i am alive! sorry for neglecting this blog — i promise i’m gonna try to be active again!
time to start attacking the pile of tag games i haven’t done. this one is from @dontjudgemeimawriter :) my words are believe, offer, dismiss, concern, & recognize
believe (from circle of hurt):
“What’s going on, Kina?” [Caelan] said again, more gently.
“Nothing’s going on,” she said, but there was a tremble in her voice. “Maybe I just wanted to talk to him, Cae. Is that so bad?”
“When it comes to him, yeah,” Caelan replied. “You should’ve spat in his face. He was awful to you, Kina.”
“It wasn’t all bad.”
Caelan exhaled in a frustrated huff. “You can’t seriously still believe that. Please tell me you’re not planning to get back together with him.”
Akina said nothing. Caelan stared at her, an icy curl of dread clenching around his insides.
offer (from circle of hurt — TW: alcohol):
“I didn’t think anybody noticed things about me,” [Nik] said. “Especially not you.”
Maybe it was from all the alcohol, but Nik felt as though the air was humming between them. He could still hear the sounds of the party, but they seemed to be coming from very far away.
Adreanna’s eyes were fixed steadily on his as she offered him the wine again. “I notice plenty of things about you.”
Nik held her gaze. “Like what?”
A hint of a smile touched the corner of her mouth. “Like how nervous I make you.”
Nik flinched, startled. He didn’t know what he’d expected her to say, but it certainly wasn’t that.
dismiss (from night’s daughter):
I glance over at the maid. “Are you sure... I mean, is this really my room?”
The young woman nods, her expression placid. “It is, miss. His Highness Prince Aedan ordered that it be prepared for you.”
Well, I suppose I cannot argue with that. I’m far too tired to argue anyways.
The maid begins to ask me if there is anything I need, but I tell her no before she can even finish, suddenly so swamped with exhaustion I can barely keep my eyes open. She must notice, because she wishes me a good night and dismisses herself without any more fuss.
concern (from circle of hurt):
They continued speaking, but now Nik could tell something was wrong. He’d never seen Caelan look so serious; concern had washed all the dancing light out of his eyes. As for Akina—when Nik craned his neck to see her face, she looked as though she might cry. What could they possibly be talking about?
recognize (from night’s daughter):
“Well, well, well. The damsel cleans up rather nicely.”
I don’t need to turn around to recognize that sly, mischief-tinted voice. I take in a breath, steeling myself. Maia’s grilling about protocol—and her warnings about causing offense—flutter through my head. “Good evening, Lord Alcott.”
“That would be my father, technically, but I don’t mind the sound of it. Feel free to call me ‘lord’ whenever you like.”
I turn to face Pollux just as one shimmering eyelid drops closed in a wink. [...]
Maia makes a sound of exasperation. “Oh, shove off, you worthless flirt. I’m going to get a drink.”
i shall tag @asomeoneperson @solipsism-lemonade @zmwrites @sleepy-night-child @cream-and-tea @chaotic-queer-disaster @thanatostouch + anyone else who would like to play :)
new words: wink, wrong, wish, wine, and when
(look at me w my alliterations)

i haven't seen a lot of talk about this, but a few weeks ago i read a post (that was sadly deleted)about how there's a japanese singer with an album called utahime and one of her songs is called the same way as uta's ct and is basicallly about forbidden love
Hi bb!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I saw some threads on it on twitter and this was one!!! (Again thank u to Dnawawala from twitter for sending me this tweet so I can share to you hehe)
Utahime's cursed technique is an amplifying CT to a willing sorcerer within a range that boosted Gojo's Hollow Purple to 200% during the beginning with his fight with Sukuna in Ch. 223. Her technique like we always headcanon here takes a while to warm up and is more of a support to offense so naturally, it really was reserved for circumstances like their (still on going) battle. To activate her technique, she must dance and offer energy to boost as she did for Gojo.
