2023 fic roundup

phew!!! i wrote for four different fandoms this year, which is utterly wild to me given that most years i am writing for one or maybe two...but no, this year we went wild - bnha, genshin, trigun, and blue lock

so without further ado, my faves from each month:

jan 2023: i've made mistakes (but you were not one) - chaeya, i really hit my chaeya stride by this point and frankly i ADORED writing this fic, which was my first t4t chaeya fic !!!!

feb 2023: everything i ask for (and so much more) - chiluc, based on a scenario that my mom said she 'always wanted to see happen at a wedding' which rly made me laugh and thus i had to write it !!!

mar 2023: don't rush - kaeluc (and dilucest?), i just really enjoyed stretching my skills on this one in the vibes and also just. the mechanics of everything?

apr 2023: oh gods, there's two of them - cynonaribedo, which was just SO much fun after that event to consider how they'd interact and what shenanigans they'd get up to. also the smut was a fun challenge lmao

may 2023: don't be too good to me - vashwood, my first canon-universe fic for these silly guys that let me really explore the angst and also some of the lightheartedness

jun 2023: in your dreams - kaisagi !!!!! my first bllk fic!!! these two idiots make me feral !!!! they're so angsty and silly and i love them so much, i had a blast trying my hand at them!!

jul 2023: dark blue - kaisae, my last-minute final fic for kaisae july and the one that i reread and think about regularly lmao. one of my rare 2nd person pov fics, i had so much fun with teasing out all the imagery and emotions

aug 2023: but i'm losing blood and you're warm - bachisagi, currently my only bcis fic but my god was it SO fun to write, i loved getting to play in the horror genre a little and mixing that with romance and just UGH definitely up there as a fave

sept 2023: consumption - kaisagi, like what can i say except (pun intended) this premise consumed me so bad that i wrote it out of order bc i was so hooked on one particular scene. this whole story rly had me in a chokehold in the best way

oct 2023: pink light - ryusae, this is rly my favorite ryusae fic i've written to date. something about the premise and the gentleness and the second chances of it all just really got to me, i loved writing this so much

nov 2023: KNOCK.ME.OUT - ryurin, oh my god this fic....i reread this fic like every couple days for WEEKS after i finished writing it. more than i've reread any other fic, and purely out of a desire to just. live inside the story again. i loved it so much. up there with pink light as a fave for sure

dec 2023: tie me down (fuck me up) - saesagi, which like i feel like i went on a whole Journey abt saesagi within my brain and this is what came out. i rly enjoyed trying my hand at a new dynamic and taking sae out of his place of control for once !!!!

452,082 words posted this year across 58 fics, 24 ships, and, as mentioned, four fandoms. ended up around 8.7k kudos + 81k hits

some honorable mention fics:

good directions - vashwood, and a fic concept i've been dying to write for ages, which just happened to work incredibly well with vashwood

kinda complicated - plantwood, which was really just an excuse to write so much porn for them lmao but i had a great time both with that and the complex dynamics between the three of them

a tentative ellipsis - kaisae, cause i can't say EVERY kaisae july fic, but this one also was such fun to think about and write, just like. the premise and the execution were so [shakes them in a pickle jar]

we both got stories (but they're not the same) - kaisae, this premise rly cracked me up i had SUCH fun writing it and getting a little silly with it lskdjfklsdjf especially with kaiser and all his denial

make me love like i want to - kaisae/ryusae, which honestly all manifested out of like. the one scene in the fic where sae writes not dead on his arm. and that ballooned into an entire almost 30k story about soulmates that ended up being unexpectedly cathartic

sometimes i wish she was you - tabieita, idk this one really got me??? i had a blast writing karasu's point of view and his manipulative little shit attitude lmao

CHILUC MY LOVELIESSS

they are actually my favorite ship from anything ever AND I'M A SPIRK ENJOYER

I liked Chiluc back before it blew up and I'm honestly SOOO glad it did. It's like the only popular ship that I actually actively enjoy and there's so much content for it. It's so nice. Mainly liking rarepairs is a STRUGGLE in this fandom, or any really (/lh).

But anyways just THEMMMSNAKSKNSHEJSKKS

I could go about them for ages, and I WILL!!!!

the sexual chemistry they would have?? Literally they'd be the embodiment of the "you wanna kiss me so bad it makes you look stupid" interaction. I cannot stress that enough

the similarities in their storyyyy. Both joining military forces early in their lives. Diluc was cavalry captain at 14, meaning he probably had to be in the knights for a bit before that even, and Childe was sent off to the Fatui around that age too. They both have complicated relationships with their family just in different ways.

