Thoughts, Headcanons and Comments on Drake Mallard /Darkwing Duck (My AU).

This here is more of a commentary blog and maybe a rant, it can also be considered as a headcanon blog and also for Negaduck fans (which I feel like the majority will curse me A LOT for not agreeing with either group, OG and DT 2017). For those who want to, they can read it as they wish, but I'm already advancing that it's LONG and will have some low-level words (I'll censor it, but it's still worth it). Feel free to leave comments about your opinions... And preferably, the comments should be healthy...

Yeap... From the poll I did... You really want to see me talking about Scarletwing- DARKWING DUCK!... So, ok... The voice of the people is the voice of God. So get ready because today there will be a lot of complaints about Drake from DT 2017.

And finally the day has come to talk about him... Our beloved protagonist, the hero of St. Canarian who flies through the night, the one that many people love... Who is the majority of people who cause a lot of the problems just to get fame and ego and who often goes over his family and friends, and also ends up screwing up the villains more and having a completely self-destructive personality... (IT'S A JOKE, PEOPLE!!! IT'S A JOKE-)

Ok, now let's get serious... By far, Darkwing Duck/Drake Mallard is a character that many people like as a protagonist and that is in some way loved by fans. Besides, even though he is very problematic, you can see that he is a good person deep down in his soul (which is difficult to see with so many bad things he has done...). I think a lot of people like him is because he's not exactly a hero, but rather an ANTI-HERO. This is very evident in his actions and personality, he may also do it for a noble reason, but it is because of his ego in the first place that he became a hero. Being recognized, a famous person... That's it... He's an artist... Against crime, but he's an artist... But that's it... There are people who like to exalt him TOO MUCH... It's the same situation as Negaduck and sometimes it mischaracterizes the character a little... I think it's largely due to his personality change in DT 17, where he it became more "sanitised" for political correctness. I'm going to comment a lot on this... Remember that this is MY opinion on the character, you have the complete right to disagree with me and want to give your opinion.

While we're talking about him, let's talk about the Drake Mallard/Darkwing Duck version from DT 2017.

Okay... Where to start? Maybe saying that his introduction was good and the idea too, but my problem is with the character himself. He is introduced as a fan of the old Darkwing Duck series (from the Ducktales Reboot reality) and is an apparently young actor (I guess 20-23 years old). He is presented as someone who is dreamy, a little slow (very slow, actually...), a little mellow and sentimental. He has certain traits of arrogance and self-centeredness, but they are not that alarming... And that's the problem for me! The original Darkwing Duck is supposed to be VERY selfish, arrogant and self-centered, that's the fun of the character. They softened Drake's personality A LOT, I don't know if it's due to political correctness (which I don't believe because there are some current protagonists who have these arrogant traits) or just so that when his Reboot comes, he'll be more relatable to children. I think it's pretty ridiculous...

But there are things I like about Drake from DT 2017. His look is simple, but interesting. The reason he's resistant is cool. His and LP's relationship is good. Gosalyn's too. The fact that he himself is friends with Fenton, but DOESN'T LIKE Gizmoduck is good (although I think he's too slow for not noticing the obvious-). The fact that he is a newcomer to fighting crime is good, it gives "justification" to his likely mistakes. Ducktales 2017 is good, but there are things that I strongly criticize...

Ok, we've already talked about Darkwing Duck from Ducktales Reboot... Let's talk about the classic Darkwing Duck, the one from the old series.