The name of her CT " Solo Forbidden Zone" (Soro soro Kinku -  ソロソロ  キンク ) is believed to be based by a love song "Kinku" by Nakamori Akina which contains lyrics such as:
My fluttering heart blindfolds my sense of reason If this goes on any longer, I’ll lose all confidence
Your enigmatic smile bewilders me I turn around and see the way home at twilight
“I’d love an ordinary love…” My heart says one thing and does another You in all your danger are the only thing I can love anymore My heart, stopped with your lips, whispers You plan on making me tell you goodbye… But that’s advice I just can’t take
Want to go back, can’t go back. I feel one way and do another This confusion is love, isn’t it? Soon I’ll be in the forbidden zone If this is just a game to you, that’s still better than nothing to me I should love someone else But that’s advice I just can’t take
If this isnt shouting GojoHime.......... I dont know what is heheheheh

[Namasu the Employed Ninja]
(Contents: Namasu analysis, Iroha analysis)
This was a nice little introductory chapter for Namasu, probably the classmate that we've gotten the least information on thus far. At the very least, I think this is the first time we've ever heard her speak without being censored
Naturally she speaks in code, reducing her sentences down to only two syllables at most it looks like, though I'm not sure if this is a code that was made up for her or if it's something that's associated with ninjas conceptually
Because this was her introduction, I don't think we have a lot to go off of here, but there were a couple of interesting details. The most notable of course was that Nohime referred to her as Giri Namasu rather than Akina Namasu. Is Akina an alias? Are these alternate readings of the same kanji? Is this a different Namasu? We likely won't know for a while, but I won't be taken off guard if this is a different person altogether
Secondly, when Namasu stayed behind to continue solving the sliding mat puzzle, she stated that she had a dream, and we can assume one that she's willing to bet her life on. We obviously don't know what that dream is yet, but let's look at the puzzle she was trying to solve specifically: ninja of varying rank making moves to get a princess to safety, potentially at the cost of their own lives. That's surprisingly on the nose, wouldn't you say? Namasu, the ninja, is the personal guard for Nohime, the princess, so her dream most likely revolves around Nohime, possibly trying to free her from some kind of oppression brought on by her family. The exact details don't really matter right now, but the main point is that she's willing to die to make it happen
Nohime recommended Namasu for the expedition team specifically because she expected her to get along with Iroha, but based on this puzzle, I imagine that she wanted Iroha's personality to rub off on Namasu. Iroha's MO this entire time has been to keep everyone safe even at the cost of victory, a sort of anti-Pyrrhic victory, but based on what we just saw, Namasu is the self-sacrificing type who only considers the objective and not the means. Iroha, ignoring the conventions of "war," sees the route to survival rather than the route to victory, because the two are synonymous to him. This philosophy of valuing everyone equally will no doubt come back in Namasu's story when she has to make a choice between herself, Nohime, and possibly even the rest of the class
Come to think of it, that's what happened with Oboro last chapter, isn't it? Oboro made a deliberate choice to sacrifice herself for Iroha and Kasuri's sake rather than sacrificing them or simply going down with them as Iroha likely would have wanted. This is exactly the kind of thing that Iroha would rather avoid, but he was in a position that made it impossible for him to prevent it
It's also interesting that Kasuri is on guard around Namasu after the events with Karigane (though she denies it's related) considering that Karigane also was operating on Iroha's philosophy: "as long as you've made it home alive, you've won." Unlike Iroha who wants to achieve this by keeping everyone together and relying on their unique strengths, Karigane chose to focus on individual skill levels, weeding out anyone who couldn't hold their own as too weak to risk keeping around. She was protecting them, yes, but in a way that disrespects them as members of the team. Meanwhile, Iroha throws himself into harms way to protect Kasuri from incoming shuriken or reenters the collapsing room to help Namasu not because they're so weak that they need protecting, but because he understands that there's strength in numbers and won't abandon his team
Exposure to Iroha's unique sense of survival and community should, theoretically, help Namasu improve her own self-preservation instincts while also showing her how to use them to her advantage in making her dream come true, whatever it may be. Even if I'm wrong about the specifics, I do hope that this is a sign that Nohime values Namasu, the same way that Toshusai values Omamuro and Yugata. I'd certainly enjoy seeing more development for the Nohime Faction and getting some parallels to Toshusai's group
See you all next time

Shaman King fic: Can you help me ?(Akina Asakura (my Hao’s daughter FC) Asking for directions to the Asakura house) CH 2
Akina and the other Asakuras talked for what felt like hours, She explained herself and that she is the daughter of Hao Asakura, She told them of her fathers wish for her to become a stronger shaman and that of her dreams of fire, She then explained that her goal is to defeat the fire not join it despite her destiny to become one with it and tip the balance out of sync, She assured the Asakuras that she would not drag humans into her fight and that she simply wants to help others.
When all was said the only one not convinced was Anna, She could sense that the girl of Asakura blood was an unknown variable, Still she did not want to pass quick judgement as she thought how would she like it if people mistreat her own child, She had agreed to stand down for now till more proof of the young shamans intent was known, Innocent until proven guilty as they say.
Yoh had agreed to let his niece stay on the grounds that she be monitored for anything suspicious, Akina agreed to this condition on the grounds that she be at least allowed time for bathing on her own, To which Yoh said was a given, Yoh also said he would be letting the extended family know of the situation and will also be calling in the help of a few friends who had dealt with Hao in the past.
Tamao was the only one who came to trust Akina after that meeting, She could sense the truth of they young shamans plight, Although she did not voice this support she said shed make sure that anything Akina needed would be provided and that her belongings had been retrieved and put in a room with a lock.
Akina also agreed to follow the house rules and to assure them that her spirit ally will follow these rules as well, On the first night Akina dined in her room away from the other Asakuras as Yoh now being the head of the family thought it best to not cause any more friction, It was a lonely night as she got dressed into her nightwear.
“I can understand your reasoning to agree to their rules Mistress, But know this if any of them harm you I will act accordingly, I promised your father to keep you safe and that is a vow I will not take lightly” Yuko spoke to her master as she took guard by Akinas room door.
“Thank you Yuko but you really need to keep your head down, If things don’t end well we will simply go on our way and not bother them with our mission, Its no big deal” Akina assured her spirit ally as she heard a knock at the door.
Akina got up to answer the door, When she did she was greeted by a blonde haired boy who was wearing a black shirt on, he stood by the door and looked up at the moon as Amidamaru joined him, Both looked at her and her spirit ally.
“So you’re the reason mother and father had a fight earlier, you don’t seem dangerous but if mother doesn’t trust you that’s not good, I would recommend you try to get into her good books if you want a quiet life here “ The boy suggested whist taking a stretch and looking at his spirit ally.
“Thanks for the advice, My names Akina and I guess were cousins” Akina greeted herself to him, He looked at her with a small smile and shook her hand as their spirit allies conversed.
“The names Hana, Its nice to have someone my age around here, It could be fun and I want to spar with you, Im curious as to what has my mother so worked up and I have been bored lately” Hana smirked looking at his cousin before sitting down on the outside step.
