BurdaStyle October 2022
The mod dress in a bold print of greens, reds and creams illustrates the principle that a print can obliterate  details in a garment because you can’t make them out easily. Dress 121 A  has an interesting neckline created by a front center seam and then a band that creates a kind of keyhole at the top. The dress flares slightly towards the hemline while bust darts fit it to the body, and the set-in sleeves are pleated where the meet the cuffs. That neckline will have more of an impact in a solid-color.
Another interesting detail appears in the Blouse 129 which comes in plus sizes. The sleeves, which are gathered at the shoulder and ruffled at the hemline, contain an inset of a sheer fabric as well. While they did it in a bold red and a sheer print, you can imagine all kinds of combinations of solid with sheer fabrics. I can imagine a regal gold satin with a sheer fabric to match for evening wear.
Coat 122 in beige is one of their Designer Styles, but it seems to lack front  buttons save the one added at the lapel, so it is for wearing in warmer climates. A double-breasted coat with buttons is your best option for really cold weather.
Coat 108 is a Masterpiece item which means something that takes time and skill that you will want to wear for years. Here that means matching the large plaid and putting in welt pockets, adding a full lining, etc.  The other Masterpiece items are the long vest, Gilet 114 for which there is a full sewing lesson, the short Jacket 109 and the Jacket 130 which comes in plus sizes and has asymmetrical zipper.
The other full sewing lesson is for the miniskirt 116 which has no waistband but an exterior belt. Otherwise the sewing instructions are un-illustrated although certain techniques are explained with illustrations in the Glossary. As usual, you need to copy tracings of the patterns, which are all included in multiple sizes, on the sheets there they are printed on top of one another using different colored lines. This means you spend time but not so much money for a fair number of patterns. The dog stuff includes, a bone, a blanket, a collar, lead, and bandana, plus a bag to put bags in, or you could use your pockets like I do. ;-)
You can find it you local sewing store, local newsstand or bookstore or onlinehere: https://www.burdastyle.com/subscription-burda-style.html

You can also purchase individual PDF patterns in addition to a subscription. My Image is a pattern magazine with a focus on on-trend fashion and style. Ottobre is a Finnish magazine that prints 6 times a year two of those issues center around women’s wear, the other four focus on children’s patterns. They have a cool, fashion forward vibe judging from the website I can’t read.Īnother primarily pattern magazine, Patrones is Spanish and offers an international subscription for $132.50. You can buy individual issues here, but not sure about subscription rates since my Italian is non-existent. La Mia Boutique is an Italian publication featuring numerous sewing patterns every month. With all the different Burdastyle websites per country it’s a bit of a confusing mess so I can’t find the annual price in the UK, but they also sell individual magazines here. There was a US edition but that seems to be have ended, so North Americans have to subscribe to the UK edition for $90 (US) and $130 (Canada). Selvedge is interesting it’s focused more on textiles than sewing but it looks beautiful! It’s released 6 times a year and is available in print or digital for £50.00.īurdastyle is a less of a magazine and more of a mini pattern library each month. Sew Magazine is another UK magazine with a mix of fashion and home sewing, and a column by GBSB judge May Martin. Simply Sewing features modern sewing projects with a more contemporary edge they feature a lot of indie designers like By Hand London and Tilly & the Buttons. Mollie Makes is less sewing oriented and more general DIY lifestyle magazine  the design and feeling is sweet and modern. Subscriptions are £53.49 (UK) and $108.99 (US and international). They are currently offering a copy of Gertie’s new book with an annual subscription. Love Sewing is fashion sewing oriented with a modern point of view and includes numerous garment patterns with each issue. UK & EUROPEAN SEWING MAGAZINESįor some reason there are way more sewing magazines out of the UK than anywhere else! Makes a North American jealous. Annual subscriptions are $22.95 (US) and $24.95 (Canada). Vogue Sewing Magazine is a division of McCalls/Vogue patterns and features articles construction, fit and fashion. Subscriptions for the print edition are $21.98 (US), $27.98 (Canada) and $33.98 (international). Also check out its sister publication Sew It All magazine, which I believe is connected to the television show of the same name. Totally worth it.Ī bi-monthly magazine from F+W Media, Sew News features a mix of home, accessory and fashion sewing they now feature exclusive PDF patterns and video tutorials with indie designers like Christine Haynes. With a bi-monthly circulation, subscriptions are available in print or digital format. They have the best techniques and tutorials, and even the advertising offers up new companies to check out. While the fashion and styling doesn’t always speak to me, it’s my absolute favourite place to get in-depth, detailed information on garment sewing from the leaders of the industry. That little thrill you get when you see it waiting for you in your mailbox is priceless, and there is something real and lasting about taking the time and turning the page, rather than the ceaseless onslaught of online data 24/7. In that spirit, I encourage you to pick a sewing or craft magazine this year and actually buy a subscription. And how else will we get to see Kenneth King demonstrating sleeve fit in hip hop pants?! We all know the magazine industry is suffering, and it seems like every other month a craft magazine is shutting down its for this reason that I started subscribing to Threads. We can’t expect these publications to survive if we don’t support them.
#French burda magazine Patch
This year I rediscovered the simple pleasure of a magazine subscription no tablet, no screen, just me, a cup of tea and an hour or two in a patch of late afternoon sunshine while I dog-ear pages and jot down ideas.