I'm going to explain him in the simplest way possible and that shows the vision I have of him... He's an Anti hero who TRYS to be a real hero, but does it for the wrong reasons. Long story short... Drake may have good reasons to be a hero for the city, the problem is that he is also very egocentric and he was only doing it in the beginning for the fame. He has noble attitudes and you can see that, with the help of Gosalyn and Launchpad, he wants to do good for people. But at the same time he causes SO MUCH PROBLEM that you question whether he really is a hero or an almost villain. And this duality is something I love in characters... It ends up not being black or white, it's grey... Then you ask: "So he's perfect for you?", and my honest answer is... No... There are some moments that make me really angry with him and that I don't like... Moments when he's an @ssh0l& with to Gosalyn, LP, Morgana, Gizmoduck, and the other Justice Ducks. Besides, some villains he creates himself! Example... Liquidator. In fact... Here I'm going to highlight why it wasn't exactly his fault, especially because Bud ends up losing his balance and falling backwards... But the way Drake took his supposed "death" was, like... "GOD, HE DIED!... But we solved the case, so let's go home! - >-"... MAN, A PERSON LITERALLY DIED IN FRONT OF YOU!!! Another would technically be Bugmaster (although I don't remember their episode well so correct me if I'm wrong) and a few others...

Okay... Having said all that... So now it's time to talk about his version in my AU and what I'm going to keep from him.

In my AU, I prefer to use a lot of the classic Darkwing Duck base, because he is this gray character. HOWEVER, the story itself I would base on DT 2017, because it really is interesting. The difference is to put more weight on the character's attitudes, to have real CONSEQUENCES for him. As for his "involution" at certain narrative points and moments when he's a jerk... I have a good justification... And for that, I take two base characters.

Pink Diamond from Steven Universe and Blitzo from Helluva Boss...

For the haters of these characters, I'm sorry... But they are the best examples...

Ok, speaking of these characters... Pink Diamond was a spoiled and tantrum person, but most of all... SELF-DESTRUCTIVE! She hurt people without realizing it, even though she felt weak and defenseless compared to her diamond sisters. She hurt and left many people on the path she walked that she felt they could never change 100%. Blitz, on the other hand, is a completely problematic person because he is also self-destructive and has serious relationship problems. The majority he had always ended up with the person hating him forever and, over time, these ghosts from the past end up coming back to him.

Now combine these two aspects mentioned and put them in Drake... Now you must understand where I'm going and some of you may have heard me say it more than once, but... Drake has serious problems relating to other people , some end up being hurt emotionally or physically. He ends up being a completely self-destructive person and, even though he tries to change, he never feels like he's good or someone's equal. Not even about his family or friends... Which makes him always try to put himself as superior to others to try to hide these insecurities. But he always ends up coming back with problems and questions... And at some point, all of this will end up coming back.

Many people may not know, but I like romance. I've already said a few times that I like "Enemies to Lovers", very flirtatious couples, etc. But I'm not much of a talker about WHICH ships I like and, well... For those of you who see my drawings a lot... I usually draw a LOT of my OC Silk Touch with Darkwing Duck. I admit that this ship is one of my favorites from OC x Canon and one of the ones I'm most proud of working on. However... To the surprise of a LOT of people... The CANON Darkwing Duck ship that I like the most is... Morgwing! Morgana Mawcaber and Darkwing Duck/Drake Mallard! I think for some people it's a little obvious, because I drew them and I've already said a few times about the comic that I wanted to follow the Canon of the classic Darkwing Duck series (sorry Drakepad fans, but I think Drake is straight). And particularly, I genuinely like the concept of their couple dynamics. A hero and a witch... I really like it a lot!... The problem is that I don't think it's explored well... TuT

Like... There were very few episodes that showed their relationship, most of them were a lot of fighting and some I don't like, personally. The episode at Morgana's restaurant and the Valentine's Day episode where Negaduck came in the middle... I dislike it SO MUCH! And I also see that a lot of people don't like Morgana... So much so that I think that, for these reasons, there is a lot of Drake OC x Canon shipping... But anyway... Here I want to reformulate the couple and give it a a little more breadth to Morgana's personality, giving a little more context to EVERYTHING about her. And since we're getting into this shipping thing, let's talk about him first...