AND ON THAT TOPIC: I think that's something that would add to their dynamic. Family is important to Childe and I think he'd be so confused as diluc and kaeya's relationship for a WHILE. Once they.would start getting more familiar with each other it would probably create more tension oml

AND ANDDD the prospect of them meeting while diluc was in Snezhnaya??? A FUCKING AMAZING CONCEPT THAT ADDS SM DEPTH I LOVE IT SMMM

There's so much about them, so much. I rly don't have time to get into it all. I used to have a list about them. I need to remake it

Also, my favorite chiluc author is definitely funkyfreshalien on ao3 (they've moved their works off of ao3 but you can still get to them through ao3. Note: a good chunk of it has sex involved but there's a few that are sfw). THEY GET THEMMM (also trans diluc <3)

Eldritch Diluc and his Kaeya are the most likely to reconcile, they're both just terrified to approach eachother

Leyline Diluc and his Kaeya are in a middle, they have a truce but they're not close, though they could be close again if they ever break their standstill

Asmoday Diluc and his Kaeya... are the least likely to reconcile, because of Kaeya being Crepus's favorite and Diluc being Asmoday's there was already a rift between them from the start, and when Asmoday disappeared Crepus's terrible parenting drove this rift even further apart. there's also Kaeya always saying something vague about Asmoday's disappearance in an insulting way and Diluc getting easily offended by it, all in all these two won't reconcile until Asmoday somehow comes back and puts some sense into them both

also a little idea! Eldritch Diluc and Klee imagine Alice finds out Diluc's real mature and sees that he really doesn't mean any harm, he just wants to vibe while existing, so she sends a letter to Mondstadt, shortly after he arrived, to Albedo explaining that Diluc can be trusted with Klee if Albedo isnt available

and another fact Eldritch Diluc is good with kids, in fact in general: Diluc or almost any variation of him i headcanon to be good with kids, he's just a little emotionally inept which leads to the Diona situation where he just doesn't know how to properly approach and thinks she genuinely hates him but if a kid warms up to him you bet he's gonna be their second dad

he also gets along with Barbara because he's also close to Bennett, Razor and Fischl in this one, he saves them from situations far too often to count and so bringing them to the cathedral is habit at this point,

also Diluc learning healing magic (or atleast the way healing magic works so he can replicate it) from Barbara and them bonding over music (because the world sings to Diluc, and Diluc doesn't know who to share these melodies with :( well until he met Barbara, won't share em with Venti, he has distrust towards Celestia stuff)

Eldritch Diluc and Barbara remaking those melodies at the dawn winery or at the cathedral, both of them happy, especially Diluc as he gets to share a piece of him with someone who can understand that piece

in general i think he bonds well with the Bennett, Razor and Fischle trio because they're all outsiders in their own eccentric ways, while he bonds with Barbara over the fact they both have a strained relationship with someone they used to be close to

i think Eldritch Diluc trusted Kaeya enough to show him the true skies and even made a little snow globe thing with a miniature version of them inside, Kaeya still keeps that snow globe/star globe close to his heart and makes sure it's spotless

If they ever reconcile i think Diluc would show Kaeya the true skies again when he begins to trust Kaeya once more, a clear sign he trusts Kaeya again because the sight of the true skies is something dear to Diluc, he was born in the confirms of the universe's corners after all, a place far from Tevyat's and Celestia's reach

also i main ship Kaeluc if u didn't know, but i enjoy Chiluc, Albeluc and even Zhongluc as well! i enjoy both familial and romantic dynamics of Kaeya and Diluc as i don't really strictly see them as siblings, more like childhood friends that grew up together, anyways, Chiluc spicy, enemies to friends to lovers type of thing, very nice, very cool!!

So I'm kinda gonna draw a line here. Because I've been avoiding talking about it cause I feel it's more complicated than people understand.

I don't like Kaeluc. It makes me very uncomfortable. I understand that the sworn brother thing has cultural significance, making that ship more popular in Asia. But it still makes me really uncomfortable. I don't understand it. Even if they aren't blood-related, how you can see someone who was strictly raised as a foster sibling from such a young age like that? And personally, I don't think the personalities work in the way. It just makes me feel very, very gross

So well, I wouldn't dream of taking that ship from you, if it makes you happy and you are not hurting anyone with it. Please do not bring anything Kaeluc here.

You can send your ideas in, but please please keep any Kaeluc aspects to yourself or your own blog.
