-Williams. Anything fantasy is usually up my alley.
teapot: how do you take your tea or coffee?
I really like infusion teas, which I know someone will tell me that doesn't really count. But I just always like having a red berry tea with one or two sugars. For coffee, I prefer iced, and will get an iced caramel latte if I'm ordering it, but will just have a hot coffee with milk and sugar if I'm at home, because it's easier.
library: preferred study environment?
I love studying in cafes! I find that staying in the library too long makes me less productive, so I like sitting at a table in a dark cafe, having a coffee and being able to get work done while still having people talking and music playing around me.
wood: what does your ideal future look like?
While I would love to be part of some monster hunting/occult secret society, I don't think that's a possibility. I want to go into academia, hopefully being a professor, but would also be interested in working in museums and archives as well!
leather: favorite book(s)? what makes them special?
Anything by Tolkien will probably top my list because I have always had a special connection to Middle Earth that I can't really explain. I also love Narnia, His Dark Materials, Howl's Moving Castle, etc. etc.
canvas: is there any work of art that resonates with you? why?
Anything that's Pre-Raphaelite or Romantic, I just find that art style so beautiful and magical, especially because they tend to have very mythological/legendary themes to them that I appreciate.
capelet: quintessential piece of dark academia clothing?
A black turtleneck. I wear way too many turtlenecks in general, but growing up I watched the History Channel where every historian wore a black turtleneck. So now as a historian, I love wearing black turtlenecks haha!
feather: favorite poet? favorite piece of poetry?
I know this might be controversial, but I just don't really like poetry! I like reading epic poems like the Aeneid, Beowulf, etc., but for some reason I've just never gotten into modern poetry. If anyone has any recommendations let me know!
shadow: what makes you feel nostalgic?
Carving pumpkins, sitting outside on the porch in the summer, baking cookies with my mom.
sandalwood: what plants/flowers would you like to have in your study?
I want so many plants, but I just don't have a green thumb! I would love to have some small plants dotted around my study and propagating plants along the windowsills if I thought I could keep them alive. Maybe I should just start with a cactus.
clock: early bird or night owl?
Neither? I guess in the summer I become more of an early bird, but I like mid-morning to early afternoon time more than anything. Or late afternoon as the sun is setting!
pressed flowers: have you every fallen in love? out of love?
Yes to both.
orchestra: describe the songs on your most played playlist
Currently that playlist is a Buffy x Spike playlist because I started binge-watching BTVS but now I just listen to it because its got a lot of songs about illicit romance, unrequited feelings, etc. that is just really nice to listen to.
fire: which of the seven deadly sins do you find yourself leaning towards?
.....pride.....
tweed: any languages you want to learn/are learning?
I am currently learning Old Norse, Old English, and am re-teaching myself Latin. I would like to continue to learn Middle English and Welsh which I have taken breaks from. I need to learn German and/or French for PhD applications next fall. And I think it would be cool to know Ancient Egyptian and read hieroglyphs. Is that enough?
dust: biggest fears?
The typical answer of failure. I'll tell you though that I have an irrational phobia of the ocean and whales specifically. If anyone can explain that, I'd love to know!
silence: do you consider yourself to be a good secret keeper?
100%. Plus, I like knowing what everyone's secrets are, because I just think its interesting.

Why Erasure of Representation is so problematic - on the example of Bi-Erasure (feat. BTVS)
Seriously, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of my favorite TV series ever. However, that doesn’t mean it’s perfect to me.
I think one of the first things I would change about the series is Willow’s status as a lesbian - and not in the sense that I’d make her straight, but in the sense that I’d officially confirm her to be bisexual instead of lesbian.
Before Tara (who is my favorite character in the show by the way) came along, Willow was in a relationship with Oz, which she was clearly enjoying on both the romantic side of things and the sexual side as well. That... Just doesn’t seem lesbian to me, sorry. Someone who can be attracted to two genders is bisexual (someone who is attracted to more than two is polysexual and someone who is attracted to any gender is pansexual) and sure, they can have preferences, but it doesn’t erase the fact that they can be attracted to another gender as well.
Please note that I don’t want to bash the series with this. As I said, it’s one of my favorite series of all time and it actually does a lot of things right when it comes to LGBTQ+ representation in my opinion (such as writing characters that are defined on other things than their sexuality). This is just the one thing I have issues with.
