#but then with the Layton mission she proves herself

hi!! very excited about your next batch! but i was wondering if you ever think of posting some of the (wonderful) female!mav scenes you wrote (the question mark on my computer decided to stop working but this is indeed a question)
have a great weekend!!
yeah sure! again— this isn’t finished and never will be finished, I posted the reasons below. But here are a bunch of snippets from the fem!mav/lesbian charliemav AU from this summer. Would love to hear your thoughts, because politically it gave me some pause! lol.
1. On how mav survives (the central motif of the one-shot is Mav cutting her hair with scissors which is why the emphasis here)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. On ice (straight icemav will never work because fundamentally ice is a misogynistic cunt)
Tumblr media
3. on sex with girly girls (one of life’s greatest pleasures)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ehhh you get the picture of what’s under the cut
4. on charliemav
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. on charlie
Tumblr media
7. The end (post Layton mission [mav proving herself by saving ice’s life] and the end of TG86, Mav gearing up to cut her hair again in Charlie’s house)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and here, copy-pasted, were the tags i planned to affix to the charliemav one-shot, which I think explain also why I stopped writing it—maverick is insanely out of character here!
“some discussion of issues that would affect a female pilot in the 1980s in this one: SA, sexism, etc. u have been warned / i would love to talk to anyone about the politics of this one cause hoo boy i had to think about it / it’s a little personal to me too / i wouldn’t necessarily say i struggle with my gender identity but i do have a really complicated relationship with it / i think this mav is incredibly out of character / it turns out mav’s thoughtless overperformance of masculinity is so ingrained into his character that / if you make it intentional he/she turns into an entirely different character. / i often struggle with writing maverick way way too bitter (there’s something very gentle about tgm mav I struggle replicating) / & this is a VERY bitter & cynical & calculating mav as well. she has to be. But i fear i lose some of mav’s original character in the cynicism. 🤷🏽‍♀️ / that’s why i struggle writing AUs—you lose so much of the original characters who are DEFINED by the stories they’re from / if that makes sense. / i think a female maverick isn’t maverick. / you might as well be writing original fiction at that point. / this 1 shot is pretty much just original fiction. / idk would love to hear ppls thoughts on the fandom philosophy behind AUs / something i would love to think about more / top gun fanfiction / charlotte charlie Blackwood / pete maverick mitchell / Tom iceman kazansky/ nick goose bradshaw / genderbent top gun / charliemav / in this universe mav and Charlie break up and mav gets back together with Penny according to the tgm timeline btw / TGM mav might as well be a lesbian like nothing really has to change in the script at all. / post 2010 tom cruise just gives lesbian. no change necessary / soundtrack for this one is ‘I have a woman inside my soul’ by yoko ono”
I also stopped writing this one because I could not for the life of me figure out how to write goose, canonically a sexist just like mav and ice. made things difficult and a little awkward

the girl in the tower
Flora Reinhold never left the tower. The writers wouldn’t let her.
I’m not writing this essay to say Flora does not have agency. In fact, she actually has a lot of it. Layton offers her the choice to come with him; it is up to her whether to lay St. Mystere to rest; and she is never forced to come along on the adventures, it is always her decision. Even before she’s left St. Mystere and left behind being the Golden Apple, she’s around haunting the narrative -- it’s not as though she had no choice while being trapped in the tower.
The Rapunzel archetype tends to be imprisoned. Flora was not being forced to stay in the village. She could have physically left. It was emotional attachment and a sense of obligation that imprisons her, which can be just as much a force as a person. And, of course, Flora had to be there, for the sake of the plot. They frame Flora leaving the village as Layton giving her freedom, but she’s not free.
The tower was destroyed. She was supposed to no longer be the girl in the tower; there wasn’t even a tower for her to return to.
The thing about girls in towers is that their agency is constantly called into question by the people that built the towers and the others around them. Still, it was Rapunzel’s choice to let her hair down for the prince, and it was Flora’s choice to leave with Layton and Luke.
So who built the tower?
Bruno may have built St. Mystere’s tower, but the writers are the reason Flora was even in the tower in the first place. And even though they destroyed it, they never really let her leave.
Despite all the examples at the beginning of this that demonstrate Flora’s agency, Flora’s ability to fend for herself is constantly questioned by Layton and Luke -- the narrator and the protagonist.