Okay, first... A lot of people I think question why Morgana fell in love with Drake, which is understandable... He's completely selfish, self-centered, arrogant and is probably unstable with relationships (I'll leave that last one part to comment on Drake's blog). So... In my view... It was purely for Drake's body! WAIT, CALM DOWN- LET ME EXPLAIN!!! I consider that, firstly, she just really wanted Drake/Darkwing as a worker zombie who would help her in the restaurant, but she would also have a certain more... Eh... Intense... As for his body... If they understand me... :'>

So... Think about Morticia and Gomez from the Addams Family... It's a little EXPLICIT that they have a more physical relationship and (pardon the word if you're a Christian or don't like hearing this...) something more lustful. Just watch the kissing scenes and certain adult jokes. They certainly have a lot of tension between them.

I've seen many headcanons that Drake and Morgana WOULD HAVE this more physical relationship (but it would be less explicit, please...) and I agree. And, considering Morgana... I have no doubt whatsoever that she would have been interested, FIRST, in Drake's body (because, especially in DT 2017, he looks like a standard, handsome blonde man). And Morgana, I don't even need to comment... Drake got dizzy just seeing her and I think he got a little... How to say...? Kind of tense in a different way... (My God, it's tense to say this kind of thing here...:'³).

But you might be wondering: "Okay, but how did this turn into love and develop into dating?" It's simple... Coexistence! Like... Many couples who start out physically end up developing a feeling of love. As much as Drake is an extremely complicated person and probably difficult to live with, I think Morgana is... And many artists agree... Drake WASN'T Morgana's first boyfriend! Come on... Morgana looks young, BUT SHE'S A WITCH!!! SHE MUST BE ABOUT 200 YEARS OLD!!! The woman must have a lot of experience with dating. The one who would be "new to love" would be Drake! Because, yes, he has never dated anyone in his life! That's why he was so disconcerted when he saw Morgana and even when they started dating. But as a philosopher once said... "Passion is fleeting, love lasts a lifetime." And, despite being a bit controversial, there is a grain of truth to it. So, yeah... Despite the fights... There would still be love in their relationship.

Okay, moving on to her personality... I admit that it's quite irritating due to a single factor... Even though she has characteristics of flirting a lot, being a witch and having a certain "strange" air for traditional families (•cough• Binkie, I hate y-)... I still see traits of a standard and stereotypical woman of the time... Don't get me wrong, this stereotype isn't exactly bad, it's just problematic and I don't feel it matches the character of Morgana. If I were to change her... I certainly have the best inspirations for her!

Eda from The Owl House and Mary Jane from Spider Man...

Let's start with Eda... She's basically a rebellious witch, completely relaxed (in the beginning, at least), EXTREMELY powerful, who speaks her mind and is very good at fighting! On the other side, we have Mary Jane... Peter Parker's girlfriend is basically a strong woman, completely debauched, VERY beautiful, a little too loose (if you know what I mean) and also, despite everything... She is a good person who really loves Peter. Mixing these two... It would make Morgana from our Fan Comic! Basically that's it! But there is another factor and here I will pull the hook to another topic...

Several artists who reimagine Morgana in a DT 17 version often make her a black person... I didn't quite understand why... Until I saw that the woman's voice actress is a black person, then everything made sense in my head. However, I have many reservations about this... It has already been said in the series that the Mawcaber Mansion is in Transylvania (I know it's a cliché for monsters to live there, but follow the reasoning). And Transylvania is in Romania, a country (unfortunately) little known. Then I thought... "Technically, Morgana is a witch, which means she's a different race... And she lives in Romania... Technically, you could consider her a foreigner or an immigrant? 🤔".

(For those who are bad at geography, here is a map of where Romania is.)

This opens up something else in my head that... If Morgana lived isolated with her family, in a country that didn't have so many resources... The reason she went to St. Canarian would probably be to really have opportunities! She wanted to have her restaurant and that's why she would have gone to the United States. So, you could say that, in the Comic, she would be an "immigrant" from Romania. Which also comes with the issue of her not being of another "race" and her basically having little social skills... Now you must understand my point... You can say that, in terms of social skills, she is like Drake... In other words, neither of them are good at socializing. And that's why they'll get along so well...