So, if you want to watch me ranting about bi-erasure, and by extension poly- and pan-erasure, you can do that in the Keep Reading section.
As someone who is actually bi / pan (I’m still figuring out), I gotta say: bi-erasure in fandom and media is an issue, as is poly-erasure and pan-erasure. I’ve talked about this previously in a posting about the bi-erasure when it comes to Edelgard von Hresvelg from FE3H (who is confirmed by canon to be bisexual, but still treated as a lesbian by a large part of the fanbase). I have already touched on Willow in said posting as well.
And before I talk any further, let me first clarify what bi-/poly-/pan-erasure is: it is basically the process of erasing the bi-/poly-/pan-part of a character’s sexuality by declaring them straight or, which seems to be more common, gay / lesbian - or even more simple: declaring that a character who is attracted to two or more genders is only attracted to one gender (and treating this as canon).
However, after rewatching BTVS and researching some production details, I not only noted how similar Edelgard is to Glory (come on, both are overconfident badasses wearing red dresses), but also that the bi-part of Willow’s sexuality was pretty much erased. Not only within the series itself (which would have been fine if Willow had actually been confused about her sexuality and that’s why she declared herself to be a lesbian - however, this is not what happened), but by the writers as well, who even said that they wanted to “keep Willow gay” at one point.
Listen: I have nothing against lesbian characters at all. As I said before, Tara Maclay (who is a lesbian) is actually my favorite character in the series. But if a character is bisexual, then refer to them as bi, and don’t erase the bi-part by claiming they’re straight, gay or lesbian. The same goes for polysexual characters and pansexual characters.
And I get that gays and lesbians want to be represented properly in (popular) media. Trust me, there is nothing wrong with it. However, just as much as gays and lesbians do, bisexual individuals, poly sexual individuals and pan sexual individuals also strive for proper representation.
This is why the erasure of any minority representation is such a big problem: because it takes the representation that’s already there away from us again. It’s the same problem as with whitewashing or declaring any LGBTQ+ character to be cis and / or hetero. The only difference with turning an obviously bisexual character into a lesbian character is that you turn a character representing a minority into a character representing another minority. Which might not be as problematic as the two former examples, but it is still a problem in my opinion. Or at least it is as long as people of the minority claiming a character are so overprotective of their own representation that they start huge shitstorms as soon as a member of another minority takes one of their representative characters and turns them into a representation of their own minority. If it was all same rights for everyone, then it wouldn’t be problematic in the slightest, at least in my opinion.
And no - the argument that “only gays and lesbians face discrimination over their sexuality” is not a valid argument in my opinion. It’s a common misconception that bisexual people, polysexual people and pansexual peop,e don’t have to fight with the same issues as gays and lesbians. Which is only partly true because we also face discrimination and rude comments. Here are some I got after coming out as bisexual:
“So you’re just flirting with everyone that comes your way? Wow, you’re a whore!”
“Can’t you just decide on being straight or being lesbian?”
“You just want to get your piece of cake from gay rights without actually being gay.”
“So you’re on the right way! Bet I can help you with this turning straight thing.”
Bonus: that one comment I got from someone I trusted when I talked to them because I thought that I might actually be poly- or pansexual:
“Wait. You’re not a pedophile, are you?”
... Remember, guys. “Minor” is not a gender.
Gays and lesbians undoubtedly face a huge amount of discrimination based on their sexuality as well, arguing about that is not the point I want to make. The point is that bisexual individuals, polysexual individuals and pansexual individuals also face discrimination based on their sexuality, not only by people who are not part of the LGBTQ+ community, but from people within the same community as well: the second quote and the third quote were both said to me by people who are homosexual. In a place that was not reserved for homosexual people only.
Another point why this erasure is so problematic is the fact that it makes it more difficult to inform people about bi-/poly-/pansexuality and what is actually means. People are more likely to be comfortable with people of those sexualities if they see them depicted as normal people and / or awesome characters in the media - because it takes the feeling of unfamiliarity away. Our primal instincts tell us that anything that’s unfamiliar could be dangerous - which is partly how any discrimination develops. I’m going to finish this argument up with a quote:
“Anything we know about the world, we know through the media.” - Niklas Luhmann, German sociologist
And yes, the internet and therefore fancommunities can be considered media in a sense. So if the media tells us “hey, bisexuality doesn’t exist because we can easily make those characters straight / lesbian / gay”, then people are more likely to assume that no, bisexuality doesn’t exist for real. However, if the media told us “hey, there are people who are attracted to more than one gender! They’re totally normal”, then bisexual people, polysexual people and pansexual people would likely face less discrimination. The same of course goes for gays and lesbians, as well as really any minority.
