Trouble behind- Crowley looking at his own skull in s6e4, reflecting on the painful human life that he left behind.

Trouble ahead: The first time we found out Castiel had been working with Crowley at the end of s6e19, his stormy expression foreshadowing all the disasters to come for him.

Quoting myself: Crowley already accepted the status of being unloved and despised; the same fate had just started for Castiel.

"Trouble ahead, Trouble behind" comes from Casey Jones (Grateful Dead song, but I've only heard the Bob Dylon version).

"Trouble with you Is the trouble with me Got two good eyes But we still don't see Come round the bend You know it's the end The fireman screams And the engine just gleams

Driving that train High on cocaine Casey Jones you better Watch your speed Trouble ahead Trouble behind And you know that notion Just crossed my mind"

It is fitting also because Casey Jones was a heroic train engineer who was made to drive a train under stress, and due to the irresponsibility of others his train was bound to crash with another train at high speed. "Jones managed to avert a potentially disastrous crash through his exceptional skill at slowing the engine and saving the lives of the passengers at the cost of his own." (Wikipedia)

I had this funny imagine where a demon is complaining to Crowley about how Sam and Dean tortured him and Crowley is like "same here. You know what I did?" "What did you do, sir?" "I SHRUGGED IT OFF!"

Like Meg is crushing Crowley's internal organs and Crowley is just like bruh? Really? This is torture?

I laugh so hard thinking of that moment

Crowley wanting to use a speculum as a torture instrument. LMAO. That's what they use to give ladies and trans men, pap smears. Even during torture he makes innuendo jokes. Never change Crowley. Never change

When Crowley says his sources are unimpeachable it makes me wonder is he referring to himself? Because Crowley said in season 7 "I have it on good authority ..." and turns out Crowley was talking about his authority. Is Crowley talking about himself as an unimpeachable source?

I admire how good Crowley is at gathering information. Crowley sapta post about the Leviathans that explain that more

Guess I kind of lost my head

After he chops off the head of a shapeshifter that looks like him. What a witty line

I love how Cas is protecting Crowley 🥺 "Crowley's hidden from me" even though he knows where Crowley is

Crowley just had his suit dry cleaned and they had the audacity to mess it up? Unbelievable! How dare they

He leg sweeps Meg, grabs the knife, stands up in 2 seconds. The reaction time was impressive

Also when Cas says to Crowley leave them alone, there isn't much anger in Cas' eyes. Foreshadowing their partnership

Crowley was really good at acting worried about Cas having his fake bones. He didn't overact and he didn't underact either. Plus Crowley is able to create illusions of him being burned to ash. Can Crowley make other illusions?

As soon as Cas burned the fake bones Crowley reacted immediately. No hesitation. Was it planned? Or is Crowley quick on his feet? Either way it's impressive

Castiel and Crowley parallel each other. Both of them are good at making deception seem believable. They don't oversell themselves or undersell themselves. For example when Crowley saw the fake bones he didn't go into a wide eyed anxiety attack because that's not Crowley. He also didn't act calm and unbothered. He gulped and tried to bargain his way out of it

Parallel to that Cas was intelligent enough to be believably deceptive as well

It's amazing how similar they are

Another parallel in 4x18 Cas says he can't help but he does help

In 8x07 Dean says "Cas, no. You're not strong enough." and whilst they are Dean's words it again parallels the same idea in 4x18 that Cas can't help and yet he helps

I believe we are meant to see a relation between that quote and this scene

If we also factor in that Castiel is greatly weakened it is essentially saying that even weakened Cas is a force to be reckoned with

One more Crowstiel parallel.

As Godstiel Castiel said to the Winchesters: "If you rise up I will strike you down." Yet, despite 1) Sam stabbing Cas in the back, and 2) Winchesters enslaving Death and commanding "just kill him, now!" Castiel didn't harm them.

When Sam tried to assassinate Crowley and shot him with demon-trap bullet, and Crowley overpowered him, he said, "I could kill you, easiest thing in the world, just snap my fingers." But he didn't.

They both should have followed up on their own words but that's not the show that was made, just the one in my head.

Crowstiel parallels

An index

I don't know if these parallels are intentional on the part of the writers. I don't think so except for #5 being just plot armor of the "main characters".

Both dug a bullet out of their body to overcome their enemy

Both had appreciation of poetry (and the tendency to speak poetically)

They both Interrogated animals

Both are rebels on the grandest scale

Both Let Winchesters live in spite of their assassination attempts

Cas didn't have a mother, Crowley didn't have a father (well didn't know who his father was)

The one parent they each did have was "not incapable of love, but incapable of loving them" (just think about Chuck's emotional apology to Lucifer, made to Castiel's face while Lucifer was in Castiel's vessel, without acknowledging Castiel at all)

These ones below are absolutely intentional, and foundational to SPN. They even made up a despicable tagline for it "shattered at the altar of the Winchesters".

8. Neither were allowed to have friends and family who support them (I was going to say outside of the Winchesters, but did the Winchesters support them? NO!); all those were killed off; they could have had each other, but were never really allowed to develop their relationship (despite some one-off crumbs).

9. Both were made to renounce and give up their accomplishments and leadership in their own domains (heaven or hell) in favor of the Winchesters

10. Both died for the Winchesters despite their continuous contempt and dismissal of them

They wrote Cas. They wrote Crowley. They wrote wonderful details like 1-3, sweeping arcs like 4-5, engaging backstories like 6-7. They are capable of this beauty and wonder, but all they wanted to do was to constrain and degrade it through 8-10. They create something divine for the sole purpose of shattering it at some worthless altar.
