Annnnd the usual Value Village haul! (plus some things I was so, so brave for not buying):

glass pitcher (been meaning to get one for ages)

"brie baker" that came in a nice cardboard box. I wanted a smaller dish to roast tomatoes and garlic in, that was the smallest one with a lid. I actually kinda want an even smaller one for just one bulb of garlic, there were a bunch of them at the store a few weeks ago but alas, I didn't buy one when I could and now I will have to wait. and also maybe bake some brie.

lace table runner to go on top of the new Kallax shelf, been looking for one for a while cause I don't want to stain or scratch the top of it and finally found one the right size.

A beautiful crocheted tablecloth!! Couldn't pass it up. Also it sorta matches the ones my great aunt made so it'll fit in here (they actually had quite a few crocheted things, but due to my wool allergy this was the only one I could actually touch)

And things I resisted buying: a fuckton of shojo manga (so cool! but nothing I really needed and each book was $5-6 and I really didn't want to spend $30+ on books today), and some lamps that would have been perfect for the new shelf if I hadn't already bought some. I need to *not* become a lamp collector. There's only so many lamps one can have...

#this was fun #i was really hoping to find one of those teensy le cruset dishes that VV had like 4 of for a few weeks #but i guess either someone finally bought em or they just rotated the stock and got rid of em #i keep seeing ig videos of people roasting garlic and tomatoes in tiny little bakeware tho and i want to do that 😅

Ian Gallagher loves thrifting shopping

-From as early as he can remember Fiona would drag him and Lip (and later on the other kids) to various thrift shops to scout for winter coats and homeware goods. Fiona let him and Lip run around and play a game of “find the ugliest thing in the shop” while she desperately searched the bins for a winter coat that could fit a 5 year old that he could also grow into. She has 25 bucks in hand trying to find clothing to keep her brothers warm all the while Lip and Ian are playing hide and seek in the back

-When he grows a little older he takes Debbie and Carl with him to find clothes for summer (most of fiona’s clothes don’t fit debbie yet so she needs a whole new wardrobe, but carl inherited his brothers old clothes). Ian spends hours rummaging through the racks hoping to find a some decent looking clothes that could survive multiple years of the harsh summer heat

-Once Liam is born the Gallaghers have a ton of baby clothes he can use and grow into- they’ve been passed down from Lip, Ian, Debbie and now Carl. Even so, Ian wants to give Liam something new-ish that could be just his. He has about 20 bucks and he goes to thrift shops on the north side to look for some better quality baby clothes and toys- he finds an unused teddy bear and a handsome little jacket

-When he’s a young adult Ian spends a small amount of his pay check each month collecting bits and pieces for the home- new kitchenware and some new towels for the bathroom, some posters for Carl and Liam, books for Debbie and candles for Fiona.

-When Ian and Mickey loves into their apartment, they go thrifting in the fancy shops on the west side (“you won’t believe what these rich fuckers give away for free, man!”) They find a nice little patio furniture set for 50 bucks that they use everyday, Ian finds a lightly used blue Le Cruset oven-dish and he’s never been happier

-Ian keeps up his childhood game of “find the ugliest thing in the shop” with Mickey and Liam. He finds a “trophy wife” t-shirt that he buys for himself (“i know what i am and i’m proud of it”), a new backpack for Liam alongside new textbooks he needs for high school

-Mickey discovers that thrift shops have a good deal on dvds (“fuck netflix man, i prefer the physical copies”), he ends up finding a sale of 10 dvds for 1 dollar (so naturally he ends up with 30 dvds, he likes having them stacked up next to the tv). Ian picks out a lot of kids movies for Franny and Freddie and some documentaries for Liam, but the rest are all the movies he and mickey loves

-As a kid he used to frequent thrift shops in hopes of finding clothes to keep him and his siblings warm throughout the winter, but as an adult he can afford new clothes. Now, he spends his time looking for items for his home- new lampshades, curtains, posters and artwork that mickey will also like.

-He is no longer worried of spending another winter without a jacket, but he will always pop by a thrift shop when he sees one…

le creuset info! you’re partially correct, they are a legacy designer cookware brand. they where much more affordable around 40 years ago, but part of the reason they’re so expensive is that they offer lifetime warranties- my mom broke the dutch oven she got when she graduated college 30 years ago, and they replaced it with no issue. they where popularized by Julia Child in the states, and have always been a bit more expensive, but they exploded in popularity as a status symbol in 2020 and prices reflect that. I think that the only “Worth It” parts of their dutch oven brand is the number of colors they offer (another reason they’re so expensive) and that they have patterns on the pots (look at the leaf one! it’s so pretty). overall enameled dutch ovens are more expensive then other cookware because they require super high heat to bind the iron and ceramic together, but le cruset dosent really do anything hugely different to reflect its larger price tag. I’ve had a dutch oven made by the Lodge for years that works great with no problem.

I was inspired by this post on @rewritingrosie's blog about making monsters sexy, and I thought it'd be a fun tag game to challenge writeblrs out there to make mundane things as sexy as possible.

So I got my fiancé to prompt me with a mundane item, and I'm going to describe it at 120% horniness. Here we go.

Kettle...but make it sexy

The enamel was a bright sunny yellow, but the heat radiating from its body bade me anything but touch. Simmering just below the surface of its slick steel, I knew there to be danger. Pain. Yet I wanted to touch. Run one cautious finger over the flared base; the prominent spout. Hear it whistle for me, access that heat within. Taste what came out, blossoming over my tongue and warming me all the way down my throat.