With that Akina and Hana talked for a few hours, each talked about their hobbies and interests as well as their tastes in music, After that Hana got up and headed to bed and agreed to talk to Akina on a nightly basis, Something to which Akina was delighted it felt nice having at least someone talk about her not as a bringer of calamity but as a normal kid who just wanted to help those she cares about.
Amidamaru and Yuko came to a middle ground too, He agreed to the fact that the female archer wanted to keep her master safe and that he wouldn’t hold it against her if things went south however he did say that if that came to pass that all friendship was off the table as his loyalty was to the Asakura family.
And after that the night passed, Everyone had fell asleep and the place was quiet, only the crickets sang in the air, Akina had her usual nightmare of the flame in front of her, “soon it will come, the time for the cleansing of the humans” it spoke as Akina shook her head and replied “No I will not follow your plan” and with that she awoke in a panic, She was relieved for a second until she noticed that there was scorch marks on her bedding and that her tatami matt had burns on it too, She was afraid as Yoh entered the room and grasped her into his arms almost as if he could sense her distress.
“Its okay Akina try to be calm” Yoh assured her as he looked into her panicked face as he calmed her down, After ten minutes he managed to calm her and sat by her.
“Its over now your safe “Yoh spoke looking at her as she looked at him crying and shaking her head.
“It won’t be over until I can stop the future from burning in flames” Akina responded.

sorry for neglecting this blog for a little while!! gonna try to be more active and start writing again so i have new things to share. in the meantime, here is a tag from @sleepyowlwrites <3
my words are sigh, swallow, smooth, sound, + shiny and shield
sigh (from night’s daughter v1):
For a solid handful of seconds, I swear that my heart stops beating.
The king? I’m going to meet the king?
Maia must see the sudden shocked panic in my eyes, because she gives me a sympathetic look and a reassuring smile. Pollux, on the other hand, remains unaware, heaving a dramatic sigh. “Well, I can’t argue with His Royal Majesty, can I?” He leans over the table to pluck a grape from Maia’s bowl. “Enjoy yourselves.”
swallow (from circle of hurt — Caelan and Akina are arguing about Akina getting back together with her shitty ex, and Caelan… took it a bit too far)
(tw: sexual allusions)
“[Adreanna] doesn’t care about me, Cae. She never will. At least Zach actually liked me.”
The thin thread of Caelan’s patience snapped. “Good God, Akina, grow up. He liked having you waiting in his bed whenever he wanted. He knew he could fuck around with every girl in the school and you’d still welcome him back with open arms. And legs.”
A terrible silence fell between them. The sounds of the party drained away as though Caelan had dunked his head underwater, leaving only the rasp of his breathing, loud as thunder in his ears. Akina’s eyes, wide with shock, filled his field of vision until he could see nothing else.
“Kina,” he started, reaching toward her. “I didn’t mean it like that—”
Akina jerked herself back before he could touch her. Between one blink and the next, her eyes were full of tears. “Fuck you,” she said, a trapped sob wavering in her voice.
“Kina,” Caelan said again, more desperately, but she was gone before the word left his mouth. Her silver dress flashed as she turned and stormed off into the crowd, and then the partygoers swallowed her up.
smooth (from night’s daughter v1):
The water of the stream is cold when I dip my fingers in to wash away the berry juice, but refreshingly so. When I cup it in my hands to drink, it tastes clean and clear, even better than water from the village well. Once my fingers are clean, I sit down by the edge and slide my stinging feet in, watching the water whisk away the dirt and the few smears of blood where the forest floor pricked my skin. I can see right down to the streambed, to the stones polished smooth as marbles by the flowing water.
sound x2 (from a little piece about my werewolf girl Tessa):
I stand, shaking the clinging dirt from my fur. For a moment, I feel disoriented, unsteady on my feet.
Tessa.
I pause, head cocked. That means something to me, but I don’t know what. I don’t know what it is. I can’t remember… can’t…
A distant sound reaches me, and my ears perk. It comes again—a faraway howl from somewhere else in the woods.
I tip my head back to the sky. My howl echoes, rising over the sounds of the birds in the treetops, the rustle of new leaves brushing against each other in the wind.
The pack howls back to me, calling me home.
shiny (from night’s daughter v1):
I follow suit a few moments later to get dressed, wondering if there will be a maid’s uniform waiting for me. To my surprise, there isn’t. Instead, laid out on the bed are a loose, airy white shirt and a pair of dark trousers. On the floor beside the bed are shiny black ankle-length boots, not entirely unlike my own beloved pair.
I drift closer to the bed and lift a leg of the trousers, feeling the fine material between my fingers. These are far nicer clothes than I had expected to be dressed in.
shield (from night’s daughter v0):
When [Iliana] smiles again, there is something dangerous in it, like a lioness baring her teeth just before an attack. The power rumbles deep inside me, as if in warning.
I shove my hands deeper into the folds of my cloak, willing the tendrils of shadow to stay put.
“Your new friends have poisoned you against me already, I see,” she muses. “What kinds of stories have they fed you?”
“Nothing but good things,” I say sweetly, keeping that smile on my face like a shield.

i know i just posted about how i’m kind of on a hiatus, but i wanted to pop in with a circle of hurt update. here’s the opening of adreanna’s pov section:
[TW: kissing]
Tumblr media
things are HEATIN UP
[transcript below the cut]
transcript:
Adreanna hadn’t expected that Nik would be such a good kisser.