And this is essentially why erasure of minority representation from (popular) media in general (not just bi-/poly-/pan-erasure) is problematic: because if the media doesn’t show it, people don’t know anything about it. It’s unfamiliar to them, which means that it could be potentially dangerous. This then leads to discrimination.
So yes, we need more good representation of any minority in my opinion. Not just representation of bisexuality, polysexuality and pansexuality, but good representation of gays and lesbians, representation of members of different ethnicities and cultures, and of course representation of people with disabilities and lower income as well.
That being said, the original BTVS was made almost two decades ago. Back then, it were different times, and the existence bisexuality wasn’t as widely known of as it is today. Willow Rosenberg is still an amazing character. However, should the rumors be true and there is going to be a remake - I’m not going to be mad if they decide that Willow should be a lesbian and have partners that are exclusively female. Even though I’d rather see Willow coming out as bisexual with a preference for women in a remake, not gonna lie.

Fight Scene Appreciation
I rarely take note of fight scenes. Generally, they're just a series of beats—punch, punch, kick, wave to the stunt double, punch, kick, stake—that are of little interest to me. But I wanted to gush a little about the fight sequence in Two to Go in which Spike fights the Walking Action Figure. It just feels a cut above the rest in terms of choreography, combatants, editing and production value.
Tumblr media
Aesthetically, it's just a beautifully crafted scene. The direction is full of nice touches: the Action Figure appearing silently in back of frame and the blocking around the cave's central pillar. Set, lighting, makeup and VFX are all on pointe. Shadows dance prettily across James Marsters's abs. The flames are a well-executed effect. The demon in the background lurks with suitable gravelly voiced menace. And, most significantly for me (and atypically for BtVS), the stunt double isn't hugely visible. James Marsters does the majority of the fight and the few frames of the stunt double are well buried.
The power balance feels right too; the Walking Action Figure isn't so powerful that a Spike win seems entirely improbable. But the opponent is visibly bigger and stronger, and he's got fists of fire... which feels a wee bit like cheating. Essentially, the stakes are high—it's a kill or be killed situation—and the baddie has an unfair advantage. It's a simple, well-crafted conflict.
Tumblr media
Lastly, the fight mechanics—the moves themselves: grabbing the burning fist, the kick to the kidneys and the neck-breaking—all feel like they reflect and illuminate character. They're not just generic fight beats; they're scrappy and inherently Spike-ish.
Worth noting that Doug Petrie wrote this scene and also wrote what I think is the best fight scene in the entire run of the show—Nicki Woods vs Punk Spike on the NY subway. Clearly Petrie could write the stuffing out of a fight sequence.

Rec: The Silver and the Skulls
Tumblr media
The silver and the skulls ( words) by phouka Rating: 45432 Warnings: R Fandom: Teen Wolf/Buffy the Vampire Slayer Relationships:Daniel Osbourne (Oz)/Malia, Stiles Stilinski/Lydia Martin,  Scott/McCall/oc, past Stiles Stilnski/Malia Tate, Chris Argent/Melissa McCall Characters: Daniel Osbourne (Oz), Willow Rosenberg, Scott McCall, Stiles Stilinski, Lydia Martin, Chris Argent, Melissa McCall, Nogitsune, Jennifer Blake, Gerard Argent, Kate Argent, Araya Callavera Additional Tags: depictions of torture and abuse Summary: Oz, Willow, Arizay, and Lucy arrive in Beacon Hills to make contact with a rumored True Alpha werewolf. Things get complicated fast. Notes: So the whole “finish the other stories first” plan is not working so well. I will continue to work on them, but Fred keeps handing me stuff from the second half of the Shadow and Light series, and who am I not to accept it? Arizay Fuentes and Lucy Sinclair are original characters of my own creation, Slayerettes who were called to Sunnydale during Season 7 and fought in the Battle of Sunnydale. They are both fully fledged Slayers, champing at the bit for some action. In previous stories, Oz had rejoined the Scooby gang, now in Cleveland, and become a full time Watcher and part time bunny chaser as befits his efforts to fully integrate his human and wolf selves. Willow continues to struggle with defining her own ethos regarding magic while she contributes to the growing Slayers Council. For those of you unfamiliar with Teen Wolf, I can only recommend some quality binge watching on Amazon Prime. I stumbled across it while looking for work by JR Bourne, a favorite, and while I was quite skeptical of a reboot of the Michael J. Fox 80s movie, the production team did a fantastic job creating a town the equal of Sunnydale as a weird danger magnet. The actors, especially Dylan O’Brien, are top notch, and the writing is up there with the best of BtVS. Now, all that being said, I was a little unsatisfied with the second half of Season 6, the last season. So, I’m setting this between the first and second half and derailing the storyline for my own purposes. This far along, there are spoilers for characters and situations that appear in earlier seasons, so if that’s something that bothers you, at least watch through the end of Season 3 before you start this story. I’ll be posting chapters as I finish them, but I have a couple ahead, so you may get updates for the next couple of nights. As always, thank you for your time and attention. ETA: I should have put the following addition in here originally, but apparently, I’m still struggling with the idea that not everybody knows and loves the same stuff that I do. Call it Lessons in Adulting.

