Sorry to spam u BUT Bato trying to regain mobility in his hand after his burns and the way he does this is by braiding Hakoda’s hair,, Hakoda always has at least two in his hair for months afterwards. Thoughts??

No no col I absolutely adore your asks please you can spam whenever hehe !! But Y E S okay??? Hair is so important to me period so just the fact that Bato probably does the single strands first (you know like straight down) and they’re not too small. To be honest they’re not perfect either but Hakoda wears them proudly and Bato finds it so embarrassing because he thinks they’re so bad but Hakoda is like nope I’m keeping them in. It takes a few months but soon enough he masters fixing the long braids. He’s lucky that Hakoda’s hair isn’t as long as his too so it doesn’t take to long to do the braids. Then !! He starts to do cornrows and it’s so challenging and so rewarding at the same time. The braids are so sloppy and Hakoda’s like what the hell? but in about six months Bato has perfected the braids, with little need for breaks when he’s braiding. He’s so so happy. And Hakoda loves wearing the cornrows with his two braids down and it’s so GOOD AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH please I love hair so much hehe

HI OMG IM SO GLAD UR BACK!!!!! OKAY this is a long one but think of this,, like a year post canon, pre relationship Bato and Hakoda go the earth kingdom for some negotiations or whatever. They get there and the guy in charge of making sure their stay is comfortable just INSTANTLY gets the biggest crush on Bato, which means when he’s assigning rooms Bato gets the absolute best one w all the works. Hakoda... gets the one w a bird poop problem. But OF COURSE this means Hakoda decides he can just crash in Bato’s room... 👀

Omg hehehehe this is just jealous Hakoda in the making. Bato has probably given up on hope at having anything with Hakoda that’s more than friends so he’s flirting so hard with the man in charge. I mean he does have a thing for men in power so are we surprised? And so they flirt endlessly. And Hakoda has no idea why he hates it but he continues to crash in Bato’s room for the first week and a half of the two weeks that they’re there. And then,,, Bato starts sleeping with the man and Hakoda is like *status quo from hsm style* NO NO NO and that’s when it hits him wait,,, wait wait I like Bato. And shit he can’t do anything about it now because Bato clearly has a thing for this man but when they get back to the swt,,, Bato is like dude that was just a fling I’ve literally been in love with you for almost two decades and Hakoda’s like ha.. HA

Mirror by colorfulmagic is so beautiful. I can’t stress enough how much I love this fic (and if I yell about it on twitter at least once a day well...). It’s a “through the years” fic and it does not sideline Kya in the slightest. I love the way she was written into the story. It’s from Bato’s perspective! And is just an all-around joyride! Warning for Explicit Content. 

Chief by lovewillcomeandfindme is so GOOD ! This one is Hakoda’s perspective and is a getting-together fic. It does an amazing job of showing us the series of emotions Hakoda feels when Bato’s not with him.

on jail cells, campsites, and family by dyoxyys brings the invasion to the finale in Hakoda’s point of view and sure it moves a bit quickly but it never feels not right. I love this so much hehe!

taking care by vaenire is so intimate and well written. I think this is one of the most in character fics I’ve ever read. It shows both Hakoda and Bato being as stubborn as ever but Hakoda is helping Bato care for his burns! 

Fleshwound Lady_of_the_Flowers I love stubborn Hakoda! And here, he’s expressing self-doubt but also being incredibly stubborn and it just fits so well that I love this!

I HC that at some point Hakoda definitely does something stupid and nearly dies trying to save the Bato. And there's so much aftermath to deal with, Bato feels incredibly guilty that Hakoda did that and they both have a lot of arguments because Hakoda insists he would do it again. Eventually Bato sees that he would've done the same but he'd never really considered Hakoda would do that for him. Hakods is annoyed because of course he would he loves Bato so much.

This isn't necesarily,,, exactly on topic but this reminds me of this line from Mirror by colorfulmagic on ao3 (which I literally cannot get enough of. Seriously it's so good):

"I would set myself on fire, if you asked, and I know intimately what that feels like. I've loved you my whole life, and I will love you until I die, and if there is a life after that I will love you in that as well. That’s the truth." - Bato to Hakoda when Hakoda asks why Bato stuck around after how bad he was after Kya's death.

I feel like it's always going to be, I'd do anything for you. I'd die a million times if it meant you'd live a full lifetime between them and it's so good? because it can be unbearable. Knowing someone is willing to put their life on the line for you. And it's vise versa yes but it's so scary knowing your love is that important to another person. God I just really really am thinking of the arguments they have about it. Because Hakoda can't keep putting himself in danger for him. Bato is one fucking man but Hakoda vows he'd do it all over again and wouldn't change a thing. And Bato knows that he'd do the same thing for Hakoda (if it meant Hakoda would live, I think Bato would [to quote col here again] set himself on fire despite being intimately aware of the feeling) but he never feels like he's worthy of that magnitude of love in return. Hakoda never knows how to tell Bato that he's fucking worth that and more and truth be told, he never truly believes it. He accepts it as the reality but it never settles into his mind that Hakoda loves him just as much as he loves Hakoda.