Pressed up against the wall with his body leaning into hers, her hands in his hair and his tongue in her mouth, she had to admit she’d underestimated him. She’d thought he would be stiff with fear, that he might even jerk away. But Nik’s fear seemed to kindle a kind of ferocity to life inside him. He kissed her with a hunger that seemed ravenous, bottomless, as if it would swallow them both whole.
Adreanna welcomed it, matching him kiss for kiss, dizzy with the taste of him. If she threw herself into the chasm of Nik’s desire, maybe she could forget the sight of Akina’s hopeful eyes.
Akina. Adreanna squeezed her eyes shut. She couldn’t bear to even look Akina in the face tonight. Not with her looking the way she did, her eyes glimmering, her dark hair threaded with silver, her mouth plush and pink as a rose petal. She’d been glowing like a fallen star, almost too lovely to bear. It was more than Adreanna’s heart could handle.

i’m still not super active atm because of school, but i wanted to do a word search today! this one is from @solipsism-lemonade, thanks for the tag <3
my words are thick, mask, pinch, wrap, and vintage
thick (from night’s daughter v1):
As I enter the gorge, the ground begins to tilt sharply downwards. Thick roots and rocks serve as footholds, but I’m sure to be careful all the same. I’ve stumbled and fallen here enough times to know that it is unwise to be hasty in this part of the forest. I have a permanent reminder in the form of a jagged white scar that streaks up the back of my calf like a bolt of lightning—earned when I, full of fifteen-year-old impatience, once neglected to take care and slipped all the way to the bottom of the valley, tearing my leg open on the sharp rocks.
mask (from night’s daughter v0. i actually completely forgot this scene existed, wow. i think this is one of my new favourite celiana moments)
[very very mild TW for romance? there’s nothing implicitly romantic here, but there sure are some undercurrents]
I swallow hard, trying to get my racing heartbeat under control. I cannot lose myself here, not with Iliana watching me so closely. “That still doesn’t answer my question,” I force out. “Why do you want me?”
For a split second, something in Iliana’s face seems to slip. Her gaze drops to her hand—to the braided gold of the ring around her little finger—before she jerks it back up to me, her expression settling once more into its mask of remote calm.
“Because, Celena,” she says, eyes more knowing than ever, “I don’t think I’m the only one who wants to know things.”
Another gust of memory sweeps into my head: the two of us in a dark room, the tiny space between us scented with cinnamon and clove; her eyes holding mine, depthless, endless. The whispered question that seemed to tear me raw.
What is it that you have lost, Celena?
pinch (from laid bare, my unfinished drea & kina piece):
Then [Adreanna] tilts her head back and lets out a long, heavy exhale, as though she’s been holding her breath. Even her sigh sounds musical, lovelier than the sound of leaves whispering in the wind.
“It’s the moon,” she says. Akina follows her gaze to the sky, where it seems to stare down at them like a glittering white eye. “My head has been buzzing all day. I couldn’t focus on a single thing. I had to get away.” She casts a cautious sidelong look at Akina. She’s nervous, Akina realizes abruptly, with a sharp pinch of surprise. Adreanna is never nervous, but she has also never talked about her powers like this. She has never opened up like this at all.
wrap (from night’s daughter v0; this happens directly before the excerpt for ‘mask’)
“You may find it in your best interest to join me.”
[...] “And why is that?”
I’m not sure I like that gleam in [Iliana’s] eye. When she speaks, her voice is little more than a murmur, although her words are anything but gentle. “If someone in the court wants the crown so badly that they tried to take me out, who do you think is going to be next?” Her hint of a smile is decidedly unpleasant. “The mysterious, pretty girl from Eilim who spends all her time with the crown prince seems like a good target.”
A cold wave washes over me. “They wouldn’t—”
“Wouldn’t they?” Her eyes pierce into me, intense and blinding as the sun. She’s no longer smiling.
In the pursuit of power, a person can do anything.
What I feel wrapping around my heart is not disbelief, but the slow, creeping tendrils of fear.
vintage
i'll tag @willowiswriting @kaiusvnoir @albatris @akindofmagictoo @zmlorenz @drippingmoon @chaotic-queer-disaster @rose-bookblood @thanatostouch and anyone else who wants to play!
new words: creep, heavy, swallow, and open

soft like silk chiffon
i’ve decided to start officially introducing the “magic gang”, my affectionate nickname for the WIP-less cast of teenage magical creatures constantly clamouring inside my brain, to writeblr!
i wrote this sappy piece toward the end of september as a birthday present for my lovely friend abby, who shares joint custody of the magic gang with me.
without further ado: meet Adreanna, a siren who likes to pretend she doesn’t have emotions, and Akina, her witch girlfriend who proves this wrong at every turn.
heavily inspired by the song “silk chiffon” by muna & phoebe bridgers.
(TW for romance, kissing, & a very brief, mild mention of blood)
magic gang taglist: @cream-and-tea @chaotic-queer-disaster
(word count: 1528)
Tumblr media
Three days into Adreanna’s Boston visit, Akina discovers something shocking.
“You don’t know how to rollerblade?” she demands, voice pitching high with disbelief. She leaps up from the couch to stare Adreanna down, hands perched on her hips. Her expression is affronted, as though Adreanna’s just said something deeply insulting.