This isn’t the main problem, however. It’s that the narrative proves them right for questioning it by kidnapping Flora. Not once, but twice. The writers acknowledge that Flora is abandoned, that it is wrong for them to abandon her just because they think she’s less capable.
But they won’t let her leave the tower they’ve built. Diabolical Box treats Flora’s rescue as a secondhand thought rather than a mission objective, but Unwound Future actively makes rescuing Flora the priority. She is stuck in the tower again, and so she must be saved.
You can take the girl from the tower, but you cannot take the tower from the girl. Flora is constrained by her role in the narratives the writers constructed. The adventures were designed for Layton and Luke, after all. They let her break free for a bit where it fits -- they need her on the train, they need her in Future London, they need her to foreshadow her own presence in the tower. They need her to have some freedom, but only as far as it goes to serve the plot. They need someone in the party for Don Paolo to imitate so he can get to Folsense; they need someone expendable for Clive to take.
Flora is the girl in the tower; she is made to be imprisoned. She was supposed to be free of it, but the writers never freed her from the tower. She will always be the Golden Apple, the Mysterious Girl, the Rapunzel looking for someone that will save her in the eyes of the story. Her purpose in the narrative is not as a third investigator to the Layton and Luke dynamic. Her purpose in the narrative of Diabolical Box and Unwound Future is just as it was in Curious Village; to be imprisoned and then set free by Layton and Luke.
She is never given a chance to exist beyond that.

Who are Stachenscarfen and Granny Riddleton?
Tumblr media
Granny Riddleton and Stachenscarfen are the most mysterious characters in the entire Layton series.
Despite appearing in every game, we still know nothing about them.
Who are they? What do they want? Where did they come from?
After a lot of thinking, I have a few theories about their true identities that seem to make sense.
This will be quite long so please bear with me.
Firstly, let's discuss Granny Riddleton.
Don't be alarmed but she is a robot.
This is pretty much confirmed in her profile at the end of Curious Village.
Tumblr media
So Granny Riddleton was definitely created by Bruno. But that's not all. Bruno did not build just one Granny. He built multiple. Potentially hundreds.
This is why she never seems to recognise Layton and Luke and can be found in every place they go.
My theory is that you can tell them apart by the different colour clothes they wear.
Tumblr media
So the Granny you meet in St Mystere is different to the Granny on the Molentary Express, who is different to the Granny who adopted Puzzlette as her granddaughter.
As for the Granny in the prequels, we'll get to her later.
So, why would Baron Reinhold get Bruno to make hundreds of identical elderly woman robots?
Granny Riddleton says why herself: Her job is to find all the lost puzzles and store them in her house.
This isn't just because she loves puzzles so much, this is so she can find somebody to solve them.
Augustus Reinhold didn't want Flora to have to wait years for a puzzle solver to discover St Mystere. So he created hundreds of "fairy godmothers" to travel the world. They would find puzzles and challenge people to solve them.
Those who proved themselves would be invited to the village to find the Golden Apple.
At some point a Granny wearing orange heard of Professor Layton.
She followed him from Misthillary, to Monte d'Or to London.
She made sure to keep hidden from him, and was very impressed with his puzzle solving abilities.
Not only did he solve every puzzle she found, he solved her most challenging puzzles with ease. She shared her findings with the others and Layton was given an invitation to St Mystere.
With their mission complete, some Grannies chose to retire. Some chose to start families. And some continued to collect puzzles.
Now Stachenscarfen
He's a little more difficult to identify. It's never stated if he is a robot or human. However, since Granny Riddleton is confirmed to be a robot, I'll bet he is one too. Either that or an omnipotent god who wanders the Earth.
Unlike our dear Granny, there is only one Stachenscarfen. He's one of a kind.
Stachenscarfen is a mystery to everyone, even to the fellow residents of St Mystere. This suggests to me that he is a newer robot. I like to think he appeared the same day Layton did.
Tumblr media
Stachenscarfen is really no different to the other villagers at first. He shows up in random places, he offers hints, he gives puzzles, etc.
It's only after Curious Village that things start getting strange.
Stachenscarfen leaves St Mystere, the only robot to do so. No matter where Layton goes, he is always there. Why?
Well, that's his purpose.
To follow Layton?