To sum up this whole blog for you... In my AU, Morgana is an immigrant from Romania who dreams of having her own restaurant and that's why she went to St. Canarian. Her and Drake's relationship, in the beginning, was very... Physical... But over time, they both really fell in love. And Morgana's personality... We mixed with Morticia Addams, Mary Jane and Eda. And so, the Morgana of our AU is formed.

Hey! So... Since I haven't been posting much recently, I decided to challenge myself a little and try to redesign Bud Flud BEFORE the mutation. I don't say much here, but... Liquidator/Bud Flud is my favorite Darkwing Duck villain and I absolutely LOVE his concept (as much as I understand that the character has almost no layers or past- But it's like say: "There is no such thing as a bad character, there is only a poorly written character"). I admit that the reason for me doing this redesign is very linked to the artist @trishabeakens (I love you! Seriously!) and also to the artist @dawginabottle (I love you too! I know your painting style is incredible!), however... I wanted to it gives this version of Bud a bit of my style and, I must admit, I'm really proud of this design of mine, especially the hair and clothes. I'm going to make the others Fearsome Four too, but for now that's good for today... Bye! ^^✨

Thoughts, Headcanons and Comments on Negaduck (My AU).

This here is more of a commentary blog and maybe a rant, it can also be considered as a headcanon blog and also for Negaduck fans (which I feel like the majority will curse me A LOT for not agreeing with either group, OG and DT 2017). For those who want to, they can read it as they wish, but I'm already advancing that it's LONG and will have some low-level words (I'll censor it, but it's still worth it). Feel free to leave comments about your opinions... And preferably, the comments should be healthy...

So... I woke up these days and thought to myself... "Do you know what would be good today? Talking about a character idolized by the majority of Fandom as the best villain in Darkwing Duck and a hidden passion for many people and suffering hate from everyone ? YAY!!! =D" (yes, I have self-love... Don't worry, this is just a joke).

Me after this blog:

Ok, clarifying something for everyone here... I like Negaduck himself, I really like his concept and even his personality. Characters that are basically chaotic, crazy and the reincarnation of evil itself, I love that concept. My problem with Negaduck is kind of his Fandom... People put him on a pedestal and say he's the ultimate villain and the rest is just the rest... I'm talking about a kind of toxic part of the community, like those who make meaningless or simply problematic ships (sorry for those who ship, but Darkwing Duck and Negaduck would NEVER happen in this ship, they are literally mortal enemies and in OG it's worse because Negaduck is an alternative version of Drake). My problem is not the character, the problem is his toxic fans and the fact that he is always considered one of the best villains and blah blah blah. Guys, I see Negaduck as a good antagonistic figure to DWD. The vision of what Drake could become if something went wrong. A criminal genius who has no scruples about getting what he wants and who will do the worst things in the world to get what he wants, including threatening his own companions, the Fearsome Four, with death. A psychopathic maniac who is so toxic that he is basically disgusting and chaotic. Think of classic Disney villains who were the antithesis of evil, like Jafar and the Evil Queen. They're almost pure evil, but they're still charismatic. Basically a villain we love to hate.

Having already spoken my vision, let's move on to the Headcanons and also criticisms of both Negaducks (the OG 1991 and the DT 2017). Just remembering that I like both versions, but I have my criticisms of them... It's never an attack on the fans, it's just constructive criticism and my view of the character. And let's start with what people apparently idolize the most... Negaduck/Jim Starling from DT 2017. Starting with the most controversial one here that will cause me more attacks from the fans, but ok! =D