tbh i think it’s kind of rude to say things like “it’s so refreshing that florence pugh has a more average body!” like man really? like i get what people mean and yeah ideally we should be body neutral but you know that comes across as a backhanded compliment at best. and it’s not like scarlett johansson is outrageously thin or anything. they’re just women who work out. jesus. also WOULD you say it about a man? in the same way? no. shut up

do you ever notice how some actors are truly despised by a section of the internet when they haven’t really done anything wrong and you’re wondering why and realise it must be to do with the fact that they played a villain in a star wars movie

after a million posts of me complaining on here that people misunderstand the non-issue that abortion is in england the news is now covering a case being heard at the high court aiming to change the law that states foetuses with down’s syndrome can be terminated up until birth. so to make it perfectly clear:
1. women should be able to access abortion for whatever reason
2. even if you feel that reason is discriminatory
3. a foetus does not have rights to protect
4. this has nothing to do with your personal decision not to terminate or with your own child with down’s syndrome that you love and cherish
5. women are not just vessels to bring children into the world
6. it's none of your business why a woman felt she had to terminate a pregnancy and it's not your place to say whether it was a 'morally' correct decision or not.

people are so eager to blame women for everything and you can see it so clearly in the responses to the sarah everard vigil. how is it productive to start your post with the caveat that don’t forget! white middle class feminism in the uk is abhorrent! like wow thanks so much for your nuanced take. how is it kate middleton’s fault that the police were peaceful when she visited during the day but then got aggressive later that night? why jump on yvette cooper’s tweets about the vigil to complain that no senior politicians said similar things about the summer blm protests (the same yvette cooper who chaired the home affairs committee inquiry into racism and policing)? why complain that jess phillips didn’t call for the met police commissioner to resign on her marr appearance this morning even though she said she didn’t want to give cressida dick a(nother) headline on a day we should be talking about sarah everard?
just say you think women can do nothing right and go

P J’s PokéAni Trivia Tuesday #13 (Global Tour edition)
This is part 3 of 5 PTTs digging into some really cool PokéAni facts from all over the world! This week’s global research was MASSIVE! I really wanted to cover as much EU as I can, since I know a lot of people in this fandom coming from Europe, but tried to make my post as minimal as I can! Due to a lot of info I’ve read, I will only mention 1 or 2 facts for each country (except U.K.). Good thing I had 2 weeks to prepare for this, otherwise this thing would have been more stressful to put together. Shoutout to all my European PokéAni peeps reading this! Let’s see if you may or may not know the trivia behind these countries 👀
Pokémon anime in EUROPE
Tumblr media
In the UNITED KINGDOM DID YOU KNOW? The Pokémon anime famously aired on ITV, a public service network station that broadcasts in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
SM:TV Live was a live Saturday morning entertainment show that replace the Who's That Pokémon? segment with small sketches that featured the famous English comedic duo, Ant & Dec as hosts, having their own "PokéFight" and even performed their own Pokérap.