Adreanna arches a brow from her spot on Akina’s cushion-covered couch, nearly buried under several knitted blankets and two purring cats whose names she’d never admit to forgetting. “No?” she says, trying not to smile at Akina’s deadly serious face.
“No? What do you mean, no? Why not?”
“I don’t know!” The smile slips free, tugs at the corners of Adreanna’s mouth, and a laugh bubbles up in her voice. The sound, to Akina, is like sunshine; the light in Adreanna’s eyes rare and precious as a sapphire pulled from the earth. “I never thought about learning how. I just bike everywhere back in Maine.”
Akina makes an incredulous sound, shaking her head before Adreanna even finishes speaking. “No,” she says. “No. Unacceptable. I won’t stand for this.”
“Oh?” Adreanna raises a brow again, but her smile is unrestrained now, a whole grin, really, bursting all over her freckled face. It ruins the effect she was going for. But Akina is smiling back at her in that way, that way that makes her want to reach for her camera, or put paintbrush to canvas, or catch lightning in a bottle. So she doesn’t mind at all.
“And?” she challenges, holding Akina’s eyes. “What are you gonna do about it?”
Akina’s grin stretches even wider, glinting star-bright.
Like a struck match, Adreanna’s heart sparks to life.
~
The next day, Adreanna finds herself sitting on a curb, blinking in the brilliant noonday sun.
“Are you sure we’re not going to get run over?” she calls out. Akina had said that this was a quiet road, but Adreanna has her doubts that anywhere in Boston is really quiet.
Akina is sitting in the middle of the street, brows furrowed in focus as she pulls a rollerblade onto her foot. At the sound of Adreanna’s voice, she rolls her eyes, but in the next moment, she sends a grin in her direction. “Do you think I’d bring you somewhere where you’d get run over?”
“I don’t know,” Adreanna says, smiling back. “You might be a faerie hunter. Maybe you’ve been buttering me up this whole time, and now you’re ready to strike.”
That makes Akina laugh raucously, throwing her head back. The sun brightens the soft skin of her throat, turns the ends of her dark hair to a glowing amber. Adreanna’s stomach gives a helpless flutter.
“D,” she says at last, fixing her eyes upon Adreanna’s face, a fond smile playing around her mouth, “do you really think I’d do all this buttering up just to let some soccer mom’s Subaru squish you into siren dust? I would hope you’d have more faith in my faerie-hunting abilities than that.”
“Well, I’ve never seen you carrying around any iron daggers.”
“That’s because I’ve been hiding them from you, dummy. Why would I show my weapons to my prey?”
Adreanna can’t help chuckling. She’s never been a giggly kind of girl—far, far from it—but here it feels simple, natural, easy as breathing. Everything feels that way with Akina.
“Why didn’t you stab me in my sleep last night and save yourself the trouble?” Then Adreanna’s grin widens, showing bright white teeth. For a moment, Akina imagines them in their other form—sharp and pointed as a shark’s. Adreanna’s smile is certainly shark-like now, brimming with smug glee. “Oh, right.”
“Hey.” Akina points a finger at her. “It’s not my fault the movie you picked was boring as hell.”
“It was not.” Adreanna is still grinning. “You just have the bedtime of a toddler.”
“Do not.”
“Do too. You were out by eleven.”
“Was not!”
“I couldn’t say it if it wasn’t true.”
Akina rolls her eyes, pretending she isn’t trying not to laugh. “Stupid faerie laws,” she mutters. “Now stop being a smartass and get over here.”
She brandishes a second pair of rollerblades in Adreanna’s direction. Adreanna eyes them with an expression of distinct wariness, the same way she sometimes looks when Akina bursts into her dorm room at seven in the morning with a freshly-brewed potion she insists Adreanna needs to drink.
Akina huffs, playfully exasperated. “Drea, really. Rollerblading is not going to cut your glorious immortal life short.”
Adreanna’s brows raise. “Maybe not, but I have a feeling it might decimate my glorious immortal pride.”
Akina giggles as she stands and skates over to the curb in one fluid motion. She crouches down before Adreanna, not even flinching at the heat of the blistering pavement pressing against her bare knee, and grabs for her ankle. Adreanna, despite herself, allows her shoe to be tugged off, her foot to be guided into the rollerblade.
“Don’t be nervous,” Akina says, catching Adreanna’s eyes. She leans forward and places a kiss on Adreanna’s knee. “I’ll be there to catch you.”
Adreanna’s hand comes to settle on top of Akina’s. “I know you will,” she says, very softly, almost too quiet to hear. But Akina always hears her.
~
Hours later, they’re plunging through the sunset-lit streets, the summer air humming with the raucous, joyful sound of their laughter.
The learning process was slow-going, at first. Once the rollerblades were on her feet, Adreanna’s otherworldly siren grace seemed to evaporate, leaving her with all the elegance of a newborn fawn. (Akina would be lying if she said she didn’t think it was hilarious.) It took her near half an hour to work up the courage to let go of Akina’s hands. The sailing didn’t get much smoother from there—despite Akina’s best attempts to keep her earlier promise, Adreanna’s freckled legs are spotted with half a dozen bruises, and her knees are raw and red with streaks of blood that shimmer faintly blue in the golden light.
Adreanna doesn’t seem to mind any of it, though. Embarrassed colour rushes to her cheeks at first, but soon, each fall only seems to make her more determined.
“You okay?” Akina asks over and over, crouching down beside her, a note of panic creeping into her voice each time. And each time, Adreanna’s eyes blaze fiercely up at her from the pavement, her grin ferocious and beautiful. Each time, she reaches out a hand, her sleeves stained from dabbing at her bloody knees.
