Trouble ahead: The first time we found out Castiel had been working with Crowley at the end of s6e19, his stormy expression foreshadowing all the disasters to come for him.

Quoting myself: Crowley already accepted the status of being unloved and despised; the same fate had just started for Castiel.

"Trouble ahead, Trouble behind" comes from Casey Jones (Grateful Dead song, but I've only heard the Bob Dylon version).

It is fitting also because Casey Jones was a heroic train engineer who was made to drive a train under stress, and due to the irresponsibility of others his train was bound to crash with another train at high speed. so you see it’s like if dean’s one-off improvised “baby in a trench coat” comment to cas in 6x19 got taken far too literally and everyone decided that either Cas or the show would be better off as an actual baby in a trench coat being babysat by Sam and Dean instead of being a former angel of the lord and later member of team free will. so they completely ignore his actual character and relationship dynamics to keep the baby thing going, make it almost entirely impossible to enjoy or engage with any content about him because it’s all nothing but the same baby-Cas being babysat drivel and there’s no sign of nuanced discussion to be seen.

maybe it gets switched up with Bobby as the babysitting uncle instead of Sam and Dean but that’s as different as it’ll ever get. eventually trench baby Cas gets so over-saturated within the fandom that it becomes regarded and touted as the show’s own gospel truth instead of the silly fandom joke it started as. destiel is of course completely nonexistent, because Cas is a baby and dean is his babysitter-dad and that’s weird, right?

but if you try to say “hey no, that’s actually a grown ass gay man who loves dean romantically and he’s an equal part of the family, this baby stuff was never real and the canon textual evidence actually shows he’s a grown ass gay man who loves dean,” you’ll get thrown in the corner with a shame collar because everyone is still so insistent that their baby-being-babysat dynamic is the real textual deal. mmkay?

Let's talk about Cas

In the final scene of 6x19 Cas' trenchcoat is bloody, even though he now had the power to clean it

So I decided to Google blood symbolism and other variations because Cas was deciding to do the opposite of what he would normally do. Cas would usually clean his coat

First my own theories before I google

This is foreshadowing for Godstiel who I love but let's be real here Godstiel is more punitive and darker than Castiel. The blood would show that

This is Cas wrongly seeing himself as the bad guy to save the world. Leaving the blood on the trenchcoat is Cas seeing himself as a monster to work with Crowley. This is a false belief but it's a parallel to when monsters get blood over their clothes and don't clean up until later

This is Cas making a boss move. Look Crowley look at how bloody I am because I killed all of them. Don't fuck with me

Let's look at Google

Blood appears to symbolise guilt

Cas doesn't wash it off meaning that he feels guilt but his priority is saving the world instead of trying to feel good about himself. Good on him

It also shows that Castiel and or Godstiel are going to do things that cannot be undone just as the blood on the trenchcoat wasn't undone

Blood is also associated with life, death and rebirth

The life and death of Castiel and the rebirth of Godstiel

Blood is power. The strongest spells require a blood sacrifice symbolizing just how powerful Cas will be

Since Supernatural borrows from the Bible. Here blood is about sacrifice. Cas will sacrifice his body and his mind to save the world. Cas exploded and before that Godstiel's mind was under the influence of the leviathans. Godstiel didn't fully own his own mind and body anymore. This parallels to Jesus sacrificing himself and in some versions of Christianity after Jesus sacrifices himself he ascends to Godlihood. Similarly Cas sacrificed his mind and body and then ascended to Godlihood

Magrisso argues that the blood stains on the clothing of the Israelites were both a sign of the covenant and magical protection. The blood signified that the Israelites were pure, but it was also as a sign to sinners that they would be killed if they transgressed.

This would indicate that Cas' motivations were pure which we already knew but Godstiel ended up being killed and if the symbolism is accurate that would mean Godstiel under the influence of the leviathans transgressed. This is especially notable over the angel killings

Crowley's outfit is entirely clean. This means Crowley won't have to sacrifice his mind and his body because he isn't bloody

There is also the saying cleanliness is next to Godliness which foreshadows that Godstiel and Crowley will interact in the future

I never realized how powerful the scene in the diner with Cas and Crowley is until today and I think on a rewatch it will be far more emotionally powerful