I bought the new Burda Style for October and i´m really pleased with the sewing patterns. The last months the magazine became quite boring...but this month is amazing. I love the coat and jacket patterns. And the dresses and blouses...haha.

June 2020 BurdaStyle Magazine
June 2020 BurdaStyle Magazine
The June issue has been posted to the German and Russian Burda sites. Normally June isn’t one of my favorite issues of the year, but I actually think there are some interesting things to look at in this issue – at least in terms of trends and popular styles that are coming out this summer. As always there’s a lot to see, so let’s take a look!

The summer issues typically don’t have a lot of…

French Chic: 6 Plus Size Patterns
Elegant and oh, so relaxed… These newly interpreted classics in red and midnight blue from the 09/2018 issue of BurdaStyle magazine are a splash of nonchalance and irresistible fashion charm.
The perfect mix of serious and relaxed – typical French fashion. This trench dress includes shoulder tabs, lapels and a tying band at the waist. Choosing to sew it in a midnight blue cotton is a crowning touch. A blouse or top worn underneath on cooler days makes it a winner for the changing seasons as a simple top is a great option for the waning warm days in between.
Mini pleats at the shoulder cap are a beautiful accent on this dress at the shoulder line and the swinging skirt gets a boost from the flowing viscose fabric. Style tip: Add an extra accent at the drawn-in waistline with a wide belt.
Get a stretch to the look of the legs with these ankle skimming, slightly tapered to the hem trousers. The wide waistband gets decorated with tabs and sophisticated golden buttons.
Today a peek of the shoulder, tomorrow a bit of decolleté: This top with the XL collar is flex to follow your mood and style. The simple lines of the cut also make it a great choice for beginning sewists.
Overcut shoulders are very flattering for this style with the matching tying belt. It is a comfortable style that simply works for every shape. The delicate stripes are a pleasant alternative to a classic maritime look.
This basic shirt sewn with a soft jersey is versatile and quick to sew. Wear it with or without the self-belt, or wear it partially tucked into the trouser band for a cool look.
All eyes are on you with this lightly tailored caban jacket in a radiant red wool. Panel seam pockets and a walking slit in back are practical – and comfortable extras. A tab sewn into the back panel seams adds some extra shape.
Make ALL these plus size styles with the discounted pattern collection bundle here!

