hey hi this might just be my obsession with her but hey. what happened to caitlin's screentime. i miss her. i miss when she had relevant plot and the writers cared about her and didn't just show up to say some science exposition then disappear for another two episodes.
i thought she was one of the main characters. LIKE SHE IS. it just feels like they forgot almost every plot point they have with her until the next caitlin centric episode. whcih gets more and more sparse each season.
s6 was actually brutal, she had virtually no screentime or episodes, it was all about frost, which i get that they wanted to do something different, but caitlin shouldn't have been completely pushed aside. like, i feel like after s4, they didn't know what to do with caitlin. if she doesn't have a love interest or her storyline with frost, they have no idea what to do with her plot.
so they don't include her at all.
WHICH PISSES ME OFF? BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH. SO MUCH POTENTIAL FOR CAITLIN STORYLINES THAT DON'T INCLUDE FROST.
those brief, beautiful moments where she gets a chance to shine or have her angst, like when the flashbacks showed her getting fucking run over??? by her dad?? which she repressed for 20 years??? and that's not good plot material for the writers??
in 7x08, when caitlin just breaks down because she doesn't want to live a life without frost?? 2x22 when caitlin thinks she sees jay everywhere and is terrified?
they have an actual goldmine of a character with built-up plot and lore and angst and personality and she's literally my favourite flash character ever and they just. push her aside.
they have deleted scenes of really good caitlin stuff with danielle acting her ass off and they just scrap it because hey we actually wanna see more of another wells or cecile or allegra or whoever they decide to focus on today :3
guys i promised myself this wouldn't be an anti-flash rant, istg im just so sad. i love caitlin. i love frost. i love their storylines.
it just sucks the show doesn't seem to think they matter.

✨⚡️ Seven(ish) Sentence Sunday ⚡️✨
Tagged by @acountrygirlsfun (I think actually multiple times, whoops) Thank you, Caitlin ❤️
"There is no such thing as dar'ad. A parent cannot disown their child." Obi-Wan knew, even without the Force to tell him, what reaction was sweeping through every clone massed around them. He didn't wriggle around to see, but he also didn't allow himself to close his ears against what would come. "Well we know that's banthashit." He'd expected Fox, or Wolffe, or maybe Rex. Hearing it in Boba's childish tenor instead was far worse.
A minor miracle in that this is actually Sunday and the last seven lines I wrote actually work well as a lil snippet. I didn't do either of things on purpose but I'm so very pleased to have done them properly at last.
Edit! No lie babes, for a minute there I straight forgot tagging should happen. I was so caught up in the euphoria, etc etc. In any case, I'm tagging you, yes you, dear viewer! Anybody who wants to. I love you all