No.
To follow Flora.
Stachenscarfen was built to keep an eye on Flora, to make sure she is being looked after. He follows Layton to make sure he is doing a good job.
He doesn't want to undermine Layton's role as her guardian, he just looks out for them from afar. Maybe even reporting back to the village.
If Granny Riddleton is the fairy godmother who found Flora a new family, Stachenscarfen is the weird uncle who hides in the tree behind her school.
It's worth noting that, despite doing the same thing as Stachenscarfen, Aldus is not a robot. He follows Layton around because he loves him.
By the time Layton's Mystery Journey arrives, Flora has grown up and no longer needs two cryptic guardians. But that doesn't mean they are retired. There's somebody else they're watching over:
Tumblr media
Some extra thoughts:
Stachenscarfen and Granny Riddleton changed their appearance over the years to seem as though they are aging. They don't want too much attention.
Stachenscarfen would have not shut down with the rest of the villagers if Flora took the money. He's special.
Anytime Granny mentions hanging out with "the girls" she's talking about the other versions of herself. And when she goes on vacation, she's actually returning to St Mystere for repairs.
Stachenscarfen's appearance and personality is very similar to the late Baron. Perhaps Bruno designed him as a tribute to his old friend.
TL;DR: Granny Riddleton and Stachenscarfen are two robots built by Bruno with very important jobs. Granny Riddleton travelled the world to find a suitable guardian for Flora and Stachenscarfen watches over her after she left the village with Layton.

Snowpiercer star Daveed Diggs teases 'badass' season 3
"It's not going very well!" reveals Diggs. "At the end of season 2, the trains were split apart, and Layton and his band of rebels are on this small pirate train, that is only ten cars long, and are trying to complete Melanie's mission of finding warm spots where people might be able to live outside of the train. The sort-of math that they are relying on is proving to be not necessarily playing out, the theory has not yet been proven when we meet them. So, yeah, they're in a tricky situation but trying to remain hopeful and continuing from spot to spot, tyring to look for places where they might be able to live."
Below, Diggs talks more about the season, the delights and travails of making these latest episodes, and how the cast have been entertaining themselves while shooting the show in Vancouver (two words: dance party).
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What has been happening on the other train in the six months before the start of season 3?
DAVEED DIGGS: Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean) has taken over again and has reshaped things, reclaimed his old authoritarianism regime, and is making sure that he's very well taken care of, and sapping a lot of the resources. But [he] is also being a very charismatic leader, which he's always been very good at, but also presenting himself as aspirational in a way that is I think one of the potentially frightening things about dictators. He believes that as long as he is presenting as the person who is the fly-est, suavest, best-speaking member of the train, that is how you keep people hopeful enough to keep surviving and providing resources to the train.
What can viewers expect this season?
The show was already on 11, I think, so I guess maybe it's on 12 this season. So many things happen. There's a ton of action, but what I liked about shooting this season was that there are a lot of big, emotional, character-driven revelations that happen in some of the most action-packed moments. There's a great storyline between Layton and Josie (Katie McGuinness), and how their relationship is shifting or adapting, based on Layton maybe having a child and how that's going to work out. A lot of the moments that they have to talk about that are while they're doing some completely extreme thing, on some crazy mission. I like that about this season, that there's an effort to keep the emotional journeys alive even in the action-y moments. There's some new sets that are pretty cool, there's some new characters introduced that I can't talk about, but there's a lot of fun discoveries this season. There's a lot of new stuff. For people who have been watching the show, you haven't seen it all.
One of the new cast members is Archie Panjabi, can you say anything about her character, or Archie herself?
She's fantastic. I mean, what a great, great, great actress, and such a great human, and so much fun to be around. I don't think I can talk much about her character, but it's a great addition to the story.
One of the producers revealed last year that the character of Melanie will be returning this season. Will we have to wait long for that?
Uh, honestly, I have no idea. I haven't seen anything, so I don't know. We shoot out of order, so who knows? I can't reveal in what capacity she is returning.
If you don't mind me saying, that is the answer of a man desperate not to get in trouble.
They can fire me!
Is there a particular moment that springs to mind when you think of shooting season 3?
