sorry I shot your boyfriend with an acid rifle. I saw him on the beach hugging you and I thought he was the evil war mongering president imprisoning you in his arms because he was wearing the same uniform. He's in a coma now and we don't know if he will ever wake up but he keeps searching for you in his Voice. I'm really sorry

Dare I say that the reason Mayor Prentiss goes mad is because he tries to hard to control the Noise, or, in regards to the trilogy's theme, he tries so hard to follow the rules of Toxic Masuclinty which is an impossible task. The Mayor is a control freak, he loves no one and cares for no one but himself. He kills his own son to reach his final goal (to control everything) but then comes Todd whom he can't help but love (and I think Davy's death accelerated this). But he spent so much time making himself feel nothing that all this love comes pouring out of him and I don't mean it in some touching, heartfelt way. I mean like when you put a bottle of water in the freezer and it explodes. Feeling nothing isn't salvattion, it's destruction.

Sometimes I'll just be living my life and then "the Return used to be shy, before everything he used to be shy" will sucker-punch me in the gut

How do you think Lyla would act around regressed Miguel? I think she's a mix between fun big sister and sweet overprotective sister
Like I can totally see her cheering Miggy on as he tries to eat as many gummy worms as he possibly can but also comforting him when he eventually gets a bad tummy ache from the sheer amount he ate (and fight anyone who says that it was stupid of him, her #1 defense being "hes just a little guy! >:(")
I just really love the thought of Lyla interacting with regressed Miguel sjskskslla
Mwah mwah mwah/platonic -🐀
Lyla is definitely the chaotic (or chaos encouraging) older sister to Miguel XD
Regressed Miguel: I bet I could fit 40 marshmallows in my mouth
Regressed Patrick: you’re a goofball
Lyla: and a coward, do 50

The lowkey sci-fi horror of KJ—who doesn’t want to know, who doesn’t care, who doesn’t need to see that—walking down a hall her parents have turned into a Museum of KJ Brandman Moments to the eeriest score in the whole season. This show. This fucking show.

This will likely resonate with a pretty small group of people but... (vague spoilers for The Chaos Walking series and the Xenoblade Chronicles game series up to mid Chapter 5 of XC3).
Rereading The Knife of Never Letting Go for the first time in a decade while playing through Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is... an interesting experience. It’s made me realize how much I appreciate stories in which the main characters have to completely reconceptualize their entire understanding of their world. I’m only halfway through the book and partway through Chapter 5 of the game, but the similarities are striking - not in their plots, but in the ways the protagonists are confronted by reality. Todd has never seen a real child younger than himself until he sets out on his journey, and the party in XC3 don’t even understand the concept of children. Todd’s surprise and confusion at seeing Viola and the women he meets throughout the book reminded me of how the XC3 crew reacts to see “old” people older than themselves, as most of the party are nearing the end of their lifespans. Both of the fake narratives also perpetuate cycles of violence (i.e., violence against the Spackle and women, and violence against their opponents, respectively), which lead the characters to confront the violence they’ve committed in the name of this lie.
While the realizations that happen in these stories are vastly different in scale (i.e., one teenager realizing he’s been lied to vs an entire society), engaging with these two narratives made me realize just how much I enjoy these kinds of stories. Everyone loves a plot twist, but these narratives are set apart by the scale of the deception and the purpose behind it. Deception and twists in stories like Shutter Island and The Usual Suspects are excellent, but they are ultimately for the gain or benefit (?) of a single character. While Todd is the main individual targeted by the lies in his story, his ignorance is part of a much larger system of control and oppression. And the XC3 lies act to corrupt not one, but two large societies.
There are a million other things I could say about this, and I’m sure writers much more knowledgeable than myself have written about this type of story. I can’t help but wonder what it is that attracts us to these narratives where we discover that the story world is not what we or the characters thought it was.

i still haven't beaten frontiers but i'm...curious to how long everyone was gone
people probably wouldn't bat an eye to sonic being gone for a bit since that's just his lifestyle. but tails and amy? eggman?
i can imagine someone, probably rouge and/or shadow thinking that eggman is up to something only to. not see him anywhere, so they try to locate sonic but find nothing. they try tails. again, nothing
i feel like they'd get suspicious when they can't find amy and try looking for knuckles, only to be surprised to find him gone too
man, now i'm curious to not only how long they were gone but also how everyone is gonna react once they're back