ITV has skipped episodes or canceled airings mid-series. These are planned as the TV guides published over a week before date of transmission reflect this. It commonly happens other animated shows in the line-up such as ReBoot, Cardcaptors, Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh!.
Pokémon has been cancelled prematurely TWICE on different TV channels! Once during the Orange Islands arc, and another just after Pokémon: Advanced started. Neither series has been seen on ITV since.
CN (Cartoon Network) TOO was the channel location for the world premiere of Pokémon Chronicles. The U.K. got their English dubbed The Legend of Thunder! specials first than the U.S. by a year early.
In other EU COUNTRIES DID YOU KNOW?
Tumblr media
In the Netherlands (Ik wil ze allemaal!), Fox Kids announced that it would stop broadcasting Pokémon on March 2001. Around 32,000 complaining children called to Fox Kids in outrage because of this, but it turned out to be an early April Fool’s joke. On April 1st, the channel announced that the 3rd season of the anime would begin airing the same day. GOT’EEM!!!
In Iceland (Þarf að fanga þá!), only the first 54 episodes of the 1st season aired. The first five movies were also dubbed. They pulled the plug on the Icelandic dub due to the lack of popularity it received in the country.
In Finland (Omakseni saan!), it was the first Nordic country to air the Pokémon anime, with Denmark, Norway and Sweden followed shortly in the spring of 2000. While it may have been the first, many episodes of the first couple of seasons in the Finnish dub were not shown (or skipped?) for unknown reasons. In fact, Advanced Challenge was the first ever season to be shown completely in the country, and moving forward after that, every season have been broadcasted entirety as well.
In Sweden (Måste fånga fler!), the Battle Frontier season broadcasted exclusively online via TV4+ and TV4′s site, as it got skipped and did not air after Advanced Battle, going directly to the Diamond & Pearl series.
In the Czech Republic (Všechny chytit máš!), Ash Ketchum’s voice actor was Radek Škvor, who was 10 years old at the time when the series first reached the country. He was same age as his assigned character! Eventually he got replaced by his older brother, Jan Škvor some time during the XY series. Ash may be 10 forever, but not the VAs.
In Belgium, the Pokémon anime is distributed in two dubbed languages: Flanders (Belgian Dutch) and Wallonia (Belgian French).
Tumblr media
In France (Attrapez-les tous!), they had an unprecedented 2-hour special for the first four episodes of the XY series on May 1st 2015 along with a bonus special airing Mega Evolution Special I afterwards. They did ANOTHER 2-hour special on April 13th 2016 with the premier of the first four episodes of the XY&Z season. The French sure do love the Kalos region...I mean isn’t Kalos based on the country of France?
In Greece (Τα θέλω τώρα εδώ! Ta thélo̱ tóra edó̱!), the anime first aired on Star Channel until it moved to Disney XD when they acquired the rights during Diamond & Pearl. Despite this, irregular broadcasts of specials and movies still show on Star Channel, especially during holiday seasons, but the regular series airs exclusively on Disney XD.
In Italy (Acchiappali tutti!), Brock's first Italian VA was Nicola Bartolini Carrassi. Who is Nicola you ask? He is a journalist, anchor, scriptwriter, anime expert, and the man who brought the Pokémon franchise to Italy in the first place. He has been chosen by Warner Bros, 4Kids, Pokémon INC., Nintendo Games Freak and Buena Vista to become the Italian dubbed voice of Brock and he has been praised for his work, even if it was only for 2 seasons. He left the show after the Orange Islands arc.
In Poland (Czy już wszystkie masz?), when the tenth season was dubbed by a new studio, Sun Studio Polska, they decided to ignore the previous cast of the series and choose all new actors for every character. There were a lot of mixed reactions among fans to the sudden recast, but in February 2009 when DP: Battle Dimension started, most of the original cast of the Polish dub were restored.
In Portugal (Vou apanhá-los todos!), the show aired in an irregular pattern, shifting from 6am to 10am, but it always in the same programing block, named LOL@SIC. On a side note, Ash Ketchum had no less than ten different Portuguese VAs over the years. Y I K E S
In Spain (¡Hazte con todos!), Adolfo Moreno has provided the voice of Ash Ketchum in the entire anime. This is quite rare as a lot of foreign dubs, constantly change VAs for their cast, and even the English dub had to recast Ash’s voice after Battle Frontier. One exception is the 3rd Pokémon movie and the Mewtwo Returns special since it had a different VA cast. On another interesting note, there were 2 different dubs for the Pokémon anime in Spain: an Iberian Spanish dub, and a Catalan dub.