There was a lot of movie magic happening this season in ways that there weren't before, because [they were] trying to up the ante on stunts, but also on locations and sets and stuff. There are a lot of things this season that look really badass on the final side of it and that shooting them is the least badass-looking thing. I'm so excited for it all to come out so I can release the behind-the-scenes stuff, because there's a lot of very, very silly things happening that they've cut together to look like they're very cool. That was a very good time. I've laughed a lot this season at just the lunacy of the set-up.
Obviously, you've been filming under Covid protocols for a while. What was it like shooting this season compared to the previous one?
This one, the borders in Canada were shut down while we were there. A lot of us were used to being able to go home on weekends occasionally to see loved ones and have external support systems. That really didn't exist this last season. For a cast that was already exceptionally close, we got even closer, and that was kind of lovely. It was really, really hard for everyone to spend seven months without seeing your significant others, that was tough, but the cast in particular rallied around each other last season and became a family in a different way. It made me very grateful to be with the people I'm with on this show. It would have been impossible in a different group I think.
How do you entertain yourselves of an evening?
[Laughs] In a lot of ways. We got really good at that. You had to be pretty careful if you were going out to dinner even, or whatever, so a lot of us spent time with each other and we weren't afraid of a dance party! [Laughs]
Present company excepted, who is the best dancer in the cast?
Oh, man. Maybe Mike O'Malley. [Laughs] Mike O'Malley gets down!

Honestly? Snowpiercer is FUCKED if Melanie disembarks the train to go off on that potentially suicide weather observation mission by herself. She is literally the only person who knows how Wilford's mind works and how to outmaneuver him (which she proved by permanently fusing the two trains together). Layton, for all his fight and bravado, simply cannot hope to win against Wilford without the guidance of Melanie. That being said, I am excited to see an episode that is set in the outside world.
In the words of Sun Tzu: Know thy enemy. Wilford is a large unknown right now and the Snowpiercer gang will need all the info they can get on him if they want to keep their power. Mel has known him for a long time so she can give Layton valuable insight on the potential ongoing of his mind. Going off the train is a risky choice and can give Wilford a bit of an advantage but I doubt Bennet or Layton would send her off without trying to figure out some way to keep in contact with her while she’s off train.
Hypothetically, if Melanie were out of the equation and Layton had to face off against Wilford alone, I think the winner would come down to luck and circumstances. Both know little about the other and while Snowpiercer has more resources, Big Alice seems to be more united. It’d be too early to tell how the fight would play out right now. There are too many variables and situations can change fast.

Its no secret losing load can be a daunting task.
Were forever bombarded with social media photos that lead us to conceive the only way to get skinny these days is by drinking detox tea, taking augments and wearing a waist coach.
However, one mommy is on a mission to prove all it takes to score a smoking-hot bod are some foolproof lifestyle changes.
Like many maidens, 23 -year-old Natalie Burtina gained a little bit more baby heavines than she bargained for when she became pregnant back in 2013.
The Victoria-based dental nanny was recognized that she stopped caring about her diet and could just stand to be addressed herself in the reflect anymore by the time she reached her peak weight of almost 300 pounds.
Burtina told Daily Mail,
I had jam-pack on the load once I got pregnant. I only did not care but I was so uncomfortable with myself.
Matters were only made worse by the fact thatBurtina breaking with her lover about a year after her son Layton was born and often applied her own health on the back burner be followed up with her autistic son.
However, this single mama knew something had to change if she wanted to keep up with her fantastically active 3-year-old. Burtina divulged,
I was puffed out doing anything, precisely spent all the time.
So in 2015, Burtina made some positive changes to her lifestyle, doing things like accepting a healthier diet, trenching processed foods and swapping out sugary alcohols for water.
In addition to cleaning up her eating dress, Burtina also started incorporating some activity into her daily procedure by taking Layton out for long walks.
Burtina told Daily Mail,
The first time I did it I fought. And then I got a little bit better then I decided to join the gym.
Now, Burtina tries to stumbled the gym two or three times a week or works out in her home, with the help of Kayla Itsines fitness app, when she cant make it to the gym.
Thanks to these simple-minded changes, Burtina has stopped 14 widths in merely 18 months, losing about 126 pounds in the process.
This healthy mama has been documenting her stunning metamorphosi on social media, and its not hard to see shes living proof that all it was necessary to get health is some good, old-fashioned diet and exercise.
