He moved to the window, making sure to keep her hidden behind the panel, knowing how important her modesty was. "Is there a point to this gathering?" he asked.
"It's called Tanabata," she said, the obi disappearing from the corner of the screen.
Sesshoumaru scowled. "Does that mean there will be seven of them?"
There was a snort before her laughter filtered out from her changing spot. "It's not so literal."
"Explain."
Her laughter continued. "It's about star-crossed lovers. A princess and a cowherd. Her father doesn't approve, mostly because their love distracts them from their duties, so he separates them."
"A wise decision." A comb flew out from behind the screen, hitting him in the shoulder.
"It's true love, Sesshoumaru. Nothing can separate that." There was a flutter of silk. "Anyway, the princess spends all her time crying, and her father finally relents, allowing them to meet one night a year. Tonight." She stepped out from the screen, sunlight reflecting off her ebony locks, and for once, Sesshoumaru was at a loss for words.
She was beautiful.

I might have gone off the deep end with the angst on this one... Don't worry, my Queen of Fluff crown is still intact, it's just going to take us a little longer to get to the happy ending this time. And once the rest of the weekly prompts for @kagomes-hanakotobamatsuri drop, I'll counter it with some fluffy one-shots!
Summary: She continues to appear at his side, steadfast in her loyalty but veiled in lies and secrecy. Yet, as Sesshoumaru continues to stew from his hospital bed, he soon comes to realize there is no escaping the miko's care--no matter how hard he tries.

"What drugs have you given me?" he asked, teeth gnashing. "I cannot sense you. Or smell anything."
Her knuckles were white now, though she sighed and leaned back in her chair. "This hospital wasn't prepared for someone of your calibre to be admitted. We had to bring in a lot of the equipment from other specialists. None of the usual wards have been set up to separate you from everyone else, so dulling your senses was the only alternative."
Sesshoumaru growled again. His nerves were still frayed from waking up tied to the bed, and he wished to put his claws through something. "I am fully capable of healing on my own. Who are you to presume you know what is best for This One?"
"A friend."
Even without his senses, he could tell she was lying, and only the bonds around his wrists kept him from demanding the truth. During their few interactions in the past, he'd never known the miko to be deceptive, and it set his teeth on edge that she would keep something from him now—especially when it came to his own health.
"You should rest," she said, rising from her chair. "I'll let the nurses know you're coherent. They'll want to run some more tests."
"I will allow no one to touch me."
She paused at the door, shoulders squaring before she glared at him over her shoulder. "That's not up to you." Then she disappeared through the doorway, leaving Sesshoumaru alone with more questions than answers.

"Give me your gun." / "Fuck no." <—— What an opening! Not only did it make me chuckle, but I’m already intrigued. There are so many questions in my head about what is going on in this story and who is saying which line (because let’s be honest, both of these two are so stubborn that the request and the comeback could apply to either of them). Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us!
"I remind you that had I been so inclined, I could have already relieved you of your weapon.” / "You don't have to act so smug about it." <—— And the banter continues! These two communicate better with their actions than their words. I know the tendency is to write Sesshomaru as the stoic type, but Kagome is equally direct when it comes to her actions. It’s one of the reasons they work so well as a couple IMO. I’m loving the sass so much! You know me :) I’m always here for the salt or in this case the stubborn salt.
She'd also been dismayed to realize that his suit wasn't being used to give him the guise of a respectable physique. His current ensemble proved he was just as toned as the suit made him out to be. <—— Even with a GSW, this girl recognizes the thirst. I appreciate your consistency with Sesshomaru’s communication. He may be terse with her (probably annoyed that she hasn’t been more careful), yet his actions speak volumes about his character. He’s shielding her (or at least trying to). Also, your attention to detail is wonderful. I love how the scene is developing along with the narrative. You give us these little details that blossom into a full-blown picture. It adds an air of mystery to the unfolding story. Very cool!!!!
"The snark is unnecessary." <—— Um, excuse me, sir, the snark is ALWAYS necessary. LOL! Even when Kagome has to admit defeat (albeit in a small way and for a VERY good reason), she can’t just let it go. I love how in character they both feel, regardless of the modern setting. The essence of both characters really shines through in your writing.
The fact that he still had all his limbs was surprising. <—— OMG! This callback to canon is chef’s kiss! I’m sitting here cackling like the banshee writing those gossip columns! Almost snorted up my coffee on this one. Note to self, do not drink and read Sereia’s words
"Don't die," she blurted. / The corner tilted up into a smirk. "Always so selfless, detective." <—— These two! I know it seems weird to say, but I enjoy how this isn’t overly romanticized. This is gritty and dangerous and a struggle. Despite all that, these two still operate as a team. They are willing to compromise for each other. They communicate (not well, but they do!) and work with each other to navigate the situation. If that isn’t a healthy relationship, I don’t know what is! Yay for normalizing healthy relationships!!!!!

You lovable, selfless, STUPID, beautiful queen!!!!!!! Now I’m really on the edge of my seat wondering what is going to happen and how these two are going to come out on top…..

The token scowl. I’m so here for this. I knew it was coming after that killer (no pun intended) break that you left us all hanging on. I knew when he finally got to talk to her again he was going to be upset. This is a man of action and he’s about to act upon his feelings, especially those that are aimed at Kagome. I’m so ready for this!!!!
"She will be coming home with me." <—— WHAT?!?!?! What, Sereia? I thought the gunfire scene was intense. This man! THIS! This is why we love this man/demon/daiyokai! He lives his life with intent and right now he’s INTENT AF about Kagome. Don’t mind me while I flail around over here

"Only the best for you." <—— And that’s it! I’m done. My brain and heart have been overloaded with the overwhelming goodness that was this fic. The feels! OMG, dude, seriously, the feels! You are so clear and concise in your writing. The way you manage to convey an entire span of emotions through witty dialogue and a few expertly placed details is truly amazing! I’m just in awe. Going to be flailing about this one for a while.