“Again,” she says, dauntless. “Let’s go again.”
Akina swears she’s never been more in love.
And soon, Adreanna is getting it. She starts falling less and less, her movements growing smoother, more confident. Before either of them know it, she’s coasting from one side of the street to another, delighted by her own abilities. Akina isn’t sure she’s ever heard her sound as excited as she does when she’s calling out, “Kina, look! Look! I’m doing it!”
By the time the sun is sinking toward the horizon and the world turns golden as honey around them, Adreanna is able to keep pace with Akina as they whirl through the streets, her hair a brilliant red banner whipping behind her in the wind, her laugh so contagious Akina feels like she can’t catch her breath.
They roll to a stop at a stop sign, even though there’s no cars in sight, as though the entire world belongs to them. Adreanna drifts close enough to grab Akina by the waist and tugs her close, revelling in the surprised little sound that bursts from Akina’s mouth in the moment before their lips meet. Akina tastes sweet and cherry-tart, and her skin is pillowy-soft beneath Adreanna’s hands. She never, ever wants to let go.
But soon their heads are beginning to spin from the lack of oxygen and she thinks a car might have pulled up behind them after all, because she distantly hears something that sounds like a horn honking. They pull apart with a gasp, and for a good long moment, all Adreanna can do is stare. And all Akina can do is stare back.
The car behind them honks again. Shrieking with laughter, hands intertwined, they take off like a shot.
~
“Aren’t you going to thank me?” Akina asks at one point. The sky is beginning to go purple at the edges, and they’ve slowed down, gliding lazily by the side of the road, like leaves floating in a meandering river current.
Adreanna lets out a breathless laugh. She didn’t think she had any more laughter left in her, after today, but Akina just keeps pulling them out of her, like rabbits out of a hat. “For what?”
Akina shoves her shoulder. “For making you do this, obviously.”
Adreanna pulls Akina’s hand to her mouth. “There’s a lot more to thank you for than just that.”
Akina blushes as pink as the cotton candy clouds hanging over their heads. “Adreanna Bell, don’t tell me you’re getting sentimental.”
“Akina O’Connell, that is entirely your fault.”
Giggling quietly, feet aching with the most satisfying kind of pain, hearts full to bursting, the world dimming around them, they drift toward home.

the magic gang: character intros
after rambling incoherently about the magic gang for weeks, i finally decided to sit down and make an intro post for them! i wasn’t a big fan of how their picrews turned out, so you’re gonna get fake tweets instead!
they don’t belong to any particular WIP — they just live in a universe that is basically an amalgamation of some of @gaybigael's & my favourite fictional universes and attend a boarding school for magical creatures. and i like to write about their various shenanigans. :)
everything to do with them can be found under the tags magic gang, circle of hurt (an ongoing piece about them that will be posted on tumblr eventually), and their individual tags (linked below)
i don’t know if i should make a taglist for them (let me know if you want to be on one!) but i’ll tag a couple people who seemed interested in them under the cut!
Tumblr media
ADREANNA BELL
(aka: Drea, Dre, and D, because her friends never actually call her by her given name. also countless 'little mermaid' nicknames, because they annoy her and Caelan finds that greatly amusing).
Species: Siren
Powers: Can shift into a more inhuman 'siren form' when submerged in water; hypnotic singing; and the deadly siren's kiss, which allows her to steal musical memories from people's minds.
Rapid-fire backstory description: Her siren mother abandoned her and her human father when she was a baby. Because of this, her father was extremely distant throughout her entire childhood and taught her to hide her powers at all times.
Rapid-fire personality description: Artistic, mysterious, distant, self-loathing but not in a dramatic way, thinks she doesn't have emotions (is consistently proven wrong). Likes sketching and photography (and obviously music).
Tumblr media
LILLIAN CARSTAIRS
Species: Nephilim
Powers: The ability to use runes
Rapid-fire backstory description: Nothing special — she was born into a Nephilim family and her parents are divorced, but she's not angsty about it
Rapid-fire personality description: can and will cut you, not afraid of anything, brash, sharp-tongued, swears like a sailor, pretends not to love her friends, actually loves them very much
Tumblr media
CAELAN QUINN
Species: Light elf
Powers: Can control light — he likes to turn invisible to scare people, and has a tendency to glow when he's excited
Rapid-fire backstory description: Was born in Norway and had a very privileged upbringing in California.
Rapid-fire personality description: Not afraid of anything, but in a dumb way; has about two brain cells on a good day; wants to make out with just about every person he ever sees; has never made a wise decision in his entire life; unfairly charming, friendly, and funny; easily the most popular member of the gang
Tumblr media
SABINA CONNERS
Species: Nature sprite
Powers: Can control plant life (& can fly a little with her wings)
Rapid-fire backstory description: She grew up in a remote faerie village in rural Ireland, with zero human contact.
Rapid-fire personality description: The sweetheart of the group, giggly, bubbly, unfailingly kind, a little bit naive, fascinated by everything to do with humans
Tumblr media
LEONARDO "LEO" ALMEIDA SOLANO
Species: Water sprite
Powers: Can control water (to an extent)
Rapid-fire backstory description: His biological (faerie) family abandoned him in the human world as a baby, and he was subsequently taken into a human family who raised him in Brazil.