My paired down list of spirit work and death magic. (Obviously this is what works for me and I'm kind of a picky person when I aquire written work)
Physical Media:
Tumblr media
Cunning Words: A Grimoire of Tales and Magic by Marshall WSL (This one I pre-ordered and haven't gotten through the whole text but it's a good read. It incorporates the art of story telling with distinct spells and magic. I think it's very unique but I wouldn't recommend it unless you want something with flavor)
Riding the Bones by the three little sisters (this one is an anthology of particular practices from different walks of life pertaining to death and transition. I've only read a few of the stories but for what it's worth I think its good insight)
Botanical Curses and Poisons by Fez Inkwright (I only list this because it's always good to know what's good and bad for you. Know what can kill you and you can probably avoid it)
The Bones Fall in A Spiral by Mortellus (again I've mentioned this before but I think this is a good work for someone getting into the field and needs someone that's direct and experienced in what they do. One of my favorites.
Consorting with Spirits by Jason Miller (I feel like this is a staple of the craft and while I personally don't connect with the material it works and it has some good points)
Metamorphosis by Ovid (I think it's always necessary to deal with primary texts. Go with the classics. Ovid has a beautiful way of writing and you get to really understand the stories and myths that spirits of the dead living etc are connected to and if you do any deity work I highly recommend it.)
Of Blood and Bone by Kate Freuler (I have mixed views on this one. some of the stuff is informative and it provides some good spells, but it lacks transparency and depth. I find Mortellus book far more student minded.)
The complete language of flowers by S. Theresa Dietz (if you work with the dead, deities, spirits or hey plant spirits. Chances are you've come across Victorian flower language. I use this book as a reference guide for symbolism/folklore/ and as a way to connecting with spirits)
Encyclopedia of Spirits by Judika Illes (hey no library is complete without an encyclopedia. I personally like this one because it's very indepth without being too overwhelming. Not sure where to go? Just pick up this book and you can do more indepth research later. It's what it's there for. Reference guides are one of my favorites.)
Okay that's it for my physical media.
I also have a list of digital copies I keep.
Morbid Magic by Tomàs Prower (I think if you buy any book from this collection buy this one. It gives you an over all guide of most death practices around the world)
Historical:
Death, Dissection and the Destitute by Ruth Richardson
The Work of the Dead by Thomas W. Laqueur.
(I list these because they are a good source guide to how we treated the dead and spirits in the past. It's always important we learn from those that came before us.)
Greek Customs: (if you're going to do any type of work with Greek chthonic deities I suggest these three articles/books. I'm not saying its mandatory but these are very helpful guides to understanding ancient thought and how to bring them into today.)
Burial Customs, The Afterlife and the Pollution of Death in ancient Greece by Francois Pieter Retief and Louise Cilliers (free on research gate)
Underworld Gods in Ancient Greek Religion Death and Reciprocity by Ellie Mackin Roberts
Inner Purity and Pollution in Greek Religion Volume 1 by Andrej Petrovic and Ivana Petrovic (this one's my personal favorite)

what i think is really interesting about ava as a "chosen one" character is that she's someone who spent most of her life wanting to die — and now with that second chance, desperately wants to live. she isn't simply going to take some ""fated sacrifice"" lying down.

Your tears are fitting tribute. Soon enough you will join us that are current with the game and watch others experience it, and become an emotional vampire.
I'm so excited and scared!
My friend told me that Endwalker, uh... basically concludes the story?
So I'll have a very "now what..." problem when we get there, assuming it's a satisfying ending. Even if it's not, I enjoy plenty of good series with flawed endings, but it's the "oh god, we told our story but we still have to make more game" and the model of perpetual growth under capitalism that scares me...
But, hey, burn that bridge when we get to it!

I don't think we've talked enough about how iconic it was that the flash got both Wentworth and dominic to play partners, ice and fire, with wentworth the one making the plans. Like the first episode he appears in they don't even show dominic, you hear him say "yeah buddy im in" at the very end of the episode. They gave them whole ass brotherly partners they started in the flash then moved to legends and all that after the first run of prison break, like they knew the power they had at that point. Fucking iconic.

I would have to watch a shitty yuri-baiting desecration of Gundam to know the particulars, but Sunrise/Bandai-Namco backpedaling on the lesbian relationship in Witch of Mercury (some say to please China), and the Western yuri fans threatening fucking arson as a result, is instructive.
Namely, never deliberately appeal to shippers, especially not Western ones, with that kind of shit. Cultivating a following of people known for harassment and violence against creators who displease them is fucking stupid—ally with cannibals and you can easily end up on the menu. Shippers are unhinged at the best of times, and shippers who have spent their whole adult lives being told their lipstick-lesbian or slashfic fetish is actually a concern for social justice and intersectional feminism can excuse their insanity on political grounds.

The Flash has made some questionable writing decisions regarding Cecile, but the things the fandom decides to nitpick over are so weird.
"Aahh, she's showing Barry affection and calling him 'honey', she's clearly trying to holler at him!"
Or, OOOOOORRRRRR she's A) a mom, B) a black woman from Texas, C) an empath, or D) all of the above PLUS Barry's love language is touch but he also thrives on pep talks, and all of these things contribute to how she would choose to comfort him when he needs it, and it's a totally normal thing to do, y'all are just sad, strange, touch starved little men, and you have my pity.

