hi!! very excited about your next batch! but i was wondering if you ever think of posting some of the (wonderful) female!mav scenes you wrote (the question mark on my computer decided to stop working but this is indeed a question)

yeah sure! again— this isn’t finished and never will be finished, I posted the reasons below. But here are a bunch of snippets from the fem!mav/lesbian charliemav AU from this summer. Would love to hear your thoughts, because politically it gave me some pause! lol.

1. On how mav survives (the central motif of the one-shot is Mav cutting her hair with scissors which is why the emphasis here)

2. On ice (straight icemav will never work because fundamentally ice is a misogynistic cunt)

3. on sex with girly girls (one of life’s greatest pleasures)

and here, copy-pasted, were the tags i planned to affix to the charliemav one-shot, which I think explain also why I stopped writing it—maverick is insanely out of character here!

But i fear i lose some of mav’s original character in the cynicism. 🤷🏽‍♀️ / that’s why i struggle writing AUs—you lose so much of the original characters who are DEFINED by the stories they’re from / if that makes sense. / i think a female maverick isn’t maverick. / you might as well be writing original fiction at that point. / this 1 shot is pretty much just original fiction. / idk would love to hear ppls thoughts on the fandom philosophy behind AUs / something i would love to think about more / top gun fanfiction / charlotte charlie Blackwood / pete maverick mitchell / Tom iceman kazansky/ nick goose bradshaw / genderbent top gun / charliemav / in this universe mav and Charlie break up and mav gets back together with Penny according to the tgm timeline btw / TGM mav might as well be a lesbian like nothing really has to change in the script at all. / post 2010 tom cruise just gives lesbian. no change necessary / soundtrack for this one is ‘I have a woman inside my soul’ by yoko ono”

I also stopped writing this one because I could not for the life of me figure out how to write goose, canonically a sexist just like mav and ice. made things difficult and a little awkward

#pete maverick mitchell #tom iceman kazansky #charlotte charlie blackwood #top gun #asks #oh boy lesbian charliemav though. whoa. 🥰#would’ve been great if I could’ve pulled it off 🥲#basically the plot of this one was maverick dealing first & foremost with her femininity #she’s not trans BUT she hates womanhood. if that makes sense. because womanhood makes people discount her #as a pilot in the manly manly naval aviator program.#her womanhood functions the same as ‘fatherly dishonor’ in the original movie. makes people discount her/him as a pilot.#so she toxically replicates the behaviors of the men around her to make her less attractive to them and less of a target #but then with the Layton mission she proves herself #and actually bests iceman (who is super butthurt about it bc woman beat him but they maintain respect)#and Charlie encourages mav to start growing her hair out etc. engaging more with her femininity now she’s proven herself.#politically a little weird!#not butch by choice i guess? which felt anachronistic if that makes sense #but fun nonetheless #charliemav #I have never seen GI Jane but this seems a lot like that based on my limited knowledge of it tbh #think i relate to mav too much in this one.#I’d like to be taken seriously as a Writer not a woman writer. so i write about men to be taken seriously as a Writer not as a woman writer #feels a lot like mav in this one

the double standards are so ridiculous. i've seen people making tory jokes about tubbo spending a fortune on a minecraft server, but how is that any different from any other streamer with a big project? being transparent about costs is not a tory thing. server costs are crazy and paying fair wages for 40 people is not cheap either. and if they want to talk about crazy budgets they should really take a closer look at things like genloss

most ccs are suuuuper closed off about their earnings and spendings while tubbo is way more transparent then any of them. he'll literally bring up his twitch earning stats on stream 😭 I am actually interested to know how much gen loss cost tho

just finished the sex lives of college girls season 2 and i’m really disappointed?? it was a really enjoyable season with really funny moments throughout, but it was so messy and clunky that it’s just so frustrating to look back on.

anyway spoiler warning for everything below the cut

bela was a great character, but she got sexually assaulted last season, then became really sexual this season, which makes a lot of sense, only to not even mention anything of it at all, and then somehow didn't even address how much of a dick eric was but instead was made to take all of the blame? like yes she did some horrible things too but why did eric become a saint despite his sexist comments and the fact he tried to take over her connection with the comedy guy? bela has so much potential but was written as just this really messy character whose job is to let others look better and to make funny jokes.

whitney is another character i love but her storyline was so random? from the misogynoir which was brushed off after one episode to getting with the clearly misogynistic guy who only saw her as worthy of his attention when she proved her intelligence, to then wanting to get back with canaan despite not even having much to go off of... it was just very messy.

leighton was better written than the other two, but the last two episodes were definitely her downfall. she claimed to be friends with all of the people at the women's centre yet we never saw her with them until we needed to make tatum look out of touch... she did show growth (in relation to her views on politics and the people at the centre) but it doesn't really count if we avoid all of that until the last two episodes. and then to suddenly make tatum into an asshole without even exploring anything else, meanwhile every male counterpart gets to have chance after chance before being kicked off screen (if that). it's just very odd to me idk

that being said kimberly is probably my favourite of the group. her story was very well written and i really loved her. she's so much fun and her growth was the funnest to watch, and i’m really excited to see what her and canaan do.

overall, with some clunky editing, overuse of ADR, and the inconsistency this season was a lot worse than season one. it was really fun, and the episodes were never really *bad* but it just had so many overall issues that it's hard to rate it all above 3.5. this show could really do with more episodes, because everything was so rushed and some of the endings felt like those netflix mini series that really should be movies and just throw in random plot twists at the end to keep us watching. so much happened yet almost none of it was done well. a very fun but also very disappointing season.