Rapid-fire personality description: Levelheaded, easygoing, the group therapist/the one who keeps the others from going to jail or the hospital, possesses most of the group's communal brain cells (he usually shares them with Adreanna), eternally fed up with their shit but also will follow them to the ends of the earth
Tumblr media
EMRYS ASHFALL
Species: Faerie
Powers: Glamouring
Rapid-fire backstory description: Grew up in Faerieland as a member of a prominent noble family.
Rapid-fire personality description: romantic, creative, sometimes talks like he's in a Shakespeare play, likes to write poetry, is basically a Disney prince come to life but with 50000x more respect for women, one of those guys who will start talking about how much he loves his girlfriend completely unprompted
Tumblr media
AKINA O'CONNELL
Species: Witch
Powers: Telekinesis, and the ability to cast spells & brew potions
Rapid-fire backstory description: Her mother is a witch and her father is human; her parents divorced when she was little and she was raised by her dad.
Rapid-fire personality description: sweet, shy, indecisive, head in the clouds, always in some sort of romantic predicament
Tumblr media
NIKOLAI "NIK" PETROV
Species: Human (Changeling)
Powers: None
Rapid-fire backstory description: He was born into a normal human family in Russia, but as a baby was stolen by faeries who adopted him as their own child & raised him in Faerieland.
Rapid-fire personality description: Moody, snappish, sharp-tongued, incredibly closed-off but also incredibly sensitive, doesn't trust easily, has a lot of emotional Turmoil™️ around the concept of magic and magical creatures

i'll tag a couple people who seemed interested in finding out more about them (i hope that's okay!)

manuscript search xxxvi
this one is from @solipsism-lemonade ! thanks for tagging me :)
my words are bread, surface, beneath, stack, and aim
bread (from Night’s Daughter):
Across from me, Maia’s slender brows furrow at whatever she sees on my face. “Everything alright?”
“Yes, of course,” I say a little too quickly. I chase the words with a smile and a piece of bread shoved into my mouth so I don’t have to say any more. To avoid her eyes, I look back out the window, watching the gardeners scurrying about the princess’s garden.
surface x2 (from Laid Bare):
When something finally breaks the water’s surface, Akina is startled enough that she stops singing, but not startled enough to jump back. She stares at the hand as it reaches for the boulder — at the familiar freckles replaced by shining blue scales; at the delicate webbing between the fingers; at the sharp claws tipping each nail.
A head surfaces next, and Akina’s heart pounds in her chest. Water streams from long waves of soaked auburn hair, hanging limply around a face that is at once achingly familiar and blindingly inhuman.
It’s still Adreanna, somehow. Despite the pearlescent scales sweeping along her chin, her cheekbones, her forehead; despite the strange shape of her ears, like the fins of a fish; despite the eerie, piercing blue glow in the depths of her eyes.
She is stunning enough to take Akina’s breath away. Adreanna has always possessed a magnetic beauty, but this is something else entirely. She is riveting, enchanting, terrifying. Not of this world.
beneath (from Night’s Daughter):
Brittle leaves crunch beneath my feet as I make my way to the edge of the stream. [...] Summer has not yet officially passed, but autumn has already begun to take its hold — chilling the air, frosting the grass, colouring the leaves. In Ayera, the changing of the seasons lies in the hands of the seasonal gods: four squabbling siblings, each one more fickle and jealous than the last. Throughout the year, they pass a magical object, the Stone of the Seasons — possessing a power so great that mortals cannot know its true name — between themselves. Only the god in possession of the Stone is able to usher in their season, but the siblings are notorious for stealing it from each other, tugging it back and forth like children quarrelling over a toy.
It seems now that flame-haired Aithne, the goddess of autumn, has snatched the Stone from her sunny brother, Elios, before it was her time to have it.
stack (from Night’s Daughter):
When I start to stand, my knee hits the stack of books, sending them toppling. The light disappears from where it shone on my hand.
Confused, I lean toward the scattered pile — and then I see it.
The light glowing from the pages of one of the books.
Another bolt of lightning cracks through the sky. The jagged light shines upon the book’s cover — upon the goddess who graces it.
Even though Naeva’s painted eyes are staring up at the ceiling, I suddenly have the distinct, hair-raising sensation of being watched.
aim (from Night’s Daughter):
“You must understand,” Aedan says, drawing my attention to him once more. Uncertainty has begun to creep into his face, making him look younger, more vulnerable. “I don’t want you to think of me as being so… so calculating, so callous, as to rip you from everything you knew just to suit my own interests.” His gaze drops to his hands. I watch as he turns his ring so that his family crest faces toward him, gleaming in the light. His mouth tightens. “That may have been true of many of my predecessors, but I do not wish to be like them. I aim to be better.”
i'll tag @drippingmoon @chaotic-queer-disaster @ren-c-leyn @corishadowfang & @charlie---writes (+ open tag!)
new words: rip, scatter, chill, delicate, & chase !

last line tag xv
still haven't added to ND, but the last line tags are piling up and i'm starting to sweat. also i'm grasping at anything that will let me procrastinate on schoolwork. i was tagged by @zmlorenz (you tagged me literally 0.2 sec after i posted this so i'm shoehorning you in here) @sleepyowlwrites @magic-is-something-we-create @letswritestories101 & probably a few more people i'm missing. sorry about that!
here's a long excerpt from the last things i added to laid bare (my little Kina & Drea piece).
to recap: Adreanna is a cagey siren who routinely disappears on full moon nights, and Akina is her witch girlfriend who decided to go looking for her and has just lured her out of the lake with a song. now, it's time for answers.