Tumblr media
In Norway (Fanger alle nå!), the setting of the Pokémon movie Giratina and the Sky Warrior is based on Norway's nature. Three places were used as inspiration; Sognefjorden, Jostedalsbreen, and Bergen. The scene with the Glacier threatening to destroy the town was based on a little town of Geiranger, which is threatened by a collapsing mountainside in real life! Speaking of other movie trivia, the single Don't Say You Love Me, promoting the official soundtrack worldwide for Pokémon the First Movie, was performed by the Norwegian group M2M.
In Denmark (Jeg ska' fange dem!), the anime took a 3-season break from Danish TV after the episode Charizard Chiils. The series would not return until Address Unown! (with a new cast of voice actors) leaving no explanation as to why the episodes in between were never aired.
In Ireland, there is no Irish dub in the country since over 90% of people there speaks English as their primary language, and what they got was the English dub from the United States. For some reason though, two episodes from the Hoenn saga didn’t air. Specifically speaking the episodes: The Bicker the Better and Who, What, When, Where, Wynaut?.
In Slovakia, only the first four seasons of the anime have been dubbed into Slovak, nothing else after. All the English theme songs were left in their original form, untranslated, however the Pokémon movies had both their opening and ending themes Slovak dubbed.
In Albania (Duhet ti kap!), Pokémon movies were dubbed in Albanian by "Jess" Discographic. This company is recognized for providing "illegal" dubbings of other shows they have done.
In Lithuania, the Pokémon anime debuted the Lithuanian dub at Christmas Eve of 2005 on BTV. The first seven Pokémon movies, on the other hand, aired at different channels, though the dates of their original airings cannot be traced and have gone lost.
Tumblr media
In Germany (Komm und schnapp sie dir!), one of Ash’s German VAs is named Veronika Neugebauer. She shares the same name (sort of) with Verinoca Taylor who is famous for being the original English dub voice actress for Ash. Unfortunately, Neugebauer died during the production of dubbing Diamond & Pearl, and they had to bring back the original German VA for Ash, Caroline Combrinck, who previously quit the show to study in New York City. Ash is currently voiced by, Felix Mayer, Sun & Moon. *Also I want to briefly mention one of the largest German Pokéfan sites: Filb.de. because I have been to that site a lot looking at screen-caps, and even using some of them for my posts (specifically PokéAni Highlights/Rewind). Basically the German Serebii.net!
In Croatia (Fes-te'ls tots teus!), they have dubbed a few Pokémon movies in their language, however the theme music remained in English.
In Romania (Să îi prind pe toți!), the Romanian dub has aired the first 5 seasons in the country, but everything else after that was skipped EXCEPT Diamond & Pearl (Sinnoh League Victors was SKIPPED though), and Sun & Moon which just recently debuted last month (as of this post).
In Serbia (Треба да скупиш све Treba da skupiš sve!), the only seasons to be fully dubbed in Serbian dubbed is the original series and Black & White. Advanced Challenge, and some of Pokémon Chronicles were dubbed as well. In the very few Pokémon movies they have dubbed, the opening and ending themes remained in English.
In Bulgaria (Да ги уловим! Da gi ulovim!), the anime was originally broadcasted on Nova Television, but eventually made the jump to Disney Channel Bulgaria. Some other countries air the series on Disney as well, so I guess America wasn’t the first country to make the jump, huh?
In Russia (Всех их соберём! Vsekh ikh soberyom!), after the first 104 episodes of the original series were shown, the Pokémon anime was not broadcasted in Russia for SEVEN years. Many Russian fans wrote to TV channels asking them to bring back the anime. Countless rumors of why the ORT channel pulled the anime off air included: newspapers and the yellow press pressuring the station to cancel the show for showing “offensive” content, while some say that Pokémon was “brainwashing children with subliminal stimuli”. ORT was worried about its reputation, so they stopped airing Pokémon, and that they couldn’t make an agreement on the price of licensing the anime with the Japanese creators. On September 20th 2008, the Pokémon anime made its miraculous return to Russian television via the TNT channel, where they premiered the first episode of the Diamond & Pearl series.