The story they made for Negaduck is, to say the least, curious... He was the original actor in the Darkwing Duck series in the Ducktales Reboot universe, whose career took a break after the series ended and he wanted to return in the new film. His name is Jim Starling (pause to praise the idea of the name and her reference, the team is to be congratulated on this honor), he is apparently a duck in his 40s and, apparently, serves to draw a parallel with the DW of original series. The original protagonist of the series that many people followed and to be the antithesis of Drake Mallard, who is the new modern Darkwing Duck of this generation. There are things that I genuinely like about this new Negaduck, like the fact that he is his own character and not an alternative version or copy of Darkwing, the metalanguage with the original Darkwing Duck being a series in Ducktales and things like that... My problem is what they did, the execution... I don't know, I don't like how they wrote Jim, he often makes parallels with the OG protagonist Darkwing Duck and seems to demonize him, while exalting the current Drake Mallard who is nicer, the which I honestly don't like. Besides... WHAT THE F*CK DO HAPPENED WITH JIM AT THE END?!?! A CRAP SCENARIO FELL ON HIS HEAD AND HE BECAME GOO, THEN HE BECAME NEGADUCK?!?! What did they give the screenwriters?! Give me, I want 2 of these...

Okay, calm down... Back to focus... I don't like how this ending happened, it kind of takes away the idea that he's a human and makes him turn into a mutant, which I don't approve of since the fun part is that Darkwing Duck and Negaduck are human, but they're impressive they survive something that would kill them (like old cartoons) and don't get a scratch. The justification they gave to Drake is good, that he always stands up because he has impressive willpower and that he is stubborn. But Negaduck... No! I would change that yes, Jim would survive even though that thing fell on his head and crushed him, but it would have just been a "scene" that he did, but he would appear injured and, if he appeared again, it would show him with scars from that incident . It would be much better... Now, his motivation... It's kind of whatever... I don't hate it, but the way it was done I didn't think it was cool, even though the justification was valid. I've seen some people making fun of him that he just "wanted attention", which is kind of true... But considering that ND is evil incarnate, you can accept it. Oh, and one last aspect that I liked and that was in the classic series... When Negaduck is completely unstable and basically insane, his eyes become spirals. That's awesome, I'm not going to lie. :³

Alright, now let's move on to the 1991 version of Negaduck from Darkwing Duck. Here they will probably give me a lot of hate attacks too...

Negaduck OG is the counterpart of Darkwing Duck from the Negaverse, an evil version of Drake Mallard who went to the Primeverse for who knows why and is wreaking terror in St. Canarian... He is the leader of the Fearsome Five, a criminal genius and also one of the most dangerous villains. That's in the sense of... He has a BUNCH OF GUNS THAT HE TAKES OUT WHO KNOWS WHERE AND EXPLOSIVES THAT COULD DESTROY THE ENTIRE CITY!!!! Besides, he is a genius criminal strategist and basically almost destroyed the city and even the multiverse in one of his madnesses. For that reason alone, I really like the concept, a person who basically represents chaos in person (Paddywhack doesn't count here, because he's literally a chaos demon) and who is one of Darkwing Duck's smartest villains who almost defeated him. My main problem with him is... He's basically a version of DWD from another universe and he's evil. I don't know about you, but this sounds so generic... There's this with Superman, Batman, Spider-Man multiverse story and "What if"... It's not that I don't like opposite versions of heroes, I do... But when it's a separate character from him. Reverse Flash, for example, is a completely different person from the Flash, Dr. Zoom. Making Negaduck just an evil alternative version of Darkwing is a bit boring because it's a bit limited... Besides, they didn't properly explore the Negaverse itself... ND is a good character, yes, but it's just this lock that makes me think: "Really? One more? Okay...-_-". I like what DT 2017 did, separating Negaduck from Darkwing Duck, in the sense of giving him an identity and not making him an "evil Darkwing Duck from another reality", making Negaduck his own person. Negaduck's parallel with Darkwing Duck becomes more interesting and palpable, whereas in the OG it's kind of a tired trope. There are certain versions that I applaud standing up, like the Hulk and Batman with one of them, but otherwise it's written in a generic way until...