Spirit, space, and lightning!
Spirit: What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received on your writing?
That it's made some people cry (getting a couple tears from Eran once was a big one--actually a lot of what Eran has said is up there 🥺). I can't remember specifics either right now, but whenever people praise my writing with a focus on vivid scenes and emotions and romance,,,,,ily all
Space: Where’s your favorite place to write?
My old university library, in the quiet, at night, when there's no one around.
Lightning: What’s the most shocking plot twist you’ve ever come up with?
oh BOY, that is a secret! Read The Great Glavenisean Theater, when it's done, and In the Deep of the Trees, in the far future, and you can tell me 👀

idk if you’ve been keeping up with womens march madness or anything but seeing people get mad at angel reese for the things she was saying after lsu won women’s march madness but i can most definitely guarantee that if it was caitlin clark saying the same things people would be obsessed with what she was saying and wouldn’t be angry🫣🫣🫣
Look I love Caitlin Clark especially being a big UConn fan since forever and her being best friends with Paige Bueckers but she was talking shit the whole tournament too and no one said anything

I beat the base-game story for FF14! Yaaay! \o/
I have... SO many thoughts, I just kinda powered through the last bit after the Scions got got, most of my thoughts are relatively positive, but also I have some very mean, very stupid opinions about some of the writing choices happening here.
I'll probably make a few posts in greater detail later, but for now my strongest opinions can be summed up as follows;
Holy fuck, I hate Minfilia, the literal child was a better leader than her. She's weak and indecisive and written as a terrible leader without the narrative addressing that fact at all. So it's not just irresponsible misogynistic writing, it's just lazy and laughably incompetent writing.
I wound up liking the villain quartet more than I thought I would, namely the big dude you have to kill first. His devotion to his men and belief in the empire due to his ability to rise to his station really stood out. That was probably the most nuanced this game has been so far, I was impressed, I genuinely felt bad I had to kill him. He was written from a perspective of empathy with the full breadth of emotion, like a real human being.
I had not come to expect that from this game!
Namely because all of our villains until this point were cartoons who wanted to blow up the moon and all of our heroes were made of unflappable cardboard. That's not to say they don't have their charms, I love a good "Mua ha ha!" as much as the next person, but y'know, largely forgettable. The worst example of this comes from Cid and Thancred. Like. Hey, Cid, these are your childhood friends we're slaughtering. You really gonna no thoughts, head empty your way through this?
Yeah?
Okay... cool...
god forbid someone have an interesting reaction.
The WORST example of that, however, is Thancred. I really thought we'd get something out of Thancred being possessed by Lahabrea. Like, even if he didn't make a choice or a deal to get possessed and had no agency in that, he would at least have a reaction to knowing he'd gotten his people killed or tortured. That's going to at the very least cause reflection in a character and an interesting change in his perspective if not outright trauma he's going to have to work through, and that's a good emotional hook to have someone your character needs to look out for. Real vulnerability, maybe, if we're lucky.
Haha,
NOPE!
Like. I've played Kingdom Hearts. I'm getting big Organization XIII vibes from the Ascians, and I'm looking at Thancred like, oh, okay, you're just... older Riku. Sure. I can work with that, that's a good source of angst, at least someone's feeling SOMETHING in the narrative at that point.
But fucking lol, no, he's just like "Thanks for saving me, I've been a real inconvenience, I should take some time off to recover so nobody has to help me again."
ANd like...
Buddy, that is the reaction you have when you're hangry and you get kinda snippy before somebody hands you a candybar and tells you to calm down. You're REALLY not gonna talk about this?! I have a whole subsequent sidequest to help Minfilia find her MOMMY so she can grow the moral fortitude to refuse bribes, but Thancred spends months being possessed by THE bad guy and gets the Scions nearly wiped out and he's FINE and we're MOVING ON!
REALLY?!
I know I JUST compared it to Kingdom Hearts, but it's not even that! Kingdom Hearts, for being TERRIBLE, at least understood that the way to get people invested in a narrative was to give them characters who CARE about things and react accordingly! Oh my god, Kingdom Hearts was more competent than this! OH MY GOD, it's so bad, I'm so ANGRY! It was starting to show promise, how did it turn around and do itself this dirty, who was responsible for this?!
GOD.
That said, the things I like are, like, everything else about this game so far. My god was I frustrated the entire time I was sitting through some of this shit storywise, but the gameplay was very fun. The game is otherwise the single most functional, deep, and FUN mmo I've ever played gamewise. I'm ASSURED the story gets better, and like, frankly, it wouldn't take much effort for that to be true, but if they can also make the story GOOD, I will be pleasantly surprised because right now we're in "so incompetent I burst out laughing" territory.
And then after all that they called it the 7th Astral Era like, job's done, go home team, ignore the multiple other looming threats! We're admitting Lahabrea isn't dead even in-text among the Scions and there's still countless Primals being summoned and I'm pretty sure somebody needs to talk about these giant talking crystals, but NOPE, 7th Astral Era here we go!
I give it ten months.
Anyway, I'm gonna go read up on how to kill the Moogle King so I can progress this narrative, but I'm in like, humorously SHOCKED disbelief at how bad this was. Like, the FUNNY kind of angry, not legit angry, the "Oh, here's a new rant I could go on about for ten minutes EASY" kind of angry, it was so bad.