BurdaStyle, August 2022
It is fall according to the world of sewing pattern, no matter the temperature near me is hitting records highs today. So, put aside those summer patterns, and take a look at the new ones from BurdaStyle.
This issue offers us 4 tailored, master pieces, all lined, all of which are 4 out of 4 for difficulty, but all worth the effort for a garment you keep for years: the trench coat #124, a long wool coat which they show in a camel color #106, the motorcycle jacket #121, and blazer #112 which you see in the black and grey jacquard. This blazer is fitted with multiple darts and side panel pieces as well as two-piece sleeves and welt pockets and lapels. A single outside button and an inside snap close the double-breasted and pleated front. Its fit and cut will make most of a hour-glass figure, and my only hesitation is that I often like to button and unbutton my jackets throughout the work day and double-breasted cuts can look odd unbuttoned. Still, it is a snappy and tempting style. So is the more casual motorcycle jacket which you see in a mushroom-colored imitation leather which is fitted with a short peblum and zippered pockets and front closing. There is an additional page of instructions on sewing leather.
One of the full sewing lessons is on the long dress # 110 with midriff bodice piece and the deep v-neck and flared skirt that you see in polka dots, the other is the asymmetrical faux-knotted knit top # 108. Both it and blouse # 109 which is a button-up shirt with an asymmetrical piece “tie-band” which ties over the waist, are the kind of novelty pieces which will make people wonder “What is going on with that top?” So if you don’t mind being the object of some confusion, go ahead and try them. I like more the plus-size top # 131 with an asymmetrical collar tie which they show in a stripe.
Dress #114 is an interesting take on the sheath dress with a keyhole type neckline which would be great for office work with a jacket or cardigan and then nice for dinner on its own.
All of the patterns are included in a range of sizes as coded lines printed over one another on several large master pattern sheets. You must trace them onto other paper and add seam allowances and hem allowances. All have basic un-illustrated instructions and an additional “glossary” explains various techniques used such as putting in an invisible zipper, adding linings, etc. A lot of sewing instructions and a lot of patterns for the money. I am looking forward to fall.

The more pure the more fashion, the latest women effect chart!
Tumblr media
This series, collected from the May 2017 issue of BurdaStyle magazine, is pure chic pattern  , consisting of a linen and rope tank tops, a wrapped dress and a cool skirt.
                                         It's a pure chic pattern.
Tumblr media
The hip tibia adds an extra figure shape element to the trimmed trousers, placing the hem width at random. The details are different-there are big pockets and big buttons, intended to get attention.
Tumblr media
It looks at the hip sweep of fashion, though it is cleverly designed for perfect fit. Knee-length skirts take a relaxed look from the immersed folds and long bundles.
Tumblr media
Leisure and so cool is this hooded set inlay panel includes an integrated hood and is cut into a longitudinal fringe of visual focus. The pulling ropes are finished with leather at both ends.
Tumblr media
Quiet fashion form! The back length of this Hari is a tall female proportion. Use extra bust to keep the neckline on the front of the chest. Style tip: Add a little bit of body and shorts by selecting a different fabric (color or pattern).
Tumblr media
Although it looks complicated, it can be done in a weekend, even if it is a sewing machine that wants to increase skills. The dress was sewn on a very soft knit sweater in a round coat. The effect attracts interest and defines a beautiful shape in the waistline.
Tumblr media
Whether it's brunch, shopping or partying all on your list, sexy bandeau top works for every occasion. Folds add a depth to the deep red bark wrinkles. The design features a tight chest belt and elasticity to avoid any slippage and provides some support.
Tumblr media
Very clever! The hip tank is adjusted by weaving the front and back of the eyelet strap and then knotted. Add elements of surprise by choosing contrasting lines or using satin to bring romantic touch. Paired with pants, it has a relaxed jumpsuit style.
Tumblr media
Length panels and straps and knotted in front or back all makes this shirt a stylish highlight of the hierarchy.
Tumblr media
Part of the maritime, part of haute couture. A loose, sloping pocket in front of the wig coat also includes a back sticker. We pull through the belt ring to get a sense of the whole.
Tumblr media
Many stylish potentials are also a perfect sewing for the last minute. The top of line A has straps, so it can be adjusted and worn as needed. If the trim is too short for your liking, just extend the hem-even make it long enough for a mini dress ...
Tumblr media
A hip-length dress can cut off a great figure even in the height of the summer. The sleeves and neckline are finished with fabric strips. Style tip: For those who like to have a grand admission at night, this style is absolutely chic.
Tumblr media
The hem of the skirt and the oblique cut of the skirt are the details that support the drape of this breeze and the soft trimmed sleeve dress. This version is stitched with popular man's classic striped shirt fabric.

🇬🇧 Hello! I did my today's look, 17th May, during my easter holidays. I worked the entire vacations on that jacket, It was the first time I did a garment with lining on my own. :) I am really proud of the final result, despite the fact that I have some issues with the fabric during the confection. But I am the only one who knows that :P. The pattern can be found in the Burda's february magazine, 101 Model. . . .🇪🇸 ¡Hola!