But then... After complaining so much, I just want to say something... This in no way makes one version better than the other, each version is different and they all have their mistakes and successes. I've seen people comparing both versions and saying that the old Negaduck was better than the 2017 one, but I think it's slightly stupid. Each version is for a different audience, if you liked it, fine, if not, that's fine too. I've seen @o-dandelion-o compare both versions and say that the 2017 ND is a crybaby (I would personally give that to the 2017 Drake, but ok...) and that the 1991 ND is superior... It was probably a joke , but it's worth highlighting... Guys, it doesn't make any difference to me! I'm a writer and I can play the character any way I want! I don't agree with the vision of certain artists, and that's okay! I respect their vision! Only that! I want to make it extremely clear that my version of Negaduck mixes these two, the original and the 2017 version. I took the concept of him being his own character, Jim Starling, but I kept the chaotic and evil incarnate essence of the original. It's an alternative universe created by me and my friend, that's all...

This here is more of a commentary blog and maybe a rant, it can also be considered as a headcanon blog and also for Bushroot fans. For those who want to, they can read it as they wish, but I'm already advancing that it's LONG and will have some low-level words (I'll censor it, but it's still worth it). Feel free to leave comments about your opinions...

So... These days I was looking at the Darkwing Duck wiki, more specifically the Bushroot one, until I got to the curiosities... And I came across this...

Then the thought came to me: "Wait wait wait... IS THE BUSHROOT A WORSE KILLER THAN NEGADUCK?!?!?! 0-0"

"WHAT THE F-"

Okay... Sorry... But actually it wasn't like that... I already knew a little bit about it because of Annie that Bushroot was in a way kind of... A bloodthirsty killer... But then a question came to me: How much was that on purpose and how much was accidental? See, I know Bushroot is a villain and is basically insane, but... Considering his personality... Do you really think he kills KILLS on purpose most of the time?

Obviously Disney wouldn't even dream of putting it in a children's series, but... Darkwing Duck tackles death a couple of times like it's nothing! Bushroot itself has "died" a few times and people speak verbally! I don't want to get into how much Disney is very childish to the extreme and how this makes current productions a little worse, but that's not my point... The point is... I don't believe that Bushroot did the murders knowingly or WANTING. And here I get an idea from another cartoon, this time a current one: The Owl House. More specifically... Willow and Gus.

I'm not going to go into the merits of how I love TOH and blah blah blah... But one thing that I found interesting about this series is this characteristic of when the character is having a breakdown or is out of control, the powers apparently get stronger and the eyes of the staff are shining. I particularly like the way Willow looks, basically it's Bushroot. Here comes my Headcanon...

When Bushroot ends up with some extremely strong negative emotion, the most common being anger or fear, he ends up losing control of his powers and this makes him completely lose reason and attack everything in front of him. Be it allies, enemies and even innocent people... And here comes a very heavy question... He may be a murderer, but he's not a sociopath or a psychopath.

Let's face it... Bushroot only killed his Bullies because they harassed him ALL DAY. This one he had a taste for killing them first! The DWD is obvious, the hero was always interfering with his plans (which I honestly think he stopped caring, because Darkwing is not one of the most competent heroes...). But it's JUST THESE people we know he wanted to kill... What about the other victims? Did he mean to kill them or was it an accident?

For me, I think that most of the victims were accidental and, after he got out of that frenzy, if he found out... I think he would go into despair with so much blood. Here is also the question of his remorse and guilt, he would probably cry in despair and Liquidator would be comforting him (although he is not the most emotional person... Then more Liquidator headcanons) or any of the other Fearsome, except for Negaduck, who shouldn't even have feelings anyway.

To wrap up this whole thread... Let's go to Bushroot's weakness... I know everyone knows that this plant zombie is basically immortal in the series, but here I thought of a good weakness for him... Fire.

Reasons? Zombie in most movies is defeated with fire. Plants are easily burned by fire. There are forests that are burned. I think you get the point... It would also serve as something for Negaduck to use as a triumph for him against Bush and could threaten him. This is something from Negaduck, but not giving too much spoiler... Basically the Fearsome Four didn't betray him before in our AU because they were constantly threatened by Negaduck, everything for the negative duck was a matter of having control of everything. He knew the weakness of the four and always used threats and intimidation to get what he wanted. And let's face it... Bushroot didn't have much attitude, so he was easily manipulated by ND. Otherwise...