Hey, so for Watcher fans who may not wanna pay for another subscription or just wanna watch something new here are some other youtubers you should take a look at if you want to get a spook or learn some history
(* = potentially triggering topics covered usually associated with crimes, so be careful)
Ghost Hunting and general spooky vibes:
AmysCrypt - Your typical ghost hunting show with two Australians traveling the world, though I will say they do go to places I've never heard of before and they do very good research. And there are some goofs along with the spooks.
The Ouija Brothers - Two British dudes finding ghosts in England. The vibes are generally pretty chill and it's a good time
The Paranormal Scholar - A mixed bag of all paranormal happenings from ghosts to demons to cryptids and aliens. Sort of an overview to deepdives on various paranormal occurrences. The research is immaculate and their voice is very soothing in my opinion.
Paranormal Quest - Ghost hunting in the US, sometimes goofy sometimes serious, but they do go to some interesting places and some familiar ones too
Weird History:
ObsoleteOddity* - This guy is great, like 80% of the things he covers I've never heard of before. Very atmospheric, fun little visuals, and a large variety of weird events and people for topics.
Georgia Marie* - A little bit of everything, but she focuses on strange things that have happened, lgbt history, true crime, and historical disasters. She covers enough of everything that I'm sure you'll find something
Stefanie Valentine* - I'm not sure if she even posts anymore, but I thought what she was doing was great. Think Vampira or Elvira but for older true crime and ghost stories, I think the latest covered would have been like early 1900s. Idk I just thought it was like a cute spooky lil storytime
Caitlin Doughty or Ask A Mortician* - Pretty sure y'all would know who she is but just in case, she's a mortician who covers topics relating to death! From odd ways people have died, or odd things that have happened to people after they've died. And just odd or tragic things that have happened through history. It's silly, but done with levity and care and respect the topics deserve.
General History:
Part-Time Explorer - Mostly history on ships and ghost towns with the occasional train. Lots of research and interviews, very well done and worth checking out even if it may not be your thing.
History's Forgotten People - Talks about sometimes obscure, or sometimes not, historical individuals. Even if you've heard of the person in the topic, they'll talk on something obscure about that person.
History Tea Time with Lindsay Holiday - A heavy focus on royalty around the world, a generally upbeat dive into historic individuals.
(Or you could always go watch time team, that's an option and it's my guilty pleasure love me some archeology)
True Crime:
There are so many out there, so I'll just recommend two of my favorites
Gabulosis* - She focuses on vintage cases 20 years or older (literally in her opener) and is well researched and respectful. Another one that talks on cases I've never heard of that deserve to be heard.
Mysterious WV* - True crime and missing persons based in the West Virginia area and neighboring states. Idk how to even explain the vibes. This guy is just great please watch him trust me you won't be disappointed.
That's all for now, feel free to add your own recs out there!