“It’s the moon,” Adreanna says.
“Does it happen every month?” Akina asks, as though she doesn’t already know that it does. As though Adreanna’s mysterious disappearances every month don’t prick away at her heart every passing moment until she returns.
“Yes.” Adreanna turns her head slightly. The moonlight catches a wild auburn curl, the wet shine of scales on her cheek, the fish-fin-shaped edge of her ear. “It tugs on the tides, and the tides tug on us, drawing us toward the water. It feels like…” Adreanna hesitates, struggling to describe the sensation.
Akina suddenly remembers when she used to go to the woods with her father to feed wild birds. Right now, she feels the same way she did the first time a chickadee landed in her outstretched palm. She hardly dares to breathe for fear of startling Adreanna back into her shell; for fear of shattering this moment that feels as delicate as spun glass.
“It feels like being pulled by a magnet,” Adreanna says at last. “Every cell in your body aches to be under the waves. It takes everything in you to resist the call of the water.”
A shiver streaks down Akina’s spine. “The way siren song is for everyone else?” she asks quietly.
Adreanna looks taken aback. “I never thought about it like that,” she says, seeming surprised by herself as well as by Akina. She considers a moment longer, and then, inexplicably, the tiniest of smiles ghosts over her mouth. “I suppose so. Yes, it’s exactly like that.”
that was a lot longer than i expected it to be, but i had to fit the context in there. anyways! i will tag @drippingmoon @cream-and-tea @chaotic-queer-disaster @twoseeds @akindofmagictoo + open tag for whoever else wants to share their latest writing w me :)

manuscript search xlvi
merry christmas to everyone who celebrates it!!! i have a very seasonally appropriate word search from @sleepyowlwrites :) my words are sweet, snow, smile, shine, and save.
These excerpts (with the exception of one from ND) are from my unfinished magic gang Christmas piece!!
sweet (context: Sabina said “Let’s do Secret Santa” and Caelan abruptly remembered that he forgot to buy a present. His logical solution to the problem was to fake appendicitis. As one does. Leo isn’t buying it.)
The group watched as [Nik and Caelan] left the room, their footsteps padding softly up the stairs before fading away. Silence reigned in the living room until Adreanna reached out to give Sabina’s hand a quick, apologetic squeeze. “Looks like Secret Santa is postponed. Sorry, Sab.”
Although Sabina was quick to offer up her characteristic sweet smile, it didn’t disguise the trace of disappointment in her eyes. “No, it’s alright! I wouldn’t want to do it when Caelan is feeling unwell. It’s nobody’s fault; just something that can’t be helped.”
“Yeah,” Leo muttered under his breath. “Definitely something that can’t be helped.”
snow x3:
The snow had started sometime in the early hours of the morning and showed no signs of stopping. It piled up along windowsills and eaves and tree branches, filled every gust of blustering wind, blanketed everything in pure, sparkling white. It was the heaviest snow they’d seen that year. Caelan, Californian boy that he was, had been extremely taken with it until Adreanna had sent him out to shovel the driveway. He’d returned red and sniffling through his complaints (“I’m a light elf, Dre, you can’t just throw me out into the cold like that—” “You’re Norwegian!”) and shaking snowflakes out of his hair.
smile (Caelan trying to backpedal from the aforementioned fake appendicitis uproar):
“Should I call 911?” Adreanna asked, already reaching for her phone.
“No!” Caelan exclaimed. At the others’ confused looks, he hastily added, “It’s not that big of a deal. Really.”
“Yes, it is!” Akina cried. “Your appendix could rupture! People have died!”
“They’ve what?” Nik looked horrified.
“Drea, you should call,” Lillian chimed in.
“Wait, don’t!” Pushing Nik aside, Caelan darted forward to snatch the phone from Adreanna’s hand. “I don’t think it’s appendicitis. I’m already starting to feel better. My stomach doesn’t even really hurt anymore.”
There was a beat of silence.
“Really?” Akina asked finally.
“Yeah, honestly. And I’m not feverish, either. I guess you were right, Nikky.” Caelan shot a smile in Nik’s direction, but Nik did not look impressed.
shine (this one is from Night’s Daughter):
Aedan is the absolute image of [King Carrick]—the same handsome, although ageing face; the same olive skin and hazel eyes; the same brown hair, albeit longer and greying slightly at the temples, upon which his crown is nestled. It is a thing of dangerous beauty, the points carving into onyx and silver spikes that shine darkly in the light that filters down from the spaces in the ceiling. It looks lethal, more like a weapon than an ornament.
save (Leo was just chewing Caelan out for scaring everyone):
Letting out a melodramatic moan, Caelan grabbed a pillow and threw it over his face. “Stop being mean to me,” he complained, voice muffled. “I’m in a crisis. I saved my own ass tonight, but I don’t know how much longer I can fake this before someone else catches on. Or Akina hauls me off to the hospital.”
“Here’s an idea,” Leo said. “Why don’t you just buy the present?”
It was Caelan’s turn to glare; he lowered the pillow from his face just long enough to pin Leo with one. “Wow. Genius. What an excellent idea, Leonardo, I can’t believe I never thought of that before.”
happy holidays everyone!!
i will tag @akindofmagictoo @solipsism-lemonade @chaotic-queer-disaster @cream-and-tea and @zmlorenz to find the same words (sweet, snow, smile, shine, and save), bc i like Sleepy's words and i am also lazy.
